Salzburg Cathedral

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Salzburg Cathedral, with its twin spires and baroque-style architecture, is a monumental symbol of the city's religious significance and historical wealth. The cathedral houses a museum that displays sacred treasures, adding to its allure. The building has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries, with the current structure showcasing early Baroque ecclesiastical architecture at its finest. Visitors are captivated by the towering facade and turquoise domes of this 17th-century marvel.
The inside of this cathedral is absolutely stunning. The walls and ceilings are bathed in rich and intricate detail and the ceiling has eye catching murals and statues. It truly is something to see and worth a bit of your time in Salzburg. It doesn’t take long to just pop in and admire. I would encourage visitors to wear appropriate clothing and act appropriately considering this is a church.
Benjamin M — Google review
Gorgeous cathedral, but not the best for choir concert. My son sang with a group of over 100 kids and you could barely hear them. The massive, absolutely stunning interior is just not made for that. Otherwise, it was awesome.
Andrea M — Google review
Beautiful cathedral!! Entrance fee is a modest 5 Euros. Once inside be sure to check out the underground in the far back left (facing the altar). Also there’s a giant metal structure where Mozart was baptized as a child (see in my photos)
Colton W — Google review
Just amazing! The Cathedral has a unique architecture and we also booked ourselves for an organ concert. Every day at noonafter the 12 o'clock bells there is an organ concert. It's preferable you book your place. The player changed the organs and during half hour he played different pieces to three different organs. A must do activity in Salzburg.
Maria G — Google review
Nice cathedral and need 5 euro entrance ticket. We were here on the first day of Rupertikirtag festival, so the stalls and other activities are just starting to kick off the festivities. From here we walk to the Festung Hohensalzburg gate to buy the cable car ticket.
Ai C — Google review
The Salzburg Cathedral is a breathtaking Baroque masterpiece in the heart of the Old Town. Its grand façade, elegant dome, and beautifully decorated interior create a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere. The cathedral’s historic organ, once played by Mozart, and its stunning frescoes make it a true cultural gem. Surrounded by the charming Domplatz and views of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, it’s a must-see landmark that perfectly captures Salzburg’s beauty and history.
Lg G — Google review
Beautiful inside and out. European cathedrals are always impressive and this one lives up to the reputation. Elegant may be a better word for the decor inside. While not overly ornate, it is the openness and brightness of the interior that was eye catching. Really a beautiful place of worship.
M R — Google review
An absolutely beautiful church! This stands out from many of the other churches we’d seen because of the stunning black and white design that makes the paintings pop. The organ was also beautiful. There is an entrance fee but the discount with the Salzburg card brings it down to €3.5 per person.

Mirabell Palace

Castle
Nature & Parks
Mirabell Palace, a 17th-century architectural gem located in Salzburg, is renowned for its ornamental gardens and opulent interior. The palace was featured in the iconic film 'The Sound of Music,' with its gardens serving as the backdrop for memorable scenes. Built by Archbishop Wolf Dietrich in 1606 and later redesigned in Baroque style, the palace boasts exquisite interior decorations including stucco and wall paintings.
Mirabell Palace is absolutely stunning and a must-see in Salzburg. The palace itself is elegant, but the real highlight is the Mirabell Gardens — beautifully maintained with colorful flower beds, sculptures, and fountains that make it feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale. The view looking through the gardens towards the fortress is breathtaking and perfect for photos. It’s free to enter the gardens, and they’re easy to walk through, so it’s a great stop even if you’re short on time. If you visit in spring or summer, the flowers are in full bloom and the atmosphere is magical. Music lovers will also appreciate that some of the “Sound of Music” scenes were filmed here. Highly recommend visiting in the morning before the crowds arrive — it’s peaceful, romantic, and unforgettable.
Andrew H — Google review
The gardens are magnificent. Symmetry and colors are combined in beautiful compositions. Access to the gardens is free. The palace itself is also free, but there is nothing to see. Access is only to the staircase, which is magnificent, but it is disappointing that there is no access to the halls. We only managed to peek into one.
Sonya M — Google review
It's a really beautiful and popular place in Salzburg that everyone have to see. The gardens are stunning and you can enjoy sitting around and taking photos. There are also classical music concerts there, which are definitely a must-see if you love this genre!
Gergana T — Google review
Even in late October, without all the flowers, the gardens are well kept and beautiful. I’m a huge fan of the dwarf garden! Very fun, though not PC (bc history is not PC) statues in there! Worth a walk through and FREE. The only part of the palace that was accessible was the marble staircase area—I believe it had a real name. Pretty, but the gardens are better!
Olivia H — Google review
Mirabell Palace in Salzburg is straight out of a fairytale ✨. The gardens are full of colorful flowers, fountains, and little hidden corners that feel so peaceful. You can wander around, take in the mountain views, and feel like you’re in a scene from The Sound of Music. It’s charming, romantic, and a must-see if you’re in Salzburg 💐🏰
Sara D — Google review
Beautiful palace with stunning gardens. Easy to walk around and free to enter. The views with the flowers, statues, and Salzburg backdrop are picture-perfect. Peaceful spot to relax, take photos, or just enjoy the scenery. Great for a short, calming visit.
Cyw — Google review
Nice walk around the gardens with the memorable views of the Sound of Music. There were three weddings going on at the same time. Seems the palace was closed for visitors today. Loaded with tourists parties there for the same reason as us no doubt.
Steve B — Google review
Stunning, the actual location for the lake view of the sound of music (they made replicas of the horses 50m away and put them at the lake for that entrance, then removed them after filming). Where the boat scene was filmed where they all fall out. Staff were incredibly helpful, we arrived 6 hours before check in(!) and they made us feel welcome. Lovely bar and seating area downstairs. We bought the wrong adapters and they have loads you can check out for free and return. Free bus pass for the city for our visit also, very useful!

