Cathédrale Saint-Gatien

Mentioned on

Catholic cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Cathédrale Saint-Gatien is a Roman Catholic church located in Tours, dedicated to the city's first bishop, Saint Gatien. This iconic landmark boasts medieval stained glass and royal tombs, with parts of the cathedral dating back to the 12th century and featuring flamboyant Gothic style from the 15th century. Despite being hidden within the city, it is a must-visit tourist attraction with a rich history of being burnt down and rebuilt twice.
Went to Sunday mass in December and it was a lovely service. The stained glass windows were beautiful and I loved being able to walk around and look at the statues and paintings after mass. Gothic architecture at its finest!
Shawna B — Google review
This place was very special and of course worth visiting when in Tours. I learned from my friend (local and history enthusiastic) that the walking nave around the altarpiece was usual in cathedrals across pilgrimage routes. In that way the pilgrims visiting wouldn't disturb the priest or service as much.
Covadonga T — Google review
Very old and very peaceful. The stained glass windows are incredible as is all the paintings.
Alan R — Google review
Free entry and it would be one of my favourite old churches, great design, immense height and stunning workmanship.
John E — Google review
Cathedral is UNREAL. Feels like it was directly taken out of a movie or smth. I can't describe the atmosphere there. It's so relaxing, and it seems like you travel back in time😍😍😍😍😍
Vinum — Google review
The first cathedral I have visited in France, keep my good memory stay here.
Daud — Google review
A beautiful Cathedral in Tours and well worth a visit. Tours is a lovely town and easy to walk around. Would pay to leave the car at a parking lot by the river and walk in.
Douglas L — Google review
A beautiful cathedral which is extremely informative, this includes information on all of the amazing stained glass windows that span the length of the building. You can access the majority of the building and you can spend as long or as little time here as you like. Well worth the visit.

Basilique Saint-Martin de Tours

Mentioned on

Catholic church
Sights & Landmarks
Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Basilique Saint-Martin de Tours, a neo-Byzantine church, was built in the 19th and 20th centuries to honor Saint Martin, the revered bishop of Tours in the 4th century. Designed by architect Victor Laloux, it features unique architecture. The basilica houses the tomb of St. Martin of Tours in its crypt and has been rebuilt several times over the centuries.
This is a fantastic piece of architecture and the exterior doesn’t do justice to the inside. Inside the basilica is exquisite. The large domed roof frames the alter and is very humbling. Underneath the alter is the crypt which is another must visit with a very somber atmosphere. This is a must visit for any trip into Tours
Alex M — Google review
This is an important basilica built over the tomb of St. Martin, the patron saint of Tours. We passed by while in the city recently and found this to be an interesting church to visit. Interestingly, the basilica history seems to have begun in the 5th century. However, the present building that you see was only constructed between 1886 and 1924 replacing the earlier medieval building that was demolished during the French Revolution. It is Neo-Byzantine in architectural style which would have been different to the Gothic features of the earlier church. The exterior and facade that can be seen today is fine, the interior nice to view as well. It includes a latin cross layout, modest decor and a crypt where you can see the tomb of St. Martin.
Brad — Google review
Saint Martin’s tomb is in the crypt, which is a must see. Another key part of this church is the main altar. The wooden painted ceiling is also quite peculiar
Ludovica S — Google review
Greatness! This basilica is just immense and has the beautiful statue on top if the exterior dome. The true gem is in the crypt where Saint Martin is buried. Pilgrims used to be organized to pray in front of his remains
Globetrot M — Google review
An old and interesting church. You can visit a room below the main stage. In this room you can find the skull of the priest of this church. You don’t have to pay anything to visit this place.
Emelli R — Google review
Lovely basilica. Open daily.

Musée des Beaux-Arts Garden

Mentioned on
6 lists
City park
The Musée des Beaux-Arts Garden, also known as Jardin Francois Sicard, is a charming park located in the Palais des Archeveques. The garden features a historic cedar tree rumored to have been planted by Napoleon and an alcove housing a stuffed elephant with an intriguing backstory. With the museum at the forefront and a cathedral in the backdrop, this well-maintained garden offers a picturesque setting reminiscent of the beautiful gardens found in Loire chateaus.
On a summer day, this park with the museum in the front and cathedral in the background is just amazing. The garden is well maintained and flower arrangements reminding some of the Loire chateaus beautiful gardens. Inside the garden, you can also find a kiosk where you can buy something to eat and drink, a playground for kids to play and shadow from the trees to keep you cool in a hit summer day.
Damoc C — Google review
This is a small but nice garden within the grounds of Musée des Beaux-Arts in Tours. The garden is very nicely manicured and makes for a lovely short walk to enjoy its grounds. There is a kiosk and a few chairs under the foliage of mature trees if you fancy a beverage or rest within the garden grounds.

