Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is a mountainous Greek paradise with lush gorges, charming whitewashed villages, and ancient ruins. Known for its consistent winds, especially during summer, it offers over 240 days of strong winds annually. Naxos Kitesurf Club provides an unspoiled kitesurfing haven with a long sandy beach and turquoise waters.
Came here on holiday for four nights with my partner and really enjoyed it. Stayed at Plaka Beach We hired a car (highly recommended), and followed the suggestions of the hotel to visit Alkyo Beach and then Agiassos Beach for a swim and lunch under the trees overlooking the water. A visit to the former capital of Chalkio was great, and nearby Filoti. The rental car company delivers the car empty of fuel, and you are meant to return the car empty. That’s a bit of a con, how much fuel will you need? Not much as it turned out, a lot less than we put in anyway. Agreat island to visit. If you like my review, please “like” it so others can benefit. Please feel free to ask me any questions.

Beautiful island… beaches and mountains… delicious food and warm people! It’s one of those places you never wanna leave and if you leave, you definitely want to go back again!

The island is so beautiful Top experience It’s worth it If you are an explorer then this island is for you

Naxos Island is one of the places you must visit, a beautiful place with friendly local people and delicious food. My 6 days in Naxos Island and really enjoyed my holiday in October🥰🧿
Jarwati P — Google review
I love this island, is my favorite among the Cyclades so far, naturally beautiful but its greatest asset is its wonderful, kind people
Maria L — Google review
Beautiful island with beautiful beaches and clear water. For help everyone can ask me where to stay and eat. Please avoid to rent a car if you live in centre because they don't have parking space. When you need just go and rent a car. Please remember that the car must be dry inside because they will charge you 200 euro. But is great place for families and couples.
Valentin V — Google review
If you are looking for amazing beaches, good food and a decent Aegean/Cycladic island with lots of deceivers.. look no further!
Emmanouil M — Google review
Huge island with no infrastructure to cope with so many people and vehicles, especially during August. Horrible roads, not enough signs , locals with dead wish, driving reckless and no sign of police. Urban sprawl and debris in the open fields complete the scenery. Pity, cause the island could be a paradise with some effort.

Naxos, the largest of the Cyclades islands, is a treasure trove of history and natural beauty. The island boasts seven museums showcasing artifacts from various periods, including the Archaeological Museum with exhibits dating back to the Neolithic period. Visitors can explore ancient ruins like the doorlike remains of the Temple of Apollo and wander through Chora's Venetian castle.
Beautiful/ Majestic structure. The wind felt amazing, after being under the sun for so long, but hard to use a selfie stick 😆. It is a must spot to take pictures and learn about Greek history.
Marco P — Google review
Free entrance to this beautiful monument placed just close to the main city. A lot of people during sunset but manageable. It is a amall hike to get to the top, but most should be able to do it.
Emil N — Google review
A beautiful Portara on Naxos, located out on a small rocky islet connected to the mainland by a easy walkable path. Beautiful view looking back at the town and port. I wanted to make it out for sunset, but it was cloudy. A definite must do when in Naxos.
Ronnie A — Google review
Beautiful site. Best seen during the day if you want to avoid crowds. However, the sunset there is stunning if you’re happy to share the space with a large crowd 👌 the site is free which is great and is literal only a few minutes from the port and a plethora of restaurants and the Venetian castle which is also stunning
Rosalie H — Google review
Beautiful temple remains, look absolutely stunning lit up at night (and you miss the crowds). Nice manageable steps and path, though it gets a bit slippery in the rain. Great views back into the town as well.
Claudia S — Google review
If you’re in Naxos, this is definitely a must-visit. The view from the temple is absolutely mesmerizing—worth every step. The whole visit doesn’t take more than 15 minutes, but the breathtaking scenery makes it unforgettable. Standing there, overlooking the sea, you can almost hear your own heartbeat.
Reine N — Google review
Obviously very crowded during sunset. The views are nice but you can find many more better places on the island to enjoy same views. The temple is surrounded by high and ugly fence which is visible on all pictures. Pity not many descriptions exist or I simply missed them in the crowd.
Jarosław S — Google review
Wonderful. It flows at night all lit up. A great historical spot. A slight hill to walk but do able.

Venetian Castle of Naxos

Mentioned on

Castle
The Venetian Castle of Naxos is a remarkable edifice with thick walls made of large rocks, showcasing traditional medieval architecture. The narrow streets are now lined with shops and Greek tavernas offering exceptional local produce and meats. Visitors can explore the Mycenaean City of Grotta, various museums, the Catholic Church, and the Central Tower within the Chora and main square.
It’s fun to walk through the ancient streets and discover the shops, art gallery and cafes. There’s is a lot of restoration happening at the moment which is nice to see. One worker let us peak our heads inside a door and see the gigantic beautiful room they were restoring. You can get a feel for what it was like back then and pretty amazing to imagine how they lived. The museum is nice and can see the old boarding school that it later became with some photos and brief history. Lunch on the roof top cafe was fabulous- food and service !
Lisa C — Google review
Pretty neat place, We came during off season so none of the insides were open to see. It was a cool experience walking around the streets and seeing all the old architecture.
Makai Y — Google review
Great place to visit in Naxos. I went here at the recommendation of a friend and it’s a sprawling area with some little shops and a museum and cute little alleyways. Up some amount of stairs but not difficult to get to at all.
Sarah C — Google review
The town was built around the castle as a maze to fend off pirates. There are tiny doors and windows as you walk around the castle and some ruins to show how they protected their belongings and is fascinating to walk around.
J L — Google review
Nice place, now they make reconstruction, have view from the top to all city, sea and Apolon door
Yuliy V — Google review
The castle is currently in renovations and only the kitchen is visible plus a few items from the castle.
I.S. — Google review
The walk up to the castle is really cool.
Mike R — Google review
It's there but If nobody told you you wouldn't know it. This former Venetian castle has been integrated into the fabric of the city so much that you can no longer tell it apart from private dwellings. The castle itself isn't very special. If you've seen castles before this one will rank low on your list. It is free to enter though and there is a swanky bar at the very top that provides a nice view of the town and harbor.

