Cathedral
Sacred & Religious Sites
Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans, located in the Old Town's Place Sainte-Croix square, is a significant religious building with Gothic-Neoclassical architecture. It is closely associated with Joan of Arc and features stunning stained glass windows depicting her life. The cathedral stands as a testament to the rich history of Orleans, housing relics and artworks from centuries past.
Big church to visit when you are in Orleans. This town is quite compared to Paris and it brought you another relaxing atmosphere
Selena N — Google review
Beautiful large church with a long and eventful history. A first church was built here in the 7th century, replaced by a number of churches in the following centuries, who were all destroyed by fire, war, and the last one by Protestants in 1568. The church you see now is the result of centuries of construction that started in 1601 by King Henry IV. There is a strong connection to Joan of Arc as she prayed in the previous church when Orleans was under siege and after it was liberated on May 8th, 1429. Every year around May 8th, there are celebrations in town marking the liberation, which coincides with the end of WW2

Amazing! The outside and interior are incredibly beautiful. I'm not religious, but I love visiting churches and cathedrals, and this is a MUST visit!! The statues and wooden sculptures are amazing and there are many different saints and holy idols to look at. The small shop sells rosaries and small crosses, along with postcards and wristbands. Didn't buy anything, but that's just 'cause I was too scared to talk french with the seller lol.
ApoDebi123 — Google review
In the heart of Old Orléans stands the mighty Sainte-Croix Cathedral. Amazingly, it gives me the impression of a lighter, almost floating structure compared to the more powerful Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Long and bright inside, generous in its dimensions, impressive in its details, well-preserved and well-maintained. I was immediately drawn to the light and dark colored floor tiles. Centuries of history were written here. In 1492, Saint Jeanne d'Arc walked through the mighty gate, on this floor, to the choir, where I also walked over it. I was touched by this thought and felt a certain power. Just at the very moment I was sitting on a bench to relax, the giant organ started playing, mightily roaring and furious! Could there be more history telling in a cathedral than at this moment?
Adrian B — Google review
Just grand. Renovated inside a few yrs ago. A jewel of Orleans to be sure to visit. Parking and kids play ground literally next to it but keep your parking ticket with or you won't be able to get back in the elevator to get back to the car underground. (They do not have signage warning you of this. Cathedrale closes,at 7pm.
Catherine M — Google review
So much history! Beautiful and finely crafted. Can easily spend an hour reflecting and gazing up at the stain glass windows.
Kathy T — Google review
Nice experience, you can walk around and see all single corner of the cathedral; also the approaching is very exciting.

Orléans Cathedral (Basilique Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans). Another new one for me, from our recent holiday all over France. It was badly damaged in World War 2, both by the Germans and the Allies. Thoroughly restored, but my honest opinion is that it felt a little sterile. Well worth seeing of course. The next one I'm posting was a much more - to me anyway - beautiful building. Watch this space...!

Maison de Jeanne d'Arc is a reconstructed half-timbered house that serves as a museum dedicated to the legendary Joan of Arc. Situated in Orleans, it was the residence of Jacques Boucher, where Joan stayed during a siege in 1429. The museum offers an immersive experience with multimedia rooms showcasing a panoramic film on the Hundred Years War and interactive terminals providing insights into Joan's life and her connection to Orleans.
It was Sunday afternoon when we went so didn’t have to pay to get in but you could only see the film but it was still worth the visit
Stanley S — Google review
Closed for lunch between 2-3.30pm so were turned away. It was a long way to travel to see a house that was built in 1965 and pretends to be from the style of 1429. We loved Orleans but this place was a grift.
Malcolm C — Google review
I didn't get inside since it was sold to me at the entrance that only a movie is available. The rest of the house was not accessible.
Luis G — Google review
Great little video about Joan of arc but not much else to see about her life which was disappointing
Phil N — Google review
The only thing that you could do inside was watching a film about the life of Jeanne d'Arc. It was ok, learned a little bit more about her history.
Lini P — Google review

Market
Halles-Chatelet, situated in Place du Chatelet, was established during the late 1800s. It involved demolishing old buildings and streets to create a spacious square area. Later, in 1882, food markets were incorporated into the site. This shopping destination offers a wide range of high-quality products and stores. Visitors can find delectable sandwich meats, exquisite cheese and yogurt, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, they offer decent bread options.
Great food options

Pretty and folkloristic but extremely expensive. Why are French markets more expensive than the big stores? In all other countries it's the other way round.
Bart H — Google review

Les Halles du Chatelet are marvelous. A collection of food stands including marvelous produce (the most perfect cherries I've ever seen!), butchers, charcuterie, fish stands, a coffee roaster, cheese stands, and more. Wine shops, oyster stands... this is a must-see when visiting Orleans.

