Nice historical castle dating back to Norman times with a Rich history. There are plenty of walks around the castle. there is a nice herb garden close to the visitor center. Ideal for relaxing, strolling or walking the dogs, would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area
Rob Y — Google review
Nice walk around Castle but visitor centre was closed during week as it was off season. No charge to enter castle grounds. Lovely views across Stafford and county. Also a herb garden at side of visitor centre.
Peter H — Google review
Lovely place for a walk (manageable for a toddler) and cute summer trail on for kids over summer. The visitor centre has costumes that can dress up in which our biggest lad(3yrs) really loved. We really enjoyed our visit!
Beth P — Google review
We took our little miniature Dachshund for a visit here the other day....he loved it and so did we. Lovely woodland walk up to and around the castle. Walking amongst the ruins you get a sense of battles past, quite a strong feeling. The views over Stafford are amazing. Delightful.

Stafford Castle, located on Newport Road in Stafford, is a striking landmark with a history that spans over 900 years. Perched on a prominent vantage point, the castle was originally established by the Normans around 1100 AD, under the direction of Robert de Toeni, later known as Robert of Stafford. Its position was strategically chosen to oversee and control the surrounding landscape, a testament to its military importance during the Norman consolidation of England. The castle began as a classic motte and bailey structure, featuring a wooden keep atop a large man-made mound and enclosed courtyards below. Over the centuries, the wooden fortifications were replaced by stone, reflecting the increasing need for stronger defenses. In the mid-14th century, Ralph de Stafford, the first Earl of Stafford, commissioned the construction of a stone keep and battlements, further enhancing the castle’s defensive capabilities and grandeur. Stafford Castle has witnessed the ebb and flow of English history. It played a significant role during the medieval period, including the Wars of the Roses, and was a focal point of local power for the Stafford family. However, by the early 17th century, the castle had fallen into decline. During the English Civil War, it was defended by Lady Isabel but eventually abandoned and partially demolished. The 19th century saw a revival of interest in the site, with the Jerningham family rebuilding the castle in the Gothic Revival style on the original foundations. Despite this, the structure once again fell into disrepair and was abandoned by the mid-20th century. Today, Stafford Castle stands as a partially restored ruin, offering visitors a fascinating glimpse into its layered past. The site features informative interpretation panels and a visitor centre that help bring its history to life. Throughout the year, Stafford Castle hosts a diverse program of events, including historical re-enactments, wildlife fairs, and the renowned Stafford Festival Shakespeare productions each summer. The site is also popular for educational tours, themed workshops, and family activities, making it a vibrant destination for all ages.

You can see the view of Stafford city from the height, good hike, its green and serene but nothing much to see.
Taimoor M — Google review
Great place to visit, there is a small visitor centre with an even smaller cafe that does tea coffee cakes and pastries but it's nice and cosy with seating outside, there's also toilets that are OK and clean, the castle is steep up a dirt path not ideal if you have a pushchair or wheelchair, but if you can get to the top the views alone are worth it,the castle is small being built on a hill but must have been impressive in it's day as it looks like it was at least three storey, you can see this from the stairwell but being derelict they are not there, great day out for the family to have a picnic with lots of parking available.
David C — Google review
This castle was built nine hundred years ago and had seen several invasions and changes but still standing as one of historical enigma proving Lord Stafford's endeavour. This castle is ruined but shows various characters and sub classification of rooms and premises.

Historic Sites
Nestled in the heart of Stafford, the Ancient High House is a remarkable Tudor museum that invites visitors to step back in time. This stunning Elizabethan town house, constructed in 1595 by the Dorrington family, stands as one of England's largest timber-framed buildings. History enthusiasts will be captivated by its rich past, including a notable visit from King Charles I during the English Civil War. Inside, you'll find an array of period furniture and fascinating exhibitions showcasing memorabilia from various eras.
History museum over three floors. From military history up to the history of the house itself. The ancient high house looks very special from the inside as well as from the outside. It is definitely worth a visit.
Brynja K — Google review
Nice museum to have a look around if you have an hour to spare. Free entry. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Stuffy — Google review
Stumbled on this museum while out and about for Heritage Open Days. What a find! The building is just amazing. Although the museum is great, it was the actual building that captived me. Seeing the timbers was fascinating and to see the attic space was great. Three floors of exhibits, with the military taking up the attic space. There is no fee to visit, but please donate. There is a little gift shop and facilities onsite The lady on the desk was lovely welcoming and knowledgeable. Fantastic
Lynn ( — Google review
A great slice of history preserved in this building right in the centre of town. Architecturally significant, the social history is also of great human interest and we enjoyed meeting volunteer and regular staff. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area-it’s free and donations are accepted!
Julie G — Google review
This is one of the oldest house in Stafford built in the 1500s the era of Queen Elizabeth the 1st.. It’s quite a big house full of history. It’s nice to wander around inside and imagine how people lived in the past.
Anita R — Google review
A must visit if you are in the Stafford area. Very well preserved old house with rooms decorated to the different periods that the house has lived. The militaria memorabilia on the top floor is also perfectly organised and enrich surely our knowledge or the world conflicts and the role of the Stafforshire forces.
Roberto F — Google review
What a delightful place to visit. The wonderful lady behind the front desk told us that the house dates back to Elizabeth the 1st in 1545 and was actually built in the shape of an E. Those of you from Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 (like me 😊) and Ireland will be interested to note that Charles the 1st and Prince Rupert took refuge here and set up his headquarters whilst waiting for back up from troops from Wales and Ireland 🇮🇪 at the start of the civil war in 1642. There is a room showing how the house was constructed and shows the bare bones of the structure, And a room showing an exhibition on the many ways Arsenic was used in daily life to make a beautiful green colour that slowly poisoned you and your loved ones as you enjoyed the beautiful shade of green in your fine clothes and fine dining. (who needs enemies hey) The beautiful tapestries, especially in the bedroom in my photos were all hand-made with love and care by women from Stafford who, I was told have all since now passed on, taking their excellent skills with them. It is free to visit. There is a gift shop on the ground floor that takes both cash and card payment. Please be generous and buy stuff and make a donation, don't worry if you don't have cash, they do take a card payment. 😎 There are toilets however there is no disabled access to the building given its age and composition
Ethel W — Google review
The high house is amazing, completely free to enter and the mouse trail is so much fun to complete. The staff are amazing and knowledgeable. Would 100 percent recommend.

