Spectacular “English” gardens. Absolutely beautifully designed and around every corner is another wonderful experience. To top off a fabulous visit, two very friendly and lovable border collies joined us. Highly recommended for garden lovers.
This is a seasonal garden, it depends on the time of year you visit as to what you will see. It's very impressive to see the owners vision of garden rooms, hedges , paths, arbours and plenty more. Hard to believe it was a blank canvas when he started in 1992 . It's quaint and beckons you into every corner of the garden. I look forward to returning in the spring. A delightful little gift shop in one of the rooms in the historic cottage too. Parking is in the side street off the highway.
My husband and I visited the gardens today for our first anniversary. We met the owner, Ali, who was so lovely and saved our bacon by loaning us some umbrellas! Even though it was a rainy winter's day, this place is just beautiful. We spent an hour here just exploring and soaking it all up (literally). I don't think a 'bad' day exists in this little corner of heaven. We can't wait to come back for every season!
Located at 7480 Illawarra Highway, Sutton Forest, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺 This was a really lovely spot to visit. The statues situated around the garden really made the visit more enjoyable because most of the flowers 🌷 were not in bloom which is tea disappointing. It would have been nice to see the garden when there was more colour. The first thing you see is the beautiful 1820’s cottage which leads into the gardens. There’s several benches situated around the garden to relax and enjoy your surroundings. The cottage has a small gift shop also. Parking 🅿️ is not the best. There’s limited parking in the next street closest to the entrance but you have to walk along the busy highway to get to the entrance. We did have a member of the group with a walker and found some areas hard to push her walker. It’s not very accessible for people with mobility difficulties. I would definitely recommend visiting during the spring to experience the full benefits of the flowers blooming. But we still had a great time. Thumbs up!! 👍 👍👍
Beautiful garden to wander around and get ideas. Autumn is a brilliant time to visit, but each season would have its unique beauty.
Amazing gardens, which appear to have a range of seasonal flora. This means it's very likely worth going at different times of the year to see different things. Didn't spot any of the red cows that are apparently hidden about the place, but I still had a great time and took a *lot* of photos (only some of which I've posted here).
We went to see this year's Tulip Time Festival yesterday and decided to travel a bit further to see this garden due to its good Google reviews. We were not disappointed. This lovely garden has the seasonal tulips as well as many other flowers and plants. It is almost flat with easy walkways, but not wheelchair friendly though.
Lovely place to explore. Great location, parking is limited but that's to be expected for a privately held garden. Honestly it is such a nice place to rediscover why weekend's can be magical. Will undoubtedly visit many more times in the future. Kind regards

Group wine tour Amazing experience!! The lady hosting had such a great vibe and was exited to tell us about the wine the vineyard and how to properly taste wine in 4 steps ❤️10/10 experience. Her engagement and enthusiasm along with good wine and beautiful views made everything even more enjoyable.. I will definitely be back with friends again !! Thank you.
Just a coffee stop on the way to Sydney. Have passed this place many times and always thought “oh yeah, should try it out”. We finally did. Gorgeous grounds surround as we go down the driveway. Flock of geese grazing in a paddock. The cafe is well set up with small and large tables inside and out. It’s sunny, so we choose out. Coffee and cake will work for us. The coffee is large a robust, if lacking a little finnesse. The boldness is a nice component to the ginger and date cake with ice cream and caramel sauce that we share. The sweetness offset by the coffee. We survey the surrounds and are glad we made the decision to stop. Will return, with a visit to the cellar perhaps!
What a lovely cafe to stop on the way to Canberra. Beautiful grounds, sunshine, lots of delicious gluten free goodies and amazing coffee.
We enjoyed a lovely winery tour today. Michelle was a delightful and engaging host and the grounds were absolutely beautiful. The wine was top notch and lunch was delicious. The perfect day trip from Canberra.
Great coffee and excellent service. Plenty of room for parking and just the right distance from Sydney. Overall a great stop.
Great food, very friendly welcoming staff and beautiful garden estate, like an enchanting hidden gem that not many are lucky enough to venture into.
