We visited the park in late September 2025. We were on a weekend glamping trip with our family, including the grandchildren. The park was lovely for the kids, as there is plenty to do and it wasn't too busy. There is good parking and we had no trouble finding a spot.

Promenade Park in Maldon is a fantastic spot for a day out, especially if you're looking to enjoy both green space and a bit of seaside charm. The park sits right by the water, with a small beach area that’s perfect for a paddle or just soaking up some sun.
There are plenty of walking tracks that wind through the park. The open grassy areas are great for picnics, ball games, or simply stretching out with a good book.

The prom is one of my all time favourite places. However as I no longer live in Maldon we have to drive and today we wanted a quiet grassy spot and we knew the far end of one of the main fields would do the trick after having to leave previous venue just before 5pm. We wanted to be there about 3 hours so we could gently sort out tea and eat it. You are talking 5.30pm to 8.30pm. I expected to pay fair enough but £8 for 3 hours parking on a Sunday evening is too much. If it was upto £5 we would of happily used and their would be a 5 star review. I do also think £8 for a full day is fair.

Steeped in history, this is an amazing place to step back in time, aboard the Hydrogen Thames Barge.
We took a sunset sailing and loved every moment of our August summer evening adventure. Watching the crew pull up the ocre sails and cut off the engines, added to the tale.
The platters of food were delicious and the whole experience was worth every penny. We'd definitely do it again.

Been visiting Maldon for many years. Its well worth a visit to the Quay especially if you are interested in Thames Barges. We usually park the car in Promenade Park (pay) because of very limited parking at the Quay (1 hour) and walk beside the river up to the Hythe. Loads of free activities for children along the way, plenty of fast food and ice cream vendors, accessible toilets, loads of seating. There are 2 pubs at the Hythe. The Queens Head and Fish on the Quay. In my opinion the Queens head is much the better place, right on the quay, quick service, excellent food and beers, dog friendly, with very reasonable prices.

Wow what a fantastic Quay, lots of Old Thames barges, some being renovated, great pubs for drinks and food, great history here, there was vikings landed and fought off again and again, fantastic bird wildlife, its a great place for young children, an outdoor swimming pool and play areas, just love it.

I was walking down the high street with a friend of mine when he meat a friend of his that said we should look around as it was an open day, so we did and it was an educational trip where we learnt about how the courts used to work look at an old town census went to the roof and heard the bells ring, a lot as it was midday. very nice place and staff well worth a trip.

Had a delightful time being shown around the building. Guide was very knowledgeable, passionate, and understanding of my friend's fear of heights. Bouncing back and forth around the ground level, in between a secondhand goods sale, was a bit hectic but understandable. The steps inside are truly small, narrow and uneven - not recommended for people with mobility issues. On a clear day, the view from the rooftop is spectacular. Very worth the price.

I attended a tour of the Moot Hall, it's such a hidden gem, even though it's in the middle of the high street I imagine there are a lot of locals who've never stepped inside. There's hundreds of years of history to learn about and the tour guides are very knowledgeable. I'd definitely recommend this to tourists and locals alike.

We had booked a tour of the building online. The tour guide was very informative and the building is a little gem of history. The view from the roof is really spectacular and the history of the place is immense. It has been a private residence, a court room, council rooms and prison. It has the most beautiful spiral staircase. Well worth a visit

I visited in May 2025. A vast collection of weapons and militaria, stretching back hundreds of years. Also, an incredible collection of items used by military intelligence during WW2 and into the Cold War years. Plus of course the Donnington Collection of over 700 firearms. There is so much of interest here, it is well worth a visit of a few hours

A wonderful museum filled to the brim with a wide selection of military memorabilia from across history. Compromised of about 3/4 rooms which are densely packed and well laid out. Uniforms, weapons, badges, ordnance and more from the middle ages to present. Staff were absolutely lovely and extremely knowledgeable willing to answer all sorts of questions. Spent around 2 hours inside but easily could have spent more. 5/5 would recommend.

