Highly recommend this jet boating experience. Been jet boating a few times in NZ. Mark and Buller Canyon jet boating was friendly, relaxed and most of enjoyable. Mark kept us informed of useful information and history of the river and the gorge itself. He took the time to answer any and all questions and most importantly made the entire jet boating experience enjoyable. The ride itself felt less commercial than other jet boating experiences in the South Island.
Such a great experience! Mike was a very entertaining host. We got a mix of history and geology thrown in with the fun and speed. It felt very safe throughout. I would highly recommend - just make sure you use sunscreen!
The view is amazing, Mark is very funny and friendly, the drive is awesome, so much better than the one we had in Queenstown! Highly recommended!!! And Bowie is so cute!!
This was shut the front door fun, Mark is the best operator in New Zealand, smaller boat than in Queenstown but more crazy, more professional and much much much more adventurous. You get your bang for the buck and then some. I can't stress this enough, this is the BEST one and I highly recommend everyone to go here and enjoy it. We did others as well but this one... OMG, the speed, the thrill! Thank you Mark for really putting the F in fun for us 🤣 A 360° greeting from the Public Speaker from Sweden with special request 🤣
Have rode Shotover in Queenstown but this was miles better. Excellent 'Driver' and amusingly commentary. Suspension Bridge just added to the overall experience. Looking forward to returning sometime soon.
Had an amazing trip on the Buller with Mark. He was such a good host and guide. Never done jet boating before and not sure we’ll ever top this one as it’s a stunningly beautiful place. Thank you for an amazing afternoon Mark.
My Husband and I had a spectacular time with on the jet boat. Mark, our driver went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. We wanted to take photos and videos, so Mark was very clear at communicating when was an appropriate time to video/ take a photo and when it was best to put the camera away to ensure we held on for some 360 spins. Highly recommend Buller Canyon Jet Boating. While there you can also experience the Bulla Canyon Swing Bridge. Thanks Bulla Jet Boat company and Mark for a wonderful day it is truly a holiday highlight.
We stopped here on the drive to Westport, and were so glad we did. There was a swing bridge going across the buller river, different walks to go on ,long or short, interesting things to look at for all ages. A zip wire ride, and best of all there was Marc with his Jet boat, what an incredible experience up and down the river, through the Rapids. Marc was an amazing character and really made the trip. Not the cheapest thing to do but well worth the money.

Don’t miss the Swing Bridge when you are in the area. Amazing view to the Buller river with the opportunity to do some fun activities. We did the short hike and enjoyed our break on our trip to Westport. Passing the bridge costs 12,5$ pp.
We had an enjoyable time at this venue so I'm curious why there are some negative reviews. The team really need to cut back the vegetation on the loop walk so visitors could enjoy the view properly. The bridge is exhilarating, although I wish people were less comfortable crossing at the same time! The toilets could do with a deep clean but were acceptable in the meantime. Staff were friendly. Definitely worth the minimal entrance fee.
Went here a while back and didn’t expect you had to pay. The next time I came back and bit the bullet and was pleasantly surprised. Such beautiful views and heaps to do once you get over the other side. You might have to be patient as the swing bridge isn’t that wide, and also be careful of where you put your hand as I got a small cut on mine. It is so very worth it though. Lovely loop tracks and multiple natural attractions to look at.
Overall value for money 2.5/5 No family pass No combos so yiu do mkre activities and save. Bridge 3.9/5 $12.50 - Went in the morning. Manager/owner was very welcoming and friendly. Paid our entry and went on in. My first thought of the bridge was disappointing after being on the ones further down the country, yes this one is longer but I feel it could be better. When searching and looking at things to do I didnt take a close look at what the bridge was made of or looked like in detail. Comet line 4/5 fun - 1/5 not Including access to bridge and walks. $40 + $25 for photos and videos. Tandem Comet line and it was fun. Interesting to be one behind the other and not next to each there. Definitely could be longer and definitely could be faster. $25 extra for a flash drive with the photos and videos seemed expensive though especially if you paid for the other thing. Gold panning 3.5/5 Sand flies 1/5 Unfortunately we did not get told about the sand flies when we arrived. We were covered head to toe in them when we went to the area to do this activity. Went and brought some bug spray from the front desk ($25) and this only kept them away for a few minutes. The activity itself was really fun but as I only got to do it for a very small amount of time it has become the worst thing I have done in years. As we left we mentioned about how bad the experience was and that the bug spray did an aweful job and we really didnt do much panning because of the sand flies and his comment was "yeah they are quite bad this time of year" and didnt really care at all. We were just another person who had already paid. If you do go, there is some enjoyment in some of the activities but 100% do not go anywhere near the gold panning, and take good bug repellent.
Unexpected cost of 25 nzd to walk across. But the other side has over an hour of beautiful hiking to a beach and waterfall along with epic jungle views. It's worth the cost, especially because few people leave the main trail.
Awesome place woth amazing view. Very friendly staff who even waited for us to arrive as we were running a little late. Highly recommended
What an adventurous place to visit!! The experience of the bridge walk is tremendous. A bit scary but feels fun once you done it. The walk around the island is amazing as you pass many amazing spots as the river beach and the big tree. You can watch a lot of birds around there. The bridge walk and the island walk is not expensive. You can do extra activities like zip liner with an extra payment. There is a small cafe and toilets inside and a plenty of parking available there.
Worth paying for. We weren’t sure about paying just to cross a bridge but we’re pleasantly surprised! Really cool bit of history and a thrill to cross. The loop track is a great leg stretch if this is a stop along a day of driving.

