Lochinver Larder

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
Lochinver Larder is a charming riverfront restaurant and takeaway known for its delectable meat, sweet, and fish pies as well as sandwiches. Established in 1986 by Ian and Debra Stewart, it initially started as a deli offering takeaway sandwiches before expanding into a B&B and eventually a restaurant with picturesque views of the loch.
Hands down the best pies I've tasted, filled to the right amount and thinish pastry, making it the best combination. We had a steak and ale and also a chicken, Haggis and peppercorn! It's just amazing. We sat outside along the shoreline whilst enjoying a local beer and cider, also purchased there! I would definitely recommend making a stop to try!
Ange G — Google review
A great selection of pies, with both classic and more unexpected fillings. We tried the steak & ale, chicken, haggis & peppercorn, chicken curry, bolognese, and creamy pesto chicken - all full of flavour. We also picked up a couple of sweet pies, though we’ve yet to try those. I wouldn’t go as far as calling them the best pies in the world, but they were certainly tasty and well worth a visit if you’re in the area or passing by.
Jamie M — Google review
If you're a fan of proper homemade pies, this place is an absolute must-visit. The pies here are to die for — hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We tried the steak and ale and the cauliflower pie, and both were incredible. The steak and ale was rich and tender, with a perfectly flaky crust, while the cauliflower pie was packed with flavor and a great vegetarian option. It’s the kind of comforting, satisfying food that leaves you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates top-quality homemade cooking!
Mark C — Google review
Sooo much choice! Loads of veggie and meat options. We had ours cold on a walk as picnic but I’d probably eat in next time or warm up at home. Quite expensive but they are huge and filled to the brim. The chocolate/pear/almond was the best of everything we had!! Warmed up in the oven.
Libby W — Google review
Really great pies and a great choice of fillings. The pie with side salad and coleslaw (£11.95) was plenty for lunch so good value. Staff were friendly and helpful. The dining area and toilets could be improved but I think delivery may be the main focus of the business which would explain a more basic eat-in offering.
Jade F — Google review
We took away, but selected heated option! They have amazing seating area outside and the weather was sunny and beautiful! Best pies I’ve personally tried, plenty of options including vegan and sweet ones! 🙌🙌🙌 Should be a must visit place in everyone’s plan
Peter K — Google review
We did the nc500 over the October half term , and this is one of the stops I had planned, wasn’t disappointed, friendly staff and really nice food , I had the chicken and haggis pie , we got there for around opening, and within half an hour all the tables were full so I advise to get here early , you can park directly outside the front but not many places there due to size of the road, we parked a minutes walk down the road in the public car park, plenty of space there
Shaun O — Google review
OH MY GOODNESS! The pies, the pies were so good! So much so we ordered some savoury pies to takeaway.. Perfectly filled with amazing pastry… nope you aren’t hearing anything more about them… go find out for yourself! BEST PIES OF THE HIGHLANDS!

Seafood restaurant
Peet's Restaurant is a popular dining spot in the Lochinver region near Achmelvich Beach, Scotland. The restaurant offers an amazing menu with a focus on fresh seafood, including a fish of the day option. Visitors rave about the incredibly fresh and delicious scallops, mussels, chicken, haggis, and langoustine dishes. The staff is known for being friendly and helpful with local recommendations. Guests appreciate the high quality of food and service at reasonable prices.
We had a great dinner after finding this place by coincidence. The chef made the mussels without cream for me, [ lactose intolerant], and I'm grateful bc it was extremely tasty. Will totally recommend to pay a visit if you are around the area.

This is a great restaurant, one I would highly recommend, We had the shared seafood platter with some great starters. Staff were so lovely, food was on point and the atmosphere was lively. Had a great night! Most enjoyable!

