Keflavík International Airport

Airport
Keflavík International Airport is Iceland's main airport, but it maintains a clear and well-organized structure with manageable walking distances for passengers. The airport offers a good selection of shops and friendly staff. While some travelers feel that more seating would be beneficial, others appreciate the overall calm atmosphere and efficient service. Despite its small size, navigating the airport is straightforward, making it easy to find baggage claim and exit points.
Arriving and departing from Keflavík Airport was really smooth. Everything was fast and well-organized, from check-in to security. Staff were helpful and the facilities were clean. Overall, a very hassle-free experience. Definitely an excellent airport!
Aatish B — Google review
Arriving at KEF was a breeze. Went through customs quicker than expected and this small airport was easy to navigate. Departing is another story. Again, getting through security and checking in went better than expected. The only complaint I have is by the gates. There are no seats and the gates are so close together. It is mass chaos. However, I do have a travel hack for you. If you are by the gates in the 30s, there is a diner type place to eat. Go to the seating up by the counter to the right. You’ll see that there is a booth in the back and nothing behind it. In the back of that lone booth is a hidden two-level platform that was the perfect spot to sit with your bags and be near to the gates. Otherwise, you’re subjected to sitting on the floor or the kids playground.
Frank R — Google review
The airport is not that big and it’s quite clean. The toilets are also clean and they even have small light at the handle if it’s free or occupied. We arrive early evening so it was quiet for international airport. There are several sitting areas forward visitors which comfort enough just for short moment. But they are really big lacked of seating area for departure passengers which can be improved in the futures.
KN I — Google review
Had a very quick layover here traveling to Copenhagen. I was able to quickly find a souvenir, drink, and use the toilet before departing. Passport control was also pretty quick with a lot of lines to speed up the process.
Alex B — Google review
Due to the heavy snowfall, the airport/airline arranged affected passengers to different hotels. There were 2 queues for solo travellers and couples/families. But the airport staffs could not be sure on their process and nobody is sure where to queue. We were informed by the airport staff that the couple/families queue is only for a specific airline, we have to go another queue when we were already queuing for 30 min. We spoke to the staff subsequently and she was confused herself. Everyone has no idea where they were going until we reach the destination. We were allocated to a hotel 90km away from the airport. The bus is full of passengers departing at different time. We were informed that there will be 3 buses to fetch us back to the airport (7am, 11am and 3pm). However, at 4am, the hotel receptionist knocked on our door and informed us there is only 1 bus coming and it’s coming soon. Nobody know how soon is soon, we are unable to do any planning. When the bus arrived, it could only onboard less than 10 passengers as the bus came with other passengers. I understand the delayed/cancelled flights are not within the airport/airline control but I am sure there is a better planning to all these. Witnessed quite a number of airport/airline staffs standing around the airport not doing anything to manage the crowd, they were literally just gathering and chit chatting which is quite unprofessional in my opinion. Status as of now: we are still at the hotel located 90km away and we don’t know what time is the next bus coming.

Visiting Reykjavík in winter is a magical experience. The city may be small, but it’s full of charm, with colorful houses, cozy cafés, and friendly people. The snow-covered streets and twinkling lights create a warm and festive atmosphere, even though the days are short. It’s also the perfect season to enjoy Iceland’s natural wonders, like the Northern Lights, frozen waterfalls, and nearby hot springs. Despite the cold, Reykjavík feels welcoming and peaceful
SG — Google review
Airport is 45 minutes from Reykjavík. Easy to navigate if driving, signs (font) is small in English language. If traveling international, you must wait in a customs line to proceed to your gate after security check point. If you have lounge access, don’t wait until plane boarding time to proceed to the gate, the walk may be up to 15 minutes. Lacks seating at gate areas. Be prepared to walk around to rest your weary bones.
June W — Google review
I really wanted to give this place a good review. And overall it is a pretty solid airport. But I feel like even after 3 expansions in the last few years this airport is still too small for how many passengers it now has due to the boom in the tourism industry for Iceland. I believe this airport needs further expansion and it needs to get bigger. Also, there's a lot of checkpoints for international flights which is bit of a nuisance for season travelers as other major airports have one major security point and then you are good to go.

Giantess Cave is a quirky attraction located just five minutes from Keflavik Airport. It's home to a friendly giantess with a loving heart, and visitors can explore the cave and take photos with the giantess sculpture. The cave features various elements from Icelandic children's stories, including a full-size giantess, Giganta. The site offers an unusual and free opportunity for families and curious travelers to immerse themselves in local folklore while waiting for their flights.
A nice, small stop to see, with no wait or admission fee.

