아무튼 멋진 풍광입니다
드라이캠프, 오프로드 등을 제대로 즐길 수 있는 곳이란 말만 듣고는 지난 여름 서부 로드트립중에 지나 듯 들른 곳!
그랜드캐년과는 또 다른 웅장함이 느껴지는 곳 이었다.
기회가 된다면 4×4 차로 조금 더 깊숙히 경험하고 싶은 곳이다.
하지만 너무 넓고 어마어마해서 준비가 많이 필요할 듯 싶다.
아치스 국립공원 왔다 어떨결에 방문하는곳 같지만. 그랜드캐년과 비슷한 광활한 캐년과 suv를 타고 수백미터 아래로 내려가 볼수 있는 말도 안되는 체험을 할수 있는 곳이기도 하다. 그랜드캐년같으면 상상도 할수없다. 꼭 suv를 타고 오시길! 초보도 조심만 하다면 충분히 주행가능하다. 인생의 가장 특별하고 임팩트있는 추억을 남길수 있다.캐년랜드! 이곳이 어떤 곳인지 이름에서도 나온다.!

메사 아치는 캐니언랜즈 국립공원 스카이 아일랜드 지역에 위치한 멋진 사암 아치입니다. 아래의 붉은 바위 협곡 풍경을 상징하는 일출 전망을 제공하여 방문객들에게 꼭 가봐야 할 명소가 됩니다. 아치로 이어지는 쉬운 반 마일 루프 트레일은 눈으로 덮인 개구부를 통해 캐니언랜즈의 장엄함을 엿볼 수 있게 해줍니다.
아치스 캐년을 방문했다가, 일출이 멋진 장소라고 해서 새벽에 방문했습니다. Moab의 숙소에서 45분을 운전해서 트레일 헤드에 도착했고, 여기서 메사 아치까지 도보로 15~20분 정도 걸립니다. 새벽에도 많은 사람들이 와서 해가 뜨기를 기다리고 있습니다.
고원 지대의 아치 사이로 해가 뜨는 장면은 웅장합니다. 그리고 그 밑으로 캐년이 펼쳐집니다.

상상하지도 못할만큼 큰 규모의 캐년랜즈. 그 곳에서 한군데만 고르라면 메사아치를 추천한다. 주차장에서 왕복 약 30분 정도의 가벼운 트래킹 코스. 그 끝에는 멋진 아치와 그 뒤로 펼쳐지는 엄청난 풍경.
사진보다 실제가 훨씬 예뻤던 곳. 아치 뒤로 보이는 광활한 배경이 아치를 테두리로 한 액자 속의 그림 같아서 정말 멋있었다. 꼭 해돋이 때 아니어도 해가 아치에 걸리는 이른 아침 8-9시 시간대에 가도 멋있음.
주차장에서 20분정도 걸림.
포인트에는 난간등의 안전시설 전혀 없고 위험함.
아치 넘어로 펼쳐지는 풍경은 상상 이상이고 위험도 상상이상.

해가 저물어가는 시간이라서 잠시들려 아쉬움이 많이 남는 곳이였다.
모압으로 돌아오는 길가에 있어 올라갔다 왔어요.
일출을 보기 좋은곳이나 일찍 가도 사람들이 사진찍으려 다 자리를 차지하고있기 때문에 사진을 찍으러 가는 사람들이라면 일출시간보다 훨씬 일찍 가기를 추천한다!

The Green River Overlook is absolutely breathtaking and one of the best viewpoints in Canyonlands National Park. It's so amazing to see the power of water and the beauty it can carve into the Earth! It took a bit of driving to get to this overlook but it didn't require any hiking. There's plenty of parking available.

This trail has a bit of a scramble over steep stairs and rocks if you struggle with mobility or just need that extra insurance I would recommend using poles as some of the stairs are pretty high and there is a lot of uneven ground. There is some slick rock so on icy days might help to bring traction gear. Starts off with a short steep scramble. There are two overlook points, and the trail all the way around is an 8.1 mile strenuous hike.
Lots of picnic shelters at the trail head with vault toilets, moderate amount of parking.

