Nestled at the pinnacle of the historic Street of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes stands as a magnificent testament to medieval architecture and history. Originally constructed by the Knights Hospitaller in the early 14th century, this imposing fortress was built atop an earlier Byzantine stronghold from the 7th century. Once serving as both a grand residence and administrative hub for these valiant knights, it has witnessed centuries of change.
Tickets are 20 EUR, but honestly, it’s worth it, the palace is stunning, with beautifully preserved halls, mosaics and a real sense of history. The inner courtyard is impressive, and walking through the massive stone corridors feels like stepping back in time. Try to visit early in the day to avoid crowds and the heat. It’s one of the must-see landmarks in Rhodes Old Town.

This place is so neat! Tickets are 20Euro or about $23 USD. Get there as early as you can, it gets crowded fast. Amazing restored rooms and furniture and so much to learn and see. It is an impressive building and beautifully decorated. There is a wonderful museum at the end to view as well.
Emily E — Google review
I went on the castle walls and honestly for 5 euro it was a lot of fun! It's a nice walk and you get a nice view of the town. I will say that there are no benches or shade so it can be intense in the heat so ensure you have water.
Ella T — Google review
Not just a medieval palace, a real voyage in time. We visited the Palace of the Grand Master on a Sunday morning and it seems like we got there before the crowds. We had plenty of time to visit every room and also the opportunity to snap a lot of pictures without too many people around. First things first, the Palace is in pristine condition. I was expecting a nice place but this visit totally blew our minds. It's big, and I mean BIG. Lots of history, stunning architecture, and even more. There are a few places you visit where you feel like words aren't enough to describe, this is one of them. It seems like every room we visited brought a new dimension to the history of the place and wowed us with mosaics, furniture, views or just absolute grandeur. We were lucky enough to visit during a museum day so we got the chance to visit for free, but to be honest, it's totally worth the regular price ice of admission. Take the time to stop by the windows and take a look outside, views are amazing at almost all of them.

A magical place full of history and beauty! I absolutely loved the stunning architecture of the Palace of the Grand Master — as soon as I walked in, it felt like stepping into a Disney movie! Every artifact inside the museum is so well preserved, and the royal rooms are simply beautiful. The atmosphere takes you back in time, letting you imagine the life of the knights who once lived here. The ticket was €20, but it was totally worth it. A must-visit when in Rhodes!

Fantastic - really worth a visit. The architecture of the Palace is wonderful. All of the artifacts inside the museum are well preserved, and the various rooms are terrific to see. It was not overly busy when we went and the tickets were ~€20, but worth it.

History Museums
The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, located in the Old Town, is housed in the Medieval building of the hospital of the knights. It showcases ancient artifacts and art from excavations all over the island and small islets of Dodecanese. The collection includes figurines, vases, tomb groups, small objects from Ancient Ialyssos and Kameiros dating from Geometric to Roman times.
An enormous collection housed in a beautiful structure, the Museum is a must see! A carefully curated history of Rhodes in antiquity, there are hundreds of artefacts to admire. Allow plenty of time but be aware some galleries do not permit photography! Other exhibitions are not open on a Tuesday. There are some idyllic little gardens to admire too along the way, and the structure itself is beautiful. Highly recommended, just allow plenty of time!
Tim S — Google review
In my opinion, this is the most interesting tourist attraction inside the Rhodes citadel. What makes this museum stand out compared to others of its kind is that it is housed in the former hospital of the Knights Hospitaller, giving it an architecture and atmosphere completely different from a typical museum. Positive points: The entire complex is like an oasis of peace in the heart of the citadel — although you’re only 10–15 meters away from the hustle and bustle of the old town’s streets, you feel as if you have the place all to yourself. The impressive architecture. The garden, where you can sit for hours and relax (especially pleasant in the evening). Unique views of the surrounding streets (such as the famous Street of the Knights). Well-organized collections that illustrate the three major civilizations that shaped the island: Greek, Venetian, and Ottoman. Negative points: The museum’s various sections don’t share the same closing/opening hours. Some close much earlier than the times displayed at the entrance. (For example, we visited twice but never managed to see the harem.) To fully enjoy the museum, it’s best to arrive in the morning or, at the latest, around lunchtime. Little information available or, in some cases, no information at all. Bonus point: For just a few euros more, you can purchase a combined ticket that grants access to several attractions: the Archaeological Museum, the Palace of the Grand Master, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the Church of Our Lady of the Castle (the last two are more suited for true history enthusiasts, or for tourists with plenty of time on their hands.)