Museum of Fine Arts

Museums
The Museum of Fine Arts, located in a former archbishop's palace near the cathedral, offers a vast collection of art including Flemish paintings, works by early Italian painters, and major pieces from the 20th century. The museum constantly renews itself with superb temporary exhibitions and unique initiatives like Karaoke conferences and Paintings for tasting. Visitors can also enjoy the pretty gardens surrounding the palace, which is home to a famous cedar tree planted by Napoleon.
I’ve been here every visit to Tours (au moins 10x) and it is magical every time. Summer is the best when they have a portable café in the gardens. The Belgian and Dutch art is fantastic and the local landscape paintings of Tours, Saint-Cyr-sur-Loire etc are my favorites - the next morning I feel like I’m in the paintings when I go jogging near the river
Josh A — Google review
A nice small museum that took me about an hour to walk through. There is almost nothing written in English in the museum, so it's good to carry Google Translate with you (just one staff member seemed to know English). Lots of artwork from the 1800s from known artists, and also a few impressionist (and neo) works. Also a bit of modern work that was pretty nice. It's in a really old house that is interesting, and some sculptures and clocks on display. Easily worth the ticket price, and after several days in Paris museums this was relaxing since very few people inside. As I said, have translation app with you!
Raman P — Google review
The best place for you to visit. It’s very interesting. It had three floors with art frames. There is a room dedicated to the history of Tours. You need pay 8 euros for visit the museum.
Emelli R — Google review
A thoroughly enjoyable walk through history! And the gardens were lovely too.
Indy B — Google review
Beautiful building. Lots of history. Cafe in the grounds too with outdoor seating.
Mrsrdiamond — Google review
A good art museum with interesting (and some famous) works. A pity it has a common toillete when men, women, and children use the same lavatory area. Also, so of the employees (woman, white, seemed like manager or some kind of boss) is short tempered and completely in the wrong job of working with the public.
Razvan S — Google review
Walkable museum with a good collection of art.
Katherine S — Google review
A great collection of art, both classic and contemporary. Didn’t expect to see Goncharova, Monet, and other masters here. Definitely worth a visit

Vieux Tours

Mentioned on
4 lists
Historical landmark
Vieux Tours, also known as Old Tours, is a charming area characterized by its cobblestone streets and medieval timber-framed buildings that house a mix of bistros and bars. The neighborhood is home to Cite de la Creation et du Numerique, which was once an industrial zone called Mame but has been transformed into a hub for creativity and technological innovation. This includes support for start-ups, research and development labs, technology incubators, and a fine arts school.
The historic city centre is combined with the new buildings. I actually like the contrast and how well maintained the old building are and how they kept the rustic style alive. It looks a bit bavarian but definitely also different. The centre is alive and there is a lot to see.
Nali ( — Google review
Not the same without Marco et Adrien. Nonetheless it was a great trip.
Benton H — Google review
Old square in Tours with some touristy resteraunts. Pretty small square filled with resteraunt tables. Much nicer vibe down some of the old streets approaching the square and some historical sites, such as the old Executioners house which are worth hunting round for
P F — Google review
Beautiful city, amazing old buildings. Love it. I will come again and spend more time.
Ana — Google review
Beautiful historic buildings, with streets lined with a great selection of bars and restaurants. Keep an eye out for ancient woodwork (in varying states of repair) on the ancient buildings. Lovely buzzing atmosphere, popular with Tour's large student crowd.
Nicole G — Google review
Lovely with fun restaurants. Plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the classic architecture of the area.
Meaghan E — Google review
A lovely area of Tours. Been visiting now for almost 40 years, plenty of restaurants, plenty of bars, find the ones that suit your purpose. Or just wander around and visit the shops.

