Specialty Museums
Nestled at the northern end of Oxford Street, the East London Museum is a treasure trove for those intrigued by natural and cultural history. Established in 1921, this captivating museum showcases an array of exhibits that highlight the region's rich heritage. The star of the show is undoubtedly the coelacanth, a prehistoric fish thought to have been extinct for over 80 million years until its remarkable rediscovery in 1938 near East London.
I spent just over 2hrs here. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The display windows have so much detail. Every piece is brilliant. It's definitely worth a visit. I also loved that so many of the descriptions are original, old paper notes. The museum spans 2 floors. There's a lot to learn here. If you love history, this place will make your heart smile.
Noor-ain I — Google review
Great experience. 30 rand per adult. We were reminded at 3:33 to "Make it quick. We close at 4" so we felt rushed. The lights were switched off already in the African history and Victorian Ages parts. I guess the workers wanted an early Weekend as it was a Friday. But we didn't let that 'dampen' our mood.
GaryTheViking — Google review
Surprisingly a good field trip. Clean and very friendly and welcoming staff. Very reasonable price for adults and children and seniors. A lot of rich history and quite educational. Also impressed with the collection of artifacts on display. Definitely worth a visit with family and children.
Samantha S — Google review
not big on visiting museums went there to pass some time.. and then we actually foumf it very intresting and learned quite a few things i never new.. not a bad place to ho and the staff was very frindly...
Christo V — Google review
The best museum ever! You could spend an entire day there . Fascinating exhibits
Marion G — Google review
What a beautiful museum! We loved every minute of exploring the wide varity of information and displays. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. We could have easily spent another hour or so there, but unfortunately it was time for the museum to close.
Marié-Louise Z — Google review
A friend we are visiting in East London suggested this museum and it was a fascinating way to spend a few hours. The story of the once thought extinct coelacanth and the last known dodo egg is now incredibly interesting to see and hear about.

Aquarium

Aquarium
Zoos & Aquariums
The East London Aquarium, the oldest public aquarium in Southern Africa, has recently reopened with newly renovated tanks showcasing a variety of local fish species. Visitors can also enjoy a 30-plus-foot viewing platform for spotting southern right whales migrating along the coastline. The aquarium offers a mesmerizing display of sea life, including rare and extinct species, providing an educational and entertaining experience for visitors of all ages.
Wow, haven't been here for a good couple of years, thought we'd get out the house and treat the kids to something different, and a treat it was! My eldest daughter, almost four was so excited! We arrived just before feeding time , which in the morning is 11:30. She got to feed the penguins, awesome experience for her. The place has really changed, expanded with a easy to walk on deck between attractions. Thanks so much to all the staff!
Simon T — Google review
The worst and overpriced place I have ever visited. The aquarium is very small with a limited number of marine species. Some of the viewing areas were closed for maintenance and seemed rather unsafe and uncared for. Waste of time for a family outing! Avoid the bathrooms, just do not go there.
Litsietsi M — Google review
Place has so much potential. My kids enjoyed it. Feeding times are 11:30&15:30.
Gloria M — Google review
sorry to say but the place is not in a very good state. alot of tank where under construction and leaking water and they r very small for the amount of fish in them.. must say the animals look sad..
Christo V — Google review
This was a lovely visit to the East London Aquarium. The entrance fee was reasonable. The animals were well cared for. The staff were very kind and welcoming, and let my children feed the penguins. Despite there clearly being limited funding, it hasn’t affected the staff’s attitude or the care that the animals receive. A small gift shop sells items on behalf of “friends of the aquarium” to help raise funds. Unfortunately, they only accept cash for these items, so make sure to bring some along. Overall it was a great experience. Go there, they need the support! The seals love to have company!
Nicola M — Google review
Not that I dislike it but it's rather a sad situation happening there. Some cages are empty. There isn't much to see expect the penguins. The only thing amazing is the ocean view. The big seal is depressed you can tell the EL people are trying to preserve it by adopting the animals but there's only so much that they can do.
Ylung C — Google review
This is not the biggest aquarium there is, but it was fun to visit. There are a few tanks with colourful fish, a room with interesting facts about sea life, a pool with seals, another with penguins and two big pelicans. We arrived on feeding time (11:30) for the seals, penguins, pelicans and sharks (they're in a tidal pool) and the little ones enjoyed throwing fish to the penguins.
Corna ( — Google review
Had an awesome day at the aquarium with great knowledge of fish species. It's good to note the feeding times before going because you can actually feed some penguins. The aquarium could use a good tuck shop for snacks, but overall it was a great experience especially for the little one

