Our private tour with Garth was amongst the very best experiences we have done. In 3 hours we learnt amazing facts about the gannets and their extraordinary life cycle and travels, fun facts about the Kidnapper Station, the philanthropic owners, it’s associated Lodge and Private Golf Course, imports and exports through the Napier Port and a million other things we knew nothing about before today! Thanks Garth, and all the team for showing us a very special part of your world. 10/10
A unique and unforgettable experience. Our guide Marcus, was outstanding - full of interesting information and insights perfectly delivered across the course of the morning. We were totally engaged and enthralled for the whole three hours - not a moment of boredom. The drive through the sanctuary was glorious (and occasionally hair raising though we felt very safe with Marcus at the wheel!) and the gannet colony was a sight we will never forget - totally extraordinary to see so many of those beautiful birds up close. A fantastic experience, highly recommended! Went with my elderly parents and teen son - everyone thrilled.
I booked the regular tour for my mother today. She doesn’t speak English, so I was the one communicating with the staff. The same person who checked us in also drove the tour. He initiated the question by asking where we were from. When I said we were from China, he replied “never heard of it” with a smirk. When I said “really?”, he repeated it in the same tone. Later, when another Chinese guest was asked the same question and said he was from China, the same person looked surprised and said, “you must all come from the same shipping container.” I’ve lived in New Zealand for eight years and have never experienced anything like this. It was disrespectful and unacceptable. The location itself is great, but this interaction left a very poor impression.
We had walked along the beach years ago to see the gannets. It was a new, and most enjoyable experience to go on a minibus to experience the gannet colony. We were there at a perfect time when there were a number of newly hatched chicks and much activity in the air. I suffer from severe neck damage and the driver was extremely considerate of this throughout the trip. An informative and delightful experience to be recommended.
A hugely memorable stop on our tour of the North Island. Friendly staff, very informative and safe driver with the 4 x 4 bus taking us to see the gannets at Cape kidnappers. The gannets did not disappoint with many newly hatched chicks and feeding/mating/nest building/bill fencing and neck bowing behaviours. There were many thousands of gannets to observe, so exhilarating!! Thank you so much for the wonderful tour. We would highly recommend it for everyone.
I joined the 1:30 pm Gannet Safaris Overland tour on 2 November 2025 in Hawke’s Bay. While the landscape and gannet colony were beautiful, the behaviour of the tour guide completely ruined the experience. At check-in, when another participant said they were from China, the guide mocked them, saying: “China? Where is that? Never heard of that country.” When I also said I was from China, the guide added: “Were you guys shipped here in a container?” Later, while talking about Napier port and cargo ships, he referred to “China as that small broken country.” Earlier, when offering me coffee, I asked for “black, no sugar,” and the guide commented, “Women don’t usually like it bitter.” These remarks were highly inappropriate, humiliating, and unprofessional. As a resident of New Zealand, I was shocked and saddened to hear such comments from a tour representative in front of other guests. I have already filed a formal complaint to the company and intend to raise this issue with the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Review Tribunal if necessary. New Zealand is a diverse and inclusive country, and such behaviour does not reflect its values. I hope the company will take this seriously, investigate the incident, and ensure proper cultural-awareness training for its staff.
A fun adventure seeing, smelling and listening to the gannets. The dedication to their mates is so impressive and how they locate each other in a crowd of hundreds…
This trip is amazing and our tour guide Jan was very informative and took her time to answer all our questions. I would go again in a heartbeat You got within a few feet of the gannets. They are such beautiful birds. We even got to see a wild takahe on our way back out. :-)

Incredible wine experience at Elephant Hill ! We had one of our best tasting since we arrived in NZ. My only mistake is that I forgot to ask the name of our fantastic host (from the UK, hopefully he will recognize himself). Thanks again for providing such lovely guided tasting, beautiful wines that are worth the visit. 100% recommended.