This was a superb find for me as looking for something to do. What an incredible museum with the biggest display of guns in the country. Over three floors this museum has displays of all original items from different theatres of war and includes , special forces, spies and home front. Spears, swords, uniforms and weapons. You will need a good couple of hours to see everything, very informative displays. Definitely worth a visit as the best that I have seen and a hidden secret.
There is free parking, admission is £9.50 for adults. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10.30am to 5pm. When we arrived we were greeted by a very nice and knowledgeable lady, Julie Ann Miller.

One man's stunning, eclectic collection. Run by really enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers, who are present to share interesting facts and point out rare and unusual items and give more information when requested and answer our many questions! (I think the gentleman's name was Dave... thank you!)
Free parking on site. Tickets very reasonably priced. Usually closed Monday and Tuesday, but open every day for school holidays.
A list of items does not do the collection justice so I won't try, however the spy section was really cool and the Victoria Cross display.
Husband is ex military and was really impressed with the scope and detail.
The collection spans 3 floors and is well laid out in sections. If you get overwhelmed with everything there is to see, seek out the yellow labelled items (rarest items or something interesting/different)
No cafe, just a coffee machine. Plenty of chairs to rest. Photos allowed.

This place is well worth a visit. I took my 10 year old grandson. All I heard while I was there was, "Nanny come and look at this", "wow nanny look at that". It's far bigger than it looks from the outside. Lifts on each floor and a drinks machine with seating area. I will definitely go there again.

I had a private tour of the library upstairs, learning some incredible information about the books, the building, the history, the people... It's seeped in a rich tapestry of tales to tell.
Downstairs, there is a shop full of items made by local crafters and artists. You could easily spend a small fortune (and I did).
Every single person from the ladies upstairs in the library, to the ladies downstairs in the shop, were very friendly and embraced conversation. I could've happily talked all day. The combination of information and personal touches make Maeldune heritage centre a fantastic couple of hours that I recommend to anyone with a curious mind.

This is an incredibly important space for Maldon. Recently revamped to a high standard it is an excellent showcase for artists/makers and designers in the region. Highlighting the Maldon Embroidery by Humphrey Spender as a permanent showpiece, the gallery revolves around carefully selected exhibitions and offers quality gifts and cards in the shop. St Mary’s church May well have started as a timber stave church, though evidence for this has not been found as far as I have been able to check. Possible some record on f this was found during the the late nineteenth century restoration.
The first stone and rubble ( Kentish rag stone and flint cobbles was built about 850AD. Parts of this structure still survive including the north wall of the nave and the remains of the Saxon arch between the nave and chancel. Looking towards the altar the typical ‘long and short ‘work forming the bearing for the Saxon arch still stands to the left of the Norman arch. This former corner is capped with the spring stone from which the Saxon arch sprang. Above it is still the first stone of the arch. This spring stone, projecting from the surface of the wall, is reflected by the extant spring stone on the opposite side of the arch- above the pulpit.
It can be seen that the Saxon arch was wider that the existing Norman arch, built within it in the twelfth Century. This probable reflects the size of Maldon in the eighth and ninth century, when the town at the top of the hill had a Royal mint( near Silver Street, beside the Blue Boar).
The tower followed the Norman arch. It is a massive size with thick walls and stout buttresses. The west door displays (externally) norman carving around the outer face of the door arch.
Further additions to the church were made including the south aisle..
The upper part of the tower fell down in the seventeenth century, and was rebuilt in brick towards the end of that century.For some reason the brick mullion to each of the three windows to the top storey of the tower has been taken down. Projecting bricks for where the mullion divided to form two pointed arches atop the window still show.
The church was restored towards the end of the nineteenth Century, when the roof to the nave and chancel was rebuilt, and the stones of the Norman arch were largely replaced-only the first four or five stones of the twelfth century arch on each side and a few further up the arch still survive.
There are a number of interesting items within the church, chief of which is the stone staircase built into the north wall of the nave to give access to the former rood screen- a timber’ bridge’ across the front of the Norman arch, on which stood a carving of the crucifixion arch on which was Jesus, with Mary on one side and John the Baptist on the other.These we’re frequently destroyed by the Puritans at the time of the civil war (1649-1660) which they won.
There is also an excellent stained glass window at the east end of the chancel- again of the crucifixion, with startling colour-and and the war memorial to the fallen in the Great War (1914-19-19). This too is very well coloured, and conveys great sadness. Note that only the ground under the fallen soldier is red.
The pulpit and the three carved figures above the arch to the chancel each came from other churches.
The more recent timber enclosure to the vestry has been very successfully designed, is constructed of oak, and fits very naturally into the interior of the church.
At the west end of the nave is the new platform for the new organ.This has been designed with discretion and care, and shows how new work in an old church can be done carried out without depleting the quality of the old church.
Many other features can be discovered by the interested observer, including the two great oak doors , to the norther entry porch and opposite it, to the southern door, which now leads via a corridor to the recent octagon, which, again, is an example of a good addition to an old building.
Overall, this church has been found to be a very quiet building by visitors and users alike- probably a testament to its more than one thousand years of use for prayer, study of the scripture and song dedicated to the acknowledgement of the thousands of years of scripture of the Bible up to and since the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.