This is a fun, child-friendly attraction at the north end of the promenade in Keflavik. Basically, you find a playful cave which a huge chair in front. Inside there is a bed, shoes and toothbrush fit for a giantess, which is also inside the cave house. Opening times seem to be 10am to 5pm daily unless weather is bad. Entry is free.
Brad — Google review
A fun 10 minute diversion. Based on a children's book, the giantess sleeps in her cave. You can hear her snoring.
Bill B — Google review
Little kids would love it! Fun place to visit in the KEF airport area as a quick 10 min stop .
Leah D — Google review
A very whimsical art display that presents Gigantica the giantess. She collects pacifiers from parents of children who don't need them anymore. loved the pacifier tree.
Laura J — Google review
Fantastic display. Well worth the visit. Kids would love it. Surprised to find out it was free entry and no charge for parking.
Andrea A — Google review
I'd hate for this to become a big tourist attraction.. but... its awesome. The story behind this place is great. And if you wait long enough you'll hear her make a different sound other than snoring... unless you're a prude... you'll laugh out loud. My video won't show that secret. You'll have to visit teehee

We had some time to kill after landing at the airport and before heading to the Blue Lagoon, so we were looking for things to do. This was one thing that sounded interesting, so we stopped by. It was so cute, and so funny. Kids would love it!

Paddy's Irish Pub is a hidden gem in Reykjanesbaer, offering a great selection of drinks and a welcoming atmosphere. The bar features big screens for sports enthusiasts and has happy hour from 18:00 to 21:00 daily, making it an affordable option compared to other places in Iceland. American here. I went here alone and hung out till close. Bartender spoke the worst English of anyone I met in Iceland and I still had a great conversation with him. He let me smoke a few cigs inside and we watched a volcano erupt on the big TV. I watched people come and go, but I felt no need to find a different “cooler” bar because this place was the perfect dive. Bartender wouldn’t let me drink Danish beer, and just kept refilling my glass and handing me the payment reader. Apparently they filmed some of the “Alaskan” True Detective here and he told me all about it which was cool. I wish I could come back every weekend.

Restaurant
Diner
Olsen Olsen is one of the most often mentioned places in Reykjanes Peninsula for its delicious food. The peninsula offers a variety of dining options, from fast food diners to high-quality restaurants, each with its own unique taste. Located in the southwestern corner of Iceland, this area has some of the best cheap eats and breakfast restaurants, including Olsen Olsen.
We had the chance of getting burger and they were amazing, with french and curly fries really nice and crunchy. The size of the meal (burger & fries) are more than enough for fill you up and leave with a smile. The atmosphere is nice (American/rock 'n roll vibes) and the relatively small personelle worked really hard to serve us the food quickly despite the restaurant being full. Definitely recommended.
Andrea M — Google review
A decent place for a burger and fries. Both our burgers were cooked to pink, and the fries were super crispy and delicious. Price point isn't bad for what you get. Id definitely recommend the stop if you want a good sit-down burger that won't break the bank.
Kayla — Google review
This restaurant offers a selection of unique fast food in a dinner atmosphere. We had burgers and fries which were excellent with two ice cold Applesin's. It's near the airport and Happy Campers. For what it's worth we'd go again.
Marissa S — Google review
If you’re looking for a sit-down meal close to the airport—Olsen Olsen is a decent option. The inside is reminiscent of a US diner with license plates and American artifacts adorning the walls. There is a small parking lot on the side and you order at the counter. Service was good, but not great. There weren’t many staff and the ones that I did see were hiding in the kitchen on their cell phones. I got the fish and chips, which was good, but not great compared to the other places that I had it. Fries were very good and it also came with a salad. Presentation was nice and if you are in a pinch for a quick meal before the airport, this place is a suitable option.

Had to spend the night in Reykjavik due to missed flight. Wife n I had burgers and fries. The burgers were Fabulous. Service was, order at counter' then it was brought to your table. Atmosphere was comfortable. Recommend!!
Sue D — Google review
The chicken nuggets were a bit weird. The fries were normal fast food fries (VERY large portion). Sweet chili sauce was yummy. Would taste better drunk.
Korbin W — Google review
Original American burger type restaurant. The vibe is exactly what you would expect. My girlfriend eats gluten free and they tried to make something for her as well. The food was good and the people were friendly!
Jeremy K — Google review
Delicious burgers with generous portions! The prices are fair, and the service is friendly. We tried several burgers, and they were all packed with toppings. The only small downside is that they could have been a bit hotter. Still, a great spot overall.

The Icelandic Museum of Rock 'n' Roll in Keflavik is a unique and captivating destination for rock music enthusiasts. The museum offers interactive exhibits that showcase the rich history of pop and rock music in Iceland. Visitors can explore various displays, including album covers, musical instruments like electric guitars and drums, as well as interactive experiences such as choosing records on turntables. Additionally, the museum features a cinema where visitors can enjoy music-related videos.
Really nice museum specifically for Icelandic rock n roll bands over the years. This museum has quite a few interactive features, such as presentations through vinyls, electronic drum set, and electric guitar.

I was here 9 years ago, and not willingly but because our flight got delayed for 12 hours and the airline brought the whole plane here. Safe to say if was a weird experience but I I enjoyed the museum…except for maybe sleeping on the floor with 50 other people… Anyway I write this review as something to laugh at but if you’re interested in music and rock, especially the genre from Icelandic origin this place is for you.