Musée du Compagnonnage

Mentioned on

Museum
Specialty Museums
The Musee du Compagnonnage, also known as the Guild Museum, is situated in the cloisters of the 13th century abbey of Saint Julian in Tours. This municipal museum showcases a collection dedicated to the Compagnonnage, an apprenticeship and trade union system dating back to the Middle Ages.
This museum has so much talent on display. We loved this more than any Chateau or Gallery. It's not a big place, but it's easy to get to, and really interesting. We don't speak enough French to have understood all the information, however we were given a free guide in English. Also some of the text has English translations. Don't miss the "Joiner's alphabet" (I forgot to take a photo), or the amazing statues made from sugar.
Gill K — Google review
Well worth a visit, the museum is full of very interesting things that have been made, I could have stayed there all day, the workmanship is outstanding and the only thing I would have liked to see was an English translation, I would have loved to have learned more.
Fiona T — Google review
Good museum. Little in English. Introdctory talk in French and difficult to understand
Martin — Google review
An interesting insight into the history of the 'guilds', and precursors to trade unions. Also some fascinating examples of the items prepared for admission into said guilds, and the prized 'cane' acquired. Beware, dont follow Google Maps for the entrance, it is now from Rue Nationale, down the stairs in front of St Julian's, and to the left. (Stairs beside the small building on the corner of Rue Colbert, with the hairdresser). It is also only accessible by a steel staircase. Another display there, but only until Nov '22, is on the rebuild of Notre Dame (all in French).
Cathy E — Google review
A lovely little museum, full of hand crafted items from tradesmen guilds.
Alison T — Google review
Very interesting to learn about this talented people! The museum is located close to the Rue National and it’s a great option for both kids and adults. I wish it would’ve been bigger, some sort of audiovisual guide would’ve been nice as well.
Violeta F — Google review
Beautiful museum with lots on display and friendly and helpful staff about the history of trades in France. Something totally new for me and interesting to see in its own unique place. Only about 2€ for students and free with the PCE!
Dory A — Google review
Beautiful museum that illustrates with great details the history of French artisanal Corporations, how they work and what they do. A must-see if you are in Tours, also not expensive at all.

Nature & Parks
Gardens
Nestled in the heart of Tours, the Jardin botanique de Tours has been enchanting visitors since its establishment in 1843. Spanning five hectares, this botanical haven is a delightful blend of nature and education. The garden features a stunning array of around 2,000 plant species, including a majestic 150-year-old ginkgo tree and vibrant tropical greenhouses that transport you to exotic locales.
Beautiful, big garden in the city, with a section for animals like emus, turkeys and even wallabies and a goat you can pet. There are different bits with Japanese gardens and medicinal gardens, and lots of different trees such as the 150 year old ginkgo tree! There is even a playground and swings. The greenhouse has many species of plants. Overall, a fantastic park.
David L — Google review
The botanical garden was delightful, featuring a diverse array of plants. Additionally, there were some animals, which added to the overall experience.
Khang L — Google review
Lovely park and gardens with cute animals. They seem unbothered by people and dogs. I was able to take my dogs in which is kind of rare for a nice park with gardens. Free entrance and not many people in.
M S — Google review
Lovely, peaceful, well maintained, huge variety of plants, lovely seating areas Play area for children. Animals seemed a bit superfluous.
Louise E — Google review
Very nice gardens. Lots to look at and animals as well as plants. Plenty of shady seating if you want to bring a picnic. There are toilets and drinkable water from fountains. It is free.
Paula L — Google review
This place is calm and relaxed, you can see some turtles, chickens and goats. In the Garden we have a botanical garden house, with three distinct spaces, such as a tropical forest and a savannah. You don't have to pay to enter, it's a pleasant walk.
Emelli R — Google review
It's quite a nice place to bring tour kids or just to chill out from the merciless sun of July. There are plenty of animals, many are domesticated animals so it's totally fun for kids to play and learn with it. The space is big enough for walks, strolls, and spacing out. Even found a wedding couple celebrating their big day in the garden last weekend. The entrance is free and the toilet is quite decent. Really helpful.
Arni S — Google review
Me and my kid love this place. Quiet, pleasant, with educational values and with a playground. And with animals and mini zoo. Unfortunately, pets (e.g. turtles) are closed quite early and at 18 you will not see them again. Minus one star for short opening hours.

Cloître de la Psalette

Cloître de la Psalette is a stunning 15th-century cloister located next to Saint Gatien's Cathedral. The impressive structure showcases a mix of architectural styles, including elaborate stonework and a beautiful Renaissance staircase. It is listed as one of the National Monuments in France and served as a scriptorium in the past. Visitors can explore the room where religious chanting was practiced and admire the intricate details of the cloisters.
Simply Amazing!
Eric T — Google review
Well worth the 4 euros to visit the cloisters. Do take the information leaflet and read it as you go round. There is some amazing architecture on show however it is rather bare in the upper rooms. Be aware it is not accessible by wheelchair or pushchair as you have to ascend a narrow spiral staircase.

