Dakshin

South Indian restaurant
Dakshin is a renowned restaurant in Chennai that offers an authentic South Indian dining experience. Since its opening in 1989, it has maintained its traditional concept, decor, and staff. The menu features a wide range of dishes from Kerala, Andhra, and Chettinad, allowing guests to sample various regional flavors. The restaurant's temple-style setting is complemented by local music and unique decor elements such as bronze Nataraja sculptures and distinctive chandeliers.
We went on a Tuesday evening. It wasn't busy so we had a quiet dinner. This eve there was no live music but that was fine, they had other music playing. The service is really friendly, and the portion sizes are massive. The food is delicious, I really enjoyed the crab soup 😍 and the prawns as starter. Unfortunately the main was so much, we couldn't finish. You can even get extra serving so make sure to come with an appetite. We tried the fish and non-veg thali, and it was really good to get a taste of the delicious food they prepare. The filter coffee ☕️ was also good. Had a lovely evening, thanks!

I’ve been wanting to try this place ever since they moved from Crowne Plaza. I went for a Sunday lunch thali. The entrance is stunning, and the ambiance is beautiful, keeping the fully rooted South Indian heritage with a modern aesthetic. The service here is top-notch, better than almost anywhere else I’ve been. However, my experience was let down by the food. It was extremely average, even Sangeetha, Geetham, and Bhavyam serve better-tasting food. I recently visited Visesham before this place, and that set a high bar for me. The food was served cold many times, and I had to ask them to replace it several times to get it hot. The only thing that stood out on the menu was the banana dosa and the mix fruit ice cream (mango, banana, and custard apple, if I’m not mistaken). I would suggest Visesham and Avartana for an elevated dining experience in South Indian cuisine.
Rohit G — Google review
It was a great luxury fine dining experience, their signature Thali was good in taste too. However, they can plan the meal better. Since they bring out everything on the plate in one go, it becomes so cold & inedible. They can perhaps train the staff to bring the food course by course upon request so it can be hot & fresh to consume. The newer staff can be a bit more cordial too.
Arjun S — Google review
Authentic south indian food. Calm and relaxing ambience. Live music by musicians rendering famous tamil songs. Many foreigners visit this place for south indian food due to less crowd and relaxing atmosphere. They change menus quite often. Seen kadainrha keerai first time among the many restaurants we have been to. Desert were absolute clasic. Payasam was very original and tasty. Mukkani ice cream (3 fruits mango, banana, jack fruit) was a never before ice cream flavour and extremely good too.
Ravi K — Google review
We had a great experience. The food was fresh and tasty. The live music added to the beauty of the atmosphere. Mr Palani was truly a great host. It was an amazing dining experience.
Shalini S — Google review
Amazing service, very good food for a foreigner, even tho a bit spicy. I ordered Veg Thali and it was very big, as you can repeat dishes. Nice variety to be able to try different dishes. The decoration is beautiful too!
Tania J — Google review
We had a wonderful dining experience today! The food was delicious and the service made it even better. A special mention to Ajay, who served us with great attention and a warm smile throughout. He was polite, quick, and made sure we had everything we needed. Truly appreciated his excellent hospitality — it made our visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend! 🌟🍽️

We celebrated my husband's 75th birthday yesterday at Dakshin. The ambience, food and service were very good and everything we ordered was tasty and hot. Great service by Satish. We will certainly come back more often.

Southern Spice

South Indian restaurant
Restaurant
Southern Spice is a luxurious South Indian restaurant located in the Taj Coromandel hotel. The restaurant boasts ornate decor, including a carved ceiling, and offers traditional cuisine from the four southern states of India. Known for its Mudaliar and Malabar dishes, Southern Spice provides an upscale dining experience with silver palm-shaped plates, wood-carved pillars, and candlelit tables. The menu features locally sourced ingredients such as fresh greens, organic ghee, and Pollachi coconuts.
A must try phenomenon is Maha Virundhu. An experience. The dishes are beautifully presented. Beautifully explained. And the taste is amazing. Singling out these three lovely gentlemen: Shivakumar (Manager) ; Perumal (Chef); Govindarajan (Waiter) Brilliant. Pro tip: go easy on the starters / papads
Tesla G — Google review
Excellent service by Madan and his team. His hospitality is truly rare to come across. The non vegetarian thalis were thoughtfully curated, featuring dishes from different South Indian states and everything was delicious. The Andhra meat dish was a bit too spicy which could be adjusted to suite all palates. Not to forget, they took care of some dietary restrictions and custom made some food. The restaurant’s decor is exquisitely done.
S C — Google review
We celebrated my dad's birthday at the Southern Spice. The restaurant is such a classy and elegant place! We had the megalu rasam, and then the murungelai vada and vazhapoo cutlet for appetizers, and then the kadala gassi and the pachakari ishtew for the main course. Each of these dishes were so exquisitely presented and served by a very attentive staff (of Sagai Raj and Shafe). Two of us were vegan, and the Chef Jabaraj himself came down to get our preferences, and accommodated them with a smile. We loved the experience and the food! They also put together a cake for the birthday celebration :) The one-meter coffee was a great - it's a meter in height for the foam as it's mixed between the davara and tumbler!
Ganesh A — Google review
The perfect south indian restaurant for an authentic south indian feast. The ambiance, the staffs and especially the food at Southern Spice is absolutely amazing. Below are some snaps, ordered the Panagam and the Maha Virundhu. As for the Maha Virundhu I believe it's more that enough for 1 person 😂😂🤭, the food keeps on coming, if you're not a heavy eater.
Dha S — Google review
Had an incredible time at Southern Spice! The food was authentic and absolutely delicious, the ambience was elegant, and the overall vibe was just right. Big shoutout to Bala — his service was top-notch and truly made the evening special. If you’re looking for a place that serves amazing South Indian cuisine in a classy setting, this is it. And trust me, come with an empty stomach — the portions are generous and everything’s worth trying!
Sanjay S — Google review
My family and I came here for dinner after a long day of shopping during our holiday, and the experience was absolutely wonderful! The customer service by Madhav and Sangeetha was exceptional. I called last minute to make a booking, and they were so accommodating. I wasn’t feeling well as I had a cold, and Sangeetha was kind enough to bring me a shawl so I could wrap myself and feel more comfortable — such a thoughtful gesture! Madhav was also fantastic — very attentive, friendly, and gave us great food recommendations. The overall service, food, and atmosphere made our evening so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be coming back here again the next time we’re in Chennai!
Yenushka S — Google review
Went for a lunch with my family for my marriage anniversary. Ordered two sea food thali. Got a king fish fry, not taste as fresh fish, kind of frozen one. Sea food thali cost 3,600+18% tax per person. Service by Shafi and Bala was expectional.
Vinoth S — Google review
Absolutely nothing to complain about and every factor was in their favour. Only advice to guests would be to go there after missing the previous meal..... and probably skip the next too .

