Start on the Mount Samaria Road and climb to Mount Samaria's 953m peak for incredible 360-degree views across the Alps and lowlands. For the more adventuresome the Mt Samaria Summit walk also links to Spring Creek Campsite (5.2km, 2.5hrs one way) and Wild Dog Creek Campsite (2.2km, 1hr one way). Lovely scenic road and some surfaces are gravel
from base of park to summit it is a dirk track with some corrugation so be prepared for a slow drive, up to 45 minutes. parks victoria information on 135km out of melbourne is incorrect. it is 3.5hr drive. also parks literature says only 1 steep path - there are 2 very steep paths which can be extremely slippery and one area, rocky, so thread carefully but the climb to the summit is worth it - stunning view when you reach the top. best to camp one night and hike instead of doing a day trip.
The track's where over grown. NO water going down the waterfalls. The Mt Samaria Rd is very rough and probably needs to be graded But if you like to be in the bush alone to enjoy the peace and quiet This is a good place to go. Where there for 5 hours and saw no one. Not even another car. BUT! did see lots of wildlife.
Awesome relaxing place to visit. Road is a bit of a tight squeeze if cars coming from other directions. I recommend 4wds only as it can be rough and slippery when wet.
I always seem to find something new to explore here.. great for bushwalking, camping, and exploring spring feed creeks, waterfalls, stunning lookouts with all of the family.. also has some interesting history to learn about too..
Headed to the Mount Samaria State Park to do some bushwalking and geocaching. The climb to the top of Mt Samaria was well worth the effort with 360 degree views. The walk down to Black Dog Falls was equally rewarding.
Great park, a few hikes through it, multiple Campsite sites with firepits, Lots of wildlife, fresh rainforest feels. Lovely getaway.
Nice dirt road through the park with some steep sections. Loved the walk through the forrest up to the summit. Check it out highly recommended.
