Loved loved loved Murray falls. Lovely little walk on a natural bush track with a few boulders to scramble over. Lovely Forrest walk and magnificent views. We met 2 of the local Rangers who were lovely.
Very refreshing swim at bottom of waterfall, plus a beautiful view from the lookout. Looks like a lovely place to camp. However, road leading to waterfall was very bad quality especially if you don’t have a 4X4 - lots of pot holes and very rough. Also lots of persistent big flies 🪰
Can't swim here but if ya want bang for ya buck pictures and just enjoi the grace of nature and her power there is a walk way and view points.. swimming is accessible further down the creek
We went only to the lower falls view which was an easy walk, and then downstream to the area marked for swimming. There was plenty of parking- the upper car park marked for camping is where the falls tracks are but there are steps there from the lower car park. The big BITING FLIES trying to land on us had my husband crashing out 🤣 Also the gravel road with ripples and potholes wasn’t comfortable in our RV but go slow and it’s no problem
I only stopped in for the day but I'm keen to head back for a camping experience there. There is no wifi/reception so make sure you've booked a site before you get there if you want to camp. I had NO PHONE SIGNAL anywhere around the place for about 10 - 15mins heading in there. Beautiful board walk to the Falls. And a 1.8km walk through the forest to the top of Falls.
Gorgeous swimming and camping spot. You need to book if you are camping. note that the road up is really bumpy and gravel - may not be suitable for all cars. Bring repellent - mozzies everywhere.
A beautiful waterfall in a very nice national park with camping facilities Well worth the visit I would like to see it in the wet season
Cool camping place with toilets and BBQs. Plenty of trees for shade and you can take a dip in the water from the Falls.

We were up and exploring too early for the buildings to be open, but we still learned heaps! The fact that this is accessible even outside of hours makes it truly unique and special - we were able to go around back and read all the informative placards and descriptions of everything. For someone who loves reading these bits and bobs, this was great! Spent more time than we anticipated just taking our time and having a wander. Thank you for making it available to everyone, even if it's early in the morning.
The bush telegraph was a great little museum and we enjoyed our visit. Lots of information about the past communications.
Interesting and interactive. Great for kids, and adults, to send each other Morse code messages. Highly recommend stop.
What a great set up. Very interesting, both the adults and kids loved it. The kids particularly liked the Morse code machines you could use to send messages to each other. Also great to have a free site to visit. Would definitely recommend stopping in here if going through Cardwell.
Great views, driving through couldn't resist taking some shots
A small museum with fascinating history of early explorers and the building of the telegraph amidst challenging wilderness 150 years ago. A bit more detail would have been better as some of the displays seemed aimed at school kids: in places there was duplication and things seemed out of order. The staff were very busy eating their lunch and were on the surly side when I bought a book on the telegraph line. Allow no more than 30mins.
If you are remotely interested in history of the far north particularly infrastructure, this place is a gold mine. Some neat set-ups with beautiful old equipment. Well worth the visit when driving through Cardwell. The folks who run this place should be proud!
This is an absolutely wonderful place to stop for a little while and learn about the history of Northern Queensland. The interactive displays and information were excellent. Thank you to Cardwell for restoring this building and creating such a pleasant surprise on the side of the highway. This is a gem that shouldn’t be missed.

The Cardwell Spa Pool is an absolute gem! From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the sheer natural beauty of the place. Lush greenery surrounds the pool, creating a tranquil and inviting atmosphere. But the real star of the show is the water itself. Honestly, it was breathtakingly clean. The clarity was incredible – you could see straight to the bottom, and the water had this gorgeous, almost ethereal blue-green hue. It felt so refreshing to slip into the cool, clear water. There was none of that murky or cloudy look you sometimes find in natural pools; it was pristine and inviting. Swimming in the Cardwell Spa Pool felt like a truly special experience. The smooth, polished rocks underfoot added to the natural feel, and the gentle flow of water was so soothing. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, simply soaking in the beauty and tranquility. If you're ever in the Cardwell area, a visit to the Spa Pool is an absolute must. The cleanliness and stunning beauty of the water alone make it worth the trip. It's a little slice of paradise!
Absolutely beautiful! And worth the stop! Unfortunately we couldn’t swim due to the water being unsafe due to no rain & not enough water flow (there were signs stating unsafe) but the water was so incredibly blue. Just stunning! Also pre warning, we were in our 2WD Sprinter Campervan & the road is super rough. 4wds would be completely fine! It's a corrugated dirt road that's pretty bumpy. It's 7km if you enter via Gravel Pit Rd, Cardwell or 3km long if you enter via Elderbeck Rd, Elderbeck. No facilites at all.
Lovely spot. Colour of the water will depend on the amount of rain they’ve had in the area, and time of day (sunlight). Had the location to myself - no crowds. Just a short drive from the highway, gravel road which was mostly good to drive just had to watch some of the creek crossings where there were some large potholes. Worth the visit though to see Mother Nature at work!
Amazing water hole but make sure you go May - July ish or after rain … the road out is long and all gravel with some rough patches!!! (we had a motorhome). The water was still pretty but too low and full of tadpoles. We went mid September so it was empty and a bit stagnant 😙 would go again though in flowing season. ♥️
This place is one of my favourite. It's so lovely and refreshing. The water is not super cold but still nice and cool. The spa itself is amazing. Easy drive, the road isn't tarred but it's compact dirt/gravel and maintained. Easily can get there in a hatchback. There are no bins or toilets, there are picnic tables. We collected some rubbish from previous visitors to try and keep such a beautiful place clean and still open to the public.
A gorgeous hidden gem with beautiful turquoise water, better than the photos… Don’t miss it!!! Very private and hidden, you can swim or float down the springs and the spa is gorgeous!
Currently hardly any water and unsafe to use. During wet season for sure a lovely place.
Wouldn't go out of my way to see it. Water wasn't running so it may be nicer in the wet season but couldn't recommend.

