Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela

Mentioned on
23 lists
Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is a magnificent Romanesque structure and a renowned pilgrimage site, featuring the impressive carved arched portico by Master Mateo. The cathedral has undergone various extensions and incorporates elements of Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-Classical styles. Its different facades showcase diverse architectural influences, from Baroque to Neoclassical.
The architect of this cathedral is beyond amazing, it’s unbelievable. The inside of the cathedral is so stunning, and incredibly beautiful. I had a wonderful experience in the city of Santiago. It’s super nice and clean. The local food and pastries are great. The architecture of the city is wonderful. I really enjoyed it. I really wanted to spend more hours in the cathedral, because it was a peaceful place for me. I already missed that place and I can’t wait to go back.
Sevda A — Google review
Everything about this building is extraordinary. The story of its history with a hermit finding the bones of James the apostle, all through to the current day with its modern pilgrims. The old town in which it is situated is a UNESCO world heritage place and is absolutely charming. Worth the visit to Northern Spain to see.
G M — Google review
The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is definitely a special place. People from all over the world come here after days—or even weeks—of exhaustion and devotion. Standing in the main square, you can see countless pilgrims celebrating their incredible accomplishments. The cathedral itself is stunning. Interestingly, some parts are built in the Manueline style, giving it a unique character. The main altar is breathtaking, but for me, the most memorable part was the fragrance that fills the space—a rich blend of myrrh and incense that stays with you long after you leave. This is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Galicia. I came as part of a tour, but even though I’m not religious, I would love to walk the Camino someday.
Murillo P — Google review
The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is without a doubt the most beautiful cathedral I have ever seen, both from the outside and the inside. Its grand façade, incredible detail, and sheer presence are breathtaking before you even step inside. But once you do, the interior is even more stunning — rich in history, art, and a powerful spiritual atmosphere that stays with you. We visited as part of a day tour and were fortunate to have a guided interior visit. The cathedral guide was excellent and we were given earphones so we could clearly hear everything. Learning about the architecture, the traditions, and the significance of this sacred site added so much depth to the experience. The highlight for me was the moment we had the chance to hug the relic of Saint James. It was deeply emotional and something I will always remember. Whether you are drawn by faith, art, history, or architecture, this cathedral is an absolute must-see. It is a place that moves you and leaves a lasting impression.
Foodieextreme F — Google review
A great place to people watch and see the walkers at the end of the pilgrimage of the walkers (we had cycled a large section of the walk and it’s simply magnificent) Lots of side street with food to cater for everyone and a real ale bar! Sit back and enjoy the surroundings!
David M — Google review
We walked 100 KM of the Camino De Santiago in 5 days and arrived at this absolutely magnificent church. It is so SO stunning and so big. I felt so awed by how impressive it was. The details are so intricate and the whole thing is just massive - it is such a gorgeous sight.
Keziah M — Google review
I believe that the monument I saw in Santiago was the most pleasant! It was filled with pilgrims who had arrived after days of walking! It is truly emotional. It is a massive cathedral with numerous museums to explore. I highly recommend it.
Pamela D — Google review
The Cathedral is the terminus point for those ‘Pilgrims’ who walked the 500 miles, the El Camino’, wether for religious reasons or inner soul searching, it was an impressive sight to see and ponder. It was completed 800 years ago and houses a relic from St. James. For centuries, pilgrims have made the trek. It was humbling to see modern-day folks after completing the walk, some dazed, some laughter, some even crying in celebration of their feat.

Mercado de Abastos

Market
Fresh food market
Mercado de Abastos is a traditional market offering a wide variety of goods, including meats, flowers, produce, and cheeses. It is a must-visit destination to experience the famous food of Galicia. Visitors can indulge in the tempting smells and tastes of fresh seafood from the rias, local cheeses, Padron peppers, and renowned tapas. The market provides an authentic atmosphere where locals and tourists alike enjoy tapas on Calle Franco and Calle Raina.
Great selection of wines by the bottle and by glass. Prices were very reasonable (€3 to €4 for a glass of good red). Staff were friendly and engaging, and were happy to recommend markets stalls to purchase food. Standing seats only. Loved the bustling location in the middle of the market. You need to go early to get a space as it gets busy by midday.
KL — Google review
Mercado de Abastos in Santiago is a great stop if you want a real taste of local life. It’s lively, colorful, and packed with fresh seafood, produce, meats, and cheeses. Even if you’re not buying, it’s worth walking around just to take it all in. Check their timings to make sure what’s open when you visit - as many parts of the market do close early. What I liked most was how authentic it felt—lots of locals doing their shopping, and friendly vendors who are happy to chat or explain what something is. There are also spots where you can sit down and eat, including places that’ll cook what you just bought from the market. Definitely a spot to explore if you’re into food or just want something different from the usual tourist stops.
Summer A — Google review
During my visit to Santiago, I found the Mercado de Abastos to be truly remarkable. It offers a wide array of excellent food and restaurants, including some that have been recognized with a Michelin star. I believe it is a wonderful place that is well worth exploring. ❤️
Pamela D — Google review
This large mercato has everything. Flowers, fish, meats, fruits and veggies. Check hours before you go. Your fish can be cooked for you there as well.
Olivia C — Google review
At first, it was a bit confusing to figure out how the system works. You can buy fresh seafood or fish directly from the stalls, and some places will cook it for you. You need to find places to eat yourself after. When we visited twice in total), not many fish shops were open. First shop we tried, told us we could buy seafood there and bring it to their cooking booth — they would cook it for free, and then we could enjoy it inside at one of the restaurants(we thought we just needed to order some wine or another dish there). But when we tried to enter the restaurantto get seats, we were told we couldn’t bring cooked dishes in. Instead, they offered to cook for us at €9 per person. Other restaurants said they didn’t offer cooking at all — so it turned out that the first shop was the only one that would actually cook your fresh seafood for you. Eventually, we found a wine bar that allowed us to eat there as long as we ordered wine. They had a great selection of wines and very good service. There were no chairs, so it was standing only. Since it was peak time, we waited over 40 minutes, but it was fine because the cooking also took quite a while. (Next time, we’ll definitely go at a less busy hour!) On our second visit, we tried another fish shop. They had a small kitchen in the corner and cooked the seafood immediately after we bought it. Much faster and very convenient. We found a bench behind side of the market and eat there. Overall, it was a very nice experience. The seafood was fresh, big, and delicious — and the prices were good.
Yunjung J — Google review
The local market has a lot of fresh agricultural products (many of which are agricultural products seen on the pilgrimage route) and many tourists come to visit.
Klair C — Google review
Real working market with seafood, meat, and vegetable/fruit sections for the local residents. One area also has a few restaurants serving mainly tourists like us. We tried the percebes/barnacles for the first and probably the last time. Definitely come visit while in Santiago de Compostela.