Came here for a birthday meal with my partner and we were blown away! Absolutely fantastic food and great service all round. HIGHLY recommend the seared king scallops with pork scratching, chorizo oil and cauliflower puree!
Jacob D — Google review
Nice restaurant, nice staff, we pre booked on the website it was easy. Fish and chips were good we couldn't eat anything afterwards. A woman near us was having trouble with her order of mussels near us and the staff really went above and beyond for her so I give this place a 5/5
Jamie — Google review
Fantastic atmosphere, great choices on the menu and the food was amazing. Salmon bruschetta, langoustines and then the toasted marshmallow dessert all were fabulous!!
Duncan T — Google review
Food was excellent. Staff brilliant. We booked the restaurant about 2 months before we visited. Nearer the date of our visit, we noticed the restaurant was closed for holidays. When we phoned, the owner advised that they were honouring our booking and that of another party of 7. Despite us stating we would arrange something else, they insisted. This attitude of the restaurant was further enhanced by the visit . The food, service and staff were excellent.
Ian M — Google review
Great find in a small fishing village. Would advise you to book in the evening. Lovely staff, very friendly and professional. The food is freshly cooked, good sized portions, hot food, warm plates. Scallops the best I have eaten in a long time. Venison sausage recommend too.
Sue P — Google review
Full up even in late October - testimony to well-deserved reputation. I agree with the many favourable reviews of food and service. Despite being busy it was quiet enough to be able to talk comfortably. My one quibble: I would have liked more vegetarian options for the main courses.

Kylesku Hotel

Hotel

Restaurant
Kylesku Hotel is a traditional coaching inn offering polished rooms, some with stunning loch views, and a seafood restaurant. Guests have raved about the excellent early evening meals with perfect views down the loch. The restaurant offers great food served promptly, such as monkfish curry and brisket burgers. The staff are described as attentive and helpful, creating a perfect dining experience. Despite being in the off-season, the staff were accommodating and provided an enjoyable atmosphere.
Absolutely fantastic. I’ve told everyone back home about this place. Their staff, cleanliness, meals, all amazing. All around the best place I’ve ever stumbled across and that was in the offseason! The food alone was easily top five out of hundreds of places in Europe and all over the U.S. and let me tell you, I’ve had some great food. The staff while we were eating came and told us the northern lights were showing! We lived like royalty for 15 hours while here, truly worry free, comfortable and well fed! Another cool part, it was affordable. Yes I’m sure the busy season is more expensive, and we did splurge a little while here, but it was very very affordable. We ate and slept for the same amount we paid just to sleep 8 hours and shower at some other hotels while on our trip, but with better beds, and cleaner rooms. We will be back soon and I’m sure it will be the highlight of our next trip to Scotland!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Unforgettable Stay at Kylesku Hotel! I can’t recommend the Kylesku Hotel enough! The location is absolutely breathtaking, with stunning views of the lochs and surrounding mountains. The welcome was warm and genuine – we instantly felt at home. Our room was charming, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, with thoughtful little touches that made the stay even more special. The restaurant deserves a special mention: every dish was delicious, showcasing fresh local ingredients, especially the seafood – an absolute delight from start to finish! This is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, and recharge in a peaceful, elegant setting. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable stay – we will definitely be back

Lovely hotel in a stunning location. This was an overnight stop on our NC500 trip. The location is absolutely stunning and very peaceful, with beautiful views of the Loch from the restaurant, bar, lounge and some rooms. Fresh modern feel to the hotel, which is very clean. Friendly staff. The restaurant serves lovely food. Breakfast and evening menu has seafood on offer, some of which is caught from the Loch. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, but next time I’ll book a room with a Loch view!
Jim W — Google review
Absolutely stunning views from the room and the public areas. We saw a seal at breakfast time! The rooms have a Scandi/Scots vibe that is relaxing and welcoming. Genuinely the most comfortable bed I've slept in for ages. Lovely ensuite with gorgeous toiletries. Courteous and efficient staff who could not have been more helpful. Special mention to chef and team as the food is gorgeous. Definitely a fish and seafood lover's heaven.
Rachel S — Google review
Had the impression they needed some more staff, although the staff were really friendly and helpful at all times. We found the food prices a little high for the quality of food served. A problem we encountered was all the Highland coast hotels have similar menus so the choice was the same in all three hotels we stayed in.
Del W — Google review
This is the 5th hotel we have stayed in on our road trip, so far. It is, by far the most disappointing. No way is this a £340 a night hotel. We stayed in Willie's Hoos with the dog. The room was average, at best. The bathroom had rotten wood all round the shower. The bed and pillows were rock hard. At half 5 yesterday afternoon, a coach load of tourists were dropped off and the coach sat outside our room with the engine running. This morning, there were no tables set for breakfast in the dog friendly area. When we did get sat for breakfast, the septic tank lorry turned up and emptied the tank just the other side of the window where we were sitting. At check out time, the bill wasn't ready, the card machine wasn't charged up. An expensive Fawlty Towers trip! We stayed, two nights ago at the sister hotel in Brora. That one is 100% better and worth every penny.
Claire C — Google review
Stopped here for lunch on our NC500 trip. Delicious local food, not cheap but definitely worth the money. Fantastic friendly staff and views over the water. Would definitely come back.
Sarah B — Google review
Rooms are fine, water temperature in shower is variable and very unpleasant. Very expensive for what it is but with little else around there's not much choice. Food in restaurant is pleasant but some bar staff (one male in particular) are curt and a little stand offish. Overall, I'd say 'mutton dressed as lamb' is an accurate term for this hotel based off multiple experiences with it over several years. Nice deck outside and big glass fronted dining areas makes it.