Castro Naxos 1204 Studios

Permanently Closed
Homestay
Holiday apartment rental
Castro Naxos 1204 Studios offers a relaxed stay in an old-world guesthouse located on a medieval street, with the added bonus of a terrace boasting stunning sea views. While exploring Naxos, it's advisable to have a car due to rough roads and long distances. The entire area is considered the castle, making it an intriguing maze of alleyways to wander through.
Lovely place to visit. There isn't a specific building that is the castle itself, the entire area is the castle so it's fun to wander through the maze of alleyways looking for the "castle". The village is built all around and inside it so it's not immediately obvious to the eye, and this is what makes this place special. I thoroughly enjoyed walking all around it. The Catholic Church is beautiful and so serene. I felt an instant sense of peace as soon as I walked in, almost spine tingling! It's worth sitting in there for a few mins to take in the tranquility and reflect if you're spiritual. You can easily spend an hour at Kastro of Naxos and then walk back down to the town for a nice, cool drink at a cafe to rest you feet and relax!
Chika A — Google review
Definitely worth a visit for those young, old and mobility challenged. I'm in a wheelchair and with a bit of process of elimination I managed to find the donkey and cart stair free access. There is also an elevator which then takes you into the castle itself. I highly recommend wandering the streets first though.
Pete W — Google review
It's a nice walk up to the Kastro, if you can find it 😉, with a lovely view at the Harbour and the city centre. Most of all I like wandering around in the old village.
Sara S — Google review
Old castle, not very well preserved. I somehow thought that I would be able to walk on the top of the castle and look down on the village but it was nothing like that. Was not able to go in, just walked on boring alleyways.
Julie P — Google review
Walking the narrow streets of Burgo and Castle very early in the morning, shopping sightseeing, drinking coffee (or even something stronger), eating lunch at restaurants with great seaview or enjoying a cocktail at the adventurous bars are just some reasons to visit this place..!
Evangelos G — Google review
My favorite place on the island. So nice to walk around town and around the castle. Beautiful place, very interesting and with lots of photo opportunities.
Stelios A — Google review
Unique atmosphere great things to see. Do not miss 1739 terrace cafe and APODO a marvelous cultural gift shop, both next to archaeological museum.

Dislike is not right description for something you can't find...I may have encountered the castle, but couldn't be sure. Signage is lacking, either on the historical site or in directions to it.

History Museums
The Archaeological Museum of Naxos is located in a building that reflects the island's architectural style during the Latin rule. It was once home to the Jesuits' Academy and later housed the 'Emporiki Scholi' (School of Commerce) visited by Nikos Kazantzakis. The museum displays significant artifacts from excavations on Naxos and neighboring islands, dating from the Neolithic Age to the late Roman period.
I really enjoyed this very small, unassuming, local museum and connected with its displays more than I have in bigger, fancier museums. I spent much more time there than I would have expected to for such a small place. There's something about being there, up close, just you and the artifacts, without the big, echo-y, glitzy architecture as a distraction. Admission is free. Definitely worth a visit, IMO.
Diane S — Google review
It is a small museum, and there is not much to see due to the renovation work. What's on display is very limited with very limited information on them. I really wanted to see the mosaics, but that section it was closed. The museum is located inside the old school. The museum is free to enter.
Angie O — Google review
The museum is located quite high up—specifically on the second floor—and can be accessed from multiple directions. If you’re using a stroller, you’ll need to take the elevator that leads to the café on the fourth floor and then go down the stairs from there. The exhibition is simple but features several important pieces, such as Cycladic figurines, vases decorated with sea creatures like octopuses, a small pig-shaped vessel, and glass containers. It’s worth a quick visit.
Dimosthenis V — Google review
Currently, Free Entry. The Archaeological Museum of Naxos is one of the most important museums in the world due to its early Cycladic collection which includes the famous marble figurines. It boasts unique works of art and objects of daily use from Naxos and the so-called Little Cyclades complex, which highlight the history of the Aegean region. Currently the Museum is closed since it is part of the project 'Islet of Museums in the Castle of Chora, Naxos' which is in progress of works. In the frame of this project, the Museum will be fully renovated so as to be included in a network of museums and other venues of cultural interest in the Castle of Chora, Naxos. From the 15th of May 2021 and for as long as the project lasts a 'Temporary Exhibition' of the Archaeological Museum of Naxos is available on the second floor of the Cultural Center 'Saint Ursula' at the former Ursulines Monastery of the Holy Catholic Archbishopric of Naxos, offering an enjoyable travel to the island's significant archaeological past.
Dimitris V — Google review
At the moment most of it is closed for renovation. It's just one room with about 20 glass cases for the next couple of years. If you've already been to any other Greek museum you can give this a miss. Not much to see until the museum fully opens again in a couple of years. The gift shop has more space currently
Dave T — Google review
As of 2025 the castle is undergoing renovations, but there aren’t many other places to see recognizable kitchenware from the Stone Age alongside Classical Age artifacts a thousand years younger. Free and recommended.
Steven S — Google review
Do not miss when in Naxos!!! Located in the amazing Castle of Chora, the buildning is beautiful, the former Ursulines Monastery. The early Cycladic collection of tha famous marble figurines is fantastic.
Katerina C — Google review
Only a small temporary exhibit was open, but it was free. Some findings date back to 5,000-6,000 years ago! Having such a small exhibit open meant that we really looked at the details of the pieces, it was a really good half an hour.

Sights & Landmarks
Bazeos Tower, originally a 17th-century monastery, now stands as a cultural hub and historical landmark on the island of Naxos. After being abandoned by monks in the 19th century, it became home to several families of potters. Today, the tower hosts various cultural activities and serves as an art gallery featuring works by both local and international artists. Visitors can explore its well-preserved chapel and learn about its rich history from friendly staff members.
What a delightfully unexpected find! I don't want to spoil any surprises, but there are treasures located inside. And a wonderful worker looked after us while there. If you love renovated historical buildings and art, this will be your cup of tea...
Greg B — Google review
The tickets to enter are €5 each and there’s a dedicated parking outside. The man that worked at the reception was ever so friendly and told us the history of the tower alongside explaining that there are works of contemporary artists too inside. The pray room/chapel inside is marvellous and is worth paying just to see it!
Julia ( — Google review
After many visits to the island, this was our first time exploring the historic Bazeos Tower. This local landmark is worth appreciating not only for its rich heritage, but also for the contemporary art exhibitions it hosts each year. The views are stunning, parking is plentiful, and on a windy or overcast morning, it’s an especially rewarding stop.
Helena C — Google review
Worth the trip up! It was a monastery for two centuries (1600s to 1800s). It is now used as a cultural center at the bequest of the Bazeos family.
Helen C — Google review
A beautiful place to be! Was there for 3 concerts in August. Absolutely stunning ❤️

Lovely art exhibit!! 5 Euro to visit, but well worth it!

