Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Nestled in the heart of the town, Caerphilly Castle is a moated 13th-century fortress that showcases Norman might and military architecture. The castle's sheer size and imposing gatehouse make it an impressive sight. With its meticulously restored structures, including a tower bombed by Cromwell, visitors can get a sense of medieval life through huge wooden replica siege engines and intricate moats.
Continuing my journey of going to all the castle in Britain. This is one of my favourites! I love how interactive and the use of videos to really bring to life what is a beautiful castle! There is a parking lot near by the castle that is clearly signed and well priced. It’s a nice walk through the park to get to the front. Thought the price was extremely fair!
Dante M — Google review
Was very fairly priced and informative. A lot of the castle still stands amd can be explored inside and out. I would have put 5 stars as castles go but a lot of it you were not allowed to explore and the highest tower was closed due to the wind which was disappointing.
Jordan J — Google review
I've been visiting this castle since I was a child. They had a Halloween trail on for the kids which was good as they had a treat at the end! Very informative about the history of the castle and a lovely walk around. Recommended for anyone in the area.
Victoria D — Google review
Caerphilly Castle is absolutely stunning! 🏰 It’s one of the most impressive castles in Wales and has such a magical, historic vibe. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful moat and lake, and the reflections in the water make it look like something straight out of a fairy tale. ✨ You can walk around the huge walls, explore the towers, and even spot some ducks and swans in the water. It’s a great place for photos, picnics, and learning a bit of Welsh history. I totally recommend visiting — spend a couple of hours here, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and take in the amazing views of Caerphilly town and the hills around it. 🌿📸

One of the best castles during our Wales visit. Very friendly staff who told us the advantages of buying the Cadw 7/14 days explorer pass to get free access to all Cadw castles in Wales. Already after the second visit it was cheaper than paying the regular entrance fee. Many things to explore and a lot of very good audio- and video animations. Also the chance to hear a bit of Welsh language. We enjoyed all the information and also tales about Welsh history. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or around Cardiff for both young and old visitors.

Beautifully restored castle with stunning grounds. £11 entry which i purchased online through CADW. Lakes with wild fowl and a well kept moat surround the castle. Toilet facilities within. The great Hall is beautiful with digital story telling. thoroughly recommend for all ages. With the town literally yards away it's an ideal location 👌🏻
Wayne R — Google review
Lovely castle with a double moat and information presented in a nice modern style. Crazy leaning tower too. A few minuses - he route was a bit confusing (several occasions where "Follow the storey" goes in opposite directions) cnc there isn't a tea room on site.
Michael D — Google review
A wonderful castle ruin, with plenty of information along the self guided tour, not only of the castle but of the history of some of the famous people that lived there. Beautiful scenery. Informative display of catapults, and a fun pair of huge dragons with an audio story accompanied by steam and sound affects.

Shopping mall
Castle Court Shopping Centre is an open-air retail complex that offers a wide variety of popular fashion, home decor, and lifestyle stores. Additionally, it features charming cafes and a kids' club for entertainment. The mall is conveniently located near a large supermarket and provides ample parking facilities with designated spaces for disabled individuals and parents with young children. Its level paved walkways ensure easy access to the shops.
Lovely place to shop and there was a craft fair there when we visited. Plenty of free parking also. The castle is directly opposite
Simon H — Google review
Always clean and tidy with a good range of shops and free parking. A quick walk to Caerphilly Castle and town centre via this shopping centre. I think Caerphilly is underrated as a place to visit. Plenty of food and drink available and the castle as the center point is hard to beat. Heron foods recently closed, so hopefully another business can take over that space soon.
Kevin K — Google review
Pretty dire. Shops run of the mill (the lady in The Works was polite) and the atmosphere was poor. Marijuana smokers lurking about at 14:00 on a weekday and of course no policing. Not pleasant.
M.F.W. K — Google review
What I love most is that there is plenty of parking space which is good when you've got plenty of shopping to do.
Grace O — Google review
A good little shopping centre in Caerphilly. It has a good range of shops and you can get almost anything you need. It's a good place to get the essentials and somewhere to stop for a coffee in costa or a quick bite to eat in Greggs. It was clean, tidy and well presented with a nice display of hanging flowers.
Gemma — Google review
A wide selection of shops laid out in a gallery arrangement with covered glazing on both sides.
Jon A — Google review
Nice litte Shopping Center in Caerphilly with a good selection of little shops offering the basic needs and a little more. You have some coffee shops along as well that offer you the chance to sit down and relax. There is plenty of space and the overall appearance is clean and tidy. Nice place to either have a little wander or go and buy something specific or just chill out with a cup of coffee.

Children's party service
Party planner
Funtastic in Cardiff is a play space that offers a diverse set of activities for children to enjoy and meet new friends. The center aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for kids by providing equipment that gently challenges them to learn new skills. Additionally, the menu at Funtastic caters to various tastes and diets. It also serves as a fantastic soft play and party center, offering options such as laser tag parties.
Absolutely amazing place, I’m not normally a fan of soft play centres but this place is a hidden gem. The kids loved their time here. Also being a Muslim it was so nice to finally go to a soft play centre where our kids can eat too! Halal food available and they even cooked it in a separate fryer for us. The most amazing customer service, staff were all welcoming and wonderful, would definitely recommend a visit.
Melissa A — Google review
My son had a 5th birthday party on Friday between 4-6. It went very well. Staff were very helpful and they enjoyed the mascot and the food. It was busy as there were 2 other parties going on at the same time and it was a Friday night but everyone enjoyed all the same. I would recommend as a party location
Gareth V — Google review
We had a fantastic (funtastic) afternoon yesterday here , celebrating our 2 year old and 6 year olds birthday . We were able to book the whole place to ourselves for family and friends and it was superb . Fully air conditioned (which was a godsend in yesterday's heat) The staff were friendly attentive and helped with everything, making it very soecial for us all. It has something for all ages and kept them all happy ( which created happy parents and guardians) great birthday party food too. A place we highly recommend and will certainly use more of . Thank you .
Robbie A — Google review
The soft play is big and clean; the staff friendly and smiley. The prices of food and the entrance are an excellent value for money.

Excellent...value for money...children’s play centre. Quite a fair size car park, you do need to follow the one way system around the back of the of the building to the front, good floor signage.
Snowy T — Google review
Great soft play. Not huge but ideal for my 5 year old. Air conditioning super in the heat. Cheap and cheerful food, friendly staff and everything seemed very clean including toilets.
Christy — Google review
kids loved it so it needs a easier gate way to it or maybe a flight of the runway that empty next to it , good family session 👍
Paul S — Google review
My Daughter had her 4th Birthday party here yesterday (and last year). The staff were brilliant and the kids thoroughly enjoyed their time here. I had a range from under 1’s to 8 year old. The party weekday package is absolutely amazing up to 30 children and worth the money. Definitely recommend having a kids party here or even a drop in visit with the kids. I come here regularly as I think it’s one of the BEST soft plays which really has an AMAZING VALUE FOR MONEY (DONT CHANGE THIS) what makes your place busy! Want to say a massive shoutout to the lady/staff who’s birthday it was with the badge, she went and got a number 4 light to jazz the room up more for my daughter which was so thoughtful. Thank you so much (I don’t know your name). I think it would be an idea to sort through the little baby part where the sensory light is on the floor, put more under 1s toys and at least have 8 baby walkers as there is only one which isn’t enough for the quantity of babies which attend funtastic as I had 3 under 1’s at the party and couldn’t all use them. Maybe throw all the dirty not looked after toys out also. In regards to the party I would make sure the room is set up properly on arrival for the birthday boy or girl room set up, disco lights on ready and jugs of squash already out prior to children arriving. The jugs need to be bigger as they were really small to save the back and forth trips, a member of staff should've really checked every so often instead of the parents going back and forth for more squash along with monitoring the children as advised. I think that’s a very important part. The parents of the birthday child should also get a free hot drink within the price ;) Lastly, I think funtastic should do a loyalty card so kids can enter free on their 10th time and parents to have a free coffee on their 5th time. Really good idea. … I think the ladies names who hosted us were Hannah and Georgia. If so, thank you both. Thank you all! :)

Located at the top of Caerphilly, Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar is a well-known and famous establishment that has been operating since 1957. It is considered the oldest independent snack bar in the UK and is a popular landmark in the area. Despite its popularity, visitors may encounter queues outside due to pandemic restrictions.
Loved this lovely snack bar situated on the top of Caerphilly Mountain. From there you can follow a number of trails, taking you on a few Circular routes. We found the cream of the crop when we discovered a World War ii Spitfire that had crashed into Caerphilly Mountain in 1914, there were no surviers, but a memorial has been maintained just off the main trails. We had refreshments at the snack bar and enjoyed. First class service guys.
Julie B — Google review
Popped in for a cold drink and a single cheeseburger. Service is fast and burger cooked well. Not bad value at £6.69 as it's a decent sized burger. I suspect you'd get better quality meat in the mountain burger, so worth trying that if you're hungry. Otherwise the burger is pretty standard quality meat for this kind of place. As others have said, there's no inside seating so most people eat in their cars in the generous sized car park. You'll get pretty decent views as well. I sat outside on a bench that was a bit sheltered from the cold wind and it was fine - just wrap up warm.
Kevin K — Google review
The food is always fresh, tasty, and served with a smile. Whether you’re stopping by for a hearty breakfast roll, a quick snack, or a hot drink after a walk, the portions are generous and great value for money. The staff are friendly and welcoming, creating a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere that makes every visit enjoyable. The location is perfect too—set on the mountain with lovely views, it’s an ideal spot to take a break, especially if you enjoy walking, cycling, or just want a peaceful place to sit and eat. It’s clear that this snack bar is loved by locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re passing through—you won’t be disappointed!
ANOOP S — Google review
The food is absolutely amazing and good value for money. They are regularly busy but serve a large quantity of people quite quickly with no compromise on food quality. People happily wait in line for this food. It is a shame however that there is no in door dining space given the mountain is exposed to high wind.