If you didn't know that Iceland had a rock and roll history, enough for a museum anyway, as I did not, they obviously do. It was an educational experience with interesting displays of history, art and memorabilia.

Visited 2 years ago: Very well done museum! Love the album covers, play instrument area like the electric guitar, drums and keyboards, the different interactive exhibits like choosing your record on the turntable and getting a visual education on the chosen record. There was also the cinema playing a video as well. It's very well curated and the facility is pretty amazing! They also have other rooms/halls that service for music school and concert/multifunctional hall.

Viking World, also known as Vikingaheimar, is a museum dedicated to the history and culture of the Vikings who settled in Iceland. The star attraction is a replica of a 9th-century Viking ship that visitors can climb aboard. The museum features exhibitions showcasing real Viking objects, along with outdoor exhibits that are popular with children. Additionally, there's a cafe serving local-inspired dishes during the summer months.
I wish I could give 10 ⭐. This was such a cool experience. It was very interactive with Viking garb to try on (including what appear to be historically accurate helmets!). Walking onto and about the longship was like stepping back into time. The exhibits with replicas and artifacts were engaging--even and to our 11 year old. Finding this was a great surprise.
Ashley H — Google review
I liked that it was close to the airport, yet has enough to see to kill a few hours. I almost read everything, I also liked that you are allowed to step foot in the boat that crossed the ocean for the 1000 year anniversary. I would have loved to read some more, but my son was antsy. We did, however, play some chess downstairs.
Almut G — Google review
Small reasonable priced museum near the airports. Tickets are discounted if bought online. The museum focuses on the viking era of exhibition and settlements. Its more reading than artifacts, but I enjoy viking history. I took my time and spent about 1-1.5 hours. Gift shop has neat souvenirs. Free parking. Water closes inside.
Toni S — Google review
We had some time in Keflavík before checking into our hotel so we decided to check this museum out. So glad that we did as we really enjoyed it. Don’t let the outside of the building deceive you. It looks small on the outside but it is packed full of exhibits in different halls so there is a ton to see and learn about Viking culture. The replica of the Viking ship was really cool and you were able to walk on it as well. Staff were excellent and friendly. Well worth checking out if you are in the area.
Barbara T — Google review
Very informative museum on the entire Viking history...will take several hours to really read, see and experience the place in its entirety. The ship that sailed from Iceland to Canada in 2000 for the millennial celebration of Leif Erikson's crossing. Unsure if you're concerned about price, but fairly pricey admission tickets if you just come on your own. I did not have time to tour the grounds.
Cliff T — Google review
Saw some Innuit magical creatures carvings that I never saw in any of the other museums so that was really cool. There's also a large viking boat that you can board (it's a recreation, but really good one). There's also chainmai and helmets you can put on to take photos, they're quite heavy
Krippled S — Google review
A very good museum with a Viking replica boat from the 9th century, which one time did cross the ocean up to New York. There's a lot of explained history.

Oriento is a family-owned restaurant located in downtown Keflavik, established in August 2019 by Mohamad Chikh and Natalia Bujorean along with their children, Memo and Nahla. The family initially resided in Innri Njardhvik before moving to Asbru and finally settling in Keflavik. Visitors have praised the restaurant for its delicious kebab meals and friendly staff who are accommodating with customizing orders.
I think the picture is enough to express my feelings for this place! The food is amazing the place is clean and the staff super friendly and gives a family vibe. They stay loyal to the traditions behind the food and bring you a taste of middle east and Mediterranean! Definitely recommend for quick meal as the preparation doesn’t take more than 10-15 minutes for 3-4 people. Keep up the good work 👌

Solemnly quiet during lunch hour. Food was good a bit pricey for the amount of meat on the plate. Next time would rather order their gyro wrap instead of the meal.
Juan M — Google review
Hmmm I’m not sure about this one, ok the chicken gyro was crispy and nice but overall it’s billions of miles away from traditional Turkish kebab eatery and cuisine. The bread was strange, the cous cous was adequately tomato-ed but under seasoned. We’re in Iceland so maybe that’s ok. But you have the best lamb being Iceland, best in the world possible and the lamb here was only so-so. It’s also pricey. I think you can find better places in town.

Great food at very fair prices compared to other restaurants. Excellent service. A must try if you’re in Keflavík. Highly recommended.

After our flight and adventuring, we were too exhausted to take any pictures, but I definitely enjoyed this place. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was great in my opinion. They have a QR code on the wall for their menu, and you place your order at the counter. You can also seat yourself. The space is a little small and there aren’t any fancy decorations. That didn’t bother me at all, but I know some people take note of those things—so if you’re looking for something super fancy, this isn’t the place. I’m glad we made the visit, and I would definitely return. Thanks for the excellent service, Oriento!

