The Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor, also known as the Collegiate Church of St. Mary Major, is a stunning Romanesque church located in Toro. Its warm sandstone structure and intricate design are reminiscent of Zamora's cathedral, reflecting the architectural style of eight centuries ago. The recent restoration of its facade and entrance portico has enhanced its beauty, making it a captivating sight both day and night.
Beautiful Romanesque collegiate church whose facade has been recently restored as well as the entrance portico. Worth the look both daylight and night with the cute illumination. Inside stands out an unusual sculpture of a Pregnant Virgin. It also deserves the visit, the Magesty Portico with its original polychromy, a little museum and the painting 'La Virgen de la Mosca'.

A fascinating place where unique things have travelled in time and allow us to have a glimpse at them. It shows how different medieval churches where from what we can see now, and how vibrating that society was. A must see.

Church
The Church of San Salvador de Los Caballeros is a stunning example of Romanesque-Mudejar architecture, originally constructed in the early 13th century by Templar monks. After the order's dissolution, it transitioned into a parish church and served the local community for centuries. However, by 1896, its function changed and it fell into disrepair.
A small but beautiful church in the Mudejar architectural style. The inside is a small display of religious sculptures. When I arrived the lady in charge was about to leave but when she saw me she kindly asked me if I wanted to look inside. She re-opened the place for me and thanks to her I was able to have a good look insde.

Nestled in the charming town of Toro, Zamora, the Puerta de la Corredera stands as a stunning historical monument that dates back to 1602. This impressive gate was part of the city's third walled enclosure and was constructed not for defense but to honor King Felipe III of Spain and Portugal. Its design is reminiscent of a Roman triumphal arch, thanks to the vision of diplomat Don Garcia de Silva y Figueroa.

It was built for aesthetic, not defensive purposes, in honor of King Felipe III of Spain and Portugal (1598-1621), to "resemblance" to a Roman triumphal arch, dedicated by the diplomat and extreme explorer Don García de Silva y Figueroa (1548). -1624), then discoverer of ancient Persepolis and ambassador to Persia (1614-24), who by this time was corrector of Bull (1601-04). Above large saddles is formed a half-pointed arch supporting a triangular pediment with the imperial coat of arms and inscriptions topped by three balls. Great tour, lovely cheese! Would be good to see the company practising what they preach about recycling. Don't understand why they don't use compostable cups and biodegradable plastic bags.

Wonderful tour! We went with two young kids and Jose made sure to include them and keep them interested. We learned a lot about cheese and the Chillon family who started the business in the 19th century (Jose's family). The tasting was especially fun and the cheese and Toro wines are both delicious. It's definitely worth a stop if you are staying in the region or passing through.

(Translated by Google) It was my first time seeing how a cheese factory works, and it was a truly wonderful experience. The story of the Chillón family is very moving. At Queserías Chillón, you can visit their museum (with a guided tour) and try six of their cheeses and other products in a tasting for only 5 euros. You must book well in advance, and they must confirm they have a group to take part in the tour. In their museum, they house tools, letters, and photos of how the company started and how it grew over the years. The lady's explanation was very clear, and she was happy to answer any questions I had. The tasting was brilliant; all six of the cheeses were excellent, plus three pieces of cured meat and two emulsions, one Chillón with Honey and another Chillón Picante. All of this was accompanied by a glass of wine. By visiting, you can purchase their products at a reduced price, 30/40 or even 50% off some of their packs and products. For 6 euros, you can have your purchase shipped to your home. I really wanted to see the factory (although it's complicated, due to diseases that can be transmitted between food and humans, and between humans and food). I also think groups should be limited to a maximum of 12 people; the museum's hallway is quite narrow, and with a lot of people, you can't see everything (and the information provided in the images is very interesting).

The tour at Bodegas Fariña was exceptional, with an exceptional guide. For just 15 euros, you can sample any five wines of your choice, and the guide's enthusiasm for the wines led her to try three additional ones. It was one of the finest tastings I have experienced, and I've been to numerous wineries. The visit and wine tasting were thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to Nieves' interesting and enjoyable explanations.
What an amazing visit hosted by Manuel Farina!! We learned about this wonderful winery and its past as well as the history of wine making in area around Toro! We enjoyed tasting several delicious Tinto de Toro wines! Worth a day trip from Zamora!!