Bydand

$$$$affordable
European restaurant
Bydand is a standout restaurant in Thurso, offering a simple yet diverse menu with well-presented and flavorful meals. While it may be on the pricier side, the dining experience is definitely worth it. The attentive service and exceptional food make it a top choice for visitors, with highlights such as smoked salmon, shredded beef, and delightful desserts.
Excellent food, service, presentation and taste! Great range of Orkney beers as well. Loved the chef's canape of a beetroot meringue and the elderflower sorbet! Beef and salmon really really tasty. A great find. Book now!
Strong C — Google review
My husband and I dined here, the food was incredible! One of the best dinners we have had in a long time. Service was lovely, and a beautiful place to sit by the open fire. Cannot recommend enough.
Tracy K — Google review
Very delicious meal here. It was a 2 course menu with good choices for both starters and mains. The Shetland Mussels as one of the starters were fabulous, but the Sea Bass my hubby had was so perfectly cooked I wished I could have had both! Or mains were the slow cooked beef and the Chicken that tasted how chicken used to! No space for dessert we were too full. A nice wine and an Orkney beer were also enjoyed. Friendly service. Great place.
Allyson A — Google review
Had a great dinner for two here, a simple and compact menu with plenty to choose from. The meals are very well presented and have amazing flavours. It’s something different from your casual restaurant, that makes it stand out from others in Thurso. Although a bit on the expensive side, a definite recommendation to have your dinner here.
Sander P — Google review
Two course set menu £38. Beautifully cooked, artistically presented with portions so significant that I passed on desert. I had no idea that I was wandering into a fine dining experience. An unexpected gem.
David C — Google review
Absolutely blown away with the food. Great service.
Frazer S — Google review
The place is elegant in its own way, with the right care about design and space. The waiters were always nice and kind. This usually is a good start. I also appreciated the "short menu" (long menus are usually a bad sign). The main problem was the food; the salmon was boiled and the presentation wasn't pleasant (sometimes less is more). The pasta was a complete disaster: wrong recipe, wrong kind of pasta and way overcooked. And on top of the pasta, some kind of salad, that is a multiple mistake; even if we try to ignore the fact that in Italy no one put in the same dish pasta and salad, the heat of the pasta partially cooks the vegetables, giving a bitter taste and losing texture. To complete, it was served in the wrong dish type (there is a technical reason why that dish shouldn't be used for that kind of pasta). The desserts were tasteless, and using too much sugar to cover it was even worse. I can see there is an effort to offer something different, and I can appreciate the "inspiration" to a higher level of restaurant, but you couldn't afford it if you don't manage the basis. About the price; if they managed to prepare those dishes properly, the price could be right, but with this current level of quality sounded just as pretentious. In this case I'm really sorry to give lower rates, because I see the commitment in doing something good, and I would like to reward it, but I can't ignore what we have been served.

