Beautiful walk thru the Forest. Outstanding views of the ocean and Rocky cliffs. The ferns and forest growth are dense. The trail is very well done and leads to some stairways down the face of the rocks. Nothing to difficult but take your time.
Unexpectedly nice, short walk to a lovely, small, non-crowded beach. You have the opportunity to take a small waterfall-shower (; Right next to the Punakaiki Rocks, worth the time!
It’s a lovely little walk to the coast and it has some amazing views, well worth a quick stop off
Easy walk, beautiful views, lots of native birds, highly recommended walk
Fantastic walk....Beach at the end of this Scenic track!! Memories ❤️❤️
Beautiful walk. Easy access and lovely panoramic views.
A short walk to a stunning piece of coastline. Not to be missed while you are in the area.
STOP your car! Get out and walk down this beautiful track to the beach. It is definitely worth it. Overhanging cliff faces, smooth polished stones, crashing waves and a blow hole at high tide.

this was a fun stop! We used our headlamps and spent about 45 minutes in the caves. It took some time for our eyes to adjust, but we did see a few glow glue worms! don’t be afraid to go a bit further back in the cave. Be patient let your eyes adjust and you will see some glow worms.
Super easy to do, literally on the side of the road. There is a small parking bay across the road to park in, but can be busy. Only takes a minute to walk down the stairs and up inside the entrance, so you don't need to be a physically fit person to enjoy.
Awesome to see, hear and feel some of the powerful forces of nature. Easy walkway to the main viewing areas. Other trickier but fun areas you can choose to walk through, navigating the natural rock formations.
This cave entrance is at the edge of the main road, and there are no road signs before the location, so use maps. There is limited parking on the other side of the road close to the beach. There are two entrances to the cave, one via the stairs and the other one across the garden. It's a short cave as seen from the first entrance and widens and even has an upper level and a lower level when you go inside. Best to carry a torch to see around. Second entrance is connected to the first one via a common passage. It's cool inside, and very narrow in certain passages as you go further down. There is a small stream of water coming down in the middle of the cave. Kids liked the place and wanted to explore further down. But without guidance we felt it was a bit risky to go further. Would have been nice if there was guidance. No entry ticket either.
Very fun cave to explore. Really close to pancake rocks and blow holes. There is a great trail that takes you to the cave opening and then you can explore and go back deeper. We found some glow worms towards the back. Very cool! Bring your flashlights/torches!
Great place to explore, bring a torch. There are definitely glow worms in there, but you need to go a little way in.
Cute little cave. Wear footwear with good grip as wet slippery rocks. Bring torches for each person (phone torch isn’t enough). Turn off torches when at back of cave, look up and see the glowworms (you will find them in the wet areas of the cave). When you go through the main entrance at the top of the stairs, go up and turn left and this will take you to the furthest place back. If you get claustrophobic…don’t go. If you love exploring caves…this is small but neat nonetheless. Parking: 6 or so parks on road beside the entrance. Otherwise park at the Pancakes rocks public parking lot and walk down to cave.
The cavern is not clearly marked so it is difficult to know where to go into the depths of it. You park elsewhere and walk to it. The rock is wet and becomes slick so wear shoes/boots with good traction.

We hiked to the swinging bridge and it was BEAUTIFUL. LIMESTONE CLIFFS THE RIVER THE FOREST!! Such a great experience n the late afternoon with the sun low on the horizon. If you have time do the loop back to the village via the other river trail to Waikori road. about 4 hrs total.
2 hrs return, nice easy walk, flat track with access to the river
Really lovely not too difficult of a walk. If you are doing the loop it is a 15 minute walk at the end back into town
Was such a beautiful walk. The nature is just stunning. 11/10 recommended if you have the chance
Great walk and really easy even for beginners. Stunning views of the Pororari River and lush ferns further ahead on the track. Keep an eye on mountain bikers though - they can appear out of thin air in high speed.
There's an 8km out and back route or a 17km track, depending on what you want to see and how far you want to go. The 8k route is to the swing bridge, which is what I did. The scenery is beautiful and changing the entire way. Towering rock walls line both sides of the river for a good portion of the track. You can cross the swing bridge and return on the opposite side if you'd like a change of scenes. The south side has a short section that actually drops (via staircase) down into the rocks. One end is pretty narrow. It gets dark at the bottom, but doesn't last long. You can see light from both ends, but it's a good idea to hold the rail regardless. Definitely recommend this place. An added bonus is the cell service you get from the trailhead parking lot. It's the best you'll get anywhere in this area.
A really beautiful and relatively easy (2/5) track along the river. Beautiful forests and high cliffs towering above. The walk-only is an out-back walk but you can join the bike track for a loop walk. Well signposted. A lot of the walk is in the shadows so can be chilly - good shoes and a warm jacket!
What a spectacular walk! Just incredible and well worth stopping to explore. Walk to the swing bridge! It is about 3.3km from the start but worth going to. Muddy, so wear sturdy shoes.