Fortress Hohensalzburg

Fortress
Museums
Perched on a hilltop with commanding views of the city and the Alps, Fortress Hohensalzburg is an impressive 11th-century complex that draws in over 1.4 million visitors annually. To avoid the crowds, it's best to arrive early and take a glass funicular or embark on a steep 20-minute walk up Festungsgasse in the Old Town to reach this iconic landmark.
A piece of medieval history. Impressive layout on top of a hill with several intact rooms you can visit if you have tickets. The fortress grounds are free to roam. There’s an outdoor cafe for drinks and snacks with beautiful views. There’s a funicular going up if you want to omit the stairs.
Gabi G — Google review
Great view but you need to pay extra to go to the tower (which we didn’t). Still absolutely worth visiting while you’re in Salzburg. You can skip the line if you buy or get tickets upfront (we got them from our hotel).
Stevo T — Google review
Amazing castle and exhibition. Everything is modern, interactive and multisensory. Truly a nice example of the basic of how exhibitions today should look like. Plus the ticket's price is also very okay. 100% recommend buying tickets in advance though, there was a super long queue when buying on the spot.
Kristýna V — Google review
Bought the entrance and funicular train ticket and it's a enjoyable trip up the hill to the castle. Plenty of stuff to see in the fortress and also great view of Salzburg city from the top of the castle. Really beautiful scenery and we don't want to leave but had to rush to find the train station as we need to catch the 12pm Hallstatt tour.
Ai C — Google review
This is a fascinating site. There are many things to see in this historic place. Be prepared for some step climbing to get the very best views. We enjoyed learning all the history about the Fortress. There are rooms full of interesting items dating from ancient times to modern life.
Linda B — Google review
The castle is just beautiful on the outside and inside, very easy to get on the funicular and amazing views. Also the museums and exhibitions there are worth it to see! It's a must-do for everyone who visits Salzburg.
GUSTAVO ( — Google review
The outdoors is open for hours after indoor exhibits close in summer. This is the last place on my list for the day. My plan was to visit all the indoor exhibits before closing then enjoy the outdoors hopefully in the cooler hours. It's big and interesting with multiple buildings. High up on the hill, with great views of the city and surrounding areas. One would think this is a great location to defend the city. Ironically, it's not been battle tested after it was built in the 11th century. With the city pass, went up with the cable car and walked down. It would be a good climb to hike up. On a hot summer day, no thanks.
S W — Google review
There weren’t many people. There are places on the grounds where you can buy food and drinks, and the view of the city is excellent. The funicular is included in the online ticket price (not sure about the offline one — I think the sign at the entrance mentioned only online tickets). Overall, it’s a great spot to drop by for an hour or two and take a walk.

History Museums
Mozart's Birthplace, also known as Mozarts Geburtshaus, is a significant historical site in Salzburg. The yellow townhouse was where Wolfgang Mozart, one of the most influential composers in history, was born and lived for 17 years. Today, it operates as a house museum offering tours that provide insights into Mozart's early life. Visitors can explore three floors filled with personal belongings, musical instruments, family portraits, and other important items related to Mozart.
Mozart’s Birthplace Museum is a must-visit in the heart of Salzburg. With the Salzburg Card, entry is free and quick, making it very convenient. The museum offers wonderful insights into Mozart’s life, his family, and his works, with many fascinating details on display. A free app with an audio guide is available, which makes the visit even more engaging and informative. One of the highlights is a special room where instruments are built into the floor—when you walk across it, music begins to play. If you’re visiting with others, it creates a truly delightful and interactive experience. Overall, a well-curated museum that brings Mozart’s story to life in the city where it all began.
Elnur Q — Google review
A must-see in Salzburg. It was fascinating to visit the birthplace of the great musician. The museum houses many of the musician's personal belongings, his musical instruments, and much more. Be sure to use the Mozart Museums Salzburg App as your guide.
Aliaksei A — Google review
Great museum and tribute to Mozart. Informative displays with historical significance. I really like that the museum has a QR code you can scan and have a self guided tour simply with your own phone. We were there on a Sunday and it was not over crowded. They have a few public restrooms also available. The gift shop is very nice and inviting. I highly recommend it.
Debbie M — Google review
The museum collection is quite simple, and tickets can be purchased in advance on the website. When we asked the ticket counter staff about an audio guide, the lady said there wasn’t one — but upon entering, we discovered there is actually a free app to download. The staff didn’t seem very professional, and although the museum mentions having one of the largest collections from the Mozart Association, to be honest, the value for money felt quite low. Also, the weather was very hot, and it felt like a sauna inside the museum.
Penny N — Google review
Located in the city center of Salzburg. The place is easy to locate and its also near to the bus and tram stops. The building is quiet different because of its yellow painting.
Cheryll C — Google review
Located on Getreidegasse in Salzburg’s Old Town, Mozart’s Birthplace is a fascinating stop for anyone interested in classical music and history. The house where Mozart was born in 1756 has been converted into a well-curated museum displaying his original instruments, family portraits, and letters, giving a personal insight into his early years. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ticket prices are €15 for adults, €12 for students under 27, seniors, and groups, €5 for youth (15–18 years), €4.50 for children (6–14 years), and €30 for families. Entry is free for children under six, people with disabilities, and Salzburg Card holders. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds, especially during summer. It’s a short yet enriching experience that captures the essence of Mozart’s genius and Salzburg’s musical heritage.
TheMindisCurious — Google review
We were very excited to visit the home place of Mozart whilst staying in Salzburg as I am a big fan, however I have to say we were not very impressed for few reasons.. 1 Overcrowded, feels like you can't enjoy the place without having 10/15 Japanese on your shoulder coughing and sneezing you in the face.. 2 The interactive section was poorly presented, they should modernize it a bit.. 3 Too expensive for what they offer. Happy to have done it, but wouldn't return.
Nick C — Google review
Historic area in the heart of Salzburg with charming streets, shops, and cafés. Mozart’s Birthplace is a highlight, offering interesting exhibits about his early life. A great spot to stroll, enjoy the architecture, and soak in the city’s musical heritage

Sights & Landmarks
St. Peter's Abbey, situated in Salzburg, Austria, is a renowned Benedictine monastery and Catholic church with a rich history dating back to the 7th century. Established by Saint Rupert, it stands as one of the oldest abbey-church and monastery complexes in the German-speaking world. The Romanesque St. Peter's Church, built in 1143 and later restored with Baroque and Rococo elements, showcases ornate altarpieces by Martin Johann Schmidt.
The whole area was beautiful. I think I read that the interior of the church is Roccoco style - it was very dark in there. The surrounding of the cemetery and catacomb area offers really picturesque views. Very historic church that was interesting to research !

St. Peter's Abbey is a breathtaking piece of history nestled in the heart of Salzburg. Dating back to the 7th century, this Catholic church and monastery exude an aura of timeless beauty and serenity. The Baroque architecture, intricate decorations, and peaceful atmosphere make it a must-visit for history lovers and spiritual seekers alike. One of the highlights is the picturesque cemetery and catacombs, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. The surroundings are stunning, with the abbey seamlessly blending into the rocky landscape. Whether you're admiring the Rococo-style interior or exploring the historical graves, every corner of St. Peter's Abbey tells a story. A visit here is not just about sightseeing—it's an experience that leaves you with a deep appreciation for Salzburg’s rich heritage. Highly recommended.
Laurence H — Google review
The cemetery was unlike anything that I have seen. Though the sound of music took the look of St. Peter's cemetery it was not filmed here. Still very much worth seeing. Walking around the Abby in the court there are some areas open to enter, however I was not dressed church appropriate to enter so I can't comment on the inside
Heather R — Google review
Magnificent abbey! You should try to make time for it, but there are so many things to do in Salzburg that this might be difficult. Having said that, if you have two full days in Salzburg, then it's a must-see, and missing this abbey would be a shame.
Dan M — Google review
Lovely church grounds but don't bother with the catacombs.
John L — Google review
Picturesque Abbey located in Old Town. The church was originally built in the 8th century. The gardens in the cemetery are very nice. There is a beautiful view of Altstadt from the top of the abbey. The catacombs are an interesting site but do not contain any bones.
Stephen — Google review
The Abbey inside is no different than any other Abbey. But behind the Abbey is fantastic where you see the historical graves and the stone structure built in the mountain. Also the first right turn before the Abbey, if yiu go down that street and up the stairs you get a magnificent view of Salzburg. I assume it is where church people live.
Nomad J — Google review
It is considered one of the oldest monasteries in the German-speaking area, and in fact the oldest with a continuous history since its foundation in 696.The pictures from the inside are truly breathtaking. You can even light a candle for 80 cents for the church!