Victoria Park is a lovely park located in Stafford that features a river, gardens, bird aviary, and play area. The park is also home to a cafe and several bridges.
The park is truly magnificent, with a river flowing through its center, where swans glide gracefully and ducks swim peacefully. The sunlight reflecting on the water creates a beautiful scene, while the walking paths and benches along the riverbank invite you to pause and take it all in. Surrounded by lush greenery, trees, and colorful flowers, the garden’s design is thoughtfully crafted for comfort. It’s the perfect place to breathe fresh air, unwind, and enjoy a peaceful walk.
Hatice G — Google review
I have never travelled to Stafford by train before, but as you leave the station you have Victoria Park right infront of you. What a gorgeous gem. The landscaping is stunning, with beautiful beds of flowers with vibrant colours. There is a band stand, a river with ducks and swans, thatched buildings, lovely bridges and a bowling green. It was a sunny day and the club were out bowling, such a great sight to watch. Next to the green were two aviaries with doves, golden pheasant, budgies, etc. Such a lovely atmosphere and buzz about the park. There was also a cafe, which appeared very popular. So lovely to see a well manicured park, with the grass cut to protection. Such a treat to walk through.
Lisa G — Google review
It's really stunning scenery, so clean, vast, and green. A great place to stretch your legs after a long train journey or enjoy the weather on a summers day.
Mr P — Google review
Lovely park, especially the greenhouse. Was a great place to visit on a sunny afternoon
Manjusha K — Google review
Truly impressed by this park! It’s rare to come across such a beautifully maintained space. The moment I stepped out of the train station, I was greeted by a vibrant, colorful flower lawn - it made me fall in love with Stafford right away. The park is incredibly clean, and the flowers and grass are so well cared for. I was genuinely amazed by the whole scene. There’s also a café inside the park, and even some charming bird aviaries filled with tiny, adorable birds. I didn’t expect to visit such a lovely park - it was a delightful surprise and left a lasting impression!

Went tonight to see Hello Again ( Neil Diamond). We booked the star package as it was a special occasion and we had a fabulous time. The two Maisie’s looked after us brilliantly. Would highly recommend it. Show was excellent too. All in all a great night out.

Absolutely fabulous. Came here to watch the Dennis Taylor/ Steve Davis black ball final. Brilliant Theatre with very polite attentive staff. Wouldn't hesitate to book another show

We spent a lot of time (and money!!) Visiting the gatehouse and the staff are always so friendly and helpful. The theatre is comfy and warm, clear vision from every seat. Gatehouse do so much for the community too! I was in sgyt and now my daughter is too, so its a lovely place to visit. Nice coffee too! X

March 5th 2025 Another remarkable performance from Karl Loxley tonight . A full house were thoroughly entertained. He has certainly done well for himself since being on the Voice. As always the staff at this venue are excellent. There is a bar area if you fancy a tipple. Street parking is available, which is good 👍
Peter S — Google review
Did not have a chance to attend any play but the list looks very impressive!
Nazar — Google review
After many years hi by to the gatehouse I've decided to no longer attend this once great venue, why you may ask. Il enlighten you the Gatehouse for generations was a place where plays and shows of all kind ls had taken place. A place that different opinions could be freely expressed. But recently I was informed that Katie Hopkins show was cancelled. This is nothing more than a crime of freedom of speech. Shakespeare's history plays often reflect the political and social concerns of his time, many found him offensive should we ban these plays next .. no . Il take my monies else where in future

Historical landmark
Shugborough Hall, located in Milford near Stafford, is a historic working estate under the care of the National Trust. The property offers plenty to do, including a 15-minute walk from the car park to the main house. Visitors can explore the well-maintained gardens, children's play area, and farm area before reaching the picturesque mansion. Additionally, there are opportunities for scenic walks through the extensive grounds that extend down to Essex Bridge and along the canal to Great Haywood cliffs.
A wonderful afternoon out at Shugborough Hall, so much to see and do. As it’s the summer holidays they had more fun and games for children too! Plenty of parking and the usual National Trust facilities including a cafe. The house is interesting to look round, with the downstairs telling the story of George and Thomas Anson, while the upstairs houses the preserved apartment of the Patrick Lichfield the famous royal photographer. The gardens and grounds are big enough to keep you busy for a few hours and the flower gardens at amazing.
Andrew B — Google review
Shugborough Hall is a place well worth a visit. It is a National Trust site located in a large estate in rural Staffordshire. There is plenty to see and do for Adults and children alike. On a nice day there are some very pleasant walks that you can do, as well as visit the house. There is a gift shop, toilets and tea room/restaurant close by. The Hall and all of its history is quite fascinating. As I like my photography I loved seeing some of Lord Lichfield's cameras and equipment, as well as the many photographs mounted on the walls. Some are of famous faces that you will recognise, and some of the Royal Family over various years. There are also events put on throughout the year. I have visited twice in December to see the spectacular display of Christmas Trees. They differ every year, and sometimes follow a theme. They also put on a light show display in December. I haven't seen this yet, but do plan on it this year. I have heard it is very impressive.
Rob C — Google review
Wonderful national trust free entry day. Blessed with fine sunshine. Greeted by 2 very helpful members who explained the map. Added onto planned guided visit to new garden at 2pm. This proved really good with the gardener being very interesting. Volunteers in house brilliant, informative and friendly despite impromptu fire alarm, they were unflappable. Beautiful grounds, gardens and all with our rescue dog Maddie. (She stayed in the car whilst we went inside house). Just had such a lovely relaxing day. Thank you 😊
Mim — Google review
Lovely day out at Shugborough - the staff are 10/10 and gave brilliant service. The gentleman and lady upstairs in Patrick Lichfield’s apartments on Saturday were brilliant, friendly and knowledgeable and great help. The girl working the ice cream counter near the mansion tea room (but not inside the tea room) was amazing, really helped us with our intolerance while ordering an ice cream, super friendly to all customers in front of us and gave exceptional service to us with our celiac dietary needs. It’s a shame a lot of Shugborough has shut since the national trust took ownership, but still has lovely grounds on a sunny day.
Georgie — Google review
Shugborough is simply beautiful whether you're visiting the house or just walking the grounds. Me and my fiance visit often as we just love walking our dog through the grounds and picking up a coffee at the tea room. Very friendly staff upon entry, plenty of info boards explaining future plans, the house is gorgeous inside and out with lots to see. Staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable with the history of the the house. It's just a fab place to visit.
Nicola E — Google review
First visit today and what a fantastic place! We decided to join as family members and it was well worth it. The grounds, gardens and mansion are all beautifully kept — full of history and charm. The tea rooms were excellent too, perfect stop for an autumn treat. Even during October half term it never felt crowded; plenty of parking and so much space to explore that you’d hardly notice how busy it actually was. A brilliant family day out — we’ll definitely be back! – O’Toole UK | Keeping it real, one visit at a time.
O'Toole U — Google review
Had a wonderful day, strolling around the gardens and small walk plus a joy to hear so much history from the volunteers in the hall. The cafe was reasonably priced with good food and coffee.
Estee G — Google review
Amazing place the mansion has lots of things to admire the gardens spectacular iff your going with your family pack up for the day and spend a full day exploring this huge place its a little pricey so best to make it a day and enjoy or the other option join the national trust and visit some of there amazing places