Pasteur Park (Parc Pasteur), in Orleans, France, is a historic green space in the heart of Orléans, named after Louis Pasteur. Known for its shady walks, fountains, and flowerbeds, it’s a favorite family spot with playgrounds, puppet shows, and small animal areas. A blend of relaxation and recreation, the park is a lively oasis for both locals and visitors.

Grassy park with space for kids to kick footballs and run around. The mixed flowers in the beds are beautiful. We had a picnic lunch under a tree - beautiful and enjoyable to see the kids running outside!

Beautiful park in the city. Very good for hot days as the trees offer lots of shade. 2 Playgrounds. One for very little kids (rare I. Orléans). 2 merry-go-rounds. A water fountain with drinking water by one of the playgrounds. Very nice plants and green spaces. Everything is very well maintained. In the summer there’s a little train on weekends.
Chrissi H — Google review
Created in 1929, it takes its name from the 19th century French scientist Louis Pasteur, particularly famous for his work on vaccination. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; it is one of the three great gardens of Orléans with the Parc floral de la Source and the Jardin des Plantes. The garden was the Saint-Vincent cemetery and retains its function until 1903, then a 10-year transition period begins during which the beneficiaries can claim the transfer of the bodies. The door of the old Saint-Samson church which marked the main entrance to the Saint-Vincent cemetery is moved to the park to serve as decoration.

Lebanese restaurant
The Lebanese restaurant, Tawouk & Falafel, is highly praised for its vegetarian options and attentive staff. Located in Meung sur Loire, it offers delicious dishes such as hummus, falafel, and baklava. This establishment stands out in France due to the limited availability of vegetarian food. Despite being a small place with warm temperatures inside, the speedy service and ample tables make it suitable for a quick dinner.
Nice lebanese restaurant, cool stuff, the view is good and it's in front of the historical house of Jeanne d'arc. I would recommend it
Mustapha B — Google review
Tres bien pour vegetarian. Had to travel from meung sur Loire to get any kind of vegetarian food and the owner and staff absolutely delivered. Delicious hummus, falafel and baklava. Very much appreciated vegetarian food in France as it's not easy at all, and was worth the journey from a business trip.
Dhaval P — Google review
I went there because it was on happycow and I needed a non-meat dish which was hard to find in French restaurants. I saw they had my favourite motabal and fatouch, so I almost took both, but the waitress suggested me to have a look and I had to change my mind-fatouch did not look like fatouch at all. There was salad in it.. so I took feta salad, it was rather a disapointment, not very fresh taste. Motabal was ok. Majority of main dishes were with meat. My friend took hummus and it was the worst I ever ate, maybe even rotten. I said it to the waitress and she said it's the first time someone is complaining about hummus - as if it made my statement less trustworthy. Apart from that comment she was however very nice and professional. All in all, rather a disappointment, but maybe it was just a bad day..
Urszula S — Google review
Pretty good food. Feuille de vigne and falafel is great. Houmus is also very good. An aircondition would be a good idea. Its pretty warm and inside is hot. Its a small place but enough tables. Very fast service. Good for a quick dinner. Thanks

Fine dining restaurant
Le Lièvre Gourmand is a renowned restaurant located in the center of Orleans, known for its high-quality fusion cuisine overseen by chef Tristan Robreau since 2014. The restaurant has earned accolades, including being recognized as the best table in the city by the Guide Rouge. With a picturesque location facing the Loire River, it offers an astonishing gastronomic experience that reflects Chef Robreau's culinary identity influenced by his travels, particularly in Asia.
Chef Tristan Robreau is very humble and precise. Love how he incorporates his travel around the world into dishes. Those dishes were beautifully infused and i would say, the best comfortable marriage in different culture and local ingredients. Nothing is overpowering or try to be loud, just precise and elegant. I’m coming back every Europe trip!