Getreidegasse Street

Mentioned on

Getreidegasse Street, the main shopping artery of Salzburg since Medieval times, is a must-visit for history and culture enthusiasts. It's home to Mozart's birthplace and features intricately decorated shop signs that harken back to a time when people couldn't read, using symbols to represent their trade. The street winds through beautiful baroque architecture and offers international shopping options alongside historic sites.
Very busy pedestrian street but also lots of stuff to look at and plenty of cafe and restaurants. We walked through this from Hotel Andra to Salzburg cathedral.
Ai C — Google review
Getreidegasse is the street in the heart of old town. There are Mozart's birthplace and many tourist destinations around here. A particular highlight of this street is the decorative and quite elaborate guild signs that protrude from building facades above the heads of pedestrians. These signs are so unique and beautiful that you have to stand and spending some time for looking at those. This is one of the must-see things in this city and should be a must visit spot when you visit Salzburg to enjoy tour, shopping and eating.
Francis K — Google review
The signs are really unique to admire. During the weekend the street gets a little bit crowded, but overall worth a visit.
Viviana C — Google review
Famous shopping street in Salzburg, shopping is not my thing but it's worth a look. Somehow I still ended up buying my wife a handbag, you have been warned 😂
Geordie A — Google review
Nice place to visit during the weekend. Enjoy my walking surround and we are so lucky the weather is beautiful and sunny.
Dwipa — Google review
Romantic and relaxing place. Great shopping street
Teya S — Google review
Nice to have a bit of history. It is a cute little street but not that much is different from streets in other old towns. vast majority of the shops are high end which makes the whole street feel a bit silly. I suppose if you are into that then this would be right up your alley way. If you are Salzburg old town you will probably walk down this street even just by accident.
James T — Google review
A street having all shops name up with so many different designs. And the street is beautiful. On this street you can also find Mozart's Birthplace.

Residenzplatz is a magnificent 16th-century square featuring a stunning baroque fountain and serving as the backdrop for various cultural events. It holds historical significance, being featured in famous films like The Sound of Music. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Mirabell Palace and Garden, Felsenreitschule, St. Peters cemetery, Schloss Leopoldskron, and Nonnberg Convent.
Residenzplatz in Salzburg is a magical spot, especially during Christmas time! Our family visited the charming Christmas markets here, and it was an unforgettable experience. The market offers an incredible variety of local produce, beautiful handmade Christmas decorations, and a wide range of delicious food stalls featuring Austrian specialties. The festive atmosphere, twinkling lights, and traditional music make it a dream come true for holiday lovers. It does get quite crowded after 6 PM, so visiting earlier is a good idea to avoid the rush. A must-see for anyone visiting Salzburg during the festive season!

Residenzplatz is a beautiful square in Salzburg’s Old Town, surrounded by historic buildings and featuring a grand central fountain. It’s a popular spot where horse-drawn carriages line up, offering rides through the city. The square has a lively yet relaxed atmosphere, making it a great place to pause and take in the surroundings.
Wesley W — Google review
Well, it's hardly "missable" because you'll probably stroll through the old quarters of Salzburg, probably visit the Fortress and/or the Cathedral (Dom zu Salzburg) and of course you'll have to pass by this superb Residenzplatz and its monumental fountain in its Center. Beautiful as all Salzburg is.
Dan M — Google review
This was a very beautiful square. It was difficult to appreciate its grandeur as there was a massive Christmas Market on the grounds. And that made it extra special, the atmosphere. In fact, everywhere in Salzburg, there was a Christmas Market, so the vibrancy of town was quite lovely and alive and very festive.

This expansive Baroque complex includes a cathedral, an Abbey, and five separate museums. One of the museums, the famous Dom Museum, houses the Kunst und Wunderkammer, which features a fascinating collection of stuffed animals, fossils, scientific devices, and rock crystal grinding works.
One of the best places to visit in Salzburg. We spent a good couple of hours here. Beautiful chandlers , painting, jewled items. Curiosity cupboards. Love the architecture. The rooms are very big . We used our Salzburg cards.
Julie S — Google review
Basically a bunch of museums put together, you have the one connected to Salzburg Cathedral, residence gallery, state rooms and the museum of St Peter. You can also get a better view on the fountain and the center in general while going though the tour. Beatiful museum but the reason for the 2 stars is that they put contemporary art in the middle of multiple rooms which really harm the atmosphere of the particular rooms. Contemporary art should stay in the contemporary museum in my opinion where it's setting alings with other pieces. This mishmash was really saddening.
Finite T — Google review
Visited on 9th December and this is probably the best value experience we have found over the last 9 months of travelling. The inclusion of historical palatial buildings, significant artwork, items of significance from the church, access to view the historical church from the upper level adjacent to the pipe organ, and some museum collections. It is all very well maintained, pristine and tidy. There are also several locations where you have views over the marketplace where the Christmas Stalls are situated. You could easily spend two hours or more reviewing it all.
Peter T — Google review
Wonderful place from outside as well as inside. The cathedral is impressive and the museum part is very interesting too. There were several exhibitions available and we can only recommend visiting them.
Lubica V — Google review
This place is definitely worth a visit. Very palatial, wonderful exhibitions, access to the attic of the Dome organ and the adjacent terrace with a beautiful view. A very interesting museum, with centuries-old exhibits. You can see the representative chambers of the archbishop, an art gallery and works of sacred art. The most interesting thing for me was the opportunity to admire the cathedral’s interior from above, from the organ gallery.
Witold D — Google review
The best museum in Salzburg. I had the chance to visit with the Salzburg card, half a day was not enough. You can go through several exhibitions and the Salzburg Cathedral. Very amazed!
Yeliz Y — Google review
The modern art statues were very interesting. There were some music festivals going on in the summer. There are a lot of shops and artists in the square. I bought two pieces of painting from an artist here. The old town streets are connected to here. There are a lot of small isles going through the courtyard and connecting two streets. It was kind of surprising; I thought it was a deadend then it showed the other end goes to another street. It is fun to walk through the old town.

Salzburg Zoo Hellbrunn is a family-friendly destination featuring over 1,500 animals from various continents. Originally established in the 15th century as an archbishopric zoological park, it now showcases 150 different species. The zoo's unique topography, nestled next to a cliff leading to the large African savannah, adds to its charm.
Well it was much more then we expected. Good place to pass 3-4 hours with the kids. We gave them the map and follow them.. bring food and water with you and make it a great day!

