Sasso del Ferro is a 1062-meter mountain located east of Laveno, offering stunning views of Lake Maggiore. Visitors can reach the summit via a 16-minute cable car ride through Val Cuvia to the Poggia Sant'Elsa viewpoint. From there, one can enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the Alps and nearby mini-lakes Varese, Monate, and Comabbio.
Small cable car to the top just enough room for 2 with great views on a clear day

(Translated by Google) Nice panoramic point... The summit of this wooded mountain of 1062 meters high can be reached, as well as via the hiking trails that climb up its slopes from the surrounding villages, with a short walk of 10/20 minutes (depending on the pace ) in the shaded forest starting from the terminus of the cable car that goes up from Laveno Mombello (10 euros return). With suitable shoes, it is not difficult and worth it if you love nature and the views it offers. (Original) Bel punto panoramico... Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso

Mentioned on

Convent
Sights & Landmarks
Santa Caterina del Sasso is a 14th-century Catholic monastery situated above Lake Maggiore. Accessible by stairs, an elevator, or boat, this hermitage offers spectacular views of the lake. Legend has it that the hermitage was founded when a local merchant prayed to Saint Caterina during a storm in 1170. The area also offers hiking trails and mountain resorts such as Sasso del Ferro with its old cableway providing stunning panoramic views.
The most beautiful spot in lake Maggiore. It takes a bit of time to get there from stressa but it's so incredible that it certainly justified the effort. Plenty of parking. Lift to go up and down lake level. The ferry boat is below. Toilets. Ticket for the hermit pays off and it is a living religious place that has been growing over the centuries
Georginamgo — Google review
The visit of santa Caterina was a bit underwhelming for me, but with great views. Boat tickets were fairly cheap circa 7€ adult and 5€ senior. The boat trip was 5-10 minutes and the boats depart pretty often with clearly stated times. Unfortunately we forgot to establish our returning time and closely missed our trip back to Stresa and there was a lunch break and we had to wait for the next boat for 2 hours. Overall, great, just plan when you want to board.
Michal Ž — Google review
Not worth the 5€ honestly. There's nothing to see except the beautiful panorama which should be free anyway. If you want to take the elevator back up and not do the 100 stairs, you need to pay extra and if you arrived at the elevator, since the machine that sells the tickets is broken, you have to go back to the church and buy from the lady in the shop. This really annoyed us, so we took the stairs.
Anca A — Google review
We drove there. They have a huge free parking. You have 200 something stone stairs to the monastery . Very well maintained and for people with disabilities there Is also an elevator available for a small fee. The place it's worth a visit for the location and the efforts of building and maintaining such a monastery built and carved in stone.
Sergiu A — Google review
Amazing place to visit. Enjoy the church and the story. There is an elevator to go up and down if you wish to use it. Only for 1 EUR.
Yuni S — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking place, remember to wear your track shoes unless you prefer to take the lift down.
Christina C — Google review
It was a nice sightseeing place, photogenic. You can also opt to take the evaluator up and down instead of taking the stairs.

Art museum
Nestled in the charming hamlet of Cerro, the International Museum of Ceramic Design is a delightful gem that showcases an impressive collection of ceramic art. Established in the 1970s and owned by the municipality of Laveno Mombello, this museum offers visitors a unique glimpse into the world of ceramics. The highlight is undoubtedly its stunning exhibition dedicated to Antonia Campi, which captivates with its beauty and significance.
The staffs are very friendly and helpful. This museum has a beautiful view to the lake and there are variety of ceramic collection. But the road which is from the station to the museum is for car only. Walking on thay road is a bit dangerous.

Lovely experience in this ceramics museum. The young lady that greets you had so much information for us and was so patient, I really loved her dedication. Even though it was closing hour, she waited for us to finish and even let us see the gardens. I am passionate for ceramics, so I can never have enough of the styles and patterns that exist out there, especially in Italy. The temporary exhibition was also unique and very modern in my opinion. I wish I could have found more things to take as souvenir back home. Go see it!