(Translated by Google) I really wanted to visit the winery, and on a short trip to Toro, we finally did. But I was quite disappointed. We did the tasting of five wines for €23, followed by a tour of the winery and museum. It was good. Andrea, the guide, was quite nice and explained things well, although she often used very basic terms. She said, "Well, I'll bore you if I say very technical things," when clearly, judging by the questions other visitors asked, they were wine experts. The worst part for me was the tasting itself. It's the first time in many years that I've done tastings standing up. The last time, years ago, I felt like it was meant to finish faster, and it was the same here. Also, the table was low and uncomfortable. If you have to do it standing up, which I'll never understand, at least it was a bit more comfortable so you can rest your arms. The guide spoke to one table and we couldn't understand anything at the other, and vice versa. I would try another winery somewhere else, but Fariña disappointed me.

Bar Restaurante El Rey de la Sepia is a delightful culinary stop that offers an exquisite daily menu at an unbeatable price, making it a must-visit for anyone passing through Toro. Guests rave about the cleanliness of the establishment and the efficiency of the friendly staff, who are always ready to provide attentive service. The menu features home-cooked dishes that evoke nostalgia, with highlights including delicious soups and hearty main courses like fabada and chickpeas.
(Translated by Google) We were attracted by the sign at the entrance "cooked today". Once we entered and asked for a table for two, the waitress told us that the menu of the day was cooked. There was no doubt that it was what we were going to eat. The delicious soup, with a taste of home and other times where it was cooked with love and for your loved ones. The main dish, good. Meats and vegetables vary according to the taste of those who cook them and there is little to say. But the chickpeas... The chickpeas were on another level, with all the flavor of the broth and the perfect cooking point. To finish, the homemade egg flan once again reminded me of years gone by. Without going overboard with the caramel, and making the flan itself the star of the dessert. A luxury for 14 euros.

Volveremos, seguro

(Translated by Google) Despite the good treatment of the staff, and the speed in serving, we would not repeat. It is a restaurant to eat, if you are in a hurry. They only offered us two menus of the day, one simpler and another more festive. We chose the one with the theoretically better quality and higher price, because it had lamb, which was what had tempted us, but it was hard and not at all juicy or tasty. Neither does the first course. The dessert looked like a typical supermarket cake. The decoration is more similar to that of an event room than a traditional restaurant. But it doesn't matter if everything is tasty. I must reiterate that the treatment of the staff was excellent at all times.

The restaurant was very clean but it needs a facelift to be able to compete with any of the ones in Toro (old fashioned, old chairs, etc.). (Translated by Google) Terrible value for money. A menu that says absolutely nothing about the place you're in. No variety, no menu. The facilities consist of a room with no decor, vulgar furniture, and no bar for drinks. The food quality is low. They sell chewy steaks as Iberian sirloin, which you don't need to taste to know they're cheap. The garnishes on the dishes are like the style: nonexistent. We had a very bad, very bad culinary experience in Toro in the middle of the medieval fair.

I like this location more than the rooms, but it's not a luxury hotel. Each room has their AC controlled by the desk, if you can't get your room cool, just ask the desk. Has a great view and restaurant and bar in the basement with a patio. Conveniently located near an old cathedral and near the center of town where you'll find plenty of independent shops, restaurants, and of course history! I would stay here again.

This hotel is full of charm and character. It's location is perfect offering a panoramic view out over the Duero plain. My only gripe is that the beds are tiny. I'm 1.78m and my feet were hanging off the bottom of the mattress. The rooms above the terrace bar have to endure the noise and music until after midnight.

Touring on a motorcycle and this was our first stop, arrived around 5pm to find the restaurant advertised was not open. We then had to search around for somewhere to eat, tea and coffee facility in the room was missing. They rectified this leaving one coffee pod each, you need to be relatively fluent in Spanish as basic language makes being understood very difficult. Great views and historic buildings with good local bars, learn your Spanish and you'll enjoy.

We weren't sure if we were at the right place because there were no shop signage. Luckily after ringing the doorbell, the owner Leonardo opened the door for us. He graciously showed us his beautifully renovated wine celler and let us try some of his wine. The wine is well balanced and delicious right out of the cellar. They produce only red and white aged in French or American oak. His 2014 vintage got a 90 point rating from Robert Parker.