Ann Bryant Art Gallery

Shopping
The Ann Bryant Art Gallery is a captivating destination for those interested in contemporary African art. The gallery's permanent collection, which began in the early 20th century, features over 350 pieces and offers a unique insight into South Africa's cultural evolution over the past century. Housed in an elegant Edwardian building surrounded by tranquil gardens, the gallery showcases works from renowned artists such as Tinus de Jongh and emphasizes South African art from the 1960s.
Easy to find. Lovely way to spend 20-30 minutes in East London. Can easily combine with a visit to the nearby city museum. They had an exhibit by graduate students at the time which was excellent. Lovely grounds and staff.
Mark H — Google review
This was such a lovely experience. It almost felt like I'd stepped back in time. There was no entrance fee, but you can leave a donation. The gentleman I met with was very kind and friendly.
Noor-ain I — Google review
The art in this place is amazing. To upcoming artist and big time selling artist, the gallery is draped in nothing but art from the walls to statues on the floors, or ornaments hanging from the ceiling. It's outdoor area is calming and soothing as it has so many different trees and beautiful green grass to expose yourself more to nature and get some sunlight. I love that the outdoors are always clean no matter when you get there, it doesn't disappoint.
Lilitha N — Google review
Art works housed in a lovely old building that is looking very sad. The artwork encompasses a broad selection of South African artists but they too look like they are falling into disrepair in the uncontrolled and hot conditions. Judging by the alarming library of jumbled books not enough care is being taken of the art. Yet again it seems to be dwindling resources.
Tessa R — Google review
Lovely morning spent here. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and shown into the gallery. The curator was very friendly and told us a little about the history of the venue and helped us out with a catalogue of the pieces. Great experience and beautiful art, definitely worth a visit!
Sean E — Google review
An old Edwardian House with a magical atmosphere that draws the visitors in. The art has immense merit with works from the early 19th century. Many of the works put far larger South African galleries to shame.
Christian M — Google review
I did not hate it but it was not my cup of tea either. The building is tidy and beautiful, the art is interesting but I am more of the abstract art so that I can make up my mind about what I am seeing. It is in a quiet location. I have not ordered anything yet
Aphiwe R — Google review
Very bad experience. The gate was open but the building seemed empty and locked. No welcome, no staff, no board saying the exhibt was close, nothing. I walked around the building to find someone in the office. I knocked and the window and was rudely told loadshedding, no hello sir, no sorry to inform you but the power will be back at this time, he didnt even bother to get out of his chair he shouted at me from accross the room. Not to my suprise all the robots and street lights where working I even enquired at another business about the loadshedding and there was no loadshedding. Its almost as if the person was annoyed that I wanted to come and see the art. He was more worried about his phone than doing his job. Its quite sad to see as the building and complex with such rich with atmosphere and history being treated in such a way, the place does have alot of potential and would have been nice to see. But it has left a bitter experience for me.

Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve

Wildlife and safari park
Function room facility
Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve, nestled along South Africa's Wild Coast, offers a unique blend of wild beauty and modern comfort. The reserve features a laid-back game lodge with an outdoor pool and restaurant, providing stunning views of the surrounding reserve. It is also an ideal venue for African-style weddings, offering a thatched open-air chapel set amidst beautiful gardens and various wedding themes to choose from.
I visit this place regularly and I have to admit the hospitality and food is amazing also the staff are friendly and Graham is one of the nicest guys I've ever met always up for a chat I love this place will defnitely recommend and continue going there!!!
Andre G — Google review
I recently visited the game reserve and while the booking process went smoothly the overall experience fell short of my expectations. Firstly, we were informed that due to rain, we'd need to take a detour via the main road which left us chilly and uncomfortable. It would've been considerate if the side curtains of the vehicle had been lowered to provide some protection. Furthermore, the animal sightings were disappointing. The closest animals we saw were near the reception area while the others were at a considerable distance. We managed to spot a giraffe and a sleeping lion after an extensive search which raised concerns about the reserve's animal population. I question the lack of animal tracking systems or tags which seemed intentional to prolong the tour duration and increase costs. We were told there were seven lions but I remain skeptical. In conclusion if you're seeking a leisurely drive this might be suitable. However, if you're eager to spot wildlife I'd recommend observing the animals near the reception area instead of embarking on a lengthy and potentially disappointing tour. Our driver Trevor, was exceptionally kind and courteous which somewhat redeemed the experience. Nonetheless, I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
Memory M — Google review
We were part of a large tour group. The group divided into several safari vehicles which still made for quite a large group bunch up fairly close to each other. While we did see the lions and rhino fairly close, the giraffes and other animals were fairly off in the distance. This was just an 3 hour drive so can't comment on the lodging. There is a large gift shop. Toilet facilities needs some work.
Cynthia P — Google review
The receptionist was very helpful and responsive, which encouraged us to book the 3-hour game drive. The fee was reasonable—similar to what we’ve paid in Kruger. Our game ranger was knowledgeable and patient with our kids. However, the vehicle and the main entrance building and kiddies play area could all use a good dose of maintenance. The roads were in very poor condition, which limits how much of the park you can explore in the given time slot. Unfortunately, we saw very few animals.
Lucinda D — Google review
The experience was good but your road through the park is shocking. Very hard on an old mans back. Im sure your vehicle had no shocks on it. Refreshments just a drink no snacks. Suggest some biltong would have gone done well.
Evelyn A — Google review
Second time on a game drive. Would of been a third but when I phoned to book they told me I don't have to book but just get there. That was the last time I was in SA six months ago and well phoned the morning and then got there and drive was full. It's a well priced drive. However should you have any back issues it's not for you. It's extremely uncomfortable so don't compare it to any other game drive. The lions are fenced in. Absolutely zero birding. The birds are there.. the guides are not. Alot of nonsense chit chatter from the guide about local vets and his student vet whatever. Not much regarding the animals in the park. Best sighting was the two crowned eagles outside the park on the way back but no stopping for that. Had binos, couldn't see a single thing because besides the Impala and the dehorned rhino and the lion we drove right up to because it's fenced in ... Didn't have a chance to see a single bird. No need for binos, no need for a camera. Also when we were done the guide Mr D Taylor was gone. No chance to say anything nor tip or last thoughts. Gone. Didn't greet us either. Headed to Mpongo tomorrow and keen to see a flippen lark or anything we can actually stop at to identify. Also, Mr Taylor, it's Dr woods that you were trying to remember (the "bird vet' which had nothing to do with our drive) Also, go an look at my reviews. I hardly ever give negatives.