The Pier

$$$$affordable
Restaurant
The Pier is a charming waterfront eatery with a relaxed atmosphere and hardworking staff. The menu offers a variety of dishes made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Visitors rave about the deluxe hot chocolate with marshmallows and chocolate chips, as well as the generous portion of fries. The outdoor seating provides stunning views across Loch Shin, making it an ideal spot to enjoy a meal on a sunny day. Despite its popularity, the place maintains its appeal due to its exceptional food and welcoming ambiance.
We stopped for brunch on our way out to the NC500. The staff were lovely as was the food and coffee they were delicious and the view was great! The cakes looked amazing but we were too full to try them.
Clare A — Google review
We had lunch here on Fathers' Day last month. The restaurant was packed with diners, and a queue had formed for those who walked in without reservations. We were seated in the inner part of the restaurant. There was a sheltered, as well as an open outdoor seating area, which was already full with diners. This award-winning restaurant displayed its many accolades on the wall at the entrance. As we walked in, we noticed a bustling ambience that reflected the popularity of the eatery, yet it wasn't so noisy that we couldn't hear ourselves talking. The uncovered tables by the riverbank would be either too cold during rainfall or too hot in direct sunlight. Though outdoor seating would be pleasant in summer, I was relieved we were seated inside as rain began pouring down before our lunch arrived.Having had a full breakfast less than an hour earlier, we opted for a light meal of two mains and two soups. I ordered the roast pork loin, while another member of my family selected the venison pasta. We shared two portions of broccoli and blue cheese soup. The food was superb—the Yorkshire pudding was among the best we've ever tasted, and I particularly appreciated the lighter gravy. The soup was excellent - creamy and wholesome. The venison pasta was superb too with tender meat and tasty sauce. Definitely a place we will visit again, if we are back again for the NC500.
Kok L — Google review
It was such a lovely place to stop during our journey up the North! Lovely service, good fresh local food, what else one would like!
Vaclav B — Google review
We visited the Pier a couple of weeks ago with my two dogs. We had planned to sit outside, as the dogs are quite nervous, but the weather was being typically Scottish. The lovely, lovely people at the cafe sat us in a little side room and we had the whole place to ourselves. The food is gorgeous too, with some really nice veggie options. Make sure you leave room for coffee & cake, or take it home with you. You'd be kicking yourself if you didn't! Thank you again for making us feel so comfortable & welcome, we really appreciate it. And we will absolutely visit again when we are next in the Highlands.
Kelly R — Google review
What a gem of a restaurant! Impeccable service. Impressive location. Great food. Outdoor seating right by the water does not get any better than this on a hot summer day. The menu is good, lots to choose from.

Restaurant
Y Not Bar & Grill is a modern and casual dining spot that offers a mix of British and international comfort food along with cocktails. Despite its unassuming name, the restaurant impresses with its excellent service, friendly staff, and pleasant ambiance. The menu features dishes like calamari, haddock and chips with mushy peas, haggis bum bum, fish & chips, seafood ravioli, as well as vegetarian and vegan options.
We were touring the top of Scotland last Saturday and needed somewhere for lunch. I picked this place due to both being near where we were and the rating. When we got there, they were quite busy even though it was after lunch. The food quality was excellent. I especially liked the soup and the Mac & Cheese. The atmosphere is also really pleasant. The staff were excellent and attentive. I would certainly recommend here for lunch. Its an easy walk from the pedestrian zone.

We dropped by for dinner and got a table without booking in advance. The service was super friendly and efficient, and the prices were fair. The food selection was good and the Fisherman's Pie was great. However the steak fries was not only in the wrong shape, but also below average in terms of taste, so -1 star for that. The banoffee tart was very good. Overall a very good experience and would recommend having dinner here - just stay away from the steak.

Brilliant!!! Everything was cooked to perfection & bursting with flavour especially the rib eye steak. Had the chilli scallops for stater & they were so tender. My wife had the chicken ham & leak pie which was also full of flavour.