(Translated by Google) Open Wednesday to Sunday from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. US$ 5.00 pp. This former cloister is open to visitors and is located within the grounds of the Cathédral St-Gatien. In the Middle Ages and Renaissance, La Psalette was a vocal music school attached to a church, where young people received a high level of musical and religious education. From the early Middle Ages (5th to 10th centuries), the cloister was the workplace of the canons of the Cathedral of Saint-Gatien. In the late medieval period, the chapter, also called the assembly of canons, experienced great cultural activity thanks to its manuscript copying workshop, the scriptorium, and its library, which was then one of the richest in France. Three galleries still exist today. At the corner of the north and east galleries, a magnificent spiral staircase gives access to the upper floor. It opens to the outside through large windows. Inside, a core leads the eye to the top of the screw, which ends in a coffered ceiling.

(Translated by Google) It is a very beautiful cloister and allows you to see one of the rose windows of the cathedral very close and well. There is also a super beautiful monumental spiral staircase. Currently there is also a photography exhibition. What I can't understand is that there are some chairs and ladies go sunbathe 😳 And €3.50 seems a little expensive to me simply to see this small space.

(Translated by Google) I agree with the other comments that point to the odious attitude of the blonde cashier at the ticket office. During my visit to the cloister, I unfortunately experienced a very shocking experience. As a European Union citizen under the age of 26, I was supposed to have free admission to the historic monument. However, when I simply asked if the visit was possible, the receptionist replied, "Yes, it's paid," without asking me any questions or informing me that young people are entitled to free admission. So I paid €4 in cash, thinking this was normal. When I returned to calmly report this error, not only did the cashier refuse any refund, despite the fact that it was a cash ticket and therefore easily refundable, but she also held me responsible. She implied that I should have known before paying (which is absurd in a cultural venue that's supposed to inform its visitors) and spoke to me in a curt and condescending tone, concluding that she would "escalate" the situation, as if I were at fault. A completely inappropriate reaction. When I pointed out to her that the situation wasn't normal, she stared at me for a long time in silence, with a cold and hostile stare, which I experienced as intimidation. She spoke of "dissatisfaction" with me, when she simply hadn't respected a legal obligation to provide free admission. I left with a deep sense of injustice and the impression of having been ripped off, which is unacceptable in a public cultural site. It's a shame, because the cloister is worth the visit, but such a welcome completely spoils the experience.

What a great find on a Tuesday morning! The best way to enjoy the Halles is to walk into it and take a whiff of every stand. Food is artfully highlighted. Beef, veal, poultry are respectfully displayed. Cheeses galore almost got me drunk just smelling them all! So now it's your turn to visit the halles in Tours and its surrounding..... Le Petit Patrimoine SARL is a charming restaurant in Vieux Tours, known for its traditional regional cuisine and warm atmosphere. The menu features generous dishes and local specialties, such as the beloved Rillons de Tours and St-Maure goat cheese. This cozy bistro offers an authentic dining experience with a focus on regional recipes. Despite its small size, it's a popular spot among locals and visitors seeking classic French flavors in a welcoming setting.
Must try! One of the best meals we had while we were in France. I had the roasted eggplant with tahini sauce and my husband had the pork loin on some creamy sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a small place so seating is limited.
M. D — Google review
Food was delicious and could not be faulted. The service on the other hand, could be. The gentleman with short black hair was extremely friendly. Unfortunately the blonde woman serving our table was obnoxious and couldn’t hide her dislike of foreigners in the slightest. When we spoke in broken French she said she did not serve foreigners. Very rude. Her colleague did serve us but it put us off from returning again the next night. I otherwise would have returned because the food was delicious.
Ayden F — Google review

Fantastic modern French. Brilliant
Craig F — Google review
Absolutely loved it here. They seem to have a strong focus on providing regional dishes and nothing else. The couple we were with were a little put out that they wouldn't make us Aperol Spritzes, but Kirs we had instead were delicious. We had the three-course set menu for €35 (plus a small supplement for foie gras) and everything was delicious. I'd recommend the salad with pork lardons and fried foie gras. This isn't the kind of place that will pander to their diners' whims but it's a great place to go for an authentic taste of Tours.