As a zoo situated near the Alps, there are two things to keep in mind; firstly, this is easily one of the most scenic zoos I've ever visited, with wonderful views of the mountains. And second, it's on the side of a steep cliff, which is incorporated into rhe exhibits of many of the animals. Now, while this zoo is missing favourites like giraffes or great apes, it still has many charismatic animals from around the world; big cats, brown bears, rhinos, monkeys, and even free-ranging vultures that are native to the area! This is a lovely zoo I can thoroughly recommend.
Alan D — Google review
Animals were very active. We really enjoyed the time. With the Salzburg card we can enter the zoo without additional payments. Car parking is free for those who come to visit the zoo. Don't forget to punch your car parking ticket before exiting from the Zoo. Else you have to pay parking charges Pretty good restaurant available inside the zoo
Felix P — Google review
This has to be one of my new favourite zoos! It follows a linear path got round in about 2.5h. I came on a Wednesday and it was pretty quiet sometimes I even had parts to myself! The enclosures are enriching for each species! I found that nearly all the animals I saw here came right up to the glass it was amazing! Some animals such as the snow leopard were sleeping on the walk up but on the way out I passed it again and it was very active near the viewing window!! Incredible i highly recommend this zoo!
NJ W — Google review
We were very happy with the visit in the ZOO garden. ZOO can be easily reached by the public transport from Salzburg and it's located in a very lovely area. We saw many animals except big cats :) Also the services available in the garden are nice and overall we had very good impression. If you have the Salzburg card, the public transport as well as entry are free of charge.

The Haus der Natur, also known as the Museum of Natural History and Technology, is a captivating science and natural history museum located in Salzburg, Austria. This expansive museum offers a wide range of interactive exhibits suitable for all ages. Visitors can explore permanent displays such as an aquarium and reptile zoo with over 35 tanks showcasing animals from around the world. Additionally, there's an interactive science center providing hands-on experiences to learn about various topics including energy and the human body.
For families with young kids, this spot is an absolute gem. It's incredibly engaging and can easily fill 4 to 5 hours with its vast, multi-story layout. With dedicated buildings for nature and technology, there's so much to discover. We barely scratched the surface during our 3-hour visit, so plan for plenty of time!

Amazing museum! So many different exhibitions. The main downside is that there is now Air conditioning, thus was hot relatively to the nice weather outside, I assume on hotter days it can be even worse.

So its better to go there early in the morning & explore the whole museum. 😍😍 its ok to bring dry foods & snacks for when you get hungry, there is a place on 5th or 6th floor (i forgot) where you can eat & relax. & theres a place where u can buy foods & eat there as well, so its ok either way. ❤️

Along with palaeontological exhibitions on the time of the dinosaurs and the ice age, there are many exhibits about marine life, the human body, human evolution, Austria's wildlife, even entirely fictional creatures! And the special touch is their aquarium and terrarium, which are home to many rare species! I really recommend this museum to anyone who's visiting Salzburg.

Loads of things to see and do at this museum. Definitely one to visit if you've got kids aged between 3 and 16. Cafe on site too. Entry included for FREE on the Salzberg Card.
John L — Google review
Huge museum, very diverse with a lot of interactive experiences and short films. 3 hours were not enough to see all exhibits. No French (only English / German), but a lot of experiments and things to see that doesn’t need to understand the text/speech (including alive animals). Great family experience !

Very cool. Excellent for kids and adults. Huge amount to see. Need two days to get through. The interactive exhibits were very fun and informative. Fun for our little ones and us! Highly recommend the reptile zoo, but actually everything was cool. Had hot chips and magarita pizza at the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the price AND the quality. Very nice! Wish we were in Salzburg longer so we could go again and see the stuff we missed. Amazing place!

Brilliant - went in not expecting to learn about werewolves and witch burning , but did so with the added bonus of learning how to shrink heads and cannibalism in Papua New Guinnea . Something for everyone - be aware that the sexual reproduction is section is a little graphic (think videos of a woman giving birth and pictorial descriptions of STDs. Kids were running around the section as there is no restriction of age. Only expected to stay for an hour or so, but was there for 3.5 hours and had to be kicked out as they were closing- make sure you have Google translate on your phone or speak German as this will make your visit so much more informative.

Restaurant
St. Peter Stiftskulinarium is a renowned restaurant that boasts being one of the oldest in Europe, with historical records dating back to 803 A.D. It was established by Benedictine monks and is steeped in history, with tales of famous figures such as Charlemagne and Columbus having dined or drank there. The restaurant offers an elegant ambiance and serves creative dishes and drinks, blending traditional Austrian standards with international specialties.
This was the best meal that I have had in Austria so far! It was incredible! From the atmosphere and being in the oldest restaurant in Central Europe, operating since 803 to the amazing dishes and great vibes, couldn’t ask for a better experience. Would highly recommend and it is a must! The grilled octopus and the duck were incredible and were very well balanced. We will be back!

This was quite an experience. The place obviously has a rich and interesting history being the oldest restaurant in the world. It did not disappoint. The menu is pretty diverse. I had the Chicken Piccata and it was delicious. One of our party had the blackened shrimp and was a little disappointed when the shrimp weren't exactly blackened as advertised but they still enjoyed the meal. They serve a Cardamom infused butter with their bread and it's amazing. The highlight of the visit though was our waiter, Hoxha. He was attentive but not pushy and went out of his way to accommodate me with an unusual request for dessert. Better yet after the meal was finished, he gave us a tour of the restaurant and recounted to us its fascinating history. This was easily one of the highlights of our visit to Salzburg.

The food was excellent! I really loved how innovative the dishes were, they mix mango with regular meals in such a creative way that makes every bite unique. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for something delicious. 🤩

Great service and beautiful atmosphere. Definitely recommend If you love classical music. Every piece was performed perfect. The only tiny bit of a dissapointment was the dessert as a dessert lover. I would like something richer and tastier. The first and main dish were perfect.

AMERICAN REVIEW Server was very professional, friendly, and knew the menu off the top of his head. Food was delicious as advertised, very pleased with my experience. I recommended the Austria dishes. Meal was served in a timely manner, took a tab bit long on the dessert menus.

Located next to the St. Peter church, nice ambience and fine dinner setting with Excellent service. Angelos was very friendly , well mannered, attentive and prepared separate serving plates for our sharing. I accidentally knocked off my wine glass and he replaced 1 for me. Food was good, Beef soup and boiled beef very delish. Great service and food!

We had a truly beautiful experience at this restaurant. The ambiance was unique and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing meal. The atmosphere stood out with its charming design and calming vibe. What made the evening even more special was the outstanding service from Waiter Cesar. He was incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive, offering excellent recommendations that turned out to be absolutely delicious. Thanks to him, we enjoyed a perfectly curated meal. Highly recommended for both the atmosphere and the impeccable service.

Café Tomaselli is a delightful gem nestled in the heart of Salzburg's old town, steeped in rich history since its establishment in 1703. This iconic coffeehouse beautifully embodies Austria's café culture, where delectable food and warm company are cherished equally. As you step inside, you're greeted by an enchanting atmosphere featuring dark-wood paneling, elegant marble tables, and vintage decor adorned with crystal chandeliers and baroque paintings.
To start with, this cafe opens at 7 am which is amazing if you need to have breakfast early in the morning. The place is beautiful inside and outside, service is top notch, the food and presentation of it - classy. I was going there every day and was never disappointed. Definitely worth checking it out!