Absolutely perfect for a family outing and meal! We had their Milkshakes, iced coffee, berry smoothie and pizzas: everything made to perfection! The place was extremely busy, and we were amazed at the fast service and quality of the food. Definitely our new go-to destination in East London for a family meal!
Madeleine B — Google review
The food was lovely. It is very busy and they served our food so so fast( i think it was like 15 minutes and then our food came) . Very very hot. Very very busy. Was food was absolutely lovely. Friendly staff. I was very impressed with their services. Prices are reasonable and it has an absolutely amazing view. Play area for kids aswell. Their is a gift shop but unfortunately it was way too hot to go have a look. Bathrooms are clean. Would definitely go again.
Simone S — Google review
We love Lavender Blue! We come to visit everytime we are in East London visiting family. Very family friendly, with a playground and open space for kids to run around. They even had Child Helpers at the play area to make sure the kids are playing safely. The food is incredibly delicious, our daughter had egg on toast with sausage, we had eggs benedict and the juices are tasty and freshly squeezed. It's difficult not to buy from the farm market section, freshly made baked goods and even fruits and veggies. It was very busy on the Sunday Mor ING we went but they still manage to keep service up and running with minimal wait time. Worthwhile no matter which way you look at it.
Chelsea H — Google review
One of my favourite places to visit in East London! An absolute gem! Super cozy and warm inside during the Winter, and fresh and sunny outside during the Summer! We had the Eggs Benedict with Smoked Trout and Eggs Florentine (full), with bottomless coffee! DELICIOUS and great portions!!!!! The staff, and particularly our server, Lulu, were wonderful and so friendly! I highly recommend this establishment and a definite must if you're visiting EL!
Trusha M — Google review
Surprisingly good food. They were quite busy so maybe thats why things seemed a bit disorganized. An impressive operation though with so many people cooking and serving etc. staff were very friendly and polite. Food was great. I only subtracted 1 star from service because the food came way before the tea and also one at a time. So we just shared the first dish and then again the second and then had tea for dessert 🤷🏻‍♀️ also had to ask for milk for the tea. Well worth the visit though. Just come relaxed and maybe be prepared for the food to come out separately.
Alexandra T — Google review
I enjoyed the outside seating area where you can eat a meal right by the water and watch the ducks swimming by. The food is delicious, but a bit on the pricier side. I ordered a chicken and mayonnaise toastie, and for the price I paid I wish it came with chips - but they were an extra expense.
Sarah M — Google review
Had breakfast here twice when I was on a recent trip to East London. This place is an absolute gem. Food was extremely tasty and the portions were large. Service was good and the setting is very relaxing. It was very busy on my Saturday visit however we never had to wait long for food. The chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies are also amazing. Lavender Blue will definitely be on my list of places to visit next time I am in East London.

Was very good, played with the monkeys, plus park has cheetahs, lamas, giraffe, tigers (white and normal) plus of course lions. Could buy food for ducks, rabbits, pony, donkeys and some of the other animals. Very reasonable price, and enjoyed the food. Animals looked well after and staff were very friendly and open. Kids loved it. Would definitely recommend.

Nice place to visit for the day. There is a Braai spot where you can have a braai or a Pot. Great place fir the kids to play and feed the animals. I will definitely take my pot and stay for the whole day...

Its a great place, four white lions, and many types of monkeys. What I liked, you can go and braai there and spend a day, with a little fee. An adult is 50r kids 25r. Its fun.

For small kids is great, for adults a bit boring... They have a new attraction which is interacting with spider monkeys, which is awesome, although the monkeys can get cranky and bite... Hehhehehe that happened to us.