Nestled in the charming town of Zamora, the Bodega Histórica del Vino de Toro offers a delightful glimpse into the region's rich winemaking heritage. During my visit, I was fortunate to join a guided tour led by Ton from the local city hall. Despite being no longer operational, this historic winery provides an insightful look at traditional wine production methods and local customs. The guide’s engaging explanations made it easy to grasp the fascinating process behind each bottle of wine.
An incredible discovery a wine museum with so much history to tell about the wines from Toro and its wineries. Maite helped to explain how wine was made using traditional wine presses first introduced by the Greeks and Romans. She also advised we buy a ticket to enter the Bull Ring and what other sights to visit on route to this. All this for a combined total of 3€. Thank you Maite for the great service. I helped move the location of this gem on Google Maps so it's now accurate to hopefully facilitate that more people will visit it!

This charming eatery offers a delightful array of homemade dishes that are bursting with flavor, showcasing the talent of its skilled chefs. The food was DELICIOUS! The service was impeccable and Letizia, our waitress, was lovely! Definitely recommend it

Ate here twice while on holiday. The owner was very attentive and took time to explain the menu and recommended a cracking bottle of wine to go with it (Yaiza dry white - local wine - worth a trip to the bodega itself). Food was great both times - the squid, house salad, stuffed mushrooms and fried cheese with sweet potatoe jam in particular. Busy place and great to see some local folk eating there too. Tapas menu was extensive with something for everyone. Thanks for 2 great nights. Will be visiting again next time we're in Lanzarote. Muchas gracias. Nik

We ate here with our two sons (ages 11 and 13) and agree that this was one of the best meals we have ever had. The menu is somewhat fixed (3 HUGE appetizers to share), choice of 4 entrees, and dessert (and a bottle of wine), but everything was delicious. The appetizers we had were a truly fabulous octopus salad, peppers stuffed with cod in the most scrumptious sauce I have ever tasted, and shrimp with rice (excellent). Three of us had the rabo de toro entree (delicious) and one person had the fish (also wonderful). Our waitress was absolutely delightful. We paid 20 euro/person - a meal of this quality in the U.S. would easily be $80/person. It was worth the trip to Toro just to eat at this restaurant. The restaurant appears to only be open for lunch, and it is worth planning your schedule for the day so you can eat here. Do not miss the opportunity to eat at this restaurant!!

You must eat here! The food is really delicious and creative with flavors and presentation. The decoration is clean and in harmony with the visit of Toro. The service is "muy simpático" super friendly. We had the menu of 20€/each and it was three shared appetizers, not small! And the ox tail. They served us water and wine (theirs); a delicious Toro red wine, dessert, and coffee all included. Ah and they offered a"chupito" of herb liquor (Orujo de Hierbas) at the end.

(Translated by Google) Simply 10! Starting with the welcome from the waitress who served us, who was attentive to detail at all times and aware of possible allergies. Continuing with the food, a traditional stewed meal with an incredible taste (if I had to choose, rice and stewed oxtail) accompanied by two wines, one of which is true that we liked more than the other (we bought because they are from their winery). And ending with a delicious dessert to put a good ending to such a feast! Thank you for letting us enjoy this tasting of typical dishes. (Original) Simplemente 10!

From the moment you walk in, you notice the special care taken in the decor and every detail of the interior, creating a warm and pleasant atmosphere. The space is quite spacious and has several well-spaced tables, allowing you to eat comfortably and without feeling overwhelmed. They offer a set tasting menu for €25 per person, a more than attractive proposition given the quality and quantity they offer. They also collaborate with a winery, so as part of the experience, they offer you the opportunity to try two carefully selected wines. Each one is presented with a brief explanation to better appreciate its nuances. The menu itself is a true delight. Each dish surprises with its flavor and presentation, and you can tell they use fresh, top-quality ingredients. The portions are generous, so it's easy to leave fully satisfied. To top it off, they serve irresistible homemade custard, creamy and with a flavor reminiscent of tradition. Special mention should be made of the service we received: the lady who served us was charming, always friendly, approachable, and willing to explain every detail of the menu and wines, making the dining experience complete and memorable.