5 Euros for a 7-minute visit. To be honest, it felt like wasted money.

Byzantine tower which was formerly a monetary and hosts now cultural events in the yard. Otherwise it can be visited for 5€ and hosts inside a changing art exhibition. Quite an interesting building and a nice view from the top of it. Not a must see but if you are in the are or looking for sth. interesting to see it is worth a visit

Beaches
Hawaii Beach in Naxos, Greece is a remote and serene sandy strip with smooth rock formations and stunning views of nearby hotel ruins. The beach is known for its vertical reddish cliffs that create a striking contrast with the yellow sand and blue waters. It's a tranquil spot where naturists may be spotted, although they tend to prefer the more isolated Kedros beach nearby. Accessible from Alyko, there are no public buses directly to the beach, but visitors can walk from there.
Absolutely beautiful place, had it all to myself for sunset. The hotel ruins have some amazing street art and the path down to the secluded beach is plenty doable. The water is crystal clear (like most of Naxos) and watching the sun set over the nearby islands was magical
Karen F — Google review
Beach itself had shade for the first half of the day which was handy because there is absolutely nothing else for shade. No toilets. Shore had enough depth for a swim and it had sand for added comfort. Nice views of Paros. Well protected from the northern winds currently smashing Naxos chora. 30min+ drive. Busses apparently do run there but I went by taxi. A short stroll through dry sandy shrub-land from the road. The trail going down to the beach won’t suit people with knee problems or larger frames. I enjoyed the beach but nearby Alyko beach in my opinion was better (max 200m walk) had stunning views of nearby mountains and the little church perched on the point. Dreamy. Water felt calmer there. Definitely worth visiting too as well as the abandoned hotel with graffiti. There’s also a great little food truck on the road for lunch and icecream which hit the spot. All within easy walking distance. A nice little daytrip itinerary for any solo travellers. Felt safe and wasn’t too crowded.
Kat D — Google review
Hawaii Beach is a wonderful small beach tucked under cliffs, giving it a quiet, private feel. It’s a beautiful spot, more suited for couples than families. The wind hits constantly, so it has more waves than other beaches, but still safe enough for kids to enjoy. No facilities around, so bring your own stuff. Definitely a must-visit stop in Naxos.
Julian M — Google review
Wonderful Beach with beautiful Rocks(clay) There is no Road to get to the beach. Need to climb down from Rocks. Worth to visit. We spend while day with kids. Nice Beach, suitable also for small Kids.
U-aura U — Google review
Rocky in most parts and not a super easy access but liked the little private cover along the beach. No shade so may want to bring cover.
Becky K — Google review
No facilities to speak off but a huge amount of parking and a short walk over scrubland to the beach. Take everything you need: locals had rigged up sunshades and brought cool boxes. We just had towels. Wet shoes might also be useful as there were a couple of anemones near a rocky patch. Choose your area carefully for easy access into the sea. Once you're in it's beautiful! A great place to fly a kite too.
Julie — Google review
..it's my favourite beach in greece.. Better than santorini.. I am not scared to swim and snorkle because the water is very clear and most of it are sand a little rocks but it's not scary to swim..

The Mitropolis On-site Museum, located at the edge of the Old Town, offers a unique open-air experience showcasing ancient Naxos town. Accessible via stairs below street level, it presents detailed and well-documented explanations of historical artifacts. Visitors can explore burial plans from the Mycenaean era and sanctuaries dedicated by archaic Greeks to their ancestors from the 8th century BC. The museum also provides a spacious square for relaxation after navigating through its intriguing exhibits.
Nice place and large square to rest a bit after going out the maze. Also inside is quite nice
Javier S — Google review
very interesting visit. apparently it is not well taken care of, but if you read the detail of each poster, the explanations are very detailed and very well documented. In short: it shows the plan of a burial from the Mycenaean era (12th-13th centuries BC) and the sanctuaries that the archaic Greeks of the 8th century BC dedicated precisely to their ancestors buried centuries ago. it is an analogy of the Homeric poems: the epic narrates the lower level, but it was written at the time of the upper level. beautiful and 100% recommended. it is also free and is in the same city of Xora.
Fernando G — Google review
Really interesting place with layers of ancient history, well presented. A pleasant lady started to explain it in English to us but was very rudely interrupted by a younger and highly aggressive colleague who went on and on shouting about something. It was quite upsetting to see such workplace bullying right in front of visitors. That said, the place is fascinating, free of charge and with just enough explanation to get the idea. I am sure if the guide had been allowed to speak to us, we would have had an excellent visit.
Libby J — Google review
This modest yet captivating site in Chora offers a deeply enriching experience for anyone interested in ancient Greek history. While the space may appear understated or not particularly well maintained at first glance, a closer look reveals a treasure trove of historical significance. The display centers on a Mycenaean burial from the 12th–13th century BC, and shows how centuries later, in the 8th century BC, the Archaic Greeks returned to the same site to build sanctuaries honoring their heroic ancestors. This layered construction mirrors the structure of the Homeric epics themselves—poems of the Archaic period but depicting a much older heroic age (Bronze Age Mycenaeans). Visitors are invited to reflect on how myth, memory, and ritual intertwined in the formation of Greek identity. Informative posters, rich in archaeological detail, provide excellent context—even if the signage may require a bit of attention. A helpful staff member may even offer some background to enhance your visit. Best of all, entrance is free, making it an easily accessible and highly recommended stop while you’re in Chora.
Dimosthenis V — Google review
Incredibly neglected, dirty and in very bad shape. It's a real pity it has been left like this. The glass floor was filthy, so was the glass entrance door... They put a handwritten note to say the museum is there and it's open since there is no way to tell... 🙄
Konstantina — Google review
We got there at 15:16 on our last day in Naxos and were denied access, even though the museum closes at 16:00 and last entry is at 15:15. Do they really want people to learn about the island's history and culture?
Electra V — Google review