This was the best meal we ate in France. The coq au vin (chicken) and filet mignon (steak) were outrageously delicious. Highly recommend. It's a normal price for dinner time - about 15-20€ per person.

Located in the picturesque old town of Tours, La Deuvaliere is a charming restaurant offering refined seasonal dishes and a selection of local Loire Valley wines. Housed in a 17th-century building with tiled floors and beamed ceilings, this intimate venue exudes historical charm. The inventive menu showcases regional produce, with options like melting scallops with peanut apple and carrot cabbage puree or avocado tartare, fish fillet, and duck breast for lunch.
I visited during the off-season and found a seat available upon arrival. Despite the initial crowd and the wait for my meal, the food was excellent, and the prices were quite reasonable.

Traditional French cuisine served by an excellent staff. The staff were incredibly attentive and polite. The food was beyond compare. The restaurant is situated in old Tours and picturesque as well as comfortable.

Delicious food and a good selection of local wines. We walked in off the street and were lucky to get a table - I would recommend booking! Staff were attentive and very accommodating.

Lunch: The avocado tartare, fish fillet and duck breast are delicious. Reservations are recommended for lunch. There may be no seats available at the walk-in. Located in the old town. Dinner: Eat here again for the duck breast. Tonight's duck breast is perfect. It was the most delicious duck breast ever tasted, and the pumpkin puree also went well with it. Salmon as a starter is okay, but the salmon only has two small slices. Monkfish as a main course looks great (there are pictures to prove it) but the taste and texture are average. Pineapple Tart as dessert tastes so good and fresh. The bread that came with the dish was cold and hard, the worst I have ever had in recent times. I understand that it is difficult for a restaurant to maintain a high level of standard in every dish. Service has always been professional.

We were lucky enough to get the last available table at 7:30 on a Friday evening not having booked. Delicious meal (faux fillet & lotte) with a great Saumur Champigny veilles vignes to accompany.

A simply superb restaurant that serves truly unique and excellent haute cuisine plates. Everything is curated in the small details, everything is simply perfect! Menu changes over the year to take advantage of seasonal food. Service impeccable, atmosphere as curated as the food. Please be sure to book in advance, at least the day before!

Michelin quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. Dined here with my family. The service was great despite the restaurant being very full. The food was outstanding, there was not one thing that my entire family did not like. The tiramisu and ice cream were favorites. The cored cheese was an interesting novelty that had some very unique flavors.

Best.Japonais restaurant I've never tested with the real Japonais cookers and the servers who speaks Japonais as well. There is no low quality sushi, but a real Japonais cooking that the Japonais people eat everyday. Go and taste even if the middle rang price.

A dining experience far beyond my expectations! My wife and I recently dined at Les Bartavelles to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Everything, from the warm welcome and personal attention given by front of house hostess Veronique, to the clean and elegant yet modest dining room, to the well presented and creative menu, to the selection of delightful accompanying wines, to the food itself, was absolutely exquisite! When we initially made our reservation we thought it would be a one time thing to treat ourselves. However, I think it’s safe to say we’ll definitely be making a return visit! Thank you for giving us such a memorable experience we’ll never forget!

Absolutely outstanding! My parents and I dined here during our two weeks in France, and it was by far the restaurant we enjoyed the most. Everything — from the food to the atmosphere — was exceptional, and the evening created core memories for us. Living in Australia, I don’t often get to share such special moments with my family, so this experience meant a great deal. Truly grateful and can’t wait to return! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic service and delectable cuisine. I got to taste some unusual fish that was prepared beautifully!

Had a fabulous filet of sturgeon here. Best fish dish this far on our Loire vacation.
CY T — Google review
The food in general is quite good, but sadly our dining experience was extremely poor. We ordered the sturgeon fillet, which was cooked well but did not taste fresh and had a strong "fishy" smell. We informed the waitress but was told that the fish is "fresh". We chose to send the barely eaten dish back, but was regardless fully charged for it. We did not mind being charged but were left extremely disappointed as there was no effort to remedy the dish nor were we given any apology or explanation for the bad dish. In the end, the food was not worth the poor treatment we received.
Tyler S — Google review
Had my first good French restaurant experience there. For main course I had a little chick with delicious white sauce that complemented the dish with just the right amount of cream and saltyness. It was presented by the chef himself, and even though I don’t understand French, you could tell that he had put his heart and soul into it. The dessert was chocolate fondant with red currant sorbet. It absolutely melted together both in flavor and in texture. Overall just everything hit the right note and formed together an amazing experience.