An absolutely gorgeous museum. You get to feel the aura and the vibe of the old town without the crowds. We had the entire place to ourself and it was magical. The old hospital was gorgeous and the artifacts were very well preserved. A truly magical place.
Aarush A — Google review
Majestic, grandiose, the walls of this grand place echoes the sound of the knights that used to gather there in big ceremonies, celebrating their victories. Very well preserved, shows the eras that passed in Rhodes and the political and cultural side of the rich island.

I really liked it, but here is something nobody is telling you about: some exhibitions are opened in certain hours&days only. I literally came for the prehistoric period and didn't get to see it as I was 30 minutes late for it. Thursday, Tuesdays and Saturdays only, 9 to 16:50. Rather visit in these times to be able to fully enjoy the otherwise great museum with rich exhibition.
Marin K — Google review
The museum is so beautiful with the garden and areas to sit and enjoy the sun. The statues are so incredible to see in person especially the tumbled one that was found in the ocean. I highly recommend i was in a rush to to a booking but I was there for 2 hours and didn't even realise! I went late September around 5pm and there was like no one there it was great!
Ella T — Google review
The Archaeological Museum of Rhodes is a must if you're even a little curious about the island's history. Located inside the medieval Hospital of the Knights. The building alone is impressive. The exhibits cover a wide range, statues, mosaics, ceramics, jewelry, from ancient Greece through medieval times. The gardens are peaceful and the layout is easy to follow. Entry is 10 eur. It can get warm inside, so bring water. Great cultural stop to escape the sun for a bit and learn something real.
Miodrag J — Google review
Been to Rhodes old town many times, but never managed to go into the museum. I would say it's a must visit. It was much bigger than we thought and the main large room that used to be the original hospital ward was breathtaking, much larger than expected. So many rooms with various prices of pottery and artefacts from over the years. Including a couple of rooms with some fantastic marble sculptures. I would also recommend visiting the garden to the back as it was a lively place to sit and cool down at the end of the day.

The Medieval City of Rhodes is a well-preserved walled town with grand palaces, Byzantine-era mosques, and charming piazzas lined with cafes. It's considered the best-preserved and most picturesque medieval city in Europe. The mystifying Street of the Knights leads to the magnificent Grand Master Palace, which has 160 rooms to explore. Other historical sites include the Archaeological Museum, Virgin of the Castle, Turkish baths, and mosques with tall minarets in small squares.
Such a stunning place. The structures are beautiful and feel taken care of. Everywhere you go, there is something even grander than the next. The streets are bustling with restaurants and shops. It is definitely worth a visit if you're ever in Rhodes. We didn't go into any of the museums but I will make sure to do that if I ever visit Rhodes a third time.

I had an amazing time! It's so beautiful and the kitties are so cute. The only issue is that a lot of the shops are almost identical but I do enjoy the tacky tourist vibe. Make sure you look around at prices to get the best price for things like shot glasses, magnets and drinks like the beer boot. I went late September and it was most busy usually afternoon when the heat dies down a bit.
Ella T — Google review
Absolutely beautiful city, situated on island and sounded by a old wall, it's so charming, fully packed with tourists, and full of shopping streets and restaurant, where you can find lots of good options. Little bit hot in the month of September as I visited today, old streets and monuments gives you very traditional vibe, at the same time you have so many luxury fashion shops make it true blend of traditional and modern blend.
Kuldeep R — Google review
A 'must visit'. Split into a Greek quarter, Jewish quarter and Turkish quarter. Busy during the day (cruise ships) and vibrant during the evening. Winding cobbled streets with shops and tavernas everywhere. Main streets can get very busy during the day but it's worth finding the quiet areas such as those 'top left' away from the harbour. Here you will still find gifts/crafts but more shade and a lot more peace & quiet. Well worth finding the Minos Roof Top Cafe/Bar for a fantastic view and some restbite! (See my review and photos.) During the evening the town is tastefully lit with uplighting and street lamps. Go off the beaten track and you will always find a quaint taverna or bar. It's simply beautiful and full of life. To navigate the town, start at the main square (through gate by commercial harbour/car park). The main shopping streets and side streets all lead up to the Islamic spire at the top of the town. Use this to get your bearings. The palace is then up and over to the right. The bus station is also easy to find and here you will also find an umbrella shop with all sorts of designs - well worth a look.