Great experience!! We opted for the guided wine tasting and Jade did an amazing job giving us an overview of the different vineyards and their effects on the taste (we did not have a lot of knowledge on wine, before 😅) The wine itself tasted great as well, and if you actually buy some of their bottles, the tasting fee is waived - awesome deal. We were lucky enough to be paired with another couple with whom we could walk back and enjoy another bottle at the nearby campsite 🏕️ P.s.: big recommendation for the sourdough to go along with the tasting!!
The restaurant has a beautiful and pleasant atmosphere. The wine selection was noteworthy, and the food was decent. We had an enjoyable time overall and would recommend it as great value for the money.
Definitely a must do tasting in the Hawkes Bay region. Beautiful establishment with stunning views. The staff were friendly and the wines were great. I especially liked their reds.
I did a wine tasting and was taken through the range of wines at Elephant Hill by Jade at the cellar door. This winery had number of nice complex wines, especially the Viognier and Syrah's (of which they have many offerings from different plots). Jade had great knowledge and was a great wine host.
We tried a few flights of their wines for tasting. None of them stuck out as great wines to our group. We found their syrah wines lighter than typically expected. The venue and location is great. The service on the day was moderate, approachable but not very friendly.
We had a great tasting at Elephant Hill. Beautiful location, views, and delicious wines. But the star of the day was Ella who led our tasting. She made it an experience. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The food is likely delicious too but we can’t vouch for it. They also have great boxes for your wine to take home. Would highly recommend a stop at this gorgeous winery!
Our tasting experience here was the very best of our travels in New Zealand. Not only did we find several wines to take home with us, but the pacing and service (including a couple extra wines added to compare to ones we were enjoying) were excellent. Highly recommend!

The owner is very friendly and welcoming with clear instructions. We enjoyed our conversation with him while waiting for our friends! The bikes are really comfortable and well maintained. The bikes have a nice big basket on the front which makes it great for carrying belongings...or the many bottles of wine you purchase. We had the bikes from 10am till 4pm and managed to squeeze in both routes on the map. 💪 No easy way of getting public transport here so we were stuck with Ubers which proved costly.
In a really great position to ride to a bunch of winery's. Also the bikes are really good value compared to other companies in the area. Murray (owner) is a top bloke, he let us return the bikes a little later which really made the day feel not rushed. Great coffee store also across the road.
My husband and I rented bikes from here for the day and were met with great service and banter from Murray as well as really helpful tips and information about the area and where to go. We had a wonderful day out cycling to different wineries and with the cycle trail overlooking the devine views the Hawkes Bay has to offer. The bikes were as comfortable as a bike can be and we would highly recommend!
We rented the bike on the rainiest day of the month. Murray tried to call us to reschedule but we were not defeated and decided to go on with our adventure and had the best day out! Very friendly and most helpful, Murray gave us all the information needed for a delightful day in the wineries, unfortunately we did not have the chance to say thank you before leaving! Ps: make sure to make a stop at Hygge in Clifton at the end of the pink track and Te Awanga Wine Estate on the corner of the blue track👍
Such a fantastic day out. The bikes were awesome, so comfortable and perfect for the coastal routes. Everything was made so easy for us on pick up and maps provided with tips on the best places to visit. Definitely check these guys out!
Great, clear directions and information. Lovely host. Beautiful views. A really great experience! We biked from Haumoana to the Havelock North wineries and it was flat and a great track the whole way.
Murray and the team are awesome. We picked up our bikes in the morning and enjoyed the loop trail. The bikes are super comfy (seat is very cushiony) and the basket up front was perfect for my extra things. Good price and value.
Two wineries out of the four was closed and my bike had a few issues but still had an amazing time! Highly recommend! Charlotte was very friendly and informative!

