Beautiful beach with a nice view of the Tasman Bay in the foreground and the tip of the South Island in the background. There are several benches you can just sit down and relax on, the bay break dividers work well as a place to sit if the benches are full. There’s a sidewalk, so walking up and down the shore is another thing to do if you aren’t able to take a dip. There are a few shops nearby and general parking is at the south end.
A very beautiful beach with water taxi and Tasman Sea Shuttle that provides tours to the Abel Tasman NP.
Best beach in NZ we have ever been. Water temperature was refreshing and just nice with the warm weather. Best to go in Dec and Jan but do expect big crowd and no carpark after 10am.
Very nice beach! It is a tourist spot yes but with a campervan it must be a great experience when you can park straight in front of the beach and enjoy a lovely view.
Very nice and beautiful beach, Water was very warm and the sand is golden colour, very busy around christmas holidays. hidden spot will definitely go there again
An amazing beach!! So beautiful
Beautiful beach. Calm waters where you can canoe, sail, or just a swim. Great for toddlers.
My personal favorite beach in NZ along with Tawharanui (North of Auckland) and Oakura (New Plymouth). I tend to go to Little Kaiteriteri beach to avoid the large crowds.

A great experience in renting a Sea Kayak to Split Apple Rock. Even though the office was closed we rented the kayak right on the beach. The staff was super helpful and explained how to get back-and-forth to Spilt Apple rock. The equipment was in excellent condition and came with all the necessary items needed to make a successful journey.
Highly recommended Fabulous kayak trip tosh Apple Rock with the lovely Emma. Lots of teaching points and guidance. We are inexperienced sea kayakers and having been lucky enough to have a one to one with kayak trip with Emma we feel really confident for future ventures. Bonus chocolate cake and coffee on the beach plus pictures. 🤩
Great guided trip to Split Apple Rock with exploration along the way. Plenty of wildlife to see, Jamie entertained us on the way with lots of information. Including a coffee and a cake picnic break on the beach. Absolutely recommend this experience in Autumn and Winter - find a sunny day and enjoy less crowds, more wildlife and calmer sea!
We had a great time as beginner sea kayakers, saw some cool wildlife and enjoyed nice hot drinks and cake with stunning views. Jamie our guide was awesome, very knowledgeable about the local area and gave us all we needed to know about kayaking and the equipment etc. a great experience for us, cheers.
Easy to book online. Instruction from the guys on the beach was good. This is a lovely activity to go see the split apple rock. We took a picnic and pulled up on the beach for a while. Think in advance about the waves, we found it quite tough on the kayak back into the bay.
We hired 4 kayaks and a paddle board for an afternoon and had such a great time! The guys were so helpful and flexible with the hire and gave easy to understand instructions. We would highly recommend!
We really enjoyed kayaking to Split Apple Rock and back by ourselves for 3 hours. We had time for lunch on the beach and a swim. It is such a beautiful place. The young girl who gave us our safety briefing was very helpful, thorough and kind.
We had a fantastic day with Kaiteriteri Kayak. From the easy booking to the tour, bush walk and half day paddle it was great. We really enjoyed our paddle with Hannah our guide. Hannah was very informative with local information and shared local lore. We enjoyed afternoon tea and exploring the rocks.