Avartana

Mentioned on

South Indian restaurant
Indian restaurant
Avartana is an upscale restaurant located within a luxury hotel, offering an exclusive blend of traditional and progressive renditions of Southern Indian cuisine. The menu showcases the captivating flavors, aromas, and tastes of southern Indian spices, rooted in the region's abundance of pepper and spices. The restaurant offers specially crafted tasting menus for discerning diners to savor a variety of expertly prepared delights.
A must try place for the exquisite and curated meals!! Please keep in mind to go when you have ample time as the experiences range from 1.5 to 3.5 hrs. Do prebook as the restaurant tends to be busy. My regards to the staff for the warm hospitality!
Swapneel K — Google review
Awesome experience.. Fantastic service .. Great Presentation .. Although we made our reservation at 7:45pm, the receptionist was sweet to allow us inside at 7:15pm saying we are booked the entire slot from 7pm to 11pm. We chose Bela (9 course meal) and I have attached the menu and the pics of each dish. Needs improvement : There was considerable waiting time (~15mins) just to pay the bill, as they were carrying single card machine for the full bunch !
Madan K — Google review
Had a memorable dining experience at Avartana in the ITC Grand Chola. The lunch menu was thoughtfully curated, with each course meticulously presented. Liked the serene atmosphere and elegant plating. However, the wait staff could benefit from more training in articulating the menu slowly, some of the dishes like the sago curd rice with papad were salty. The 13-course meal felt a bit excessive, taking nearly 3 hours to complete, yet overall, enjoyed the experience.
Nigar — Google review
Yesterday we visited Avartana. This was my second visit (my first was two years ago, which I really enjoyed). Once again, I have no complaints about the food or the ambience both were excellent and definitely worth the money. What disappointed me, however, was the service. When we visit a restaurant located in a prestigious place like ITC, we naturally expect professional and attentive service. Sadly, the table service etiquette seems to be missing nowadays staff looked tired, and that reflected in how they interacted with guests. I completely understand that working in restaurants can be repetitive and exhausting, but as diners we come for the overall experience, not just the food. Service is what completes the fine dining journey, and I felt that part was lacking this time.
Keerthi C — Google review
Avartana has been open for quite a long time now, and has won numerous awards in its lifetime. So I was rather disappointed to see the sharp drop in quality both in the food and the hospitality. I’ve dined in many fine dining restaurants and had many set menus. And Avartana was quite mediocre in comparison. First off, the overall presentation was rather sloppy. Our cutlery had not been polished well, and one of our glasses still had pieces of coriander stuck on the outside, which is a serious red flag in terms of cleanness. Their staples like their rasam and their fennel panna cotta were plated to perfection as usual, but other courses such as the seafood fritter rice, the cucumber and apple sorbet, and the stir fried chicken seemed sloppily plated, with food not aligned properly or seemingly thrown into the plate with no direction. We got the non vegetarian Bela which our waiter informed us would take 2 hours to complete. In reality, it took about 2.5 hours, the vast majority of which was simply waiting for our food to arrive. The service moved at a snail’s pace, with intervals of 20 minutes or more between courses. Either they did this on purpose to pad out the meal time, or the kitchen was seriously backed up. Both scenarios are a red flag to me. Though the wait time was the least of my concerns with regard to service. The wait staff at the restaurant was some of the most unfriendly and blunt I’ve experienced at a fine dining restaurant. They never asked us how we were liking the food, checked in on whether the pace of the courses was satisfactory, or spent more than a few seconds to explain the food and answer any questions we might have had. They didn’t even offer to refill our wine glasses, despite us paying by the glass and thus incentivising them to make us drink more. These are all bare minimum at a restaurant of this calibre and price point, yet were sorely missing here. You expect a meal at Avartana to be memorable. To be something you think about for years to come because of how unique the food is. But I’m sad to say that the only reason I’ll be thinking about avartana is to remind myself not to visit again due to how much of a disappointment it was. The only saving grace was the drumstick lamb with neer dosa and the fennel panna cotta. Those two were truly excellent, and are dishes worth remembering. Would I pay the full price just to eat those two dishes again? Definitely not.
Ankit S — Google review
Avartana at ITC Grand Chola truly lives up to its reputation. The restaurant has won numerous awards, and I can see why. Some of the dishes absolutely blew my mind — especially their rasam, which was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. Of course, like any tasting menu, not every dish was a hit for me; a few felt pretty average. We visited on a busy night, but the staff handled it well and ensured we had a smooth dining experience. Overall, it’s a good place to visit, especially if you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion. Worth trying if you’re in Chennai and want a memorable meal.
Jerin J — Google review
Innovative food menu. Service felt a little automated but polite. Modern a light atmosphere. More for a fun night out rather than something laid back.
Andrew S — Google review
Avartana impresses with its innovative approach and exceptional quality. The ingredients are clearly top-tier, and the vegetarian dishes were executed with remarkable skill—flavorful, creative, and beautifully presented. Each course felt thoughtfully composed, showcasing the kitchen’s mastery. Service was flawless, with Manoj delivering warm, attentive, and professional hospitality throughout the evening. A truly memorable dining experience.

