My Dad and I loved sharing our private beginner lesson! I’ll be back to chase more of those amazing, exhilarating moments when everything comes together. Great value with lots of waves and attention for maximum improvement. It was so satisfying making progress thanks to calm, clear instruction from Shane.
Incredible First Surf Experience with Shane! Our family of four (myself and three kids ages 12, 10 & 8) had never surfed before, but Shane from Broulee Surf School worked magic! By the end of just one lesson, we were ALL standing up and riding waves into the beach. Shane's teaching style was perfect - clear, concise instructions on land followed by helpful guidance once in the water. His encouraging attitude made all the difference, especially for the kids who were a bit nervous at first. What stands out most was Shane's patience and positive energy. He's not just a skilled instructor but a genuinely nice guy who clearly loves sharing his passion for surfing. The location is absolutely stunning, and now my kids are completely hooked - they're already begging me for surfboards! If you're looking for a fantastic family activity that will create lasting memories, I can't recommend Shane and Broulee Surf School enough. We'll definitely be back for more lessons!
I would like to sincerely thank Broulee Surf School, especially Shane and Scott. From the very beginning, they taught me with patience and care, helping me progress step by step until I was able to pop up and gain the confidence to catch my own waves. I truly appreciate their guidance and support, and I will definitely recommend them to anyone looking to learn how to surf.
We booked two teens into surfing lessons with Shane. Both teens had a great time and improved their skills over the two sessions. We will definitely book in for some more sessions. Highly recommended.
THE BEST SURF INSTRUCTOR!!! 10/10 would recommend!!!!! His surf lessons are by far the most impactful I’ve taken in my life!!! Shane is hands down the most skilled and qualified surf instructor in, dare I declare, all of Australia. He is incredibly knowledgeable and has decades of surf experience at the highest levels of professional competition. He can improve ANY surfer no matter what level they are at! He helped me move quickly advance while teaching me the best practices and always finding the optimal waves for my ability. Shane is incredibly patient and will make you feel safe in the water. Above all, he will help you build confidence at every stage. I cannot wait to return to take more lessons with him!!! Thank you, Shane!!!! 🤙
Shane was such a great instructor! Had me standing up in my first lesson! A great experience especially for myself who had never surfed before! 10/10 🏄‍♀️
Shane was great. Booked lessons for my son. Super accommodating. Friendly. Professional. Best in the biz. Wish we had booked more lessons. Hope to be back one day. So many breaks so little time.
Shane, Thank you very much for Alex's custom solo lesson. With your great tuition and close attention, he learned the maximum possible and we have great pics and videos. He lands home on 29th and is going out with his mates. His stories from only ten days DownUndah include cracking a stockwhip, catching boomerangs, blowing a didj, playing guitars, seeing the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, whales, seals, wallabies, kangaroos, black cockatoos, kookaburras, parrots and now surfing the South Pacific. It might be a while before he stops talking... Thanks, champ. Cheers, Glen Thank you very much for Alex's custom solo lesson. Great beach for kids of all ages. Rock pools, tidal estuaries, playground and surrounded by a great friendly community.
Be careful while swimming. I landed on a sharp rock, cut my hand and leg and ended up having 10 stitches from an emergency unit. Believe me, they are very sharp.
Broulee Beach is a very nice beach and is a bit more sheltered on the east side. Very nice for swimming or snorkelling. We walked to the beach, as there is access from Shark Bay. So it is nice going for a short walk between the beaches. There is meant to be a track to Broulee Island, however it is not signposted at all. So if you are trying to find the track to the Island, don't expect it to be clearly signposted or marked.
At the very far northern end of Broulee Beach lie some very large rock formations that project into the ocean. These act as breakwalls, taking the force of the waves and creating safe harbours beside them, no matter the surf conditions. This comes in very handy today, as a big swell is making the actual beach part of North Broulee really only suitable for surfers, and they’re having a great time. Us swimmers though were happy to shelter beside the enormous rocks and enjoy an ocean swim in relative safety. Keen to return here with snorkeling gear, as this spot seemed to have a lot going on under the surface. There’s a free car park close by and even now, in peak holiday season mode, there were plenty of spaces. At high tide, the mouth of the Candlagan Creek that you walk past to get from the car park to the beach would likely also make a pleasant swim spot.