Restaurant
Meze *2 is a family-run restaurant in Naxos Town known for its fresh fish dishes and traditional Greek food. The warm welcome and attentive service create a pleasant dining experience. The menu offers a variety of options, including cheese croquettes, horta, and fish delicacies. While some dishes like the overcooked horta may not meet expectations, others such as the fried cheese are highly enjoyable.
Generous portions and great quality food! Every dish was flavorful and freshly made. We were pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary yogurt at the end – a nice touch that made the experience even better. Definitely worth a visit.
Gisela F — Google review
Restaurant conveniently right by the port, we came for lunch to kill time while waiting for the ferry. We ordered: • The usual Fava and Saganaki Naxian Graviera with Orange marmalade (It came with 2 slices of cheese as opposed to the usual single, however the marmalade was a little too sweet for my liking.) • Octopus croquette: On the salty side, the tartar sauce balances it out though. • Naxian meatballs were delicious, perfectly cooked and the explosion of flavours was amazing! Server was really nice and attentive. Brought us complimentary dessert: naxian yogurt with sweetened carrot on top. I must say, I’m loving their yogurt desserts. So simple, yet so delicious! Everything, with the 2 cans of coke, came up to €42!
Ashley B — Google review
You'd think it's a tourist trap, being so close to the port, on main street. Couldn't be more wrong. I was not hungry, so I ordered a starter - sardines, fries and tzatziki. This could have easily fed a family of two plus kid. The sardines were perfect, lots of waiters attended, but all staff is nice and attentive. Got complimentary dessert. Had to roll back to the hotel. Really, come hungry!
Moni B — Google review
The shrimps were pre-cooked and about 6/20 mussels were closed and inedible. The food was brought out on cold plates and cooled the food down really quickly. It tasted nice but wouldn’t go back
James E — Google review
Our host at Villa Naxia recommended this place, and it was great. We had marinated anchovies which were an anchovy-lover's delight, exceptionally fresh. And, we had a seafood salad that was outstanding in every way, so fresh as if all the ingredients had been caught that morning. They served us a side dish of buttered potatoes with onion, olives, capers, and tomatoes that was excellent, too. Like others, I had my doubts about any place so close to the port docks, but this was a good restaurant for seafood. I can't say much about non-seafood dishes except for the above potatoes, but if you are looking forward to having a great Naxos seafood dinner, this is a place you should consider.
Ed M — Google review
The food at this restaurant is amazing! They were friendly and able to accommodate our group of 9. The owner took our order and explained the dishes to us, which helped in placing our order. I do not like seafood and was able to find plenty of delicious things to eat. Some of the standout dishes were the zucchini croquettes, fried Naxos cheese, seafood rice, cheese spread, and Cretan dakos (basically a Greek salad with bread, so good!). The food was delicious and the service was great.
Katie K — Google review
We had a nice dinner here and were especially impressed by the meze selection—everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. The eggplant dishes and the cheese-based spreads were particularly delicious and definitely worth trying. However, the calamari was a bit of a letdown. It was slightly overcooked and lacked the tenderness and taste we were hoping for. Aside from that, the overall experience was enjoyable, with friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. Great place if you’re looking to enjoy tasty meze in a relaxed setting, just skip the calamari.

Best food we had in Naxos by far! We actually came twice because it was that good. The menu has so many amazing options, and everything we tried was a 10/10. I can’t thank the staff enough, they were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Honestly, just amazinggggg! Highly recommend.

Amazing restaurant highly recommend !! We made a reservation for this restaurant our last day in the island. The food is amazing, the service was above and beyond, and we even got a limoncello sorbet on the house. Definitely recommend having a reservation. We thankfully made one, there was a line of people waiting when we got there. We ordered the Dolmades, Zucchini Balls, Stifado (rabbit), and Sikoti (beef liver). Portions of the main entree are big. All of them were amazing, definitely recommend the Zucchini Balls, super tasty !

Wow what a treat this meal was!! Such a warm welcome from the staff - great service, so much fun. The food itself - absolutely delicious. I will think about that beef with orzo for a long time, but everything was just delicious. Thankyou for having us!! Hope to return.

We stopped in without a reservation and had to wait less than 15 minutes to get a table street side. The service was so quick and courteous. We asked for their opinions on how much to order if we wanted to share everything and were immensely satiated. We got vinegar octopus (cold dish), an arugula salad with balsamic glaze and Naxian cheese which was delicious, and the moussaka that we ate so quickly that we didn’t get a picture 😅

An exceptional meal - my favourite from three weeks in Greece. I had the fava, dolmades, and shrimp orzo - they were all incredible, but the orzo was particularly outstanding. Friendly and attentive service too!

We went in the middle of October at the end of the season and it felt like a private dining experience. The host was so generous and kind… wonderful conversation and delicious food! It’s very clear that the people that work here care about the guests experience

I don’t write reviews very often, but my experience here was so good that I had to. I visited the restaurant based on a recommendation, and it was such a great experience that I came back the very next day. The food was absolutely delicious – I had dolmades that were probably the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the whole experience was simply the best!

Came here 2 nights in a row because it was so good! Gluten free options available on the menu. So delicious, highly recommend!! Best to reserve a table in advance or else you might miss out.

Located in the heart of Naxos Town, Sarris Tavern is a popular spot for food enthusiasts. The restaurant offers an incredible dining experience with its generous portions of authentic Greek food at very fair prices. Visitors can enjoy dishes like fish soup and fresh fish of the day. The tavern's warm hospitality and complimentary dessert add to the overall charm of this lovely restaurant.
The fish soup is fantastic, highly recommended! You want to sop up every last drop with the free bread. We also ordered the marinated sardines, grilled calamari, and scorpion fish and all were fresh and tasty. Service is incredibly friendly. The complimentary wine and dessert at the end of the meal is just the cherry on top. It’s amazing how delicious greek yogurt, honey, and fresh fruit taste.

