It’s a remote location and not easy to get to but you will be rewarded with seeing the world’s biggest rock. There are easy and challenging trails to do and seeing its treasures such as Aboriginal engravings The ever changing colour of the rock and the remoteness make it an amazing place.
Unfortunately I believed the hype and misleading tourist information. This is not a monolith a single rock twice as big as Uluru. It is a monocline and part of a mountain range. We drove the 500ish kms on poor dirt roads and were extremely disappointed. If you are into serious hiking then it might be worth your time - if not don’t go.
Very good, we only did the easy walking 🚶‍♀️ trails, you would need to be fit & well prepared for the more difficult trails ,plenty of bird 🐦 song today, wildflowers🌸🌸🌼& butterflies 🦋, only drop toilets 🚻 available, take food & water with you, enjoy your visit 👍we visited in late winter, cool @ night 🌙 but perfect days ❤️ 💙
World's largest asymmetrical anticline! Beautiful landscape, special to be allowed on such an epic site that holds cultural significance to the Wajarri people with preserved petrogylphs that are a gift to be able to see. Last review was a bit harsh but some good advice - do your research before you come. Hobestly was worth it for the summit climb which was pretty special, i did it twice. Would i take a trip out here once a year? No. But still, may ir.may not be something that interests you. I do think comparing it to Uluru is a strange idea. Only one caravan park (no drinking water, fresh veg or milk but you can buy 'bbq packs') and not much to do around there othe rthan take in the landscape with some epic sunrises and sunsets and enjoy the lack of people who don't make it out this far.
So many walking trails to do ! Interesting stories about Aboriginal culture and early century pastoralism! The sceneries are great , red, ocre, brown and blues......
Check out signboard at the both corners of the Loop Road. Several trails from short to medium (2.7-5km) and the diehard summit trail (13km return). The Cattle Pool is the only water body in this area. The only camping or accommodation is at the Mt Augustus Tourist Park. Nearly Emu Hill Lookout is great for sunrise viewing. Be aware no dogs allowed in the National Park area.
Stood on the largest rock in the world - tick! Some state that it is twice the size of Uluru. The changing shades of orange contrasting the blue sky are stunning! There are lots of great walks BUT pick your times and seasons wisely. Some interesting petroglyphs left by the Wajarri people at three of the walks. We had an early start on a cool November morning but by the time we finished Edney's Trail (8.15am) it was getting hot. The sun bores down and then radiates back off the rocks. You need lots of water. BUT the views are amazing! The road from Meekatharra to Mt Augustus was about 50/50 bitumen and gravel with spots for overnight stays to break up your trip.
Great hike. Suggest you start early and take plenty of water. Need to have a bit of fitness to do this walk.