The colors of the rock and sand in this crater are surreal- with sandy beiges, red rock and green!
The hike can be strenuous as it is mostly uphill to see the viewpoints of the dome. The first view point is straight down perspective and the second paints the full picture. So we would def recommend to take the time to go to both.
Parking though is extremely limited but there are tables and benches for like a picnic which we loved as after a long hike, we enjoyed lunch.

The park is definitely underrated!!! We had just one day and were traveling with kids and seniors, so we could visit this one part of the park. The views are truly breathtaking and the whole park is so well maintained! There are a lot of viewpoints, which are really easy accessible! This is a part of Canyonlands that I and my boyfriend chose to explore. One of the reasons is that it was the easiest to access for us, as the other national park's parts required hours of driving.
The area doesn't have many roads to drive on, so you will very probably just follow the recommended stops and enjoy the views from the top of the canyons.

I felt prompted to review the trail itself (Chesler Park). But what really blew my mind that Sunday two weeks ago was the Needles area. It was a huge reward to make it here because the stem of the trail is three miles long. We spotted a lot
of lizards on the way up the stem. 🦎 Once you get there, the Needle towers are incredible. For me it felt like exploring an ancient dried up civilization, it was absurd. A part of the loop went through a massive cave leading into a system of slots canyons. The urge to boulder my way up the walls of the three-foot-wide passages was unexplainable. I made it about 10 or so feet up before deciding it was a bit dangerous. It seems there is SO much more to explore, on every part of the loop, so really hoping I get the chance to come back soon!

Great place to hike in Canyonlands National Park! I would highly recommend this. We started our hike at the Elephant Hill parking lot/trail head and backpacked in to the EC2 camp site. We camped there amongst some of the most beautiful scenery you will find. The next day we hiked to Druid Arch then up to Chestler Park then returned back to our vehicles. Take lots of water! Each person in our group packed 6-7 liters of water, which was just about right. Temps in the mid 80’s in the day. I wouldn’t want to go when it was any hotter.

This is where you want to go in Canyonlands. It's one of the coolest places I've been. You feel like you're on a different planet. It kind of reminded me of pod racing on tatooine. The Druid Arch hike is awesome and ends at an arch cooler than most of the arches on Arches NP.

Worthwhile stop and definitely worth the hike all the way to the top. It's a bit of a scramble at times so you need to use your hands but the view was very worth it. We also hiked to the grainery which was an easier time - it was interesting to see but the longer hike to the top of the butte was a trip highlight.

This is a filler hike, not as popular as the others in Island of Sky district but still a nice stroll. We only made it to the bottom of the butte and didn't head up because all the uphill hiking we did over the last few days but you can tell there is incredible views up there of the grassy hills and plains on one side and the canyons on the other.
Don't be lazy like us and make the effort.
But even if you don't go up to sit on the butte and see all the waves of the rock formation is just really nice especially since the trail isn't busy, to sit and enjoy in peacefulness.

The upper section of trail is fun...until a guy driving a dually tries to drive up the opposite direction. The lower section, outside the national park boundaries is very rough, especially around the potash ponds. Still a fun time and must do experience for those with high clearance vehicles.

This admission fee-based viewpoint is one of many jaw-dropping views you will experience in this area. The overlook can be accessed by using the small pull-off on the east side of Grand View Point Road. This parking area is very small and near a bend in the road, so be careful pulling out into traffic. This stunning viewpoint offers a panoramic perspective of the rugged Shafer Canyon and a great view of the Shafer Basin Road. However, you will not be able to see the Colorado River from this viewpoint, or the Shafer Canyon Overlook Trailhead, but it still is a stunning view. There are no Park facilities at this location.

My son and I drove across the country from NC is his Toyota FJ to visit this place and some others like Elephant Hill and boy were we not let down. We had such a great time camping, off roading, and roughing it, in this beautiful landscape! If you decide to go to this place make sure properly prepare. Do your online research, and do not take this place for granted. It is isolated more than you can imagine. We were there for 3 days and only saw 4 other people.

