Observation boardwalk overlooking living rocklike organisms, called thrombolites, on the shore.

I’d never seen thrombolites before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but this was a very cool experience. Lake Clifton is lovely, and a sign marks the short road from the highway to the parking lot. Flush toilets are by the parking, and excellent information signs about the formations are found just before the very short path leads out to the boardwalk. These fascinating pillowy round stone formations stretch along the shore for a long way in each direction, and the excellent boardwalk provides terrific views as well as protection for the ancient living things.

Easy boardwalk near the Giants walk. The water was high but you could clearly see them. Watch out for the mosquitoes though. I would recommend insect repellent. Decent composting toilets at the carpark.

Even when underwater, these oxygen-producing structures are fascinating to see. The boardwalk allows a lovely walk to view them up close. I’ve visited these a number of times and they always look different. My photos below are enhanced, but that’s the fun part for inspirational art:

It's quite a sight! Very interesting to see the thrombolites. There's a short walk from the car park out to a boardwalk, very accessible. Public toilets located adjacent to the car park. This spot is just down the road from a brewery / restaurant. You could easily make this a half day outing as there are plenty of short to medium hikes around the lakes. Finish off at the brewery. Easy!

Nice stop at Lake Clifton, the thrombolites were interesting, though not mind-blowing. Worth a quick look if you’re passing. Also dropped by the Thorny Devil, great spot for a drink and bite!

Lake Clifton was full after good winter rains, so the thrombolites were submerged when we visited early November. It was a gusty day so choppy water made them harder to see, but it still felt like we were looking back through geological time at this fascinating natural "reef" created by organisms similar to those that first made life possible on Earth.

A lovely, short walk from the carpark to the Thrombolites. Very interesting and cool to see. There is also one of the Thomas Dambo giants in the area, and a brewery just up from the carpark.