After our Sound of Music tour, we were so happy to find Café Tomaselli right in the middle of St. Stephen’s Square. This place is charming and filled with energy, and we found a balcony seat on the second floor — perfect for people-watching! We had kombucha tea, passion fruit soda, and apple strudel, all light and refreshing. Service was friendly, though there’s no AC, so it can get warm on hot days. Still, a great spot to recharge and soak in Salzburg’s historic vibe.
Regis K — Google review
Great location at a beautiful, historic cafe. Our group enjoyed a traditional breakfast of eggs, pastries, and coffee. Wish the service was friendlier. We ordered three omelets with cheese (no ham) and one plain omelet. When server arrived with two omelets that had ham, getting two of our orders wrong, he tried to argue with us over the error.
Kyla — Google review
A truly charming café with a rich history! It’s fascinating to see that the staff still wear traditional old-time outfits, which really adds to the atmosphere and makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time. The place has a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes it perfect for a relaxed break. The lunch I had was delicious – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hot chocolate was also amazing – rich and comforting, just what you need on a cold day. The waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. There’s also more than enough space to sit comfortably, so you can really enjoy the experience without feeling crowded. If you’re looking for a historic spot with excellent food, drinks, and a unique atmosphere, Café Tomaselli is a must-visit! Highly recommend it for anyone in the area.

Atmosphere was great. Very historic. Unfortunately we had to tell our waiter to clean the table after we had sat. Other than that service was fast. The tiramisu cake was delicious and so was the coffee.
Dickran K — Google review
I’d go for the vibes. The cafe takes you to another century, and it was especially interesting to go in the early morning as there are actually locals enjoying their coffee before work. As for the cakes we had the apple strudel and another one but it wasn’t mind blowing, nor the cappuccino.

Esszimmer

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Esszimmer is a charming restaurant located at the foot of Monchsberg in Salzburg, Austria. The intimate and cozy atmosphere makes it a favorite spot for those who appreciate contemporary Austrian cuisine. The yellow-hued room with a fireplace creates a romantic setting, perfect for enjoying carefully composed tasting menus. The chef, Andreas Kaiblinger, is known for his passion for cooking and uses high-quality ingredients like Hecht from Attersee to create punchy flavors in his dishes.
We had dinner here on our honeymoon in Salzburg and had an amazing experience! The restaurant is family operated and feels quaint and not stuffy. We did the Esszimmer tasting menu with wine pairing and every bite was incredible, presentation was spectatular. They will ask up top if you have a concert or anything you need to get to. If you say no, make sure you have time for a 3+ hour experience as there is some waiting between courses. We enjoyed the building anticipation and sipping our paired wine during that time! Highly recommend dinner here if you're in Salzburg.

It's worth trying this Michelin 2025 restaurant if you are Salzburg. Nice food and quite place with great service.

I could not be more happy with our dining experience at Esszimmer! From the moment we walked in until when we left, the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. We enjoyed how they described each one of the seven courses along with suggesting wine pairings. It was a family affair there, the mother who ran the restaurant along with her daughter were both working there and it was so cute! Thank you for the amazing evening!

Treated myself to a nice dinner alone with a book and I'm glad I did it here. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing and comfortable with very friendly staff. The esszimmer tasting menu was superb and overall found the dishes incredibly delicate and not banging you over the head. I look forward to my next visit.

Phenomenal food! Such great flavour and very inventive. The other reviews were right about how great this restaurant is. My husband and I both loved it. Every item of food was delightful. I had the vegetarian menu and he had the Esszimmer menu with the pigeon. (If you are wondering what to wear the atmosphere and guest attire are somewhat casual. Don't wear a t-shirt but most everyone wore sneakers)

My visit to Esszimmer was fantastic. Easily the best meal I had on my first trip to Austria. The staff was courteous and attentive. The meal was unique and nicely paced. I enjoyed each of the 7 courses.

Lovely interior Excellent service Amazing food After reading about this restaurant in lonely planet we decided to book for our upcoming holiday and we were not disappointed. We chose the lunch menu with paired wines and were spoilt with a delicious welcome of beef tartare, followed by tuna three ways which was melt in your mouth perfection! Then a duck dish, again perfectly cooked and paired with delicious rich wine. Finishing with a Christmas flavoured dessert! Excellent service throughout the meal and a great experience.
Jo F — Google review
My husband and I went for our anniversary. I can’t say much on the way of parking because we walked. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by wonderful staff who took our coats. Our table was nicely set up with adorable Christmas ornaments. They provide side tables for purses and phones to avoid crowding the table which is a nice touch. I selected the vegetarian menu and it did not disappoint. The menu tasted like a homey holiday meal. The flavors were complex and warm. Each dish just felt like warm love. It started with polenta thyme, onion, truffle. It was like buttery smooth fancy mash potatoes with the flavor of what can only be described as happy warm tears from Christmas angels. It comes in multiple dollops which was extremely filling. (This is a cold dish) Next was lentils curry and eggplant. It was the best curry I’ve ever had. It has little crunchy pieces of toast that added a really wam bam thank you ma’am to the whole dish. (This is a warm dish) Stuffed onion, celery, and sweet pepper was the third dish. It was like a fancy lasagna but the lasagna noodles are actually big pieces of onion. The onion isn’t overwhelming- you might think it is because the onion pieces are so large but you’d be wrong, it’s extremely balanced. The sweet pepper just dances on your tongue. Super yummers. (This is a warm dish) Beet-root gnocchi serves as the 4th dish. This was my least favorite- this does not indicate that it’s bad. Beets just have a very earthy taste, to me, and this was no different. I still enjoyed the dish very much. (This is a warm dish) Chestnut-red wine-lime dessert was ah-mazing. Those little lime dollops were like electoral pops in your mouth. The ice cream was tart but balanced with the cake very well. I enjoyed this dessert very much. (This is a cold dish) I will probably never have a meal this nice again in my entire life. It’s worth the money. The only moderately moody thing I can say is I wish all the meals were the same number of courses. My husband got a 7 course meal/ mine was 5 courses and we didn’t have dishes that came out at the same time and he got two desserts- he shared which is nice but I would have loved to have had the same number of courses.