I personally loved this hike because of the super unique red and orange petroglyphs!! I didn't see too many others posting photos of them, as they are unmarked and easy to miss. They can be found near the cave spring. As for the rest of the trail, the 2 ladders were a fun surprise, although there is 1 tricky step right after you climb the first ladder that might make some nervous. 1 mile dirt road to trailhead very well maintained accessible for all vehicles. The trail took me about 40 minutes to complete. Highly recommended if you like cool petroglyphs.

This is an easy fun loop for kids as they get to climb 2 ladders and play find the trail markers game. More on that in a second.
Being an interpretive trail, there is a lot to read about the flora around the trail if you so choose. If not, the trail itself takes you under several overhangs with the preserved cowboy camp and the spring well being the two major items.
After the ladders, the trail goes over a rocky section. This us were the kids get to track down the trail markers to find your way out. These markers are stacked rocks spread out over the rocks.

It’s listed as an easy stroll which it is if you want to go out and back. If you want to do the loop it requires climbing 2 different ladders and jumping over a small rock fissure. I’m afraid of heights but managed it. I recommend going left to start the loop because you’ll see the old buildings and the cave spring before hitting a ladder. Plus you’ll go up the ladders, not down which seems less scary to me. Once up the ladders it’s a pretty easy hike across the slip rock with great views. The trail winds gently down and you don’t have to go down ladders. Along the path, you’ll wind in and out of caves, some with pictographs, which was super cool. We finished our day with this hike and it was perfect.
Stop at newspaper rock either on the way in or out. Sooooo many petroglyphs! About 20 steps from the parking area, almost zero effort for a nice reward. We stopped at 4:30 and it wasn’t crowded at all.

This is my personal favorite trail in the Moab area. Most of the trail is shaded by the surrounding cliffs or inside of caves, so the temperature here is usually cooler. The Cowboy campsite is also amazing to see.

This was a fun stop and gave us a chance to stretch our legs. Along the trail there were ladders to climb onto the slick rock above and provided an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding landscape of Needles Park. It was fun exploring how rugged the Cowboys and Indians had to be in order to survive in this harsh landscape, while the formations are magnificent, it is also an unforgiving land as well. It was fun to find that there were some ancient pictographs that have survived the passage of time and were in excellent condition. This trail has everything you could want in a hike. There was an old cowboy camp that you pass, signs labeling all the plant life, ancient cave drawings, and an incredible view at the top. It isn't a trail for people who want a casual hike, though. You have to climb two ladders and there is a bit of scrambling necessary if you want to get to the viewpoint.

The views here are nice and the hike is a good one, but it pales in comparison to the other hikes found within the Needles. An absolute must do and in the Moab area. This is a relatively short hike, just over a mile each way. The hike is relatively easy. The last section is a little tricky but if you just go slow, it’s no problem. It’s so fun to be able to walk up under the arch and see it from both sides. Easy hike with beautiful views! The trail is easy to follow. It has a steep spot where hikers can get bottlenecked. Most of the tougher part of the trail is slickrock. Wear good shoes with good grip. Not the most dog friendly trails but it's doable. Go check out Pinto Arch as well, it's worth the extra trek!

Wow. I enjoyed the Needles area more than the Island in the Sky area. I heard other people say the same thing. The drive into Needles is similar to a smaller Zion Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs and some Monument Valley all rolled into one. Great views and easy hiking trails. One of the best things was almost no people visit this side since it's about 50 miles for Moab but well worth the drive.

Beautiful formations especially at the end of the loop. The Newspaper Monument is an incredible reminder of life 2000 yrs ago. The visitor center is very nice with such sweet volunteers. Remote drive, fill up gas, bring water, food, hats, sun glasses, change of clothes... The hike from elephant hill towards chessler park is pretty grueling three miles long of rugged canyon, climbing up and down. If you think you're going to do that and back and also do the entire chessler park loop be prepared for a very long day unless you're an avid canyor and hiker. This trail was my favorite thing I did in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. The trail was a perfect combination of length and difficulty for those seeking great views and a little exercise without having to walk for hour or on difficult terrain. The views were absolutely spectacular, best in the park in my opinion.
The massive drops here are nearly vertical, the trail gets rather close to the edge in spots and there isn't a railing in sight, so this might not be great for kids, those with balance issues, or those with a fear of heights. And as you get towards the end there are sections that require stepping from one rock to another with nothing below you but the canyon floor (which having approached from the side and seeing what was beneath a person traversing the section, I thought better of trying myself), but even without continuing past this point the views were incredible.
If you had time to do only one thing in the park, this would be my suggestion. Highly recommended