I went here this morning with my 6 year old to buy an ice cream from the ice cream bar. Here are the problems I experienced: - I wanted to get a tea as well, but this wasn't possible and I was told I'd have to go inside and buy that separately. Not very convenient - especially when you're with your kids. - Inside I ordered a bacon sandwich and a tea - they forgot about my tea with the order so I had to chase this up. - They did the milk for me - the tea was horrible, very strong. Please let us do our own milk. - I asked for onions with my bacon sandwich - it was more like an onion sandwich, far too many. - The sandwich was only cut through one slice of bread, not the bacon or the other piece of bread - so I had to self cut and rip apart myself. A bit of a mess. Hopefully this feedback is taken onboard. One positive - my boy loved his ice cream
Nathan W — Google review
No one can deny the mighty mountain burger is immense. All the food to be fair is high quality and yummy. The staff are fantastic and work frantically, (which is absolutely needed). The place is usually full, so there will be a wait. My one gripe, and it is annoying is the automated order system. Man it is clunky! I really wish they overhaul it as it just dosent work the way it should. I get it, it busy and it 100% saves time, but from a customer experience point. Its a bit poop. Nothing better than sitting in your car, nursing a sore head while ploughing through a naughty burger and supping a brew. It is one of my favourite haunts, regardless of the operating system. If you havent already gone, please take yourself there.
Robert W — Google review
Stopped here yesterday for a breakfast roll place was packed which is normally a good sign but the food was awful Bacon had no taste and was very thick asked if I wanted onions on roll which I said yes to well the roll was completely soggy they must boil the onions brown sauce they use is cheap and nasty had a sour taste. Would definitely not Return

Park
Nature & Parks
Parc Cefn Onn is a charming woodland park situated on the northern outskirts of Cardiff, away from any residential buildings. It was designed in the early 20th century and boasts an array of exotic trees and shrubs, including conifers, rhododendrons, and azaleas. The park holds historical significance as it was laid out by Ernest Albert Prosser and his head gardener Tom Jenkins.
A fantastic park area located at the top of Lisvane / Thornhill area. Decent parking with toilet facilities. The park has a long winding walk through some great trees and flowers. Plenty of picnic spots and also a field at the top for the kids to play in.
Dean H — Google review
A lovely little park that is best visited in autumn when the trees are turning different colours. Plenty of little trails to explore and a stream with a nice pond to photograph as well. Parking can be limited on weekends when it's busy. There are toilets here and a coffee van in the car park - not sure if it is always there though.
Kevin K — Google review
Fantastic gardens on an old estate with plenty of ornamental areas, pond, dipped field, woods, wildlife, decent free parking and toilets/dog wash area. Beautiful

Fabulous place to explore nature with our grandson, lovely walks and picnic spots. Great size car park. Would be better if it had an on-site cafe but overall a lovely place.
Victoria H — Google review
Visited Cefn Onn Parc recently for a short 15-minute walk as part of a social outing with children who have ALN, and it was such a positive experience. The kids loved exploring the little streams, spotting all the different fungi, and even climbing on some of the cut-down trees. It’s a really peaceful, dog-friendly place with so much to discover, and I can’t wait to go back and explore more of it.

Such a lovely place to come and just walk, sit down or have a picnic. It comes to life for me personally in the spring time just everywhere you look there is colour. I come here with my wife and woofie and sometimes we just sit and people watch and just switch off. Lovely walk all the way to the top where you can sit and have a picnic. Toilets and a place to wash your boots or woofie in the car park. Parking can be a problem but not all the time. Overall the Parc is spotless.

Consurio Lounge is a new addition to the restaurant chain, located across from Caerphilly Castle. The two-story restaurant offers a great selection of food and drinks, including coffee, cocktails, and the latest beers on tap. The menu features options ranging from tapas to larger meals, with vegan and gluten-free menus available. Customers can order via app or at the bar downstairs. Great atmosphere, we loved the food, and as someone with anxiety it was nice being able to order through a QR code as an option! Staff were lovely too.

The food was good, correct, but the children's burger was thin and dry. The salad with rocket and tomatoes wasn't tasty for me. The service was nice and polite. A place with an atmospheric and creative design. The place is clean and pleasant. Bathrooms are large, clean and fragrant.

Decent food that is just about reasonably priced. Nice interior and staff are quick and efficient to clean tables etc. between sittings. Good service and you can either order off the app or go to the bar. Drinks and food were quick and tasty. The menu has lots of options so there should be a chance to order something you'll like and possibly try something new. Worth a visit and if you sit upstairs you get good views of the castle as well.

Cold restaurant with a cold reception from the staff. Really disappointing Valentine's lunch. The venue is really dirty too. The table and chairs were covered in old candle wax and debris. The glass given to me was incredibly dirty. I'm assuming the management team haven't heard of Renovate. Food was average. Cold sweet potato fries which had to be returned. Missing items from the mains. In general, pretty rubbish.
Daniel R — Google review
Regular visitor here but the last 3 visits have been poor. Especially the drinks service and quality of drinks. I have given feedback via email the first time and manager emailed back but sadly this has got worse. A few weeks ago I waited 30 minutes for 1 pink lemonade. I asked 2 servers and still no drink. I had to go downstairs and get myself in the end. No apology ! The. Yesterday our food came before our drinks again! The pornstar martini was full of Prosecco and couldn’t drink and again we had to ask where our drinks were as food was already on the table . We also had to ask for cutlery. Also tried the cookie dough which was burnt around the outside and unable to get out and eat as it was that hard. The staff used to be so friendly and attentive in here but the service has gone down hill massively . You also need to sort the quality of your cocktails and wait time on drinks! Very disappointing as I was a regular customer here but sadly won’t be rushing back as that’s 3 poor visits now

Fab meal, venue and staff 👌 the waitress was amazing correcting my husband mistake when ordering, which we really appreciated. The food was cooked perfectly and reasonably priced. This is a child friendly venue with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. The views in the outdoor area are of Caerphilly Castle so you could happily spend many an hour sipping your favourite drink and watching the local wildlife. Dogs are welcome and catered for, you'll find blankets, bowls, water and treats next to the doors leading to the outdoor area. They have a separate seated area for smokers which leaves plenty of outdoor eating tables if the weather is nice Some nice little touches throughout and I would highly recommend a drink or meal here

More than an hours wait for a moderately warm burger. No warning or apology from the staff. The pub is not very busy. It took so long I lost my appetite and finished my drinks before food was served. The photo shows the beers garden empty and there is no one inside....

Fantastic new member of staff who is a credit to the place. Went above and beyond this morning and was great to see someone who wasn’t robotic. I didn’t catch his name but will next time I’m in to update here. Great food and a credit to the company.

This place is very hit and miss. Only one or two staff members have any customer service skills, the rest are not interested through to rude. Usually staff are too busy chatting to each other or their friends who visit the shop to pay any attention to you - on a previous visit I was asked the same question 3 times, when I commented on this they were again too busy talking to hear what I was saying. I know it's not the most thrilling job in the world but a smile and a hello wouldn't hurt. It's also not very clean, on a recent visit there were black rubbish bags in the food prep area and they seem to have an issue with fly's in the shop which are evident almost everywhere and again staff are oblivious. They all wear gloves but I've seen some not change them between serving people for food and at the till.

Pub
Nestled in the heart of Caerphilly, The Travellers Rest is a charming rustic pub that boasts stunning views over the city. With its inviting thatched roof and delightful garden, it offers a perfect escape for those seeking comfort food made from seasonal ingredients. Whether you're looking to unwind with friends or enjoy a cozy meal surrounded by nature, this pub provides an ideal setting to savor delicious dishes while soaking in the picturesque scenery.
“Come for the food, stay for Darren’s comedy show!” Travellers Rest is our go-to haven for hearty meals, scenic views, and the kind of warmth that makes you forget the British weather. But let’s be honest — the real star of the show isn’t the Brunch (though it is dangerously good). It’s Darren, our favourite staff member 🫶🏻 From the moment we walk in, Darren greets us with a warm smile and a one-liner ready to go. His banter? Sharper than a steak knife and twice as satisfying. He somehow manages to deliver pints and punchlines with equal flair - honestly, we’d pay an entry fee just to be seated in his section. He remembers our orders, our names, and even that one embarrassing story from last year (don’t ask). Darren is what happens when great service meets stand-up comedy with a splash of charm. If you’re looking for top-notch food, friendly vibes, and a server who makes every visit feel like you’re catching up with an old mate (who happens to be a professional comedian), this is your place. Ask for Darren - just don’t challenge him to a joke-off. You’ll lose.

Love visiting travellers rest, even if it’s for a bar snack (3 for £12) a pub grub meal, or coffee & dessert. Food is delicious & service is amazing, staff are welcoming and friendly. I’d highly recommend visiting, it’s extra special when the fire is on during the colder days. Thank you Tania & your team for all your hard work.

What a fabulous pub, in a beautiful location. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and shown straight to our table. Darren was our waiter and very funny! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and very clean. Food was delicious, my only criticism was the time it took for our dinner to arrive, it was a bit too long , but everything else cancels that out. We will return

Nice old pub. Different to ones in Australia. Just watch your head on entry . Food was great, service quick. Had the chicken parmigiana or parmy as we call it was up there with the best I've had. The bacon was a different touch as I normally have ham on it ,but was again great

Lovely country pub with thatched roof, low ceilings with oak beams, open fires, creating a superb atmosphere. Good selection of beer on tap, with ciders, wines, cocktails, etc. also to choose from. Excellent, friendly, quick service. Food quality is phenomenal, compliments to the chef and staff. Good sized car park. Outside seating available. Dog friendly. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was perfect, food devine and the first class. We completed our walk over Caerphilly Mountain and Trig Point and could see for miles over the Egwysian, Caerphilly, the Bristol Channel, Steel Holm, flat Holm and Cardiff. Loved the walk and the well deserved refreshments at the Travellers Rest

Came in for lunch with a friend. Was greated by Steph who was very cheerful, she found us a table and sat us very quickly, she told us Lisa was our server. Lisa greated us with a smile and was happy to answer our questions, and give us information best to her knowledge. She informed us our chefs would be Dylan and Beccy.

Day 2

South side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the south side side of town. Start the day off with Mountain View Ranch, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Visit Caerphilly. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Mountain View Ranch

Outdoor activity organiser
Mountain View Ranch is a popular destination with a wild west theme that draws in many visitors. The ranch offers various attractions for children, including wooden climbing frames, sand play features, slides, obstacle courses, zip wires, swings, and a magical fairy forest. Additionally, visitors can enjoy activities such as toasting marshmallows at the campfire and exploring hobbit houses and Wales' only officially licensed Gruffalo Trail. The ranch also provides amenities such as ample parking and multiple restroom facilities.
What an amazing place this is. I took my 3 grandchildren here today (ages 4, 6 and 9) and we had the best time together. We laughed and smiled so much, we had the best time together. Well done Mountain Ranch on what you’ve put together, the right blend of everything that equals enjoyment for all, and at a great price too 👏👏👏

Can't sing their praises enough. First visit & Can't wait to return. Don't know who enjoyed it more, us adults or the children! Very clean, well looked after. Things to do dotted all around. Really gets choldrens imagination going. Dog friendly which is a bonus as we were able to take the dog too. Plenty of parking. Friendly, welcoming staff. Pizza was also great! The cafe is clean, tidy & great selection too. Easter egg trail which was fab, children had a chocolate egg at the end :)

Its a very long walk for younger kids so comfy shoes are a must the activities are so good and varied the tree houses are amazing there are two massive pillows for bouncing on like a trampoline you have to take shoes off not an issue but its sandy round the edge so trying persuade an autistic child to put the shoes back on for the rest of the walk was tricky but we managed the cafe is beautiful lovely ice cream much needed after the walk great value for money too
Storm Q — Google review
Brilliant experience. We took our eight and three year old grandchildren to Mountain View Ranch to see the Gruffalo Trail, but the Ranch is so much more than the Trail. It’s 100 acres of wide open space for kids to run around and explore with cleverly interspersed activities on a nicely choreographed route. The activities and experiences blend in with the wonderful natural setting and are all good quality. It was our first visit, so it was all new to us, but I think every visit will be different due to the seasons. The children loved the map and collecting the stamps on it along the way so they could get the Gruffalo sticker. There are porta loos scattered discretely along the route and plenty of bins, including recycling. Benches and picnic tables are available to eat your own picnics. As it is school holidays the Pizza Hut was open. Pizzas were freshly made and tasty, prices £10 to £12. Had a quick look in the coffee shop and apart from ice cream, cakes and takeaway coffee there only seemed to be a few white bread pre-packed sandwiches available. We pre booked on the website and got a 10% discount. We were lucky with the weather, some showers first thing and then sun, but if the weather is going to be bad on the day you’ve booked you can move your booking. Price was very good, £32.90 for the four of us. We booked a 9.40 slot, and could have stayed until the park closed at 5pm. From the playground sited in a huge sand pit with big Tonka Toy trucks at the entrance, to meeting (spoiler alert) the Gruffalo at the end this is a brilliant day out for the whole family. No need for a phone, except to take some lovely photos. Unfortunately as my grandchildren are visible in most of my photos I can’t post too many here. There are some improvements coming into 2026 and we look forward to returning to The Ranch. The Mountain View Bike Park is separate, but next to the Ranch, so there is something for everyone on this site.