We stopped in for a wine tasting but left because the owner was very disrespectful and wouldn’t talk about the wine maker or wine unless we were in the wine industry. I was very disappointed in the failure to give a good experience.
Just such a great place to stop ! Amazing food & coffee - don’t drive past !

We had a great experience with Cherry Tree Hill Wines. We booked pairing chocolate and wine and pairing wine and pies. They were both so good! Great matching! I love their ideas and their wines were absolutely perfect as well especially with their homemade pies *chef kiss*, so tasty and hot, the best in winter like this. Besides, we also tried Dave's lasagna and it was super good too, we paired it with Dave's Merlot. The owner and the staff were also so friendly and helpful. They had good sense of humour as well that could make customers so happy and felt welcomed. Super fair price. Love it. Will definitely come back to try more things.
This is my second time back at Cherry Tree Hill Wines. Had to bring my family this time to show them the great wines and gin. We did the pie and wine pairing and the food and wine was exceptional. The atmosphere in the tent was great and Linda is so helpful and informative. Would definitely recommend!
Having driven past on the highway for years I finally visited in a group of 4 and chose the gourmet pie food and wine pairing experience. Wines and pies were lovely and our hostess was knowledgeable and friendly. The venue was cosy even on a bleak day. Great experience.
What a hidden gem! We absolutely loved our visit. Such genuine and personal service, a super wine tasting (I tried the pinks) and delicious cheeseboard accompaniment. A big thankyou to Linda for making our visit so memorable. She shared such interesting insights about the wines and region and was so helpful! We felt very welcomed and well looked after. Highly recommended.
Such an amazing experience and exceptional service. Absolutely had the best time wine tasting and trying out the cocktail gourmet pies, they were so yum! Will definitely be back again 100%
🍷🍷 Really cute little winery 🍷🍷 We tried one of their wines when we were eating at a restaurant and we decided to pay them a visit. It was busy but it was worth waiting a bit. Great selection of wine paired with cheeses or chocolates. If you are around, stop by and enjoy a nice tasting 🫶🏼
Linda was our gorgeous host for me and a small group of girl friends. The tent was very cosy with heaters and blankets on a windy day. Will come back in the summer to sit on the gorgeous grounds overlooking the vineyard. We loved choosing different tasting options as we each had different likes - this is genius! And of course there were quite a few favourites to take home. Highly recommend!
Always an amazing tasting experience here. As members we get to choose our cases and as we are close by we usually do that in person so we can take it with us. We regularly bring friends who are visiting because it is such an outstanding cool climate winery. Every time we come there is something new to try. Best pinot noir. Great attention to detail and customer service and the food is great too. Our favourite in the Highlands. Do book a visit, it is well worth it.

We had an absolutely incredible experience at Montrose House for our wedding! From start to finish, Daniela had thought of everything. We were provided with a portal with information/guides and a Google Doc to include details and any questions (which were answered promptly), making planning so much easier. The tasting lunch we attended with our parents allowed us to experience the food, drinks, styling options and venue firsthand before the big day. What really stood out was how Daniela and her team took care of every single detail. There was no need for any DIY on our part (we simply had to drop off our signage on the day). They set up everything perfectly and touched base with our vendors in the days prior, allowing us to fully enjoy our special day without any stress. The grounds were stunning, providing the perfect backdrop for our ceremony, garden party and reception. Another highlight of the Montrose House package was the beautiful cottage accommodation provided. It was the perfect place for us to get ready, adding an extra level of convenience to the entire experience. So many of our guests commented that it was the best wedding they had ever been to! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect venue, and we highly recommend Montrose House to anyone looking for a seamless, beautiful wedding experience.