Annalakshmi Restaurant

Mentioned on

Vegetarian restaurant
Nestled in the bustling heart of Chennai, Annalakshmi Restaurant is a delightful temple-themed eatery that celebrates the rich tapestry of Indian vegetarian cuisine. With roots tracing back to Malaysia in 1984, this charming establishment has expanded its reach across India and beyond, including locations in Singapore and Australia. As a non-profit organization, Annalakshmi dedicates part of its earnings to support artistic and charitable initiatives at the Temple of Arts.
I would define this as a vegeterian paradise, where every rupee is worth it. We came with high expectations and these were even exceeded! We went for the Mahalakshmi menu, a series of starters, soups, Indian breads and rices, all along with their side dishes. Just to mention the top ones: dahi puri, palak and pees, curd base with ladyfingers, creamy paneer… To conclude a good payasam and paan. The menu is expensive considering average meals for Indian standard, however we would happily pay for it again. Quantity was even excessive and we were offered the opportunity to repeat our favorite dishes. The staff was very attentive and polite. At some points I would say the service was too fast but good overall. The ambience is a little bit old fashioned but comfortable, even though the music was too loud. Overall it is a very recommendable experience, specially for those willing to discover authentic Indian dishes in a safe and tranquil environment (tourist friendly).
Doctor N — Google review
While the ambiance and aesthetics of the restaurant are truly impressive — I’d easily give them a full 100 points for that — the dining experience overall was quite disappointing. None of the dishes we ordered met expectations. The veggie soup was essentially just water with vegetables, lacking any real flavor. Both the dal tadka and the kadai vegetable curry were unnecessarily heavy with cream, which made the experience quite amusing in a way. All the fried items — baby corn, paneer, and vendakkai — came in seriously stingy portions, especially considering the premium pricing. Seriously never seen a fine dining restaurant servicing starter with ketchup. On a positive note, the serving staff and waiters did an okay job explaining the specials and assisting where needed, although they didn’t really make an effort when it came to actually serving the food. Overall, despite the beautiful setting, I wouldn't return for the food.
Sindhuja C — Google review
Wow!! Totally surprised. Beautiful decor and ambience. Whole place smelled so good (either incense or some room fragrance). Staff were so polite and friendly. Service was top notch. Food was good. It wasnt extraordinary. If you opt for the unlimited thali, skip on the appetizers as you can fill yourselves up and wont have room for the main course. Will definitely come back. Whole family enjoyed the experience.
Vijay K — Google review
They have once of the greatest ambiance in the chennai city. The food is very pricey thou and the thali has all regular south/North Indian dishes (nothing too fancy). They also don’t allow sharing thali, if you are 5 people then you need to pay for 5 Thalis
Ashish K — Google review
Excellent service. Taste was really top notch. All items are good. But the quantity n variety is too heavy for a fixed menu. Because on weekends there is no ala carte menu. So for kids n old people it is too heavy. They can avoid using plastic water bottles. Can have a few more waiting chairs at reception. Car parking the assistance has to be a bit more quick. Overall a nice experience but not affordable for a middle class audience.
Manikandan R — Google review
The decor of the restaurant is top class, very fine paintings everywhere etc, but I cannot understand the pricing.. 1200 rupees for a thaali, outrageous and a rip off - the food tastes no different to wherever else I ate in Chennai. Cannot understand what the fuss is all about this place.
Naven P — Google review
Been to this restaurant recently. Had a great scrumptious lunch and was really satisfied. The staff service is also good. Even though the price is expensive, it's still worth it.
Surya R — Google review
The ambience was undeniably beautiful. Too expensive (1700 rupees / meal). That too for a vegetarian meal. After charging this much we were told that the menu doesn't include fruit juices. They start with sweet and fried items as starters. There was manglore Bonda and baby corn fritters . The starters fills your stomach. The remaining meal is just like samples served in table spoons. Even if they can serve more, you cannot eat as your stomach is already full. The quantity food served/ practically consumed will be 1/4th of what can be consumed usually in a normal restaurant. The overall value for money was non-existent. The cost of the food was completely disproportionate to its quality and quantity. They are more focused on their décor than actually offering good food and service. The food was not bad but didn’t live up to the hype or price tag.