PLASTIC BAG ON OUR STEAK SANDWICH! Y not? I can think of many reason why not to visit this place. Never normally leave negative reviews but given what we experienced here I feel we need to to warn others away. Myself and my wife arrived on a Friday evening while we were visiting Thurso on a weekend away together, this was also meant to be to look at places to eat with clients while working in Thurso in the future. When we arrived we were told there was only room for us upstairs as it was bust despite there being several free tables, we were happy to sit upstairs however. We were told to sit anywhere we liked as all the tables were free up here. When the waiter came to take a drinks order he then asked us to move seats to a table that was already set so he didnt need to do another table. After ordering drinks we had another waiter come to take our drinks order again, we told him that we had made an order already. A third waiter arrived 10 minutes later (still waiting on drinks at this point), we again told him we had ordered drinks but not food. At this he told us he would wait till we had our drinks to take a food order as the kitchen was playing catch up. Our drinks soon arrived but or original waiter disappeared not taking a food order. 5 minutes later the third waiter returned with drinks for the table beside us who had arrived 10 minutes after us and proceeded to take their food order. We waited another 10 minutes before going to the bar to ask if we could order food. Our original waiter then came to our table to tell us they couldnt take a food order until the kitchen was ready for more orders. When I asked why the two other tables that came in after us had had their orders taken he rolled his eyes and said okay and proceeded to take our order. 30 minutes later our starters arrived by which time one of the other tables that had arrived after us had already finished their food. When our arrived we were told sorry this is the best we can do. Half the sides to my wives meal were missing. However as we were just glad to eventually have food we ate it and didnt complain. Our mains eventually arrived after another long wait. While my wife was eating hers (a steak sandwich) she pulled out what we both thought at first was a piece of fat from the sandwich. However, when we looked closer this turned out to be an actual plastic bag with a knot in the end. How it was possible to be fried, cut up and served on the sandwich I am unsure but we believe this may have been done on purpose by either the chef or waiter as there is no way this could have been missed while preparing the food. We immediately went to the bar and asked to speak to a manager. After around 5 minutes our waiter returned to say there was no manager present could he help. We explained everything we had had that night and said we wouldnt be paying for anything. All we were told is sorry theres nothing I can do. He wasnt bothered in the slightest! Long story short, do not eat here its an absolute disgrace of an establishment!

The restaurant was super busy and we were a walk in, the staff were great and got us seated ASAP on one of the last tables. The staff were super friendly, 2 of them doing front of house/serving at a full restaurant, and you could not tell! They were on it and hardly any delays at all! Food was fab, good kids choice too...my sourdough pizza was the best I've ever had (although it was massive and I needed my husband and little girl to help finish it❤️). Thanks very much for the warm welcome and excellent food...we needed that after a long day of travelling!

Friendly staff and nice decor. Really quiet during the mornings and never have to wait long. We've been quite a few times for breakfast 🥞 and it's quite overpriced for a full breakfast to be honest. It's a chain and the same breakfast in their Wick branch is quite a bit cheaper. Good for coffee ☕

Luigi is a popular dining spot along the NC500 tour, known for its great atmosphere and excellent service. The menu offers a variety of options, including delicious starters like pork belly with parsnip and piccalilli. The mains, such as Linguine with Scallops, prawns Chilli and garlic, are described as tremendous. Visitors also praise the mussels for their size and juiciness. Despite some road works nearby during one visit, the accommodating staff made the experience enjoyable.
We've been coming here for over a decade whenever we're in the Dornoch area. It remains excellent. Loved the Lobster Thermidor this time. Always spoilt for choice with the desserts and cakes. Relaxed but attentive service as ever. Pristine decor and cleanliness.
Bruce W — Google review
Luigis was recommended to me by 2 work colleagues. 1 of them said, 'Sarah, don't write a bad review.' I don't. I just write truthful reviews. How could I write a bad review when the service was really quick. They came with a cold bottle of water & 2 glasses to us when we sat down. I thought this was a really nice personal touch. The food was very pleasing to the eye & as you eat with your eyes before tasting the food, it was great, & very tasty. I had the tempura prawn salad & Tonka bean crème brulee with summer berries. The tempura prawns were very delicately cooked, salad had different lettuce leaves chopped up. There was a sweet flavour to the dressing. Creme brulee was lovely soft & creamy with a crispy top. Don't know what the Tonka bean was. Dad had the lobster thermidor, which he had never had before & it was lovely. Followed by ice-cream.