We had our wedding at Montrose House in January 2024, and it was a magical day! The property is serene and is perfect for anyone wanting to get married in a country estate. From the beginning Daniela and her team were very professional and communication was always timely whether over emails, text messages or phone calls. We had access to a wedding organisation website, personalised run-sheet and seating charts which helped us in choosing the right local vendors and a very smooth running of the day. Daniela and her team were also very accomodating about specific requirements for our Hindu ceremony. Overall we had the most amazing day and everything flowed seamlessly- thanks Daniela and the Montrose House team! Photo credit: Elliott Kramer Photography
I am a Southern Highlands wedding photographer that has photographed at Montrose House on multiple occasions. The location and venue are stunning which is set in the beautiful Southern Highlands. A perfect location to have your wedding, highly recommended. John Benavente Photography
I did a live wedding painting here last month and oh my goodness, it's one of the most beautiful locations I've been to! Unfortunately, the wedding was moved to the barn due to the rain, so I painted their original ceremony location. I can see they've made some changes through the years. Everywhere you turn, you're greeted with a picturesque view. It's incredible in Autumn! The staff were all so wonderful as well. And even the bathroom is stunning!
Absolutely love working at Montrose House. Might be biased as I also got married here. Food is always 5 star, Daniela and her team are amazing and super helpful, as both a customer and a vendor. The decor and setting is so unique and beautiful it really sets the scene for a beautiful Southern Highlands wedding!
We celebrated our wedding at Montrose in September, and it was the perfect venue for us. We were looking to have a garden wedding, and when we inspected montrose we were more than satisfied with what it was able to offer us. Basically we were looking for a venue that could do it all, including an indoor/covered ceremony option that didn’t disappoint (which we ended up using due to unprecedented rain), being able to host the ceremony and reception (more easy on us and our guests, so they wouldn’t have to travel between locations), and also allow us to be able to take all our photos/video on site. Montrose ticked all the boxes and was a done deal. Not even to mention the bridal parlour (which my MUA and hair artists loved for getting us all ready - had heaps of space for setting up) or the cottage (which made it super easy for us to turn in after the wedding, and was so warm and cosy!) Daniela was such a pleasure to speak with and kept everything organised and on track leading up to the wedding (happily answering all my questions as the stress inevitably built haha). The day definitely wouldn’t have run as smoothly as it did without Daniela and her team, they did an amazing job, and I highly recommend Montrose if you’re looking for a venue that can do it all!
I was at Montrose House for my brothers wedding this weekend past 5/3/22. What an amazing estate! Beautiful wedding photography is a breeze here. From the moment we arrived the day before to familiarise ourselves with the venue the staff were warm, inviting and friendly. The lady who was coordinating was very helpful with her guidance and reassuring in the planning of the event. Being onsite all day in the lead up meant it was relaxing for the bride-to-be with somewhere to 'chill out' with her bridesmaids and a parlour for hair and makeup. Beside the reception room there is the new addition/wet weather option undercover but open on one side. It also allowed people to step out during the reception. Overall a wonderful option just shy of 1.5hrs south of Sydney for a wedding. Highly recommend!
I cannot imagine getting married anywhere else, Montrose House and Daniela are incredible. Let's start with the venue. When my husband and I first saw Montrose House, we had all but booked another venue. Montrose House was the 6th venue that we visited and on our way there we were questioning whether or not it was worth going to have a look . We then drove up the driveway to Montrose House and were blown away. The ceremony space is absolute magic, with grand old pine trees, stunning gardens, beautiful antique french doors and Montrose House (built in 1861) set in the background. It is hard to describe how beatiful this area is. You then progress onto the lawn, with incredible willow trees and an antique greenhouse used as the garden bar, the (newly built) open barn which is perfect for cocktail hour and couples as a great back up in the event of wet weather, and finally the reception hall with long tables, fireplace and basket chandelier. So many of our guests commented on how stunning the venue was! PLUS - bonus there is also the Parlour and Mews cottage on site which was not only great to get ready/ sleep in pre and post wedding but was also the perfect area for a babysitter to hide out in if you have any tiny babies that need to be close to their Mums. Then there is Daniela who is one of those rare people you meet in your life, who has such an incredible energy, that whenever you meet with her or speak on the phone with her, you are left feeling completely at ease and even more excited about your wedding. I would be lying if I said that Daniela herself was not another reason that we chose Montrose House. I have waffled on but the main message to take away is that if you book Montrose House, you will have the most wonderful experience from start to finish. Thank you Daniela, and the whole Montrose House team for making our day incredible.