Boscobel House and The Royal Oak

Mentioned on

Heritage building
Sights & Landmarks
Boscobel House and The Royal Oak is a historic site with a 1632 timber-framed lodge that was originally a farmhouse converted into a hunting lodge. It has significant ties to the shelter of Catholics during times of persecution. The property features interactive tours, including a priest hole where Charles II hid, and offers insights into its history by candlelight. This English Heritage property played a role in Charles II's escape from England after the Battle of Worcester, providing shelter for the future king.
I spent a most enjoyable here. Whilst it is not a very large house, there are so many interesting items to see and I learnt so much about the history of the site from the knowledgeable and friendly staff. The Royal Oak is near to the site, and also, it is possible to walk to the ruins of the White Lady Priory, which is about a mile away. It is a very pleasant walk with lovely views
Paul H — Google review
A nice little place, steeped in history, and a great spot to while away a couple of hours. Children love the grounds, house and animals. Food is a little pricey so I'd take a picnic, but good that they're dog friendly.
Ian G — Google review
A good sized property in a (surprisingly) lovely area not too far outside of Wolverhampton... Easy access from the A5, it has a decent car park. Some interesting history about King Charles staying there for a couple of days, not exactly thrilling but I guess you had to be there... To be honest, they don't try to overload you with "facts" but there are quite a few information boards to read around the place. Everyone we met were friendly and enthusiastic about the attraction. Small tearoom with all the usual offerings, prices what you expect, but the coffee was nice and the scones looked fresh. Despite the weather not being the best, we had a walk down to the Priory, which took about 20 minutes, not a lot to see, but a decent walk over the fields looking over the Shropshire countryside. In all, we spent a pleasant 4 hours there.
Brian M — Google review
Car parking is simple. Site is small. Cafe does not appear to have any choices for vegan on its very limited menu. Beware wasps! The imaginative candles for interactive interpretations in rooms was hit and miss. Lots of planned updates for the grounds.
Mary F — Google review
Lovely place full of history. Fab staff, very helpful. Cafe was great. We also walked down to the white ladies priory from here too.
Kat P — Google review
A great place to visit. The house and gardens are very interesting. We also walked down to the ruined abbey which is worth a quick visit.

Great place to visit. Grounds, and house, are stunning. Staff/volunteers are helpful and friendly. White Lady Priory just a short walk away. Definately worth a visit.

Fantastic place , the children 4 , 5 , and 6 years old thoroughly enjoyed the interactive walk around of the old house. The youngest got a little scared when Cromwell's men began knocking the door, during the interactive tour. wonderfull to step back in time to such a prominent point of British history and so we'll preserved. Great adventure park too for the little one's.

Nestled in the charming town of Eccleshall, Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre is a delightful sanctuary dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of over 30 species of exotic animals and birds of prey. This registered charity operates primarily on donations, making every visit impactful for the well-being of its residents. Here, you can encounter an array of fascinating creatures including primates, reptiles, raccoons, pot-bellied pigs, and even a singing dog from New Guinea!
For £5 an adult a great afternoon out. What makes this place special is every enclosure has details of how the animal came to stay with them with the majority of them being rescues. If taking the kids, there's a play area next to the wildlife centre with a ride on miniature train too. The garden centre it's attached to is good too where you can get a drink and bite to eat.

Highly recommend a visit here if you love wildlife and/or have children. Absolute bargain at only £5 per adult to enter! Spent over 3hrs here on a sunny bank holiday weekend. Very impressed at the enclosures and the way the animals are obviously cared for extremely well by the volunteers. The bird flying demonstration was great, informative and entertaining (although commentary was a little difficult to hear at times due to crackly microphones) with one owl walking around the benches where we sitting! Will definitely visit again in future 😃

Amerton Railway is a charming 2ft gauge line located in the picturesque Staffordshire countryside, adjacent to the popular Amerton Working Farm. Visitors can enjoy a ride behind Isabel, an iconic locomotive that has been lovingly restored. The knowledgeable guide, Thomas, offers tours of the engine sheds where various locomotives owned by members of Amerton are showcased. The railway hosts special events such as Christmas Eve celebrations with Santa and birthday songs for young passengers.
When visiting family in Stone, Amerton Railway has became a regular destination for the wee train enthusiast. The volunteers on site are great & beyond a ride on the railway. The wee one has had a tour of the workshop & a trip on the engines footplate. Well worth a visit & extremely reasonably priced

An absolutely delightful little railway. Your ticket gets you two round trips and is exceedingly great value. Just £6 for me and my 2 daughters (4 and 1). The guard was even kind enough to give us a look in the shed. This is was our third visit and we definitely will return. Our previous visit had been for their santa special which again was amazing value

Brilliant railway ride - my 4 year old absolutely loved it and such good value for money. He also really enjoyed the little museum afterwards which had train track to build and models to see. Everyone was really friendly! We’ll definitely be visiting again
Georgie P — Google review
Narrow gauge steam trains, friendly people, nice countryside, it's a lot of fun! 👍
Michael C — Google review
Following the ride behind Isabel, the loco that spent quite a few years mounted on a plinth outside Stafford Station and now back in steam, I was invited for a tour around the engine sheds which was gladly accepted. Thomas, my very knowledgable guide, showed me several locos owned by various members of Amerton plus an old acquaintance. Sitting in the corner of one of the sheds was the 0-4-0 Trentham Express loco awaiting repair. Many years ago, before the railway was removed from service at Trentham Gardens, I worked on the very same locos' engine. Hopefully it will be back in service soon. I managed to snap a few pictures of Isabel and the locos on 'shed' which should give some idea of the railway. Overall, a pleasant visit on a Sunday and the rain mainly stayed away. With very helpful staff members, it's well worth a visit, especially if looking for something to entertain the kids and plenty for them to do on other parts of the centre as well.
Andrew F — Google review
A highly recommended experience for young and old alike, the Amerton Railway runs through delightful countryside in a quiet corner of North Staffordshire. Steam locomotives are usually hauling trains on Sundays, with diesels on Saturdays. Engine shed tours can be arranged by request throughout the day. The journey itself takes passengers down past Amerton Pond and the Industrial Railway, passing a replica drift mine, with a pleasing sweep of hills to the left, and the ruins of Chartley Castle shrouded in trees on the horizon. Chartley Halt is the intermediate station, with a pleasant picnic area where one can relax and watch the trains and look out for the abundance of wildlife which includes green woodpecker, yellowhammer and little egret, as well as fieldfares in the later months. The journey continues from Chartley, following Amerton Brook, the line slinking through the tall mature trees and open farmland, passing the Pumpkin field, twice crossing the brook before swinging right and back into Amerton station. The 12 minute ride is just right for small children, and there is an I-Spy Challenge sheet available in the ticket office, with lots of interesting things to see on the journey, including crocodiles, butterflies, a windmill, a large bat, a snake, even a ticket office cat. Adults, like me for example, find the I-Spy rather good too! The ticket office has a range of souvenir items for sale including books and postcards. Several old steam locomotives can be seen at Amerton, including Isabel, an engine built at Bagnalls Works in Stafford 125 years ago. The Amerton Railway was built as a permanent home for Isabel, and a delightful train ride with her is like a holiday to many, away from the stress of life, with the gentle journey through rural Staffordshire, the chuffing and clanking of the locomotive, the panoramic views from the carriages, the echo of the whistle, the smell of steam, and the picture postcard scenery, one feels alive and content with life. The friendly staff are all volunteers, and the railway has earned the Queen's Award For Voluntary Service in 2021. Highly recommended.