One of the best weekends of my life.
The crew (who are volunteers) worked tirelessly to make sure everyone felt safe comfortable and ensured everyone had a good time.
What was so lovely is that they were such enthusiasts. It was clear they took delight in showing how everything worked and explaining the history behind everything on the barge.
The boat itself was incredible. The whole thing is such a unique experience I would recommend to anyone.

We sailed and stayed upon Centaur for our friends' 30th birthday from Friday eve to Sunday evening. Our Crew were Claire, Alana and Mick. Very friendly people, easy to talk to and were keen to have us all get involved in part of the sailing.

We enjoyed a late lunch here on Thursday. Ordered some J20, white wine and a Mango Cider. We took full advantage of the outdoor seating in the beautiful sunshine as well as many other families and couples. We ordered the Queens Head Burger, the Scampy, peas and chips and the Hot Seafood board. It was all very enjoyable, with great views and family friendly environment. If you sit outside, you need to go into the bar area indoors. There are steps and a ramp to gain easy access inside. Place your food order and buy your drinks at the bar and remember your table number. It is not table service.

Visited the Queens Head on a very busy Friday night following a lovely summers day. Pre booking essential and you get a choice of inside or a fairly well protected,outside. We chose to have a drink outside and eat inside in the lovely Dining room with views across the river. This pub is actually on the Quayside next to where the old Thames river barges berth so it makes this spot very interesting.
The food was served in a timely fashion,considering how busy it was, by a friendly,helpful server. Two of us chose Haddock and chips which were very nice indeed.
Parking can be an issue with lots of restricted 'Resident Only' areas and the nearest public car parks a fair walk away and some closing at 8.00pm! so do your research before you leave but well worth it for this special place.

You'd think being a busy crowded pub the food would be a bit average, but you'd be wrong. The haddock was superb, light crisp batter encasing perfectly cooked fluffy white fish. The chips were spot on too.
They have a good selection of beers and the service is rapid and friendly.
Definitely worth seeking out, especially when you can sit in the sunshine with a delightful view of the river and Thames barges. A perfect place to enjoy the last of the summer sun.

First time in this restaurant, having heard good reviews. Food was presented well with very good size portions ! Service & waiting time excellent. Pleased we took the time to try this one out & would go back. Nice location and staff were lovely and attentive, but sadly, the seafood platter wasn't as described on the menu. The platter was meant to be served with crevettes and cockles but wasn't. The mackerel was warm. However, the mussel starter was lovely even though the mussels were small. Would definitely return, but the seafood platter isn't worth the money they charged for it, so I wouldn't recommend it to others who know quality seafood.

Second time we were the only ones in the pub and it still took 40 minutes for a seafood platter (which half the food was cold). Last time we visited it took nearly an hour for fish and chips. The manager stated afterwards that is was a “bank holiday weekend and it was super busy” no way really haha preparation prevents problems in my book and maybe some extra staff would have helped in the kitchen but when the food finally arrived it was ok and we couldn’t be bothered to order dessert we’d have probably waited another hour to get it haha shame it’s a super location and has huge potential to be better.