We had an amazing experience! The Italian owners were lovely and welcoming, and the wine tasting offered great value with detailed explanations. The focaccia was so good we had to come back for more! 👩🏼‍🍳😭 We left with big smiles and three bottles of wine for our family. Will definitely return!💗
What a great and surprising experience we had visiting this winery! Very warm, welcoming Italian born hosts. It felt like we were visiting family. The food and wine were delicious, and we ended up staying much longer than planned. Our furry kids were also welcome and they loved it too. We will definitely return!
This place is what I imagine Italy to be. The owners are so friendly and the antipasto platter was delicious. We had the Pinot Grigio which we also really enjoyed.
Lovely authentic Italian style winery. Served by Nick a true gentleman with great hospitality and chat at a table under the grapevines. They do only a few wines but all of them were very good - especially the Pinot/Sangiovese blend and Botrytis dessert wine. The home made Limoncello was absolutely delicious. Our group were on a tight schedule otherwise would have stayed for longer in the sunny garden and sampled their torta and sorbets. Next time we pass by Sutton forest we will stop off for coffee and an antipasto platter. Thank you!
food is quite simple, but lovely setting and friendly service. nice stop on the road between Canberra and Sydney
Amazing experience here with a group of 11 friends and our kids. The garden is beautiful to sit in, overlooking the vines. There isn't a huge selection of wines but that's okay, they more than make up for it with their quality. The favourites were the Pinot Grigio and the Forest Red which was superb. Great service, great nibblies at a very reasonable price. The tasting fee was included and it ended up about $26pp (incl. kids shares) when we split the bill 11 ways - for tasting of 4 wines and a couple of dessert wines, snacks, the sorbet and a couple of bottles between us enjoyed in the garden. We were quoted $15pp for nibblies and tasting which is quite reasonable - without the sorbet & wine bottles. The cured meat platter was lovely and there were nice dips and crackers too. The lemoncello sorbet is not to be missed. We grabbed 5 between us to have a taste and everyone thoroughly enjoyed them. The dessert wines are beautiful - A lovely port and a nice Botrytis dessert wine. Space for the children to play in the garden and everyone had an absolutely amazing time. We went to two other wineries afterwards but this was everyone's favourite experience. We spent a little over 2 hours here in the garden and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hosts, Nick and Santina, were just so lovely and made sure we enjoyed our time there. It was no problem to fulfil our requests and they were quite calm about 11 adults and 7 kids. We recommend x11 (kids too! They loved the sorbet!).
A little slice of Italy! 👌Simple, delicious food from sweet and kind hosts.
The 81-year-old owner and aunt are like parents. The taste of delicious wine is another pleasure.Italian food that can be eaten together is also excellent. Alcohol made with lemon is by far the best alcohol in the world.

Mount Broughton Golf Club is certainly unique for its difficulty and championship layout. Regarded by some as a top 100 course in Australia, its pretty obvious why. The course offers a charming atmosphere in the picturesque Southern Highlands, just a small 10 minute drive from Moss Vale (give or take). The main takeaway from the course is certainly the scenery. Fantastic if you're a fan of country landscapes, and surprisingly, trains! Don't be shocked to tee off alongside the occasional coal train on hole 5 :) The layout is very nicely placed, solid par 72 with plenty of bunkers, and filled with lots of long brush on the sides (consider playing with the irish rule here!!), which in the summer can be the home of a few snakes 🐍. My favourite hole was definitely the par 3 4th hole, which was laid out beautifully paired with the train line at the back. The course is also home to quite a few facilities for warming up or practice, such as a driving range, nets, putting green, and a chipping area. It also has a proshop with the necessities and equipped with odyssey putters and srixon clubs. Pro shop staff were friendly, and very relaxed, and lessons are also avaliable on site. The course is in conjunction with the plush 5 star peppers manor hotel, which has a restraunt and accommodation for golfers wanting a luxury weekend getaway. My favourite part about the golf club was the clubhouse, which looked quite charming and clean. Food and beverage is also avaliable upstairs after your round. Onto my nitpicks, the course often gets washed out and flooded in heavy rain, which is a shame because it's such a nice course. I also noticed how quiet the course was, for a top 100 championship course with relatively inexpensive green fees, I thought it would be much busier on a Saturday morning. And finally, the hire clubs need some cleaning, the grooves were a little bit blunt and affected my spin control, not too major though. To conclude, Mount Broughton is a severely underrated course with a very charming atmosphere, and is recommended for the serious golfer looking to take their game to the next level. It's also a great destination for a weekend trip with mates. With what I have stated, I give this course a 4.7/5 (rounded up to 5) :)