(Translated by Google) Free visit to the ceramics exhibition. The place is worth it but it is crowded with swallows (they are cute) that make a mess, it is dangerous to move around the corridors, on the stairs and sometimes in the rooms due to the lack of civic sense of the visitors who leave the doors open. The setting up of a net should be considered. (Original) Visita gratuita alla mostra di ceramiche. Da valutare l'allestimento di una rete.

Presepe Sommerso

Sights & Landmarks
Monuments & Statues
The Presepe Sommerso in Laveno is a unique and exceptional attraction, especially enchanting to visit in the evening on a calm day. While there are numerous Christmas attractions around the world, this submerged nativity scene stands out as something truly magical and special. The dedication of the volunteers who bring it to life each year adds to its wonder. Both new and old volunteers work tirelessly to enhance the experience for visitors who come from all over the world during the Christmas period.

Lungolago

Park
Sights & Landmarks
Piers & Boardwalks
Lungolago park is a stunning location for leisurely strolls by the lake. The adjacent road is not heavily trafficked, ensuring a peaceful ambiance. Visitors can enjoy a constant pleasant breeze and admire the truly magnificent panorama. The friendly operators of various bars add to the overall positive experience. With today's hot weather, it is recommended to find a shaded table, indulge in a large ice cream cup, and savor a refreshing drink.
If you get the opportunity to be in the Lago Maggorie area an hour north of Milano I would recommend that you visit the lake side town of Laveno and take a stroll along Lungolago. You can reach Laveno by car, train from Milano or ferry boat. If you drive you can park behind the train station on the lake (near the playground or volleyball court) as you walk towards the lake you will see the beginning of the walking path (Lungolago). If you follow the path past the ferry stop toward the church you will pass many nice little shops to grab a gelato, espresso, pastries, art galleries appetizers and many great restaurants. (See my other reviews). You can even rent a motor boat for a few hours to see the lake. The town recently restored a portion of Lungolago making it a very lovely place to take a walk, take pictures and grab something to eat and drink. If you are anywhere near the area, I really encourage you to visit Laveno and enjoy a walk along Lungolago.

Museum of Anthropocene Technology

Museum
The Museum of Anthropocene Technology offers a captivating and thought-provoking experience for visitors. Families can enjoy a visit to this museum, where they can explore the impact of humans on the climate. The owner, who kindly gave a tour to one family, sparked interesting reflections on this topic. The exhibition at the museum is well-organized and presents a delightful blend of art and history.
Found the museum of anthropocene technology while looking for an activity on a rainy day at Lago Maggiore. It turned out to be one of the greatest museums I have ever visited. Frank gave us a private tour of the museum, which not only contains magnificent objects, but is also an architectural gem. Frank likes the interaction with his visitors and asks for their opinion which made the visit an interesting, entertaining and multi-layered experience. Its founder, Frank Raes, offers visitors a path of dialogue between art and science, stimulating them to take on a constantly critical and questioning attitude, as befits the scholar of both the humanistic and natural disciplines. An invitation, the one I address to future visitors, to consciously move along that labile border that separates irony and reality within the Anthropocene Museum. Villa De Angeli Frua

Historical landmark
Nestled in the charming town of Laveno, Villa De Angeli Frua stands as a testament to the region's rich history and architectural beauty. Constructed in the mid-1700s by the Tinelli family, this monumental building was later acquired by Senator Ernesto De Angeli in 1896. The villa features an impressive U-shaped design that echoes traditional farmhouses and is surrounded by a picturesque park, making it a delightful spot for visitors.

The U-shaped plan follows the layout of the previous farmhouses. Surrounded by a beautiful park, it is now municipal property and home to the Municipality of Laveno Mombello and the Library. (Translated by Google) Two entrances, one from the lake and one from Piazza Fontana. While the front towards the historic center is linear, also incorporating other pre-existing buildings, the façade towards the lake was conceived as a scenographic setting with a certain impact. It is no coincidence that the Villa was used from the beginning by the wealthy Tinelli family as a representative office. The main front facing the lake is made up of a rusticated part and three entrance arches surmounted by a large rectangular balcony. From the balcony overlooking Piazza Fontana, Garibaldi made his speech to the population of Laveno in 1862. The Villa underwent restoration in 1997 following which the municipal offices and the civic library were installed there.