Friesland Milk Bar is not situated in the best of areas but the Best Milkshake - Fiesta Fruit was my favourite. A Huge shout out to the staff, who waited for us even though they were closing at 5pm. We called to say we were on our way but couldn't make it for 5pm and they waited. Thank you so much, it was definitely better than the milkshakes we have in Cape Town

This picturesque destination offers a charming thatched conference room for ceremonies or an enchanting outdoor setting by the river. We didn’t stay here but did a day thing where we did the giraffe tour. Just a magical experience. The staff are very friendly and I would go again in a heartbeat. We would stay there if we were ever in the area again.
Janis S — Google review
What was meant to be a 3 night stay, ended being 7 nights. What a wonderful campsite. Perfectly appointed and so clean. The ablutions were spotless. Situated on the Kwelera river and plenty of trees for shade. Canoes available at a very reasonable rate, so made the most of the opportunity. Loved the fact that we were visited daily but a buck, ostrich, peacock and even a big tortoise. One of the friendliest staff we have experienced in our road tripping in our campervan. Altogether, a fantastic experience and we will be back again. Thank you for giving us that space to chill and reboot. Well done to all
Lyn K — Google review
Well maintained. Great food. Friendly people. But poorly coordinated. Restaurant made it impossible to make our booking for activities although we left an hour to do so. Asked for latitude but landed up waiting an extra hour. Through no fault of ours. Each individual event great but the blaming each other and poor efficiency messed up the day.
Felicity C — Google review
Nestled right in nature. What sets this Areena campsite apart is its unwavering commitment to giving their campers the best time at the best price. The fact that you can camp with your 4 legged fur babies makes the experience unforgettable. Now you start counting the birds, fluffy little rabbits and the rest of the animals you will find yourself in paradise. With a river and mountains that looks like you are in Vietnam you will wonder in what country you are... don’t let the campground cheat you with its beauty, you will wonder if you walked into a small Switzerland village. The staff is the BEST, form the Owner to the young, good looking office girls and each worker that is involved there. Friendliness and eagerness to assist with a big smile and the humour with their jokes, unbelievable. The ablutions was perfectly cleaned and moped every single day. Never ran out of toilet paper or hand soap. Oh, if you are a pensioner you are in for a treat. Free pensioners lunch with sandwiches, pudding, cake and coffee once a week. Special rates at their restaurant, what more must they do to treat you like royalty. We planned and booked for 3 months camping, we cancelled another appointment and stayed a month longer. The best long-term camping price in the whole South Africa. AREENA WANTS YOU THERE. :)

We went just for the games. Our kids enjoyed them so much. The food was great even though the potato salad finished quickly. The waiter Melitafa was very kind...

We stayed at Areena Riverside Resort for a month camping in our motorhome alongside the river with our friends. It was our 2nd visit here and just as lovely as the 1st time. Saw many animals and did lots of walking and sightseeing. I would highly recommend this venue as well as their restaurant on site. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch every week for R150 each and well worth every cent. Ed, the owner, is totally hands-on and friendly and helpful. He even towed our friend's motorhome up the wet road when we were leaving. Great experience all round and highly recommended.

East London Zoo is a popular destination housing over 300 animals, including lions, tigers, and primates. The zoo provides a home for rescued animals and rare species from different continents. Visitors can capture memorable moments with their cameras while strolling through indigenous and exotic vegetation in the Queens Park Zoological Gardens. The zoo offers special night tours and behind-the-scenes experiences by appointment.
I spent an afternoon at the zoo with my family and it truly was a wonderful experience, we spent a few hours touring the whole zoo, and then we had a picnic on the grass in the afternoon. The animals are in pristine condition, and you can see that they are well looked after which made me very happy. There aren’t as many animals as back in the day, but there are still a good amount that are there. 10/10 recommend this as a family outing.

The location is great because is not far from town. Its reachable even if you dont have personal transport. There's peacock, wild pigs, bears, jackals, white Lions, tiger, jaguar, chimpanzee, different breeds of monkeys, birds, snakes, crocodile, turtles, impala/inyala and more small animals i dont even know by name just know them from Nat geo wild. There's alot to see there. It was great. You pay at the reception +/- R65 adult and discount on kids. I almost didn't go when i read reviews there'snt alot to see. But i tell you there's alot, just ask where to go. Staff is friendly

We recently went to visit the EL zoo and was pleasantly surprised. Not only did our 22month old loved seeing the animals and enjoyed playing on the various playgrounds. The zoo is neat and the animals appear well fed and healthy. The grounds boast with beautiful green areas with large trees. The visit to the the Zoo was a great opportunity to teach our little one about different animals. we will definitely visit again.

It was a great experience, I was stoked to get up close and personal with the Bengal Tiger and various other animals we don't really have in CPT as far as I know.
Rukeya H — Google review
It was packed with people, it was an open day, so free entry, loved seeing the animals, was really a good day

oh my word.. what a disgrace op a place ppl dhould really stop to go there just so it could close down and they can relocate the few animals still there.. half of them is empty the animals is one one in a cadge and is so dirty and broken down. the bathrooms was even wours. i would not recoment it to anybody
Christo V — Google review
1.Definitely enclosure improvements 2.Animals are in good condition 3. Unfortunately not many animals to see but the main ones are there. 4. Children's play area is well maintained 5. Unfortunately the train was not active nor were the boat rides Although there were some let downs, it's a great place to spend the day. Take a picnic basket and a blanket and enjoy lunch while the kids play.

Animals are well fed we loved to walking through everything place needs some fund to look better but can see they are trying their best well-done to the people working there

We Ave been to a few places like this all over the country. My first impression was the size of the salad and the ingredients. Excellent 👌 and generous! Also their vegetarian and vegan pizzas are delicious. Best gluten free pizzas I have ever had! Highly recommended! I will definitely be visiting again.