We had a lovely day yesterday, it was our first visit and we were very impressed 😁. The grounds are beautiful, each activity is designed with amazing creativity. The treehouses and the fairy woods. There was so much to do! The entry price is inclusive, everywhere is else is so expensive but keeping your prices low will invite many more visitors. We travelled for an hour to get to you and would again and again for the lower price.

Such a fantastic day out! Tip, start at the end first and work your way back up the ranch! Lots to do for the kids, different things along the way! The goats do eat the trail maps, so to avoid tears, hold them away from the goats when petting 😂 Will definitely be back again soon, the kids absolutely loved their time here.

Wildlife park
Children's farm
The Meadows Farm Village in Wales offers a picturesque setting with its castle and lake, making it a great spot for a leisurely walk. While the entry fee is on the higher side, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy, including various animals that can be petted at specific times. Families with young children will appreciate the opportunity to interact with rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as the small park for kids to play in.
We had a fabulous time at the wildlife park last week. Very clean with hand washing stations about. Picnic tables to eat a packed lunch. My nephew really enjoyed seeing all of the animals especially the Armadillo and Tega. Very affordable and well kept up place. I highly recommend! Get the bag of feed, it's so fun feeding the alpaca, goats, and sheep!
Sarah — Google review
Such a lovely place, I had no idea it was there. 90% of the enclosures are to a good standard and the animals seem very healthy. Lovely volunteers feeding the pigs and goats (Monday). Unfortunately it is not great for prams and it was very bumpy which kept my little one awake the whole time. They have tried to make it better but it needs a lot more done. Ramps need to be improved. Cafe is very cute. Bird Avery's were lovely.
Rebecca C — Google review
Good day out, nice place, decent variety of animals and that's about it. Things to make place better - need much better toilet facility, very poor! Most of the wash stations didn't work properly, need better play areas for kids and it's expensive for what it is. Extra charges for animal encounters, animal feed should be £1. Foam party was cool, kids enjoyed that, but as it was at 4pm, we had to wait along time as you will go around the park in 2hrs max, should bring it forward a bit. If you haven't been then it's a decent day out with kids, but doesn't have repeat visit appeal.
Kabir A — Google review
Fabulous park. My 10 year old granddaughter loved seeing the different animals - and particularly enjoyed feeding the goats and llamas and being able pet them. Nicely laid out with picnic areas and lovely play areas too..will definitely visit again
Melanie G — Google review
Absolutely fantastic day out with the kids. Plenty of things to see and do. Lovely areas for the children to play, eat and run around. You need to pay extra for interactive sessions, but for 2 adults and 2 children was an extra £12 for 3 sessions. Def worth a visit and we will be back.
Jo T — Google review
Went on a family outing to the Park (2 adults, 1 child) and everyone had a fantastic time. Even as you walk in towards reception you already get to see some gorgeous peacocks and ducks. Friendly greeting at reception and easy sign in. We were handed our animal feed (purchased in advance with our tickets) and explained the rules very clearly. We stopped for a snack first at one of their picnic tables and then proceeded through the park. Amazing animals right as you start with information about them on a poster by the enclosure. We were extremely lucky to have been there at feeding time and we got to see one of the volunteers feed the meerkats and he even took the time to tell us about their personalities and behaviour. It was amazing to see the animals up close and being cared for so nicely. As we carried on, we got to see some animals we don’t usually see in these farms, like a Kookaburra and a skunk. Continued on towards the goats who were hungry fellas and very gentle, my child had a great time feeding them. We then headed towards the llamas and alpacas who were also very gentle and easy to feed, it was a fantastic experience. Throughout our visit we got to see swans, ducks, horses, lemurs, capybaras and even wallabies! One of the wallabies had a baby in their pouch! So cute!! Foam party at 4pm by the reception which all the kids seemed to be having a blast with! I’ll also mention that there’s a lovely play area for smaller children with a sand pit and some little houses. There were hand washing stations all throughout so you could consistently wash your hands after interacting with the animals. If I have one small note, it would be that a few of them had run out of soap but that wasn’t that big of an issue as there was always another one nearby. We’ll just bring some hand sanitiser next time, no biggie. We didn’t sign up for the animal interaction this time - they have goats, bunnies, Guinea pigs and tortoises - but we will for sure go for it next time. All in all, it was a brilliant time, there is something for everybody there. You can see the animals are well taken care of and they all looked very relaxed. The staff/volunteers are incredibly nice and more than one took the time to have a chat with us about the animals. Will definitely be visiting again.
Iovane M — Google review
Such a lovely spacious farm. With s lovely petting area where you can sit with rabbits and guinea pigs. There is the option of paying extra to go into some of the pens with certain animals. The farm was clean and tidy. The volunteers were friendly and were able to answer questions. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is we had to wait 30 mins in a queue to enter, even though we booked online for quick entry and a certain time slot. It was a very hot day with no shade. My child got bored and wanted to go home even before we go in.
Sheree O — Google review

Visit Caerphilly and explore the beautiful castle ruins with plenty of nooks and crannies to discover. The friendly staff and great price make it a worthwhile visit for families. Afterward, enjoy a nice coffee or tea at the nearby cafe before taking a stroll around the pond. While the castle may be a bit expensive for some, it offers splendid views, complete battlements, siege weapons, and knowledgeable staff to enrich your experience.
Beautiful castle ruins and certainly worth a visit. What i found the most impressive is that there weren't many areas you couldn't explore, so it was great to be let loose to find all the nooks and crannies of the castle, and there are loads of little hidden places to find. Great price and certainly can take up an hour or two of your time very easily. The staff as always were very friendly too.

Nestled with a picturesque view of the castle grounds, The Raj Of India offers a vibrant and modern dining experience paired with an authentic Indian menu. Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting this delightful restaurant with my son and granddaughter, Olivia, who was experiencing traditional Indian cuisine for the first time. Our waiter Joe went above and beyond to make her feel special, creating a memorable evening for all of us.
Went as a group of 10 for our Christmas meal. The staff were happy to take our orders separately so everyone paid for what they had. Complimentary poppadoms on arrival. Bring your own alcohol and no corkage applied. I had prawn puree starter followed by a lamb lalusa and garlic naan. Everyone enjoyed their meal and they are very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place

Have been coming here for nearly 20 years, never had a bad meal, hubby is slowly working his way through the menu and has not had a complaint yet, service is always 5* whether you are eating in or taking away, they even know our favourite dishes, a proper family establishment, I can not recommend enough.

Glorified take away. Booked for a sit down meal. Couldn't shut the windows properly so cold blowing in. No tablecloth or plate warmers so everything went cold quickly. No atmosphere so won't be back.

Absolutely shocking experience with Raj of India Caerphilly on New Year’s Eve 2024. I placed an order at 6:10 pm with a 45-minute delivery estimate. Knowing it was a busy evening, I waited patiently until 7:15 pm before trying to contact them. From then until 9:14 pm, I called 11 times, sent messages on WhatsApp, and even tried Facebook Messenger—no response. When I finally got through, the person on the phone said, “I packed that ages ago,” as if that was an acceptable excuse. Meanwhile, I’d been waiting over 3 hours for food that never arrived. I’ve had issues with their slow delivery before, but this time it was the last straw. How can a business keep accepting orders when they clearly can’t handle the demand? If you’re too busy, stop taking new orders so customers can find somewhere else instead of being left waiting and hungry for hours. Save yourself the stress—just don’t bother.
Pete G — Google review
The staff are always incredibly friendly and seem to have a savant-like memory for the curries I’ve ordered in the past, which makes each visit feel personal and memorable. The food is consistently excellent, super tasty and served in no time at all. I’ve been back the last two Saturdays and it’s been an absolute pleasure. Curries of this quality truly deserve to be enjoyed in a restaurant setting, not just from the sofa in front of the TV. Please do take this as a heartfelt note of appreciation. I really enjoy eating at your place and seeing your friendly faces.

Kevin M — Google review
Awful, awful, awful. Please avoid! When the food eventually turned up, one of the main meals was missing. Vindaloo sauce had spilt everywhere in the bag. An absolute mess. Greasy, gristly food of the very lowest quality. The missing meal was delivered over an hour later (with no freebies as a gesture of goodwill), by which time the rest of the food had solidified in its own muck. The worst service and Indian food I’ve ever eaten.

We visited The Black Cock Inn for a family birthday meal (three of us, total bill £69.50) and left pretty disappointed. The portion sizes were small and everything felt overpriced for what we got. My mother’s steak aaround £21 tasted frozen, not fresh. When I tried it, water came out of the meat, there was no seasoning, and it had no flavour at all. My chicken tikka curry, rice, and chips (also £16) were just standard, nothing special. The chips were the best part and the rice was wet. We ordered nachos for £7, expecting enough to share, but it came in a small gravy boat dish. It was barely enough for a child, let alone a table. We didn’t bother with dessert since they were £7 each and after the rest of the meal, we didn’t feel like it was worth trying. Overall, the food quality and portion sizes do not match the prices. Would not come back for a special occasion.

For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Heath Park. Not quite as popular as Caerphilly Castle, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Nature & Parks
Heath Park, located in the northern suburbs of the city, spans 37 hectares and offers a variety of attractions for visitors. The park features a model railway, pitch and putt course, tennis courts, and a playground suitable for children of different ages. Additionally, it boasts expansive grassy fields ideal for dog walking and leisurely strolls. Nearby amenities such as shops and cafes provide convenience for park-goers looking to relax after their visit.
This is a lovely park situated not too far from Heath Hospita to spend time to relax and get some fresh air. Always a nice place to visit to chill out on a sunny day . And since the last time I visited, I've also discovered that Brodies Coffee has now opened up a place up there, which makes it an even better place to visit after chilling out!
Martin S — Google review
Big park considering it is in a city. It has different sections open grassland, woodland and a few small ponds. This park has had more investment than my local parks. There are also playgrounds, tennis courts and a mini railway. They look to be opening a Brodie's coffee in the hut there, which is good as there aren't many coffee or food options without leaving the park otherwise. That will also have toilets (unsure if they will be for customers only). There are a few different car parks, which is good as it spreads visitors out a bit. The car park I go to is also free for the first 2 hours which is rare in Cardiff now - providing you enter your registration details.

Didn't want to drive so got there by bus. Not difficult to go but still a track to the park. Kids playground, tennis courts and green if you'd like a picnic. A kiosk there selling drinks and lollies. But please DO NOT use the toilet there. Can walk further up for miniature train ride. But it was far too busy we went the weekend before school holiday week. Paid £1.80@ to go in the "train station" area and was surprised to find out we still need to pay £1.80@ every mini train ride! Thought the entrance fee would mean train rides! Love the train model there and guess that money goes into the fund to keep the area going, but appreciate a free ride if it requires entrance fee. Thanks for the volunteers/staff who run the place anyway.

Lovely clean and spacious park! Cardiff is definitely the best city when it comes to offering green open spaces.