Have now completed all three games in this building, and enjoyed each one very much. Each room is very different in its theme and the set and props are all really well made and interesting. The puzzles all have very logical and satisfying solutions, and some cool devices that you get to operate. I'd highly recommend the jungle temple room to anyone after a "challenging" room. Gutted that we've finished all three, but would definitely return for any room updates in the future!

Really good escape! Would totally recommend it. Luke was very helpful! We did temple of shadows, which is classified as hard. It was just 2 of us, but we've managed to escape. It was really fun and interesting! Thank you!
Marina V — Google review
I have been to a few escape rooms around the country and I can honestly say the temple of shadows is the best escape room I have ever done. This is based off immersion, quality of room itself, and the puzzles. It was amazing that there were so few padlocks it made it so much more fun! I can't wait to come back and try the other rooms. I'd give 6 out of 5 if could! If you are unsure if which escape rooms to try definitely pick escape nation you won't regret it.
Charlotte M — Google review
My boyfriend and I have done many escape rooms, and Escape Nation has our highest recommendations. We have tackled all of their current rooms - The Citadel, The Temple of Shadows, and Incognito’s Lair. Each of these is extremely interactive, having not just the locks but some puzzles to crack. If you’re like us and love puzzles, then you will love Escape Nation’s rooms.
Taylor L — Google review
Great fun with very friendly staff. This is the first escape room I’ve done and I really recommend it. They have two different escape rooms, we did the space themed one Citadel. it was very good fun, we managed to get out with only 36 seconds to spare. You definitely need team work 👍

We've completed a few escape rooms around but The Citadel was the first with Escape Nation Stafford. Very enjoyable and interactive. The staff member was very friendly. Enjoyable experience overall and will be returning for the other rooms

Me and two others went one afternoon and beat the citadel! It was so fun and the staff were really helpful and friendly! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something to do in Stafford with friends! 🤗

Beautiful family park. Steep slope to come down to the playing area but it has a safe ramp for you to access the level. Good size car park and toilet facilities to use.
Darcey L — Google review
Great for children as the play area has lots of variety. You can take dogs but not a very big area, you can walk around it in 20 minutes. There are toilets, but not the nicest, rather smelly, apparently the gents was terrible. Ice cream van was in the car park. Parking is free.
Gaynor W — Google review
Great playground and park, with plenty of space for a picnic and to play with the children. We were able to find shade with the little one and get ice-cream from the ice cream truck in the car park. For us it's a bit of a drive but we usually spend there a good few hours so definitely worth it.

Absolutely amazing place for the whole family. It has got toddler attractions, kids attractions, wheelchair carrousel, teenage area, dog field right next to it, outdoor gym, tennis court, skate park and all within a picturesque setting!

Our first experience here today and it was absolutely wonderful! Came in on a whim, was seated by a gentleman who took no time to see to us! The food was FAB, so so nice! We had kerry as our server, honestly she was an absolute joy to be around and attended to our every need(she says her first shift but seemed like her 100th)! Will definitely be coming again😃

Nice chef and brewer pub has really nice traditional theme with the decor, very cosy and good atmosphere, I had the belly pork which was lovely people with me had the traditional burger which should have come with onion rings, the waitress failed to mention they had ran out of onion rings and there wasn't an offer of any alternative, however when pressed on an alternative some garlic bread slices were brought, we all had the salted caramel sundae which was nice but have had better in other chef and brewer establishments, service took a long time to bring our food and drinks though, with a couple of another table waiting for an hour and a half for there food, needless to say they were less than impressed, all in all not a bad experience but could have been better

I came in with my cousin because the steak here is just so good. It’s stunning and we sat outside under the pergola. The food came quick and looked amazing. My chips were not cooked properly and were solid which was a shame and I did return them but I knew I wasn’t going to eat them anyway as my plate was returned with my steak and salad whilst I waited for fresh chips and I can’t eat in that kind of way lol. Regardless the staff were apologetic and asked if I wanted to complain but I said no as the food has never been bad from here before and the steak was still amazing and the salad hence still giving 5 stars. Drinks are lush too love the range of gin available. 100% recommend

Great food backed up by fantastic service! Dropped in mid week for evening meal (staying in hotel next door). Gourmet burger highly recommended! All explains why place was rammed & buzzing!

Absolutely amazing food with a friendly atmosphere, my hotel’s restaurant was closed for a refit but with a short walk over the road I found this place and it was very much worth it!! I’m here for 4 days and I will definitely be back!

Lovely last minute meal out , I had the pork belly off the seasonal menu , im normally fussy with the meat but this was spot on. My husband had the mixed grill, he didnt send anything back for being cold which is great in itself but felt everything was slightly overseasond with pepper , we stayed for pudding which went down lovely , staff were friendly and didnt leave us waiting

We stopped in while driving from Sussex to Glasgow at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon. This was our first time here - we have tried in the past to no avail as this place is usually very booked up! Ray sat us in the bar as they had a few large bookings on the way in. This was definitely perfect - we only needed an hour max as want to get on the road again. We ordered the chicken burger and two steak sandwiches. Our meal was delicious. Personally I’d highly recommend that steak sandwich! Just a quick and gorgeous meal, but a perfect little stop gap to fill some empty tummies. Really appreciated the squeeze in, considering how busy they were scheduled to be!
Lisa C — Google review
We booked a table during a really busy event time. Because of this we had low expectations that we would have good service, a tasty meal and no long waits. To our surprise and satisfaction, the pub dealt with the extra customers really well. The service was excellent, we didn't have to wait long for our meal and it was all beautifully cooked. Very impressive. This place is awesome for a get together and dinner.

Perfect little pub. Served by Donna and Lucy, excellent service. Food was on point, atmosphere was quiet but for a Monday night was expected.
Jacob J — Google review
Went to the barley mow as a change from catch corner. The play area is great, I think it is overall much better condition and the kids loved it. Staff were pleasant and the food was nice. Although one of the main disappointments is they have added a time limit onto the wacky warehouse. When you have a family purchasing food and drinks along with the wacky entrance fee this is unacceptable, especially when it isnt busy.
Mike B — Google review
Standard faire except this was sirloin beef. Starting with pricing (Autumn 2025) meal ~£17 worth ~£13. Drinks are pretty much average price. Quality is what matters to everyone. Good serving size for really hungry men. This made me consider that they should be offering a pensioner portion @60% of the size and price! Food was faintly warm on arrival. Gravy was nice & thick. Draught Cola was a little flat but cold. Overall, this is a 3.5 star place but their attention for people with impairments is worth a 🌟 bonus. Acid test: would I bring a date here? Yes. Would I do an important business deal here? No. Bring the little family. Unless you're feeling flush, any more than 5 is going to melt that bank card from Dixon of money leaving the account.