LiBRARY bistro/bar is a charming establishment located in Hafnargata 19, Keflavik, Reykjanesbaer. It shares the building with the Reykjanesbaer town hall and offers a delightful atmosphere and delicious food. The interior design creates a cozy library ambiance that adds to the overall experience. The service is exceptional, with friendly and interactive staff members who enhance the dining experience.
Hip restaurant/bar with good food, nice staff and interesting atmosphere. The service was a little slow but staff were responsive when signaled. I think they prefer a more layed-back environment. Waiter asked if wanted to have some time between appetizers and main course. I appreciated that. The appetizers are very good. We got the Atlantic char and burger. Neither disappointed. Would definitely recommend.

This is the feature restaurant on the lobby floor of the Park Inn by Radisson in Keflavik. They have a beautifully decorated indoor seating area with lots of space and serve up a menu of Icelandic and western dishes along with a range of beer, wine and cocktails. Opening hours are 11.30am to 11pm daily. We recently had a late lunch here that was very good. Burger was nicely grilled, topped with fresh ingredients and tasted just fine. The Artic Char was very nicely prepared in the kitchen, grilled to perfection and topped with a nice assortment of ingredients. This was a great dish, one that we'd gladly reorder again. Service was very friendly and timely during our meal. Prices what you expect of a nice hotel restaurant.

The atmosphere was great. There was a live band there. It was fine for is to wait a table for an hour because we were walk-in. But we also needed to wait another half hour for the food. The food was fine, but the fish and chips were too salty.

This is one of the worst meals I've ever had in my LIFE! We got the Korean chicken. It wasn't even properly fried and I got cold chicken thighs which isn't the right texture, the service was terrible all around. We thought we would try the Creme Brulee for our last night in Iceland and it was SO BAD that I sent it back and the staff was demanding answers on why we refused to eat it before they would wipe it off the ticket. I thought Hotel Restaurants served good food? This was absolutely MISERABLE.

We chose the fish of the day. Just before service we were told the selection had changed from attic char to cod. The cod didn’t disappoint. Large portions and super fresh. Delicious! And the service was friendly and attentive.

Interesting menu with vegetarian and vegan options. I opted for the beetroot and bean burger and Yuzu aioli, salad, celeriac and apple “coleslaw“ and french fries. The fries were crisp and salty. The bean burger held together nicely which is miraculous if you are used to eating vegetarian bean burgers. It had good flavor and texture, being it was crisp on the outside. The drink was supposed to be a strawberry mojito but it just had the caps of strawberries, no fruit.

Went for some food. Service was good. Very helpful. Menu selection was limited - but enough which is good because I find too much choice can oftern mean reduction in quality. Food was great. Loved starters and mains. Would go again. Would be nice to have the odd traditional Icelandic meal as a special and labelled accordingly. Nicely placed with nice view.

This is a cute little hotel with water views. Each room seemed decorated differently. It was clean with all the essentials. Staff was helpful and friendly. We didn't really need anything from staff after check in so that's why only 4 stars we didn't have a lot if interaction. There is a restaurant on site, but we didn't eat there.

Been here two years ago. My fiancée ate chicken, she said it was good. I ate lamb - one of the best lamb I had in Iceland. They offer more Icelandic dishes, which you should "experience" while being in Iceland. + Food was great, location and interior is matched, staff was reaallyy friendly. - The restaurant is a little pricey, the portions could be bigger for the money. Other than that - great place.

Stopped in for a cocktail and to look at the menu. We stayed for dinner! There were four of us, Americans all. The ladies ordered the Icelandic lobster & shrimp pasta as well as the grilled lamb chops w/a baked potatoes. Delicious! The guys both had cheeseburgers with fries. Totally happy.

Beautiful place. The restaurant is amazing with a local feel and great local food. With a view of a beautiful Harbor and a Giants cave. Absolutely loved it. The prices are good and worth every bit of the taste.

Great view over the harbor and ocean. Quiet. Note that there is no staff. This is an auto hotel. The attached restaurant was really good.

Was the worst place I've ever stayed on a vacation? Nobody was at the front desk. Room was dirty. Things were broken and rotten. Like the small table outside the window would not shut. It was broken. The bathroom cabinet was being held up by a small garbage. The fan in the bathroom on the ceiling was falling out and had fallen out prior? The walls were dirty in the bathroom with soap scum. It was disgusting!!!

I tried whale for the first time in my life. I loved it! The food is pretty good and the service is friendly. Maybe a little overpriced for the place but I enjoyed it and would come back :) We didn’t stay in the hotel. We only used the restaurant

Bakery
Kökulist Bakery is a beloved local spot in Keflavik, offering a variety of freshly baked goods, gourmet sandwiches, and sweet treats. The bakery has been a long-standing institution in the area and is known for its delicious offerings. Visitors can enjoy an array of bakery items, sandwiches, local breads, and beverages. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the pastries and coffee options available.
I’d go back as a must stop. Close to airport. Good variety of donuts and pastries. Cookies are also soft, chewy, and taste great. Great flavor and texture. Wish they carried cold teas. Worth a quick stop.
TravelR — Google review
We were on our way to the airport to fly home and were looking for a bakery to get a coffee and a snack. This one popped up on Google maps. We stopped in and picked a few of the freshly made desserts and coffee. We took them to go and ended up at the lighthouse to have the snacks. They were fantastic! Freshlyade, still warm, and very good. The lady that serves us did a good job of giving us the overview of the selections. If we come back, will definitely hit this spot.