Parc Floral de la Source is a large park in Orleans, featuring themed gardens, a butterfly greenhouse, farm animals, a playground, and mini-golf. From June to October, the park stays open once a month after sunset for visitors to enjoy picnics, family shows at night, and lantern-lit walks through the highlighted gardens. The park hosts an annual event with exhibitors from all over France offering garden-related products and accessories.
A great place for a family afternoon out. There’s a playground which has a few climbing frames, slides and swings spread out. There are also lots of trees, stones and furniture for children to climb on throughout the park. And, of course, it’s just a lovely place to be - it’s a big park, very pretty and the butterfly house is probably the most spectacular I’ve ever been to.

Very beautiful park but relatively small. I took my time going through and looked at everything but still you only need like half a day fore the visit, wich is okay. There are many flowers but also many structures and green spots with trees where you can sit and enjoy the flowers. They have some bird cages but nothing really special or big. All in all an good park fore a visit

A wonderful oasis of beauty!! It's worth spending a full day in the magnificent gardens and visiting the potager, the birds and the butterfly House, + many other surprises along the way. The château and the bridge over the river generously offer peaceful areas of contemplation. The little train helps children and elderly take advantage of all the beauty and great educational opportunities on offer. For me, the highlights were the chapel, the rose and dahlia gardens, and spending time in the sun around the stunning water fountain. A truly wonderful place. I hope to go back soon.

This park is absolutely lovely. You can spend hours in there discovering all sorts of flowers and trees. There are several play grounds and a butterfly house. There’s also an area with animals (chicken, bunnies, alpacas, donkeys,…), a little train that goes around the park, Minigolf and you can rent little carts to cycle through the park yourself. During the winter months it is only open for a couple of hours in the afternoon. If you plan on going more than once it’s worth getting a annual pass.

A wonderful area on a natural lake near the Loire and next to Orleans. With a sand beach with lifeguards. Near a big playground for children. With basketball and beach volley free grounds. An oasis of peace in summer next to Orleans, completely FREE. Moreover, there is an enormous parking also completely FREE.

The Botanical Garden, established in 1834, is a charming destination featuring various attractions such as a playground, a 19th-century greenhouse, and a delightful rose garden. It's an ideal spot for families to spend the day or afternoon. The garden offers peaceful surroundings with fantastic trees and beautifully themed small gardens that showcase different plantings. Visitors can also explore multiple climate gardens and take inspiration for their own gardening endeavors.
It was a very beautiful place, there are many beautiful things to see and grass fields where you can sit down comfortably. There are Playgrounds for children and a lot of space to walk, you can even go jogging here. I really liked it but i would recommend going in spring/summer!!

French restaurant
Restaurant des Plantes offers a delightful dining experience that combines elegant homestyle cooking with a vibrant atmosphere. Nestled in a beautifully decorated space reminiscent of a Moroccan medina, the restaurant features colorful earthenware and intricately carved white walls in an Arab-Andalusian style. While the ambiance is charming, some guests have noted that it could benefit from more natural light. The culinary offerings are exceptional, showcasing the chef's mastery through various set menus and à la carte options.
My husband and I made reservations for Jardin Des Plantes a couple of days before our visit. We both got the Gastronomique menu and shared a bottle of wine between us. It was delicious but also very filling! We tried foie gras, salmon tartar, a creamy white fish and sundried tomatoes dish, a creamy plum, pork, and morels dish, cheese plates with 4 different slices of cheese to try each, and dessert. I would highly recommend this place for people wanting to experience a multi-course dining experience or enjoy high quality French dishes à la carte in a quiet setting. Also, our host was very nice and timing of the five courses was great! We were there for 3 hours total. For non-french speakers, Google translate is your best friend for the menu, haha.

It was as good as I’d expected it to be: a restaurant that knows and loves food! My favourite type of restaurants… Honest, no-gimmick, not pretentious, just good food and fresh ingredients! It’s my favourite out of the 4 restaurants that we’ve tried in Orleans.

Incredible food! We had the gastronomic menu and was enough for two people, without exploding 😆. I can absolutely recommend the frikasee: the tenderest meat I have ever eaten! The owner is passionate about the job especially the cheeses and he will talk about them like they are his children 😄. The place doesn't look great but if you palate is in heaven, I'm sure your eyes wouldn't mind 😉. If you are in the area, don't hesitate!