Museums
The Museum of Pilgrimage, also known as Museo das Peregrinacions e de Santiago, is a captivating destination in the Praza das Praterias. It offers a deep dive into the history of pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela. The museum showcases an array of art, exhibits, and artifacts related to the epic pilgrimage towards Santiago that draws thousands of people annually.
Eye-opening museum on at least four floors which included exhibitions on the idea/concept of pilgrimage worldwide, with an obvious focus on Catholic/Christian pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela. Worth a visit if you have 1-2h to spare. Or you could do it in about 30min like I did while waiting for a train (unfortunately had to miss out the top floor, though). There’s an area in the basement for bag drop which needs a refundable 1euro for the locker to work.
D. W — Google review
A definite must do even if you are a pilgrim. After just completing the northern route I was skeptical about going to a museum. I am glad I did and it was free (Aug 2025). The displays have English text as well and they provide good descriptions. Learnt new things. There was no queue which I found surprising since it was a Sunday in high season.
Simon R — Google review
The Museum of Pilgrimage in Compostela is a small but fascinating museum dedicated to the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. In about 30 minutes, you can learn about the history of Saint James, the Cathedral, and the role of the Catholic Church in the tradition of the Camino. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re already coming to see the Cathedral — a perfect complement to understand the deeper meaning behind this remarkable journey.

:) :) :) :) :) Free entry at time of this review - Sep 2022. Staff really helpful with information - especially Mary Magdalene at the front desk. Museums Display writing and video displays available in Galician, Spainish and English with audio options in various languages available to download via smartphone. Lockers require €1 coin for key deposit and there are very large and small lockers for hiking backpacks as no bags allowed inside. Very worth while for anyone a d especially worth while for those who will consider the pilgrimage to Santiago. Kids loved it especially the musical instruments history and sounds and the place to write and share your thoughts near the viewpoint windows on the top floor.
Hello H — Google review
It was free so I can't really criticize, but the exhibits were quite average. I was hoping to learn about the different pilgrimage routes but it was more about the iconography of St James. My favorite exhibit turned out to be the one about music
Mindy H — Google review
A fantastic museum that explains all about what being a pilgrim is and how the camino came to be. Amazing, plus if your a pilgrim you go in for free!
Hysterical H — Google review
This was a museum that surprised me. After doing the Camino de Santiago I wanted to check this museum out. Glad I did. It's a museum about pilgrimage not just the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage but pilgrimages throughout the world. They talked about many of the different pilgrimages that are in the world. I felt very connected to all those other fellow pilgrims who have walked a similar path. They have old artifacts from The 14th Century from the 15th century. They have writings and manuscripts of pilgrims on their journey. They talked about how the Camino de Santiago evolved into what it is known for today. You learn about St James and his pilgrimage and his time that he spent in Galicia. For being a saint and an apostle Saint James was quite the swordsman on a horse. Having killed many infidels who were not Christian. You learned about the story of how they found the remains of St James and then the building of the church around the remains. To this day they still say that the remains of St James's under the altar in the Cathedral. You can take a tour of the cathedral to see his remains. They had interesting clothing and gear that pilgrims used in the centuries before us to walk there Pilgrimage. In the day of age of Gore-Tex lightweight fabrics weatherproof and waterproof materials it's crazy what they wore to walk their Journey their pilgrimage to Santiago. I'm sure some of you reading this that has done the Camino remembers blisters on your feet when you see some of the shoes that they wore on their Camino you'll be amazed and grateful for the shoes/boots you have. It's a very interesting museum and is free to visit if you're a pilgrim. You should check it out. It's worth your time. Highly recommend.

Pazo de Raxoi, a grand French neoclassical palace completed in 1776, stands as the city council's seat in Santiago. The Historic Center of Santiago boasts numerous remarkable buildings, including the Cathedral, Praza do Obradoiro, and Pazo de Raxoi.
I visited the Pazo de Raxoi in Santiago de Compostela, and its grandeur was striking. This historic palace, built in the 18th century, now serves as the City Hall. The building’s Baroque-style façade is impressive, with beautiful arches and intricate stonework. Located near the Cathedral, it adds to the city’s charm and historical richness. Though I only admired it from the outside, the Pazo de Raxoi stands as a symbol of Santiago’s political and cultural heritage. It’s an essential part of the city’s architectural landscape.
Luciano C — Google review
It’s a shame that council of a city takes a site by demonstrating Palestinian flag in the beautiful main square of the city across the main church

Pazo de Raxoi is a very nice looking City hall. We couldn't do her through it but it was a nice little stopped getting to look at this very beautiful building with great architectural work