Besides great food and delicious beer Emerald Vale also offers a sweet cottage to stay at. Full kitchen if you want to cook and complete peace and quiet when the restaurant closes to enjoy the African skies. Thank you for hosting me!

My mom and I had lunch there. We ordered the hawaiian pizza and chicken strips with chips. Beautiful scenery and lovely setup, so peaceful. Staff were friendly and assisted quickly, our food order arrived at our table sooner than I expected. There was a lot of parking available and signs everywhere, making it easy to find everything. I'll definitely be back again and will maybe try out the mountain bike trails they have there on the premises.

What a delightful place! We enjoyed such a wonderful Sunday lunch here - the staff are super friendly and their food's really tasty! We also tried a sample tray of their home brew beer, which we thoroughly enjoyed. There are a couple of walking trails and we would like to hike some of them soon. Great experience!

Great vibe, excellent food and great beer. The staff are all so friendly and very helpful. One of the best place for a chilled afternoon with family and friends. The play area for the little ones is close by. Definitely a place to try if you have not been there yet. Before or after you can take a walk (hike) along some of the trails starting from a 1km upto a 28km. If you a cyclist there are some lovely trails to challenge yourself on but don't for get to grab a beer afterwards.

The ambiance at Grazia is fantastic, creating an ideal setting for a memorable dining experience. My number one spot for a special occasion. The food is out of this world and the atmosphere and service are amazing. The prices are a bit high but I feel it's worth it considering the excellent service and vibe you get. It's not just about going out for a meal but also going out for a whole experience. I specifically also love the variety foods. It doesn't feel like the food options are limited - even for someone that's a picky eater.
Sonique G — Google review
The atmosphere was absolutely amazing, the restaurant is on the beach front, so the views are amazing. The service was excellent. The food was good, but I feel like it's a bit overpriced, I might be wrong, but that's just my opinion .
Siphe C — Google review
Food was so good that I came back here the following day for supper. Nestled next to sea lies this restaurant which has so much to offer. This 1st night there I ordered the fillet steak with camembert and had the creme brulee for dessert. Drinks I had old fashioned cocktail which was delicious. The following day had the prawn parcels followed by the rack of lamb (cooked to perfection and the perfect crust on the lamb). I would drive back to East London just for that rack of lamb. Service was alright, not the greatest but could be better. Manager did come and check in on me to make sure all is fine. Would I return, yes I would.
Calvin R — Google review
The food was really exceptional, fresh and tasty. The view outdoor is amazing.

What a posh place to go to. Had supper with colleagues and was blown away by the food. Everyone had their own dish from starters up to dessert and all of us shared some of our food because we wanted the others to experience the same taste bud explosion that was absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend this place and will go visit again if I m in East London again.
Ferdy J — Google review
Food? Amazing! Service? Amazing! Atmosphere? Amazing! I actually can't wait to visit again.
Sandile N — Google review
Ordered a Dutch Fillet, but was served a piece of trimmed rump instead (there was still a nice piece of fat on it, which I've never seen on a fillet steak). If I wanted a rump steak, I would have ordered it. In the end, it was the chef's word against mine, and was offered a dessert as compensation.

Restaurant
The Cow and Milk Shed is a cozy eatery that offers reinvented comfort food in a pleasant atmosphere. The menu features dishes like Wiltshire pork sausage on mash with onion gravy and creamy salmon-and-pea risotto, all beautifully presented. However, the highlight is their dry-aged steaks served with flavorful sauces. Whether you choose to dine at the bar or restaurant side, you can expect generous serving sizes and attentive service.
What a wonderful surprise. Visiting East Londen and you find this restaurant. It is very well priced and the food is delicious. The waitresses are extremely friendly and efficient. Try their burgers and crumbed mushrooms.
Michael D — Google review
Great prices and wonderful atmosphere. The service did take a little while but given there was one waiter in the section it wasn’t too bad. Loved the owners going to check in on us during the evening. The food was alright, just needed a little seasoning on the burger patty, the chips where delightful. The milkshake was a bit of a let down, it needed to be blended a little better for a smoother consistency. The cocktails were great. And great value for money.
Lwazi N — Google review
Love the layout and decor of the restaurant. Cozy and warm atmosphere! Food was delicious, though the home made pattie on my burger was a little under done to my liking. Presentation was excellent, though 👌 Worth the wait of about an hour given that it was really busy. Ladies bathroom could do with some TLC.
Rochelle S — Google review
I was invited to celebrated my friends birthday at the Cow Shed. I was met with an extremely friendly waiter. The owner was extremely friendly too, interacting with our table, he went out of his way to make us feel welcome and important. He gave us a complimentary birthday ice-cream for my friend with a sparkler 🎇. He then sang happy birthday with us. The food was delicious, although the service time could have been a little quicker. Truly great experience, just a beautiful environment.