We enjoyed playing this course so much that we booked a second round for the following day. My partner is a 7.8 handicap, and I am a 24. We both found the course to be challenging, but not to the point of sheer frustration. It is beautifully maintained in a gorgeous area of Australia (Southern Highlands, about 90 minutes south of the Sydney CBD). We traveled without our own clubs this trip, and Mt. Broughton provided us with the BEST hire clubs we have ever used, anywhere. They were brand new Titleist clubs (and they only charged 50AUD, which is less than we paid for horrible clubs elsewhere in the country). The hospitality we received at Mt Broughton was unmatched. Matt was so friendly and accommodating! A nice bonus was the delicious selection of fresh sandwiches and baked goods that we enjoyed before the round, and the delicious Shiraz we enjoyed on the upper balcony of the beautiful clubhouse after the round. The greens were a bit slow after having been recently aerated, but Matt assured us that the club is looking to improve the speed of the greens in general. Pace of play was excellent. If you are anywhere near Mittagong or the Southern Highlands area of Australia, do not miss playing at this course.
Beautiful course! Matt in the pro shop is a great guy and looked after us as a large group of 32. If you’re looking for stunning golf in a relaxed environment, look no further.
Mount Broughton is one of the most beautiful places I have played around the world. It has some quirks but the atmosphere is amazing. My wife and I would also like to add that the hospitality and service is some of the best we have experienced in Australia and the club sandwiches are to die for ! We can’t wait to come back here one day in the future.
Mt Broughton is a great experience. The golf course is amazing and conditioning is continually getting better. Staff and facilities are awesome too. The only thing they need to do is make the greens faster. They are too slow for a course of that quality.
Have always wanted to play here and finally got there! Beautiful, challenging course, late tee time so playing the 18 by torch light was very romantic and picturesque. Played a social round with friends so no gps didn’t matter! Staff very friendly and welcoming, tiger snakes asleep but still didn’t risk venturing into the rough! Will definitely be back, maybe in summer!
Played at Mount Broughton, it is one of the best courses i have ever played it’s only downfall is the slow but true greens and lack of bunkering. The hospitality is the best I have ever experienced, Mat in the pro shop would go to the ends of the earth to ensure a pleasant experience. This place has the potential to be one of the best in the country
Great challenging golf course. Bring extra golf balls so if you miss the fairway the snakes will eat your ball. Looking in great condition at the moment would recommend to anyone. Good friendly staff willing to help you 👍

I just cannot state enough how much you must go here. It’s the most stunning puppetry done so beautifully. The performers are so skilled, friendly and engaging. My son was absolutely mesmerised, giggling away throughout! He hasn’t stopped talking about it since we went this morning. It’s more than just a performance, it’s interactive and engaging and an experience. I can’t believe this gem is available so affordably in Sutton Forest.
Really excellent puppet show theatre experience. 40min and great for preschool kids and older. Family friendly space with space for younger toddlers to play while older ones watching. Lots of different types of puppets to see. And such wonderful puppetry that inspires creativity! I wish they gave lessons! We will be back again soon. If you’re in the area, definitely make the effort to attend a show. 11am every Sun!
Absolutely incredible puppet show. World class professional artists with a great show for kids that's also fun for adults. We'll be back again and again. Apparently the show changes every two months. Do youselves a favour.
Delightful show for kids. Turn up a little early to meet the puppeteers and their dog. You get to have a play with some puppets. My 4 and 6 year old were mesmerised.
Such an amazing show! My two year old and five year old absolutely loved it. We will be taking some other family members to check it out when we are next in the southern highlands.
These puppet shows are really special. Very skilled delivery with diverse puppets, a treat for adults and kids.
Absolutely delightful puppet show, I was beaming the whole time! An absolute gem of the Southern Highlands, so charming.