We went on the Thames Cruise from tower bridge to out past the Thames Barriers. It included a very memorable Tower Bridge lift and sail past Canary Wharf, Greenwich and the Cutty Sark.
What an absolute joy the whole experience was.
From the moment we stepped aboard we were welcomed so warmly and made to feel so very special. Then as we set sail the whole trip was so very relaxing and exciting at the same time. To see London from a whole new perspective whilst aboard the barge was amazing.
The buffet lunch on board was lovely and very filling. My wife is Vegan and she was catered for so well. Each and every member of the crew were very friendly , the owner came amongst us all to chat and tell us some interesting facts whilst we cruised.
The whole experience is highly recommended, we had a lovely relaxing time and were genuinely sad when it was all over. Going through Tower Bridge as it lifted especially for us was so memorable . Loved every minute and would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you to all involved .

We spent a whole day sailing around the Essex coast on an old sailing barge. The boat had excellent facilities on board and the crew were very professional and friendly. The trip included three meals, tea and coffee and a licensed bar. Everything about the trip was perfect and we'd highly recommend this excellent company.

Lovely cruise on the 'Hydrogen'. We were lucky with the weather too which made for some lovely views and photographs. The staff were friendly and polite and the boat was very clean. My only negative was the amount of food, personally would have preferred a little more than a scone & a slice of cake but I'd certainly recommend a trip to family & friends.

Have just had a wonderful day with Topsail Charters sailing from Maldon to Brightlingsea and back. There was a bit of rain in the morning but it did not diminish the sheer enjoyment of sailing the historic barge "Hydrogen". It was fascinating to watch the skill of the crew in manhandling the many ropes for the sails. The Skipper and crew were fantastic, very friendly, professional, re-assuring and keen to inform about both the barge and the areas we sailed past. Two lovely ladies prepared superb food all day with radiant smiles and could not do enough to ensure we all were well catered for.
Everyone felt completely safe onboard and it was very smooth sailing all day.A really excellent 12 hour experience and great value for the price.

We shared tapas dishes for starters, the calamares were delicious, albondigas and the cheese bread balls were too. We visited on a Thursday lunchtime and found it quiet except for two busy chefs and a very nice hostess. It is small but has a nice atmosphere with seating nicely spaced and comfortable. The food was very good, I had Hake and my partner had mussels both of which were excellent. Good wine and coffee, altogether a highly recommended lunch stop. Our bill just over £40.

The online booking system was easy to use, and the dining area was pleasant.

Fabulous!!! I booked for my birthday with my 10 year old daughter and my Mum. It was a themed afternoon tea, Alice in Wonderland. When we booked we advised of dietary requirements and they also spoke to my daughter about her likes and dislikes which I thought was a lovely thing to do.
It is a beautifully quirky place, and the food was delicious, my daughter was also very impressed as they swapped cream for buttercream in her sweet selection as she isn't a fan of cream and this was appreciated.
Later on they came out with 'drink me drinks' and also a box of 'eat me' biscuits. The whole thing was excellent. They really deserve to do well, all was so fresh, looked and tasted good with some surprises long the way. A Great experience and would definitely recommend.

We visited for my daughters 24th birthday. We were looking for something different to do but to recapture her childhood, we have never been to this little zoo although we have passed it lots of times.
We loved it! We bought some food to feed the goats and sheep and alpacas, and we had a free meerkat meet and greet. There were 6 of us and we all sat and patiently waited for them to climb all over us, it was so lovely. They didn't mind being stroked and it was really nice to see how their fur felt and they are all such characters.
The staff were so friendly and were happy to share information whenever we saw them.
They have got quite a variety of animals and the staff seem to be so knowledgeable.
The cafe was great and had a nice little selection of things to eat and drink and all very reasonably priced.
I really can't recommend this place highly enough. We will definitely go back.