The reward at the end of the hike out is huge - spectacular almost 360 views of canyons and mountains with shade spots under & behind rocks and Juniper trees. The Dead horse state park rim trail 5 mile hike was great. Now what really kicked me into a gear was the 5.3 mile Gooseberry Trail in Canyonlands National Park. By far one the steepest inclines I ever done, plain scary at times, it was so high!!
I started at 4pm, first a ran down all way to canyon and jogged uphill, barely made it ten minutes before sunset. Thanks God! The canyon itself and the White Rim Trail were unbelievable, and there something creepy down there, I can not describe it, you had to be there to feel it. Overall not a hike for faint hearted or people with any health challenges.

Visited here and did the Chesler Park / Joint Trail loop hike in early November. Heard from someone I met in Rocky Mountain National Park that he liked the Needles District better than the Grand Canyon and that the Chesler Park / Joint Trail hike was his favorite hike he could remember. I was on the fence about doing the before the recommendation, but the glowing review put me over the edge. Long story short, he might have been understating how amazing this place was.
The scenery in Chesler Park is absolutely breathtaking. The full loop hike was a strenuous, 11 mile hike over challenging and varied terrain, all while surrounded on all sides by some of the coolest rock formations you'll ever see. If forced to complain about something, I will say that the cairn stones are at times too inconspicuous (especially in the Western section of the hike), the trail is poorly marked along the joint trail section, and these issues are only exacerbated if you travel in a clockwise direction (my advice, do the loop in a counter-clockwise manner). But all in all, the only hikes I've ever been on that I'd even put in the same sentence as this one are The Narrows at Zion National Park and Huangshan in Anhui, China.
Chesler Park blew everything I saw in Arches or the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands out of the water, and that isn't a slight on them, rather; the most glowing endorsement I could give for Chesler Park. Even if you aren't in good enough shape to do the full hike, take the drive down the bumpy dirt road and walk to the viewpoint overlooking Chesler Park. This is as "must-see" an attraction as I could think of. If you only have time to see one thing while in the Moab area, this should be it. You won't be disappointed

Amazing hike, the scenery is otherworldly. It is a strenuous hike with the tough section before the view point and at the beginning. The middle section is flat ish. there is limited shade in the middle section. Highly recommend poles and lots of water. The road to the trailhead is dirt and narrow, basically one lane. We went to the view point and were not disappointed. Hands down one of the best hikes we have done. Clocks in around 5.7 miles, we are slow hikers so took us around 4 hours. We started at 9:45 and still spots in the lot on a weekday in May.

Here is really your first viewing point inside the actual park boundaries, but it does prepare you for the wonderful sights you are about to see. We chose Islands In The Sky district of Canyonlands today. It took us 45 mins from Moab to enter the park and we spent 2 hours touring and picnicking. Small visitors center has loads of info and a small gift shop. Bring your own food and drinks. Lots of restrooms and picnic areas scattered in the park. Highly recommend. Several short hikes to see the sights, but LOTS to see from the car. Absolutely stunning landscapes. A must see!!!

Orange Cliffs Overlook is located almost at the south end of the Grand View Point Road in the Island In The Sky District of the Canyonlands National Park near Moab in the State of Utah.
After parking your vehicle (there is a limited number of spaces, around 8) it is an easy 0.1-mile out-and-back trail that leads to the stunning panoramic view of the Orange Cliffs. It is a very short out-and-back walk along a dirt trail that gradually leads downhill to the edge of the canyon. You can go up to the left or the right. Trails are on both sides. Follow the blue trail tracks ( left side) They're a little hard to find immediately, but it's likely someone else will be there so follow them!!
Do not wear flip flops! You have to do an easy climb to get to the tracks and the drawings. My seven year old did the hike with no issues. My 6' 265lb self did the climb completely terrified, but it was worth it!! I watched probably 4/5 year olds go up before us and back down after us all wearing flop flops!! We saw lizards. You can do this!!