(Translated by Google) The restaurant offers a five-course sharing menu, accompanied by two bottles of wine from its own winery (D.O. Toro), and I must say both wines were delightful. The quality of the food is quite good, except for one dish, which is simply fried eggs with chips 🍳🍟 😅. But what truly remains in your heart is the service. The staff is very attentive and makes you feel right at home ❤️. I would definitely recommend this place with my eyes closed. We had 3 suggestions for lunch in Toro, luckly the other 2 restaurants were closed that day!! After our lunch we were sure that perhaps we have eaten in the best place in Toro! The space (the room), the food and the possible choices, presentation of the dishes, the service, were amazing, the wine list interesting with good choices, fair prices... we finished lunch refreshed and very satisfied.

Happened upon this restaurant on a long journey from Santander to Cadiz, and what a delight it was! An interesting menu, exceptional food and friendly service. And being so close to the Duero the tinto was exquisite. Well worth a short detour off the autovía to the pretty little town of Toro, just for this restaurant. We will return.

good food.fresh salad and nice presentation but the service was terrible!!!we been waiting 15 min for the menu and when we asked for they told us: we only have 1 at the moment😳😳😳. after lunch (we recommended Lechazo, very good) the plate with the bones still on the table for about 20 min without nobody coming to clean it.no dessert or coffe offered and the check wasent cheap.again the food was good but they really need to change the service.forgot to mention...they charge for bread which is normal in Spain but mostly of the restaurant gave the entire bread or a nice portion of them.here you got 1 piece only and its 1.50 each so basically you paying 3 euros for 2 small pieces of bread.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent place. We made a reservation on a Monday morning, and by 3 p.m. we were already enjoying our table. The place is beautiful, with a lot of charm and history (although I confess I was still curious to know what this building once was). I thought the decor was a great success: walls with wine stain art, bottles perfectly fitted into their own niche in the stone… a lovely touch. The service was impeccable, from the receptionist to the two waiters who served us afterward: friendly, attentive, and always smiling. The food was simply spectacular, accompanied by a good local wine that invited continued conversation. Special mention for the tartar—simply delicious—and the crème brûlée for dessert, a final feast for the palate. Definitely a place I will return to.

(Translated by Google) ✨Toro, Zamora✨ A tavern in Toro (Zamora) with a terrace overlooking the Duero River, where you can eat very well and at a very good price. It's worth a visit. We tried exquisite fried eggs with ham, zucchini millefeuille (which needed more zucchini and had too much sauce), and a delicious salmon toast. The cheesecake, while good, is let down by the strawberry syrup (I wish it were homemade). The waitress's service was excellent. Recommended. Recomendable.

(Translated by Google) An experience to repeat (and recommend without hesitation) We ate at the Malaespina – Juan Segundo terrace and it was truly wonderful. The restaurant is located right next to the majestic Collegiate Church of Toro, in a corner with as much charm as history. The views of the Duero River and the Toro Bridge from the terrace are picture-postcard; a perfect place to relax and enjoy with all your senses. We ordered a zucchini millefeuille and a cachopo, which were delicious, well-presented, flavorful, and of surprising quality. We paired them with a Toro wine (spectacular!) that completed a well-rounded meal. But what really makes this place special is the friendly service. We were served by Juneisi, a very attentive, charming, and super-efficient Cuban waitress. She brought everything so quickly that I didn't even have time to finish my cigar before the food arrived! We were alone on the terrace, and she made us feel like royalty: friendly, professional, and with a very special energy. Plus, the prices are more than fair for the quality of the food, the service, and the surroundings. Everything was quick, tasty, and the atmosphere was perfect. In short: delicious food, 10/10 service, a dreamy setting, and a very reasonable price. A place we will definitely return to and one I wholeheartedly recommend.

(Translated by Google) The downside is that it doesn't have much variety. The set menus are average; two are meant to be shared, so for one person, there's only one option: choosing from the menu. But the food is good, without too much fuss. If you like a quiet, quiet place, this is a good option because the dining room is very spacious; when we were there, there weren't many people there. The staff was very attentive. They have various dishes, salads, tapas, portions and even desserts. They also have a menu of the day and special menus on specific dates. The prices are very competitive, excellent quality-price ratio. The only negative thing is that sometimes the service is slow, not because of the waiters or cooks but because the place is usually full. Regardless of this, they are very friendly and attentive. In conclusion, highly recommended.