My son and his friend enjoyed answering questions and encountering the animals up close.
It is very small and a little cramped, I enjoy Whipsnade for it's openness and very large enclosures so the reason for 4 not 5 stars is just the space issue, I felt a bit for the animals in small pens.
That said, they didn't have big creatures like lions or elephants, so perhaps these creatures don't need such a large space.
The whole promenade area is well worth a visit. There is a crazy golf opposite and a nice walk near all the boats.

Had a superb time this morning at the zoo, enjoying the private tour we’d pre-booked.
It was extremely professional and the guide was superb, providing details of each of the animals and answering our many questions.
Our son is in a wheelchair but the layout of the zoo is extremely accessible including when accessing the reptile area. The guide could not have been more helpful even offering to bring a chair into the meerkat enclosure.
Our visit was extremely interactive, feeding lots of the animals, handling a few, and even sitting with the meerkats.
Nothing was rushed, and we genuinely had the best zoo experience of our lives!
The animals are so well cared for, and that may be evidenced not just by their looks but via their behaviour, and how they engage with the keepers and the visitors. Most animals are rescue animals so we’re lucky to have a place such as this to take them in.

We had a lovely time visiting this charming, family-run zoo with our two young children (aged four and two). It’s a perfect size for little ones to explore without feeling overwhelmed, and there’s a great variety of exotic animals to see and learn about.

Having visited the quay thought I’d grab a coffee in The Jolly Sailor. The bar staff had no idea what an Americano was, you’d have thought I’d ordered some exotic cocktail. When the coffee arrived I wondered if it’d been made with the dishwater. To cap it all, they had the audacity to charge £3.90 which is more than you’d usually pay in central London.

Went with 3.5years old nephew and have not left disappointed. Paid £8 for 2h, have been running 15min late to leave as nephew wanted to stay longer. No pressure from staff about that.
A lot to do for toddlers and kids. Spacious. Coffee place in a middle for parents who want to sit down. We haven’t had an issue to find free table for lunch and chill too.

The kids enjoyed the soft play, but a couple of things let the visit down. We were told we weren’t allowed tap water and had to buy bottled — not ideal on a hot day with little ones running around, especially when one of their bottles leaked.
Also, someone had been sick just outside the under 2’s play area. Staff slightly cleaned it up but didn’t put a sign out, so my partner accidentally walked on the wet carpet it in socks and couldn’t join in with the kids after that. I ended up juggling a toddler and a baby solo — not exactly relaxing!
Could be great with a bit more attention to hygiene and family-friendly basics

Wow! Fantastic! Ended up going 3 days on the trot and it was over 40mile drive there. Helpful and attentive staff, very fair priced, absolutely loads to do. We have 3 boys and there was soooo much for them to explore. Clean, friendly, fun and recently refurbished I believe. It's an unexpected gold mine hidden in Maldon.

This place is dirty and run down. Ripped equipment with foam/padding falling out and old food squashed into the carpet. The place by face value is every kids dream until any decent parent looks at the state of the equipment and just how filthy the place really is for their child. I crawled into one of the tunnels to retrieve my 3 year old son and a clump of grey fluff/dust fell of the top of the tunnel and into my lap! At any given moment I was antibac wiping my son’s hands.
So many other great soft plays about, don’t waste your money people.

Awful place, it does not look like the photos on here from 6 years ago but rather one the place time forgot. The green slides sways when kids go down it and it is dusty everywhere. My under 5 year old got told to leave the under 5 area when she was playing quietly (NO IDEA WHY!) To add insult to injury, we spent a lot of money going in and at the Cafe but they refused to give us tap water when we asked and pointed us to a sign saying it was their policy. A very young and incredibly rude employee behind the cafe stated that they don't have to as they don't serve alcohol. Zero manners at all and so unnecessary, especially when we had just bought coffees and cakes. This place needs to be shut down and condemned. I will never be back and sincerely regret giving a penny of my money to this place when they clearly don't give a hoot about the welfare of the kids who attend.