A lovely experience from beginning to end. Hadn't visited the Barley Mow in a long time and received a wonderful welcome and exceptional service. Enjoyed a superb breakfast with a friend and the food was beautifully prepared and served in good time. A special mention for Donna who dealt with us throughout. She was cheerful, always smiling and very efficient - service how it should be but so often isn't these days - she was a real breath of fresh air. Will definitely be back again next week!!

Thanks to the great chef(s) that provided our delicious food., and thank you girls for a delightful meal time. We also need to involve Kate as she served is a little. A great welcome with a lovely atmosphere. Kate was very welcoming, gave us extra time to look over the menu and told us the specials and what was running low. Kate was very attentive, popping over regularly to see if everything was OK and if we required any more drinks etc. Kate was polite, friendly, chatty and always had a lovely smile. She was very helpful and went out of her way to make sure we had a good evening. We had the slow cooked lamb and it was absolutely gorgeous, cooked to perfection. Followed by toffee apple crumble with clotted cream ice-cream. Seven stars is always in my top 3 picks for eating out. With it's beautiful decor, helpful & friendly staff and a variety of tasty food, you cannot beat this restaurant for an enjoyable evening. Thank you again Kate for being amazing. We look forward to coming again soon.

Outside has lots of seating area and the main restaurant is gorgeous. The staff who were assigned to us were friendly, polite, and had a big smile all the time. I was really impressed with the entire service and food. Thank you.

We came for lunch today as a belated birthday meal. Everything was brilliant. Enjoyed my time at the Post House Bar and Grill. Went for Sunday lunch and it was very very nice. A bit more a fancy Sunday lunch for sure but it was certainly just as tasty. Portion sizes are big and very filling may cost a bit more but you for sure get your moneys worth. The place is very nicely decorated and the staff seemed friendly and the food came very quick albeit could have been a little warmer. The cocktail selection was also good and they were very nice.

The menu changes fairly often here so there's always something new to choose which is nice. This is such a delightful place, I highly recommend it. The staff are so lovely, kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is charming and the food is really good. You can see they serve their food with pride and they make it a little extra special- for example, they do a kids pizza meal and they let the children make their own pizza doing the toppings, putting the cheese on, etc. The kids ice cream also came with toppings as well - and it just was delightful, no other word for it! The manager came by to check on us before we left and he discovered we were on a road trip and it was our first time there and he kindly boxed us up some complimentary treats for the rest of our drive. Everything here was 10 out 10 and look forward to one day returning.

If ever you visit Stafford, The Soup Kitchen is a must. It is tucked away in a side street of beautiful buildings. The Soup Kitchen is a gorgeous timber framed building with a beautiful exterior. Inside is amazing, quirky and full of charm. The building opens up like a tardis with seating areas to the left and right, which appears to go on forever. The building is very clean, well decorated and in keeping with the age of the property. You are greeted with a warm welcome and shown to a table. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and very professional. Traditional customer service. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes. Food is well presented and tastes delicious. You are not rushed or interrupted, but there is staff on hand should you want another drink. Such a lovely atmosphere and very busy, as it was lunchtime. We didn't book as it was a spur of the moment idea, but still got a table. A really enjoyable visit and one we shall repeat. Thank you to all the staff, you were amazing.

We have been to many places, but this visit to The Soup Kitchen in Stafford just won my heart, right from when we walked in until the time we left. Our visit to Stafford was extremely unplanned, and since we live in North Wales, we wouldn't have any excuse to come to Stafford. But, we did this time for a friend, that's a long story maybe some other day. But here we are in Stafford, finding a place to eat before we go back to North Wales and our friend found this poster outside Stafford railway station about a 16th century eatery called Soup Kitchen. So we headed to Soup kitchen, which was 5-7 mins walk from the station. As soon as we arrived we were greeted at the door and we were taken to our tables and every staff we met along the way greeted us! We ordered our food, and the service was impeccable, so was the food quality. Extremely friendly and welcoming place and I would recommend anyone in and around Stafford to go there atleast once if you haven't already. We certainly will if we go near Stafford.

6 of us for Sunday lunch. Food epic, service far from. Bar & kitchen staff stood near our table chatting very loudly and vividly about how someone died, how bored they are and who finishes their shift when. Every desert we had to take for a spoon separately with each one, they were obvs too busy nattering. Better waiting / bar staff on the day & I’d give it 5* food epic, location fab. Staff let it down on the day sadly, & I would expect better when paying a bill over £200+
All T — Google review
I’ve wanted to visit The Dog and Doublet for a while — whenever we passed it looked so lovely with its big glass windows — but when we visited in August I was really shocked by how poor the food was on the day. Sadly, it was one of the worst Sunday roasts I’ve experienced. A couple at the table next to us, who’d been gifted a three-course meal, were audibly complaining about every course — which didn’t make for the nicest atmosphere, but unfortunately, we found ourselves agreeing. The beef was slimy and unappetising, the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were heavy and oily, the vegetables all had an unpleasant aftertaste — as though they’d been cooked in old oil. The carrots, in particular, had an acrid, star-anise-like flavour that completely overpowered the plate. One diner in our group of 3 (visiting family) ate so little that their meal was removed from the bill and I also barely touched mine. The burger was fine — far better than the roasts — but nothing amazing. I really hope it was just a bad day in the kitchen, but for the price we paid for a meal we didn’t enjoy, it’s not something an establishment can afford to repeat. I’m not sure we’d return and risk the same experience again.

Called in to break up a journey for lunch. We were shown straight to a table and offered drinks. There was a good variety on the menu including veg and vegan and the food was very good when it arrived. Pleasant staff and a nice location. Worth a detour if you're near by.

Beautiful Family restaurant. Fresh clean lovely staff, Great menue fantastic prices, fab cocktails. Special thanks to lovely Poppy and Thea fantastic customer service from start to finish. Well done girls.

Went for the pie and pudding night, absolute bargain for £8.99, you can get a pie and dessert. Had a beef and ale pie (usually £11) and caramel apple betty (usually £5). The pie was light with a thin layer of puff pastry complimented by the buttery mash. The dessert however was the true winner, the caramel wasn’t overpowering and the apple wasn’t sour, it was on point and it can only be a winner when there’s hot custard over the top! The only downside was the lack of server which wasn’t the fault of the waiters, they were understaffed meaning seating, ordering and clearing was delayed, however amazing job to 2 ladies working tonight. They were doing everything as quick and efficiently as they can as well as keeping a smile on their faces. Keep up the good work team!