This place was incredible. My hotel owner recommended it as authentic seafood, and I am so happy I came. It was the best food I’ve had in Greece, possibly of my life. I had 2 appetizers: sardines and fish salad. I eat seafood all the time and the quality here was amazing, very fresh. Dessert of yogurt and honey, again amazing quality and made with high quality raw honey. My waiter was very sweet as well, gave me lots of travel recommendations. Highly recommended you go!

Very good food. Fresh, flavourful. Had the shrimp pasta and grilled calamari. Waiters were very friendly, top notch customer service. Would recommend and come back here again 😄. Thank you friends!

Went to Sarris for dinner with my son tonight, we were both craving seafood pasta. He had the spaghetti with shrimp, and I went for the spaghetti with fish. We also shared a cucumber and tomato salad, which was just right, especially after seeing how huge the Greek salad was! We absolutely loved the pastas. They were bursting with flavour. Just amazing and exactly what we needed.

Great food and atmosphere, the fish soup is a must! Get some bread alongside the bread, to make sure you get every last drop. Very savory and delicious. Went for lunch and immediately made a reservation for dinner the same day! The yogurt with honey and fruit was also given on the house, amazing.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch here! The staff was incredibly welcoming and even brought out the fresh catch of the day so we could choose our fish. The daily fish soup special was absolutely delicious and not to be missed, and the Naxos salad was large, fresh, and full of flavor. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

To Elliniko Restaurant offers a laid-back atmosphere and serves traditional regional cuisine. It is located near the police station and features live music. The restaurant is known for its good food and great service, making it a popular choice among locals and tourists alike. The cozy indoor seating provides a warm escape from chilly temperatures, while the outdoor terrace offers a pleasant dining experience. Reservations are recommended as the restaurant tends to fill up quickly due to its excellent food and inviting ambiance.
The best place to eat in Naxos main town by far. We went there twice because the food was really good. Moussaka was very good. Loved stuffed peppers and tomatoes. Lovely cats sleeping around. Great atmosphere! Reasonable prices and decent portions. Would recommend booking in advance as this place is busy all the time and you won’t get a table unless booked
Kernius K — Google review
I ordered the baby goat. It was absolutely wonderful and the portion was generous. I could not finish it and had to so takeaway. The Tzatziki was so refreshing but the best was quite tough. Still the best meal I’ve had in Greece. They also served orange cake as complimentary after bill. One thing, It was an outdoor restaurant, we went in daytime so it was pretty hot. Would recommend to come for dinner.

Great restaurant with an amazing atmosphere, attention to detail. Very romantic and picturesque garden/terrace. Great local food and delicacies. We visited it four years ago and had to come back this time again to check if it was still good. While it got super touristy and packed with American tourists, the overall experience was very good.
Vahap A — Google review
I don’t usually review places right after visiting them - maybe many months pass after I get a reminder do I write a review, but today’s visit To Elliniko merits an immediate shout out, and sharing with the world what a worthy visit this was. They had the best food we’ve had in Greece so far (including having been taken out to eat by Greek friends in Athens), they had the most generous portions, and above all they had a superb family friendly atmosphere and vibe that just made you jive with the place. We’ve been meaning to come here all week (we’re staying a bit far) but made it today with our 6 month old baby, a little weary about potential rain… the staff were attentive, they kept giving kind smiles to our baby, and the owner even offered to carry him for 10 mins while we ate (he was a bit fussy got his first tooth yesterday)… we’ve experienced first hand how much Greeks dote over babies here, it this was above and beyond 5 star service. The atmosphere is unpretentious yet refined, the taste is five stars yet the portions are very very generous, especially given that the prices are quite fair - we had the moussaka, which is easy to mess up, and this was easily the best I’ve ever tasted! My husband who finds lamb gamey, said he’d eat lamb every day if it tasted like the grilled lamb chops we ordered. We still had leftovers to bring home. Do yourselves a favor and run, don’t walk to this beautiful, family-owned restaurant if you’re lucky to be in Naxos. The many reviews don’t lie. Gracias por una linda experiencia.

Excellent meal with a sassy cat friend! Loved the vegetarian moussaka and the Naxian salad was perfect. Best dolmas I had in Greece (order then for sure!). The seating, service, and general vibe was great. 10/10, definitely recommend coming by. I can see why so many locals recommended it!

Wow! Wish we ate here earlier, would have come back a second time! Food is really nice and amazing value for money! The vine leaves are a must with the yoghurt dip. The moussaka is unbelievable and the orange cake 😙👌 — thank you for having us! 🙏🙌

We went back here twice during our stay. The service is great plenty of staff on hand. We have the whitebait appetiser, beetroot salad & lamb chops (4) which comes with roasted vegetables & potatoes. We shared & was so full. The portions are generous. Super tasty. Chops are €17. We had 1lt of local white wine at €14, cheapest yet. You can't go there if it is raining as it's open air, very small undercover area. Thank you for proper food.

I was recommended this restaurant from my accommodation place as I was looking for somewhere special to go for my birthday. I was not disappointed. The food was amazing. I had the Kleftiko and it was like unwrapping a birthday present. The lamb was melt in your mouth and the flavours were so good. My companion had the Pork Rosto and it was equally tender and flavourful. We both left with full bellies. I highly recommend.

Maro's Taverna is a renowned family-run restaurant in Naxos, offering simple yet delightful Greek dishes for three generations. Located near the picturesque Panagia Drossiani, this cozy and traditional taverna is popular among both tourists and locals. The menu features Naxian-style food with large portions at affordable prices, including roast pork, Greek salads, Daurade fish dishes, moussaka, gyros platter, and rosto pork.
Under new ownership, this charming restaurant continues to impress. Though moussaka and pastitsio weren’t available, the quality remained outstanding. The fresh porgy exceeded expectations, lamb chops were delightfully crispy, and the pasta bolognese hit the spot. A vibrant salad and Naxian saganaki rounded out the meal perfectly. Warm hospitality made the experience even better, with a generous offering of local Greek wine. The tradition of great food and atmosphere lives on—I’ll definitely be back to try more dishes!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I ate here every day during my stay - that’s how good it was! The food is absolutely delicious, with plenty of vegan options and great prices. I especially recommend the stuffed paprika and tomato, and the local white wine pairs perfectly. The hospitality was amazing, so warm and welcoming. If I ever visit Naxos again, I’ll definitely come back! Regards from Serbia!
Jovana S — Google review
Service and atmosphere was fantastic but I was underwhelmed by the food based on reviews I had read. Ordered the drunk pig, meatballs and sauce and cheese saganaki. Had wanted to order moussaka but they ran out by 830 pm. The pork in the drunk pig was very fatty, and the meatballs were pretty dry. Would like to give it another chance because the portions were big, but it definitely was a let down. The garlic bread was the best item I ordered.