We wanted to have breakfast outside our hotel buffet and found this bakery. Sandwiches are tasty, and the variety of sweet stuff looks great. Kind staff. Cozy tables. One thing I was disappointed was the taste of coffee. Actually, there was no scent of coffee I could feel. They just used a cheap auto machine.

Our first stop as soon as we picked up our rental car. Delicious gluten free options. And the latte was superb. The other baked goods and sandwiches as a bread looked amazing. Fast, friendly service! ❤️

Our first and last stop in Iceland. Coffee is divine; baked goods are delightful. They're used to tourists there and are patient when you're dealing with foreign coins and happy to explain all the unique treats they have. You can sit inside or out. It's warm and delicious inside.

We tried two different items, both tasted good. They didn’t have butter croissants available when we visited. The coffee was good too.

Big vegan cinnamon buns with chocolate and caramel flavours. They have a list on the wall of what is vegan. There were a few other things there as well that were vegan. They are pretty good but definitely get a little sticky. They were around ~500/$5-6CDN. Some parking outside of the building.

Restaurant
Polskur Matur is a highly recommended restaurant in Keflavik, offering exceptional food at good prices for Iceland. The menu features excellent dishes like the 'Cowboy' Schnitzel and pork chop, known for their generous portions and delicious flavors. Despite language barriers, the friendly staff provides helpful recommendations on typical Polish dishes. Visitors appreciate the comforting, home-cooked style of the meals and find it to be a great value for money.
I don’t know why there are any bad reviews on this place…my husband and I ordered an XL cowboy schnitzel to share and this was only my portion (see photo)! So impressed. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The place is cozy and great vibes. And free WiFi to top it off! Perfect!
Sheryl K — Google review
Probably the only place in Reykjanesbaer where you can eat Polish dinners. The restaurant is quite pleasant, the service is nice. The quality of the food does not knock you out, although it is good and the portions are large. Unfortunately, the prices are a bit of a deterrent, and the menu is rather fixed. There is a lack of new meals, even one different each day. The place is worth a visit, though definitely not every day.
Ss S — Google review
Last stop on the way to the airport, and it was a great decision. We got the meatloaf and cowboy schnitzel. Food was delicious. The heaping portions made us sad we couldn't take the rest with us to enjoy later.

Spectacular meal! If you are in Keflavik or nearby, I highly recommend Polskur Matur! It was a great little restaurant with exceptional food at good prices for Iceland. You have to try the pork chop- it's probably the best meal I've had in over 3 weeks! None of us left hungry, and all were super happy about the food

Excellent 'Cowboy' Schnitzel. Comes with either chips or mash. The portions are large. I had a large but they do XL as well. There is a reason there is hype around this place. Its excellent. The prices are very good as well for iceland. I strongly recommend. We didn't eat out much in Iceland due to the costs but when we did we went to nice places...the Polskur Matur was easily the best for taste and value. Looking forward to my next visit.

State liquor store
When exploring Iceland, especially if you're heading towards smaller towns or remote areas, make sure to stop by Vínbúðin. This government-owned chain is the sole provider of alcohol in the country and can be found in larger towns like Grindavík. Here, you’ll discover a fantastic selection of beverages including local beers that are hard to find elsewhere. You can even mix and match singles to create your own six-pack!
Very nice store with a lot of choices.
Maria A — Google review
The only liquor store in Reykjanesbaer and the only chain that offers alcohol in Iceland. The stores are open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Good location in the center, right next to the so-called big Netto. Free parking in the shopping center area. The downside is the horrendous prices! On the other hand, the big plus is very friendly service, which is not so common in Iceland.

The welcome at the cultural center and the heritage museum is as warm as I found it everywhere in keflavik. Well I'm not a fan of abstract art, the heritage museum has a mind-blowing and very original collection of items including thousands of ballpoint pens, boxes of matches and pocket lighters, ending incredible 1170 hand carved fishing vessel replicas. If only for this latter part, do not miss the third floor in the Attic space of the building.

Well-presented expositions on one of Iceland's most important victories, its independence. Collection and advertising of being hit with a plastic bag.

This museum is more than just miniature boats. It contains collections of various items belonging to townspeople. There was an extensive pen collection, sewing machine room, even a space dedicated to the designs of plastic bags over the years. There was also some video art in a big black room that seemed to be in Arabic. I gave 4 stars because it all did feel a bit random, but it was very quaint. I probably wouldn't go back, but it certainly kept us engaged because each room was unpredictable!