The welcome by the crew was so friendly and caring, they explained everything so clearly and made us feel at ease. Once in the water we were informed of all safety procedures. Setting off was fabulous Johnny and Mali were fabulous smiling making sure we were all okay. The journey began wow amazing over rapids, floating down the river, the jumping overboard for a floating swim on our backs then back on board for more rapids finally jumping off a rock down into the swell of the river to small rapids floating down, amazing then back on board for a tranquil finish. Back at base cake hot drinks debrief and photos, sent free of charge. Amazing experience great company to go with, high five!!! Great campsite, Riversid
We had so much fun on our morning rafting trip with Frosty. Such a knowledgeable guide who taught us so much, felt like we were in safe hands and could relax and just enjoy every moment. Also loved learning about the area and the trees during the quieter sections of the river. Warm shower and a cup of tea at the end was a treat.
What a fun, adventurous experience for the family! Our guide Casey was super chill, calm and very knowledgeable, and Samson took some great pics of our time on this beautiful river. Our first time white water rafting and we had a blast! Thanks guys!
I was expecting a "boring" paddle on the river, but the instructor Sonny and Kate prepared an unforgettable and very unconventional ride for us. It was in a friendly spirit. We even swam - 1 intentional and 1 unintentional dive :D. You definitely have to try it!
This was so much fun. Thanks to the UD team Quinn, Jono, and Sampson, so many laughs. 5 stars to our guides who made this trip exceptional, great knowledge of the river and some fun facts along the way. This is a great river if you’re a bit fearful and unsure of the waters but also a great rush of adrenaline for the go getters. Highly recommend this location and team for an unforgettable experience. Also situated at the Riverside Holiday park, best paid camping spot we’ve found in the last 6 weeks traveling NZ. Be sure to zoom the areal Photo…
We had Casey with us as a guide down the Waimakariri river. Super onto it, great with kids, and fantastic yarns. Absolute gem of a person. She will eat your cookies if left unattended... 10/10
Mid summer trip on the Burra for people in the 7th decade! I mention this to encourage others. It was great afternoon, from the welcome to the coffee and cake at the end. As others have done, we can’t say enough about the guides and support/photographers. Swimming/floating down the river was sublime and jumping off the rock into it was terrifying. Would suggest less steep exit point but that did not detract from the whole thing. Cannot recommend this enough!!!
We didn’t do the family trip, but the full one. We had a nice young “apprentice” guide and an experienced one as a supervisor. 5 guests on the boat. We had to reschedule on short notice and that was very easy. You have to do some paddling yourself (as usual). The gear was in good condition. The shoes however open themselves a bit with a chance to loose them. I enjoyed having free photos (a link to a file repository was sent on the next day). Everyone was nice, fun and professional. The scenery was very beautiful. The rafting itself was great, there were several good rapids.if you want to get completely soaked go to the front. I loved it. On 2 occasions we had the opportunity to jump from the cliffs. In one case it was right into the white water after a major rapid. The other was calm, but the cliff is higher. Super fun! There was coffee and cake afterwards.