We were very impressed with this restaurant. It's not big, but they are big on excellent service and great food! There is such a wide variety of side dishes to choose from and their steak is done to perfection. Love the atmosphere ... it is definitely worth visiting The Cow and Milk Shed.
Corna ( — Google review
Today was my second visit to the restaurant. My first visit was weekday evening, at the bar side of the establishment but today I went for a weekday lunch at the restaurant side. The menu is the same so, you get to have the food whichever side you sit in. Both times it was not very busy. The food here has been amazing both times. Their serving sizes are very generous. The staff was friendly and attentive both times. I will certainly be back and would recommend it to anyone - for solo, couple or group dining.

Cosy place. Food is good. Starters took a little long. Tables were a little sticky. All and all a good place to eat in East London as I have not found a better place to eat in East London yet.

One of the best restaurants in East London. Food is well prepared, and service is professional. Seating arrangements are a bit weird at some tables, with a high bench on one side and lower chairs on the other. There are, however some more private booths, so best to book one in advance.

We make use of the Senior special on Wednesday, and this 3 course meal for R100 is absolutely devine!! My husband likes their burgers 🍔 again. Their cuppachino is 👌 The food has taste and has a homemade taste to it. Great service from the staff 👏
Gail N — Google review
I had a great experience at Pinecreek. Parking was easy on a quiet Saturday, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even charged my phone while I was outside, though service was a bit slow, even for drinks. The play area is spacious and well-designed for kids, with good visibility for parents. The monkeys add a fun element, but they do keep an eye on unattended food. The food quality was impressive, with a rating of 4.2 out of 5. The chips, vegetables, and steak were all excellent, and my wife’s chicken was also very tasty. The kids loved the play area, especially the train ride and tunnel. The ride was short, so extending it and adding more tracks would be a great improvement. The area by the pond is perfect for photos, with curious monkeys in the background adding a unique touch.
Asadumodwa M — Google review
Had the best chicken strips ever. Food took a while, though. Great atmosphere. My grandkids enjoyed the train ride and playground, but the merry-go-round had me cringing each time a child was at risk of falling.

I went there for the breakfast special. It was good. Early morning, still very quiet. I was well received, asked where I wanted to sit. I chose to sit outside but underroof. Friendly service. Well maintained, very neat building. If it is hot outside, rather sit inside where there is aircon - so I was told by one of the staff. Will remember that for future visits. Pinecreek station / playground is to the right (If you face the front) Main entrance is in the middle. Will visit again.
Key D — Google review
What happened to the Pinecreek I used to loved? I always host my group gathering there and introduce friends and family to farm fine dining. The scenery and meal was on spot then. Unfortunately yesterday experience erased as the good past experience have ever had. Christmas lunch was a disaster 😩, I was on the queue for starter for over 45minutes not because of a huge crowd but for lack of good planning. There was nothing special to call it Christmas lunch, you wait for cutlery, food ( I think food was prepared in small quantities such that it run out very quickly. Who serves chicken wing with tiny pieces of beef etc for what was served compared to price paid R450pp was a rip-off. My overall experience yesterday is a zero rating 🙃 and I felt sorry for the staffs that didn't give good service but had to give tip.
Peridot R — Google review
The food is delicious! Service is good. Its a bit pricey and you wait a while for your food but it's definitely worth it. Lovely private setup. There are cute little animals roaming around like chickens and monkeys. You are surrounded by greenery, like dining in a forest. The atmosphere is majestic. This was a totally unique and fun experience.

Nestled in The Crossing of Beacon Bay, Cantina & Craft is a vibrant Mexican-themed restaurant that promises an unforgettable dining experience for the whole family. With a delightful kids' menu featuring fun options like Corn on the Cob, Cheesy Nachos with Chicken, and Mini Burritos with Mac and Cheese, even picky eaters will find something to enjoy. The stylish yet relaxed ambiance creates a welcoming atmosphere complemented by friendly service.
Service is normally really good. Last time we went, it was really poor, though (waitor not introducing herself, bad communication, slow to let us know if my order was available and slow to get drinks out even though there was like 4 tables). Lots of workers sitting around on their phones too, doing nothing. There was a small physical fight that went down in the kitchen ,but if anything that just made the food go down better because, well... free UFC entertainment. Food is always delicious and decently priced for the size you're getting. Really yummy. 😋 They've nailed the atmosphere. You can go during the day for a quiter experience but at night it's spectacular. 🌙

Cantina and Craft was a fantastic choice! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The Mexican food was delicious, with plenty of tasty options to choose from. We also loved their creative selection of virgin cocktails—perfect and refreshing! Highly recommended for a great meal and excellent service.

Everything about that place is nice especially the food, waiters are kind enough to recommend food. A budget of R500 will get you a nice meal, quite expensive yes but nevertheless it is a nice place.