We stopped by the British Car Museum on a rainy day in Hawkes Bay and found an astonishing collection of classic British made automobiles, mostly from the 1930s to the late 20th century. What an impressive collection, something you'd expect to see as part of a worldly museum exhibition, not discovered in a roadside barn in the small community of Te Awanga, New Zealand. This is nothing short of a treasure. We greatly enjoyed the two hours we spent looking over old cars, of which there are hundreds on storage here. We very much enjoyed seeing the many old Vauxhauls, Austins, Morris' as well as the in tact Denis fire engine. The vehicles are all well labeled so it is easy to know what year, make and models you are looking at and there are many more to see than what we mentioned above. In addition to the incredible collection of historic vintage vehicles, you can also see old equipment, pianos, TV sets, model airplane set and other items of interest. As such, even if you are not a fan of old cars, there is easily enough to spark your interest for an hour or two at the British Car Museum. Overall, we very much enjoyed our time here and would gladly return to another look around. This is a great activity, especially on bad weather days when you are looking for something to do inside.
Great museum with an excellent comprehensive collection. $10 entry, could spend a few hours here if you are a true British car enthusiast. Few old Ford's in the collection such as Escort and Cortina.
This place has got some good collection. But the cars have to be organized. Not a must go place but for those who love antique cars, it is good.
Awesome collection of rare vintage cars. 450+ cars. I wish I could sit inside any car & feel the ride which is not allowed 😀
If you are British and mid 50's or older you'll walk around saying you drove one, your parents drove one or a relative drove one. And you'll no doubt love this place as we did. It's not a place for children. You shouldn't touch anything but nothing stops you, the lines of sight are bad and there are lots of places little ones can disappear (most likely retuning several hours later covered in oil and grease). This isn't a museum it's a place where a LOT of old British cars are stored and someone has kindly given the public access to see it. The cars are packed and stacked in and while there is space to get through safely, there isn't the room to fully appreciate each car. There is limited information on each car so if you want more talk to Ian, the owner, or Google it.
Quaint is the key word. Worth a look if you are into cars. A huge private collection of some 500 British cars crammed into a large shed. The eccentric owner is harmless just make sure you keep an eye over your shoulder or he might accidentally knock you off your feet as he enjoys zooming around the narrow lanes on his mobility scooter.
Amazing experience. Cars everywhere! Up, down, left, right. Huge range and lots of Morris Minors. A British car enthusiast would love this place. Very modest entry fee, and a great owner who nips around on his scooter, showing you the various british antiques he has aside from cars. On the uper floor he had old automatic pianos, among hundreds of cute things that I can't remember. Definitely worth visiting because even the kids would be entertained by many of the things he has to offer.
Great experience to see so many normal British cars. Really are to many cars for the space but a nice nostalgia afternoon was had, with dad (me) telling my kids all about the cars of my youth.

We had 2 very nice and generous meals of Cod and scallops for lunch. Beautiful. Lovely chardonnay too. Also a sample of dessert wine made with viognier grapes, wow. I cant believe Tim went out the back and got us some french oak wood to help with our plum home wine making when I chatted about looking to get some oak flavour. Amazing thanks.
An memorable tasting! I brought a group of international clients for a Hawke’s Bay wine tasting experience, and Tim absolutely delivered! His warm, witty hosting style had everyone smiling, and the wines were just as generous as he was. The entire Clearview team made us feel welcome, and appreciated, carefully wrapping up each purchases like treasures to ensure safe journey to their new homes. An unexpected invitation to stroll through the vines and winery with a glass in hand was the perfect touch. Huge thanks to Tim and crew — a standout experience our guests will be talking about for a long time.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Clearview. My choices - seared tuna with avocado, wasabi and pickled vegetables was light and delicious, followed by smoked duck breast with a fig and orange salad. My partner enjoyed the duck terrine and pan fried blue cod. We shared a mille feuille - not quite a thousand layers, only 2 and somewhat firm to cut with just a spoon. Waiting staff were great until we ordered the dessert from a wait person who had no idea what we were ordering and sent another staff member to clarify. At this point the coffee order was lost but we were compensated with a local port. Altogether it was a lovely, relaxing experience and one we'll be happy to replicate in the future. The Black Reef Blush was a delicious compliment to the meal.