If you're on the hunt for a culinary adventure, look no further than Pan Asian, one of the city's standout dining spots. This restaurant offers an extensive menu that showcases a delightful fusion of flavors from across Asia, including China, Thailand, and Japan. Thanks to ITC's innovative delivery app—Gourmet Couch—you can now enjoy these exquisite dishes right at home.
Tasted an amazing array of delicious food from all China as a part of the tasting menu … tried few of the dim sums too. Every item was fresh and stands out on their own merit. Service from Zika was understated excellence . Very satisfying experience

Pan Asian at ITC Grand Chola is a culinary haven that truly elevates the dining experience. From the moment you enter, the ambiance speaks luxury — a sophisticated setting with warm lighting, stylish interiors, and an open kitchen that lets you witness the magic of Asian culinary artistry unfold. The service is impeccable, with staff who are both courteous and knowledgeable, making every guest feel welcomed and pampered. The menu is a celebration of the finest Pan-Asian cuisines, offering an impressive array of delicacies from Japan, China, Thailand, Korea, and beyond. Each dish is a masterpiece — beautifully plated and bursting with authentic flavors. Highlights like the dim sums, sushi platters, Thai green curry, and Korean barbeque are executed to perfection. The chefs clearly pay close attention to detail, using fresh, high-quality ingredients and balancing flavors with finesse. Whether you're indulging in a quiet dinner or hosting a special celebration, Pan Asian offers an experience that is both memorable and luxurious. Their wine and sake pairings, along with vegetarian and gluten-free options, make it suitable for every palate. It’s not just a meal — it’s an exquisite journey through Asia, right in the heart of Chennai. Highly recommended for those who crave authentic tastes and five-star elegance. K.vinothkumar

Fine dining at its finest—if you're into soupy tap water with noodles, oily fried mystery bites, and desserts that taste like disappointment. Vegetarians, beware: your only option might be the menu itself. Wines are priced like real estate. Perfect place to go if you love paying a bomb to be underwhelmed.

Highly recommended! This spot offers the best Asian food and delicious cocktails. The prawn dish was an absolute highlight! Plus, the magician provided great entertainment with some amazing tricks.

Fantastic experience! Expensive but food was great and was worth it. I would highly recommend this place if you are in and around ITC. The prawns we had were almost perfectly cooked. Everything we ordered were fresh and excellent! Service was as expected - wonderful! ITC itself was mind blowing and we loved everything about the place.
Shiva K — Google review
Really great Asian dining in chennai. I had Japanese, thai and Chinese dishes. All plated really well and tasted just as good. Surprisingly good sushi, the thai and Chinese adequately spiced and really vibrant flavours overall. Will highly recommend Pan Asian if you in chennai. Price is on the high side, but its really worth it. The venue, the decor, the service as well as the ingredients and the dishes itself are all top drawer. You get what you pay for here, give it a try.

Great food Attentive service Beautiful dining room The dim sum are excellent, very delicately made with fresh ingredients. The teppanyaki fried rice with chicken is prepared to perfection. The crispy duck with little pancakes is very generous and filling. The drink menu is quite exhaustive.

All the food we ordered here were excellent and beautifully plated. Spicing in the dishes were mild and flavourful. If I had one complaint it was poor service but considering my general good experience with ITC I’m assuming it’s a one off due to the Christmas crowds.

Madras Pavilion, located in the ITC Grand Chola, is a top buffet restaurant in Chennai. It offers a diverse menu featuring South and North Indian, Mediterranean, Asian, and international cuisines. The restaurant's opulent environment with carved marble walls and thematic seating areas like Love Seats and the Crown provides an ideal setting for fine dining. With its variety of thalis available, it's considered one of the best places to enjoy a royal dining experience in Chennai.
It's true to its 5 star status.! Only that there was big group of people of a family in the lobby being loud & making too much noise , obviously excited about taking their pictures. I request & wish the staff politely takes care of it.

I were been in chennai for more than 11 years. While I cross this place, I used to dream to have food atleast once here. It's such a hype in my mind. But while I visited here. Am totally surprised with disappointment. Firstly, I will have to tell the ambience is soo good and the inner marble looks like am in some premium place. It's worth the hype. But I haven't visited this place just for ambience but to have lunch buffet in Madras Pavilion. First of all, the place of this restaurant is itself not so good. It's very conjusted and small place. Am sitting in a chair and it is too close to some stall. People always walk near me. The table which we sat was not in level. It is keep on shaking. Then the dishes, variety was very very less compared to some typical buffet places. That's OK it's premium place. Atleast that less variety should be good to eat right? That's not and am totally disappointed by that moment. Most of the dishes are at below average in taste including desserts. Trust me usual buffet BBQ like abs BBQ, coal bbq etc is far far better that this in terms of variety and taste. Am pretty sure that who ever visit here only focusing on food, you will be disappointed. You charged 400rs for a 40rs sprite tin. If you are that much premium, you should justify it with food 😅

I went to Madras Pavilion restaurant for my Birthday Lunch😊 My best birthday ever ❤️❤️ had an amazing experience 😊

