Visited Stewart Island in March 2024 and did all RealNZ experiences and I can safely say that all the trips (Village & Bay Tours, Ulva Island and Kiwi Encounter) are outstanding with amazing guides and skippers providing an in depth and unique history of Raikura. And also by having the same guides for all trips it created a personal experience with them thus enriching the trip for a solo traveler like myself. For me the standout tour was the Wild Kiwi Encounter. This tour started in the late evening and provided so much more then I expected. Our guides: Karen and Natasha gave us in depth commentary throughout the tours and used their vast knowledge to help us site species like penguins, sealions, albatross and of course Kiwi. Furthermore throughout the entire tour hot drinks and snacks were provided to warm us up after the chilly but amazing bush walk. I would highly recommend these tours to anyone with a passion for wildlife and history!!!
It’s ssssoooo bumpy to take a boat to Stewart island!! It’s hard for you not to throw up. So if you are easy to get seasickness, please please please take a flight to the island, or you will feel uncomfortable for the rest of the days, MY own experience!
Efficient service, including changing my booking with no fuss or extra cost. Ferry ran on time and was comfortable with some interesting commentary. Great experience.
Amazing. Very professional staff. Well received and treated even on a rough day!
The first encounter when you disembark at Oban.
Smooth and efficient process in getting to and from the island.
Good waiting area with nice views, but the toilets on both occasions were absolutely disgusting and stunk of urine!
Friendly and helpful staff. Nice waiting area with tables, chairs and a great view.

Really good experience with Anthony on the Tequila boat. He had great communication needed to work around the bad weather and get us out on the water when conditions were good. He was very knowledgeable with fishing, the types of fish we caught and the wildlife around us which were blue penguins, and albatross. He stopped to show us the birds which was really cool. We caught more blue cod than I expected too which was a bonus. Great day out, thank you so much.
Ant was great! Organised, engaged with our kids, did beautiful filleting of our large blue cod catch. So good he can even eat a banana on the boat. We had a great day!
Best day of fishing in NZ during my three months stay. Anthony is a great and experienced captain and very handy person. He brings you where the fish are. Blue cods are bigger in Stewart Island than anywhere else in NZ. If you have to do one fishing trip, take the ferry or the plane to Stewart Island and book with Anthony. You will not be disappointed.
We flew to Stewart Island with Glenorchy air and gave Anthony a ring on the off chance he could take us fishing. What a magic afternoon. We're leaving on the flight with 6 blue cod and the biggest, saltiest smiles. Amazing seeing all the sea birds in action with plenty of fishi as a bonus. Thank you
Anthony was organized, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area, birds, and sea life. It was a bonus to watch him raise fishing pots and learn more about the fishing industry. He cleaned our catch and we had a great meal that evening. I would definitely book again!!
Had a fantastic trip out fishing 🎣 out from Stewart Island with Anthony. He is very helpful .He gose out of his way to give you a great day out fishing. He supplies all line bates. He even fillets all the fish and bags it all up for every one.I would recommend anyone who wants to go fishing 🎣 out from Stewart Island to give Anthony a phone call and go out with him.
We had a fantastic afternoon on Tequila with Anthony. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Stewart island. Too many Cod so we finished early to look at Cod pots and found a crayfish. We saw a beautiful Royal Albatross flying around the boat with lots of Mollymook and Buller Albatross. The hand lines are so easy to use - having never done that before.
Brilliant experience with Ant who looked after us perfectly for the morning. Ant told us about the birds and islands and took us to a calmer spot to fish but still allowed us to catch enough for a feed for everyone and Ant expertly preps the catch to take home. Saw penguins and many Mollymawks (small albatross). Really friendly and enjoyable experience. Thank you very much 👍
