Great beach for families, fishermen and also some nice waves when conditions are right. If you want to challenge yourself there is some good rock-scrambling opportunities that go all along the stretch from sailors grave to salmon rocks. Wear sensible shoes! Parking can be tricky on warm summer day so pays to get there a little bit early.
Cape Conran is a remote and beautiful stretch of Victoria’s coastline, perfect for those who love wild beaches and quiet escapes. Salmon Beach, with its sweeping sands, turquoise waves, and rugged headlands, is a standout. We wandered along the shore—apart from a few fisherfolk, there was hardly another soul in sight—watching the waves roll in: raw, peaceful, and stunningly beautiful.
This afternoon, I decided to drive down to Cape Conran and checked out Salmon Rocks Beach and Boat Ramp, Joiner's Channel and Homestead plus part of the Nature Trail to Cowie Bay Carpark. It was a lovely sunny day with a top temperature of 13 degrees. So this walk has been on my mind for a few weeks now but I held off doing it because I was waiting for the right time. Considering today was the only day this week with a sunny forecast, I figured I would take the risk. Even with a temperature of 13 degrees, it felt much warmer down here. As soon as I pulled up into the Salmon Rocks Beach carpark, I was in awe. This place is absolutely incredible from the vegetated sand dunes to the constantly rolling tide and obviously the giant rocks themselves. It's such a unique landscape seeing the way these rocks are arranged, creating narrow channels of water with crashing waves. Of course I had climb on top of the rocks to get some better views and fully appreciate the coastline around Salmon Rocks Beach. I walked part of the nature trail from here which meanders across some impressive coastal vegetation and into more smaller beaches. Eventually I reached the boat ramp and Jetty before continuing on to Joiner's Channel and Homestead. This is a very small area but one that's full of interesting history. Next I did a section of the Cape Conran Nature Trail leading up to the Cowie Bay Carpark. This part was much cooler and shaded as the vegetation on the sides was quite dense. There are a couple of mild to moderate climbs but nothing too difficult. From the Cowie Bay Carpark, I decided to head back to Salmon Rocks Beach via West Cape Road. As much as I'd love to walk the entire Nature Trail, I think doing it in sections works better for me. Salmon Rocks Beach alone was a lot to absorb and appreciate. But it also gives me a reason to return. Overall, Cape Conran Coastal Park is amazing. Even during my short time here, there was so much to see and explore. And it seems to be a very popular spot for tourists, particularly families and couples.
Fantastic place for a day out, take a picnic and checkout the rock pools, great place foe a family day out a fish or a surf when the swells up. Love this place
A beautiful and secluded place. Stunning rock colours which you can climb up for some amazing views. The sand is lovely and hardly any litter at all. Dogs are allowed on the beach but you need to clean up after your pet. Some great photo opportunities and a definite place to stop off if nearby.
It’s peaceful and beautiful 🥰😌 We need 3 hours driving from home but it’s worth it 🌊🏝️
What a beautiful place. The rocks are great for kids to climb all over. Beautiful beach. Not even a hint of litter anywhere here. Let's keep it that way please people....!
Fantastic spot to explore the unusual rocks and coastline. Low tide is the best time, with sheltered swimming spots among the rocks.