Cathedral Museum

Specialty Museums
The Cathedral Museum is a grand museum housed within a Romanesque cathedral, featuring both permanent and temporary exhibits of historic artworks. The museum spans four floors and includes the cathedral's impressive 16th-century Gothic/plateresque cloister, showcasing Maestro Mateo's original carved-stone choir, religious art collection, lavishly decorated sala capitular, tapestries designed by Goya, and the Panteon de Reyes with tombs of medieval Leon kings.
Tour to the Torre da Carraca and catedral rooftop is absolutely breathtaking and exhilarating, experience of a lifetime. It is unimaginable that I am actually standing on the slanting roof of the catedral, which is actually very safe. I had climbed so many church towers in Spain and Portual but nothing is like this to be on the open roof. Besides the price at €10 (including the museo) is very economical (I don’t want to use the word cheap). It’s a guided tour in Spanish, but I managed to grasp some explanations with my poor Spanish.
Connie W — Google review
The Museo da Catedral is a beautiful space with some impressive pieces, especially if you’re into religious art and architecture. The building itself is worth seeing, with great views over the square from the upper levels. That said, there’s very little explanation about what you’re looking at—no signs or context for most of the exhibits—so it can feel a bit underwhelming if you’re not already familiar with the history. It’s included in the combined ticket with San Martín Pinario, which makes it worth a quick visit, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
Summer A — Google review
My combination ticket to the Cathedral included entrance into this Cathedral Museum. There are many well preserved pieces of interesting religious art from as early as the 12th century. Some descriptions in English but most in Galician and Spanish. Loved seeing the Goya tapestries, myself being the sole person in the room with them. Barren cloister and balcony overlooking Praza do Obradoiro. The museum was not at all crowded, only when a few large tour groups passed by. The toilets are accessed through the cloister.
Linda B — Google review
My summary to the tripple combo ticket: El Portico: super disappointed, was honestly not worth it at all. You had to scan a QR code from the leaflet and then listen to the audio by yourself while standing in front of the monument. I was not told to bring my headphones, but we weren‘t allowed to play it out loud. So it has been completely trash! NO PICTURES ALLOWED Museo: quite boring except the „panteon real de compostela“. NO PICTURES ALLOWED. But nobody knew that until you are being yelled at by the workers. The rooftop: amazing experience and guide. But big minus point is that the guides are ONLY IN SPANISH. Unbelievable when you know how many international tourists come ti this city. Still enjoyable view and finally were allowed to take pictures for the memories. Overall, I was quite disappointed and expected more for the price. I recommend the duo ticket „museo + cubertas“. The portico seriously is not worth it! Advise: get the tickets before 12pm or on the day in advance because otherwise - as on the picture i posted - the tickets are sold out.
Anna S — Google review
A very rich an well organised museum. The exhibition is very well done, with an impressive collection of religious cultural goods. Keep some time to visit it.
Pirvu I — Google review
Wonderful Cathedral! Breathtaking of centuries of history and culture! If you are a pilgrim and buy combined tickets (rooftop, museum and poetic of glory) you'll pay 19 euros. Allow a full day to embrace this experience.
Fatima C — Google review
It's well worth to visit the Museum to learn more about the history of the Cathedral of Santiago & you get access to parts which are not open to public like the terrace looking down on Obradoiro Square. The Museum was actually opened in 1930. You can access the Cathedral cloister, in which canons continue to be buried, parts of the original Archbishop’s palace and a balcony on the third floor overlooking Praza do Obradoiro and nearby buildings. The museum is also home to a large tapestry collection and a display of vestments. Valuable church artefacts can be seen in the Treasury. I also did the rooftop Guided Tour which ends up climbing to the top of the north tower of the Cathedral - Torre da Carraca. This was excellent as you learn about its history, the recent restoration and get a feel for how it sits in relation to the townscape as a whole with commanding views of the Old Town and further afield.
Mark A — Google review
The towers and rooftop tour at the Cathedral Museum of Santiago de Compostela is a fantastic experience that lasts about an hour. The views from the rooftop are incredible, giving you a unique perspective of the city and the cathedral itself. The rooftop tours are conducted only in Spanish, but there is an English online guide that helps you follow along, so language isn’t a barrier. I strongly recommend booking tickets online in advance, as they tend to sell out quickly, especially during peak season. The museum itself is small but packed with fascinating exhibits. It is a bit spread out, which can feel slightly confusing at first, but if you take your time, it’s definitely worth exploring. The displays offer a rich insight into the history of the cathedral and its treasures. One of the highlights of the visit is the friendly and helpful staff. They are welcoming and willing to answer questions, making the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, this combination of the rooftop tour and museum visit makes for a memorable trip. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, architecture lover, or just looking for a unique viewpoint of Santiago, this visit is well worth the time and effort.

Cidade da Cultura de Galicia is a modern architectural complex in Santiago, designed by renowned architect Peter Eisenman. It hosts various exhibits, events, and concerts. While the old town of Santiago offers a traditional atmosphere with its winding streets and historic sites, the modern side can be seen around the university area and in art galleries. The Cidade da Cultura stands out as one of the most surprising examples of contemporary architecture in Galicia.
A site of modern and fantastic architecture. It has place for Museum, Library and other events. Open air space for concerts and events is very beautiful. An amphitheater and a skate park are also in the complex. To reach the place one can walk up through a trail which passes through Bosque de Galicia. It is a lovely place still not on tourist map. A panoramic view of the cathedral can be had from here, perfect in morning.

An interesting place with beautiful architecture. Some nice free exhibits but booking also recommended for the paid ones as some of these are guided. Also recommend to see the program online before visiting. Not busy at all.
Giselle J — Google review
We visited the city of culture at the end of the Camino on our last day in Santiago. We found it very interesting.Visited three exhibitions one of them related to virtual reality called Origins. Our daughter greatly enjoyed it. The two others were around local artists. It’s a beautiful l architected place that will keep you entertained for half a day no more.
Yuri P — Google review
I enjoyed my visit very much! I liked the exhibitions in the museum (which are for free), but the building in itself is absolutely impressive, inside and out! Even if you don't like art, worth it to just walk around in the building. And walk around all the buildings on the outside as well, it was cool to see all the different angles.
Anouk K — Google review
Stunning architecture inside and out and beautiful views, even on a misty morning. Saw the Boris Savelev exhibit (free, as was library/archives) and was blown away! The grounds are fun and filled with sculptures and play spaces. If you can handle the hills, I recommend walking from the heart of Santiago de Compestela via the Forest of Galicia.

