Beautiful art gallery and nice coffee shop too. This place is worth a visit for sure!
Did not expect a smaller regional art gallery to have a varied & great selection of Australian artworks. Free entry! The recent Heide group featuring Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly series & Albert Tucker was really good as was the fire themed artworks by other artists. The older Heidelbeg impressionist paintings in the other smaller space at the back was also excellent. Plenty of free parking at main open entrance on Midland Highway. Google did not get this right & I parked further out. Enjoyed our lunch at the onsite Cafe with picturesque lake views & the single jet fountain. Clean toilets inside. Lovely location within the Benalla Botanical Gardens. The garden is not very big but you can do a circuit lake walk to get a good workout. Weary Dunlop sculpture is located here & there is a mini rose garden with some late summer blooms. A great place to stop, chill & stretch our legs for a few hours on our way to Glenrowan & then Beechworth - driving north from Melbourne.
A small-ish but modern and pleasant art gallery with 2 exhibition spaces. There is a cafe at the entrance. Interesting architecture with triangular windows above and large windows offering vistas of the bridge, river and gardens. Free entry. Ramp entrance - but can be slippery in wet weather. Car parking close by. A good place to visit on damp days..
Nice place within the botanic garden, lovely view inside and out, all for free!
Lovely gallery set in beautiful gardens an easy walk from the main shopping strip. Staff were very helpful and positive. Well worth a visit.
Nice place, not too big, but free entry. Through the garden so very nice and beautiful nature to see.
Great little art gallery in the heart of the botanical gardens. We enjoyed the current exhibitions, the staff on duty was super lovely and told us about the Silo Art Trail and Benalla Street Art Festival. Thanks to her we saw some gorgeous silo art and had the best weekend! 🥰💖
This gallery is wonderful. It’s very well run. There’s always good works on show and interesting exhibitions. We’ve been here three times and loved it each time. The Julie Shiels Exhibition here today was just delightful. Really entertaining. Really clever. Note, the cafe attached to the gallery is tremendous too. It’s a must do for a meal or snack and a coffee.