Lovely location for lunch. We had risotto and shared the fritto. The food was excellent. Our dog was welcome and enjoyed the food too😄

Great restaurant - with incredible views of the lake! All our dishes were so tasty and had lots of flavour. Loved the steamed mussels, so simple but so delicious. Staff were also great and friendly.
Nikki P — Google review
We visited the restaurant for dinner a week ago, during our stay on Lago Maggiore. The day before we had passed by during the day and we liked the atmosphere and the view of the lake. Unfortunately, however, our expectations for a pleasant evening were not met. The starters and the two main fish portions were not flavoured at all, the duck breast was tough, the ribeye steak was ok. Our biggest disappointment was at the end, when they included in our bill two additional main courses that we had not ordered at all, i.e. they overcharged us €40. My advice is - do not have high expectations on the food and be careful when paying the bill.

The waiters were really nice and the food was delicious. Best tiramisu and nutty chocolate cake we've ever tasted!
Dalma S — Google review
Many empty tables. We were asked to wait for thirty minutes. We were told we cannot reserve. We had an aperitif to bridge the time. Then, even though seven two-person tables in the restaurant were empty for the time we were here — they kept telling us no. We were talking Italian. I don't understand what they want, but obviously not paying customers. Very weird service that doesn't care about people who are literally sitting there at a table outside staring at empty tables inside. It's really absurd, but unfortunately consistent with the other bad reviews this place has got.

Unfortunately, the service was awful during our visit. I tried to book a table and even asked for one directly, but despite seeing several empty tables, they never let me book or be seated. There was no explanation—despite the place being visibly empty and new people arriving. I would understand if the restaurant were full, or if all the tables were reserved, but the staff simply chose to ignore us. To make matters worse, for some reason I can’t understand, they don’t serve food outside either. A complete waste of time.

(Translated by Google) Very nice location with lake view, we had dinner there on the evening of August 15th, as an appetizer (charcuterie and cheese platter, 5 slices of salami, 2 of Brie and two of taleggio, then let's say that they pamper it with a small bowl of honey and a small bowl of jam 😅 ) a little sparse, the dry lasagne, ravioli with taleggio cheese, honey and walnuts (decent €12 6 ravioli) I appreciated the chef's gamble 😅 the fried calamari a dish that costs you €17 🙄 taking into account that the raw material will be defrosted so I can't justify the cost of this dish, the staff was very kind and the owner showed me the menu before booking so it was our choice to go there 😊 However, for the proposal on paper which offered the quality/price ratio for me it is a 6 out of 10. The lake will be the justification for the costs 😊 (Original) Location molto carina con vista lago , ci abbiamo cenato per la serata del 15 agosto , come antipasto ( tagliere di salumi e formaggi 5fettine di salame 2 di Brie e due di taleggio poi diciamo che lo impegnano con una ciotolina di miele e una di marmellata 😅 ) un po scarno , le lasagne asciuttine, ravioli con taleggio miele e noci ( discreto 12 € 6 ravioli ) ho apprezzato l'azzardo dello chef 😅 il fritto di calamari un piatto che ti costa 17€ 🙄 tenendo conto che la materia prima sarà decongelato quindi non riesco a giustificare il costo di questo piatto , il personale molto gentile e la titolare mi ha mostrato il menù prima di prenotare quindi nostra scelta andarci 😊 Però per la proposta su carta che offriva il rapporto qualità/prezzo per me è un 6 su 10 . Il Sorpasso Wine Bar in the Hotel de Charme complex is one of the jewels of Laveno Italy. This is the perfect place to grab an amazing bottle of wine and some fantastic appetizer plates for a light lunch or catch the sunset with friends outside on the patio overlooking the sailboats in the port of Laveno next to the art gallery. The other option is to take away to eat on your boat in the Laveno port. The locally sourced cheese 🧀 and cured meat 🍖 plates are really a treat. The dips for the cheese are a mouth watering creative combination of tastes. If you are a little more hungry the panini and carpaccio are a great choice.
Steve W — Google review
It was a real surprise for us to order an aperitif at aperitif time and they bring you almost nothing to eat. For 5 people they brought us 5 counted olives, few peanuts and 5 tarralini, the same quantity they gave to 2 people for a price of a wine glass each 8 euros and even 12. They said this is it. If they had brought some slices of prosciutto or cheese we would have ordered more. We will not return, there are plenty of places for good aperitif, for example at Ispra San Martino!