A Beautiful City full of medieval charm, a network of idyllic winding streets. Friendly, hospitable people. History and culture combine with Cosmopolitan style. One of my favourite places in the world. And the food (Gyros) from Mama Sofia's was excellent 👌

Such a beautiful well maintained site of extremely significant historical buildings. You can literally feel the history and stories seeping out of the walls. Very highly recommended you visit and allow a couple of hours to truly immerse yourself.

I absolutely loved visiting the Medieval City of Rhodes! Walking through its cobbled streets felt like stepping into another era. Acropolis of Rhodes

Ancient Ruins
The Acropolis of Rhodes is a significant ancient site located in the capital of the island, on Monte Smith. It features various structures such as a stadium and theater, offering visitors a glimpse into the long-standing settlement's history. Additionally, nearby attractions include the Acropolis of Lindos and ancient Minoan artifacts dating back over 3,000 years. Nature enthusiasts can explore the Valley of Butterflies with its unique flora and fauna.
Step Back in Time – Exploring the Acropolis of Rhodes and Surrounding Ancient Wonders Visiting the Acropolis of Rhodes is like walking through a portal into ancient history. Perched on Monte Smith hill and surrounded by greenery, the site is a treasure trove of remarkable ruins, each whispering stories from over 2,300 years ago. Start your journey with the Olympic Stadium, beautifully preserved and still echoing the spirit of ancient athleticism. You can almost picture the competitions that once took place here. Just a short walk away, you’ll find the small but impressive Odeon, a Roman-era theater that once hosted music and poetry performances – it’s a peaceful spot that brings the grandeur of the past to life. The crown jewel, of course, is the Temple of Apollo, with its tall columns standing proudly against the sky. Though partially restored, the site still evokes the sacred atmosphere of classical worship. As you explore further, you’ll come across scattered ruins, columns, and steps that once formed temples, sanctuaries, and public spaces — all part of the ancient city’s rich tapestry. Besides the historical significance, the views from the hilltop are absolutely stunning. Overlooking the sea and the modern town of Rhodes, it’s a perfect mix of natural beauty and cultural depth. Don’t be surprised if you lose track of time — there’s something new to admire around every corner. A few tips: • Wear comfortable sneakers – the paths are uneven, and you’ll be doing a fair bit of walking. • Bring plenty of water, especially in summer – shade is limited, and the sun can be intense. • A camera is a must – both for the ruins and the sweeping panoramic views. In short: This area is a must-see for history lovers, architecture buffs, or anyone who wants to experience the soul of ancient Greece. It’s not just a sightseeing spot — it’s an experience that transports you centuries into the past. Don’t miss it while you’re in Rhodes!
Ion D — Google review
A fascinating area of Hellenistic archeology. The arena is particularly stunning. Tip- you can enter the site from the top or bottom ends (google maps takes you to the top). Roadways make access to some parts accessible. Drift amongst the ruins and admire the massive collection of labelled artefacts that presumably need sorting through! There is also a pleasant café and toilets.
Peter S — Google review
Very nice acropolis on top of the hill. You can walk from the center of the town or take a bus. There’s a café at the entrance with lots of seating and parking. You can park there. The entire site is comprised of the stadium, the amphitheater, ruins of the Apollon temple, and the Artemis (though only the foundations remain for that one). On Sunday, the site visit was free of charge otherwise it was €10 per person for adults. You can stroll around and look at this marvelous site. I suggest some good footwear because the paths around the site are sometimes rough.
Oliviu G — Google review
Not the flashiest of ancient ruins, but the stadium and Odeon are well preserved and the placards tell the story of an ancient academy that can be easily seen from the ruins outliyon the grounds. There isn't much left of the Temple of Apollo or the Temple of Artemis because they were heavily bombed in WW 2 but there are some ruins and good explanatory displays. If you have more than a day in Rhodes it's worth the visit. It's free, quiet and has great views. A peaceful respite compared to the huge crowds of the Old Town.
Adam Z — Google review
This was such an interesting visit, still lots of work to do but amazing to see remains of the temple, arena and theatre. The size is just mind blowing and if these stones could talk….. Thoroughly recommend, it is definitely worth a visit. There are toilets within the wall on the left on the way down from the temple. Great little cafe, Acropolis cafe, at the bottom with tasty cake and reasonable prices, coffee lovely. Currently no charge to visit the Acropolis so why not? I hope they continue developing this site as it would be absolutely amazing. Has more to see than Acropolis at Lindos in my humble opinion!
Nicola W — Google review
Very good, picturesque walk to and from the acropolis. If you’re staying in Rhodes town definitely do go, it’s worth seeing some ancient history and reading about what it signified. We went on a Saturday morning and didn’t pay for any tickets which was a bonus. They also have a little gallery with the history of the excavations and there are toilets nearby.
Ewa J — Google review
Acropolis itself isn't very impressive sadly, but they're making some adjustments or renovations, not sure. Perhaps it will be interesting when the construction finishes. Right now it's not very worth. Better visit the stadium and scene/odeon. This is the location of the Acropoli, not the complex itself
Marin K — Google review
Asides from the fact that it was on renovation when I visited, safe to say it’s okay to take 30 mins of your time to visit the monument. You not only see the Acropolis but the stadium right behind it. Parking is free, less crowded, entrance is free as well.