Only a quick visit. Got a bit busy, as expected during these times, but manageable. A great climbing frame for the older 6+ kids and a smaller one for the toddlers. A lovely pond and wooded area to walk around and explore. Also a big football pitch/grass and golfing area. Plenty of space to run around and let off some steam.
Mike C — Google review
Lovely large outdoor space with childrens play area. Lots of room to walk the dogs
Gemma L — Google review
A lovely family/dog park in my neighborhood, my husky loves it so much, plenty of space for him to run and play. My second favorite park in Cardiff after Bute Park which is even more amazing. 💕 💕 💕
Ysabel V — Google review
Another one of Cardiff's great parks! Lovely all year round. Always seems full of life at the park with kids players, people walking dogs. They even have new tennis courts that are in great condition that you can use as a PAYG.

Hi I ordered from your burger place on just eat and I am appalled with the food and service. My 2 burgers were completely wrong and I was missing chips. I phoned the restaurant and spoke to Charlie who was nothing but rude. She told me there was absolutely nothing they can do and advised me to re order and re pay. When I am not guaranteed a refund through just eat. What we did have was awful. The burgers were literally burnt to a crisp. And the chips in the tray were literally less than half full. All I wanted was to give the 2 wrong burgers back and have the 2 correct ones I ordered. Although after eating what we did receive I will never want to eat from here again which is a shame.

Located in the heart of Caerphilly town the King's is a great pub to watch sport at, there are plenty of TV's and a big screen. The decor is a bit tired but it adds to the character of the pub as a whole, the staff are friendly and the food is decent, though the menu isn't the most extensive.

Nice pub pleasant staff good range of ales and decent menu. Visited on an arranged coach visit before going on to watch WBA at Cardiff City. Was made to feel welcome by the locals and recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Had the best burger and waffle fries ever today! Shane behind the bar recommended it and suggested I try a peppercorn sauce with it, well it was banging and it’s now my new favourite. Thank you Shane for great customer service and a banging lunch

They do not serve food, otherwise they had a good selection of drinks to choose from and good music playing.

Nice in eating area with friendly staff. Food was hot but the beer battered fish was just awful. It started off fine but about half way through it became watery, greasy, and bland. I could not eat it and left with a stick of gum in my mouth desperately trying to erase the memory of it! I could not use the loos as 1 seat was broken, another had the remnants of blood smeared on the seat and another one looked like it had feaces on the outside of the bowl. The last cubicle was a no go as it was so small I would have had to press myself against the loo to get in and there was no way on this earth would I do that after what I saw😨😨😨

Poppelwood Play Centre

4.4

Children's amusement center
By installing the VoiceMap application, individuals can access a guided tour led by a local named Suzie. Commencing at the tourist information center situated in the heart of town, participants will be directed throughout the vicinity while gaining knowledge about various notable landmarks including the statue of Tommy Cooper, the courthouse, the Welsh National Anthem statue, and undoubtedly, the castle. Recently visited this establishment with an unhappy baby and received permission from amiable staff to utilize their tranquil story room located at its rear for feeding purposes.
Absolutely brilliant, but the staff are the best part. It’s a beautiful play area with reading nook, toddlers area and larger climbing frame with slide. Kids loved it. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and were really understanding when one of my children had an accident. Will be back again soon.
Lauren T — Google review
Booked a small party for our little boy today and it was wonderful. Staff were so helpful and polite, beforehand and on the day. We've been to Poppelwood a few times and always enjoy. It's such a lovely soft play/role play with a twist, especially for younger kids. Our party consisted of ages between 1-5yrs and it was perfect for them all. Lovely little baby section and an older soft play area, although our little boy is 2 and the bigger area is safe enough for him to go around by himself. The best party is the lovely forest/fairy houses which have a reading nook and a play kitchen. It's very cute and well thought out. Decent food and fair prices. We already can't wait to come again. Thank you ladies for making our afternoon really memorable.
Keith J — Google review
We went here with our grandaughter over Easter and had a fantastic time. There was extra fun and excitement provided by the Easter Bunny and an Easter egg hunt with prizes. The place is put together with great imagination, and obviously done by people who really care about and understand children. As well as the great softplay areas, there are little bridges, tunnels and nooks to explore with reading areas or kitchens in them. The staff are lovely - really friendly and very helpful. I've read a couple of reviews where people don't like the low seating and tables...but in my view these are ideal for adults and children to sit on/at as long as you watch they don't grab your hot drinks - but this is something you'd always expect to do with small children around anyway. The booking system ensures it's not too busy. Our hot chocolate was delicious. I would recommend taking a jumper, as it can feel a bit cool when you first arrive, but once you start running around with the children, you soon warm up. A really magical place...and the best softplay experience we've ever had. Highly recommend.

quaint not too big, lovely wooden theme, very clean, new things, nice staff. not massive but nice. love the little wooden houses and play centres. better for smaller kids than teenagers.
Buhir R — Google review
Nice little place, doesn't have loads of stuff but easy to spend a couple of hours in. Shame the wizard hut and couple of the buildings are padlocked and not open. Booked online and pretty cheap for just £6 a table (for 4 people including 1 child place), and get a 2 hour slot.
Matthew P — Google review
Had my daughter's 5th birthday party here today. It was excellent! Poppelwood has a lovely, chilled environment as you arrive. The staff have everything organised and running very smoothly (though are very hard to get hold of for any communication leading up to the party), the wizard entertainment was amazing and the kids loved it. So different to your ordinary soft play experience. They've gone to so much effort with the setting and play equipment. Really magical!
Sandra D — Google review
Lovely setting for childrens parts or just indoor play. Went to a party there that had a Wizard potions show in a cottage within the play centre. The children also had their party meal in the cottage.

Such a lovely area my 2 and 3 year old loved it. Clean and stunning to look at would have loved to go while the wizard was there so we will definately be returning for that x

Park
Nature & Parks
Parc Penallta offers a spacious carpark with picnic tables and benches for enjoying the views. Dog bins are available, and it appears that visitors make use of them as the area is relatively clean. The park seems ideal for biking, although navigating may be challenging due to its size. There is a lake or pond within the park, but its location was not discovered during this visit.
A lovely walking trail with plenty of points of interest along the way. You can follow different paths and walk it whichever way you want, but if you want to see all the points of interest then just make sure you keep an eye on which direction you pick at junctions. Various ponds, the pit pony and observatory are worth seeing and for me the highlight is Penallta rocks, the craggy cliff face that you can walk onto and around. Plenty of photogenic spots and a varied and gentle walk, definitely a place to visit in any weather.

This is a place I’ve come to, many times to walk my dogs. I’ve seen the park mature over the years until present day. The park is maintained by a great team who have done a lot of work over the years to address drainage. As you walk around, you’ll see culverts which have been added. If you check out Penallta Parc on Google Earth, you’ll be able to see “Sultan” the horse from satellite. An aerial view shows a horse sculpted during the creation of Penallta. It’s a lovely place to walk and there are lots of different paths to explore. It’s a peaceful place and great to escape the hustle and bustle of life. In summer, people bring a picnic and sit on the grass relaxing. Well worth a visit.
Caro L — Google review
Dog walking heaven! A nice selection of well maintained all weather trails interspersed with sculptures referencing nature and the areas mining past - perfect for dog walking, running or just going for a leisurely stroll. There are a number of wildlife ponds with decking and viewing platforms so care should be taken to keep dogs under control in these areas. The lower sections of the parc also form part of the national cycle network route 47 - so once again care should be taken to keep dogs under control due to passing cyclist. A walk up to the highest point in the parc is rewarded with some pleasant views and is a great spot to stop and take it all in. There isn't an on site cafe but the Colliers Rest adventure farm & cafe is adjacent to the bottom car park and does nice coffee and cakes along with a decent looking breakfast.
Andrew W — Google review
Lovely place, always loads of space to park. Great walking trails and loads of space if you have a dog. Bouldering on site too. Huge field so games/picnics or playing.
Meg B — Google review
Such a beautiful and breathtaking place to be the views are something to behold, penallta Parc is an amazing memorial to the miners and pit ponies that dedicated their lives to families and people in their community's

We go for a walk here most weekends, it's a gorgeous park. We particularly appreciate that it has a proper tarmac path which makes it pram & wheelchair accessible. There are a lot of options to go on dirt/ gravel paths too if you want a bit more of an explore, so there's something for everyone. Such a great place to have on your doorstep, recommend if you want some fresh air.
Melissa S — Google review
Beautiful place to walk the dog, so many different trails to walk. Unfortunately the only downside is there are so many inconsiderate dog owners out there who do not pick up after their dogs, or who do pick up in dog bags and then throw them in the bushes, really shame as it can spoil it. More bins are needed around the site
Anthony L — Google review
Only ventured to the main flat area to try the drone. Nice location for a walk, and a few walking trails off the main flat grassy section. Good car park spacing, but I didn't see any toilets. I think this links to the Taff Trail north/south so a good route to explore if you are passing on a bicycle. There was a few points of interests we will look at next time, but not much to say based off our first visit. There were many dog walkers so I did mention I would be using a drone and are they OK with that. I wanted pictures of above the old Penallta Colliery, but so many restrictions regarding drone flying it's hardly worth holding my licence. These are the points of interests people want to see, especially as I run a local community page also. After looking all over this location next time, it may reflect a higher rating than three stars given this time.

I absolutely adore this establishment for several reasons. The cuisine is absolutely fantastic, crafted with high-quality ingredients. The staff members are amiable and hospitable, providing excellent service. Despite its size, the eatery is beautifully adorned and possesses a charming atmosphere. All pizzas are prepared in a wood-burning stove within an open kitchen, enhancing the genuine ambiance. While it may get crowded at times, reservations can be made or takeout is available as an added convenience.
I absolutely love this place and there are a number of reasons why, all the food tastes superb and is made with quality ingredients. The staff there are friendly, welcoming and the service is great. Whilst the restaurant is not the largest, it is well decorated and has a nice cosy feel to it. All pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven in an open kitchen which adds to the authentic experience. At times the restaurant can fill up quickly, but you can make reservations and if you can't get a table they also do takeaway which is an added bonus. Caerphilly town is lucky to have such a great place to eat, why not treat yourself to a visit you won't regret it.

Pizza was delicious! So was the limoncello cocktail with a scoop of lemon sorbet in it. The chef and waiter were both lovely and really helpful. The chef took the time to explain how he makes the pizza dough when I asked him some questions as I'm just starting to make pizzas at home.

This Neapolitan style pizzeria is an absolute gem and a must try (then likely go again). The traditional wildfired pizza's were incredible and the custard, Nutella and pistachio cream bombs were the literal icing on the cake. Incredible!

Quite simply the best pizza I've had in the UK. The guys are from Napoli, where pizza originated from, and it shows. Authentic stone-oven in the corner, fresh ingredients, dishes not normally available in the UK. Thoroughly recommended and enjoyable. It took me back to being in Italy. The meatballs are amazing, and being truly from Naples-never ask for pineapple on pizza, it's a big no no.

Mama Mia, that is some fine pizza! Absolute first grade pizzas are being made in this little pizzeria in the heart of Caerphilly, and I want to go back to try the different things on the menu. I think one of the reasons the food here is so good is that they use such high-quality ingredients, so even the most simple dishes taste magnificent. Bravo!

Oh this place looks understated, don't let this fool you. The food in this place is beautiful Italian food, it tastes so good and the service was brilliant, they couldn't do enough for us. My eyes were bigger than my belly because I was hungry and I ordered a side of chips as well, couldn't eat the chips to save my life I was so full so they gave us a doggy bag to take them with us. The portions are great and the staff are too, all reasonably priced and clean as a whistle. Don't let this diamond of a place pass you by, you'll be sorry. Thanks so much for a lovely meal.