Renowned for its exceptional coffee, light lunches, hearty breakfasts, and delectable cakes, this family-friendly cafe offers an array of healthy options like chicken wraps and scrumptious carrot cake. Stunning tranquil atmosphere. Nestled under large shady trees. We enjoyed the most delicious poached eggs and ham on an English muffin, and could help noticing even more delectable plates of food passing our table ! The service was speedy and friendly. We even spoilt ourselves to an takeaway piece of heaven - the devine carrot cake and pecan nut cheese cake. When visiting East London again , this will definitely be a must visit restaurant.
Hydeh-Mari E — Google review
I reccomend eating here. The atmosphere is beautiful and private , the food is good and the service is friendly. Food: Hollandaise Breakfast - R89 The sauce was absolutley delicious and the poached eggs were cooked to perfectly. Unfortunately the toast was cold , giving it a rubbery texture. The mushrooms were flavorful. The portion was adequate. Lemon Meringue cake - The meringue was super soft and fluffy , while the lower half of the cake was sweet and balanced it out well. Carrot Cake - R50 We were dissapointed with the portion for the price of R50. View photo , It was really a let down. The cake tasted fine. Service: Friendly service and helpful staff ,they wiped chairs for us to sit outside as it had been raining. Atmosphere: This is definitely the best part and makes the whole experience. Although there is no ocean view , you are seated and surrounder by trees and privacy. A special set-up.

My favourite coffee shop and snack shack in East London. Keeping it simple and the food is superior, meal after meal. Relaxed atmosphere where we chill and enjoy our coffee
Test M — Google review
The place is called “the beach break cafe” but delivers more than what a cafe is capable of! We walked in after a long day at the beach and were cooled away with the warmth of hospitality from the staff at the restaurant. They were happy to take our order at the table even though the norm is to order at the counter. We had some amazing coffees that charged us up thanks to the perfect strength of these coffees! This should on our list if you are visiting the beaches this side.

This is a lovely stop for a takeaway coffee or a sit down brekkie/lunch. The sit down is covered by beautiful trees and if you close your eyes you can hear the ocean. My little one always enjoy playing in the play area and explore. Staff are friendly and food is yummy

A great place to go after some time at the beach. We loved the food and atmosphere here so much we ate here two days in a row. The burgers are great and we were glad we came back when the load shedding was not going on so we could have the curry and other lunches. Both times we couldn’t resist the cakes (especially the carrot cake) and coffee :)

Service and ambiance was great. The food was absolutely amazing and I was very much surprised to see that prices only escalated between 2 and 5 per item. This was an absolute great experience and would recommend this to anyone.

Always an amazing experience. I love the ambience with the sun peeping through the leaves, it really is beautiful. The best thing on the menu is definitely the carrot Cake....good texture, soft, nice tasting , moment on the lips and lifetime on the hips but it's worth every penny and it's a good portion Size too.

We came because we heard the calamari burgers were amazing. We arrived not long after they opened and the woman behind the counter grunted "no buns". She was actually very rude and we should have left then and there. But we opted for two serves of calamari and chips costing R180. There are no prices on the menu board. Our order sat on the counter for some time (we assumed it was someone else's because we were sitting right in front of the staff. Both the chips and calamari were soggy and inedible and we left very disappointed.
Sailing E — Google review
Very very rustic ?? I'm not sure what to call it...you place your order (does not look very hygienic) and wait for your take away, or you can sit down outside at the not so clean tables ...You get a number after you paid and someone will bring your order to the table, no waiters there. You can then go to the counter where they sell coldrink or alcohol and pay there for your drinks. It could be a nice place with a bit of TLC and maybe someone to clean the tables. We were there for 30 minutes, and it was definitely not my type of sitdown. Calamari was like elastic bands but fish was ok...About 3min from there is another place with beautiful seating inside and outside, where you can watch the dolphins!
Gail N — Google review
Their food is always amazing 😍 I love the service. I'm always satisfied each time I go to eat there. Friendly and approachable staff members
Phelokazi T — Google review
A great little harbor fishery. You can buy whole fresh fish here. It's not the nearest cleanest place and sometimes a bit smelly from the fish processing done on sure. It's expected since it is a fish market, but could be cleaner in general. The food was tasty and fresh and reasonably priced. There is a small bar where you can get some drinks, to go with the food.
DJ B — Google review
Fish and chips shop right on the river. Very clean with benches inside as well as outside. Parking is fairly easy but a walk away. Staff is not friendly nor helpful. The fish was well prepared but had bones. The calamari and chips were too oily. Book in advance to prevent disappointment and conflict.
Christine L — Google review
Absolutely stunning venue. There are views from below the bridge of the river and docks where sea rescue is based. Their food is as fresh as it gets with them also being a fish market they catch daily. On entering one might have a short waiting period due to Sea rescue operation being prioritized in the dock. However it is certainly worth it. Staff are friendly and accommodating however don't take reservations which is understandable as they can get quite busy. I highly recommend this stop on your trip in East London.
Morne B — Google review
I had the fish burger here and it was delicious!! The place was busy with moms and dads watching the regatta but we managed to find a table to eat from. Service was great and the toilets nice and clean. It’s always a pleasure coming to eat here. One point to notice is the parking needs to be upgraded as after the rain it was one slushy mess!!