Toy store
Jumbo Ρόδος is a large store located at the exit of Rhodes city, towards Faliraki. It offers a wide range of products including toys, home goods, clothes and more at reasonable prices. The drive to the store provides an authentic Greek experience with narrow one-lane roads. While it's like a maze inside, offering an IKEA-like shopping experience, it has everything you might need for your holiday.
Large discount shop selling everything you could possibly need for a holiday, home or hobby. The layout is like ikea so when you are in it is difficult to get out. I'd recommend leaving enough time to visit. There are toilets available on the first floor. Ample parking to the front.

Really nice Jumbo store, clean, tidy and modern. It was a pleasure when we visited with family in June. There is also a small coffee and refreshments van just outside of it, so it makes your visit even more convenient.

Lots of bargains, cheap treats, and a fun, air-conditioned shopping experience that’s perfect for a break from the heat.

Romeo Restaurant is located in a renovated 500-year-old structure, close to the fortress walls of Rhodes' Old Town. This historic stone edifice, adorned with traditional shutters, evokes a sense of antiquity. The eatery offers an array of delectable dishes at reasonable prices. Its affable staff caters to diverse visitors by providing menus in various languages, including Polish.
Everything was great! Especially sardines with cheese were a masterpiece 🙌🏻 All staff were kind, helpful. And thanks to Akin, for his frequent check-ins and friendliness. Only thing we did not like much was cinnamon in baklava, it was too strong. Apart from this live Greek music, dances, “Opa” (plate breakings) were amazing. Would come again, we had so much fun

We came here after seeing it being recommended on TikTok, the service was pretty slow and it took a while for anybody to approach us to take our orders and a while for our drinks/starters to arrive however once the main course came this made up for the slower service completely! Absolutely phenomenal food and I recommend for this basis! The live Greek singers every night really adds to the excellent setting.

