Nhulunbuy is a great place to visit, they also have one of the best Indigenous art center I have ever been to. I get to travel to remote Australian locations and have been to a few art shops and the like, but this place is the real deal!! Easily the most comprehensive and professional Indigenous art places I have been to. Stop in, the art, stories they have on display are amazing. No charge to enter and have a look around. Very friendly and welcoming hosts.
Entrance is free... All the artwork is done by the natives.... There is artwork for sale and you can purchase from them... They pack it well for transport
They've done this well. Great for school groups and individual tourists alike. Very good selection across a range of art pieces and styles. Good representation of indigenous work. We'll done to the centre's management.
Established in 1976, Buku-larrngay Mulka is one of the Australia's oldest and most celebrated indigenous Community controlled art centres/Museum that I've visited. Well worth a look.
If you happen to be in town, you need to visit Yirrkala Art Centre. This art centre has been well taken off, and you could buy art from here.
Fabulous art, staff and artists. Everyone very friendly but not pushy. Happy to share knowledge about pieces, materials and processes.
You must visit this art centre. Don’t forget. You need permit
Buku-Larrnggay Mulka was one of the highlights of our trip to East Arnhem Land. What looks like a modest shed from the outside is a beautiful museum and art gallery that rivals any in Australia. It's a wonderful place to learn about the local art or find a hand-crafted memento of this stunning part of Australia.