Great to be back at wonderful Maro again! Proper authentic Greek taverna. The food is so good, and the staff and atmosphere are super too!!We always end up asking for 'ena paketa' so we can take what we can't eat home. The portions are very generous. My husband almost always has the meatballs in tomato sauce and I think the there chicken Schnitzel is one of the best I ever have. They are also lovely people and kind to the cats too. The cats are hilarious here, and its worth a visit just for them! The prices are extremely good and if you want to try a true local taverna where real Greeks go too, - eat here.

Whenever I am in Naxos I will eat dinner at this authentic, charming taverna. The menu offers countless options of homemade food, including “gemista, kokkinisto, rosto” and much more. The more known dishes such as “moussaka, pastitsio, keftethakia” are also available. Everything is served in huge portions that can easily be shared. The flavours are just great! I find the gentlemen serving the food very fast and charming and always feel like I am a local. The place looks rustic but is full of charm. A definite recommendation!

Italian restaurant
Su e Giu is a popular Italian restaurant located on the seafront in Naxos. It's highly recommended by frequent visitors to the island for its delicious Italian cuisine and seasonal seafood. The restaurant offers a separate vegetarian section on their menu, along with a variety of pasta and pizza options, generous portions, and delightful desserts. Visitors praise the attentive service and appreciate that it's not considered a tourist trap like many other waterfront establishments.
I found the staff there to be extremely friendly, talkative, and helpful. We were especially surprised by the size of the pizza (family-sized) as it arrived, and even more surprised when we found out just how delicious and natural it tasted. We additionally ordered a salad and a bowl of mussels. While we’ve got zero complaints for the salad, the mussles (or the soup it was cooked in) did taste a bit too salted for our preferences. The meat inside is tiny compared to what I had in France, which is a bit disappointing. When we were finished they gave us a lemon alcoholic drink. It was a refreshing conclusion to an amazing meal. The last remark I have is about the 16€, one-litre opened wine that we ordered. The container said “FINE WINE” but the wine tasted definitely not “FINE”. I would say it’s mediocre and I would advise either ordering the bottled wine, or avoid altogether. All in all, I would still rate this restaurant a 5-star. It was a fantastic dining experience.
MrLeung99 — Google review
My wife and I enjoyed our first meal so much we went back for a second straight night. Some of the best Italian you'll find on the island, especially considering the value of food quality, staff friendliness and atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend, thanks to Susanna and the entire team for a wonderful two meals!!
Alexander D — Google review
After reading other reviews I went here with a high expectations of the food quality and atmosphere. It was frustration, even chagrin. I chose pasta with chicken, based on menu, their top seller since 2014 and it was like a homemade pasta after a long hardworking day - eatable, but not delicious. My partner had chosen pizza prociutto&funghi - just waste of money: cheese is awful, all of the rest components are okayish. Despite the fact of a not delicious food, service was good: fast, pleasant open and talkative. They speak English good and can help with a choice. I also was warned immediately what isn't available in the menu - maybe I was unlucky and all good food was eaten before. To sum up, I won't recommend visiting the place if you're in search of a delicious food and want to feed not only stomach, but also brain with a food pleasure.

Been visiting "Susanna's" since 2015. Every time we are in Naxos, we cannot skip this wonderful place. Everything's literally delicious and the portions are quite big. It's really lovely to see that Susanna is also part of the staff. Her vibe is amazing and she's always smiling! Definitely worth visiting!🧡

I was here 5 years ago in naxos and enjoyed pizza at Susanna's restaurant. I decided to come back because it was so good. We had a great salad with a fantastic pizza. The pizza for two to three people is huge! We could have probably gone away with a personal size and the salad. The house wines were excellent. Susanna hasn't aged a day!

The best meal I've had in Greece...ok yes it was an Italian dish but 'wow!' ...I had a meal that apparently a customer requested in 2014 .. turned out to be that tasty that they decided to include it in the menu..penne pasta, caramelized onion and chicken with a white cheese sauce...superb!.... Back again after 3 years...still amazing food and views...😎

Absolutely incredible. Not a tourist trap. Legit excellent food. The Sangria is so special and the best I have ever had. Pizza was fantastic. If you are looking for a simple mid day nosh, the pizza for one is plenty for two. Thank you to the previous review who mentioned that pro-tip.

Charming restaurant in the port at the centre of Naxos! So many things to love here. The tiny little details in the decor, the ambiance, great place to chill, hang out, people watch, see the sunset and of course the food and service. Courteous and polite, accommodating staff. Dishes are delicious. I love how generous they are in the seafood in the pasta which is very rare in restaurants plus they can customize their cooking the way to your liking. Vegan and vegetarian options. Menu is in Greek, English and French which is another plus. Highly recommended.

Beautiful authentic Greek restaurant. We ordered half liter of their house white wine, the “Green” salad, shrimp orzo, baklava, and their orange pie with ice cream. All were delicious! The orange pie in my opinion was the better dessert option. The service was great and the basil plant on each table was a nice touch. If I were in Naxos longer I would eat here again!

Had my final dinner on Naxos here right next to my hotel. Simply chose a dish with cooking paper wrapping some meat and potato to cook, some bread and half liter of wine. Over estimated myself as I still had to pack later the night, and I was a bit too tipsy to do it efficiently afterward. The dish tasted fine, and it was lovely seasoned to the spot.
Luke L — Google review
An excellent experience at Meltemi. The beet salad was superb. Eggplant fans, we had the special moussaka, baked in a ceramnic pot, and the kalogiros with veal, Naxian gruyere and bechamel on top. Try their own bottled Meltemi wine, an agiorgitiko, which was good at 20 euros for 750ml.