Awful! Burger and chips were cold. Only a handful of chips on each plate. We all had cold food. Gravy was spilt prior to arriving at table so replaced with what looks like oil. Photos attached of the worst food at the worst pub we have ever been to. If this is £12 a meal, keep it. We complained to the manager and were told its calorie controlled portions. Amazing when they do all you can eat breakfast and Unlimited roast potatos on a roast!!! Totally unapologetic. Poor all round and the portion of peas is something else! Avoid!!!!
Mark P — Google review
For 10.99 I did think there could’ve been a few more chips especially as I’d asked for no salad or coleslaw. Staff were quite blunt and there became a queue as when waiting to be served there was no one at the bar for a while. Waited about half hour for food and had to order at the bar etc., the friends I attended with weren’t too happy. On the positive sides, there was a nice photo backdrop as you went in and blue light discount 25% as well as free parking and the food was genuinely nice but we didn’t stay for dessert.

Positives- -staff are super friendly And the Price was okay due to the bill coming to £130 for 11 people ( food ) Negatives Super Super Low quality food! ( My boy had a kids pizza and it looked like the 50p one from asda ( wish I took a picture) My burger was around £12.99 and was meant to be there " big burger " ( see photo for what I got lol) worst burger iv had in years and I was so hungry after I left. To put it into context we  Went for a meal with 11 people and 2 out of the 11  said they enjoyed there meals. The rest all said the same thing "food quality is low and the portion sizes were terrible" If it wasn't for the staff I would of gone 1 star but it's definitely the worst food I've had in years! Quick fix - In my eyes if the food quality is that low they have to go  quantity  so people won't leave feeling unsatisfied.

Food was good apart from chicken burnt on the outside on my chicken and rib combo plus if you have the pawns for starters then leave the stale bread off Coffee and tea service was nice Some staff were nice but shame about one not getting off here phone to help

The Mill at Worston

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Nestled in a historic 200-year-old mill, The Mill at Worston is a delightful country pub and restaurant that offers an inviting atmosphere steeped in charm. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. Known for its exceptional Sunday carvery, guests rave about the perfectly cooked local meats and fresh seasonal vegetables, complemented by delicious Yorkshire puddings.
Stopped in for a drink on the way home from a family day out. Got a lovely spot in the beer garden while the sun was shining. The beer garden is lovely, lots of benches but spaced enough apart so you don't feel on top of others eating. There are lots of flowers and trees plus a river flowing by, making it a lovely location to enjoy a drink! We loved our spot so much we decided to stay for a meal. The food was lovely, a little more expensive than we would normally pay but you could tell the quality from your average pub meal. Me and my son had the mill burger which was served which some of the nicest chips I've had in a long time. We were all full up and all enjoyed it very much. If I hadn't of been driving, I could of happily stayed and had a few pints. The service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely stop by again soon!

I had heard from friends that this was a really nice place for food. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised by the whole look of the place. Very modern with a traditional feel to the decor and surroundings. The 2 ladies that were working were both friendly and efficient. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and my husband ordered the 12ox Gammon. The atmosphere was quite quiet as we were in between lunch and dinner. The food arrived and we were offered sauces etc.The food was correct, as ordered but My burger was very dry and crumbly. The 'handcut chips' were very dry, hard in places and really quite chewy. My husbands Gammon was good and the pineapple Chutney was different but nice. My husband was also not impressed with the chips. I ate 3/4 of the burger and we asked for a takeaway box for the remaining chips. We ordered a dessert in the hope that it would redeem itself. We both ordered the lemon meringue sundae. It arrived quite quickly and was very refreshing. There was no detail regarding to what was in the sundae but we think it was lemon sorbet with some sort of cold custard/cream. Then bits of meringue crumbled onto the top. It was very nice but if were really being picky it could have done with something like lemon sauce drizzled over the top. The bill was approx £50 which was a bit steep considering the quality. All in all a lovely place for a drink outside in the summer but as for food we won't be returning unless we hear it has improved. Maybe it was a fluke inbetween services experience who knows but 1st impressions last.

We chose this restaurant to celebrate our 6-year wedding anniversary, but sadly, the evening fell far short of expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service felt disorganised and inattentive. We waited at the bar area for several minutes, trying to catch the attention of any staff member. Eventually, someone approached and asked for our booking. We gave our name but had to repeat it, as there seemed to be confusion. After repeating our details, a woman appeared next to the staff member. We assumed she was a manager. She quietly asked the same member of staff, “Is this within our booking?” The staff member confirmed, “Yes, it’s the wedding anniversary booking.” Once seated, we were then handed the Sunday menu, which offered very limited options. I asked for the beef Wellington, only to be told it wasn’t available on Sundays. This was particularly frustrating because the beef Wellington was clearly displayed on the menu board right next to the bar. Surely, if the restaurant doesn’t serve it on Sundays, it shouldn’t be shown on the menu board. Between us, we ordered two starters, two mains, a pint of ale, a half of ale, and a glass of wine. The £9 charge for the glass of wine was noticeably higher than average, which came as a shock when we received the bill. After finishing our starters, a different waiter brought over dessert menus—even though we were still waiting for our mains. It took over half an hour for them to arrive. Unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for the delays. The gammon was extremely salty, the chips were overly greasy, and the beef burger arrived so hot it felt like it had been microwaved. For a bill totalling over £65, the quality simply wasn’t there. Overall, what should have been a special evening turned out to be a disappointing experience. We left feeling let down by both the service and the food.

This was our second time visiting The Mill on a Sunday for their carvery—previously as a family group, this time as a couple, and it didn’t disappoint. The meat is always perfectly cooked, the vegetable selection is fresh and seasonal and the Yorkshire puddings are lovely. (Far superior to other establishments serving boiled veg and shop bought yorkies). The service flows well from carving to choosing your own sides and the table service for drinks is polite and attentive. The setting is beautiful—both the building and gardens—and we enjoyed a pre-meal drink in the garden. The dining area feels smart and spacious. One of our favourite spots for a roast dinner at a great price!

Good food and very nice atmosphere. Interesting to read the history of the mill. Garden looks nice but it was raining so we didn’t explore.

Met here with my wife and three friends , we were escorted to our table ,.lots of room and big comfy seats , straight away we were handed out our menus and asked what drinks we wanted , the young lady taking our orders through the night was super friendly and did her job very well right to the end . The food was amazing I'm not going to lie but I was expecting sub normal quality but it was really tasty .. we had three courses and all of us were happy. Hats off to the chef ! And to the young lady that served us you were wonderful. Thank you . Give these guys a try if you had the service we had tonight you won't be disappointed .

