What an amazing view of the Waikato River from this bridge..visited during lockdown number 2 I was quite captivated by the scenery and tranquility I got while here..lovely
Nice walk from from the Horoitu Bridge to the Cycle Bridge. There is parking at the Horoitu Bridge and it's about 6km return walk. Once you've walked over the Horoitu Bridge, the track is easy to see. It's a cycle track so be careful if Cyclists- they have a sense of entitlement and can be quite aggressive on tracks.
Beautiful bridge. Great place to view the river.
Awesome place to yes as a destination from Hamilton on a bike or Ngaruawahia on a skateboard.
Lovely walk 🚶‍♂️ along side the river. By yourself with a dog 🐕 or a friend
Fantastic cycle bridge (especially at night!) Access is from Lower Esplanade or Matariki Drive in Ngaruawahia or Horotiu Bridge at Horotiu end (no access via Amani Lane). Definitely an iconic bridge!
This is a great track! My daughter loved walking across the bridge! Most bike users are considerate and ring their bells before passing. However there is a select few that need to prewarn before they go past as it can be quite startling, especially for a toddler!
Beautiful cycle trail bridge along the Waikato River. Well worth a bike ride along the Te Awa river trail between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia just to experience this fantastic bridge. Also very impressive at night due to the lights in place on the bridge. Award winning and well worth a visit.

Dee and Dan were amazing! They met us at the Hamilton Gardens pick up spot, fitted the bikes to us, gave us a demo and encouraged fun along the way. Service outstanding and so cool to support this Community. Couldn't recommend hiring the bikes enough and doing the TeAwa River Ride along the Waikato. Perfect team building activity for us :)
We had an awesome experience with River Riders! Booking was really easy—even last minute—and the team were helpful and relaxed, which made the whole thing stress-free from the get-go. The bikes were in great condition and made the ride super enjoyable. We had a fantastic time on the trail, and it was clear the team at River Riders just want you to have fun. Loved the local, family-run vibe; friendly and welcoming, with a genuine, down-to-earth approach. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun and easy cycling adventure!
Hired an KTM ebike for two weeks or so during my visit to Hamilton NZ. The bike and level of service from Dan and Dee (the owners) was exceptional. Would thoroughly recommend River Riders. The cycling along the river was superb and it was great to get a little "ehelp", on the few and far between up sections.
Best service recovery experience. We booked 2 stepper bikes online and when we arrived, they were out of service. We were so disappointed as we wanted to try them out, but instead we were offered 2 x very nice e-bikes, valued at much more than we booked the stepper bikes for. The bikes were excellent quality, well maintained, and made our Te Awa River Ride a wonderful experience. They even let us drop the bikes off at the city shop, as it was closer to our hotel. Kia ora for making our short stay in Hamilton one to remember.
Loved it! We started this amazing adventure at Hamilton Gardens and cycling towards Ngaruawahia. The trail was a blast, offering beautiful river views with a nice mix of ups, downs, turns, and smooth stretches that kept the journey both interesting and relaxed. Dee and were super friendly and accommodating! I can't stress enough how much I recommend this experience.
Fantastic half day on the bikes. Seats adjusted to proper heights. Bikes well maintained and good to ride. The river trail is 39k return. Lovely people running the shop. Would do again but ran out of time.
Excellent bikes! Smooth operation and worked perfectly. Very well maintained. Friendly and enthusiastic customer service! I highly recommend this company for hiring e-bikes. Thank you for a great experience!!
Hired two ebikes for my parents today. Dan had everything set up in Ngaruawahia ready for us. He gave my parents some quick tuition on the bikes and we were soon making our way on the Te Awa river cycle path. The bikes were perfect for my parents, they were easy to use, step-through, well set up and provide plenty of adjustable assistance thanks to the electric motor. We covered some 20km and the battery was barely showing any signs of use. The range on these must be incredible! It was great to ride with my parents as without the e-assistance, they would have never joined me for such a ride. A great cycle ride was enjoyed by all. If you are considering this ride, do it. It's perfect for less experienced cyclists. If you are thinking if hiring an ebike, Dan from RiverRidersNZ is the man to see. You will not be disappointed. An easy 5 stars.
