Big Crystal Creek, Rock Slides & Little Crystal Creek. Incredible, take the 1 hour journey north of Townsville to drop in on these amazing swimming spots. We went in June and even though it’s winter we still swam. The minerals in this water leave you feeling so alive. We did this in a day trip easily, no cost and great camping grounds if that’s your interest. A must do if in Townsville or travel to Cairns.
Had great day here. Good walking tracks, great swimming holes if you follow the creek.
This must be one of the most amazing places we have been to. It's definitely worth the visit, and we will be back. Bit about Paluma - Paluma is a very special place.  Nestled in misty upland rainforest at the crest of the coastal range, the village is embedded in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and surrounded by National Parks. It is a welcome respite from the summer heat of Townsville and during the winter you can smell the smoke from wood stoves throughout the village.
Beautiful place to visit for the day or to camp over night. As it is a national park you need to book ahead, but it is quite cheap & is an honesty thing. It is clean with drop dunnies, a cold shower, taps & beautiful grassy camp sites with free gas bbqs. There is a hike that takes you on a cemented path, through bush, bubbling creeks & a view of a waterfall. I would definitely recommend this place & will be back again
Such a beautiful place to visit when in Townsville. A 40 min drive and you’re in a place in the clouds which is at least 10 degrees cooler than Townsville itself. We did the Triple Falls hike which includes a rope abseil down to a gorgeous waterfall
Gorgeous spot. Water slides will be awesome after some rain, was a bit dry when we were there but still managed some ultimate wedgies!
Nice place! Bitumen all the way to the little crystal creek and to the rockslide. Have wonderful swimming spots. There's campgrounds if you want to stay for few days.
Paluma has a wide variety of birds, wild life and many good walking tracks its not a big place and a 2 day visit would be more then enough to explore most of it. Birthday falls and Lake Paluma are worth a visit as you can find the cossawary bird if you are lucky. We stayed at Fatima cottage in Paluma which was basic but the owners Bill & Lauren where the best hosts ever and very willing to help and tell us all about the area.

It was an amazing experience for me. I'll never forget it. I went here on a rainy day and this place was full of fog. I couldn't even see the bay or palm trees from this lookout. But I had this wonderful time inside the fog, chilling. On top of it, there was no other visitors. I really enjoyed the time and this place is well maintained and have several bbq areas(gas powered, provided). It is an amazingly beautiful place. There is a lot of birds as well. You must not miss it if coming to Paluma.
Beautiful view on a clear day. (Think the view might be better in the mornings cause it became quite misty in the afternoon) Has picnic/ bbq facilities and plenty of space for kids to play around. Toilets are quite stinky though. Has wheelchair access upto this point. Don’t forget your insect repellent.
Nice place for a picnic with a view. Plenty of green in the rainforest, in contrast to nearby-Townsville, which is brown most of the year. Gas-stoves, toilets and RV-friendly parking provided. Only a minute or two walk from carpark. Consider bringing mosquito repellent and sun protection. Sun and rain shelter is provided.
Beautiful scenic spot and very easily accessible for people with reduced mobility of families with strollers. The low clouds when we visited made for a beautiful tropical scenery and mist condensation dropping from the trees, but unfortunately has rendered the lookout useless. See attached pictures of ... clouds 😀 well worth the winding drive though, just not if you have car sickness 😉
Lovely hidden away place found just off the main road (the ONLY road). Beautiful view to the sea over the canefields, lovely new sh we lter/picnic sheds complete with stainless gas BBQ's clean tables, fresh water & composting toilets. Lovely patch of gently sloping grass for running around - fenced in to keep the anklebiters close at hand but best to avoid the energetic ball games - thick bush and a big drop will close the game down quickly!! No play area for little kids - this is found in the main area of the town.
Great walk with great views
What a great place to relax and have a picnic.
Easy walk with a stunning view!