Wonderful, authentic restaurant that offers lots of different traditional dishes. Prompt and friendly service, and we loved the ambience on the outdoor terrace. The orange cake for dessert is incredible!
Nicole M — Google review
During our first dinner there I had the stuffed tomatoes with rice and spices with potatoes appetizer for my main meal and a tomato and cucumber salad with olives capers and red onions. It was quite good. They had a few other vegan options on the menu including a roasted vegetable dish(Briam), roasted eggplants and many salads. However, I gave 3 stars instead of 4 because tonight we got take away since my husband was sick and ordered the green salad, which was great, ( should have gotten two) and the rocket Parmesan salad and when we got home the "rocket Parmesan salad" was boiled unseasoned greens" . I assume the put the wrong order in the bag as it was supposed to contain lettuce, Parmesan, sundried tomatoes, croutons, olives, capers, and balsamic. So perhaps just check your container before leaving. Too bad as it sounded good 🫤.

A comfortable open environment with many seatings to accommodate its clients. It's more or less a first come, first served basis. I chose to try the fried cheese and a rabbit dish. The cheese was great, but it was way too filling for one person. The rabbit dish was interesting, but I suppose it wasn't my kind of meat. The texture was like chicken breast. The seasoning tastes great thou.

The most beautiful place we visited (me, two kids 16/21) on Naxos. It’s on a hill besides an old watermill. The view is truly breathtaking! Nothing like it. But as if that isn’t enough… this family restaurant has real soul. Being there, you feel like coming home, by the warm welcome, not only in words but in every sense of the way, mirrored in the eyes of the host and the gentle, kind waitress. I can not describe it otherwise then that we felt loved and part of this family energy that really want to share their love for food and culture. This is one you just HAVE to visit! For romance, for authentic Greek prepared food (by mother & son), for the feeling that we are all part of one human family. “We are the leaves of one tree and the flowers of one garden” 🌸🇬🇷🌍

An absolute gem, no tourist food here. Proper top end Greek food with a twist. The Salad was full of fresh ingredients, the Meatballs in a potato puree were amazing and Mom's Homemade Pies were Yummy! Our Host was very friendly and even gave us a guided tour of the old Windmill, which has been fully restored. Last but not least, this has to be one of the best views if not the best on the island!

The kitchen is definitely one of the best on Naxos. The food and the view are really beautiful. The service is very friendly and attentive. It's definitely worth the journey, even if it takes some time to get there by car. I would definitely recommend it. If you want to have dinner there, it's a good idea to bring a jacket, as it can get a little cold in the evenings at this height. This is especially true at the start or end of summer, after sunset.

After dinner they gave us the history and tour of the windmill, which was quite fascinating. I cannot recommend this place enough!

This beautiful little spot just opened a week ago, and it’s already a hidden gem worth discovering. My wife and I stumbled upon it and ended up having one of the most memorable evenings of our trip. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, with a cozy local vibe that feels both authentic and welcoming. The food was delicious – homemade, traditional dishes full of flavor and prepared with care. Prices were very fair, especially considering the quality. Service was exceptional; the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and were genuinely kind. One of the highlights was the adjacent windmill, where they offer a short tour as part of the experience – a lovely touch that added to the charm. And the sunset… just breathtaking. We sat with a glass of wine, great music in the background, and watched the sky change colors over the mountains and sea. It felt like time slowed down. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for something special but unpretentious. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the area.

During a delightful evening in mid-May, I had the pleasure of dining at Nostimon Hellas, a gem nestled in the vibrant heart of Naxos Town. The experience began with a refreshing arugula salad adorned with Naxos Gruyere and zesty orange, setting the stage for an exquisite chicken dish infused with citron and bacon, accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes and zucchini. Each bite was simply divine!
This Greek restaurant is an absolute gem! I wish we found that Mediterranean paradises a bit sooner, not towards the end of our adventure in Naxos. The ambiance was warm and inviting, with soft lighting, intimate atmosphere, but best of all - excellent food! The menu is a blend of traditional dishes with modern touches. The flavors are bold, fresh, and perfectly balanced. I wish I wrote this review sooner so I’d remember the names of the dishes better, but in all honesty, every single dish we ordered there was one of a kind! The presentation, the flavor the outstanding service were top notch. Just looking at the pictures of the food I remember the taste and warm summer nights in Greece. They were so great with our kids and the chef took my daughter to the kitchen to share some freshly made bread!

The best food on Naxos! By the time we departed Naxos, we might have been the most sad to miss out on our daily morning breakfast date at Hellas with the lovely Yiota. The food is fresh, healthy, with hearty portions and while definitely Greek food, Yiota and her team take a creative twist on popular dishes. Like the March 25 sandwich- it is traditional to have fried cod on Greece’s Independence Day, but they wrap it in a house-made, fluffy light Bao Bun with beet pesto, and garlicky potato spread. It was transcendental- delicious! Every breakfast item is also the best we’d ever had. Additionally the coffee is stellar, the drink selection fun and varied. We ate here every day on Naxos. I miss Nos Hellas food and Yiota’s welcoming smile and departing hug. This might be the number 1 reason I return to Naxos.

Our favourite food spot of our entire holiday. Fantastic food and service. We dined here 6 times in 5 days and were never disappointed. Very affordable breakfast and lunch meals! Great gluten free options. The Black Angus Burger was 10/10. We will come back to Naxos just for Nostimon Hellas!!!

Amazing restaurant! We came here three times, the food was always delicious and we just had to keep trying more things and it was all so good! The owner Yiota is just lovely, so welcoming and kind. She was super fun to talk to and gave us some super good recommendations for traveling around Naxos. Would highly recommend eating here! Breakfast, brunch, lunch, late lunch - so many options!!

A lovely woman runs this brunch place. Yummy, creamy scrambled eggs, fresh pressed orange juice, strong coffee and amazing sandwiches. Simple flavors, fresh, classic — YUM!