I went here as we wanted to go for food and couldn’t think of anywhere. I was told the food wasn’t good but we went anyway. Glad we did as it was actually nice. The kids portion was rather stingy on the chips but we did ask for more and they topped them up with no qualms. I feel like the adults portions are a very good size. The drinks were also good. The staff were all lovely and friendly also very cheerful which I always like

Went to the catch corner last minute after being out with the kids for the day so popped in on our way home and I have to say myself and friend both agreed this was probably one of the best Greene kings we have been. Very clean and food was nice and fresh. Kids food appeared to me nice was hot and fresh and they really enjoyed it. Becci was our server and she was really nice and helpful. We even had table service which I didn’t believe was a thing in these types of pubs. We then went into the wacky after which was also clean and the lady in there was on her own but she was doing amazing keeping the place clean/tidy. All in all we were amazed.

Made a planned stop here on out journey up the country. Chose this due to its convenient location and options suitable for our party. The food was solid and tasty, nothing amazing but good pub grub. No complaints from anyone. The service was brilliant, staff were attentive and friendly. I see no particular need to go back due to the circumstances of stopping here but would happily do so if needed to in future.

We went in as we were staying at the hotel opposite. As soon as we walked in we felt welcome by the greeter. Our waitress Hannah was great. The food came out quick & always had topped up drinks. We had the steak & battered fish, good value for money. The quiz was on too, we had a laugh joining in. Definitely be back again if we are in the area.

Come here today... The service was great. Starter was out in a short while. Mains was exactly 15 minutes after. As you can see it was well presented. I didn't really eat the curry however due to my taste not really liking it as I normally have tikka masala. The coke actually tasted nice and not flat. Over all got to say I was well impressed coming here today. They checked if I was happy with the food and was ever so polite and professional.

First time visit for afternoon tea. Food was varied and high quality. We loved the pink and blue crockery and our table was all laid out for us when we arrived. Becca, our waitress, was v professional - in fact, we received a warm welcome from all the staff we met. 5 stars for presentation and value.

Stayed overnight and had dinner/drinks. Room was ok. Old building which is beautiful. Good was really good, staff were friendly, eventually. However, hardly slept because it was so noisy outside, the room faces the high street, no earplugs provided, admission that their rooms aren’t free from noise. Fine. Told them we were leaving early in the booking and wouldn’t be using the breakfast. It could have been so well prepared but it was a brown bag which had sat in a fridge overnight with a few bits in clingfilm. It just needed to be a juice, yogurt and fruit. Not hard.

Awful food and very strange service. Requested 2 gluten free meals and the woman at the till asked me “is that even gluten free?” Which wasn’t very reassuring when both guests are celiac. All 8 meals were shockingly bad, stale bread, rock hard poached eggs, burnt pancakes etc. The menu in the pub is more expensive than what is shown online currently. Half of the table was cleared and the other half was left full of dirty plates for the remainder of our visit. When booking we mentioned the new mother and newborn baby and yet we were seated on stools next to loud banging doors constantly opened by other patrons, letting wind right into the newborns face, which was strange as there were plenty of cozy side rooms with room for all 8 guests, none of these visibly reserved as I checked. One positive was the staff member we saw helping a disabled lady order her taxi / helping the lady with her bag and with chairs when the lady needed a seat. Edit to add the menu, screenshotted the day before our visit that is the original prices, meals were an extra £2-£3 per meal when we arrived and offerings were different. As seen in the screenshot this is the menu from The Swans own website, though this is now no longer visible on their site.

Airport
Liverpool John Lennon Airport is located in a city known for its rich history and cultural significance. The airport offers a convenient gateway to explore the birthplace of The Beatles and home to renowned football clubs. Visitors can enjoy a quintessential British gastropub experience at The Monro, which features a charming courtyard and an inviting atmosphere. In addition to exploring the city's vibrant arts and culture scene, travelers can indulge in diverse dining experiences, from dockside eateries to fine-dining restaurants.
Great airport! It’s a small one terminal airport so if you land there, you’re out very quickly with clear signage about how to get away. Leaving is super nice as it’s mainly Ryanair and Easyjet. There’s a Greggs before you enter the secured area and it’s quite cheap compared to after security. Security was busier than I expected for such a small airport but it was fast, highly efficient (nothing had to be taken out of the bag and barely any bags got pulled out) and everyone was courteous and friendly, very welcoming! Gates are announced close to departure which I don’t like and there’s a small waiting area with some food options in the secured area. WiFi wasn’t strong enough for me to still have it in the gate area 3 and above. Overall, really enjoyed that airport!

This is my first time flying from Liverpool airport, and I must say, it is far less stressful than a certain other airport...beginning with M! Nice, small terminal. Check in with Jet2 was quick and easy, as was security control.
Small G — Google review
Liverpool Airport is small but quite modern. If you’re feeling hungry, I’d recommend grabbing a coffee or a drink at Greggs. The bag checks are done quickly – you don’t need to take things out – and the whole security process is quite high-tech. Do arrive early though, as they tend to have fewer staff around lunchtime, so things can slow down a bit. Bring a jacket – you have to walk outside to get to the plane and it’s often quite chilly with the wind, though it doesn’t take long. Overall, my experience at Liverpool Airport has been a good one – the staff are friendly and everything runs smoothly
IGOR — Google review
Never flown from Liverpool before. It was easy to get to. The meet and greet was straightforward and easy with a short walk to the terminal. Checking in the bags and security were quick and efficient. Our plane left on time. A great experience going and coming back. So much more pleasant than the bigger airports I've used.
Laura R — Google review
Several free water refills (before and after security) would be great. Very limited options to eat or drink pre-security. If you have check-in luggage you must stay in pre-security area for several hours for any connecting flight. Apparently you can drop off your luggage 3 hours until departure time.

Great efficient airport. Much much more organised than Manchester. Simple layout. One floor check ins and exit and top floor gates. Plenty of choice. Starbucks burger king etc. Smoking area easy access. Large selection of duty free. Good security