Had a very French dinner here together with colleagues, highly recommended by local, amazing food with big potion, my salad was exceptional Asian infusion style, main course l’agnean en deux facon was tender and the delicious in both way, desert was inspired by a famous French game I can barely finish all, the staff were very friendly always with a smell at face and introduced the menu in English patiently
Hall Z — Google review
We came here for dinner on our visit to Tours. Firstly, the staff were very friendly and accommodating to our young baby. I speak a little French, but the waitress was very patient with me. Of the starters, you have to try the egg, asparagus and focaccia, it was just beautiful!!! The salmon tartar was ok, but nothing amazing. The coriander seeds and fennel overpower the salmon, which lacked a bit of flavour. For the main course we both had the Octopus, which was just fantastic! I would definitely recommend this, and it was the highlight of the dinner. The octopus was very cooked well. For desert my wife got the chocolate ball (Pétanque), which was very light and hit the spot! Not too heavy, just perfect. I got the lemon curd desert, but I have to say the chef was trying too hard with this. There was far too much going on. There was a cream, then a lemon curd, more cream, a meringue on top, with white chocolate, a sorbet and meringue pieces. It’s just too much, and way too sweet. I would suggest not trying to have too many elements, and simplifying it, because the lemon curd was delicious I have knocked a star off because the salmon was a bit bland and the lemon desert was too sweet for my liking. But overall this was a nice restaurant and a tasty meal

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Staff were kind, attentif and helpful. There was a “stagiaire” who looked after us tonight, and he was wonderful. If you read my review - thank you! The menu was incredible, and I wish I could have ordered everything. While they do not offer a menu deal, the food is very good value for price and fair for the quality. I would come back here again and again, and recommend it highly to any curious foodies in the region. They were also very accommodating to a gluten allergy.

The menu features beloved classics like steak and tartare, all served in a cozy setting adorned with vintage decor and eclectic finds. This delightful eatery exudes warmth and authenticity, reminiscent of mountain chalets, making it the perfect spot for those seeking both comfort and culinary excellence.
This is a small family own restaurant The food is delicious. The service great they had the menu in English. The girls speak English. They were helpful, informative, and very professional. I had the sea bass which was excellent with some vegetables first I had the hot cheese with walnuts and maple syrup, which was just too good we also had the polenta good and the pork chop, which was good a little tough but good they came with potatoes those creamy potatoes that make you say oh my God too many calories, but you eat them anyway, I also had the chocolate cake with ice cream. The chocolate cake was not as good as I had hoped because it has that melted chocolate in the center and that’s not something I really like, but I did have some of it. it was a nice dining experience in France, I can’t really get that kind in the states. This kind of home cooking creative food. That only the French really know how to make if you’re in the area make sure you make reservations

Friendly, bilingual and attentive staff, and an amazing quality food!. The place to go if you're looking for a more casual but exquisite french restaurant experience.
Carlos R — Google review
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to bite directly into the concept of regret, may I suggest the lamb chops at Les Canailles? They arrived at the table looking suspiciously lively — like they might still be plotting their escape. I like my lamb pink, not bleating. These weren’t rare — they were practically reincarnated. I half expected them to start chewing me back. Imagine a culinary thriller where the lamb wins. That’s what this was. Texture? Think jelly with ambition. Flavor? Somewhere between “vague iron” and “fridge panic.” Honestly, I’ve had better luck gnawing on IKEA furniture. In short, if you’re on a raw food diet and hate yourself, this is your dream meal. Otherwise, run. Fast. Cooked.
Raphael V — Google review
We went to this restaurant anticipating a great experience given the reviews we had read. Unfortunately we didnt read enough reviews as our disappointing experience was echoed by other reviewers upon closer inspection. Our appetizers (the mackerel) arrived quickly but it seemed like the fish was barely cooked. The main course didnt arrive quickly. It was clear after 40 minutes of waiting for our main course that they had lost our order, given that tables around us were being served when they had arrived after us. When I raised the issue they responded that the food was only minutes away. One of the two meals that finally arrived (the steak) was ice cold - like it had been precooked and not warmed up. We sent it back and it arrived back heated up but the rest of the food on the plate was still ice cold. there was no apology from the server and when we pointed out the issue the waitress was dismissive. We have found other reviews that point out the same behaviour. It seems like they are unwilling to take accountability when they make a mistake and the customer suffers. Hopefully if you dine there they wont make a mistake.