Passing through doing the painted silo trail. The wetlands was a very interesting area. The dirt road was in good condition and easy to drive on. Wonderful view and lots of kangaroos in the area. This painted tank is not as big or as impressive as the others. But still good to see.
Best Sunrises and Sunset Winton Wetlands, spanning a vast 13,000 hectares at 652 Lake Mokoan Rd in Chesney Vale, Victoria, is nothing short of a natural masterpiece—a sprawling mosaic of over 30 interconnected wetlands that has been meticulously restored into one of Australia's premier environmental success stories. As a site of national scientific, environmental, and cultural significance, this reserve isn't just a place to visit; it's an immersive journey into ecological revival and serene beauty. I arrived just before dawn on a crisp September morning in 2025, drawn by whispers of its legendary sunrises and sunsets, and left utterly transformed by the symphony of light, water, and wildlife that unfolded before me. If you're seeking a tranquil escape within a two-hour drive from Benalla or Shepparton, Winton Wetlands demands a spot on your itinerary—it's a testament to human stewardship over nature's resilience. What truly sets Winton Wetlands apart are its activities and the sheer scale of immersion they offer. Over 90 kilometers of well-maintained roads, walking, and cycling tracks weave through the reserve, catering to all paces—from leisurely strolls along boardwalks that skirt shallow lagoons to more ambitious loops through eucalypt woodlands. I opted for the 5km Wetlands Circuit Trail, a highlight that meanders past diverse habitats teeming with birdlife: black swans gliding elegantly, pelicans soaring overhead, and the occasional splash of a platypus at dusk. Birdwatchers will be in paradise, with over 200 species recorded, including the Regent Honeyeater, whose habitat restoration here forms a key partnership in national conservation efforts. For families or cyclists, the flat, shared paths make it accessible, though I recommend sturdy shoes for the occasional sandy sections. Picnicking is a joy at designated areas with tables overlooking the water, and while camping is currently on hold, nearby options in Benalla provide a convenient base. The emphasis on feral animal control and water quality improvements means you're treading in a space that's not just pretty, but purposefully healing—feral plants and pests have been culled, allowing native flora like sedges and reeds to flourish. But let's talk about those sunrises and sunsets, the crown jewels that live up to every accolade. As the first rays pierced the horizon from the Eastern Lagoon lookout, the sky ignited in a blaze of pinks, oranges, and golds, reflecting off the glassy wetlands like a living painting. The mist rising from the water added an ethereal touch, while the silhouettes of red gums stood sentinel, their branches alive with early risers. Come evening, the spectacle flips to a fiery farewell, with the sun dipping behind the western hills and casting long shadows across the flooded plains—perfect for photography or a quiet moment of reflection. These natural light shows aren't just visually stunning; they amplify the site's tranquility, making it feel like you've stepped into a postcard from the outback's soul. In a world of overtouristed spots, Winton Wetlands offers an authentic, restorative retreat that's as educational as it is enchanting. Whether you're chasing that perfect sunrise shot, cycling through bird-filled skies, or simply breathing in the peace of a restored paradise, this place delivers on every level. It's a reminder that with vision and effort, we can mend what we've broken—and in doing so, create something profoundly beautiful. I can't wait to return for a sunset paddle when operations fully resume.
Fantastic wetlands with so much wildlife. Spent a long time here walking around and enjoying the trails including the sculptures which are breathtaking. The cafe there is great, staff super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning.
Surprising 'oasis' near Glenrowan /Benalla's with plenty of flora and fauna spotting including falcons, grey kangaroos and wetlands. Lovely sculptures, artworks and paintings placed along the way. Little known/ visited.
I loved this spot. Peaceful with lots of bird life to see and hear. A viewing platform and beautiful art installations, although I didn't see all of them. The coffee was excellent from the cafe which I took on my walk. I'm really glad we made the side trip to visit.
Nice conservation with good flora and fauna. Would help if you have a good camera. We found a mob of wallabies resting by the lake. It can get very hot here depending on the weather, recommend carrying water if you venture far along the trail which I think is as long as eye can see.
It's breathtaking place to be at. I have not seen so many trees with no leaves in my life. The quietness in the area is haunting yet admirable. Hardly any noise, you will be memorized by the land scale.

Always love seeing the street art. It changes every so often, so there's always something new to see. Highly recommend making the visit.
Great street art exhibition, very talented artists
Amazing street art and I loved how it was partially hidden away from the main streets. Some pieces of art were so beautiful, words could not even describe the amazing local talent. Don't miss out on Benalla when you go on the Silo art trail!
Love exploring little alley ways, back streets and Main Street. Beautiful art works that I’m sure change, as you can see from some having been painted over.
Worth the walk around town and surrounding area.
Really nice to be able to walk around your home town and see 'street art' on random buildings, walls, fences ect. Definitely worth coming for a day trip to check them all out!
Great place to walk around and spend some time in. Plenty of murals, coffee shops and nice specialist stores.. Here are just a few of the murals as this was my third trip into the town
Great place to visit and witness the magnificent street artworks. Friendly people around and great shops and restaurants in the area. We were also lucky and honoured to meet the former mayor of Benalla (15 years ago). Recommended!

This ceramic structure has an artistic touch. Every little bit gives you different inspiration. You can look at all the curves and shapes.
We initially stopped here for a quick bite to eat and ended up wandering around for a couple of hours. Around every corner there seemed to be another place to check out. Despite undergoing repairs we enjoyed this fascinating piece located on the lakes shore.
I was happy to see this homage to Parc Güell (Barcelona, 1926), except that it isn't credited. No mention of Antoni Gaudí, or of any other influences. Strange. The Benalla Ceramic Mural may be an unimaginative name for the impressive collection of sculptures and structures. However, it's a reminder as to why public art works are important: they lift the collective consciousness, particularly when playing with natural form.
Nice scenary that's situated next to the lake. A lovely place to relax and watch the sunset. It's kids friendly too and open to the public.
A fascinating intriguing tactile "sculpture". To some it does stand out like a sore thumb from its surroundings. But in and of itself, it's evocative. It contains elements I would associate with the fairy folk in fantasy lore. It is located right along the main highway so it is hard to miss. The ground around it is sloped, do take care. There are these circular holes on one side that looks towards the bridge that makes for interesting photos.
Benalla ceramic mural began as a community art project in 1983 it took 27 years until it was officially opened in 2010. The mural invites people to rest and reflect with seating and space for the kids to play as it's an open air gallery. Situated within a park area which has a water park and adjacent to the river this mural is easily noticed as you drive over the bridge.
This creation will always catch your eye and it is such a cute, yet intricately designed little castle. I am sure the kids love to run around it, the teenagers love to mess around it and adults get wasted around it.