Manchester Airport

International airport
Airport
Manchester Airport (MAN) is a bustling 3-terminal airport with national rail connections and flights to various destinations worldwide. It offers a range of facilities including shops, self-check-in kiosks, and parking spaces, although parking can be pricey. The airport provides quick check-in procedures and an array of dining and shopping options. While it may lack some staff for inquiries, the new Terminal 3 has improved convenience and reduced queues compared to other terminals.
Passport control has been massively improved since my last international trip a few years ago. The flight arrived early, we got through passport control super quick and my baggage only took 15-20 mins to show up on the carousel. Express pickup area was convenient and made it easy to get the Uber.
Baz P — Google review
It was a great Airport especially Terminal 2! The interior design was great and it was fascinating to be there. The only problem is that when I was collecting my luggage they would only send out 2-3 luggage every few minutes or so and that nearly made me miss my train! Great experience though.
Fabio S — Google review
Came on a train four hours before the flight so no rush. I had to walk to Terminal 3 but the signs were clearly displayed so it was easy to follow. Used toilets twice and although both were reasonably clean, it was smelling really bad in one of them. Waiting area after the security check was packed, so I had to wander for a few minutes to find a seat with enough personal space around me. Plenty of places to eat and drink.
Vintage K — Google review
Arrived at Manchester Airport with time to spare — parking was easy to find and clearly signed. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were helpful and polite. Security took around 20 minutes, which felt reasonable for a busy weekday morning. Once through, Terminal 2 was bright, clean, and full of decent food and coffee spots. Grabbed a quick bite and found plenty of seating near the gate. Boarding was well-organised, and staff kept things moving without fuss. Overall, a solid travel experience — efficient, comfortable, and much improved from a few years ago. Just arrive early, especially during peak times, and you’ll be fine.
Abdullah A — Google review
I've been here 4 times, and it's been a good, straightforward journey getting to and from the gates. My favourite terminal has to be T2 as it has a good variety of shops and the gates aren't too far away.
Connor C — Google review
Well what a change in Terminal 2 now the renovations are just about complete. It no longer feels like Luton airport in the 1970s. Lovely modern spacious ambience, fast efficient security, clean and tidy with a fast train link. Great shopping and eating too. What more could you ask for.
Martin F — Google review
It’s a good airport. Modern. Well appointed. Good facilities and amenities. Not much in departures before security. There is a WH Smith and a Starbucks. Protip: nowhere to sit in departures really so might not want to arrive too early. Can sit on the cement blocks outside if the weathers ok. After security the Duty Free is epic. The eatery options decent. Seating options are significantly better. Adequate. Another Protip: Boots is a really great store in my experience for travel amenities and snacks. Good variety of options and so many of the things you may be looking for at a reasonable price.
Kris T — Google review
Manchester Airport is a very smooth, very well organised airport. Being one of the busiest airports in the UK, it's absolutely amazing. There's a lot of car parking by the airport and it's a very affordable price. Manchester Airport has a humongous selection, and 3 terminals make it spread out, and the ATC knows how to make sure the runways are running smoothly. Absolutely amazing airport, and I would highly recommend it. It's also got a great planespotting place with a British Airways Concorde on show!. P.S. : The planespotting area costs £5 for entry, but it's worth it.

Birmingham Airport

International airport
Airport
Birmingham Airport, established in the 1980s, boasts strong local and long-distance bus connections as well as its own train station. It is conveniently located in the heart of Birmingham. The area offers a variety of family-friendly activities including children's clubs, play areas, museums, nature spots, and entertainment venues. Additionally, there are numerous dining options such as Dirty Martini which provides a cozy atmosphere and serves food along with an extensive selection of liquors.
Hello pretty much, I had a great experience taking my flight from Birmingham airport to Perpignan yesterday ! I arrived at the airport around 11:30am and my flight was at 1:40pm. I never came to this airport before but I didn’t struggle at all to find where I had to go for the departures place. The security was easy to find and everyone was pretty kind with me there, explaining everything and helping me whenever I needed. After security, waiting for my plane I had access to a huge commercial place. We can buy a lot of different things you can see on the photos and we can eat pretty much everything. Such a good idea ! I had to wait 1 hour and a half but it was so quick with all of these things to wait. Thank you Birmingham and United Kingdom for this beautiful Airport ✈️🛩️

Great place. Perfectly located airport. 15 minutes and I am there. No traffic. Great parking. Great short term pick up/drop off zone. After renovation - looks amazing. Very good security check system. Even when it looks that it is a looooooot of people you go smoothly. Perfect for travellers who are annoyed with queues. After renovation I have never bought fast track in this airport

This was a great airport to fly out from, connected with the train station by a people mover cable car type system! Electronic departure boards and boarding gate signage is frequent to help navigate around, water refillable points can be found across the airport too. Seating is comfy for sitting back on or some for lying down, toilets are kept clean themselves. Designs like the pattern on the wall showing a steam train running to the end are innovative and queuing system for the flight was efficient where we walked straight there, security went fine although we were told not to take pictures in the baggage area maybe due to the possibility of any breaches.

I recently traveled through Birmingham Airport from Abu Dhabi via Istanbul. As a tourist and other nationality they asked some questions about travel purposes, return dates, stay locations and it was easy for me. Too slow and rush at emigration, baggage handling was fast, trolly required to pay, public transportation are available. The ticket rate was high if compared with Heathrow.
Abdulsalam P — Google review
Birmingham Airport prioritizes function over flair. The facilities are small and dated, with minimal shopping and dining options. It serves its primary purpose-getting you on your flight-but don't expect anything more.
Joti C — Google review
Very low quality, one of the worst in the UK. Very slow services. After 23:30, no information desk. After 24:00 no transportation to the train station until the morning. My flight was delayed so I missed the train and I spent all night at the airport. No place to sit apart from the floor. Toilets filthy. No signs to find access to the coach.
James D — Google review
I knew Birmingham airport wouldn't be the best, but today i had the absolute worst experience. The hall for the bag drop Was never show, it said zone the entire time, a letter was never given. Staff couldn't help me either, I was told to just wait. After touring all zones for the 3rd time one display had changed to the airline I needed. Already running late bc of the earlier matter I made mh way to security. The airport website clearly stated liquids up to 2l would be fine. Still my bag had to be inspected further. Turns out liquids up to 2l are alright but need to be tested individually. Would be good to communicate that in advance to plan in the time. The toilets are run down. The doors barely close, so someone walked in on me. Furthermore a hook would be nice so handbags dont have to be left on the floor. Overall I would avoid Birmingham Airport whenever I can.
Jogo — Google review
I recently flew through Birmingham Airport (BHX) in the UK and had a mixed experience. On one hand, it’s conveniently located and user‑friendly in certain aspects, but on the other hand there were a few issues worth noting. What I liked: The airport is relatively easy to navigate with a single terminal layout, which made finding check‑in, security and my gate more straightforward than at some larger UK hubs. Its rail‑link is strong according to recent independent surveys, making it a good option for travelers using public transport. International Airport Review During my visit, staff at check‑in were courteous and helpful when I asked about luggage allowance and boarding gate details. What could be better: Security and check‑in queues were longer than I expected. Several reviewers have flagged this as a repeated issue, particularly during busy times or while ongoing construction is in progress. Some facilities feel outdated or under‑resourced — for example, seating near gates was limited and a few retail/café areas felt crowded or lacking. Drop‑off and pick‑up zones, as well as car‑park signage and access, seemed confusing at times; this added a bit of stress when arriving early. Overall thoughts: If you’re flying from or through Birmingham Airport and arrive with plenty of time, the trip can be quite smooth. The accessibility and straightforward terminal design are definite pluses. However, if you’re cutting it close to your flight or travelling at peak times, I’d advise giving yourself extra buffer time due to potential queues and minor facility drawbacks.