We enjoyed a 3 course formule for lunch. Service was warm and friendly, and the venue was entertaining for people watching along the busy street. The food was very good and looked like art!
Lisa W — Google review
The lamb chops were extremely disappointing. Despite the €7 supplement, the dish was almost entirely fat, with barely any edible meat. The texture was greasy and unpleasant, difficult to cut, impossible to enjoy. We raised the issue with the staff, but nothing was done. No apology, no solution, just a shrug. For the price and the quality, this was unacceptable. I’ve had more satisfying meals at airport vending machines, and at least those don’t pretend to be gourmet.

We are vegetarians, so we don’t eat meat or fish. The official menu didn’t have any vegetarian options, but I had read good things about this restaurant, so we asked if they were willing and able to accommodate us. Nestled in the charming village of Chenehutte-Les-Tuffeaux in the Loire Valley, La Roche Le Roy is a must-visit for an exceptional culinary journey. Housed in an elegant 18th-century manor with picturesque views of the river Loire, this restaurant offers a romantic ambiance. Chef Maximilien Bridier and his talented team present a modern twist on traditional French cuisine using locally sourced ingredients to create an unforgettable dining experience.
I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of La Roche Le Roy in Tours. Located south of tour in a mini-castle/mansion, you will be welcomed with very good food and very generous amuse-bouches and pre-desert. Thanks to menu offering, the price is not steep in regard of the quality. A very good option if your are residing in Tours Sud/South.

The best meal of our stay in France and one of the best meals I have ever eaten. We had the tasting menu which was primarily a selection of exquisitely prepared raw and cold seafood and fish. This was perfect because it was scorchingly hot in the Loire. The crudo was, by far, the most delicious I have ever eaten. Many courses were finished with exquisite flowers, all edible. My husband who does not give compliments lightly said the meal was spectacular and I agree. Do not let the rather unappealing location off a main road deter you. Once there, the magic begins.
Alexandra D — Google review
What a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly informative and slightly more relaxed than your usually haute cuisine. The food was excellent for a smaller city and beautiful beautifully presented. One of the best restaurants in Tours!
Eleanor G — Google review
This restaurant was recommended to us and what a great recommendation it was! The situation is in what appears to be in a small Chateau which has been tastefully refurbished, there are no garish ornaments to make up for any short-comings in the food that one sees in so many establishments these days. The welcome was warm and friendly even for two rosbifs who mangled their language. The menu was not over complicated and the wine list very comprehensive, with great options for any taste or wallet. The food arrived promptly and what a delight it was; the chef has a touch of genius in being able to create dishes that were both subtle and surprising at the same time to the extent that one had to savour every mouthful to marvel on the flavours and the inspired combinations. Do not misunderstand me, this is not a shocking Heston Blumenthal experience, the combination of flavours was enchanting but never challenging. We will remember our visit to La Roche Le Roy as one of our best dining experiences ever and that is no mean feat.

Sharon H — Google review
I have mixed feelings about this place. Most dishes were great but none of them were truly unique and remarkable. I have no doubt about the quality of each ingredient and the chef’s talent but I must stay 85€ per person feels a bit too much when we leave the place without the very feeling of “this or that dish was incredible”. We still had a good time though, service was both very welcoming and professional. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice.
Meli Y — Google review
Our group booked this wonderful jewel in Tours thanks to our amazing tour director. The menu was sublime in every aspect and the service was impeccable, attentive, timely, and truly enhanced the experience to another level. The chef's execution of everything from the welcome morsel, to the amuse bouche, to the lobster entreé, and the fish and soufflé was flawless. Flavors were truly complimentary and the wine pairings elevated each course as well. I wish I could return more often, but I will always have the unforgettable memories.

When I walked into this cozy little place with the vintage vinyl on the wall, I thought yes, I made the right decision. But the experience went a bit down hill with the rushed service. For lunch service there was only a waitress who bearly speaks any English and a waiter who was constantly running around. We managed to get our order in with rushed explanation of the food and wine. And the starter arrived before any wine appeared. The veal head was amazing hence the 2 stars I gave. But my main course of fish fillet was raw in the middle. Apparently this is how the chef preferred, which was not mentioned. It was taken back to recook which resulted in very over cooked fish and vegetable and i just couldn't eat it. For a restaurant that has such good reputation and clear potential to be great, I was disappointed mostly due to the service. I was clearly an unsatisfied customer left half hungry, but nothing was offered apart from keep trying to justify what the chef did. Clearly the management didn't care about my custom as they know I won't be back probably. But I feel i should warn other English speaking only potential client to be careful what you order. Take time to understand how it was cooked and not be rushed.