Fish and chips takeaway
Fast food restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Caerphilly, Castle Fish Bar is a delightful gem for anyone craving traditional fish and chips. Since relocating from Cardiff, many have found this chippy to surpass their previous favorites. The chips are consistently crispy on the outside while remaining fluffy inside, showcasing the care that goes into every dish. Their homemade chicken curry has garnered quite a following as well!
Was here august 2018! Amazing food! Fish and chips are some of the best! Can’t wait to go back one day after this stupid Covid

Good fish and chips, along with two curry choices, once hotter than the other. Perfect if you want to sit in the park behind or plan a wander around Caerphilly Castle.

This chip shop is by far the best in Caerphilly but unfortunately it is also one of the slowest. They close at 9 o'clock. A couple of times I've been over about 8.15 and told they only have what's left and won't cook anything else. Also, I have tried to phone in orders on 3 seperate occasions so as to not wait but no answer on the phone. Such a shame as its lovely
Jenny D — Google review
Having recently moved down from Cardiff it’s been hard to find a chippy that could match up to my previous local, but castle fish bar are even better! Every time I’ve been the foods been excellent, chips are always crispy on the outside and lovely and fluffy in the middle. You can tell they take care with everything from the chips to the homemade chicken curry (personal favourite). Service can be slow at peak times as food is cooked fresh from what I understand but it’s well worth the wait as no chippy I’ve had in Caerphilly really matches up!
Rhys J — Google review
The person serving was handling cash and not wearing their mask when they were ask to at least pop their mask on and clean their hands, after watching them serving and taking cash, hand washing is a simple thing and as a food establishment should be done as standard they took a tiny amount of hand gel and rubbed it into their finger tips, sorry but this isn't hand washing, they have then put on the mask, completely pointless. Safe to say I asked the member of staff that night to clean their hands and not touch their mask before handling food and was met with an eye roll attitude, So I walked back to my car without food, safe to say this isn't my first experience of this at this shop but thought I'd give it another go.

Disgusting food. I have been using chippy for few months. Today fish cakes were hard like they had been reheated. Chips same. Greasy and tasted horrible. Going to try somewhere new next time. This was the one nantgarw rd as I only use this chip shop and a Friday night served by young girl and older cook. Very disappointed and waited over 30 minutes to be served and also had to have a refund on an item as the shop didn't make any. Curry sauce

If you're on the hunt for exceptional Indian cuisine, look no further than New Viceroy. This gem has garnered a loyal following thanks to its consistently delicious dishes and generous portions that often leave patrons with leftovers for the next day. The naan bread is particularly noteworthy, earning rave reviews from locals. While the ambiance can be a bit chilly at times—so it's wise to bring along a cozy sweater—the warm and friendly staff more than make up for it with their attentive service.

I've never eaten in the restaurant, but have been getting takeaway for years after coming to the conclusion (after much research) that this is absolutely the best Indian food in quite a big area. I've never been anything less than completely happy with the food here, and I wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant to anyone.
James H — Google review
Food lovely and plentiful, in fact I had to take half of it home to have the next day, which is absolutely fine with me 😁 Naan bread was one of the nicest I've had in the local area. Restaurant is a little chilly so make sure you wear/take a jumper/cardigan that you can put on if you're cold.

Stopped for a takeaway on our way home as the reviews looked good. It was not good at all. The CTM was dyed bright red, really thick, like jam or porridge and very, very sweet. I have never seen or tasted Tikka Masala that colour and with such a weird texture. A tiny pot of creamy sauce was in the bag, that was tasteless too. I stirred it into the CTM but it did not improve the taste. The Korma also very sweet but with no flavour of anything, just bland. The 2 medium sauces for Lamb tasted OK but the one was just a pot of onions with hardly any sauce. The Dopiaza was the only decent sauce. It was really good. They did manage to cook plain rice and poppadoms that were edible. If I lived closer I would have taken the whole lot back and made them taste it. £30 wasted. While waiting, I tried to have a conversation with the man on the till and it was like talking to the wall. Zero interest in me and my questions about delivering curry. Try harder mate, especially as it was a Tuesday and there were just 2 people in there plus me. Horrible. Never again.

Hotel Campanile Cardiff is a budget-friendly hotel located in the suburbs of Cardiff. It is part of the Louvre Hotels Group and offers over 900 hotels across Europe. The hotel provides en-suite rooms with various amenities including Wi-Fi, TV with satellite channels, and tea/coffee making facilities. Additionally, it features complimentary parking and a casual bar/restaurant.
I had a wonderful experience staying at the Beacon Hotel Cardiff. From the moment I arrived, the staff were welcoming, attentive, and always ready to help. The atmosphere of the hotel was warm and comfortable, making my stay really enjoyable. A special mention goes to Drulval at reception – he was incredibly polite, professional, and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. His friendliness made me feel right at home. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would definitely recommend the Beacon Hotel Cardiff to anyone looking for a pleasant and hassle-free experience. I’ll be happy to return on my next visit to the city!

Honest review intended to help. The staff are cool so I exclude them from what follows! This one is is on the owners. .....this venue should not be booked lightly. The accommodation block feels like you have been transported to the USSR in 1982 - so grim, grey and industrial -and the rooms are literally devoid of any creature comforts and I suspect would just about pass a health and safety assessment by millimetres. If you are a bricklayer working away from home you will cope. But if you are female or thinking of taking your kids there please think very carefully as I genuinely think this is not for you owing to the sheer absence of anything remotely representing comfort.
Mark M — Google review
During breakfast time, a lady who was standing at the reception of the restaurant on 14 September 2025 asked the customer (me) for their room number and, without a doubt, said out loudly that I hadn’t paid for the breakfast, but it had already been paid. After checking out the system then she read out the customer's name in public while attempting to guess their nationality . Specifically , she read out the customer's (my) name abruptly in her subjective guessed mother tongue of the customer, which was not English while the language she can speak, and then interminable communicated with the customer (me) in public in non-English. This behaviour is not only offensive towards lacking privacy but also disrespects the customer (me). Then, while the customer (me) was selecting the food , that lady kept interrupting the customer (me) in non-English and in a guiding tone to let the customer say that the stay experience was “so good“. Thereafter, something even more uncomfortable happened, in fact, on the day of check-in, I asked a young male receptionist what breakfast to be served, and he said that all/traditional British breakfast was included. However, when I went to dine, there were only a few pieces of meat, scattered bread, and some drinks. As the breakfast serving time was almost over at ten o'clock, a couple of seemingly English speakers came to dine but the staff provided them with another so-called British breakfast. Until I left the restaurant, no staff asked me if I needed it or why it was not available, but others were served except for me. Surprisingly, there is literally no breakfast price difference! So, to whom will plan or intend to stay in The Beacon Hotel, please pay your attention: if you aren’t English native speakers or you don’t look like English speakers, this distinguished odd will treat you differentiated and without privacy, without respect, without fairness, and so forth. If you would like to enjoy or experience what is mentioned above, just go for it! About room situation: I'm not sure about other rooms’ situations, but at least the toilet in the room which I was staying in, emitting a pungent odour of urine, and it's still unpleasant even with the bathroom door closed. The pong gets even stronger when it rains and constantly comes out from the cracks of the bathroom door. Plus, some particular fabrics inside the room, including clothes and bedding, especially those articles placed in the bathroom, were permeated with the reek. Today I had moved out of The Beacon Hotel, I still can smell the foul stink on my belongings since then. One-week dross in this hotel!

Room was clean, bed comfortable. Ww only stayed for one night but was very adequate for our needs. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great place for overnight stay
Terry S — Google review
I got here late on and was greated by a lovely welcoming night porter. Once he'd told me that the pre-check in I'd done online never, ever, ever comes through, he said the room still needed paying for.... It took a few minutes for him to realise it had been booked with a card which he could charge. Not swiftly enough to save me from trying to call the company who were putting me up at 2330. Anyway. Once that was taken care of, he kindly helped me carry my heavy tool box to my room, because this place doesn't have a lift. While reception looks fairly modern the rest of the place has the feel of an American motel from a 90s thriller. Getting in to the room I discovered an unvacuumed carpet, badly maintained fixtures (for example, you can see a random splash of filler in the picture of the lamp) and wooden sticks instead of spoons for the tea and coffee because obviously actual cutlery would be too luxurious. The coffee, by the way, is their own brand of instant. I didn't try it. I don't trust the cleanliness of the place enough to make a drink. One of the cups had a wierd crust around the edge. It's probably just dishwasher salt... Right? Next door have been quietly talking for hours. I can tell they're talking quietly because I can hear enough through the walls that if I wanted to I could actually make out their conversation. The mattress is soft, which I think is about over-use because it's particularly soft in one area, I assume where everyone sleeps normally. As long as you don't mind rolling into someone else's divot I guess that's fine. I went into the bathroom and honestly considered whether I'd be cleaner not washing in there. Check out my pictures of the dirty, crooked, tiling and what looks like a blood stain on the shower curtain. There are other stains and grime but I can only spend so much time photographing hotel rooms. I did use the shower in the end, opting to leave the curtain open, and was greeted by a warm trickle from the shower head. I've seen more powerful streams of drool. There's a Premier Inn just around the corner. Go there... Or if that's full get a £20 cab to the centre of town (because it's that far out of the centre) and find somewhere there. Just don't stay here. It's rubbish.
Mark C — Google review
Stayed for 1 night while in Cardiff to watch Stereophonics. I was a bit wary about this hotel after reading some of the reviews, however the room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. I asked for extra pillows and they arrived within a few minutes, the staff were very friendly and checkin was easy. Yes the room decoration is a bit tired, but overall it was good value for money considering hotels in the centre were charging £250 plus per night.

Shower didnt work in room 110. Only red hot or ice cold. Great service though. Had an issue with a booking few weeks ago and they couldn't do more to help me out even though it wasn't there issue it was a 3rd party.

A magical experience for our birthday party today. The actors who stay in character during the tour were so brilliant and taught us such a lot about life in the 1600’s. We feel so sad that this extraordinary place is closing down. A tragedy.

I got married here back in 2016 from start to finish Vicky and staff made everything as smooth as possible polite and friendly and what a beautiful day we all had to celebrate my special day. Would Highly recommend anyone to consider this outstandingly beautiful manor house for any occasion as I'm sure it will exceed any expectation. 5* all around.

This experience was exceptional. The actors who really stayed in character throughout the visit at the Manor were entertaining, professional, and a joy to watch and listen to. The Manor was outstanding with so much beauty and detail. I would highly recommend a visit here and will definitely be returning at some point.

I highly recommend this amazing manor house. The tour guides are fully in character as authentic servants of the house and they never break character. They are charming and entertaining and highly knowledgeable about every aspect of life in this grand manor house.

A big thank you to the actors who stayed in character throughout our entire visit. My grandchildren were enthralled and horrified at the same time. They brought the past to life with engaging stories and wit. A fun day out, highly recommended, we took a picnic and enjoyed it in the grounds. The sun shone down on our very happy afternoon.

What an interesting place! The Manor House staff are in period dress and speaking old English, they are very knowledgeable about the house and the local area. Nice restaurant and the food was really good. Very enjoyable visit.