The restaurant exudes a regal charm tastefully designed with an ambience that reflects true sophistication. The standard of upkeep is impeccable, meeting international benchmarks with ease. I was particularly struck by the gracious and attentive manner in which guests are welcomed, it sets the tone beautifully. What truly stood out was the thoughtful curation of the menu. The vegetarian starters, often overlooked elsewhere, were both abundant and well conceived. A few lacked visual flair, but their execution and flavour were exceptional. It’s rare to find such depth in vegetarian offerings. The dessert selection was nothing short of exquisite refined, indulgent, and genuinely memorable. Each one crafted with precision and flair. Service was pleasant and professional overall, though a touch more attentiveness would elevate the experience further. In sum, a distinguished dining experience marked by elegance, variety, and a commendable commitment to quality

Enjoyed my food during my stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner all are buffet. Items are limited when compare to other start hotels but given items tastes good. Both lunch and dinner three varieties of briyani was available special mention kadai gravy. Menu can be different for breakfast and some of the items also not available.both in lunch and dinner deserts taste was awesome. I have booked in packing so it was good for me if you are coming directly for dinner r lunch it's not worth for given menu

The food is really great. Chur chur porottas, Kerala porottas, stuffed parathas are tasty and nice. Chicken curry, mutton curry, Afgani kebab are well done and has soft boneless pieces. The ambience is good.
Preetham A — Google review
It's a nice restaurant with some unique dishes from each region of India. At the same time , not all the dishes are exactly authentic ( of that local origin), which is quite understandable ( This part could definitely improve). The ambience was good. I would rate its service as excellent but also costed us 1k + per person for a group of 7.

One of those places which serves dishes from all over the country. Their menu keep changing over the time. I have been their loyal customer from the day opened in chennai. I personally feel that they should work on the menu to accommodate more dishes especially their dessert menu. The Galouti kebab is the best in chennai by far. No complaints on the taste. Their service is always quick and neat.

Great place for dinner with friends/family. Nicely decorated and staff is attentive. Food was ok, we really liked some of the dishes like the starters/chaat but others like the curry were not the best (too much oil and spices). The vegetarian options were delicious.

Bombay brasserie, a fine fine restaurant that serves North Indian cuisine with a decent spread on the menu. They have a very good dining capacity that can occupy around 50 people and the place was crowded when we dined. Coming to the service it was okay, maybe not that great but as well as not too bad as I have experienced better service than them. The food was good, some were really great and some were a tad disappointing. We loved the mutton there as it was well cooked and so tender. The portion was decent but was a little pricey. Overall a decent experience but would try them again as I still have few varieties to try from them.

Kappa Chakka Kandhari is a popular restaurant known for its traditional Kerala fare and seafood specialties, served in a casual and family-friendly environment. The name of the restaurant comes from the three main ingredients unique to Kerala's cuisine: Tapioca, Jackfruit, and bird's eye chili (Kandhari). Spanning two floors, this eatery offers an authentic taste of Kerala for a new generation. The menu showcases the diverse range of dishes found in Kerala.
We ordered their chef tasting menu. As this is a regional Kerala cuisine special restaurant, I did not like the food that much. The main reason for this is that my pallet is probably not meant for eating this. But I loved some items. and the dessert coconut pudding was amazing. The service was amazing. We ordered aapam for our son, he ate 2 portions. Alvin is a very good host. Lots of love ❤❤❤❤❤

We recently had dinner at this restaurant and the experience was wonderful. The food tasted amazing, and it truly felt like enjoying Kerala’s authentic cuisine in Chennai. The Fish Moilee was rich and flavorful, the squid was perfectly cooked, and the deep-fried crab was crispy and delicious. To end the meal, the Palada Payasam was the perfect sweet treat. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality and authentic Kerala taste make it worth it. If you are craving Kerala-style food in Chennai, I would definitely recommend visiting this place at least once. Thank you.

A very decent place for a decent crowd. Secondly this place has lot of hype and frankly not worth the hype which it has created. It’s completely Kerala cuisine restaurant. Typical Kerala type dishes, no chance of any local food. Food tastes good, especially all mutton based dishes are great. But too expensive for the portion ( very little) what they offer.

Stumbled upon this restaurant and to our surprise it was amazing! We throughly enjoyed Kerala cuisine here and the staff were friendly and polite. The food was served hot and fresh. We enjoyed our food here.

Man without the recommendation of my Malyali friends I wouldn't have a clue about this place, we had almost a bit of everything from the menu. Lovely and unique and i am grateful to be introduced to this cruise from here. the rice balls, pudding and especially the chicken here is outstanding to go with rice. The seafood is also really nice. You gonna enjoy this experience for sure.

KCK has become a legendary place in Chennai for Kerala food. The food was incredible. We had kallushop chicken and prawns for starters, the prawn was a real show stealer. We added in a serving of avoli fry (white pomfret). The fish was deep fried but incredibly soft inside. For main course, we ordered a serving of white rice and red rice to split among four people and paired it with a chatti meen curry. A lovely mild fish curry with a coconut milk base and two Karimeens soaking in the flavours was a filling dish. We also tried the mutton potato curry. I wasn't a fan of the gravy but the mutton was so tender and melt-in-the-mouth. For drinks, we tried the sharjah shake, KCK's take on the banana smoothie. It was a bit too sweet for me but I gulped it down nevertheless. We finished the meal with tender coconut pudding. Very light, just the right amount of sweetness with the comfort of a pana cotta's texture. My mother had the paruppu Payasam which she wiped off in minutes. It is a bit pricey but a great place for festival get togethers. Our only suggestion would be to make the air conditioning stronger. There's plenty to make the body sweat: waiting time, jam packed restaurant, the flavours of the food. Help out your customers a bit there too!