A fantastic dining experience in a beautiful outdoor setting. The food at Ristorante Via Roma is outstanding — the cuttlefish ink pasta with vongole was rich, perfectly balanced, and among the best I’ve ever tasted. The vitello tonnato was equally excellent: tender, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Service was warm, friendly and efficient, adding to the relaxed yet refined atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re in Intra and looking for top-quality Italian cuisine in a charming location.

When the sun shines bright and temperatures rise, nothing beats a scoop of ice cream, especially when you're on an adventure with kids! La Fredda Tentazione Gelateria is a must-visit spot that boasts an impressive selection of gelato flavors to satisfy every palate. The quality of their gelato is top-notch, and while the small size is quite generous, many recommend opting for it over the medium option since they seem quite similar in portion.
High quality of gelato. Large variety of flavors. Prices (dated on summer 2023) are: - 3€ for small one - 3.5€ for medium one Our feeling is that there is no much difference between the medium and the small. We recommend to order the small one which is big enough anyway. Last but not least, in the past they used to give a cookie with the ice cream, now no more. Too bad. I would suggest to reconsider it.

Serra Boutique Villa and Spa, @villaserradilago

Mentioned on

Holiday apartment rental
Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Lake Maggiore, Serra Boutique Villa and Spa offers a unique blend of relaxation and adventure. This charming villa is perfect for families or groups seeking a tranquil escape from the bustling seaside crowds. With easy access to both the serene beach and lush forest trails, guests can enjoy stunning views from every corner, including the breathtaking roof terrace.
We chose Serra boutique villa and spa for the long week- end on our way from Liguria back home. We are two families with 4 kids. We needed a place to fit us all, quiet but not too remote, away from the heat and the crowds of the seaside. This house is new on the market and there were no reviews, we had to take a risk -and were rewarded! The place is stunning: modern amenities, very clean and comfortable, bedrooms nicely fitted out, all with access to lawns/ terrace, lake views from all bedrooms and two bathrooms as well. Living room and open kitchen have sliding doors to a patio with a bbq and direct access to the park. Kids loved verandas and terraces on different levels and the whirlpool. Local beach is small but nice, with bars and restaurants on the lake promenade, and can be reached on foot in 10 minites if you like walking. Very conveniently, there is a one-stop shop just below the house. They speak French and have one of the best prosciuttos and mozzarella di buffala that we tried. A combination one can rarely find: closeness to nature, quiteness, stunning views, and proximity to amenities and the beach. The village of Ghiffa is just over 3 km from the lake's major town Verbania with shops and restaurants and has direct connection by boat with Stresa and the famous islands of the Borromeo gulf. We rented a private boat for a day on the lake right from a hotel by the beach
Ivan G — Google review
Our vacation on Lake Maggiore at Villa Serra di Lago was one of the best in our well-travelled lives. The location of the house is perfect! On one hand, the access to the beach on the lake shore is within easy reach, and on the other, the location of the house on the edge of the forest provides privacy and excellent walking. The views from the windows of the villa and the roof terrace are simply stunning. Using the sauna and jacuzzi with the views over the lake after a day of activities was our highlight of the holiday. Highly recommended!