Really nice restaurant with a brilliant menu and great service. I had the mussels and half lobster thermodor. They were both excellent especially the lobster. It's probably worth booking before you go as it was busy even on a Tuesday night.

Called by for unch today as a holiday treat as I'd read good reviews, I certainly wasn't disappointed !! Mackerel Pate starter, big serving, followed by Prawn, chorizo linguine, little bit of kick but palatable.thoroughly enjoyed both. Sat outside for my latte, i went in to pay & said they'd forgot I was there as was about to close up I think 🤔 🤣🍽🍷 Friendly staff, tastefully decorated, best meal of my holiday 🌟 🤩
Jacqueline M — Google review
I was extremely disappointed with the front-of-house service. Upon arriving and asking for a table for two, I was bluntly greeted with just the word “no.” After a long pause, the response was repeated as “no, too busy” — without so much as a smile, an apology, or any courtesy. Such a dismissive attitude is unacceptable and left a very poor impression before I even had the chance to dine.

Restaurant
La Mirage Restaurant is a charming spot located along the A9, offering excellent food at reasonable prices. The friendly and efficient staff make it a great place to dine. The decor is quirky, with unique art and seaside decorations, including a cop mannequin and dancer lamp that add to its eccentric charm. Visitors highly recommend the seafood platter, which must be ordered 48 hours in advance for its incredibly fresh and sublime taste.
Phenomenal battered haddock. I’m in constant search for the best Fish and Chips in Scotland and this was right up there. What a place to stumble upon. The Batter and fish quality was outstanding. Chips crispy and fluffy. Service was quick and excellent. I’ll find time to return at some point.
D F — Google review
We had a lovely dinner at La Mirage last night. A very special dish of langostines was available, and they were delicious - and huge! The front room is a bit cramped, exacerbated by the very large party seated near us (great for the restaurant, a little less great for us). Service was warm and efficient, and we very much enjoyed chatting with the owner about the history of the place.
Helen P — Google review
Stopped off at Helmsdale for Fish n Chips while on the NC500. It was a quite Wednesday lunch time. I am a big fan of great fresh Fish n Chips so I ordered a large haddock supper to share ( takeaway ). I waited for it to be cooked and walked off with the order. The portion size was very good. As we both endulged into our fish supper it's fair to say they "simply aren't the best".... The batter was very snotty on the underside making it very greasy and the fish was not fresh, definitely re-fresh.... The chips looked nice but were very bitty and dry. Disappointing for us both and I would only score a 5/10, massive room for improvement. Sorry but more Love for this great dish is required..🙏😎

Such a lovely little place to stop and eat! Helmsdale is a charming town, full of history and beautiful architecture, and this spot fits right in. The owner, Haydar, was a pleasure to chat with after our meal — so warm and welcoming. The salmon was fresh and perfectly cooked, the chips were crisp and flavorful, and the whole experience left us smiling. This will definitely be a regular stop for us whenever we’re back in Helmsdale. Greeting from Canada-New Brunswick! (If you look close enough, La Mirage is right in the middle of my drone shots).

Very nice personnel, the owner served especially for us delicious kofte which should be on the menu!

Lovely little place selling excellent food at very reasonable prices and with a friendly efficient staff makes this a great place to stop on the A9 , We went on 2 consecutive nights and I had the fish and chips first with a steak on the following night , both were really good .The décor is a bit strange with the usual art and seaside decorations in the front but the US cop mannequin and the dancer lamp harks back to the previous owner who was slightly eccentric we were told. Both nights were busy so booking is a must.

The Trawler Fish & Chips

$$$$affordable
Fish & chips restaurant
Fast food restaurant
The Trawler Fish & Chips is a wonderful little spot for enjoying a delectable chippy and fried fish. Situated on the way to the Orkney Islands, this eatery is definitely worth a visit. With minimal waiting time in the short queue, patrons can indulge in damn tasty food, including deep-fried blood pudding snacks by the beach. The generous portion sizes ensure satisfaction, and they don't skimp on tangy tartar sauce either.
Great fish and chips! We ordered the Jumbo fish supper & single calamari. This fed three adults easily! We had left overs. (For the internationals I learned that ‘supper’ means ‘chips’ and ‘breaded’ means ‘crumbed’). We were impressed; fish, calamari and chips were cooked beautifully. Also, it’s just a 1 minute walk around the corner and you can have your lunch along the ocean, plenty of park benches. Perfect spot for lunch!