You are welcomed in to view a small keeping place packed with information and artifacts from the regional aboriginal groups, then can view and purchase locally made art including woven baskets, handmade jewelry, boomerangs, ceramics, art prints and more. A great place to learn more about Girringun people
Wow! Fantastic local art and history gallery, well worth a stop, spent over a hour looking and reading, very helpful staff and a good little shop, got 2 fantastic books! 😁👍 Thank you, loved it
Great place to experience and learn about local culture and country. Some fine exhibits, and super helpful staff happy to share knowledge. Thanks for welcoming us.
Such a pity we couldn't access everything they have to offer over the Easter weekend: so much traffic going past too. Thank you to the Op Shop who decided to.open to give visitors a small break and loads of hospitality.
Very interesting, friendly reception and we received good explanation in the museum, as well as in the plant nursery... worth to go take a look and learn about local history
Disappointed that it was closed when it said it was in opening hrs at 2pm

Amazing customer service and interesting shop.
Beautiful information centre, lovely staff with a wealth of knowledge.
Money really needs to be raised to reopen the bathroom facilities and fix things up with the place, come on town and government... It's a vital asset to Cardwell I'd hate to see lost.... My kids love exploring this great volunteer run visitor centre, the ladies just need to not smoke right at the front door.
A lot smaller than it used to be before the last cyclone but still great to get information regarding the local region as well as the rest of Queensland. The lady that was working there was very informative and polite.
Lovely little town and the Tourist Info Centre is amazing. The rainforest and reef exhibit is well worth the gold coin donation that is requested. Also amazing woodwork and murals. Well worth the stop. Thanks Cardwell.
Good location. Didn't go inside but had a look from the outside. Interesting information outside.
Wonderfully presented, informative and friendly helpful staff :)
Nice drive through town. Unfortunately weather did it no favours when we went but worth a stop and walk on jetty

Gorgeous drive taking you to Cardwell Spa Pool, Dead Horse Creek Falls and Attie Creek Falls. The road was a little rough but we'd had a considerable amount of rain. Easily accessible by 2wd.
Totally must do, easy drive to see the spa pools, Dead Horse creek/falls & Attie falls. Saw lots of kangaroos and cattle along the road.
It was okay the road wasn't too.bad just a bit disappointing as to what's on offer. The cardwell lookout was the best spot.
Great drive behind Cardwell, 2 waterfalls and 3 swimming holes including the super cool blue spa pool, what more can I say 😂😍😁👍 Thank you

We got more than just a boat ride to the island thanks to Brad and his local knowledge. He is providing a valuable service on behalf of Queensland parks making sure hikers have up to date forecast/tides, croc sightings and safety tips. We even did a team emergency rescue on a large fish. Definitely coming back to the island and Hinchinbrook Island cruises
Brad takes a lot of care in your Hinchinbrook Island experience. Gives you interesting tourist info as well as tide charts, croc info, and a map of mobile reception points. More than just a ferry transfer. We moved our return trip forward a day and he was able to accommodate us with no hassle. Plus, a cold bevvie for the trip home! Cheers Brad.
Brad took our group of four across to Hinchinbrook to do the Thorsborne Trail. Brad’s level of service, local knowledge and storytelling, care and professionalism were above and beyond. He made a bucket list experience flawless. Thanks Brad!
Hinchinbrook Island Cruises service is outstanding! I would recommend it anytime. Brad is a very knowledgeable, kind and communicative guy and you can always rely on his services. I spent a few days back in May of 2022 hiking part of the famous Thornsborne Trail and climbed Mount Bowen through the Warawilla Creek. Brad was quite flexible to come pick me up straight on the Little Ramsey Beach at low tide and drop me off in Lucinda, even though, initially, I embarked from Cardwell. On top of that, he rewarded me with a beer to celebrate my achievement to have climbed Mount Bowen. Outstanding!
Can't rate Brad highly enough - he is the man you want running the logistics for your Thorsborne Trail hike. Relaxed but highly knowledgable (from his time as a ranger looking after the island), he will give you all the information you need to make sure you are prepared for your hike, putting at ease any concerns about creek crossings, tides, and crocodiles! Plus ice cold beers in the esky once you hop on board that will really hit the spot after 4 days of hiking!
We had a fantastic experience with our transfers to Hinchinbrook. New owners Ash and Ben were extremely helpful with our logistical challenges (they really saved the day multiple times), and had a great knowledge of the area and surrounds. Thanks again!
Wow! If your choosing a Hinchinbrook adventure definitely choose Hinchinbrook island cruises! What an incredible 4 days. Brad provided excellent and experienced service. His experience on the park as a ranger provided fantastic insight and confidence for us to do the trail. Communications where great, pick up and drop off perfectly timed. Can’t recommend enough, thanks Brad and Lyn for the exceptional service. :)
Brad is bloody legend! Perfect service. Even came out late the day before our scheduled pickup and saved us from a cold and wet final night. Got some extra info about the area along the way and even had some drinks in the esky on pickup. We'll be back to enjoy Hinchinbrook again. Thanks Brad!!!