Santorini Airport

International airport
Airport
Santorini Airport, officially known as Santorini (Thira) International Airport (JTR), is the largest airport in the southern Aegean Sea. Located north of Kamari village and six kilometers from Fira, the island's capital, it serves as both a civilian and military facility. Before COVID-19, it welcomed around 2.5 million passengers annually, making it Greece's eighth-busiest airport.
The first time I arrived at Santorini Airport, my heart was pounding with excitement and joy. Although it’s just a small airport on this famous Mediterranean island, the atmosphere felt truly special—as if I had stepped into another world, far from the noise and rush of everyday life. As the plane landed, I looked out the window and saw the deep blue sky blending with the white-washed houses on the distant hillside. It was a picture-perfect scene that made me smile with anticipation. The airport itself is not large, but it’s clean, airy, and cozy. The staff were friendly and warmly welcomed travelers with bright smiles and kind eyes. Laughter and cheerful conversations filled the air, from groups of friends to families eagerly starting their vacations. A wave of happiness washed over me as I imagined the turquoise beaches, white stone streets, and romantic sunsets waiting ahead. Santorini Airport wasn’t just the first stop of my journey—it felt like a gateway to a dream. A dream of a vibrant summer, of freedom, color, and unforgettable moments. In that moment, I knew something magical had begun.

Great airport, it’s a very small airport and the security is very fast so there’s no real need to come very early for flights. I will note, inside there are very limited food options so just beware. The staff are kind and helpful.

Santorini Airport is a small but very busy airport, especially during the summer season when thousands of tourists arrive daily. The facilities are modest and can sometimes feel overcrowded, but the airport fulfills its purpose of connecting the island with major European destinations. Staff are generally helpful, and the atmosphere reflects the relaxed island vibe. Despite the crowds, it is a unique experience to land on Santorini, as the views during arrival and departure are truly breathtaking.

Arrived at Santorini earliest flight and sunrise welcomed us. But heading back to athens was quite the opposite, we had to wait at the airport because of delayed flight for 3 hours and caught a red-eye flight returning to athens.

Santorini Fira Airport is small but efficient. The check-in and security process were quite smooth, and the staff were polite and helpful. The airport is clean and easy to navigate, which makes travel stress-free. However, the waiting area could use a bit more seating and better food options. Overall, a pleasant experience and a good start (or end) to a trip in beautiful Santorini!
Mithun M — Google review
Santorini Airport is quite small, but overall it’s clean and well-maintained. The check-in and security procedures were very quick and efficient. Although the facilities are limited, it’s a smooth and stress-free experience for a small island airport.

This is a small but efficient airport in Santorini. Our flight arrived on time, and our luggage came out quickly as well. Overall, we had a good experience — the facilities were clean, especially the toilets, and the airport is well signposted, making it easy to find your way around.

Santorini International Airport is located north of the village of Kamari. Airfield can accommodate medium-sized jets as well as smaller aircraft. Commercial flights are seasonal, scheduled and charter flights from other airlines during the higher seasons in spring, summer and autumn. It is quite small, but overall it’s clean and well-maintained. The check-in and security procedures were very quick and efficient. Although the facilities are limited, it’s a smooth and stress-free experience for a small island airport. There is no drinking water facility in the airport, no lounge, no proper seating area and no mobile charging points. Free WiFi is available.

Αεροδρόμιο Μυκόνου (Mykonos Airport)

International airport
Airport
Mykonos International Airport is conveniently located just 4km from the capital of the island, making it easily accessible for travelers. It offers flights from Athens and several European cities during peak season. The airport provides taxi services to Mykonos Town and also has a bus option for those looking to travel further. Despite its size, the airport offers various amenities including dining options and duty-free shopping. However, some visitors have reported issues with the charging stations.
Nice and clean airport. Staffs at airports are helpful and friendly. We arrive 2hr before flight for drop bag and check-in as it is a small airport and process is so quick First time to Mykonos and I love it. People are friendly and foods are nice. We spend a week there and feel welcoming and relaxed. Might be busier in the town, especially the cruises stop.

Make sure you take notice of your flight departures and boarding times, as they don't usually announce the flight boarding at this airport. It's a tiny airport with 3 gates all together in one place. Small duty free shop and few food options. Food prices at airport are much more expensive than in town. Options are limited especially with hot foods. Coffee and drinks are available. Custom was quick though, maybe because it's not a high season and wasn't crowded.

The unique European airport that its facade respects the traditional architecture & local Myconian morphology of Cycladic civilization in highlighted aesthetics and it's not industrial like all the rest airports of the world. In 2017, Fraport Greece gave it's new face-lift and expansion. It's small inside but with very fast check-in & security services. It was built during late '60's to serve the island's THEN- GROWING TOURISM.

It s a litlle bit small but a great airport with amazing food and coffee You should try pret a manger
Pantso K — Google review
Beware, doesn’t allow digital boarding passes and doesn’t have machines to print boarding passes. You 100% will have to wait in line for a paper boarding pass. Prepare to lose all conveniences technology has created, this airport is incredibly poorly managed.

The airport is small which makes it easy to navigate, however, some departments are not as clear, such as gate 5a & 5b and 6a &6b. A lot of people were confused where to check in and signs were not very clear. Staff when going through security were kinda rude. My mother who was a bit confused about something has one of the men on the gate snapping at her. I understand it's a stressful job, especially coming from someone who works with people, but that was very out of order... For myself, my possessions where flagged up when going through the scanner, which started to stress me out as I had a lot of medication on me. I had my doctors notes and everything I needed, but they failed to inform me it was a random check, and spoke to me and my family like we did something wrong, despite being compliant. I will give my stars to the man doing the check, who was friendly and put me at ease. When I said I had my doctors notes, he informed me then that it was just a standard check. I'd appreciate if staff can take note of this error, politeness and the ability to communicate what the check is for can really defuse situations. Please do this in future.

My experience at this airport was surprisingly poor. Check-in and boarding felt disorganized, and several staff interactions came across as rushed and dismissive. When I asked for help, responses were abrupt and unhelpful. The overall atmosphere felt chaotic and unsupported, which made the entire process stressful. Travelers deserve clear communication and basic courtesy—this airport has a lot of work to do.

Small airport but perfect for an island like Mykonos. It follows the Greek theme and has sufficient amenities including WiFi . The staff were friendly, and the car rentals, ATM machines were conveniently located near the exit.