Tuesday 15th April about 5pm. Takeaway - Haddock and chips and a portion of scampi with 2 buttered rolls. All well cooked and fresh. Very tasty. A good portion of chips. Very good service, welcoming and friendly. You don't expect much atmosphere in a takeaway 🤣 not sure about restaurant side as it wasn't open.

Stopped here for food on the way north. Fish and chips we had was very nice but we didn't know how big the fish would be from looking at the menu as it didn't say snall or large. Prices were reasonable. The shop was quite busy which is a good sign. Staff member was nothing special, took our order without any personality

I took a while before writing this review The Trawler was the first fish and chips I had in Scotland. We stopped at The Trawler because of its reputation of The Best Fish and Chips in Scotland. I can now confirm: The Trawler does have the best fish and chips in Scotland. The Trawler is a very simple place: take out only. The fish was a very generous thick filet of haddock, perfectly cooked in the batter (I discarded most of the batter). The chips were just a perfect.

Good sized portion of freshly cooked haddock and chips, Delicious!

It was great that they offer gluten free fish and chips and they have a dedicated fryer. You have to request any sauces to go along with your meal such as tarter and it is extra.

Not impressed it's nothing like it used to be. They had no bread rolls the chips were not the freshest I have had It's now called the A9 chippy on my bank statement but they have obviously kept the old name from the previous owner, not 100% sure but definitely different from last visit won't be visiting again anytime soon

The food was great, a little oily but normal for a chippy. They offer gluten free options which is an almost immediate 5 star in my book. We had a fish and chips each with curry gravy and mushy peas. Do not miss out on the curry gravy! The only downside is that there is nowhere to sit.

Sango Sands Oasis

Campground
Bar
Sango Sands Oasis is a cliff top campsite that offers pitches with hook-ups, showers, restrooms, and laundry facilities. Visitors have praised the location for being next to an award-winning beach and appreciated the warm welcome from staff. The campers' kitchen provides shelter for cooking in inclement weather, while the on-site breakfast bar serves hot rolls. Despite strong winds affecting camping plans for some visitors, the site's amenities including clean showers and toilets were well-received.
Amazing location overlooking the bay and beautiful beach. Facilities were excellent with great showers. We had hard standing , EHU pitch and it was fairly flat. Grass pitches were also available. We have a T6 and always sleep in the pop top, but it was so windy on the nights we were there that we slept on the downstairs bed instead (and it was fine after that). Had the most amazing view of the sun coming up over the cliff in the morning. A beautiful site.

This was our second visit and it did not disappoint! We love this site and could not recommend it any higher. From the moment you arrive to the friendly smiles of the owners to the huge smile that will appear on your face when you look over the side of the cliff to the beautiful beach below and out to sea. It is idyllic, peaceful, a fantastic location to sit and unwind or go for a walk. The showers are always clean, there is a kitchen area for those who are camping and don't have their own cooking facilities. It also boasts a laundry room with washing machines and dryers. Nearby is the pub which has really friendly staff and a pool table. There is a shop just up the road which stocks all of the things you could possibly need. Can highly recommend their fresh sausage rolls and the fresh cakes looked yummy as well! Keep walking and you will get to Balnakeil Craft Village where you will find a cafe with the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted. Keep walking further down the lane and you will end up at Balnakeil Beach where there is an old Church and graveyard which are definitely worth a visit. In the other direction from the campsite you will find Smoo Cave which again is a must to visit.