Spent much longer than expected. Lovely small museum that is not quite completed. Excellent information about Ned Kelly and local history. Right in the Tourist Info Centre and beside the lake…. Beautiful location to wander.
There is some Kelly gang relics on display in this place including two doors that is allegedly the Gaol cell door Joe Byrne’s dead body was tied to. There are some dissimilarities between the doors displayed and the actual door in the photograph taken in 1800’s very disappointing. I feel almost betrayed.
Currently refurbished and still being completed, displays look great. Will definitely be back once it's all finished
Very Good display and video chat about the history of Ned Kelly with room to move about the exhibition. Although not a lot of items from Neds life, what is there helps to remember the historic story. A larger collection is the Costume part of the museum, it was amazing, the quality, the dresses, and the way they were displayed is top notch. Well worth a look. Don’t be afraid to pay, it all helps to maintain the collection.
Exhibits focus on Ned Kelly; a personal dress collection warn by a local eccentric; “weary” Dunlop and the war. Lots of excellent Tourist Info. Very helpful staff. Lovely building.
Lovely, really nice place to visit. We love the structure outside on the river, reminds my of Barcelona and Goudie.
It’s cute, I liked the mini suburban house, World War souvenirs and the Ned Kelly possessions. But the rest of the vibe is kinda, well you can judge for yourselves.
An amazing collection of gowns, accessories and memorabilia. Well worth a look. Love the old cell. The model tiger moth aircraft in the war services room is a replica of the real one currently housed at Benalla Aviation Museum. Very highly recommended.

Beautifully located beside an amazing lake in a beautiful war memorial garden
One of the best visitor centres in country Victoria, very clean toilets, free tea and coffee, air-conditioned rest areas, and a cinema! Outside are grassed picnic areas and tables and a free children's water park... AMAZING!
Great place to stop for a while. There's as museum and lovely park and river view. I got some very tasty lemon butter 🤤. Great staff to help out and an excellent RHS accessible toilet just near the cinema entrance. Easy street accessible parking spots. Regards Kevin KNC Assist
The info center has the map that shows where the artworks are. The whole twon is full of paint on walls. Impressed by the paint.
Great display and artwork.
Lots of info about the local area. There is also a museum ($5 entry) and galleries showing local military history as well as fashion throughout history. There are toilets there as well.
Sought directions and info of local City plus all the nearby towns we're about to travel through. Online mapping assistance and great local knowledge of her town, provided us everything needed. Really nice to talk to locals who help you well. Cheers! They'll be back in their new premises on the lake in August 2023, but have enjoyed sharing usage of the brilliant old Commercial pub by the Bridge
New and modern updates to this facility. Have a small theatre and historic display of the lake. Clean toilets and air-conditioned Well done Benalla 👍