I ordered food to go. And if I’m being honest, the only good dish was the deep fried wonton. I ordered the deep fried chicken with orange sauce and the chicken was very much dry. The pork and vegetables spring rolls were soggy and had so much grease. This is very sad.

We were a bit hesitant at first—after six days of Icelandic cuisine, my husband and I were seriously craving authentic Chinese food. Thankfully, we decided to give this place a try, and it did not disappoint. We needed to pay when we ordered. "Antons Mamma Mia" is a local restaurant in Reykjavik, Iceland, known for its predominantly Italian dishes. The restaurant offers a small indoor seating area and friendly service. Nice atmosphere, nice music Coming from an Italian culture I can say, Amazing food! Quite extra salty but as it is in Italy The veggie penne pasta really good, good quantity and flavory. Properly Olive oily Dish and parmesan. 5 stars Mind you have to ask for the bread apart if you want.

Great food and decent service. The pizza was just as good as some we had in Rome and the pasta was nice too. The drinks were generous and the prices were very reasonable. I'm willing to bet we were the only tourists there, it seemed like mostly locals. The atmosphere was pleasant we just wish the service was a little faster. But we would definitely visit again if we're ever in the area.

We each ordered the side salad, which was large enough to share. We then split the seafood pasta. I’ve never had so many delicious shrimp in one pasta dish! The lobster was a tad scarce but huge dish was wonderful. The only reason I didn’t give it a 4 star was because we didn’t get our bread until we had finished the meal and my husband didn’t get his beer until we were almost done with our meal. Overall, great place!!!

A good local restaurant serves predominantly Italian dishes and is close to the Hotel Berg. Small indoor seating area and the girls who served us are super friendly. We tried a local dish, fermented shark as a starter. Interesting and glad we gave it a try! My lamb was well cooked but a bit salty for my likings but this is purely my personal preference and the dish was perfect and very decent portion. My friend's chicken penne was delicious in a huge portion . We ordered some local garlic pizza bread. Thank you for arranging the taxi for us back to the hotel 🏨.

Langbest Restaurant (adjacent to the Courtyard Airport Marriott Reykjavik) offered a solidly American menu, with burgers, pizza, wings, and a full bar. At the conclusion of a ten-day expedition along the west coast of Greenland, expedition leader Quark Expeditions housed its passengers at the Courtyard Marriott near KEF. The expedition covered Greenland’s west coast from near Nuuk to near Ilulissat. We arrived from a chartered flight from Kangerlussuaq, right around dinner time. The place was pretty empty but it was filling up during the 30 minutes I was there. Ordered fries and a burger, both of which hit the spot. Service was very good, it was easy to understand what was being said and I’m pretty sure my server understood me without any difficulty. The food was hot and properly cooked, and filled me up nicely. Note: once the order is taken and the food is served, you won’t see the server bringing a bill to your table. Just let the cashier know what table you were at and they’ll take it from there.

We went before our flight at the airport for a meal, so we were very happy about the quick service, but we were the only table in at the time so we arent sure how busy it could get. Stampar Crater is a fascinating site located on a lava field, offering a glimpse into the origins of the peninsula. Formed during the Reykjanes Fires in the 13th century, this series of craters lines along a rift zone between continents. Despite its small size and unassuming appearance, Stampar offers an intriguing experience for visitors. A short walk leads to the beautifully shaped craters, allowing you to explore and gain perspective on the volcanic activity that shaped the Reykjanes peninsula.
This was our first stop after leaving the airport on the way to the blue Lagoon and it was so cool. We felt like we were on the moon. The landscape was so unique. It’s a quick easy pull off from the road and you can just walk up and spend a couple of minutes there to see the site. There is a trail that is 13km long. The Stampar Crater Row, also known as the Stampar Craters, is a volcanic fissure system. This row of craters is a notable feature within the volcanic landscape of the country and is part of a larger volcanic system that includes several other craters and fissures. The craters were formed as a result of volcanic activity, where lava erupted through a linear fissure, creating a series of craters along its path. Here are a few key points about the Stampar Crater Row: 1. **Location**: The Stampar Craters are situated in the volcanic regions of Iceland, often in remote and rugged areas that can be challenging to access. 2. **Geological Significance**: These craters are significant for studying the geological and volcanic activity in Iceland. They provide insights into the processes that shape the volcanic landscape. 3. **Tourism**: While not as famous as other volcanic sites in Iceland, the Stampar Craters can be of interest to those who are keen on geology and volcanic formations. However, visiting them might require specialized tours or guides due to their remote locations. 4. **Formation**: The craters were formed by volcanic eruptions that occurred along a fissure, leading to the creation of a row of craters. This type of volcanic activity is common in Iceland, which is located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where tectonic plates are pulling apart.

Amazing geological feature highlighting the dynamic nature of Iceland.