Priceless!! What an inspiring beautiful gem of a place!! Absolutely fabulous!! The photographs & the structure plus the curves are magnifique!! Loved the nature area with the man made lake. There is a great cafe and amazingly clean bathroom facilities. The fantastic views & the wonderful staff. Unmissable location.

We wandered around the boulevard for several hours. The site was mostly deserted. Interesting sculptures but we never found our way into any building. The museum was supposed to be open but it seemed to be closed. All very bizarre
Nigel D — Google review
The ⭐️⭐️ is for the unexpected & stiking architecture. We spotted the impressive building from town & decided to swing by. We parked in the main carpark & walked around to try & find some info but drew a blank. We entered the first large building … housed an auditorium. it was totally empty, devoid of any humans or their presence. Just large empty rroms & spaces, some with huge, raw plywood doors. It felt like an apocalypse escape room or a Dr Who set, creepy. On a positve note, the toilets were immaculate so we used them & left still wondering what it was all about & how so much money could be spent with so little use or purpose. Very sad when you see how vibrant these sort of buildings can be.

Located in the heart of Santiago's old quarter, Mosteiro de San Martiño Pinario is a must-visit destination for history and art enthusiasts. The monastery boasts a grand interior and houses a religious art museum. As you explore the surrounding area, you'll encounter the magnificent facade of the convent, adorned with a carved stone altarpiece, as well as a stunning Baroque twin staircase nearby.
The experience here is actually really nice, they have a VR program which introduce you about what pilgrims did and their living conditions when they arrived Santiago.
Shiyi B — Google review
Do not visit. The whole ticket system is a scam. You can’t buy a ticket at the monastery. They said you need to go online to buy a ticket, but the internet was slow and I was unable to go, even though I was at the door.
G M — Google review
The place itself is magnificent BUT!!!! the ticket system and opening hours are a disaster. I also see from the pictures of visitors from some time ago that we were not let in to many places they could see, basically we could visit the church and the inner court of the monastery- nothing else. So, do go there, but plan ahead, get your cathedral museum tickets first, don't leave it for the afternoon, and then enjoy what you're allowed to enjoy!
Justyna J — Google review
Frankly speaking it impressed me more than the Cathedral of Santiago. It does not have many visitors, so, you can explore this enchanting place at your own pace and admire wonderful guided carvings.

Ashley M — Google review
While it has an entrance admission, it was affordable & worth every cent. Highly recommended. The place is beautiful. As it's a museum really enjoyed being able to go places in the church we would not normally be allowed. Wish there was an audio tour in different languages or a pamphlet.

A truly under publicized and under appreciated sight in Santiago de Compostela. I had walked by this museum many times and actually stayed next door for several days. Finally, I decided to visit on a whim and was amazed at the size and contents. It is probably more impressive than some cathedrals, and there seem to be very few visitors. Entrance is 3 or 4 Euros, but it is definitely worth it. A very beautiful place.

Fine dining restaurant
Casa Marcelo is a renowned restaurant in Santiago de Compostela, known for its creative Spanish/Japanese fusion dishes. The low-lit room with counter seating and an open kitchen provides a casual yet intimate dining experience. Chef Marcelo Tejedor's culinary creativity combines the flavors of Galicia, Japan, Peru, and Mexico in a cosmopolitan and traveler-friendly setting. The restaurant's inclusion in the Michelin Guide speaks to its excellent cuisine and unique dining experience.
Still one of the few One Michelin star restaurants that doesn't nail you. Great respect for the product. Extremely friendly team. Lovely place and decoration. We ate the Rosalia menu.

The food is absolutely delicious! They promise to surprise you, and they truly deliver. The presentations are so beautiful, you do want to try everything. The staff is attentive and welcoming.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Chef Luis was warm, friendly and engaging. I would have to say that this has been my favorite Michelin restaurant in Spain (and I have definitely tried quite a few). The dining experience took traditional Galician food and created a whole new love for gastronomical art connected to traditional roots. I will eat definitely be eating here every time I come back to Santiago de Compostela.

Extraordinary food in a first class setting. Beautifully decorated restaurant to suit the food presented as works of art. Flavours so sublime words do not do them justice. Fabulous friendly staff and Chef Luis spending time with each client and making them feel welcome as if into his home. All dishes were so delicious it is hard to choose a favourite but for me I think the red mullet with sea lettuce, which was like a stained glass window, was the highlight. Each dish told a story. If you enjoy really high quality cuisine prepared with calm and love, which you can watch from your chair practically in the kitchen, this place is not to be missed. We never felt rushed, dishes were fully explained and it was possible to ask questions or discuss dishes. We were told if something was not to our liking something else could be offered. The ambience is lovely and not at all noisy. We will absolutely return.

Casa Marcelo: Galician Seafood Mastery Casa Marcelo, the acclaimed one-Michelin-starred restaurant in Santiago de Compostela, offers a world-class culinary experience centered on the delicate flavors of Galician seafood. Chef Marcelo Tejedor’s menu is a masterclass in subtlety, treating every ingredient with precision to enhance its natural freshness. A particular highlight is the sorbet, which goes beyond a simple palate cleanser to become a surprisingly creative and essential part of the tasting menu. The service is attentive, timely, and perfectly non-intrusive, ensuring a smooth and pleasant dining flow. The team is professional, facilitating the experience without stealing the spotlight from the food. The only minor critique concerns the physical space: the tables are positioned very close together. In an environment where the nuances of a delicate menu demand full attention, the surrounding chitchat from neighboring diners can unfortunately be disruptive, slightly detracting from the otherwise flawless, world-class gastronomic immersion. Despite this small spatial issue, Casa Marcelo remains an essential culinary destination.