Awesome experience. Steve was our guide and had a lot of knowledge about nature. Interesting to hear his info about trees, etc. The fires are very nice to see and it's great Steve made us some pancakes and a nice cup of tea!
Do it! Unique experience that includes history, geography, animals, people, flora & fauna. Steve is a wealth of knowledge and a all up great guy. We took our 2 teenage grandkids & they gave a 5/5 star. The hike in was beautiful, with bush, moss gardens & rivers. The flames are fantastic, along with the pancakes & hot drinks, plus treats. Highly recommend. Thanks to Steve & the farmers for letting us visit this special place.
We had a fantastic time – thank you, Steve. The landscape was stunning and the whole trip was organised perfectly. A warm recommendation from us!
This was a really cool experience. You get to walk through beautiful forest before reaching the flames. Steve has great knowledge about the area and nature. Having pancakes and hot chocolate by the flames was awesome!
Totally worth it. Including the car ride to and from the bush walk. The pancakes were very filling too, so we did not need lunch... :)
Amazing experience, highly recommended for reasonably fit adventurers 🤣Steve brilliant guide , informative and great cook . So pleased we stayed and did it . Phil and Gai
Great hike to the natural flames with pancakes and, marshmallow’s served up at the site.
A fantastic trip, the guide (Steve) was very knowledgable about the nature and wild life. The hike is just beautiful! And the tea and pancakes was the cherry on top!

20 ladies from St Arnaud thoroughly enjoyed our time at the museum. Bought back heaps of memories. Thank you Judy and team for making it a great experience.
What with earthquakes, flaming gas, and isolation very interesting history. More old wooden buildings than most towns in NZ. History of people and the equipment and technology of the past. The museum is in an old building by NZ standards. Old phones etc. Lovely grounds. Stop for lunch. Toilets close. Easy parking.
Well worth a visit if staying or stopping in Murchison. There's plenty of local history particularly the 1929 earthquake and many old photos. There's also a barn with agricultural and forestry equipment.
Good coffee stop, delicious slices and the pies looked great and were nearly sold out when we got there. A lot of people came after they closed at 2pm so be aware of the hours before you go. The area is very pretty and I'd like to have had time to do some of the walks around there.
Charming museum with well researched photos, implements and gadgets from days gone by. Excellent narrative and photos before and after the big earthquake. Definitely a must see while in Murchison.
Limited collection of local treasures but amiable curator.
A delightful museum detailing the history of another great NZ town and it's people. Not to be missed. The displays are beautifully crafted from items donated by local families. Run by dedicated volunteers who are also very knowledgeable on the local history.
Nice little museum with decent collection of artifacts and history on the area.