Austrian restaurant
Restaurant
Bärenwirt is a traditional Austrian inn located in Salzburg City, dedicated to preserving the iconic culture and cuisine of the region. The restaurant is renowned for its fried chicken, which is considered the best in Austria, as well as other classics like Salzburger Nockerl. The cozy tavern offers a warm, woody atmosphere reminiscent of a hunting lodge and has been serving traditional dishes since 1663.
I had been looking forward to this for at least two weeks, and it was exactly what I expected—the fried chicken was SO FREAKING GOOD. The outside was perfectly fried, and the tender, juicy meat was just right. They even served a sour potato salad on the side. This was the first time I’d ever finished an entire potato salad; it was really good. I managed to finish both the chicken and the salad, even though the portion was huge for me.
Olay Y — Google review
We stopped by for late lunch and got the spinach dumpling. It was divine!! That, paired with brown butter + cheese - 🤤 so satisfying, even for a meat lover. Aside from that, we had Apple strudel. It was perfectly balance with the cream and somehow tasted very homey. Not too sweet. And of course had beer - which is always nice and refreshing. Wanted to try their fried chicken as I saw many good reviews on it but sadly we were too full. Please do me a favour and try it ok? 😝 Service could be better as no one took our order for quite some time, even though there weren’t many customers at that time.
Siew F — Google review
The food is totally overrated. We ordered the pork ribs, schnitzel, and half fried chicken. The pork ribs were very dry, tough, and had a strong porky smell — not juicy at all, and I think they were overcooked. The schnitzel was average, and the rice that came with the dishes was rather tasteless. The fried chicken was not tender; the meat was dry and lacked flavor — honestly, even KFC or simple street-stall fried chicken tastes better. The restaurant’s ventilation is also poor, and the smell of cooking oil lingered on our clothes after dining. On top of that, the prices are quite high compared to the quality. Overall, it’s really not worth a visit.
Sue L — Google review
It’s recommended to have a reservation here before coming - we didn’t, but we were able to get an outdoors table arranged by the staff. We were initially turned away by the staff at the front desk (claiming that all the seats were reserved), but they were ?fortunately able to find us a table, after it was strongly suggested to them that many of the tables were empty. Once seated, service was prompt and efficient. The food took about 10-15 minutes to be prepared, and we were seated next to the kitchen windows where we heard lots of cooking noises. I whiled the time away imagining the schnitzel getting hammered away, it was effective. We also got the fried chicken - it was basic, you get exactly what was in the menu description, but it was fried beautifully, and the meat was appropriately tender. The schnitzel was similarly tasty, and went very well with the jam. The sausage was alright, just your standard Austrian fare. So was the dessert, it would have been ideal if there was an option to add ice cream to it, but there wasn’t (or maybe they were out of ice cream that day). We paid by credit card, and the WCs were well maintained but not the most accessible (requires stairs). Once we had finished our meal, it started raining and I thought the service staff did a wonderful job in ushering everyone back into the main restaurant. Overall, pretty decent food for standard (Austrian) prices, I’d definitely consider coming back (with a reservation) ;)
Lam T — Google review
Nothing to hype about this place, the food is decent, but not as surprisingly good or a must try place as others have mentioned. One thing that really bothered me was the greeter’s attitude, they seemed to look down on us for not having a reservation on a not so busy weekday lunchtime.
Egg T — Google review
Solid Joint Simple and to the point. The beer was cold, the plates were hot, and I can honestly say the tomato soup is the best I've ever had it my life. Get it while you can since it is on the seasonal menu. Grab the fried chicken, squeeze lemon over it and you will not be disappointed. Inside it may get loud, as there is very little room for the noise to escape, but it makes all the better for a home-type feel that the restaurant gives off. Definitely one of the more better restaurants we tried in the city. Give something a try here, especially if you are looking for a more traditional plate here in Salzburg. Pros Traditional Food Attentive Staff Not Rude Cons Loud and Noisy Space Small Interior
Robby L — Google review
If you're planning to have dinner here, please make a reservation ahead of time as it fills up rather quickly. The food is excellent! This is where you can eat some truly Austrian dishes. The service was also friendly.
Joel D — Google review
Don't forget to reserve a table! We managed to have dinner at 3rd attempt. Everything was great. Nothing was too salty too. The original schnitzel comes 2 pieces which was a lot for us so I wish we ordered less. Kids loved everything especially creamy mushroom and lemony potatoes which came with fried chicken.

Balkan Grill Walter

Takeout Restaurant
Balkan Grill Walter, also known as "The Bosna Grill," is a beloved spot in Salzburg that has gained a cult following among both locals and international travelers. This Bulgarian-inspired, Salzburg-born specialty features two grilled bratwurst sausages in a toasted white bread bun, topped with chopped onions, fresh parsley, and a secret curry-based seasoning mixture created by the owner over 50 years ago.
Popular “Bosna” hotdog among both local and tourists.🌭 We come just after opening time and there is a small queue already. All hotdogs are freshly made right after taking order so do expect a small wait.😉 <No.3 Senf, Gewürz> Very hot upon receive.🔥 The bread itself is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I must give a big kudos to the mustard paste. It matches so perfectly with the hotdog and takes it up a notch.💯 The sausages are yummy and juicy also. Definitely a hidden gem in Salzburg!😋 Please do give a try when there is short queue only.🤭
Jennn H — Google review
It’s more a hype than something extraordinary. Don’t waste your time in a long queue. The Bosna is made fresh but there is not enough sauce in it. The sausage is too peppery and the canned refreshment was just was on room temperature. In this category, I would say it is better to eat a kasekrainer in any würstelstands. The servers were kind and fast. Card is payment is accepted.
Tamas A — Google review
We ordered menu items No. 1, 2, and 3. To be honest, they all tasted quite similar—good, but nothing particularly memorable. The one standout element was the use of curry powder, which gave the dishes a slightly unique twist. Overall, the food was average and the portions were relatively small. In my opinion, the place is a bit overrated given the hype. It’s fine for a quick bite, but not something I’d go out of my way for.
Patrick F — Google review
We had the original Bosna here. Loved it. The original comes with just the sausage and small diced onions/parsley and a spiced powder. This small (truly) a hole in the wall has a great food. Been in this spot for 75 years and going. Worth the wait. There were 15 or so people in line at any given time.
Tushar M — Google review
We came around noon and there was already a long line, which seems to be quite common here. We waited for about 10 minutes. We ordered two original hotdogs — they were decent, but not particularly outstanding in my opinion. Still, it’s worth a try if you’re in the area and curious about a local classic.
Ngân B — Google review
A nice spot to grab a Bosna if you're in the old town. It's no frills and is tucked away in a small alley. When you order, you just eat standing in the alleyway. If they ask if you want it to go, just say no since everything is to go. If you order to go, they wrap it in foil and put it in a bag which just seems wasteful if you're going to immediately eat it.
Brandon O — Google review
Tucked away in a tiny side street, we found a long line of people — all waiting for food from a small Balkan-Grill stand. Of course, we got curious and joined in. The “hot-dog-style” snack was pretty good, nothing too special, but tasty enough. Probably the most affordable bite in the old town — and clearly a local favorite! 😄
Ditti K — Google review
I’m not sure if this is the authentic Balkan-style Bosna, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. The bread was dry and fairly standard, the sausage was ordinary—nothing particularly special—and the portion was quite small for the price (€5.90). Given the hype surrounding this place, I found it overrated.

Pastry shop
Cafe Konditorei Fürst, located in Salzburg, is renowned for creating the Mozartkugel, a delectable chocolate treat filled with pistachio marzipan and nougat.
I tried the sweets from different shops. I bought the manner and mirabell ones from supermarket. I think the taste of marzipan is what makes this sweet special. In order of personal preference: Furst - a good balance of chocolate and marzipan flavours and not too sweet Josef - has more of the green marzipan which tastes stronger than the chocolate. Not too sweet, but sweeter than furst. Manner Victor Schmidt - does not have the distinctive green core but I could taste the flavouring and is good value for money for a big bag. Sweeter than furst. Braun - chocolate taste stronger than marzipan but the chocolate taste good. Sweet. Mirabell - has the nice distinctive chocolate shell and green marzipan core. The chocolate shell was harder than the others and I did not taste the marzipan. Sweet.