The only restaurant that I didn’t rate 5 stars, out of the four we have tried at Orleans. I was quite excited to visit this restaurant (despite the distance from our accommodation) due to its many good reviews, but was quickly let down. The fried shrimp from the amuse bouche did not taste fresh. I ordered œuf mollet (poached egg) as a starter, and the egg didn’t seem to be poached, but soft-boiled (I could be mistaken). I had Parmentier de bœuf as my main dish, and it tasted a little too salty for me. The only salvation was their dessert: baba au rhum. Overall, it was only average, felt like a restaurant only to make money

Day 3

Center of town
For day 3, we recommend exploring the center side of town. Start the day off with Hôtel Groslot, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Orléans Val de Loire Tourisme - Office de Tourisme d'Orléans Métropole. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Hôtel Groslot is a significant landmark in the city center of Orleans, surrounded by historical buildings and charming half-timbered houses. It has hosted notable figures such as King Francois II, Mary Queen of Scots, Catherine de Medici, Henri III, and Henri IV. The building served as the residence of local magistrate Jacques Groslot in the 15th century and later became the Town Hall during the French Revolution.
The Hôtel Groslot is an interesting glimpse into the old mansion and is city administration, going back many years. The building is quite interesting and beautifully designed. We loved the architecture and the paintings were great. The large painting of Catherine Medici learning of the death of her son is amazing.

The old "Hotel de Ville" (town hall) now partially open for public visits. The ornately decorated rooms (about 5 in total) are interesting with clear guides (laminated cards) to reach room in English. Don't miss the Cordoba leather covered tables and chairs. Entry is free. Round the back of the building are some pretty gardens and the repositioned facade of an old church, also worth a look.
PG G — Google review
Built in XVI century this historical place is still interesting to visit nowadays. There is a lot of magnificent pieces of furniture in very good condition. The statue of Janna d'Arc in the yard is still remembering the bomb attack in 1944. The garden has a small chapel of Saint Jacque

I’m a big fan of rooms, and Hôtel Groslot has a whopping 6 of them! They were so great that we left fully satisfied after having seen 5 of them. I’m sure the remaining one is also very epic though. There is a very big mirror in the entrance which, depending on your self-confidence, can make or break the experience. Ours was definitely elevated! In case it doesn’t for you, fret not, because the receptionist is very kind and their helpful cheeriness will surely brighten your mood again. PS: We couldn’t meet Joan of Arc, but that’s ok. We think she has moved out.

The front hall is immaculate. Pay attention to the names of mayors names and portraits in the other room. Overall, it's beautiful work of reparation.

Hello everyone, you can enter this place free of charge! You just need yo tell your country and that is all. Sometimes there might be a wedding ceremony , so you might need to wait for an hour. Taking a picture is allwed of course without flash. People on the reception they also speak English and they are very friendly. Place is just awesome, you can spend 20-30mins with some old furnitures at this house

This is the place of death of King Francis II and also a space used by Joan of Arc. The entry is free and there are guided tours of the hotel. However the hotel is closed between noon to 1400 hr. Limited help in English is available - maybe 1 staff at the front desk can speak. The gardens are very pretty and are a public space used by locals. The entry to the gardens is separate, a 3-4 min walk from the Hotel Groslot entrance. If there is an event happening at the location while you are there, entry is closed without notice, and the staff will ask you to come back at a later time

The Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Orléans is a diverse museum with a vast collection of French, Italian, Flemish & Dutch paintings and sculptures spanning several centuries. It opens daily except Mondays, offering a selection of exhibits for viewing. The museum boasts an extensive collection of European art from the 18th century to the present, with over 700 works permanently exhibited including paintings, sculptures, and objets d'art.
Surprisingly large art museum in the centre of Orleans. Art from a range of eras and both older and newer depictions of the life of Joan of Arc. I particularly liked the unknown male sitter by an unknown artist. There must be an investigation to be done here:)

Bekir K — Google review
Large museum on four floors where you start on the top floor and work your way down to follow the art chronologically from old to new. There are a lot of paintings on display, but most of them are serial production. Like with many of these types of museums, I just slowly walk through the galleries, occasionally stopping for an interesting piece of art.
Seimen B — Google review
Not crowded , very nice collection of 19th century french paintings, and Saint Thomas by Velasquez is not to be missed...