Wow, what an experience at Kappa Chakka Kandhari in Chennai! They serve authentic Kerala cuisine, but with a twist that makes every dish feel fresh and exciting. Being South Indian, I’m quite familiar with the cuisine, yet I was genuinely surprised at how beautifully it was presented and how incredible everything tasted. We opted for their tasting menu, which included a generous spread of starters and mains. Each preparation truly blew my mind. If you’re a fan of South Indian non-veg food, this place is an absolute must-try!

Delicious food, both the menu and a la carte option, is worth a try. I really enjoyed the fish menu but all food is very delicious. Very friendly staff and they give very good recommendations! Pictures are for 2 visits so yes, it was so good I had to come back.

South Indian restaurant
Ratna Cafe, established in 1948 in Triplicane, Chennai, is a renowned South Indian eatery known for its classic offerings in a traditional setting. The cafe's generous servings of sambar with soft idlis and flavorful dosas have made it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. While the cafe has expanded to other parts of Chennai, its flagship location in Triplicane remains popular.
Very good restaurant. We visited this place in the night around 8:30pm. Was quite crowded. We ordered idly with sambar and sambar vada, basundhi, filter coffee. The sambar was as always top notch and with more quantity. We also had a set of poori. Poori was very soft and the potato side was always tasty. Sambar vada had 2 pieces in it , the size of vada was big in size. It was very filling for one person.Basundhi was so good, chill and nice to finish as a dessert. The staffs and service was good and quick, didn't need to wait for long time. We sat in the AC area in the ground floor. Non- AC is also available. Handwashing area is a bit dirt but otherwise fine with everything else. Must try place!

Food tastes good I don't think there is any question in that. The idly practically dissolves in your mouth and the coffee tastes good too. However the ambience is very poor. Now I understand that Ratna Cafe is a very old restaurant but it's about time you renovate this place because the restroom sucks. And everything is just old and bad and unclean. So for ambience alone I give this place a 3 stars even though it deserves 5. Menu does have a lot of items but the best seller is idly and it's always crowded so keep that in mind. Service deserves a shoutout as despite the huge crowd food gets served before you know it. But avoid buying sweets here as it doesn't look fresh and it looks 4 days old.

Seems like a famous place but when I ate their idli, it was pretty average. I mean , there wasn't anything special in it. Just a normal Idli whuch you'd get anywhere. I would rate Sangeetha restaurant better compared to this, taste wise as well as accompaniment (3 types of chutneys)
Sankalp D — Google review
What a food…! Excellent taste and texture. Idly sambar combo was a must try item. This place is situated near marina beach so while going that way all you guys go there and try it out. I swear it’s been a nice experience.

"Visited this quaint restaurant and had an amazing experience! Their signature Sambar Idli is a must-try, tastes exactly like homemade Sambar. The flavors are spot on and the idlis are soft and fluffy.A comforting and delicious meal!"

Best place in Chennai to have proper authentic south Indian food by far! Loved the Sambar here... It was just perfect. I had Idli smbar, Vada sambar, Pongal, dosa for breakfast. Everything tasted perfect and very fresh. The filter coffee was just wow. Also went here again to have lunch. Again.. Loved the lunch here, the proper south Indian food tasted sooo delicious. And the prices are very much affordable. Much much recommended to have breakfast n lunch here if you want to taste heavenly sambar.

I had a very disappointing experience at Ratna Cafe, Triplicane today. We ordered 8 plates of Masala Dosa, and the cashier confirmed the order. After paying the full amount (₹978 as per the bill attached), we were made to wait for around 10 minutes, only to be told "stock over." They forced us to change our order to Podi Onion Dosa, charged extra, and still made us wait more than 20 minutes. To make things worse, while we were sitting, the cleaning lady rudely asked us to move to another place - totally disrespectful! This kind of poor management, lack of coordination, and rude behavior is unacceptable for a restaurant with such a big name. They didn't even bother to apologize for the inconvenience. Totally not worth the hvne. Be careful before visiting.

South Indian restaurant
Savya Rasa is a high-end dining establishment that specializes in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian South Indian cuisine. The restaurant has dedicated years to learning from professional chefs, local sources, homemakers, and grandmothers to ensure the authenticity of their dishes. In addition to serving traditional Chennai cuisine, Savya Rasa offers a diverse range of dishes from regions such as Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Mangalore.
Food and service was great, we tried thengapal rasam, pallipalayam kalan, paalkatti chettinad and bun parotta. Every dish we had was worth the price. Jun sheikh’s service was extraordinary. Place is also very aesthetically pleasing. Everyone over there were dressed in dhotis giving a proper South Indian vibe. Atlast we were given betel leaves with paan - which we initially denied, but then we couldn’t stop having it once we tried.

I recently visited Savya Rasa and was impressed by their diverse selection of South Indian dishes. The food was delicious, with each bite bursting with flavor. However, I found the prices to be slightly on the higher side. Overall, it's a great spot for South Indian cuisine, but you might need to budget a bit extra.