A lovely little restaurant, tucked away just off the lake. The host was welcoming and we were given a table looking at the lake which was perfect. The pasta was absolutely gorgeous. We had an incredible dinner in this restaurant which was a recommendation from some locals. The owner is the chef itself and is truly passionate about what he does! We ate main courses with a fish from a local lake (Maggiore). As well we had a cheese plate testing with each cheese being detailed by the chef itself (origins, taste, ingredients and etc.). Unfortunately, we had no spot available in our belly for the dessert since everything we ate and drank was simply delicious! P. S. Great view of the lake. The menu found at the table with their QR code has gluten-free and dairy-free labels. No gluten free pasta but they do have GF pizza which comes out in its own individual tin, which is good because then it’s not sitting on the same stone or touching the regular pizza. Milan Linate Airport is the city's second airport, catering to short-haul and domestic flights. It offers convenient transportation options such as bus connections to the city center and Stazione Centrale. The airport provides a pleasant travel experience with spacious, clean, and well-organized facilities. Notably, it has introduced innovative face boarding for seamless boarding processes.
Good things do come in small packages. Entry into and leaving airport effortless. Good range of shops including Armani, ample food court. Spotlessly clean toilets. Very close to Moxy Hotel. There are no busy queues for taxi.

This Milan Airport (LIN) was very convenient if you plan to stay close to the Metropolitan Downtown Shopping area or close to the Buenos Aires Shopping district. It is smaller than Malpansa (MXP), which is also further away from the Metro area. Baggage pick-up area can be a little confusing so be sure to look for your correct flight carousel before discovering you were standing in the wrong area the whole time! Also, have comfortable walking shoes on as parking is across the street and multiple levels. Cool airport overall!

While disembarking was very quick, the mandatory route that forces passengers to walk through the shopping area before boarding isn’t very pleasant. I understand it might increase shopping rates, but most of the stores were empty anyway. It would be much better if we could reach the gate faster without that unnecessary detour.

Well designed airport. You don't have to walk much to get to the boarding gates, and security checks are pretty quick. I would give 5 stars if they had water fountains. By the way the boarder control is much quicker when done by humans rather than automatic machines, those machines are definitely not an improvement right now.

The airport interior is nice and quiet, providing a pleasant atmosphere. However, the boarding process was catastrophic and poorly managed

Nearly flawless urban airport. Excellent rail access to the city center on the 4, which terminates at the airport. Modern, clean, well-lit, and well-maintained. Staffed by highly professional and courteous personnel, and with modern baggage scanners and policies that allow you to keep most of your items inside your carry-on. Some airports still require you to take electronics/fluids out of your bag for no apparent reason, but not Milan Linate. Incredibly efficient while maintaining public safety. Selection of restaurants and cafes available both inside and outside security, and there are many water fountains throughout the terminal. One nit is that sensors in the bathrooms seem to be overly sensitive, causing toilets to flush almost continuously during use. Nevertheless a model airport. Every airport in the world could learn a thing or two from their staff and management.

Milano Malpensa Airport

International airport
Airport
Milan Malpensa Airport is one of the world's oldest aviation sites, serving international and domestic flights. Located in the financial and fashion center of Milan, it offers a gateway to the region's developed wine market and beautiful natural landscapes. The airport boasts efficient and modern facilities, with spacious terminals and helpful staff making for a seamless travel experience. Travelers can enjoy diverse dining and shopping options while waiting for their flights, as well as convenient transportation links to the city center.
Milano Malpensa Airport is one of the busiest airports in Italy, serving as a major hub for international travelers. With its modern facilities and extensive flight connections, it caters to millions of passengers each year. The airport is located approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Milan, making it easily accessible by various modes of transportation. Travelers can enjoy a range of amenities, including shopping, dining, and lounges, ensuring a comfortable experience before their flights.

I arrived at Terminal 2 of Malpensa Airport and immediately noticed how exceptionally clean it was. There’s a long moving walkway that takes you toward the exit, followed by stairs or an elevator to reach outside. The connection to Milano Centrale is very easy, the buses are parked right outside the terminal. Overall, it’s a beautiful airport, though I found the departure area less functional. While waiting for your gate to be announced, you sit outside the duty-free zone to avoid walking too far from your gate. This creates a crowd near the entrance without enough seating, which limits shopping time. Still, I was generally pleased with my experience.