The menu is based on fresh catch of the day and seasonal produce, offering a unique dining experience that changes weekly to showcase innovation while staying true to traditional Galician flavors. The restaurant prides itself on its proximity to the source of its products, ensuring an authentic taste in every dish.
Recommended! Ate there twice & it was consistent. Leave it to the chef & you’ll have your “surprise me” moment. He Served his daily catch, prepared simple but flavorful. Service was prompt & cheerful. You gotta have dessert! Eat indoor or outdoor, where you can also enjoy people watching. Price was reasonable.

Great interesting food. Service from the beginning was 10/10. Waiter more than happy to speak English and explain everything to us. Despite being a seafood speciality restaurant, they were able to offer meat and vegetable alternative of the set menu which was very accommodating. Nice atmosphere, only thing was some items were really salty. More than we’re used to but maybe that’s just a local thing!
Georgia P — Google review
I had one of the most memorable dining experiences at Abastos 2.0, and it wasn’t just because of the food (which was outstanding), it was because of the service, especially from Thomas. He was warm, attentive, and made the whole experience feel personal. The atmosphere at Abastos 2.0 is lively and intimate at the same time, and the dishes are fresh, creative, and full of flavor! Highly recommended
Areej A — Google review
Food was ok, nothing special. Supposed to be a great experience, but very normal dishes, nothing out of ordinary. Relation quality price not good. Atmosphere cold, heartless, not inspiring at all. Staff rude unfriendly with fingers in the soup if you know what I mean. Trying to appear as Michelin more than a fancy Galician furancho. There are better options in the area for sure. Thanks.
Javier R — Google review
It will be really difficult to find a better place where to have fresh sea food and fish in the town. Probably one of the best in Spain. The service is also very good and it has the charm to be by the traditional market. Surely a must visit in Santiago.

Chanced upon Abastos 2.0 while exploring the market. It was outstanding! The freshest produce, fantastic service & great setting & ambiance. Would highly recommend!

This place has a menu that changes daily as they serve food based on ingredients they buy at the adjacent Market. Not only is the food delicious... It is reasonably priced and the service is excellent. A great alternative to the other tourisry areas in Santiago. Highly recommended.

There are so many good restaurants in Santiago that it’s difficult to know where to go. We chose this one for lunch and weren’t disappointed. The fish is so fresh , straight from the market. We had razor clams and salmonetes…..truly first class. Excellent service and all in, a very reasonable price. This is a quality restaurant.

Tapas bar
Bar La Tita is a charming and cozy establishment located in the historic center of Santiago. It offers a slice of authentic Spanish culture, serving tapas, tortillas, and wine on its terrace. The bustling Rua Nova leads to the cathedral square, making it a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. Known for serving some of the best tortillas in Santiago de Compostela, visitors can enjoy complimentary pinchos of tortilla with every drink order.
The most famous tapas place in Santiago. Always busy, but managed to get a table outside. You get a free portion of tortilla with a drink and I would also recommend their Galician style octopus (pulpo a la Gallega), with olive oil and smoked paprika on top, very tasty.👌
Eva — Google review
Very attentive waitrons, tapas beautifully presented & very tasty, drinks come with complementary tapas side dishes as per custom in Galicia. I had the ⭐ Estrella Galicia negra 0% alcohol , served ice cold ❄️, my wife had the bottled pineapple 🍍 juice. We ate Pulpo a Feira, and Zamburiña ( delicious 🤤😋) as per 2 last photos respectively.
Van-Der L — Google review
Restaurant recommended by a friend of mine. I had the best Spanish tortilla ever in my life. I won't regret having lunch here. The staff and hardworking and friendly. The food is amazing (not only the tortillas). Highly recommended restaurant.
Miguel C — Google review
I hadn't waited in a long line for food in ages, but after a friend told me about their tortilla, I had to try it on our last visit. We waited about half an hour before getting seated inside. The tortilla was really delicious and juicy - it just shows that when you make something really well, even if it's simple, people will come. I'm not sure I'd wait that long again, but I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in Santiago if the wait isn't too bad. The scallops weren't anything special though.
Sila — Google review
Amazing food, huge portions, and the best Spanish tortilla ever! Plus you get it for free with a drink. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, but very busy, expect to wait to get a table (I had to wait around half an hour). The waiters are very nice and friendly. Big recommendation!!
Anđela M — Google review
We had the zprza, then Croquetas and the Padrón peppers... and, of course, the Spanish omelet that came with every drink. Really nice food at reasonable price.
Pablo R — Google review
Classic, old-school bar with excellent tortilla and excellent treatment. (The tapa de tortilla with your caña is a welcome touch.) Reviewers complaining should stick to tourist joints.
Philip S — Google review
Ordered patatas bravas and this is what we got. Fries with spicy ketchup, not even similar to traditional patatas bravas, very disappointed. When asked the staffed and showed a picture from another review, they said this is patatas bravas they serve, which clearly isn’t looking at their menu. Good tortilla de patatas free of charge when you get the drink and amazing sangria. Can’t even split the bill, staff not very friendly.

Coffee shop
Restaurante Cafetería La Flor in Santiago de Compostela is a unique and cozy spot with an eccentric interior decor that combines hipster coffeehouse vibes with a touch of Cracker Barrel charm. The walls are adorned with prints and knick-knacks, while repurposed items like an old dryer drum turned into a lampshade add to the quirky ambiance.
The atmosphere in here was great. The decor was super fun. The service was a little slow because there were only two people working and everything on their menu (even the teas) were very labor intensive.