The third stop of our silo art visits on the way home from Wodonga to Blackwood. The Artist, Cam Scale beautifully illustrates and pays homage to the area’s war veterans of our past. So many local people were affected by the wars, which no doubt would’ve been incredibly challenging for not only those who fought for our country, but also those left behind to raise families. Especially loved the plaque and special mention of the explosion detection dog, Sally Truely amazing how these artists can paint on such a numinous scale and for the end result is incredible.
Nice Silo Art work that ties in with local forces deployed during the war. Boards nearby explain the meaning & significance of the images & their connection. General store & pub across the road, so good stop for a rest break. Plenty of space for caravan parking.
A moving example of magnificent silo art. Devenish is a quaint town with friendly locals and neat and tidy facilities. Pub opposite was charming Scones were a delight and great country service. Take the back roads and support these small country towns. It’s the Aussie thing to do🇦🇺
Great Silo art, in the centre of town. Information boards near it. Parking out the front. Well worth to have a look.
Along the Silo Art trail, you will find these incredible displays of Australia's war time history after the fall of Singapore. The silo paintings are very touching, both emotionally and historically. Take your time and read about the nurses involved and their brutal treatment by the Japanese soldiers. Talk to the locals, like Keith, who was born in this town almost 90 years ago and is still as sharp as a tack regarding the history of the area. He was a delight to talk to. Silo Artist - Cam Scale Mural of man, nurse, and train - Tim Bowtell
Enjoyed the drive through the country side, well worth the time.
Part of the Silo trail and the local war memorial The artist has depicted combat medics and nurses
Awesome murals! Worth the drive, and don’t forget to spend some time reading the plaques as well! There are park tables so you can actually pack a picnic lunch. Not much in the way of shops there (I saw one tiny storefront). Don’t forget to go into the little lane across from the silos. There is another painting there!

I dont do the review thing often, but feel compelled to share my experience. I visited on a very quiet day, only a couple of visitors. After 15m of looking around, the guy working there came out to ask if I had any questions. He then proceeded to spend an hour walking me around everything they had, telling me stories about each piece. Explained the significance of some things, how others worked, and missions that actual piece flew. Best ten bucks I have spent in a long time. Can not recommend enough.
Had a small group from our Probus Club visit. The refurbished displays are well presented and the audio visual displays very informative. Well worth a visit when you are next in Benalla. Admission is very reasonable at $10 for Adults and $5 for Concession Holders.
Great place to visit with kids.
Great Museum. Volunteers certainly know what they are talking about and about what they are showing you.
A great experience for the kids and myself. Some very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers answering all our questions. A valuable piece of history, I would thoroughly recommend checking out
Small but really interesting. Craig took us around and was extremely informative.
Exceeds all expectations! A must visit for aircraft and military enthusuasts.
I really enjoyed the museum - it's full of an eclectic mix of memorabilia and artifacts as well as some fascinating aircraft (and bits of aircraft). It's also lovingly run by what seems to be a dedicated community of volunteers that look after you and can answer any questions. Very positive experience - your mileage may vary if you're not an aero buff but I'd encourage you to give it a try even then.

Fantastic 25m indoor pool, kept in top condition. Friendly staff and very good change room / showers / toilets. Somehow I always seem to get a lane to myself which is unusual in most pools. For me it's worth the 50 minute drive coming from Mansfield.
Too many rules, not enough fun. Junior lifeguard told us that the kids can't slide down the pool slide on their stomach (much safer). I explained this to my 2 and 5 year old boys and they did not listen to me, nor did they care for the rules of the establishment. Lighten up.
The exercise was well attended and I felt the instructor was very professional. I do feel 1 persons lack of concideration coursed space being used by their personal clothes and positioning of their work mat used more space than necessary.
Good swimming pool, 25metres inside. Awaiting the opening of the outdoor 50m pool Current booking system is great, easy to use and ensures you get a lane without having to share with any or only a few others. Atmosphere is lacking, if you're exercising it's very boring, no music as well as the ceiling is old, and boring.
good size pool and friendly staff
I'm a regular at this pool. The space is always clean and tidy. The pools are clean and sparkly and lovely. The staff are always friendly and helpful and bright. They are always on top of latest covid restrictions and happy to help me get it right. I recommend it.
Great facility for people of all ages. I am especially drawn to attend the fun and frivolity of Aqua Aerobics in the large pool and grab a lane when I can for some laps. Reasonably priced facility offering a broad range of exercise including stretch and yoga.
The Aquatic Centre offers an oasis to the people of Benalla in a series of indoor heated & outdoor pools for swimming laps, water aerobics, childrens pools etc in the heat of summer or just to keep fit in winter. It also has a gym well stocked with walking stepping & rowing machines, that conducts varies gym classes. All at a reasonable price..well worth a visit