Milan Linate Airport (LIN) is a relatively small and manageable airport, making it a good option for travelers who prefer a more straightforward experience. One of its key advantages is its size; it's difficult to get lost, and the layout is organized enough to navigate without stress. This is particularly appealing for those who dread the sprawling, often confusing terminals of larger international hubs. However, the airport's limited size also comes with a significant drawback: a restricted selection of shops, restaurants, and cafes. The variety is quite limited, and the quality of the food and beverage options is not particularly impressive. This can be a letdown for travelers hoping to enjoy a high-quality meal or a wider range of retail therapy before their flight. Furthermore, the general condition of the airport is underwhelming. For a city that is a global fashion capital, one might expect a more modern and aesthetically pleasing gateway. The facilities feel dated and are in need of modernization and renovation. The lack of contemporary design and amenities is a noticeable contrast to Milan's reputation for style and innovation. While functional, the airport doesn't provide an impressive or memorable experience, and a significant refresh would greatly enhance its appeal. In summary, Milan Linate is a practical, no-frills airport that excels in its ease of navigation. However, it falls short in its limited dining and shopping options, and its overall dated appearance. It serves its purpose, but travelers seeking a more modern, varied, or high-end airport experience may be disappointed.

Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) provides a refreshingly smooth travel experience. The entire facility was notably clean and well-maintained, creating a pleasant environment from arrival to departure. A highlight of the experience was the ease of navigation. Finding the correct gates was straightforward, thanks to clear and intuitive signage throughout the terminals, which significantly reduced pre-flight stress. Furthermore, the staff members were exceptionally friendly and helpful, offering polite assistance whenever needed and making the overall transit process very welcoming. MXP is definitely an easy and efficient airport to travel through.

Clean and beautiful airport . It’s nice place when one is traveling to India . Delicious food all around and lot of designer shops that one can’t find in USA . People are not that friendly and it’s hard to be friendly or sociable like in USA . People are more reserved and pay attention to the way you dress and look .

I have never seen such a bad country. We were 40 people departing at 2pm for the 8:10pm flight. But the traffic jam was terrible, the car could not move, although we tried to get off the car and ask to give way to go in another direction, but the traffic was still jammed. We had to get off the car and transfer to the train, but when we arrived at the train station, it suddenly stopped working because they said the entire staff was on strike. We had to drag our luggage and take the airport bus. The bus driver said that no one was allowed to bring luggage on the bus, including carry-on luggage. My colleague had to put his LV suitcase under the trunk of the car and it was eventually stolen. We tried to move as fast as possible while the flight was announced to be delayed until 10:20pm. And when we arrived at the airport at 9pm, the staff informed us that the check-in counter had just closed 10 minutes ago. We tried to ask them to open the counter but it took 20 minutes for 2 people to come out and say no. All had to buy 40 completely new tickets to return to Vietnam. The special thing on the new flight was VNA, We were also delayed by 1.00 more hours, However, the reason for the delay was because a passenger had trouble with transit procedures. Why is there such a difference? You have no humanity! A civilized country But theft, serious traffic congestion, indifferent staff. So disappointed with this country!

Melbourne Airport Terminal 1, primarily serving Qantas and Jetstar flights, has its strengths and weaknesses. **Strengths:** 1. **Accessibility:** The terminal is well-connected to public transport, making it easy for travelers to reach and depart from the airport. 2. **Amenities:** There are various shops, cafes, and restaurants that cater to different tastes and preferences. 3. **Check-In Process:** The check-in process is generally efficient, with self-service kiosks available for quicker processing. **Weaknesses:** 1. **Space and Crowding:** The terminal can feel cramped, especially during peak travel times, leading to long lines and a less pleasant experience. 2. **Limited Seating:** Seating areas can be insufficient, with travelers often struggling to find a comfortable spot to wait for their flights. 3. **Wi-Fi Connectivity:** While free Wi-Fi is available, the connection can be slow and unreliable, which is frustrating for travelers needing to work or stay connected. Overall, while Melbourne Airport Terminal 1 offers essential services and amenities, improvements in space management and connectivity could enhance the travel experience significantly.

I was really disappointed with my experience at Malpensa Airport. First off, having to pay €2 just to borrow a trolley feels unreasonable. Plus, there's an added €1 fee to weigh your luggage, and it’s only cash! This setup is quite inconvenient and feels very unfriendly to travelers. I really expected better from such a major airport. They need to rethink these policies to make it more user-friendly. I hope they improve things for future travelers!