We made a day-trip to Orléans to visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts. They have a lot of wonderful pieces starting from the 1600s to roughly the late 1800s. We spent about 3 hours here and really enjoyed it. I recommend using the cathedral parking garage because the museum is right across the street from the cathedral and you can visit the cathedral as well (also highly recommended).
Seth N — Google review
If you love Art, you must go and experience this museum. I really enjoy the stories behind those canvases and I can also sometimes try to figure out what's the story behind it. There's a huge hall inside where the philosophers statues stand with a lot of landscape canvases and portraits all over the walls. And what I love the most is that it's accessible for wheelchairs ♿
Eiden N — Google review
A good museum. All the descriptions for the art are in French. This is fine as I can understand some, however I tried to use a clever translation app and was pounced upon by the staff for trying to take photos of the art, which I was not. Strangely when I bought the tickets at the front desk, the cashier asked in French if I had an umbrella (parapluie) I did as it was raining. I was requested to put the umbrella in a locker. I did so. We were then followed round the museum by the security staff observing our every move. The problem came to light that we were carrying a bottle of water, we were apprehended some way in and had to secure the bottle in the locker with the umbrella. All very strange but a good museum.
Dominic H — Google review
Very nice museum, not at all crowded. My one complaint is that apparently some of the paintings (that, according to the website, were supposed to be on display) were for some reason hidden in storage, without any information about it. It was disappointing, because I came there specifically to see this one painting and it turned out it wasn't there. I asked the staff member about it, and he just stared at me as if he'd never heard of the painter, even though her name is displayed among others above the entrance.

We bought the 1 day tourist pass at 24€ but the whole thing was difficult to access . We went to the museum de beaux arts and the bar code did not work . We spent 30minutes trying to get in . The same at the Maison de Jean D’Arc where they would not let us in as the code did not come through on my phone .We went back to the tourist info made a few calls then we tried the tram . They would not let us on as again no code . What a crazy system . We paid more for 2 items and could not use the Pass. Why can you not just issue a card on paper with a number. It ruined our day as we spent more time trying to get in places than seeing them Waste of time and money Very disappointing service

Le Brin de Zinc Restaurant is a classic French brasserie with a retro-themed venue and quirky decor, offering a wide variety of dishes from classic French to modern American. The restaurant has an eclectic atmosphere and brilliant staff. While the cocktails were strong but tasty, some items on the charcuterie board received mixed reviews. The escargot was highly recommended, while the duck and potato dish was good but not outstanding. Similarly, the tartare was okay but not exceptional.
Had one of the BEST dinners here during our trip to France. Great food, wonderful service, very pleasant atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Best to have a reservation because they tend to fill up rapidly!

Just finished a lovely meal here as a family of four and would definitely recommend. The staff were very friendly and patient with our English and with our young children, and helped provide allergen information. The atmosphere had a nice buzz on the terrace on a Sunday evening. Our food - steak tartare, a burger, a children’s fish & chips and a children’s mussels - were all great, and the dishes brought to other tables looked equally tasty.

Started with cocktails and charcuterie board. Cocktails were quite strong but tasty. Everything on the board was good, but the ham was off/sour. The escargot were very good would recommend. The duck and potato dish was good, but not outstanding. Similarly with the tartare it was ok, but we have had better. Overall satisfactory. The service was polite and fast, food and drinks were very quick to arrive. We only speak english and we were able to converse with the waiter and get dish recommendations. The creme brulee was good but not great, same with the ice-cream special they have right now. Waiter was friendly and accommodating. Tldr: this place is good for the cheap prices you are paying!

Staff was friendly, atmosphere and decore is nice. Food was not that great fries are clearly frozen. Clamps missing rates and had a watery feal to it. Tartare taken from friends that I rates were not good. Duck taken by others was very dry. The yellow wine chicken that I tasted , gravely was watery and potatoes felt reheated. Did. It even try a desert as I felt it would be a Disappointment. Overall ok for a drink nothing more. Prices are ok though, in line with what you get.