This place is the Tardis of indoor soft play places. As you enter through the child safe entrance and exit area, you can see it sprawl out ahead of you. It's across 2 floors with viewing seating areas on both levels. There's a cafe on site with extremely reasonable prices too.

What a lovely day we had with our family! We booked two 25 min sessions online as we knew that only one wouldn't be enough. There was no wait for the entrance. The splash park is very nice and clean. There are many different sprinklers to play and to have heaps of fun with. Once our session ended we moved on to have icecream and children played on two different playgrounds. One is smaller with sand surrounding it, great for different digging games and the other one is a really big and ship shaped! There are also toilets, mini golf, a mini zoo and lovely fish and chip place that offers yummy chips and one of the best chicken nuggets 😋 We might be thinking about moving to Maldon as its lovely for families!!!

The price was very good (after much research elsewhere) the staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly when helping me with measurements, delivery etc. And although the goods are delivered to the shop in flat pack, they assembled it and delivered it ready made up. We had a fantastic time at Pirates Bay! It was our first visit and we can’t wait to return. Plenty of parking, lovely friendly staff and the whole place is immaculately maintained.
We went with our 4 year old daughter and she loved the mini golf, we had so much fun. We had a great time mining for gem stones. We found lots and it was great to take them home to keep.
We had the most amazing milkshakes and tasty hot dogs at the food hut too! Definitely recommend for family fun! Great value for money and there’s a park in the complex too so you can really make a day of it!

A fantastic family day out full of fun, laughs, and pirate vibes! 👨👩👧👦💥 We visited with our 3 kids and had an absolute blast.
🗺️ The course is beautifully themed – pirate ships, waterfalls, treasure chests, and even a talking parrot! Every hole has its own fun challenge, but it’s not too difficult, so younger kids can enjoy it too.
⚓ The attention to detail is great, and the whole place is really well maintained. The kids loved climbing around the ship and pretending they were on a real pirate adventure. 🏴☠️🦜
⏱️ It takes just the right amount of time – about 45 mins to an hour depending on how busy it is. We went mid-morning and avoided the crowds.

I had an enjoyable experience at Pirates Bay Adventure Golf. There were 18 holes in total, surrounded by interesting features and water which made it a nice environment to play in. I would say that the holes could have been slightly more challenging compared to another local crazy golf course, however the price we paid seemed reasonable enough. Really lovely 18 hole mini golf course. Myself and my 8 year old visited today and the man who served us was very polite and helpful. From taking our money to helping us retrieve our golf balls when needed, everything was done with a smile ans a kind word. We opted to do the new mining for crystals also which was £1 off with a game of golf and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed this. I was sceptical at first, wondering if 1 bag would be enough but it was! You get several crystals as well as a leaflet telling you what they are. Towards the exit, once you've identified your crystals theres also a board telling you where they come from around the world which we thought was fab. Very interesting. The mini golf is situated only steps away from the peting zoo, park, picnic area, skate ramps and splash park so you could easily plot up and incorporate this into a full day of fun.

Good Adventure golf within the Promenade Park, we had fun however it looks a little tired and run down considering it's only been open 2 years .if only the water features were full of water not leaves they may well work properly and a couple of the pirates could do with a link of paint just to make it look better and cared for.

Great place for photography at high tide. If you’re just wanting somewhere nice to go for a stroll it’s also lovely. Try to time it with sunrise or sunset. There is a car park at the entrance to the holiday park which is a reasonable cost however there appeared to be a car park that was free at a cafe nearby which also had lovely food and service. The beach huts are accessed from the promenade but be warned the tide comes in quick so be careful with your camera gear and wear wellies if you want to get on the beach as the tide comes in. You can shoot from the prom as well. Arriving an hour before high tide will leave you time to set up but you don’t get long so scout the best location beforehand. The photos are stunning if you get it right.

Just by pure luck when we were on the way to the Beeleigh Abbey Gardens, we came across the remains of a nineteenth century Beeleigh water & Steam mill.
They are open only by appointments.
This historical mill is one of the most attractive and fascinating in East Anglia.
Great guided tour with very knowledgeable volunteers and detailed history of the place available.
Apparently, water mills have been recorded on this site since 1066!
Steam came to the mill in 1845, when the Wentworth beam engine and elephant boiler were installed, which remained in excellent condition until today.
One part of the mill and particular the weatherboard water mill, was completely destroyed by a fire in 1875. The steam mill remains as we can see today.