Clear water, eels swimming freely accompanied by some ducklings. Mosquitoes here are very aggressive, other than that, it is very beautiful.
Beautiful spot…. Lots of very peckish sandflies and very friendly eels
Absolutely beautiful spot. Very similar vibe to nearby Lake Rotoiti. However unlike Lake Rotoiti, it's a sandy lake rather than rocky. That might make Rotoroa it slightly nicer to swim in for some (both are pretty cold even in the summer though!). The sandiness and waterfront vegetation at Rotoroa meant that when we visited (summer, on a sunny day) there were a ton of sandflies/midges, which were pretty unpleasant to deal with. A couple of nice walks available but the path to one of them was not easily accessible due to surface flooding from recent rains.
Very nice picturesque lake. Canoed the length of this lake acquiring a very sore backside and stayed in the D'Urville Hut at the top end. What was very concerning at the time however was the population of wasps in the bush. The bush was absolutely rancid with them and in the heat they could be quite bad tempered. The native bird life and insect life must be extremely stressed. Very bad scenario happening here with the wasps at plague proportions. Seriously needs dealt with.
I couldn’t appreciate the lake due to the amount of sandflies I encountered the moment I stepped out of my car. Wanted to walk one of the tracks but changed my mind after having multiple sandfly bites within 5 minutes of reaching the lake.
Very beautiful spot with no one around..a little bit off the beating track but we'll worth the trip...a true gem
Feb 2020. A just adequate campsite with short walk needed to reach the toilets. Extreme nuisance from sandflys (blackfly), and many wasps in the upper canopy. However bush walks were thankfully free of sandflies (but not wasps). Lake is lovely for kayaking (and free of sandflies). Water Taxi available (for a fee) for transport to and from opposite end of lake. Spot the huge eels (protected species) from the jetty at dusk.
Magical morning! Go early in the morning to catch the best sunrise- I prefer the winter cause you can catch the snow and fog to add some mystery

Very nice, 10 minute walk from carpark. Some big pot holes in carpark. Toilet available
Water thunders down the rock, a white veil on the mountain's face. Maruia Falls, a constant clock, measuring time in this wild place. The river, once a gentle stream, is now a roaring, rushing might. A sculptor's hand, a waking dream, carving beauty from the light. The spray a mist upon the air, cool breath of the forest green. The beech trees watch, a silent prayer, witnessing this powerful scene. For here, the earth and water meet, a force of nature, wild and grand. A stunning, solitary feat, a living poem in the land.
Surprisingly the water is such strong, it make the fall such beautiful. The carpark is just next to the fall less than 20m. You could see the source of the fall. A small path walking down to the river side for the closer view of the fall. The height of the fall not very good high, it should be less than 10m but the water speed is so fast that created a very nice fall view. It is one of the easy access sites
Two viewpoints one is 30 seconds from the car at the top of the falls, the other is a short distance down to the base of the falls (picnic table). Worth five minutes. Impressive seeing the logs spin in the big eddy. Do not swim here.
Beautiful but fierce looking waterfall. Water is beautifully clear. Strong undercurrents, so there are signs warning people not to swim in the swirling water.
Nice big waterfall to watch! Can get down from the viewing platform and see it nicely from the rock beach. Don’t swim here! And be careful when walking on the rocks to get a closer view.
Magnificent place to stop by and enjoy the tranquil waterfall.
Always love a good, 'nothing beyond this point is worth your life' sign Visited after a few days of rain, the falls were happily gurgling along. Very short walk down to the riverbank, toilets on site. Completely worth a stop for 15 minutes whenever you're passing

Must do experience…. Enjoy
Biked the Old Ghost Rd, stayed in a lodge at the end and then Murchison Heli Tours dropped us off at the top so we could ride out to where we started. 6 of us, with our bikes - no problem! 'Saved us driving back/relocating a car to the end. So much easier this way and well worth it for the experience and extra riding! Awesome trip. Cheers Rob
Highly recommend a flight with these guys. Took a flight in/out of hut, beautiful views, great experience
Murchison is very fortunate to have such a competent and diverse helicopter operation. We had Rob muster deer from three, quite difficult, scrubby, steep hill country blocks. What a great decision it was to engage Rob. That proved to be the most economical way to muster deer. We were pleasantly surprised by just how cost effective it was. Rob is clearly a very competent pilot and both my husband and I felt very comfortable riding with Rob. We couldn’t recommend him enough. Utterly outstanding. Certainly the most stress free way to muster deer, for the farmer and the deer. Massive thanks to Rob and his team for a very successful mustering operation. Clockwork. Excellent!
Great service from very skilled pilot. Makes lifting our digger and heavy equipment a breeze.!!
We have been using Rob and the team to do our ag work for the last couple of years. Spraying and burn offs. Great service and great rates. Highly recommend.
Couldn't speak more highly of Rob and the team. Nothing was a problem at all. Prompt and very professional. Thanks for the great service, we will certainly be in touch again.