I really enjoyed my time at Le Lutetia restaurant, where I had the opportunity to sit and admire the cathedral. The restaurant's prime location is definitely its greatest advantage. Their brunch menu was reasonably priced at less than 11 euros and included a choice between a croissant or pain au chocolat, a bottled fruit juice (not freshly squeezed), a hot drink such as hot chocolate, two slices of bread with butter, raspberry jam and marmalade.
Excellent coffee shop facing the cathedrale d'Orléans. Their breakfast and snacks are yummy while enjoying the view.

The Le Lutetia Restaurant is a popular spot, right across from the Cathedral. We found that the food is okay though not great, the prices were reasonable however. A perfect location in front of the cathédrale Saint- Croix! The food is ok, but this place is all about location. The tramway stops just à few steps away.

What a shame. The Flammkuchen were literally inedible (and we were hungry). If you sit down for a drink, enjoy the view. But stay away from the food!

We went for breakfast. After ordering drinks and finally getting the waiter back to the table to take our order, he informed us he was out of bread and vienoisseries. He was not very polite about it. Upon leaving, we saw a literal entire table filled with pastries?
Scarlett M — Google review
I really liked sitting there and staring at the cathedral. It's location is its biggest asset. I had a brunch menu for under 11 euros- 1 croissant (you can choose pain au chocolat instead), 1 fruit juice but it's the bottled version and not the fresh ones and I had orange, 1 hot drink and I had hot chocolate, two tranches of bread with butter, raspberry jam and marmalade. The waiter came for me immediately to take the order since there wasn't anyone else but it took a while to get the bill so I went and paid directly.

Bagels Coffee is a popular fast food eatery that has gained a positive reputation. Customers are warmly welcomed and can choose from a variety of three different menus. The overall dining experience is impeccable, with particular praise given to the well-prepared Caesar salad, which boasts fresh ingredients and generous portions. The establishment offers great value for money, with an excellent quality-to-price ratio.
A pleasant and delicious place Pierre the owner is cute and kind. A selection of delicious and fresh salads and interesting toast combinations to choose from and the coffee is of course excellent, highly recommended to come. Located in the center of the shopping center and the place is air conditioned

As a New Yorker, I know NYC grade food when I taste one. Had one of the best hot dogs ever, so good I must have had 5 on the spot, the food was so good I ordered Pizza for take out. This place may be the reason I revisit Orlean next time I’m in France.

We popped upstairs whilst waiting at Gare de Orleans to walk into a shopping centre. There we found Bagels Coffee Restaurant. The hot chocolate is superb. We returned another day and enjoyed one of the New York themed bagels and off course hot chocolate. If you are waiting at Gare de Orleans, this is a great place to grab a quick bite and a warm brew. We didn't take a photo but the bagels are great. We would go again but have left Orleans.

Pont George V is a historic bridge in Orleans, France, crossing the Loire River. This arched masonry bridge was designed by Jean Hupeau and built between 1751 and 1760. It offers a majestic view of the river from about 5 meters high. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk through the city center's Arcades to reach this beautiful old-style bridge with big arches. The area around the bridge is described as clean, peaceful, and perfect for relaxation.
One of the oldest of the bridges connecting the two sides of Orleans.

If you are in France, and you want to visit city of Orléan situated on the river Loire. Take a nice walk through the city center's Arcades. Very beautiful and clean area with high quality shops and boutiques. You will reach on the riverside. The Pont George V bridge is a beautiful old style big arches bridge. Standing on the rocks & stones build high walls, you have a majestic view on the River from about 5 meters height. Enjoy the bridge, then walk upstream, nice paved area, you can sit on the wall and enjoy the river. In the water about 50 meters away a sandy island reserved for water birds. You can see many ducks. If want want to enjoy some food, a modern restaurant is on the riverside alongside with Pathé. Enjoy your stay and have fun.