Performing arts theater
Bedwas Workmen's Hall & Institute is a beloved venue that hosts a variety of events, from film screenings to dance performances. The atmosphere is described as fabulous and welcoming, with reasonable prices for snacks and drinks. However, the lack of a lift can be inconvenient for those with mobility issues. Despite this, the hall has an old-world charm that adds to its appeal. Plans to install a lift in the near future are expected to make the venue more accessible to all visitors.
I grew up in Trethomas, Bedwas workingmen's hall is a local institution It's a reminder of community, from the time where people who worked in the Navigation Colliery clubbed together to build a place of recreation and enjoyment for their families and friends Thatcher and her legacy tried to destroy what my ancestors had, but places like this are a glimmer of what society once was I'm delighted that it's still in use for entertainment for local, working class people
Aran C — Google review
The newly refurbished Hall is fantastic. Access to the upper floor with the new lift and beautifully decorated toilets. A lovely place to enjoy a variety of entertainment and community events.
Ann B — Google review
Great local venture. with multiple use rooms on the ground floor, utilized for everything from martial arts to knitting. The main concert hall needs updating especially the toilets. and the main hall has no wheel chair or pram access other than ALOT of steps
Daniel A — Google review
We attended a concert last Saturday which was very entertaining but the venue was awful. It was a very cold day and there was no heating. The hall is very run down and the only means of entry are steps into the foyer and more stairs to go into the concert hall. They are no facilities for disabled entry. How Caerphilly Council gets away with this is beyond me.
Annie W — Google review
I absolutely love this place. Went to a screening of Pride today with a Q&A from Sian James. It was a fab atmosphere. It was a fundraiser for a lift and for the centenary of the hall. I will be back many times this year. And once a lift is installed I may even volunteer as I am currently (and have been for a few years) on crutches so the stairs are a problem. Snacks & drinks extremely reasonable. Staff/Volunteers are so friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back
Amanda S — Google review
Visited here 3 times for plays put on by the dance group my daughter is part of. Nice big hall, plenty of seating, has quite an old feeling to it, whic adds to the atmosphere of the place. Not sure if there's a lift, but stairs need to be walked up to get to stage level, so worth bearing in mind if not good with or unable to use stairs. Also....seats are uncomfortable absolute nightmare trying to squish your legs in.
Craig — Google review
Went for craft fair, fair nearly closing, but good variety and friendly atmosphere

Awesome place, I have been going here all my life & it has always been a great place. I have watched my grandparents preformed and now most recently, watched my daughter in her MADD end of year concert amongst all the other gigs, concerts & events they hold through out the year. And soon they should be getting a lift installed which will increase the amount of people who can enjoy events at this amazing venue.

The Eden Centre - Caerphilly

Children's amusement center
The Eden Centre in Caerphilly is a fantastic destination for families with young children. The center offers ample space for kids to run around and play, with pre-bookable tables available for dining. There are engaging role-play areas that cater to different age groups, including a football pitch loved by older children and a well-equipped baby area. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service.
Good friendly service, reasonable prices in terms of entry, food and drinks. Offers a large space for kids to enjoy soft play and role play, with a number of different buildings for them to explore. Generous amount of seating for parents and you can even order food and drinks via their dedicated app. Facilities are always clean and the whole place is well maintained.

Had my daughter’s 4th birthday party here and I couldn’t fault it. Nothing was too much and was there to answer all of your questions. Food was delicious, kids had a fan time. We love the Eden centre for soft play but will definitely be back for more parties in the future.

This place is okay for kids to run around and have a bit of fun with their friends, the staff are also nice here and if you book parties then they are flexible. The only downside is that the heaters in the building are terrible so it gets very cold in there.

Fabulous for younger children.i have been coming here for years. Lots of area to run around plenty of pre bookable tables to sit and eat from the menu if you wish. My youngest 2yrs 5yrs old, love the role play areas, and my 8yrs loves the football pitch there. The baby area is well equipped with toys but my only complaint if any, is they all need new batteries in them!! . The staff are lovely and helpful . Free parking outside . All in all a lovely couple of hours.wpuld definitely continue to visit.

Park
Van Road Trails is a dirt jump park located near Caerphilly town, offering jumps suitable for all ages and skill levels, as well as a dual slalom track. Visitors can freely enjoy the park and even contribute to its maintenance. The area also features scenic walks through the nearby woods and fields, making it an ideal spot for dog walking. Additionally, the park boasts well-constructed jumps, including a new pump track, with ongoing developments such as a 4x track.
As well as being a dirt jump park, this area also has some great walks in the surrounding woods and fields, perfect for dog walks while visiting.
Sam W — Google review
It's ok, maybe 4/5 trails/ small closed tracks plus a down hill slalom track for side by side racing. The tracks are smaller than small but serve a purpose for those who can't travel to a big trail park, there's little whoops n birms for beginner kid level riders and massive jumps at the top for the more experienced rider. Not all the trails are rollable, so if you're going to attempt them, you'll have to fully commit or you'll be eating dirt, redbull cans, and broken glass, yup, it's not the cleanest location but it ain't a complete dive. EMTBs are well suited here as on a manual you sometimes struggle to gain momentum in such short distances. There's a pump track too
Kunta K — Google review

Very well built jumps with a new pump track. Progression further up the hill. 4x track work in progress
Luke — Google review
If you go clockwise, it's steeper. You have to cross the stream a fair few times. Apart from the end there isn't much flat footing. You will need a map as there are lots of trails and it is not obvious to complete the circular walk. Muddy for almost 60%

Caerphilly Golf Club

Golf club
Nestled just a stone's throw from the bustling town center of Caerphilly and only seven miles north of Cardiff, Caerphilly Golf Club is a charming members club that has been welcoming golfers since 1905. This picturesque venue boasts stunning views, particularly from its fairways, with the 10th hole offering an unforgettable panorama. The course itself is well-maintained and provides an enjoyable challenge for players of all skill levels.
Very beautiful place 👌
Shapoor F — Google review
This friendly members club was founded in 1905. Located within easy walking distance of Caerphilly town centre and the local Bus and Train stations and just seven miles north of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, Caerphilly Golf Club is ideally situated as a base for a golfing break in South Wales. There are few golf courses which can match the views from its fairways especially the 10th. Where else can you look out over a magnificent 13th century Norman Castle with its leaning tower that seems so close you can almost touch it.
Banner H — Google review
We attended a private party and so possibly didn't get a true representation of the venue, but the staff were friendly and the service was good. Not a huge selection of beers and wines but very reasonable prices.
Andy H — Google review
Friendly club but the layout is awful with you affectively playing a couple of the holes twice just with the tee slightly moved. Due to this 4 of the holes are played on a small concentrated area which is very frustrating as people wait creating a bottleneck. The greens could also be in better condition. There's a reason it was quiet and I can't imagine many visitors rushing back anytime soon.
Mr I — Google review
We held my sons wake here just before Christmas so not an easy event to arrange ot go through, the place is proper old school, but the staff were amazing, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would also point out the caterers they use are not cheap rubbish others use the buffet they did was outstanding. I would recommend them to anyone 👍

Fish and chips takeaway
Restaurant
New Caerphilly Fish Bar & Cafe is a highly recommended spot for fish and chips in town. Visitors have praised the excellent food, particularly the beautiful fish and Irish curry. The staff are known to be very friendly and helpful, providing a lovely dining experience with table service. The establishment is considered the best chip shop in Caerphilly, offering great chips with light batter and traditional curry sauce in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
So I was looking at reviews for a fish and chip shop in town and this got the best reviews, I thought Google is pretty good for accuracy and decided to try it out. Well we weren't disappointed at all, it was a lovely experience. The fish was fresh the batter wasn't too thick and the staff very friendly and helpful. We sat down to eat and there was table service. I ordered the fish with chips and mushy peas. My mum ordered just a cod and battered sausage. It was good quality and they have a good range of soft drinks. Also they did provide a glass of water for free. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it to others. There is a good reason why it's busy and has many many good reviews. If you found my review helpful please press like. Thank you
Jules A — Google review
Staff are lovely but I'm sorry to say the food was awful, the chips were grey and greasy and the batter on the fish was greasy and soggy. It's a big NO for me unfortunately.
Dawn P — Google review
Edit update: have gone to 1 star as thankfully I forgot I have reviewed before and was coming here regarding their £6 delivery to travel 1.4miles! Bullet dodged tonight! Sausage was barley cooked and mushy, this was a "large" chips and they put our cold bottled drinks in with the food so we have cold food and warm drinks. Very disappointed first and last time ordering from here. There are MUCH better chippies than this one in Caerphilly!
AJ — Google review
The staff were lovely. However, the fish batter is bland but the fish is cooked well. The chips were soggy and I couldn't eat them. We ordered and paid for fruity curry and jumbo sausage but all we got was a small sausage and no curry sauce. After a long week in work I was tired and hungry but I am really disappointed. I simply can't be bothered to go back and get the curry sauce.
James A — Google review
Solid little chip shop / cafe and easily the best one in Caerphilly. Great chips, the batter is as light as a feather and traditional curry sauce. The service was relaxed and welcoming too.

Alexander W — Google review
The order of food from this place is just utter poor, the first thing I'd like to point out is why on earth do I get the feeling this place has lack in food safety, picking up the battered cod, and finding a short hair under it (Could be any type of hair on the body), and the amount of oil also on the packaging is also highly annoying to see, on top there were burnt chip bits to go with it, they should have been taken out in order to show the caring fact of serving such food. I honestly wouldnt be taking up the chance of ordering here if this is the impression its given.

Fish & chips restaurant
Ship Deck in Caerphilly is a popular spot offering a variety of takeaway options including Pizza, Chinese, Indian and Thai cuisine. Visitors rave about the amazing fish and chips, with fresh fish and wonderful chips that are not oily. The Irish curry sauce comes highly recommended. Reviewers from Australia praise it as one of the best they've had worldwide. The food is highly rated for its quality and value, with some minor issues reported regarding packaging.
Great food, been here a few times, this was the chicken curry half/half rice and chip, plain sauage and savloy. Shared with the Wife both more than happy. Very good value for money too

Award winning for a reason - great chippy! Situated on the main strip in Trethomas, this has become the best in the area. Clean with great staff and options to eat outside, this is an incredible place to come for fish and chips. Much is cooked quickly to order. The fish and double cooked chips were excellent. Peas and tasty curry sauce also. The supper option comes with p3as and tartae sauce. All very well packaged. Highly rate this place and will love coming back here time after time.

Called in to get lunch on Saturday 12pm after a recommendation by my husband's colleagues. The smell was delicious from across the road. Service was quick and friendly and we were provided with comfy seating and a pager while we waited for ours to be cooked fresh! Cod and chips was delicious, will certainly go back soon!
Clare E — Google review
Unfortunately it seems that this once quality fish and chip shop has bought into its own hype and awards and has taken its eye off the ball. I entered the shop which was empty but had a hot plate full of food, a bit of a concern. The attitude from the young lad serving made me feel a bit like I was disturbing his conversation with his co-workers. He wasn’t rude but wasn’t very friendly either. I ordered a battered sausage, fish cake and chips. The fish cake was okay, I had one from here previously and it was maybe the best one I’ve ever had, this one looked similar but was closer to being a potato cake than a fish cake, very little fish in there and was cold in the middle. The Sausage was inedible. The batter was so hard I nearly cracked my tooth I tried to peel it off and I couldn’t, it was glued to sausage, I broke/smashed a bit off but the sausage was so dry and chewy I gave up. The chips themselves were somewhat limp and mushy on the inside yet chewy on the outside. I would say they weee bordering on stale and had most certainly been sitting for a while. Adding to this the top layer of chips had so much salt and vinegar poured on them they were vile. This sums up the lack of care that seems to have crept into the shop. This shop 6 months ago was always packed with queues outside the door, I have visited every 4-5 weeks since and have seen a steady decline and after throwing away 70% of this food I will not be returning. A real shame.