Little crater with a parking lot. Easy walk up and nice look around the bast volcanic landscape.
PdB K — Google review
Nice landscape but basically nothing there. Yet it feels great to have the freedom of being able to roam around anywhere in such a place.
Gábor K — Google review
U can go to top the top of the crater, pretty cool place.
Be28ans — Google review
Such an easy spot to miss. A small lay-by with an information sign. There is a small pathway that leads up to a caldera or fissure crater. You can walk around and in this crater to give you a sense of scale of the volcanic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula. There are some incredible rock / lava formations on the walk up to the crater, well worth the short stop.
Ralph E — Google review
A fun, short walk to a beautiful viewpoint! It was really neat to stand in the crater and walk around the rim of this old volcano. You can see the line of ancient volcanoes stretching across the barren landscape for miles, ending at the Atlantic Ocean. I highly recommend checking out this spot!
Ali L — Google review
Wonderful view point. You can walk to the top of small volcano crater, very short walk.. You can see a lot of other craters from the top, and also steam from nearby geothermal area.

Hafnarberg, located just south of the old fishing town Hafnir in Reykjanes, offers breathtaking views of the ocean crashing against tall cliffs. The area is a haven for bird watchers due to its diverse sea bird population. Accessing the site can be challenging, especially during certain months when the road is rough and requires a 4x4 vehicle. However, the stunning scenery and abundant birdlife make it well worth the effort.
This was our first hike in Iceland and we loved it. It's a relatively flat hike from the parking lot- about 1.5 miles one way. Once we got to the cliffs, we sat there for a while and admired the view.... alongside tons of seagulls :). The view was amazing and a great first start to our Iceland trip!
Trouvaille B — Google review
Now this really blew my mind. What a sight to see. Hafnaberg has to be the edge of the earth. It really feels like the world ends here. Standing here face to face with the Atlantic ocean makes you feel tiny. Amazing place.
Gypsy F — Google review
A quick drive from the airport and a nice way to stretch your legs, the hike to the sea cliffs is a relatively flat, 1.5-mile walk (one way) across barren terrain. It felt like being on another planet because there is only low vegetation and rocks as far as the eye can see. While the route itself offers limited scenery, don’t be discouraged. Once you reach the cliff’s edge, you’ll be greeted by sweeping ocean views and countless sea gulls perched along the cliffs.
Erika S — Google review
I highly recommend this hidden gem. My son and I hiked it - and we owned the entire trail. Such an awe feeling when you see nobody around you at all in the vast wilderness! A true reconnaissance of the nature and yourself.
Qian W — Google review
Cliffs were very cool, felt nice to stretch our legs after a long plane ride. Worth the walk.
Greg55 — Google review
These dramatic sea cliffs stretch along the edge of the Reykjanes Peninsula. The scenery is intense and beautiful. Once you arrive, the view opens up to endless ocean and wind-carved rock. You can even spot seabirds nesting in the cliffs.
Dan C — Google review
Amazing view on the ocean. the site is about 2.5km from the parking lot but you can get even closer with your car. there was no one when we got there so we had the whole place for us. I highly recommend to pay a visit, worth the hike.
Riccardo D — Google review
Kind of hard to get to. You have to take an F road before getting to the trail that will take you to the bluffs. The hike is about 30 minutes and most of it is hilly with sand and rock. Well worth it thou. We were the only ones there.

Stekkjarkot is a charming glimpse into Iceland's past, showcasing traditional 1800s fisherman's cottages crafted from turf, stone, and timber. Located on the stunning Reykjanes Peninsula, this heritage site offers visitors an enchanting experience reminiscent of a fantasy world. The unique turf houses served as homes for Icelanders who relied heavily on the sea for their livelihood rather than farming livestock.
Interesting little spot to stop at. There is a sign in English with details and you can perk inside. You can also walk to a few other interesting things and drive 2 minutes to the Viking ship that you can walk in. Worth the stop!

Always a nice stop when around Keflavik.
PdB K — Google review
Stopped by before leaving to the airport. Really cool to see how some of the houses were built and how they may have lived. No other tourists were around which was nice. Couldn't go inside though. Worth a stop to take a look.
Tony S — Google review
The building is closed but anyway you can walk on the yard and see what's inside through windows. Don't worry - nobody lives there ;)

A short visit is all that you can do here (you can't go inside) but it's an interesting read and a beautifully restored house.

Visited 2 years ago: A nice little detour to visit traditional 1800's fisherman's cottage made from turf, stone & timber. There's a nice information sign and area to take photos. Not visited by many visitors in the area. But great to visit briefly before heading to nearby attractions. Note, the route to this area is not paved.
Carol F — Google review
Pretty forgettable sadly. There's a grass roof or two. You can't go inside. Stop only if you're passing by. Much better things to see!
Andrew R — Google review
Nothing special, but is cool to see how the Icelanders lived long ago. It's small, but free and worth the walk around if you have time to kill on the way to the airport or are stopping at the Viking museum. There's even animals you can pet!