History Museums
The Musée Historique et Archéologique de l'Orléanais is a small museum that offers an intriguing glimpse into the ancient Gallo-Roman period. On the second floor, visitors can explore various ancient findings, while the first floor houses a collection of stone 'shoo signs' and porcelain. One of the highlights is an exhibition showcasing ships and trade along the Loire river, featuring impressive ship models.
We took a trip to visit the city and decided to check out some of the museums. This is a very nice museum with things that you might find in the Louvre. The staff was friendly and they also have student discounts which is very helpful. If you're looking for some place to stop and see then you should come here
Mike S — Google review
Very small museum with very poor exposition for that kind of cities with such a reach history. Very friendly and helpful stuff though.
Def T — Google review
You know, it’s just not very good. The collection is just ok. The building is a 1960s reconstruction after the original was fire bombed. It just has the feeling of being low priority for the city authorities.
Graham T — Google review
A small museum about some ancient findings og gallo roman period in the 2. floor and stone collection of "shoo signs" and porcelain in the 1. floor. Also and maybe most interesting is the exebition about ships and trade along the Loire river. It has some nice ship models to see. Entrance fee is aroung 6 Euro and you can use the tickets at 3 other museums. So good to keep the ticket! A visit takes about 1 hour. Descriptions are in French, but you can take translation handouts in every room. The stuff is helpful and friendly.
R. A — Google review
It was amazing!!! The pictures and sculptures and artefacts and what not... They have a few rooms that show how the Dukes used to live and some of the rooms are really well decorated. It's funnily organised though and that's why I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5. It's best to just follow the numbers marked cause otherwise you're gonna miss out on a few rooms. The easiest way to get the aerial view of the Dukes Tombs is to ask for directions from one of the staff cause it's a small staircase hidden in some random corner.
Priyadharshni R — Google review
I understand much had been destroyed during the war, but the collection is still too few for such an important city in French history…

Nice spot to sit and enjoy the view of the River Loire. This year they have added benches made out of palettes that face out to the river. In the evening there are always lots of people sat here drinking beer and wine. It's a very relaxed atmosphere, with live music often or some janky "spectacle". This year I notice there is a Portakabin for toilets, which is an upgrade on the previous years. Watch out for the rats though, can be seen scuttling around, but its not from it being dirty as there are plenty on the Loire river banks. My dog goes made for them once she gets the scent!

FRAC Centre, located in Orleans, is a futuristic museum dedicated to architectural and contemporary art. The building itself, known as Les Turbulences, is a sight to behold with its polygon-style design. One of the museum's notable exhibits is the Memorial Museum to the Children of Vel d'Hiv, which commemorates over 4,000 Jewish children who were interned during World War II.

The Frac Centre-Val de Loire, also known as Les Turbulences, is a contemporary art and architecture center located in Orléans, France. Established in 1983, it is part of France’s regional network of public art collections. The center is renowned for its striking modern building designed by Jakob + MacFarlane and its unique focus on experimental architecture and contemporary art. It hosts exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events, making it a vibrant hub for creativity and innovation in the region.

Very beautiful and friendly museum of architecture in Orleans. The exhibition is not very large but it was super interesting, with a part permanent connection and a part rotating exhibition. They also had an atelier with activities for children which my daughter really enjoyed. Friendly staff, interesting building and the admission was even free. Totally recommendable!
Pablo F — Google review
Very interesting modern art and architecture exhibitions. Made a great and succesful effort to make it interesting for kids
Pieter S — Google review
The exhibition is free, so shouldn't complain. Most explanations are in French, which I regrettably do not speak. Neither do I have a great understanding of architecture, which is a reason why I wanted to go here. When going through the exhibitions, I enjoyed how well it was presented, but being it mainly in French, much was lost to me. I did not learn much and would have benefited from either a tour guide. It would have been nice if the explanations were in English as well, but I guess it is not an English speaking country and I understand the reasons why it was not.
Pieter B — Google review
Beautiful. Interesting. Inspires.

I went on a Tuesday so the museum was closed. I haven't been inside the museum so cannot comment on what's inside. However, the building is different from the rest of the built fabric. I cannot comment on the form because it an architect's artistic freedom to decide how the building should look like. It's a 10 minutes walk from train station do worth a visit if you are in Orléans.

Good localisation, decent menu. Assiette basic, but ok, maybe apart from jambon serrano which had a weird taste. Only one type of cheese. 3 cornichons.. Pizza was very good, enough for one person. Unexpected ingredients like potatoes or eggs - final effect definitely worth trying. Salade sardalaise enormous, croutons and potatoes not fresh, salad maybe, literally 2 cherry tomatoes and jambon serrano.. I enjoyed it because I have a bad taste, but probably noone else would :) Not many vege options. One pasta (pesto) and 2 or 3 pizzas without meat/fish maybe. Pop music, smelly toilettes, not very italian apart from pizza. Nice staff. To go or not to go? I do not know :)