Absolutely delicious fish and chips! ♥️ A huge portion of cod with lightly crispy batter and beautifully-cooked chips with a hint of crispness at the edges! Will definitely use again as I would love to try the haddock next time 🤗 (Tried a chip shop in Caerphilly last week with the same ratings: Rubbery chips, very small potion of cod with uncooked slimy batter containing bones!! No comparison to Ship Deck xx Thank you 🤗🤗
Wendy P — Google review
Moved to the Cardiff area 10 years ago, and its taken all that time to find a chippy as nice (if not nicer) than my old local in Pembrokeshire. After discovering the Ship Deck I now often travel a 40 minute round trip. Well worth the journey !
Daniel W — Google review
Ship Deck is always our 1st choice whenever we fancy fish & chips. Normally the quality of the fish is excellent. Until today. We ordered 2 portions of fish and 1 of chips unfortunately the fish portions were very poor. As soon as I opened the boxes I could tell they were mainly batter and not much fish (as you can see in the photos). I am hoping this is a one off otherwise we will have to choose a different fish shop for our takeaways in future.
Joanne E — Google review
Let down by Ship Deck again. Undoubtedly great fish and chips, but arrived at 8.45 to be to be told they are closing early and have no food, despite their door stating they close at 9. This is the third time it’s happened - just wish they’d have the capability to sell food during the times they say they’re open - it would save the disappointing experiences from what is otherwise a great fish and chip shop. Update following reply from owner: Just checked Google - opening times still say 9pm. I didn’t see any other signage and person in the store didn’t refer to any amended opening times when I was looking at the door - just said he’d decided to close early because it was too hot. Also, as mentioned, not a one off - has happened to me twice previously.

Fast food restaurant
KFC Caerphilly - Cross Way Retail Park is a popular restaurant chain offering delicious fried chicken, combo meals, and various sides. With 72 locations in Caerphilly, including the one at Cross Way Retail Park, it's a convenient option for those craving some tasty fast food. The restaurant is known for its efficient service and friendly staff who ensure that orders are ready on time and brought out to customers with a smile.
I will rarely ever make a review, so I would like to grace KFC with my humble opinion. I ordered multiple delectable bites and I’ll start with the hotwing bucket. The powerful unholy kick of its savoury secrets held me breathless over my plastic tray, gripping my table and panting I reached into the depths of the bucket for more irresistible crispy wings. I also had a Zinger Tower Burger and towered it was. I gazed upwards at this masterfully stacked work of art. Gods hands are directly responsible for this creation. I enjoyed the corn it was on a stick! Would you believe that? The flavour I can only describe as a neutron star exploding its steamy warmth into my mouth, a cosmic creation that only immortal beings should handle. Not me though, I have gazed upon perfection today and I simply cannot feel comfortable eating another meal now knowing what awaits me at Kentucky Fried Chicken. 10/10 service and I’ve recommended this store to all my uncles.

What the heck is that? Payed for extra cheese - at first they forgot to put it as well as all other ingredients, lol, then - they just stuffed it and gave this cold sad demolished burger. I mean… it’s below zero Get your staff trained and probably hire more members, so I wouldn’t have to stand near deserted counter. Outrageous

Manager (Brad) asked me to takeout food at 10.15pm when im going to order food still we want to eatin. KFC closing 11pm and they not given permission to eat there. Unhappy about customercare .
Amila G — Google review
Ordered our food on the machine, it was quick in all honesty, chips were warm at best and very salty to the point they couldn't be all eaten, we both had coke, when we tasted the coke it was room/warm, coke is to be drunk ice cold. Took it back to the counter and was just told by a teenager that the air conditioner had gone down, plus there was no ice as that wasn't working either. We were offered fruit shoot or bottle of warm ish water. We declined, the young man had an attitude and didn't have a clue what customer service was, he then went to speak to his manager who came out and we suggested they let customers know or put a sign up that the drinks were not chilled .." can't do that as we need KFC approval". We then asked could we have a bottle of coke which was in the fridge, " can't do that as it comes of our base price" the female manager then did eventually give us a bottle of coke. What a shambles you are KFC. Your customer service is shocking from bottom to top. Another customer lost. What a waste of £25.00 ..

First time at this KFC in Caerphilly. There is a drive through but I went in to the restaurant. There are menu/payment kiosks immediately as you go in. All orders have to be done using these, even if you're paying cash (which you then take to the counter with your receipt). There's a loyalty card scheme which gives you offers if you go to KFC often enough. The place was clean and had plenty of seating. The food was fresh & hot.

Disgusting hygiene, floors, walls, seats and tables a complete disgrace, absolutely filthy. Staff looked like zombies, no chicken on the bone, half the order missing, bins out of order. Hope my family don't get food poisoning. Definitely will not be returning

We ordered food for the team at work. Ordered this in advance in the day and was ready bang on when they said it would be. Food was great, hot and as you expect it. Staff were friendly and carried it out to the car.

Wow - what a fantastic place to visit in Caerphilly. We came for the Christmas event - The Upbeat Beatles. We were all blown away from start to finish We were warmly greeted before we even stepped into the restaurant by stunning, beautiful and elegant Christmas decorations and lighting. The staff were brilliant, they couldn’t do enough for us, so polite and friendly. The food was second to none, totally delicious, so mouthwatering and the presentation was first class - so compliments to the chefs. Then the entertainment- Wow, double Wow -the Upbeat Beatles, they were absolutely amazing. Thank you Martin for going to great lengths to bring these guys to your venue, it was a fabulous experience and hopefully we’ll see them again here next Christmas. X

Visited for a bridal shower afternoon tea, followed by cocktails. Very attentive and friendly staff, delicious food and drinks. Cocktails were interesting, fun and very reasonable too. They even added a sparkler in one for the bride. Thank you to the team and especially Kal. See you again soon.

Came for Sunday Lunch, nice to see a veggie wellington option with all the trimmings, food was delicious, the sharing platter of cauli-cheese & veg was really tasty, helpful staff & a lovely venue, a great addition to Caerphilly!. Not cheap, but perfect for a special occasion. Parking limited but we managed to park in the train station car park which was free on a Sunday.

Overall the best restaurant I've been to in years, the lady at the front of house was beautiful charming and friendly. The venue was immaculate....... but the food oh my word, best meal I have ever had in my life, and if you have desert try the sticky toffee pudding amazing!! Overall id give this place a 10/10, 100% will be coming back.

I came for the bonkers bingo - it was really good! For £49pp you get a 3-course meal, 90 minutes of bottomless drinks, and a bingo lingo type event. The host was great and the music was really good, everyone was up dancing the whole time. The event runs from 12pm-4pm and I’d highly recommend it. The food was gorgeous too, which I didn’t really expect because it was an event. Our only gripe was the bottomless drinks were a little slow to be served and some tables seemed to be on their 4th drink while we were on our 1st. A member of our party had a chat with the manager who was quick to rectify the situation and we did get served more after that, but maybe a few more staff members would have helped matters, or some better organisation of who was dealing with each table.

Lovely, fancy but not pretentious. Friendly & quick service. I thought the starters, beef croquettes and celeriac veloute, and the Ice Apple parfait desert were exceptional.

Banging as always, been here many times. The kitchen knows what they’re doing, big up the chefs Rhys and Steve. Service compares, the manager Kal kept my glass full all night

Good evening, I just wanted to send a huge thank you for making yesterday so special for my sister’s hen. From start to finish you were all amazing. Breakfast in the rose garden in Rosita’s was perfect, bonkers bingo was as epic as ever in Ten Degrees and our night was finished off in the VIP Room with karaoke. The food was delicious throughout, the service amazing and the drinks fabulous. Couldn’t fault a thing and would highly recommend you for the best place for hen party fun. There really is no need to leave Caerphilly. Thank you again 🙏

Our daughter was doing fortnightly lessons here on a saturday morning. At first, she loved it & we were happy customers. On the 4th or 5th lesson, my daughter was in tears when i picked her up as she had done nothing but ride in circles & been shouted at like no 12 year old should. Organization is generally bad, sometimes the lesson would start 10am prompt but other weeks they would be standing round for 20+ minutes in the freezing cold, waiting for a staff member to turn up, then get no apology or anything! Unfortunately this ruined the mostly good lessons we received by Bradley until he left, we now know why After going there for about 4 months, we had to go away for a weekend. We explained this after the last lesson when we would normally book & pay for the next one & asked if we could call to book as funds were tight. We were angrily told that this wasn't acceptable, they may be fully booked & that it might be best if we left it as this wasn't working?! But ring & they would see what they could do. When we tried to book again the owner had a disgusting attitude. She did not answer or return our calls & was quite frankly rude & arrogant when she did! The other reviews are correct about the potholes in the car park, never affected us as we always went in a high vehicle - clearly health & safety isn't taken seriously there, i dread to think what would happen if someone got hurt! Overall - A nice place, unfortunately let down by the owner! I guess thats why Bradley left!

Been coming here for a while. I appreciate it's a working farm but the entrance road for customers is dreadful and getting worse for pot holes and uneven surface for paying customers cars potentially causing car damage every week, week on week. Plus the booking and paying system is ancient with no online facility. It's 2025 😂

First time visiting. All staff members extremely rude to myself and my teammates. They took over 30 mins to put a course up 2 holes each which caused the starting time be late then expecting us to be on at our set time despite their mess up!! Girls had no longer than a 2 minute warm up or they weren’t allowed to jump. Definitely won’t ever be returning - won’t ever recommend. Very unfriendly & unpleasant place to be competing

Situated near the town center car park, the café offers one of the best views of Caerphilly Castle. With indoor and outdoor seating, it provides a clean and well-maintained space with friendly staff.
Just popped in for a look. Lots of well crafted local artwork. I bought some glass pieces with a Welsh Dragon on them. The lady there is knowledgeable. It's across from the front of the castle just up from the War Memorial. Make a visit there.

The Safari tent provides amazing views of Wales and is well-equipped with modern amenities such as a two-ring hob, fridge, shower, and flushing toilet. The cozy box bed with twinkly lights was a hit with the children. Guests can unwind in the hot tub while enjoying beautiful sunset views over the pond.
An amazing family adventure in our Safari tent. The views over Wales were fantastic with our neighbour cows providing lots of entertainment for the week. The accommodation was well presented and clean. The children loved, loved, loved the box bed with its twinkly lights. Out tent and hot tub looked out over the pond and the children enjoyed making the different fires. Such a great family holiday to unwind. Certainly worth the money for a tranquil break in a beautiful country.

Incredible place. Each unit is private enough to feel like you have your own space but still near enough that you don’t feel completely isolated. The lodge was immaculate with so many lovely little homely touches. I slept like a baby in the comfortable bed with only the birds and the trees for background noise. We will definitely be returning, we didn’t want to leave!!

We had the most amazing magical stay in Cartref! It was the perfect stay for our little family. It is sooo pet friendly, our dog gets very anxious in new surroundings but he settled in instantly! We loved everything about it: the bed was amazingly comfy, the breakfast hamper was gorgeous, the surrounding were beautiful and the hot tub was the perfect touch. Great value for money, amazing family run business and amazing location! We will definitely be returning soon, couldn’t recommend enough!!