We went here with the kids, grandparents and dogs as a morning/early afternoon outing.
It was really great value with an hour's tour with really knowledgeable volunteers.
The place is really well kept and it's great to see ongoing restorations to the buildings.
There is a simulation area where the kids can have a go at flying a plane.
The mess is excellent with tasty cakes and specials available alongside breakfasts and sandwiches.
You don't have to pay entry if you want to only have some lunch.

We came here on recommendation and so glad we did. We went for lunch in the mess, so no need to pay entry, only pay if you're visiting the exhibits. Daughter had the jacket potato and my wife and I had the roast dinner. It was truly fantastic. Lovely staff, unique atmosphere of eating in an old RAF mess, good value. Thoroughly recommended.

The museum itself is really interesting as are the 2 aircraft hangers that house replica aeroplanes.

Attended the Living History Weekend at Stow Maries Aerodrome today and it was brilliant. This was our first visit to Stow Maries, even though we live nearby, but it won't be our last. Our guide, Tim, was very knowledgeable and it was obvious that this place has a special place in his heart. There is so much WW1 history here. It is dog and child friendly and has good access for wheelchair users. Thoroughly good day out.

A brilliant day. Volunteers are so welcoming and the museum is excellent. It was a Flight Event, so pretty busy, but catering facilities coped well. The air displays were excellent...on an overcast day, you see more of the planes as you're not squinting in bright sunshine. The in/out for the car park was well managed too.
Great to see the last airworthy Fairey Swordfish, both on the ground and later airborne.

Hidden gem!
While not on the scale of the likes of Duxford and Hendon, this is a unique site and must for aviation / history enthusiasts. My friends and I visited on a Friday afternoon. Ample parking was available close to the entrance, where we were welcomed by some of the friendly volunteer staff, who provided a brief overview of the aerodrome. After paying the full entrance fee (£12) we spent some time in the museum section, which provided valuable insight to the history of the site and it's role in the defence of London during WWI. We then enjoyed a wholesome lunch in the Airmen's Mess, before joining one of the regular free guided tours, which provided even greater insight to the aircraft, buildings and personnel associated with this historic site. First me, a very worthwhile visit, and a special mention to all the volunteer staff who keep this place alive.

A large family group of us stayed here for some 40th birthday celebrations. The Glass House that a couple of us were in had everything we needed. The hot tub out on our deck was the best! Just for info, the Glasses houses are not accessible. Also, some of the sleeping facilities inside aren't as easy to access if you're older or have any mobility issues. That said, it's still a campsite. Albeit a very nice luxury one! Some of our family stayed in very well equipped tents, shepherd huts, and other types of lodges. I was told that the ones that didn't have facilities inside had access to very clean and secure toilet and shower blocks. But I can't really comment properly, as I didn't use them. The whole site looked clean, tidy, and well looked after. I felt there could have been information provided about the clubhouse, experiences, cycle, and equipment hire. We only found out about some of these things ourselves or from other visitors on the site.

I took my 3 children to stay in the marquess. This is our 4th stay. When we arrived we went straight to the toilets, they were disgusting! I assumed maybe some other guests had left it that way and it would be sorted when the check were made.
We went over to the deck house for dinner to be told they wouldn’t be serving food that night and to go to the beach house. On arrival there we were told they stop taking orders at 4 so had missed it, when I booked I was never made aware that I wouldn’t be able to get my very young children food (there’s no shop on site) I made reception aware I wasn’t happy but they told me they knew nothing about it so I had to drive out for a takeaway.
The toilets were not cleaned over the two night period we stayed. There were dirty sanitary products on the floors, over flowing bins and no hand soap available at any time.
Two ladies camping actually emptied the bins and restocked the toilet roll.
This is not a cheap place but you get very little for your money, other than the park and small arcade (most of the machines were off or empty)
For an extra £100 I could have stayed at haven for 4 nights with entertainment included. I did complain to reception while there and was assured the manager would be calling me to discuss our experience but nearly 3 weeks later I’m still waiting. Terrible service…avoid