One of the oldest coffee/pastry shops of Salzburg, and the inventors of the Mozartkugel. If you have a sweet tooth it’s a must visit when in Salzburg. Located on one of the picturesque central streets, it offers an ambience of the 19th century as you enter the shop. They offer a wide variety of tasty sweets, so go crazy in trying things out, but definitely save a spot for the famous Mozartkugel.
Tamás M — Google review
I relaxed and soaked in the old-world charm of the café while digging into a slice of chocolate cake and sipped on coffee. Much to the LO frustration, there was no WiFi, so he sat there thoroughly bored! I picked up several of their beautifully wrapped Mozartkugeln to take home as gifts (and, let’s be honest, for myself). I polished them off far too quickly! Sadly, they weren’t to the OH’s taste - but more for me, I suppose.

You can get delicate and well known Mozart chocolate here. It’s the inventor of Mozart chocolate too. Though the chocolate was not astonishingly tasty, it had a richer flavour compared to other Mozart Chocolate sold along the street. The cafe was beautiful, by any chance I am willing to revisit and have some cakes there.

Beer garden
Inn
Augustiner Bräu Mülln is a historic brewery and tavern that has been in operation since 1621, making it one of the oldest establishments of its kind. The venue offers both indoor and outdoor seating, including a large beer garden. It is renowned for serving traditional Austrian cuisine, with options ranging from freshly baked pretzels to sausages with mustard, roast chicken with dumplings, deep-fried trout, and an assortment of cheeses.
We’d highly recommend this enormous, beautiful, classic beer garden to anyone visiting Salzburg. The beer and food are delicious. Here are a few friendly tips: -It’s cash only. There is a bank/ATM next door to the beer garden if you need to withdraw. -For beer, you grab a mug from the shelf (two size choices), and pay for that size at the register. You then bring your mug to the team member that pours and serves your beer. -For food, there are about a dozen “food kiosks” that you can pay at individually. Across all the delicious selections, we loved the bbq ribs with baked potato and sour cream, sausages, apple strudel, and large pretzels. -There is indoor and outdoor seating in the spring. Outdoors filled up fast, but we loved sitting inside. It’s a beautiful interior. -We arrived about 10 minutes before they opened, and there was already a long line. The two of us were still easily able to find a table inside.
Ray D — Google review
One of the most traditional beer gardens in Austria and one of the best beers I’ve tasted. A variety of options for quick bites that goes well along beer. It is so great that you can rinse your mug with cold water before being served so the mug is cooled. The place was full despite the garden is huge. It was even hard to find a single available seat. A definite must-visit biergarten!
Yeliz Y — Google review
One of the best local beer castle bars in Austria's Salzburg or Innsbruck cities. Once you figure out how to get and pay for beer you....then figure out how to get good food and....then find a public place to sit. There are reserved tables, so beware...lol. It is a multistory brewery with food vendors on the inside. Parking was relatively easy and adjacent to the brewery. One or two local employees got frustrated because we were not fluent in German, but many others were fine with our broken German.
T C — Google review
Bring cash and patience. One type of beer half or one litre. It's good. Food has different options where you queue. Meat places are in demand. We visited on a hot sunny day in September and the place was heaving. If you are one or two people in a group ask to join a table if there is space. Fabulous, noisy and delicious.
Catherine M — Google review
Authentic local jaunt that cannot be missed when visiting Salzburg! Low-key, casual food options served street style along with 1L steins of the locally brewed Augustiner Brau (500mL steins are available for those unafraid of the locals’ judging eyes). Ordered the pork schnitzel with kartoffel salat (must have!) and pork knuckle with horseradish, mustard and sauerkraut (all absolutely delicious) and enjoyed in the outdoor beer garden. Prices are unbeatable but note it is CASH ONLY.
Isabella G — Google review
Highly recommend a visit to this brewery. *cash only* Excellent way to have a local experience. They have several food stands which offered great options. I had ribs and a baked potato plate for just under 14€ and the food did not disappoint. The beer was also great (for a .5l and a 1l pour we paid around 11€). What to do when you get there: grab some food and snag a place to sit in the dining hall (its communal so dont be afraid to sit next to a stranger). Grab a steiner, give it a rinse, pay at the kiosk, and then give it to the guys for a pour. They'll come pick up your empty plates and cups from your table when you're done. Enjoy!
S V — Google review
Fantastic atmosphere. A little confusing at first - rather than a single venue, it's more a food court with various stalls, and you pay for empty mugs which you then get filled up with beer straight from a barrel - but it's all part of the fun. There are at least 4 separate drinking halls, and it's worth wandering around to check out the decor. The whole place gave a warm fuzzy feeling, and it was sad to be leaving!
Anonymous U — Google review
Awesome spot where you can tell a ton of locals go to. Very typical beer hall experience and tons of fun. 1L of beer was 8€, it's cash only! The food was reasonably priced too but don't expect great presentation, it's meant to be fast and easy going! It was quite delicious however.

This restaurant is a very smart choice. I never thought that I would be so impressed by pasta, but I have to admit, the food was amazing. They don't work with a menu, they have a different selection of pasta everyday, but the choices are varied and they should fit every taste. The wine is also very good, as is the desert. The owner is very friendly and speaks English, German and Italian. Trust me guys, you don't want to miss this spot!

Pasta & Öl I am fed up with restaurants serving food they would never want to receive themselves. I won’t go into details – just judge for yourself from the picture.

It was a great experience for us, as we were celebrating our friends birthday. Due to some rain we popped in here unexpectedly. Definitely a happy accident with delicious food, great staff and a cozy location. Hoping to visit them again before we leave.

Menu is limited to 4 dishes using same pasta but different ingredients - vegetables, meat or seafood based and then have lasagna and ravioli. My dish had ground chicken as meat ragu sauce. As an Italian I would never go back nor could recommend.
James P — Google review
The food is very good. A small and tradional italian pasta shop.

Absolute standout bargain for high quality pasta meal! They perfectly matched their house wine with the pasta too. I had the walnut pappardelle….supurb! The dish was a credit to the chef👌🏼

Die Weisse

Austrian restaurant
Die Weisse is a popular brewhouse in Salzburg that offers a modern take on traditional Austrian cuisine. Unlike some of the more touristy spots in the Old Town, Die Weisse is frequented by both locals and visitors. The menu features classic Austrian dishes as well as seasonal specialties, providing a refreshing twist to the meat and dumpling-heavy fare. Additionally, Die Weisse boasts its own brewery, producing original Salzburgian beverages.
The beer is nice. Because they made their own beer. The food is perfect too. They didn’t charge u the service fee. You can decide the tips you want to give. But every waiter and waitress is so nice. We spent one dinner and one lunch there. Very recommend this place.
REX H — Google review
Just a 3-minute stroll from our hotel, Die Weisse turned out to be the perfect spot for a relaxed Austrian dinner. I booked a week in advance to keep things smooth—and it was absolutely worth it. Service is spot-on, with plenty of staff making sure everything runs like clockwork. They offer set menus that include one of their own beers, but you can also order à la carte. The place is spacious, lively, and full of local charm—definitely a must-visit in Salzburg.