Ummm. Well, I'm not sure what to feel about this experience. In short, it was a huge letdown. I had been waiting to visit this restaurant and made a reservation for a birthday lunch on a weekday. It was still crowded, so reservations are always recommended. The place has no proper ventilation; I'm not sure if the AC was running or not. I was sweating profusely due to the heat and spice, and it felt suffocating. They seated us at a four-table setup split into two in a corner next to the kitchen, which might have been due to that. I'm giving two stars for the staff, who were trying to help us, but they do lack professionalism and the person who served us was unnecessarily talkative. As for the food, it's no value for money at such an exorbitant price. Although we enjoyed the Thengai Paal Rasam, everything else we ordered was nothing special. Nei Choru - Nei (ghee) was non-existent. Chinna vengaiyam chicken was juicy and nice. Bun parotta was flaky and soft. As for the Meen Mangai Curry (A whopping 795 Rs.) we had to literally fish out the 3 fish pieces, when enquired, we were told, it is how it is and then the Kamarkat drink had a huge chunk of ice despite our request for less ice. It tasted like flavored sparkling water and wasn't punchy or flavorful. The Palkatti Chettinad was spicy and salty. I asked the staff beforehand if it will be mild and not so spicy, he said yes. I've dined at similar restaurants with great experiences, but this was nothing extraordinary despite the decor and themed interior. I think I could get the same food for less than half of what we paid. I'd suggest improving the quality and quantity of food for the almost 5-star hotel pricing. Having recommended this restaurant to our foreign friends and clients before experiencing it myself, I think I should have thought about it. It's not about the money; it's about the value that we get out of it, which sadly, we didn't.

Savya Rasa offers authentic South Indian flavors and the overall taste was impressive. However, the fish masala had a slightly bitter taste, and the Prices are quite high, so not a place for frequent visits, but worth trying once. Still, a nice place to experience traditional cuisine.

The food is so delicious, every bite gives a feeling of genuinety of ingredients used and light on the spice yet very very tasty. The ambience is next level and feels like a home. We were attended by staff Ram Kumar who was excellent in talking care of from the time we entered to the time we left. This restaurant has become my personal favourite and a must visit every time I’m in chennai.

Had a worst experience in this restaurant. I am stating about its price range as the food's taste, Portion or service was not apt comparing its price value. They Served us old batch of biryani which was predominant. We raised this concern to them and the staffs were like "our biriyani tastes like this" after couple of arguments they have given us a fresh batch of biryani. Not sure how people are running crooked business that too in F&B. The items which I posted in photos all tasted average. Nothing special in this restaurant except their price. Not only complaining about their price because in Chennai I have been to many South Indian cuisine restaurants which are heavily charging than this place but those place will be value for money. At the last shift manager came and talked with us regarding the inconvenience.

We had the below food for lunch and were quite content with all of them. Vaazhappoo Vadai Urundai kuzhambu Egg Chettinad Urulai podi varuval Egg omlette Neychoru Boiled rice Karumbu juice Pallipalayam Mushroom Everything worked except that this restaurant doesn't serve South Indian Thali on weekends and dishes are costly. Ambience is very good with comfortable chair and table. Retro style and the on time service needs a special mention . Vaththal was served as complimentary dish. So I don't recommend this restaurant for frequent dining due to its overpriced dishes
Premkumar E — Google review
This is a typical dining experience. Restaurant is located on the main road with valet parking. Gives a good Chettinadu feel about the ambience with false pillars, windows of vertical metal grills. The waiters are dressed in white dhoti and shirt adding to the traditional appeal. They are very courteous and prompt in taking orders and servicing them. We have tried Thengai Paal Rasam, Chinna Vengayam Kozhi, Coin parotta with Mutton thokku, Kheema Muttilu, Keeranur Kozhi Biryani, Bun parotta, Milagu Kozhi Chettinadu, Paal Payasam and Ilaneer pudding. The taste and flavor of all the items were excellent. Especially kheema muttilu which is mutton kola urundai tasted very good. Biryani had a fresh aroma and mildly spicy which makes it a god choice for kids served with coconut raita. Parotta was soft and fluffy. The cost is slightly on the higher side given the location but it's worth it. I would definitely visit again.

Chennai International Airport, located just 7 km from the city center, serves as a major transportation hub with domestic and international flights. It is well-connected to various cities in India and abroad, offering direct flights from across the country. Despite some cleanliness issues in certain areas like restrooms, the airport boasts cultural structures and a lack of unnecessary advertisements. Efforts are being made to improve infrastructure and maintain cleanliness for an enhanced travel experience.
Chennai International Airport is truly impressive – beautifully designed with a perfect blend of modern interiors, traditional temple-inspired architecture, and a refreshing touch of nature. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, making the experience warm and welcoming. The airport is neat, well-maintained, and thoughtfully organized, with a spacious baggage claim area that ensures smooth travel. Even the washrooms are very neat and clean and with no bad smell. Every part of the airport is worthy of a selfie. So this is a wonderful gateway to Chennai and India!

Review 1 (4 Stars - Positive, focusing on connectivity and recent improvements) Title: Improved Experience with Great Connectivity! Chennai International Airport has definitely stepped up its game! My recent travels through MAA have been much smoother. The new facilities are a welcome change, and the overall cleanliness has improved significantly. What truly stands out is the excellent connectivity to the city via the Metro. It's incredibly convenient to reach the airport and get into the city without hassle. While there can still be queues during peak times, the staff are generally polite and helpful. A good experience overall, making it a reliable gateway to Chennai.