Enjoyed a really lovely lunch today with my husband and sons . Were lucky to get table at late time. Lovely busy atmosphere Great friendly service Fab meal- the shared platter entree was really lovely for 4 The cod was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed my salad - Boys really enjoyed beef and lamb dishes My family enjoyed their desserts and I had a lovely coffee to finish. Thanks Clearview another great experience
Came here today for my hens weekend. Service was so good! Not swanky but still very knowledgeable. The food absolutely incredible! The menu looked simple, but all 11 of us were blown away! Absolutely recommend!
Had a fantastic lunch on the weekend here at clearveiw. Everything was just perfect. The wait staff were awesome and super helpful. The meals were Devine.. the best platter we have seen!!
Lovely lunch in beautiful surroundings. Greta was a wonderful host. So informative and natural. What an ambassador for the winery.
We went here for lunch and it was amazing! Great service and atmosphere. The beef eye fillet was the nicest beef meal I have ever eaten! The other meals looked great as well. We will certainly be back here again!

This was our last stop on our 2 day Hawkes Bay wine tour and we're so happy that we stopped here. Owner, Jill, let us taste their lovely selection of wines. We bought their Riesling and Malbec and we highly recommend a stop here. They had just won two trophies (Malbec and Cabernet Franc) and we loved the family atmosphere and Spanish feel in the architecture but most of all, the wines spoke for themselves.
An amazing cellar door experience, beautiful wines and excellent service. **Update 2021** - the cellar door closed in late 2019 according to the public website
The best of the four cellar door offerings in Te Awanga. The wines were great and our host, Trevor was incredibly knowledgable and took the time to share his knowledge with us. We stayed and chatted to him for about an hour! An all-round fantastic experience.

A remarkable place to visit around the beach. A number of holiday parks available. Beach is clean for a swim however tides can be heavy.
It's such a shame that the New Zealand government allows the privatization of land around some natural beauty. The free trail is along the beach, but you have to calculate the tide times because it takes a total of 5 hours to go and come back and the tide has to be low to be able to complete the entire trail. There is no longer the option of going over the top, because it is now private land and you have to pay 100 dollars for a tour to see the birds. It's better to see the gannets for free at Muriwai Beach in Auckland, don't sponsor tours like that.
Very disappointed, Google maps takes you to a private property. But drive further to a Cafe/small parking area before the campsite. And if you are fit and The tides out you have 2.5 hours to get to the cliffs and see the birds. And then get back... 5 hours apparently so dilly-dallying to check out the place. Such a shame $100 each doe a tour is way out our and many kiwi's budget.
Very disappointed, it's private property and you can't just enter unfortunately You have to book. Not recommended!
Even if you don’t go all the way to the bird colony at the end, it’s a stunning walk along the beach. Towering cliffs overhead. Beautiful geography. An easy to navigate beach walk, though pay attention to tides. There are some inlets to explore that look like they fill with water when it rains. But don’t expect to be able to climb up to the top of the cliff face anywhere easily. There is parking at the end of the road, then walking through a trailer park at the beginning of the beach. Great views. Highly recommend this hike.
The view is absolutely stunning! Remember to check the tide before you go. You can call to the office and they will tell you the exact time to start / end the walk. Whole walk is about 16km (6hrs - 7hrs). There is a only toilet before you started to hike up the bluff to the Gannet Colony.
Nice scenic area and the Gannett colony you get very close to the birds its a 9 km hike along beach each way or pay 60 to ride on a tractor trailer with seats to get there
Did the tractor trip out along the beach and walked up to see gannets. Excellent day out. Fantastic views. Take warm jacket, good walking shoes and packed lunch!