Tours Val de Loire Airport

Airport
Tours Val de Loire Airport, located just 45 minutes from Gare du Tours railway station, is a convenient gateway to the charming city of Tours and the picturesque Chateaux of the Loire. Despite its small size, the airport offers practical access to the Loire Valley and Brittany region. While amenities are basic, with only one restaurant before security and limited seating at the gate area, friendly staff and efficient operations make for a pleasant travel experience.
Very small, very few facilities. But parking is free in front of the terminal. Check in, loading etc was ok for my recent flight to Porto with Ryanair which was very cheap too. Price and convenience for me is the best.

They know they need to add more seating. 30 people with children roaming the waiting area and no chairs to sit. Also many Sexisme posters accusing woman on bringing Fake luxury fashion items as if men doesnt buy fake. On arrival a very outdated poster says "a real lady doesnt buy fake" and the penalty is up to €1000. Dont they know that most of fake luxury item wholeseller are actually men?

Second flight from this airport and just the same as the last one in August. Nice little restaurant/cafe area before check in, However, the staff obviously hate their job people or both. Window frames full of cobwebs, all the way around, not a good sign and spoils the overall look. Decent manager I'd needed for improvement.

Tours Airport (TUF) is very small but extremely practicable to access the Loire Valley or Brittany region. Amenities are very basic, there is one restaurant (before security check) and a few vending machines. There is no coffee or restaurants after security or paper control. Due to its size, you can afford to arrive 1h before your flight take-off. Upon arrival, you will easily be out of the airport 15-20 minutes after landing. Car rentals (Europcar and Avis) are present on-site. Taxi services seem to be only upon request, so make sure to pre-book if you need one. No train connects the city centre to the airport. Don't expect great luxury. This is a small regional airport, but it's still much better than having to fly to Paris and drive or take the train for long hours.
Thibaut B — Google review
Very small airport with hardly any facilities. Restaurant was closed in peak summer months. Had 3 vending machines after security but the cold drinks machine was broken. Useful to get to stanstead

The tiny departure shed has enough seating for about 1/3 of a plane's capacity. Don't go through until the last moment!
Jaimie S — Google review
Not enough seating at all. The food wasn’t great. Overall not the best experience.
Chloé C — Google review
Really small airport, with only two gates. Since we got very long cues in the Ryanair desks at Stansted for the visa check, we thought it would be smart to go early. We couldn't find the opening hours anywhere and decided to go at 6h30 for our 9h30 flight (the usual three hours early for international flights). Not only was the airport closed but even when they opened the front door, it took another half hour for functioning hours. There aren't any water fountain in the whole airport, only pricey vending machines and a small bar/restaurant that wasn't even open at this time. I'm adding a photo with the schedule (may/2023) hope it helps anyone else not to stand in the cold for too long. Next time I'll be taking an afternoon flight or much rather take a train out of Tours.

Adding a bar in departure lounge also a great improvement and bring allowed to sit outside whilst waiting watching the sunset with a glass of wine was blissful, despite Ryanair flight being delayed as usual

I got to the airport quite early only to find the place all locked up and closed! Not a soul was to be found anywhere! But Ryanair were definitely flying here and then flying back! I think the airport should at least have some information about when they open. Other than that, it was a decent experience going through this small provincial airport. Don't expect any frills though. No food or drink places, but they do have machines everywhere for snacks and drinks. UPDATE: Thanks for the response but your information is either incorrect or at least misleading. I asked about the opening times of the airport, not the reception. Your website does not specify any time of opening of the airport. When I arrived on a Sunday afternoon, the airport was completely locked up. I did call the reception telephone number as specified on your website, but guess what?! You are closed on a Sunday! So your information is not very helpful! What does a passenger do when they arrive on a Sunday afternoon and all the doors to the airport are locked and there is nobody around to speak to?? And your customer reception telephone number is closed! That's what the problem is!

Arrival at the airport one of the slickest I have experienced. However exiting the airport took half an hour and we inconvenienced many other as we had no idea that the parking ticket needed to be paid before driving out of the car park. Another person has the same experience even though he had paid for parking. Had we missed notices explaining procedure?