This has changed over the years and unfortunately the owners are putting profit ahead of everything else.
There used to be a zip line, free outside exercise equipment and climbing equipment. Unfortunately, this has all been removed to make way for yet more caravans/ lodges with the removal of these amenities which were loved by so many people, including the camping population. This does not encourage teenagers and now restricts entertainment to ages 3 to say 8 years old, with no entertainment for older children.
The external entertainment is good, with live acts over the Bank Holiday weekend and on most weekends throughout the summer period.

We stayed for 2 nights in the touring section. Thr site is well located to travel around a little or close walk to the beach and walkway.
The pitch had everything we needed with electric and nearby water tap. We were a short walk from a toilet and shower block, where the facilities a little dated but did the job. There was a nearer block slightly further away but didn't go to them.
The site itself was very well maintained and a modern bar / restaurant which has various entertainment across the few days we were there.
Would certainly recommend and would stay again

Absolutely brilliant day. We've got to see the engine being powered up with compressed air. We got to ride the miniature railway. They had the mini deisal engine out that day.
All the exhibits were open, and all the staff were in costume.
The cafe/restaurant serves lovely food and drink, and has a lovely atmosphere.
And the little gift shop has a wonderful collection of toys, models, and artworks.
The grounds are beautiful for a stroll.
I cannot recommend the museum of power enough for a day out. There is something for everyone.

I went here during their country fair, it's a very interesting and enjoyable place to visit. Lots to see and do in the main museum, then there's a fun miniature railway outside to enjoy. I've been to the Museum of Power on a few occasions but it is by far the best on event days when the sun is shining. I attended a classic car show in the grounds wish was among the best I've seen. Inside the main building there are some examples of engines, kept working by very diligent volunteers. Honestly though, I don't think the exhibits have changed in years.

I recently went the Museum of Power show on 20th July as part of the Brentwood Model Boat Club display. As well as a gazebo with models on display we were able to sail our models on the River Blackwater much appreciated by visitors. The Museum had many things to do and see and now has an excellent cafe for refreshments. If you have never visited it is a special place to look round with a great display of all things steam ranging from a huge triple expansion pump engine to irons.

We returned for a model village candlelight evening, which happen on Fridays in October, the children absolutely loved it. Run by an army of volunteers, who do an amazing job, this place is worth a visit!

We have visited the museum many times for different occasions and have always had such a lovely experience.
Last night we visited the Astaria Village by candle light (over 500 hand lit candles) with our 3 children and we had such a magical time! Alan and Dave have put so much hard work and dedication into the magical fairy village and we even got to see them catch a fairy! We honestly had such a wholesome experience and felt so lucky to have these people in the world that do so much just for the happiness of others!
The event was completely free and these was a discreet fundraising pot for charity. There was also a lovely touch to light a candle in memory of a loss of a baby and there was a special area where these candles could be hung and left to burn all night, it was a very beautiful and very touching experience which was met with such compassion.
We ended the night on a lovely ride in the dark on the miniature steam train followed by cake and a cup of tea in the lovely cafe!
Would highly recommend and will be back again!!
Definitely go for a wonderful magical experience and have a chat with the lovely Alan and Dave and they may even share a magic trick or two with you!

St Nicholas Church is a 14th century grade l listed building. Built in the 1300s apart from some additions in the 1400s has remained unchanged. It has a very nice interior with an interesting tomb with a carving of an Elizabethan couple on it. It is a nice church to visit.

He started by saying that everyone was welcome to this particular church, whether you were gay or straight, love is love. Wow! I've never heard that in a church before!
During the christening, he got all of the children there involved in what he was doing. They each got to pour water into the font. It made this christening really stand out from any other I've been to. It made the occasion jolly rather than thinking how cold churches are & how uncomfortable the pews are!