This serene spot offers visitors an opportunity to unwind while soaking in magnificent ocean views. With its tranquil atmosphere and absence of crowds, it's the perfect place to sit back and lose yourself in the mesmerizing reflections on the water for hours.
A scenic hiking area is at Steinhellur in Reykjanesbær just north of Keflavík, Iceland. Cliffs mark the spot where an ancient lava flow met the sea at Steinhellur.

Very scenic and quite striking at a distance. We loved stopping by and taking in the view.
Daniela C — Google review
This was our first lighthouse stop upon arriving in Iceland. It’s my husband’s first time visiting, and I wanted it to be special. The cliffs and views of the lighthouse were breathtaking. The weather was chilly and a little windy, but perfect overall. I highly recommend visiting this area—especially if you prefer to avoid crowds. It wasn’t heavily populated, and we had the place to ourselves to roam freely. It was peaceful and so nice to be able to sit and soak in the beauty. Be mindful if you have young children, as there are no safety rails anywhere in the area. The ground has hills, soft spots, and some uneven rocks. Any fall from a cliff here would be serious. This isn’t meant to discourage anyone from visiting, but rather to set realistic expectations and serve as a reminder to keep children close. I’d love to visit this place again before we leave.
Brandy M — Google review
The orange lighthouse is very obvious even from far. Scenery on the cliff is quite nice but can sometimes get quite windy here. There’s also no designated parking area (at least we didn’t find it) so you’d either have to walk a long long way or find somewhere that looks park-able on the road.
Wan-chien H — Google review
Beautiful bright orange lighthouse with easy access. Only worth a stop though if you're in the area.
Greg M — Google review
The orange light house in the dark cloudy weather was a beautiful contrast to the serene Icelandic sea view. There was closed board ahead of the light house and no one around, so not sure if you can go close or go up.
Rakesh N — Google review
One of the most beautiful sight after the stretch of dirt road , we had almost given up hope but we followed the Google maps and got to this striking saffron colored Lighthouse with green and blue backdrops…. It’s so beautiful to look at the vast waters and captivating cliffs

Sandwich shop
Fast food restaurant
Subway is a popular casual counter-serve chain known for its customizable sandwiches and salads, offering healthy options. Visitors have praised the food quality at different locations, with some noting that it tastes better than in the United States. While there were occasional comments about service or product availability, many customers appreciated the fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Overall, Subway seems to be a reliable choice for a satisfying meal while on the go.
Subway located in a retail park between Kronan and Bonus, on the main route between Keflavik Airport and Reykjavik. The food, as it is in Subway - almost all over the world the same. A large room with many tables, yet during peak hours there are queues and sometimes there are no seats. Free parking right in front of the premises, shared with other stores. Relatively friendly service. There is also a sub of the day.
Ss S — Google review
Typical subway fast-food restaurant. Nothing special about it. Been there several times now over the years and it's always okayish. The place itself could eventually do with a bit of a renovation, but it's always been clean and the staff usually is friendly, but doesn't seem too motivated. Be careful they get your order right.. Ordering in English isn't a problem at all, they even have the menu displayed in English.
Luisa — Google review
We had subway at this place twice last week on our trip to Iceland. We are always blown away how much better the food tastes then the states. It actually tastes like food, real food. Other reviews state that employees are rude….some people just whine at everything. We enjoyed the staff the first time they have been nice and we complimented establishment and their food. Last time was super busy and I can understand the frustration with the workers, people came in ordering multiple sandwiches with demand which held up the line. That is who complaints. Who ever said once you been to subway you have been to them all , hugely mistaken or doesn’t travel much. This food was good, staff was great. Would recommend.

Veitingastaðurinn Ráin is a restaurant near KEF airport that offers delicious Icelandic cuisine. The lobster soup and fish of the day are highly recommended, with generous portions that won't disappoint. The service is excellent, and the staff are friendly. While the 80s rock music may not suit everyone's taste, the overall experience is worth it. The restaurant has a beautiful interior and offers a great view.
I had an absolutely delicious first course of Finn whale, followed by a leg of lamb slow cooked in the oven. Everything was totally blissful from the quality of the service, the welcome of the owner, and the astounding view. The owner himself built the restaurant 36 years ago with his brother and family and they have operated it since. The products they use of the highest quality with most of them locally sourced. Even the beer that the young helper suggested, was like liquid gold. Thank you very much for a fantastic afternoon discovering Icelandic food 🙏🥂🕊️

Great food! Nice view on the sea! Our Personal Highlight: - lamb fillet with a crispy skin with perfect vegetable accompaniment Food in General: - a small selection of dishes with fish, lamb, and horse - a selection of Icelandic beers Service: - very friendly - quick - considerate of our extra wishes (I got another sauce for my dish and some extra beetroots) Location: - enough space to sit comfortably at tables indoors - bar-area in a separate room, right next to the restaurant We were travelling through Iceland and had dinner at this restaurant last week. We both took the lamb fillet and were very happy with it! Thank you very much to the team of the Veitingastaðurinn Ráin restaurant for the delicious food. —> state of the review: May 2025