The domestic terminal at Chennai Airport has improved a lot and offers a smooth travel experience. The check-in and security process is well organized, staff are polite and helpful, and the facilities are clean and well maintained. There are plenty of food and shopping options to keep you comfortable while waiting for your flight. The terminal is spacious, signage is clear, and baggage handling is efficient. Overall, it’s a hassle-free and pleasant experience compared to many other busy airports. A well-managed airport that truly makes traveling through Chennai convenient and comfortable. Highly recommended!

I recently visited the airport and had a mixed experience. The washrooms, although clean, were lacking in one crucial aspect - there was no handwash available. This was quite disappointing, especially considering the importance of hygiene in public places. On a more positive note, the airport had a good selection of shops, including a bookshop that caught my eye. The presence of these shops added a touch of convenience and comfort to my travel experience. To improve, I would suggest ensuring that all washrooms are fully stocked with essentials like handwash. Overall, the airport had its strengths and weaknesses, and with a few tweaks, it could provide an even better experience for travelers like me. *Rating:* 3/5 stars *Recommendation:* Ensure all washrooms have handwash and other essential amenities
Shivangi R — Google review
Chennai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in South India and offers a comfortable travel experience. The airport is well-structured with both domestic and international terminals conveniently connected. Check-in counters and security checks are generally smooth, and staff are courteous and ready to assist. Inside the terminals, the cleanliness and maintenance are commendable. Seating arrangements are good, and the air conditioning keeps the environment comfortable even during peak hours. The airport provides a wide range of food courts, coffee shops, and restaurants serving both South Indian and international cuisines, making it convenient for travelers during long waits. There are also several duty-free shops, convenience stores, and lounges, which add to the comfort. Clear signboards and digital screens make navigation easy, even for first-time travelers. Facilities like baggage handling, restrooms, currency exchange, and prepaid taxi counters are well managed. Accessibility is another strong point—the airport is connected to the city by taxis, metro, and buses, making onward travel easy. Overall, Chennai Airport provides a safe, clean, and efficient travel experience and continues to improve with modern upgrades.

Chennai Airport is one of the busiest airports in South India and offers a good overall travel experience. The terminals are modern, clean, and well-maintained, with clear signboards in multiple languages for easy navigation. Check-in and security procedures are generally efficient, and the staff is courteous and helpful. There’s a wide range of food courts, cafés, and retail outlets offering both local and international options. The restrooms and waiting areas are clean, and seating availability has improved a lot. Baggage delivery is usually on time, though during peak hours, there can be some delays. The connectivity to the city is convenient with taxis, metro, and other transport options available right outside the terminal. Parking space is ample and organized.
Nikhil J — Google review
Chennai International Airport has a mixed reputation. Positive aspects include cleanliness in domestic terminals, smooth departure processes, good food options, and well-maintained facilities. However, the airport faces criticism for poor connectivity between terminals and parking, limited WiFi access for international passengers, lack of sufficient dining and shopping options in the international terminal, and issues with staff behavior and infrastructure. Overall, it seems better for domestic travel but needs improvements for international travelers to meet global standards.

Chennai International Airport (MAA) is the principal air gateway to South India and is currently undergoing a massive transformation. This makes for an experience of stark contrasts between modern aesthetics and persistent operational challenges. 🌟 The Strengths: Modernization and Connectivity New International Terminal (T2/NITB): The recently inaugurated Terminal is the airport's standout feature. It is spacious, boasts impressive architecture inspired by South Indian temples, and offers a clean, contemporary environment. This new section significantly improves the first and last impressions for international travelers. Excellent City Connectivity: MAA scores high on ground transportation. The airport is seamlessly connected to the city via the Chennai Metro Rail (Blue Line), making it highly convenient and affordable to reach the city center. Prepaid taxis, ride-sharing services (Ola/Uber kiosks), and local buses are also readily available. On-Time Performance (OTP): Despite infrastructure constraints, MAA has historically maintained strong on-time performance for departures, indicating efficient airside operations. Comfort Amenities: The airport offers several comfortable lounges (Travel Club Lounge, Air India Maharaja Lounge) and a Sleepzo sleeping pod facility in the domestic arrivals hall for those needing hourly rest. 🚧 The Challenges: Operations and Consistency Operational Bottlenecks: This is the most consistent point of friction. Security screening and immigration often suffer from long queues, inadequate staffing at peak times, and slow processing. Old Terminal Areas: The older domestic terminals (T1 and T4) can feel congested and dated, particularly during rush hours. Wayfinding and Staff Communication: Signage can be confusing, and travelers frequently report difficulties with staff providing incorrect directions or struggling to communicate effectively in English, especially at security checkpoints. Cleanliness Consistency: While the new terminals are generally clean, traveler complaints about the cleanliness and maintenance of older restrooms and common areas during busy periods persist. 🍽️ Dining and Lounges Dining options are adequate, ranging from local South Indian cuisine to fast-food chains. Retail options are available, but some travelers feel the duty-free and general shopping selections are uninspired or overpriced compared to other regional hubs. The paid lounges offer a necessary escape from the main concourse congestion. Summary MAA is an airport with one foot in the past and one foot firmly in the future. If your journey involves the new international Terminal 2, you will likely have a positive experience. However, travelers should anticipate potential friction during security and check-in processes and always allow for ample buffer time. The excellent Metro link is the single best feature for ground transit.