Sanook Cafe is centrally located in Berea. Perfect for work lunches or evenings out for dinner. The menu is amazing and there is no meal that ever disappoints. The staff are so friendly and professional.
Christel — Google review
The outside doesn’t do the inside any justice, the ambiance and vibe is nice, the food is well presented and tastes good however the service is extremely slow, once we ordered it was at least 30mins before anyone came to our table to check in on us and if they knew it takes awhile for the pizzas to get done, we could have been given the option to receive the other meals first since our pizza was not a main and wanted to try it because we heard good things about it. The inside is very hot and the tables are quite close to each other so it can be quite noisy depending on your neighbours
Alisha M — Google review
This place needs an upgrade. Looks tired and not as clean and fresh as before. Feels like some of the passion has been lost. El doesn't have much to offer, so people think it's a great place, but it can do better.
Claire — Google review
Nice ambience and friendly staff. Though the burger falls short of my expectation but I think its cos of what I ordered... The waiters were very friendly and professional but I think it will be much better if a waiter is assigned to a certain number of customers at a time. The idea of being served by random waiter is not nice; It causes delay and also confusion on whom to tip... Overall its a nice place and will love to visit again for me to give a final verdict on their burger...

Exceptional food, but most importantly outstanding service from Onesimo who ensured I have a wonderful experience. Thank you!!!

The presentation of the food looked promising, but the taste was incredibly disappointing. The prawns lacked flavor and were the worst I've ever had. They were tasteless, and the seasoning was virtually nonexistent. To make matters worse, the chips were overly oily and soggy, which made the meal even less enjoyable. I'm really dissatisfied with the quality of the food and will not be returning. Gauteng Ocean Basket is miles ahead in terms of both taste and quality. Sadly, this was a very underwhelming experience.

Avoid this branch, poor service, escalated to manger who didn't give a damn. Ordered food, waited 20 mins to be told it's out of stock, then waited some more to finally eat and R1000 later. Lazy waitress, drinks empty, could not care less if they tried. No thought to compensate customers for the inconvenience. Later had the cheek to add a service charge on to the bill for 3 ppl. Why would anyone tip such poor service. I should have instead shouted my head off rather than be civil about it cos politeness gets u no where with these staff. Avoid it.

Onesimo gave us the best service. She was also down to earth, I am definitely coming back to this restaurant. And the food was immaculate, I even asked about the chef, Sipho made the best hake for me and wife.

King Phalo Airport

Domestic airport
King Phalo Airport, formerly known as East London Airport, is a major airport serving the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. It handles between 20 and 30 flights daily, bringing in around 946,000 people annually. The airport has been recognized for its rapid growth in traffic and serves both local holidaymakers and foreign tourists. Visitors have praised the friendly staff and efficient services at the airport, making it a pleasant experience for travelers.
Airport is small but convenient. Staff are amazing and go above and beyond. I was graciously offered a 2prong plug to charge up my device. Amazing service all round.

King Phalo Airport, located in East London, South Africa, is a significant airport in the Eastern Cape province. Here's my rating based on various factors: Facilities and Amenities: 4/5 King Phalo Airport offers essential facilities, including shops, restaurants, and car rental services. However, the airport's amenities might be limited compared to larger airports in South Africa. Transportation Options: 4/5 The airport provides car rental services and public transportation options, making it relatively easy for passengers to travel to and from the airport. Security: 4.5/5 King Phalo Airport has standard security measures in place, including security checks and CCTV surveillance. However, as with any airport, security can always be improved. Cleanliness and Maintenance: 4/5 The airport's cleanliness and maintenance are generally satisfactory, with regular cleaning and upkeep of facilities. Overall Experience.... 4/5 King Phalo Airport provides a relatively smooth and efficient travel experience. However, some passengers may find the airport's facilities and amenities limited compared to larger airports. Overall, I'd rate King Phalo Airport 4/5 stars. While it may not offer the same level of facilities and amenities as larger airports, it provides a reliable and efficient travel experience.

Neglected and Poorly Maintained Airport The state of the airport is disappointing and not conducive to promoting proper tourism. Maintenance is clearly lacking—some TVs work while others don’t, there are missing ceiling boards that give the entire place a neglected feel. I paid R300 to access the lounge just to have some air conditioning, which should be a basic amenity in the main terminal. The overall experience makes it hard to imagine encouraging tourism with facilities in this condition. A significant upgrade is needed to bring this airport up to standard.

No issues really, just not used to waiting for an airport to open in thr morning. Check in only open at around 6:20, x rays at 6:40 and the lounch only at 7:00. But other than that, had a good experience for the past few flights from here to Jozi

Good service we had, and loved their check in procedure with a card to confirm. Only advice is that Mug & Bean can be bigger. Never the less great service.

My flight was delayed so I got my bag back to book into another flight. My pretty blue luggage tag that wasnt cheap was missing. My bag was in the airport's possession only a few hours before someone helped themselves to it. Not impressed. On a lighter note they did comp us a lunch voucher due to the 6 hour delay which was nice and the airline communicated well keeping me updated via sms, also nice.

Just would like to thank every staff member of the airport for all the help and making it possible to allow a minor to fly with me to Johannesburg. Then I would like to thank the very friendly and ready to assist staff of Mug and Bean for the very amazing staff. as soon as we stood there. As yesterday the 24/10/21 was quite chilly we wanted coffee and got it in no time. For my first visit in over forty years it was a great experience.

It was quite amazing, I got to meet some amazing staff members at the Airpot who assisted me with my Check-in, Really friendly faces till I boarded my flight.