My favourite trail in the Island in the Sky District. At the end of trail, we explored the right side and after making the way through narrow spaces between rocks and plants, a majestic view of the Monument Basin presented itself. While an easier way to see the Monument Basin is visiting the 'unofficial overlook' of the Grand View Point Overlook Trail beside the parking lot (not the actual Grand View Point Overlook that requires a short hike), the perspective from the White Rim Overlook is far more breath-taking in my opinion. Note that parking of the White Rim Overlook Trail is very limited. We arrived some time after 1pm on Thanksgiving day but were fortunately enough to use the last available spot. A lot of cars parked on the sides when we returned.

Probably a set of views among the most breath-taking we have enjoyed, with each viewpoint worth 300+ million years of geological history. This overlook offers a much larger field of view than Grand View Point - after a short trail.

Highly recommend! This isnt the funnest hike in the summer heat of 100°F but the views and anticipation of getting to the Arch and solitude hiking experience make it worth it!
My experience in late August:
- The hike was unpleasant due to the ~6 miles of sandy wash, the exposure to the sun and heat for most of the hike and the mental effort required to follow the cairns and/or the alltrails map and not get too far off track. However, I couldve mitigated the heat if I started earlier.
- I started way later than initially planned, at 10:30am instead of 5:30am but I was still able to complete the hike in about 5.5 hours. There were several open parking spots when I arrived later in the morning.
- I passed about four groups on the elephant trail from the carpark (the first ~2 miles) coming in but never saw anyone else after that. Hence, I had the Arch all to myself!
- I had 5 liters of water and snacks and drank 3 liters. I did get some cloud coverage for the last 2.5 miles of the hike and the wind picked up.

It's an easy hike. 6-7 hours. I went in early February and the weather was perfect. When you see an old tree log blocking your way it means you're not supposed to go that way. You'll see it several times. If you're almost there but are inside a canyon and can't go further you went off the correct trail and need to go back and climb on top of the left side. This is an amazing hike with outstanding scenery and views. Druid Arch is stunning and worth effort, in my opinion. It’s not an easy hike because of distance and some inclines. The trail starts off rocky and then goes to a sandy wash. You know you’re almost there (2.0 mile stretch) when you start getting into rocks again, the trail is marked well by cairns. We did not find the chains but there is a spot that could definitely use them. The hike wasn’t too rough but we tackled it in 65° weather. You really need hiking shoes since some areas are straight up rock. There isn’t any drinking water on the trail and the trail parking lot feeds into a lot of other hikes so may be difficult to find parking at times. Undoubtedly this arch is the best in Utah! Definitely worth spending the day!

Smallish lot, though nowhere nearly as crowded as the Mesa Arch lot. From here, you can hike a short distance to Aztec Butte; if you're up for it, I recommend scaling it, as well. Atop the butte there's a trail that loops around the perimeter, and the northeastern end (the opposite side from the trail up) affords pretty cool views of the canyon below.
There's also the granary along the northern face of the smaller butte along this trail. It's pretty wild to think how these structures have stood for 8-900 years. Overall, definitely a worthwhile stop.

There are great views from the top and the ruins are also interesting. I did the one to the right first and the trail following the cairns was sometimes a bit misleading as there was an easier way then going straight to each. There was a part that was pretty steep and I am glad my shoes have good traction so I was able to scramble up. Coming down, I sat down and slowly scoot on my butt which makes it easier. The one on the left was fairly easy hike.

Of all the easy hikes of arches, Zion, valley of fire this one was the most fun to do.
95% is bare rock with excellent grip with the right shoes.

We didn't have a ton of time so we picked this short and easy trail. It was a very hot day and water was definitely needed as there is no shade. Keep your eyes up to follow the rock stacks and you'll enjoy four beautiful view points on this fairly easy hike.

Perfect trail at the end of the road. Just the right length, nothing hard. Amazing views. Doesn't get you closer to the "needles" themselves, but you can see them in the distance. Hard to take in the stunning beauty. A few hours maximum to complete with a few stops for epic pictures along the way. This is for those non-hard-core hikers for sure, but still stunning. No way to really get lost on this trail though some parts are not marked perfectly. I hiked the lollipop loop counterclockwise (the recommended way) and suggest you do too.