New visitor center worth checking out. It has a very nice layout and interesting merch to purchase. There is also a cafē inside, which we didn’t try out, but it all looked delicious. The bathrooms are very nice and have changing tables.
Excellent visitor centre, beautifully designed and presented in an iconicNZ location. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the new experience was world class.
The cafe is fabulous! A limited offer of delicious treats, my boys loved the sausage rolls so much we had to visit twice. Delicious food, and really lovely service. A must try!
We received superb service in the cafe, with an excellent meat&pepper pie! The ladies running it were super friendly & the coffee was so good and warm after our hike in the rain! We also got some great info from the center before our hike!
Wow! Be sure to stop here and take a look! What ever the weather, you are guaranteed to be impressed. Easy to walk (large section wheel chair friendly), free to enter coastal path with superb viewing points of the Pancake rock formations.
The pancake rocks are a natural wonder. A must see. Take the time to walk all the trails. Each formation has been shaped by wind and sea . Very beautiful and dramatic. Patience is often required to get the blowholes full action. Another New Zealand outstanding attraction.
Absolutely worth a stop and short walk around. The pancake rocks and the blowholes are impressive as are the views of the coastline and birdlife. A beautifully maintained tourist attraction. Paths are wide and very well maintained and are mostly hard surfaced. All points of interest are well signposted with interesting information about the item you are looking at. Walkways are mostly accessible by wheelchair with just a few sections that cannot be accessed.
Very nice tourist information center and marvelous pounamu display. We want to thanks the ladies from the Ngati Waewae Arahura office they were very friendly and helped us a lot. We also gathered precious information for our next stops along the west coast 🙌🙌

Great parking and beautiful beach walks with nice driftwood and stones - watch the surf it fills your boots
I walked the track to the Ballroom. It took me four and a half hours there and back. The first section to the first river crossing was the worst, lots of mud and badly eroded track. The second section up to the confluence of the Fox River and Dilemma Creek was generally good. The third section up to the Ballroom is in a spectacular gorge. The walk here is signposted but has no marked trail as it on the rocks beside the river and eight river crossings to the Ballroom. There is a toilet and camp area at the Ballroom.
Went to the fox river cave on the closed track. This track needs to be cleaned up. just some trimming and couple logs on track to be removed and install couple more orange triangles and it be fine. The cave system is bloody cool. Just be careful on the rocks going up to the cave as they can be slippery.
Awesome walk. Needs some work by the riverbank. Easy to miss the last orange marker when you are almost at the overhang, look straight ahead not to the left which leads to a dead end.
Can be very muddy, not recommended for kids under 3 when wet. No stroller can be taken. Carpark has a toilet and always enough space.
So much to see and do...rich in history from the Brighton mining day's...check out the Rusty cup Cafe, and hidden caves
Beautiful walking track follows the river upstream to an ever constricting gorge of towering Limestone cliffs where native Kakariki or parrots live. Eventually you reach the "ballroom" a large natural soundshell.
Soooo cool. Quick walk. Take the time to check it out. Will not disappoint.

The Gift Shop: Where Thoughtful Gifts and Kindness Collide! I just had the most heartwarming experience at The Gift Shop! They boast an incredible selection of unique and thoughtful gifts, perfect for any occasion. But what truly stole the show was the owner! This incredibly kind gentleman went above and beyond. When he learned it was my mother-in-law's 83rd birthday coming up, he surprised her with a beautiful gift! He even insisted she wait to open it until her special day. Seriously, how sweet is that? My mother-in-law hasn't stopped talking about it since (and trust me, that's saying something!). She even sent a thank you postcard to the shop, hoping it finds its way to him. So, if you're looking for a fantastic gift shop with an owner who truly embodies kindness, look no further than The Gift Shop! You won't be disappointed.
Don’t buy any thing here The most expensive souvenir that I bought in New Zealand Even Wanaka and queens town are cheaper than here. You will pay the highest price for the same product
Awful customer service, the host said “ New Zealand world do way better without international tourist”. Also bring political views into customer service. Beautiful place, unfriendly people in this shop.
If you're in the area for the Pancake Rocks, definitely stop in here. Very friendly people working there, and some truly one of a kind items for sale.
Punakaiki Crafts isn't a location for dining!! Only for an icecream!! You can buy clothes, shoes and gifts!!
Great selection of gifts and friendly staff