We visited as part of an excursion with our cruise. Romeos is lovely. You eat outside under a giant shade tree. I imagine at night it is particularly lovely with the lights strung. We did not choose from the menu, but thoroughly enjoyed what was provided. We started with bread with 4 different spreads, all different colors and flavors. Bottled water and white wine was provided. The wine was on the dryer side and reminded me of a reisling. We then had a salad of tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, red onions and olives topped with olive oil. Our main course was a vegetable stew (we had the vegetarian option). It has root vegetables, eggplant, peppers and onions. It was delicious. Dessert was an orange cake drenched in a light syrup. We enjoyed the whole meal. The staff were very efficient and kindly accommodated our dietary requirements. The women's restrooms are upstairs to the right and the men's is upstairs to the left.

Fantastic spot! After reading some great reviews, we decided to try this place for dinner and we weren’t disappointed! I had the Diavola pizza, which was fluffy, light, and absolutely delicious. You could tell they take their pizza seriously, especially seeing the proper pizza oven on the way in. My other half went for the prawn linguine, which was perfectly saucy with a fantastic fresh fish flavor. The service was also amazing, and they had live music which made for a fantastic atmosphere. We would highly recommend this spot and will definitely be coming back!

This was recommended to us by the night manager for live greek music and authentic food and dear God was he spot on. The food was fresh, very good portion size, attentive staff a live band, and even some plate smashing. If in Rhodes town or are visiting the area youd be missing out if this isn't the one restaurant you indulge in.

Tourist trap Bad service. Brought starter together with main dish. Let us wait for order of food 15 minutes. No small gestrure at the end- no sweets no drinks no melon- far below island standards. Bad vives. The ovtopus was half portion- overpriced Fiid quality low average

They break plates! I’ve been to Greek islands dozens of times and I’ve never seen that. But last night when the locals started dancing…. Besides that, the live music is fantastic, joyful, upbeat and fun. We didn’t want to leave. And, if you think this might mean the food isn’t good…you’d be wrong. Best gigantes in town. They even have a bit of spice to them. The vegetarians were very happy. And the meat eaters loved the squid and gyro plates. I’ve been to Rhodes four times, and this is the place I crave when I get here. Reservations aren’t required but if you want the table next to the musicians, book ahead. Go here!
Jim S — Google review
The atmosphere is excellent with live music that makes it really entertaining. The food was very delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the service was fast — we didn’t wait long. For Turkish visitors, there’s a Turkish menu and Turkish-speaking staff. With Turkish songs playing as well, this is definitely a must-visit taverna in Rhodes.

Restaurant Wonder

Restaurant
Nestled in the heart of Rhodes town, Restaurant Wonder is a culinary gem that beautifully marries Mediterranean flavors with French influences. Since its establishment in 2001, this charming eatery has been dedicated to serving the local community with dishes crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The menu is thoughtfully updated based on seasonal availability, ensuring that every visit offers something new and delightful. During my recent summer visit to Restaurant Wonder, I was utterly captivated by both the stunning ambiance and the exquisite cuisine.
From the minute we arrived we knew this place was going to live up to its name! The hostess was an absolute gem and made our stay one of the most enjoyable nights we had in Rhodes. The place is beautiful and the food... wow. You have to try the Scallops Kantaifi, they're simply amazing. I also chose the fillet Tournedos, which was delicious - really show stopping stuff! We ended up staying and chatting with our hostess until the early hours of the morning with a couple of cocktails. A lovely experience. Go here at all costs if in Rhodes!

Fantastic is an understatement. First class food for every course. Best meal we’ve had in a long time. Worth every penny. If you want top quality food, service and ambience, look no further.

We visited Restaurant Wonder twice during the week because of the exceptional food and the friendliness of the staff. Every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavour, with a great mix of Mediterranean and creative options. The service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere relaxed yet elegant. The restaurant offers a lovely combination of outdoor courtyard dining or, if the weather turns, comfortable indoor seating. Quite simply, the best food we’ve had while in Rhodes, both on this visit and on previous trips to the island. Highly recommend.