What a great little pub. Great staff, great food. Good vibe. Doesnt matter how busy they are, the staff are always pleasant and have a smile on their face. Always made to feel welcome.
Went here to see prascila queen of the dessert best cinema I've been to could do with more seats and a few more theatre screens BUT for what it doesn't have in quantity it makes up for in quality the chairs are so damn comfy and the sound is perfect I also really loved how they play movie soundtracks before the film starts and the popcorn is devine
Attended the Downton Abby final movie premier. Staff were decked out as Downton staff and we received a warm welcome and glass of bubbles plus nibbles to enjoy. Really fun intimate venue. Loved the experience.
Not friendly to old folk. Easy access (front) door always closed cinema nights & long walk around back in semi light. Walk to car parks badly lit _ potentially hazardous. Carry a torch Accessing seats can be difficult for us oldies, especially in the dark. There are no hand rails. The attached photo shows how Geelong solved this problem. Please! Please someone do something about this.
The best cinema seats with extra wide armrests. Decent prices and a great lakeside location.
Come from Wangaratta to try out the cinema as I had only recently found out about it. Safe to say, going to be my go to😂 The guy at the counter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The cinema itself was above and beyond. Super comfortable, amazing sound and picture. It's also all very reasonably priced. Definitely worth it.
The Benalla Cinema is a wonderful little gem, in a beautiful location. The friendly staff, and fantastic facilities, made for a worthwhile trip. Booking tickets online was a breeze, and the staff at the kiosk welcomed us warmly. We'll definitely be visiting again!

Great place if you want to go for abit of a hike, walk, ride, drive even a little camp. Lots of wildlife and native trees/wildflowers and old mines that were used to look for those 'gold nuggets' so watch your step if your feeling adventurous and get off the beaten track! Not even a 5 min drive from Benalla which is handy aswell...
Good flowy green trails. Not so flowy blues ones and a couple of short backs with gap jumps. Beware of spider 🕷️ 🕸️ webs if you qre the 1st rider of the day. Good Fire road signs to easily navigate. Recommended apps: trail forks Maps me
Beautiful state park, not much of a wildlife we could see at the time. Plenty of bush around and good tracks ( mostly wife roads). Around this you are allowed to stay on your can or in a tent this making a great pit stop is you are on road trip. Easily accessible from Benalla!
So peaceful and relaxing. Lots of birdsong and spring wild flowers.
Great spot I have been here many times.. It is up a gravel road in a state forest.. Most times I have been the only van here..A little dodgy on windy days as there are over hanging trees..Be careful of falling branches and trees.. Area needs to trim or check trees in test area..
Great place to see wildlife. Tracks can be a bit patchy. No facilities at all.
Fabulous for a Joey Scout bushwalk and sausage sizzle! Our mob will be back for sure

Amazing building. This church dates back to the very origins of Benalla. Worth the visit just for the history. The Sunday School hall was built in the sixties.
A wonderful looking church with very friendly and kind people. The sermon was both God centred and God honouring. Stephen, the minister, spoke very well.

Good place to go and watch races, plenty of parking, and they have a camp and caravan park $20 each person to stay near the track, they have a lot of veiwing place to see the track. Sorry had to put my dad's race car in the photos as well
Excellent facilities, they cleanest track toilets ever! Lovely staff and excellent pit area. Those corners sill infuriate me.. But I love it.
Went to Winton for the Festival of Speed. Some classic car racing at its best. Not too busy and great for kids
Great day out. Great racing, excellent, helpful staff. Only slight let down was the food on offer. Otherwise an awesome way to spend an day in the country. Highly recommended.
The place where we race. Spacious garages. Lots of food options on race days.
Attended fun day on 18th May 2025. Well organised event considering many cars on the track (6 groups with almost 130 cars!)
Great circuit for racing and spectators. Well presented and prepared. Has a great time. Some strategies around access for onsite campers could be reviewed.
We had an amazing time at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria! The track is well maintained and offers the perfect setup for drifting and motorsport fun. The atmosphere was exciting, and the staff were professional and welcoming, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Drifting at Winton was an absolute thrill – the layout of the track really added to the excitement and challenge. It’s definitely a place that delivers both adrenaline and fun, whether you’re a driver or just watching. Highly recommend it for anyone passionate about motorsport or looking for a great day out with friends!