We had the most fabulous experience on Abel Tasman Cruise, Walk & Sail tour on Christmas Eve 2024. The cruise from Kaiteriteri was fast and informative stopping at Split Apple Rock and to view some seals on the way. Landing at Anchorage, we decided to walk to Pukatea Bay which wasn’t far at all (recommended by the lovely lady at reception when we booked trip) wow, it was absolutely beautiful and we practically had it to ourselves.spent a couple of hours there and walked back to Anchorage to wait to get on the Power of Two catamaran to go uptown to bark bay and then back to Kaiteriteri. This was by far the highlight of our day. Claudia and Inke were a fantastic crew, really friendly, made the safety briefing fun even. When I asked inke if I could learn a little about sailing he was very happy to do so. We had brilliant weather and luckily were able to sail most of the way back. Claudia was terrific, chatting to everyone and informing us about the areas we were visiting. One of th best days ever, thank you very much.
Absolutely a fabulous day out. Lots of fun with Marco and Jane. We saw baby seals and dolphins and sailed and had a lovely walk back along the track. Absolutely thoroughly recommend.
Had an amazing day out on the catamaran in February 2025. Crew were fun and attentive , we were able to swim from the boat and they provided an excellent gluten free lunch for me (regular lunch was also good). Would definitely recommend.
We took the Sail, Seals, and walk trip today and it was spectacular! We saw some seals and even a few dolphins. Our skipper, Frank, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
An unforgettable family adventure! Our family had the most amazing day with Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures on the Anchorage Walk & Sail trip. Since the walk is self-guided, we decided to hike in a day early and camp overnight at Anchorage before sailing out the next morning. The team even delivered a packed lunch for us all for day two — which made it all so much easier and was just what we needed after our adventures! Being locals, it’s easy to take for granted the incredible place we live in, but this experience reminded us just how special the Abel Tasman really is. The catamaran was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully stable, and sailing along the coastline was simply magic. The boys loved spotting seals and seabirds and looking back at how far they’d walked the day before. It was the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, an easy, fun, and unforgettable way to explore the Abel Tasman with kids. We’d absolutely recommend this experience to everyone!
We had an amazing day of sailing! Marco and Claudia made it even that more special. Captain Marco allowed my 9 & 7 year old to sail the boat and talked them through all of the steps. My son even got to park the boat which is a memory he’ll never forget! Thank you all for such an incredible day!
Such a great ride to Anchorage Bay! The views are amazing, got to see a blue penguin and plenty of baby fur seals learning how to swim! The ride was amazing to be able to hike part of the Abel Tasman Coast Track in just a few hours.
We had the most amazing day with Abel Tasman Sailing, it was by far one of our highlights of our 10 day trip. We walked to Anchorage from Marahau then had the awesome experience of sailing with Mark (the Skipper) who was so kind, knowledgeable, professional and experienced. We learnt a lot, got to relax, felt at home and very safe sailing the beautiful waters. We got to see the seals at Tonga Island too. We were also allowed to take champagne on the trip so we got to relax as we sailed sipping champagne and enjoying the sun. The catamaran was stunning and very clean. Our transfer back was also effortless and all the way through, Abel Tasman Sailing was very professional and down to earth. I highly recommend if you have the opportunity to enjoy the Abel Tasman, a sailing trip with this company is a must.

Lovely service and very friendly staff. We arrived early yesterday but the crew were very kind to start the journey a little early to suit our time. Lee Anne, who was our guide did an awesome job explaining the Maori traditions associated. It was a very pleasant and fun filled experience. This is a family owned small business and Leanne is an award winning steerer, so there is lots of love and passion put into this job buy these guys. Would highly recommend.
It's difficult not to exaggerate how complete this was as an experience! Nothing I've done before has been so thought-provoking, educational, and brilliantly good fun. I knew nothing of Maori tradition before our Waka canoe trip, and I still have a huge amount to learn, but it left me wanting more. Thomas, our guide, was a master at sharing Maori history, legends and life in a way that simply made you want to dig a little deeper into the story. And it was all done with a natural humour. Go Enjoy
We went out with Lee-Anne with our family of five. What we got was far more than what we were expecting. It wasn't only a beautiful paddle, but an enriching, cultural experience which truly made us all feel connected. We very much appreciate the sharing of the Maori culture, the history, stories and beauty that is the fabric this country and it's people. Kia Ora!
Tēnā koe, Thomas, for your guidance and commentary on a wonderful waka adventure sharing your Mātauranga Māori. It was a magical shared experience, reminding us that we are stronger when we paddle together in the same direction, and in awe of the first Māori ocean navigators. Ka kite anō.
Our group included four kids ages 4, 8, 11, and 14. All of us loved this trip. All the local kayak companies won’t allow young kids, so I was thrilled to find this option. The two hulled waka was more stable than a kayak through wakes. The seats were comfortable for me and my bad joints because they are padded and because you sit in the same position you would in a regular chair. Comfortable and safe for young and old. Our guide Thomas was charismatic, kind, and funny and taught us local Māori history and culture on route.
A truly unforgettable experience that we will do again one day! Leanne was a delight; her knowledge of Māori history and culture was incredible. The time onboard the waka was so fun. Kia Ora!
A wonderful experience, combining the beauty of Kaiteriteri and being on a waka, learning the local history and much of the local culture. Thomas, our guide was so good at explaining Māori words, learning a haka and making us feel honored guests. Highly recommend.
My friend and I had such a great time doing this kayaking experience. Unlike other similar tours we’ve done across New Zealand we felt our tour guide, Thomas, really made an effort to incorporate us into his culture. I liked that when he spoke in another language he would always translate what he had said so we could understand what we were hearing or repeating rather than just trying to learn the sounds. He was just generally an interesting person and made sure we all had an amazing experience. He explained stories, plants and their herbal uses, answered questions and even gave us recommendations of places to go in the Abel Tasman (separation point was a great recc by the way!) Despite the not great weather so glad we did this and would definitely recommend. Also you could really tell when he was paddling in the kayak because boy did he make it move. Thanks so much for such a great experience!