Such a unique shop! Love the place- the way they lay out their antiquities around the space is so cool with the vinyl music playing in the background. Would definitely come back again. We just happen to be charging our EV at the charging station across the road and decided to pop by while we’re charging and have a look. So glad we did!
What an awesome shop with hidden gems around each corner, things of yesterday year at reasonable prices too. Staff are awesome, they also sell ice blocks inside. Really yum.
Beautiful little store with a lot of nicely priced treasures. The music completes to whole thing!
Interesting store with lots of antiques and friendly staff
Nice collection of antiques. Items inside and out. Worth a stop.
Simply awesome. Travel back in time and get the vibe.
What a great place with so many vintage and retro goodies! Scored a few cool buys . Wish I had more room in my car to buy more! Be back soon 😍 Thanks Dust and Rust

Such a blast! Fun and learning to $ ratio is a total win! Its an excellent value. I did a beginner Whitewater Kayak course. They made everything so easy to understand. My group was 5 students with 2 guides with various age, athletic skill, and gender. We had practice time both in the pool and Buller River. (It's a beautiful river!) It is a super positive environment that is set up so every one ends up working at their skill level and pushing to the next thing appropriate to them. Superb instructors, really excellent. Equipment is clean and well maintained. Very professionally run! I would 100% recommend.
Best course ever I had done in river! They taught me so many amazing skills that are useful in kayak! like how to roll back up!!! also they are great at helping and commentating well like myself are fully deaf in water! (whiteboard, take time, hand signs and much more) worth to give it a go and try your best to achieved the goal! The place I stay at their Lodge was so easy to access things and plenty time in water!
Just had four fantastic days with NZKS. Coming in as a bit of a hack, the team were able to provide progressive instruction that improved and corrected my paddling that fitted in with the rest of the participants. The care and knowledge of the instructors was exceptional. The lodge is a great place to hang and the Buller river is just beautiful. Thanks.
I can't recommend NZKS enough. This is the 3rd course I have done with them and return for a reason. The instructors are true experts who support and stretch your skills. There are over 20 different river sections available so there are always options for the weather and water levels. The course is adjusted to cater for your abilities your abilities and goals. The Lodge is perfect to cultivate an atmosphere among the students and instructors that you leave with new skills and friends. Thanks NZKS!!!
Love the Nz kayak school. I have been a few times and every time is amazing. Learn so much with amazing instructor and great people. Daan and Jess and the crew run a superb program. If you want to learn or an experience kayaker then this is the place to start.
My time at the New Zealand Kayak School was top notch! Jess, Dan and the rest of the team were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with the skills to improve your kayaking weather you're a beginner or more experienced. The accommodation is clean and lots of space for cooking and relaxing after a day on the water. Thanks again team :)
The instruction was top notch and the choice of runs excellent. I attended two sessions. Stephen Miller was my instructor both times and was super. A definite plus is that the school attracts students who are great people too. The sandflies decided that I was a delicacy but seemed to ignore everyone else. My only defense was to adapt my kit. I wore fleece long underwear under my trunks and tucked into my socks, a fleece top under my shorty splash top, and gloves. All was good in that garb.
My son and I had an amazing time at Kayak School. I was relearning after many years off the water and my son was having his first moving water experience. The instructors are ultra professional, very patient and loads of fun to spend time with. They are all passionate about what they do and helping people learn this amazing sport. Morning pool sessions get your roll working well and taking it to the river embeds those new skills quickly. My son had never rolled before and after his second pool session was successfully rolling on both sides! The accommodation is perfect; comfy beds, hot showers and a large fully equipped kitchen alongside a huge lounge and dining area. Jess and Dann - the owners - are amazing - super helpful and flexible to ensure you have the best possible time. I 100% recommend Kayak School. Whatever your kayaking level, there will be something here for you in a amazing location with superb people.