It has everything for every need (late September 25)! Multilingual Friendly staff at reception, throughout the campsite and the bar. There's a breakfast hut but always missed due to being late risers. Several washing up areas for the dishes and folk. Views to die for any time of the day, 2 beaches. Ideal for foraging sea weeds (delicious and healthy). If you love seeing shooting stars, Northern lights (if you are lucky) & the milky way, this is the place to be. Walking distance from the caves, walks, wire thing and cliff jumping and many more activities. Note: there are 2 roads to get to the camp. Be careful with Google maps especially if you have an old and delicate campervan. 1st one is super steep descend and 2nd one is an ordinary road. Will definitely be back again. Would highly recommend

Visited in mid September. Beautiful views at the campsite of the beach and within a scenic short walk to Smoo cave. Clean ample showers and washing facilities. Friendly welcome upon check-in. It's a popular campsite. We was able to get a non-electric pitch after 12pm as they were fully booked. A really nice campsite, reason for 4 star is the price was high for a non-electric pitch on slightly waterlogged ground. There was rabbit droppings, which frustratingly were everywhere on the field and had to be careful not to walk them into our campervan.

A couple of nights here to take a break from driving, well worth it for the views from pitch 64 alone. A bit windy due to Amy, but with hydraulic levellers deployed, stable. EHU added to the comfort. Friendly helpful staff. Washing machine and dryer totalling £9 for a big load. Bracing walk on the beach to clear the lungs. Recommended

Fabulous location ! Overlooking the beach we had great views and could watch the sunrise which was beautiful - friendly staff, clean facilities - great little bar which had a nice buzz - we had clear skies at night so lots of star gazing! Great local walks to more fabulous beaches and coast line - Definitely the site to book first and in advance - we stayed two nights and so glad we did - I had a dip in the sea one morning which was fantastic! Highly recommend Sango Sands and hope to visit again in the near future! :)

The location is lovely but nothing there, campsite clean most pitches have sea view even now in late October was very busy, toilet shower block clean fresh. The site itself could do with some care and spruce up no flowers lights WiFi etc basically just a layered field, the view is only nice part! But realistically for £34 per night it's reasonably priced comparison to alot of others. The guy at reception took my cash, told me pitch number left me to it no receipt or advice.

I spent one night at this stunning location on my recent camper van tour. The site is clean and well equipped and even has a bar. Book early and get a pitch on the cliff top for views of the sea and beach.

Inverness is a wonderful airport. It’s no wonder they’ve been voted best* for so many years in a row. It is a clean, happy, well run, wonderful place.

A small but highly functional airport in a beautiful location. Perfect destination for exploring the North East of Scotland. Be aware BR "Inverness Airport" train station is not an integral part of the airport ( as one might reasonably expect ) but instead is a 1,000m walk away, via a footpath. If you have luggage, and/or small kids, it is a 1 mile taxi ride !

Great airport - friendly atmosphere and good service. In keeping with the highlands it’s a small airport in comparison to the bigger cities but very efficient. The security gates are sometimes busy when arriving for a flight and it’s better to get here earlier than later on

I found Inverness Airport by googling Airports in Scotland. I googled Images of Inverness City Scotland. Then I opened Google Map to type Inverness. I found hotels, restaurants and things to do. I typed bars with live Scottish music, plenty of them in the city center. I also typed tour companies in Inverness, plenty of them. Inverness Airport won my attention. I took the Airport Railway foot path to the train station when I arrived from London. On my return flight, I took the Stagecoach bus across the train station in the city center. I arrived early at the Inverness Airport to relax and wander thru the shops. The shop sell Scotch, a large variety to please every budget. Vhuntermassage LLC

The airport is small, but has everything it needs and clean bathrooms. The bus to the city was very expensive - around 9 pounds per person. If you are more than 2-3 people, it is cheaper to get an Uber.

A nice smaller airport with a nice assortment of services like car rental and eating. The good thing is it doesn't take long to get your luggage.
Arose58 — Google review
“The most unusual airport in the world! Either it is significantly outdated compared to others, or the staff simply have too much time on their hands if they require passengers to undress down to their shirts. 🤦🤦 There is a single, seemingly endless line for check-in, luggage is measured for every passenger, and regardless of the flight time, all shops remain closed. It is a clear case of ambition exceeding capability. It’s just a small airport, yet the staff behave as if it were the most important one in the world.” Service to improve!!!!

I had a great experience at Inverness Airport. It’s small but very comfortable, with plenty of seating and nice cafes to relax in before your flight. The location is very convenient, and it felt very safe and clean throughout. Definitely my go-to airport when flying from the Highlands."