I really enjoyed this hike. You can border the canyons and see the view from both sides. My only concern is that the 4th viewpoint is easy to miss and hard to go back on track, can get lost easily and not find the last part of the loop. Be aware of the stone piles that can be misleading.

This is a peaceful and amazing place to take in. Though I haven't been to the Grand Canyon yet, others say it reminds them of it. The 5 mile hike to get there from the parking area provided some beautiful scenery along the way and was well marked by large cairns so trail was pretty easy to follow even in the snow. Start by heading to the left from the parking area and then downwards into the canyon. When you get to the dirt road for ATVs, cross it and continue on the hiking trail. Following the road around to the right will add a lot of unnecessary distance to the hike.

Great hike, one of the best in Moab area... well marked with rock carins but still a little bit of climbing, and lots of nice scenery - up close views of the needles & then of course river - but the best thing to me was the peace & quite. Road in was fine… some washboards and a few sand sections but I saw an AWD Chevy and it made it.
Great hike to the great gallery and the other sections. Once you’ve descended the cairns aren’t easy seen for long stretches but all you really need to do is to follow the wash.

The hike goes past Dino tracks at the start then descends 750feet into the canyon . Dunes with wildlife are on both sides along with great views. Trail is well marked. 4 hours is just enough for lots of pics but stay a little longer

Sublime hike. Much easier than people it make to look and sound. We took around 4 hours round trip and honestly it was not hard, so don't listen to people saying it's the hardest hike ever. If you are in a good shape it's easy despite of all sand etc.
Camped overnight at one of the beautiful spots overlooking the canyon and did an evening hike. We did it in July and it was not that hot, a lot of the trail is in the shade of the canyon.
Human presence in Horseshoe Canyon has been dated as far back as 9000-7000 B.C., when Paleo-Indians hunted large mammals such as mastodons and mammoths across the southwest. Later inhabitants included the Desert Archaic culture, the Fremont culture, and Ancestral Puebloans. Occupation by the Fremont and Ancestral Puebloans was relatively brief; it is believed that the canyon was abandoned by Native American peoples by 1300 A.D.
The Great Gallery is one of the largest and best preserved collections of Barrier Canyon Style rock art. The gallery was a product of the Desert Archaic culture, a nomadic group of hunter-gatherers predating the Fremont and Ancestral Puebloans. The panel itself measures about 200 feet (61 m) long and 15 feet (4.6 m) high. The panel contains about 20 life-sized anthropomorphic images, the largest of which measures over 7 feet (2.1 m) tall.

It's a long hike in over loose sand for the most part. Several miles of it can be taxing. Probably a no-go if you have a medical condition that would make it dangerous with the heat and the "two steps forward, one step back" hiking over the sand. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person... 3 if you can swing it.
Being a hard, long, hot trail there are opportunities for solitude and the mental space to feel the canyon as you wander up. I stopped in the quiet places between loud conversations to imagine what it was to live in the place somewhere between 4000-8000 years ago. Then there were the ancient stories on the walls. It's thought that the rock art was a visual memory cue for ancient story tellers stories the details of which were part of an oral tradition long lost in the passage of time. We're left to imagine and speculate, which seemed to be a lot of fun for most visitors. The Great Gallery blew me away. The ancient voices speaking in both mysterious and very human ways through those haunting figures brought me to - for lack of a better word - and altered state of consciousness. (I was just drinking water and eating GORP if you're wondering if I was "enhancing" the experience chemically). Very much a natural high and the buzz lasted long past hiking back to the trailhead.

Well worth the hike! 900 foot elevation drop over slick rock trail (well marked) into the canyon. Then 4 mile round trip to the Gallery, unfortunately almost all in soft sand so it is longer than the distance appears. The canyon is truly spectacular, and the prehistoric rock art is worth the trip. However it is not the best pictographs in all the southwest as some books said. Took us about 5 hours total, and was in later February so cool. Carry extra water during the summer. And the climb out is strenuous but very do-able by all.