We went for a family meal at the Wonder Restaurant and the staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. We have Fillet Mignon, salmon, Thai chicken, seafood soup and BBQ ribs as main courses and everyone said the food was delicious and tasty. We ordered local oak aged white wine based on a recommendation and it was great too. We will be going back!

We had delicious dinner at Wonder. The staff was quite stressed since there were many people, but they managed everything well.

A Hidden Gem in Rhodes. Truly Exceptional! We had dinner here last night with five friends, four of whom have years of experience in the hospitality industry and we were all genuinely impressed. Every single aspect of this restaurant was fantastic. Everything is homemade, and you can truly taste the love and care in every dish. The flavors were fresh, authentic, and beautifully balanced. It’s clear that quality and craft come first here. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. They took their time with us, were honest and sincere, and made us feel right at home. The owner herself came to the table with a big smile and so much passion. You could tell she puts her heart into everything she does. The ambiance is cozy and charming, like dining in someone’s beautiful backyard. Without a doubt one of the best dining experiences we’ve had on Rhodes!

As i visit Wonder restaurant often it offers a truly sublime gourmet experience, where each exquisitely crafted dish is a masterpiece of flavor and artistic presentation, designed to capt captivate the senses. This culinary journey unfolds within a remarkably tranquil oasis, providing a sophisticated escape from the city's relentless pace. Soft, ambient lighting and sumptuously comfortable seating create an atmosphere of profound relaxation, inviting guests to unwind and savor every moment as the vibrant energy of the metropolis of Rhodes Town phums gently below. It is here that the innovative spirit of gourmet dining perfectly merges with an unparalleled sense of urban calm, transforming a meal into an unforgettable, serene indulgence.

Small plates restaurant
Restaurant
Drosoulites is a charming tavern in Rhodes Town that pays homage to the ghostly legend of the Cretan rebellion times in 1828. This small plates restaurant offers a wide variety of traditional Cretan dishes, complemented by options like raki, tsipouro, and ouzo.
A chance to sample some authentic Cretan cuisine, some of which is quite different to the usual Greek fare. Fab surroundings and hosted by an efficient and extremely friendly MC, this culinary adventure is highly recommended if you're anywhere near Rhodes Town.

Very nice place with beautiful grounds. Good service and friendly staff. Traditional Cretan cuisine and modern Greek cuisine. We really enjoyed the food and the quality of the dishes.

I can't say it's something special sadly, although everyone was having quite some meat. Personal taste I think, but the meat was undercooked and we left most of it. Keep in mind when ordering. Fries tasted bad/old, food came seconds after ordering and we had to wait and remind them about drinks. Cheese was not feta - nor in the fries, salad, or the fried one. At least they brought us watermelon which is rare these days...

We decided to try this restaurant with the promise of traditional greek food and it looked like a beautiful restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the service felt incredibly rushed, the server was looking at his device while trying to seat us and first of all offered us a dirty table. Once we were sat the staff were quick to bring us menus and served our drinks quickly which was good. However that's where it went downhill, the beef stifado was almost pure fat and was inedible the sauce so incredibly runny, the bread was not tasty and was dry, the fries were average at best and also dry, neither of us ate barely anything and the wait staff didn't ask how our meals were and just took our plates, the staff are clearly rushed off their feet but this place needs real work in the kitchen and in terms of the food quality, this is probably up there with one of my worst meals in Greece. Really disappointed.

If you are visiting roads, you must try this restaurant! It’s a traditional cretin style taverna with incredible food and incredible staff! We arrived, and they didn’t have a table for four available for us, but that didn’t matter, the manager of the restaurant made a space for us to sit, where one didn’t exist before! We absolutely enjoyed ourselves visiting this restaurant, and the atmosphere was incredible! And who doesn’t love a restaurant that starts the evening off with a shot of alcohol!

A beautiful garden setting with truly delicious food. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a scenic spot to enjoy traditional Greek cuisine.

The food was really good, fresh and full of taste. What stood out the most, however, was the warm hospitality – the staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel truly at home. A lovely place with both great flavors and genuine people.