Awesome beach. Little river that has fish in it for the snorkelers. Check the tide though as a few hours each side of high tide is ideal. Bridge to jump off for the adventurous and adventurous at heart. Beach good for surfing, sand castles and playing around.
Imagine having the entire beach to yourself!!? Crazy right! That was my experience! The entire beach was empty! It was so calm and soothing and you could actually hear how deep the ocean is through its waves!
A brilliant beach. It's quite popular these days. Gets very busy at holiday times. Only a short drive from Batemans Bay and surrounds. The beach is quite scenic, and has headlands the the north and south. It's also an ideal place for people who want to learn to surf. Surfing lessons are available here. There's a takeaway shop close by too. Definitely one of the best beaches on the south coast!
Definitely my favourite neighbourhood beach, dog friendly as well. My dog loves it, very calm on the southern end. Dogs aren't allowed on Shark Island sanctuary but there's plenty of beach leftover to play

Loved this place. Walk to island was easy. Nice little bay there too for swimming and the island at low tide was lovely to explore the exposed rock shelf and beautiful seaweed gardens full of colour. Enjoyed my walk there.
Nice park beautiful nature l love this place
Beautiful walk, lot's to see. Family friendly, can highly recommend!
Very good scenic place. nice walk to the island, can spend around 2 to 3 hours here and also can make it as half day visit for the family. The waves are less hence swimming is good for kids.
Small car park, the walk is unmarked. Around the island, very natural, over rocks...30 minutes perhaps. Beautiful location.
Small car park but good starting place to walk around Broulee island which is excellent, takes about an hour to stroll around or over, very popular during the warmer months. National park so ABSOLUTELY NO DOGS THIS MEANS YOU.
Broulee is always my goto at the coast.
A beautiful quiet beach

We had a great time as a family with Joey, who taught the children so well. He did everything to ensure that we all enjoyed the session and the children (aged 6 and 10) made a lot of progress in the space of 2 hours. A great surf school and a great place to learn!
Had a great 1:2 lesson with Joey at Broulee. He really tailored the session to suit both of our abilities and we both managed to use the techniques he taught us to improve. Joey kept the psyche high whilst making sure we were both safe and comfortable the whole time. Would 100% recommend :)
My second time here, and I will definitely be back! Joey is amazing, and Alex was wonderful—if he hadn’t told me he was new, I would have never known. Both of them were patient, encouraging, and made the whole experience so much fun. They got us all up and surfing, and we couldn’t be happier! The team was incredibly accommodating, handling all our last-minute changes with ease. It’s clear they genuinely love what they do, and it shows in how they treat their customers. Really, really recommend this place—such a fantastic experience with truly great guys!
Thanks Team, we've loved learning with you these last few wild days. Joey was amazing with our reluctant kids, he was super supportive and lovely. Tim, really appreciate your expertise, and perseverance while I learn the basics. Thanks so much, you helped me to build confidence. We really loved it all
I really enjoyed the group surf lesson. The hire wetsuits and boards were clean and comfortable. Joey was an excellent teacher, taking time to make sure to give everyone in the group some personal instruction on technique as well as confidence boosting vibes. I was only in town briefly but I can see why others were attending the lessons all week. Would recommend and would go again.
Kids had an excellent week learning how to surf. Joey & team were super friendly & fun!
What a great time we had! First time surfing, Jacob and Joey made us feel really comfortable providing useful tips and being there at all times if needed. We were 3 beginners and we all could stand up and ride a couple of waves on our own, much better than we expected! Thanks, highly recommend when in the area :-)
Get a Lesson! We are a family of 5 with children aged 4, 9, and 12. Joey and Ellen got our entire family (including mum) surfing on our first lesson. We have had lessons previously with mediocre results. Joey and Ellen communicated everything from safety, to technique in a professional way that was simple and easy to understand! The Beach is fantastic! Perfect surf for beginners. Piece of advice, If your on holidays and want to try surfing. DO NOT waste your time hiring a board and thinking you can learn by yourself or with youtube etc.! Spend the extra & get the lesson. That way you have the best chance of riding some waves, on your holiday. Not just faceplanting with the same mistakes for your precious hour of board time trying to figure out what you're doing wrong.... You won't regret it!