Shoutout to our waiter, Tony! Ordered the Hungarian Goulash combo and girlfriend ordered the bratwurst combo. Both meals tasted excellent; bratwurst skin was snappy and grilled the inside was very juicy and plump. Sauerkraut and mustard were excellent and paired perfectly. Goulash was served in a ceramic tray that I loved! Meat was tender and sauce was deep and rich. Bread roll was fluffy on the inside and nicely toasted on the outside. Ambience inside was buzzing with energy from all the customers. Walking in from the cold and rainy weather, we immediately felt the warmth walking inside. I would highly recommend stopping in for a bite!

Awesome food, drinks and desert. The staff were very friendly and helpfully and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. One great advantage was that the kitchen was always open, so an early dinner after a day of exploration was great. Definitely make a reservation if you are going for dinner after 6pm.

Good for enjoying the local moment with local beer. If the place is so packed, I don’t think all servers are pleased with welcoming customers but consider strangers - they told me tables are all reserved so only 1 hours left to stay (so it was sort of announcement) and even I was looking into menu carefully and he was like rushing me why I didn’t order ASAP. Simply good taste of beer but rest of experiences were quite bad enough.

An excellent place for local cuisine and house brewed beer! Inviting interior, great staff, the food was delicious, and so was the house brewed beer! Very reasonable pricing and plenty of food options. All around great restaurant established in 1901 and loved by the locals.

Classic German experience, wonderful traditional atmosphere with great German food. Really enjoyed our meal at this great spot. Very happy to have some excellent gluten free options including excellent beer.

Die Weisse is a fantastic place that I'd found on Google - it's a bit of a walk from the centre (i.e. the train station), but well worth it. Absolutely super food and beer, I'd recommend the Summer Weiss to drink and the bratwurst which comes with potatoes, sauerkraut and mustard - delicious! The apple strudel is fab too, I don't think you could go wrong anywhere with the menu, which has plenty of choice. The staff are lovely and very attentive - I'd definitely come here again, as it has a great atmosphere and feels like a proper bierkeller. Just one tiny criticism would be that it's a bit confusing as to where to go to meet a server to be taken to your table (turn left after the doors at the top of the stairs and straight down the corridor), but this was no problem in the end.

Restaurant
M32, named after its postcode, is a cafe located on top of one of the largest hills in Salzburg, offering a fantastic view. Accessible by an elevator lift up the Monchsberg or via footpaths from the historic district, it also provides access to a modern art museum. The interior boasts a loft-like design with a mix of neon lighting and deer antlers.
Brilliant, tailor-made service! Although the sudden change in weather kept other guests away, Salzburg sparkled even more beautifully in the night after the rain. And despite us being the only guests, the staff kept the restaurant open just for us until the very last ride of the Mönchsberg lift. Hats off – truly exceptional!

The location alone would have made it a favourite amongst many, the good food and service bring it to the top! My first-pick for Salzburg! Finding a spot in the small parking close to the location can be a bit tricky at times, but once inside the premises, you forget all else because of the excellent service and the very, very good food! Whenever possible, make a reservation and sit outside!

Excellent food and experience as always. Even though I was alone, I got a very nice table and felt very comfortable. The grilled scallops with mushrooms on fennel mousse were the best I ever had.
Kurt M — Google review
This restaurant is wonderful. It has a sweeping view of the city. The food and service were excellent. We walked up and took the elevator down (they gave us free elevators passes). This was our favorite and most memorable meal in Salzburg. Highly recommended!
Jason P — Google review
It’s not only about the view (spectacular, go when the weather is clear). All kinds of modern variations on continental cuisine. Excellent service and…the view.
Elle S — Google review
Located on the top of the mountain as a part of the Museum of Modern Art. The view is amazing! The service is not. The menu is basic.
Andrea P — Google review
A very good find, hidden gem and quality food away from street tourists food. All dishes cooked to perfection.
Sam D — Google review
The restaurant is an unexpected gem. It has an amazing view overlooking the city, and very tasty food. Quality ingredients, attentive service, nice ambience. Definitely a try! I ate the schnitzel and had a glass of wine, both were great!

Airport
Salzburg Airport is the main gateway for domestic and international flights, conveniently connecting travelers to the city and nearby ski areas. Visitors from EEA or Swiss countries can live in Salzburg without a visa, while non-EEA expatriates can apply for a Red-White-Red card for settlement. The charming city of Salzburg offers a compact, walkable historic center with rich cultural experiences and breathtaking mountain views.
Beautifully airport with snow topped mountains in the distance. Small but well functioning airport. Very friendly staff. Fun to see some in carnival costumes today. The Little bee was very friendly 🐝 Food & drinks a bit expensive. Quick boarding. Very professional staff. They were filming in the sunglasses department not sure who the lady was but people seemed very interested in her. Lovely airport to fly to & from

Airport Salzburg is a small nice Airport. You get easily an oversight. It has 2 terminals, while Terminal 2 (Amadeus) is just in winter active. Its a very safe place and there are also small bistro where you can grab some food and drinks.
Michael H — Google review
A small airport surrounded by stunning mountain views, offering a peaceful and convenient travel experience. The basic facilities are well-maintained, and there's a small duty-free shop for last-minute purchases. Clean and tidy restrooms add to the comfort of the journey. My only concern was the lack of a water refill station. While bottled water is available for purchase, I would have appreciated a place to refill my own bottle.
Anuradha P — Google review
It’s a small airport but have all necessary things for an airport. It’s well connected with public transport (bus). There is an open view point outside the airport. You can easily see landing and take off of planes closely. There are few food and other shops there. But only one food outlet after security gate.
Pankaj S — Google review
Small but functional airport. I used it for both arrival & departure during he first week of December and the experience on both occasion were smooth. The station for the bus that takes you to the city centre is just under 100 meter from the arrival hall.

Salzburg Airport is a fantastic example of how smaller airports can be the best. Its compact size makes it incredibly easy to navigate, so you can get from the entrance to your gate in no time, without the stress and long walks of a massive terminal. Access to and from the city is quick and straightforward. The staff are consistently friendly, helpful, and efficient, which makes the whole travel experience much more pleasant. A wonderfully hassle-free airport!
Khaqan K — Google review
Salzburg Airport is a small but very practical airport. During the summer, the atmosphere is calm and not too crowded, which makes the travel experience smooth and stress-free. The location is very convenient, only a short drive from Salzburg city center, and it is easy to reach by taxi or bus. Inside, the airport is clean and well-organized, with basic services like cafés and shops available. Staff are polite and helpful, making the whole journey comfortable. Overall, it is a simple airport but works perfectly for summer travel.