We walked in. Pretty steep descent and ascent. But the walk says 15 mins. It is more like 5. Lots of stairs. But we are not extremely fit and did it easily.
One of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand, I reckon! Well worth the little walk. Parking must be challenging on weekends but we were lucky
The location can be quite confusing but once if u see the signal board make sure you look for the parking already to avoid longer walk. It's been a 15min walk but it also based on ur own stamina add on if you are carrying things may affect the timing. The steps are considered safe and handy.i would advise bringing a water shoe if you plan to climb on the rock. You may book a tour if you prefer since Tasman is quite a big area to travel around.Car park are so limited there including the beach space as well.there few caves u can walk around as well.Note remember to place your thing high up to avoid water raise and wet all your stuff.
Split Apple Rock, located in Abel Tasman National Park, is a must-see when you're in the South Island! It's a unique rock formation, naturally split into two halves. The views are stunning, and it's easily accessible by kayak or a short walk. Definitely worth checking out!!!!
No carpark near the beach trail, so you have to park on the main road and then walk downhill to the trailhead. Easy walk to the beach. The rock itself is pretty cool! 🪨 There are also some scary dark caves at the end of the beach.
Nice little short walk down to the beach to see the rock, do it at low tide and you can explore some of the caves on the beach.
Really nice beach even on a rainy day! Would have been really awesome to be lucky enough to see the apple split the day it did. 10min walk from the parking area, 5mins from the drop off area.
This a famous feature of the Abel Tasman Peninsula coast. You can visit it from the land following a fairly long and relatively steep path (including stairs) from the road to the beach. Alternatively there are a number of day excursions that allow you to see the Abel Tasman Peninsula from the water. Either way this is an iconic feature of this part of the coast

Great trails in an awesome location, well worth the visit
Great spot with good signage. Felt like most of the trails were XC related with lots of long flats or ups. Other than rock face and karmakaze area. That was the good stuff. Probably the only trails I would come back for.
Has someone for every skill level apart from crazy hard core MTB riders. Perfect training ground for young and not so young
Great tracks, all with good signs and well prepared for all different kind of skills. Free access, which is GREAT - a big thank you to the volounteers maintaining it and taking care - great work!
Kaiteiteri mountain bike park Is small but perfectly formed. There’s a few ways up (Te Piki Ki Te Ra is my favourite), and a bunch of options down to please all levels of experience. It can be a bit warm in summer, so get out early or after dinner. You can shuttle to nearly the top via the back road to Marahau, or if you’re riding up from Marahau or Split Apple Rock, there’s a forestry road from the summit of the Kaiteriteri-Marahau road that will take you up to the summit via an easy 40 minute ride.
Love the tracks here!!! Have riden here 4 days in a row. Corkscrew, Jaws, Big Airs and Swamp Monster are probably the best tracks. The Coppins Loop is also very good if you want an easier ride. It is worth going the extra bit further at the top of Corkscrew up to the lookout.
Good diversity of tracks, mostly under trees for shade on a hot day, and next to a beautiful beach to cool off with a swim and real fruit ice-cream, good food options in the village also. Pretty much perfect though at height of summer parking can be difficult to find.
Very good tracks, signage the best I've seen so far. Very easy to follow on the trail fork app. Not hard at all to let go of the money that went into the contribution box. Keep up the good work, this park is great!

Had a great time exploring the local estuary and awesome Marahau beach front!
We had booked a Groupon in advance and upon arriving to pick up the paddle boards the owner told us that it was not lucrative enough for him to honor the sold Groupons and that if we wanted to rent the paddle boards we would have to pay him on top of the groupon price. He wasn't even nice about it and clearly had a monopoly on that activity in the area, would definitely not recommend giving business to someone that doesn't care about customers.
Lousy attitude by the “owner” as we were customers with a Groupon voucher. So he felt we weren’t worth the effort to deal with since all he had was the good paddle boards available and tried to up sell us from the Groupon rates. Wouldn’t recommend services from this outfit.
Love the guy running this company