Stopped at this restaurant on a food tour. They seem to specialize in typical galacian cuisine. The best parts were the sea scallops and the crepes. The octopus was my second best with the pork coming in last. A great experience overall.

Great atmosphere (music, decorations, and vibe) and lovely wine but the bun on my breaded chicken sandwich was not edible as it was too hard. Unfortunately staff were not very friendly. Really wanted to like this place and may give it another try because of the vibe…

Real working market with seafood, meat, and vegetable/fruit sections for the local residents. One area also has a few restaurants serving mainly tourists like us. We tried the percebes/barnacles for the first and probably the last time. Definitely come visit while in Santiago de Compostela.

Restaurant
Curro da Parra is a charming and cozy restaurant located in the heart of Santiago de Compostela. It offers an intimate dining experience with an informal tapas bar-style seating option on the ground floor and a well-appointed dining room upstairs. The menu features inventive takes on classic Galician fish and meat dishes, using products sourced from Galicia.
My husband and I ate here on our last night in Santiago de Compostela and it was a delicious experience from start to finish! We tried the baby scallops, tomato with avocado, and Galician beef, which all tasted incredibly fresh and was super tasty. Our waiter also recommended a local wine and, for dessert, the cheesecake and both were amazing. Honestly cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
Ariel L — Google review
We had a wonderful meal here. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We had the group menu. Stand out were the prawns, pig cheeks and baby scallops. The capon ravioli was interesting but super rich. Definitely worth try. The dessert was a cheesecake so soft and silky. Sublime.
M F — Google review
Santiago de Compostela, the capital of Galicia, which we visited for the first time in Northern Spain, is known for its seafood, rainy weather, being the last stop on the pilgrimage route, and its proximity to @doriasbaixas . Our choice for our first dinner was @ocurrodaparra. Pros: Kind and friendly service staff, fast service, the quality of all seafood and the mastery of the preparation of the plates. The quality of the Prawns and the wisdom in its preparation were truly incredible. Cons: We ordered the Steak Tartar because it is one of our favorite plates, but they could achieve a better result with the cutting technique and the use of salt. We didn’t really like the fact that they took us to the table next to the stairs even though we made a reservation long in advance.
Kaim B — Google review
Very exquisite food and wine selection. A short menu with high quality food totally pays off. The cheese platter was a joy of flavours paired with the Galician wine. Gracias por la experiencia!
Daniel S — Google review
I loved Curro da Parra. Having spent 4 days already in Galicia it stood out high above the rest for the inspired menu and the attention to detail from the charming service staff. Had 3 courses, wish i could have had more!
Lewis P — Google review
The perfect afternoon meal. Started with blissful croquetas de xamon that were perfectly silky inside with a crunch outside. The main meal was a glorious presentation of solomillo de ternera, cooked perfectly as requested accompanied with ever-so-thin blue potateos, fried to a perfect crisp. The sauce was a delectable smooth puree of piquillo peppers that are often seen with cuts of veal/beef throughout Spain. Service was well-timed, super friendly and I enjoyed thanking the chefs in the open kitchen downstairs for the wonderful job. The restaurant itself was a perfect representation of the city and country.

Taberna O Gato Negro is a modest yet legendary restaurant in Santiago, known for its generous seafood dishes and traditional Galician cuisine. The unassuming decor takes a back seat to the star of the show: the food. Many claim it's home to the best octopus in the world, making it a must-visit for any food enthusiast.
This is a vibe, I came here to try percebes- which were delightful but the real show stopper…..the “postre del día”/dessert of the day, which was La tarta de piña! Ugh it was so amazing I went back the next day to have another slice. The waiter my first night was high energy and very welcoming, even offering to show me how to eat percebes! Wine selection was great as well! Don’t miss out & try it out, much better service & food than another higher ranked restaurant we had tried.

Great sea food and good service. The Razor clams we extremely fresh and were moving and quite literally got picked from the fridge before our eyes to get cooked! 🐚 I would not recommend sitting outside however if you don't like the hustle and bustle of tourists constantly walking past. But over all food was amazing. I recommend the steamed mussels, the Pulpo, the Pedrons, and the Razor clams. The home made wine from the bowls was also a super unique experience! 🌟🐚
Sophia S — Google review
Gato Negro came highly recommended—we’d heard about it even before getting to Santiago de Compostela. When we tried going for lunch, the line was way too long, so we came back for dinner and made sure to be at the door before 7:30pm. As expected, it filled up within minutes. So, is it worth all the buzz? For me, not really. It’s good, honest Spanish food—fresh ingredients, no fuss, and clearly not trying to cater to tourists. That part I liked. But the food itself is super basic. Nothing surprising, no bold flavors or special touches. I’m glad we got to try it since it feels like a place with history, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return. Worth it once, especially if you’re curious, but manage your expectations.
Summer A — Google review
A local seafood joint where locals and visitors queue for tables even during a rainy day. The atmosphere was great with the hustling and buzzing. Order the goose barnacles (percebes), cockles and the empanadas if you can!
Yvonne Y — Google review
The evening I visited, dinner service was frenetic and staff were definitely rushed off their feet but despite this they were patient, attentive and could speak a moderate amount of English. Food wise, I had a half portion of pulpo a feira and some bread, which was delicious, as well as a small velvet crab, which was fresh, but difficult to eat due to its size. I had wine from both the bottle and the house wine from the barrel in a cup. The only other point I’d note is that there was little ventilation and no air conditioning inside, which made it quite hot to eat inside after a while (which is the sole reason why this is 4 rather than 5 stars).
D. W — Google review
103 years and counting...great recommendation by my cousin! Everything was outstanding! Best to arrive by 7:45 pm to beat the rush and seat down inside or outside. Not readily visible from the rua...look for the black cat on the facade and green door of the building. An ice- cold beer or a vermouth are a wonderful way to enjoy your tapa! Highly recommended