We had the most wonderful stay at Under the Oak Glamping – everything was just perfect from start to finish. The cabin was spotless and beautifully clean, which instantly made us feel at ease. The bed was so comfy and cosy – we slept like logs each night! One of the absolute highlights was the lovely hot tub – soaking in it under the stars was such a treat. Inside, the fireplace made the cabin feel warm and homely, especially in the evenings when we curled up with a hot drink. Speaking of drinks – we were pleasantly surprised to find tea bags, coffee, and hot chocolate waiting for us, along with a full set of pots, pans, and cutlery in the kitchen area. Everything had been thoughtfully provided. The shower was warm and powerful, a real bonus for a glamping spot. We also loved the honesty shop – such a sweet touch – and picked up a pack of playing cards, which added to our relaxing time unplugged from the world. All in all, an incredible experience in a beautiful setting. We’ll definitely be back! 🌿💚

We absolutely loved our stay at under the oak Glamping. We stayed in the newest six person tent. The views were spectacular. The tent is situated on its own so very private and only a short walk from the main farmhouse. The hot tub was fab. The tent is very well equipped and the three bedrooms all very comfortable. My children were fighting to stay in the cupboard bed! The bathroom is very nice. Lydia and Richard were so welcoming and very helpful when teaching us how to heat the hot tub. There had been a calf born whilst we were there and Richard kindly let us see her. There is lots to see and do in the area. We went out to the Gower peninsular one day. Up to the Brecon beacons on another, and to Big Pit on a rainy morning. I would certainly recommend this to all types of groups, we will certainly be returning!

Incredible. Amazing value for money. The tent was incredible, containing a 2 ring hob, fridge, adorable bed, shower and flushing toilet!!! To be honest it didn’t feel like a tent at all it was so amazing. I personally loved the wood burner in the centre of the tent, kept us warm at night and was so relaxing. My favourite moment of the whole trip was an evening watching the sunset in the hot tub it was so special and amazing. Something I will remember forever. Great to get away from everything, no TV and no WiFi which me and my wife loved to be honest. I woke up to the sounds of ducks every morning and fell asleep to an owl, honestly incredible. Hosts were great and very helpful, the honesty shop was a lovely addition to the whole site and did come in handy. Me and my friends loved it and me and my wife are deffo thinking about coming again. Thank you for the once in a lifetime holiday!
Lucy S — Google review
We had a fantastic weekend here in September. The safari tent is super cool and comfy - loved the little wood burner and nest bed. Views from the hill are amazing. We loved cooking over the fire pit and soaking in the hot tub after a day walking the local countryside.
Paul B — Google review
We had a great weekend, we’d gone for my Dad’s 70th. The tents are lovely and well kitted out, keeping us all cosy and warm during the day and night. It’s a great environment to get away from it all, yet close enough to shops and amenities to go out if forget anything. There’s a wee shop where you park your cars where you can get welsh produce, and extra fire lighters and kindling! A requirement if you’re trying to heat hot tub.

Costa Coffee is a coffee chain that offers a variety of hot beverages, refreshing iced drinks, tasty snacks, and sandwiches. However, some customers were disappointed to discover that the shop closed at 5 pm, causing them to rush through their orders. The presence of many unclean tables was also observed despite the quiet atmosphere. On the positive side, Costa Coffee provides a pleasant environment for enjoying coffee or hot chocolate and relaxing.
Excellent coffee only wish it was served in a proper cup rather than a paper cup

A fairly standard Costa. Service seemed quite slow and the sofa is quite spectacularly stained. Not quite sure what people have been up to on it... Still, when the three year old is insisting on a drink it's almost always open and warm.

What a dreadful experience! Despite it being less than two weeks from Christmas, this store had less atmosphere and Christmas cheer than Marley & Scrooge's office on Christmas Eve. The place is completely undecorated with less than two weeks to go to Christmas! The barista had a face like thunder when I told her she got my drink wrong. Tables were uncleared or the customers were having to clear them. The franchisee is obviously more interested in profit than anything else. Take a leaf from the Aberdare and Cwmbran stores!

A family gathering took place at Fishermans Rest Inn, where 16 people enjoyed a Sunday Lunch. The conservatory area was set up with three tables, and the attentive waiter took drink orders before moving on to food choices like Chicken, Lamb, Beef, and Pork. Some guests opted for the delicious combination of lamb and pork. All dishes were served simultaneously along with generous portions of vegetables and individual jugs of gravy. The desserts that followed included a fabulous Biscoff cheesecake.
Visited here again last night for food and a few cocktails and had a fabulous evening. Josh and his team are so friendly and work very hard to make sure you have a brilliant time. The food is oustanding with huge portions, super tasty and brilliant quality. The cocktails were also a nice surprise. There's plenty of choice on the menu to suit everyone. Highly recommend. We went for a Sunday roast and unfortunately it wasn't anything to rave about, the meat was a bit lack luster, veg was watery and cold, the cauliflower cheese was cold cauliflower submerged in a cheap watery cheese sauce and left us all hungry - not usually the outcome after a Sunday roast! The saving grace was the dessert options. I had the Chocolate Fudge Cake and others tried their various cheesecakes - these were great and a welcome treat after the dinner. The staff were nice and accommodating though not as warm as it was in the past - could've been better. I enjoyed it enough to go again and to try their other food options though!

Been here a few times over the years and it's always been very nice fairplay. Nice pub grub

Me and partner went for a drive over Caerphilly and came across this beautiful pub, we called in for food and a couple of drinks... the food was lovely especially their chips, they are beautifully cooked. We had a pleasant afternoon enjoying some time together without the kids. We highly recommend and are already looking forward to going back again. Even the staff was friendly . Oh and the pink gin is a must , one did over indulge 😂

A group of 7 ladies we went to celebrate our friends birthday. It took 45 minutes to get our order in. Some had starters which to be fair were lovely although our birthday lady's order was completely forgotten. We asked for our mains to be brought when they finally brought the forgotten starter. We had a mixture of Sunday lunches and food from the menu. It took ages again to receive our mains. The young man who took our order even wrote down all our peculiarities (and there was some). However, I have to say the mains was a let down, I order hunters chicken and sweet potato chips, my chips came out with fish bites. This was changed. I liked the peppercorns under the bacon but some people won't like this unexpected hit. One of our party ordered just chicken and the tureen vegetables but was given potatoes and Yorkshire pud which she specifically stated she didn't want. The meat was tough and the roast potatoes were not roasted or cooked in the middle. We asked for them to be changed which they were, with nicely brown cooked potatoes. Some of us had dessert and I have to say they were amazing and well presented. We noted that several diners had arrived after us and had been served and eaten well after us, one table even had two sets of diners eat and leave before we got our mains. Something clearly went in communication here as there was loads of staff and as I said the young man who took our order, eventually, wrote everything down to his credit. We are not as fussy as this seems, we like good wholesome cooked food. We noted the fresh new look of the place since being flooded. But hope the service,/main course issues can be ironed out.

Had rainbow trout. Was gorgeous! Friendly staff, quick service. Chef made sure our expectations were met. Toilets were nice and clean. Recommend!

I visit this pub occasionally. The service is OK, to be expected. The general feel of the place is poor. The carpets could do with a really good clean. The toilet areas are the worst I have seen for a long time. The hand drier has thrown enough water onto the radiator beneath to rust the cover. Generally poor.

Nestled in the heart of Caerphilly, The Church House Inn is a delightful British pub that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Renowned for its top-notch cuisine and friendly service, this establishment has garnered praise from locals and visitors alike. Guests rave about the inviting atmosphere, where attentive staff ensure every meal is served with a smile.
We come to this beautiful venue a few times year, we have never been failed in any aspect of our meals, the bar staff are so helpful and the service is always swift. We enjoyed another meal tonight where we both had the black rock grills. Because that's our favourite. However we have also had multiple family birthdays also. I can't recommend this place enough and for what you get the price isn't to expensive! Cheesy garlic bread is an absolute must as a side and the fish is also the size of a bat! Lovely people, lovely place.

Had a Birthday Meal on Saturday, the food was below par although my partner had a mixed grill and thoroughly enjoyed. The start was being served the wrong starter and although the waitress took it away and ordered the correct one then came back with original and said we’d still have to pay for it!! My daughter and I both had racks of ribs which weren’t very hot, the onion rings were soggy and pale, the chips (I think) had been reheated in hot oil and the garlic bread was soggy. All in all Rubbish for £108. The staff were great and very friendly, it was the cooks last shift the next day, (which is why he obviously couldn’t be bothered) and the woman on the table next to us was well oiled and didn’t come up for air. We had had many great meals delivered during lockdown but certainly wouldn’t recommend now 😔

First time I've been there for years, and what a great pub it is! First class beer, top quality food, and exceptionally friendly and professional staff! Excellent all round, Cheers!! Update - I've been going there for a few years now, and I still think this place is fantastic! The staff are always lovely, and the food has always been tremendous. Brilliant pub and a beautiful view from the beer garden, just tops off this magnificent pub

First time visiting and sadly the food was so disappointing which was a shame due to us celebrating a birthday. There was no drinks menu. The starters were lovely however took approx 30 minutes to arrive. 3 out of 4 of the main meals were a let down. The one that was tasty was the mixed grill. The disappointing ones were - Salmon in a cream sauce: The sauce filled up half the plate it was starting to make me feel sick. Gammon Steak: Chewy. Steak: Asked for medium rare and a whole chuck of it was rare and the fat was so tough it was hard to cut through. I would say this was one of the worst meals I have had in a long time. The main meals were priced at around £17 plus which for the the quality of food is definitely well overpriced. No-one came to check on us to ask if the food was all ok. At the end I did complain to the waitress which is something I have never done and she did take all the drinks off the bill. However, I still paid just under £100 for food that wasn't up to scratch baring in my mind that price included no dessert. The staff were lovely. There was free parking.

Family meal I read the previous review from Hannah and was very surprised. We also visited 2 days ago - family of 8. We booked here after reading the great reviews -our first visit, I had no problem ringing up and reserving our table. We found the staff were fantastic, it was an extremely busy Friday evening but as soon as we stepped through the door we were greeted very warmly by Ellen and shown immediately to our table, she was so attentive and friendly. Two members of our family were running 1/2 hour late and the staff were fantastic about it we weren't rushed in any way. The food is all home cooked and delicious, well plated and good portions sizes. The menu selection is vast, even a smaller appetite menu, people don’t realise that this makes it extremely difficult for the chefs having to order in all these ingredients , prep and cook for such a large menu choice- so credit to the chefs and kitchen team, they work very hard!! My omelette I chose was so yummy it was totally delicious, we all agreed how nice the food was. My favourite dessert was on the menu so I was well pleased - biscoff cheesecake - Mmmm….delicious😋😋 It was a fantastic night, I can’t fault the staff at all, they were all very attentive. It’s a lovely place to visit and we will be definitely returning. ****

The food is great value for money and always tasty. I have marked it down one because the beer had to go back but the person behind the bar did pour me. Adiffeent pint. Worth a visit.

Faultless everytime I visit which is at least once a week, usually for a spot of lunch. Generally I'm a fan of the Sandwich / Baguettes and the Smaller Plates menus, good selection and portions are extremely generous and of excellent value.
Rhodri W — Google review
Booked a table earlier in the week and asked if dog friendly I was told yes I did mention she was a large dog which I was told was fine but when we arrived we were told to try and sit her under the table so therefore we went and sat in the garden noise level very loud considering it was a dining area food last week and this week I had my dinner on a chipped plate which I mentioned to bar staff last week and to waitress this week plate was not changed I feel as though a chip in the plate is unacceptable therefore I would not return as I wouldn’t eat off a chipped plate at home