Great sea food! I came here 6 years ago and the place is as good as I remember. Not a tourist trap at all !!! Very nice vibes, and the workers are very very friendly. Amazing lunch celebrating 2 special birthdays, our first Michelin star restaurant experience in Spain did not disappoint. We chose The Algarabia tasting menu, translated to a Noisy Situation full of happiness and joy. It was a joy, to all our senses from the beginning to the end. The wine flight is highly recommended too!
Stuart B — Google review
From appetiters to the main dishes, everything was very nice. The layers of the food were obvious and interesting. However they could do better because the taste of the leaves was too strong for the food. Except the dessert and sweets were quite disappointing especially the green ice thing was awful. The staffs were quite nice though.
Jacky H — Google review
6 out of 5 stars! Absolutely incredible meal. Every dish was incredible and so different. I had the anniversary menu which was 6 snacks, 12 dishes and 3 desserts. All amazing. The mushroom dish might have been my favorite although it’s hard to pick!
Adam C — Google review
A small 5 table restaurant next to a hotel. The design of ears of corn carried through all from walls to decorations and appetizers snacks. The cook had made small surprises, twists and challenges to every dish. Tuna served with beetroot and cherry sauce for instance. Or the small cakes at the end. Where one had a texture that crumbled surprisingly. Or another combining white chocolate with basil. We took the wine pairing with the market menu. It was many wines I would never have chosen by myself es. But each carried it's right in it's own again due to twists, surprises or combinations. We had this on a Michelin trip. But the chef surpassed many of the other stops. While having a humble, down to earth attitude. All in all a fantastic afternoon I can recommend from the bottom of my heart.

Very good menu del dia. Nice covered patio space. Great fish soup, fresh bread, and apple dessert
Nick M — Google review
A very popular and well reviewed restaurant but not to my liking or maybe an off night in the kitchen. The baby calf was chewy, the fish not appealing, every dish was drowned with salt, it was the only flavour you could taste. I probably drink 1.5 liters of water after dinner. The restaurant decor was warm and inviting.
David E — Google review
Very cute place, just outside of the old town. Service was excellent. Started off strong with good tasting wine and razor clams. The broccoli soup was underwhelming (mostly thin broth), but not bad. The cod was really disappointing - undercooked but chewy, lots of bones. We are not the type to complain, so we ate some, moved the rest around the plate, paid and left.
Kate G — Google review
Food reasonable. Tarta Santiago very good, not so the tiramisu (lacked coffee,). Lacon excessively salty and hard. Skate is alright. Squid ink spaghetti tasty. Servings small. 6.5 euro for one basket of bread. 0.6 for each packet of olive oil.
Albert — Google review
It used to be a very good restaurant but sadly the food quality and quantity went down. The "fabada" Bean stew was more like a soup, the "lacon con grelos" Boiled gammon with kale was salty and tasteless. For pudding the peach cheesecake wasn't homemade but supermarket quality. Really disappointed.

Incredibly cozy and loving restaurant. Starting from the ambience of the restaurant, which is very inviting and lovingly decorated, to the staff, which despite lack of Spanish knowledge on my part, fulfilled all my wishes. And finally, the excellent fresh dishes that I can recommend to everyone. I will come again.

Great decor and atmosphere along with attentive service and fantastic food make this a great choice! The crab Croquetas and the Galician style Pulpo are simply amazing. The Lamb and Secreto perfectly cooked. Portion sizes are on the large side... Not the cheapest restaurant in town but well worth the price, which is very reasonable for the quality of food and service.

The food at this restaurant is excellent. Obsluha super. They have delicious fish, pork is perfection. So if you want to visit this restaurant because their food is fantasy. The only thing that bothered us all the way to the menu was a whole bottle of wine and just a drink. But what can be done. Otherwise, there are a lot of people going to lunch there so long waiting for the table.

My first tapas restaurant in Spain. Food taste as good as it looks. We were starving as we travelled without lunch. Entered there after half an hour wait finally at 5 pm. But it was worth it. Every moment. Food came fast and we are satisfied. Every dish of the 10 dishes we order are good ! Ordered seafood, beef and green chilli pepper. Love the plate of prawns ajillo especially. ( prawns dipped in garlic oil ). And yes the white wine was good too.

One of my favorite places in Santiago de Compostela. Sitting up at the bar and ordering tapa after tapa is always a great way to spend a lunchtime. Fresh, delicious food and a huge range of options. Friendly and efficient staff and a superb atmosphere.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here. The service was fantastic, particularly when the restaurant was very busy, we were still well looked after. The food was fantastic and our favourites were solomillo de cerdo and montadito solomillo, and the grilled mushrooms were delicious.
Jason W — Google review
So good, I immediately wanted to go back so I could try more of the dishes! Good portions, tasty and the service is quick and friendly. Highly recommend!
Rossana P — Google review
Loved this little tapas bar. We actually went a couple times - it tends to be open when other places are closed and it is really easy to pop in and grab a bite. We did see it get quite packed during prime eating times (and we were there during the off season). Really lovely tapas and raciones. If you like vermouth, they have a wonderful galician vermouth (which I may have over-indulged in). And prices are not bad at all. If you just want to have a drink, you will need to sit/stand at the bar. If you want to eat you can choose the bar area or ask for a table and get service at your table.

Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport

Airport
International airport
Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, also known as Santiago de Compostela Airport, is the main gateway for travelers completing their Santiago trails from various starting points. It offers domestic and international flights, connecting to several European destinations. The airport provides convenient transportation options to reach Costa da Morte, including car rentals and taxis. Additionally, it is easily accessible from the city center of Santiago de Compostela via airport bus services.
Good Airport with a modern services. The only pitti is that the water fountain is out of service. Hope this is fixed in the future. there is a bus stop that can take you along with the Camino but you surely have to book in advance in the High season. taxi has a fix fare of €23 up to 15km. No Uber (may 2025).

Small airport but assorted of different duty free shops. The food is really bad and expensive though. There were zero taxis for the waiting just arrived passengers, more than 25 people. We waited for an hour and a half!!! Not aceptable.
Merce B — Google review
Small and very well organised airport, with duty free, a few places where you can eat (not very many), water fountain, no smoking place inside the terminal. You may have to wait in line at check-in (see Video) if several flights depart at close times, but even so, it is very well organized and you will not miss your flight.
Enjoyfamilytravels — Google review
Airport as such seems to be a new one and to be well organised. It quite small, but serves the purpose. There are couple of shops, cafeteria inside, as well as children’s playground. The downside is that seating is lacking when there are more flights.
Darius S — Google review
A quiet and airport with basic facilities. No announcements on flights or changes in departure gates so do watch the boards for changes.
John ( — Google review
Yes I saw different reviews before I came here. I think they changed staff and actually considered opinions which is remarkable. The staff now is pleasant and they installed free water fountains with good water. Only complaint - no smoking area despite the space is enough for that.
Roman G — Google review
Shuttle bus 6A drives you directly into the city for just 1€ IN CASH. The station is right in front of the entry to the aiport. It always leaves at :30 and :00 every hour. from the center it leaves from :15 and :45 every hour from 6-22

service 0!! long waiting queus! 2h before flight the check-in counter still closed, no automated/self check-in counter. horrible service from airport agents - all chatting with collragues and don't even look at you! no work motivation, horrible! airport is very modern, but almost everything is closed. VERY expensive, almost same prices as in New York, Zurich....

A Coruña Airport

Airport
A Coruña Airport, also known as LCG, is a small airport located in Galicia, Spain. It offers domestic and international flights and provides convenient access to Costa da Morte. The airport features two gates and a few dining options both before and after security, including a sushi bar, La Pausa restaurant, and Caffriccio cafe. There's also a store called Diver's offering various products and souvenirs.
One of the many beautiful and peaceful small airports of the world. Single digit gate numbers.
James E — Google review
Arrived early, customs were easy and the customs officers were friendly. The return was difficult with a 2h58 delay. The airport is quite small so you don't need to arrive 3 hours in advance; 1h30-1h45 is plenty for this location.
Nate's T — Google review
While A Coruña Airport may be small and modest, it’s efficient and gets you quickly into the heart of the city without hassle. And that’s the real reward—A Coruña itself. With its breathtaking coastal views, rich history, and welcoming atmosphere, the city more than makes up for the airport’s simplicity. If you’re looking for a destination where convenience meets charm, flying into A Coruña is definitely worth it. 🌊✈️

I fly here every year to visit family and EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR at least one of our suitcases is missing. This is not this airport's fault, but AENA's (the company that manages airports in Spain, which operates well below the level.of a third world country). However, LCG should have a better system to deal with the lines of people reporting lost luggage . It''s currently midnight, there are around 15 people in line, I've been waiting for 30 mins, and the line is barely moving.
Maria C — Google review
A small compact airport which is okay however the bus you need to take to get there from the city centre (A4) is quite unreliable so make sure you have a decent transport app to be on top of your plans.
Dominic G — Google review
Simple and minimalist airport. Very clean and hygienic . Good vivid precautions Very fast check in and very cooperative people work here. Clean toilets. They have coffee joint and duty free for small shopping mostly perfume and liquor.
MoHIT J — Google review
Extremely unprofessional and unprepared staff at check-in. They seem to be operating multiple airlines and have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. My experience was with an IBERIA representative who could not speak a word of English and had no understanding of international travel procedures. I was flying from A Coruña to London via Madrid with a tight connection, and she refused to print my boarding pass for the second leg of my journey. As a result, I almost missed my connecting flight — even though my bags were checked through to London. Very disappointing service and a complete lack of professionalism.

Vigo Airport

Airport
Small airport but nice and quiet, only around 10 flights a day, no queue through security, and staff spoke very good English. Few food choice and duty free. Drinking facilities near each toilet. What more do you need from an airport.
Gary F — Google review
A small airport that provides a fast travel experience. The airport is very clean and the duty-free shop provides a good range of products. The staff are friendly and helpful. The airport is a short distance from the main area of Vigo. The security control is fine to pass through and they provide assistance. The experience with the check-in is dependent on the airline. Unfortunately, ours was very bad, but this was not the airport's fault. It is easy to get to gates and information on boards is useful. A good small airport.
Louis C — Google review
positive: nice small and convenient airport! negative: behave of ryanair staff extremely rude and targeting bag size over charges to an extreme level. And inefficiency of passport control, too slow and manual, expect 30min waiting when arriving form UK, 30min it there is only one flight!
Cláudia A — Google review
It is a small airport but with a great customer service and comfortable areas. Most of the cafes and stores are in the boarding zone.
Juaísca R — Google review
Small nice clean airport! 20 minutes away from downtown, $25 or so taxi fares
Somthing T — Google review
It is a nice and small airport. One of the main advantages os it is that you have much more time as going from the entrance through the security check and to the boarding door it shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes. Forget about the stress of huge airports. It also has all the things you might need from a bar to car rentals. Really nice airport.
Alejandro F — Google review
Bright and clean, small(er) airport with a few cafes and shops. The only long lines were at the check-in. Excellent gift shop with many Galician specialties for last minute souvenirs. Rental car drop-off could not be closer!
Inside E — Google review
There is a shuttle bus to the city center just in front of the airport. The service is every 30 mini, 1,4 Euro. The bus doesn’t accept the credit card, only accept less than 10 euro note. Here is the time table!
