The Hippocrates Tree is a lovely spot to visit in Kos Town. It offers a nice bit of nature and a chance to learn some of the history behind Hippocrates and his connection to the island. Overall, it also gives you a nice overview of the bay area, making it a pleasant stop while exploring the town.

To visit the possible birthplace of modern medical understanding , to take shade under the descendent sibling of that once great tree who play host to the great minds of antiquity can not be fully described! It must be felt..

It’s a tree. Nothing to tree here I’m afraid. Pointless. Even the ruins around here aren’t that great, not very well maintained. It killed 5 minutes before I found something better.

To be honest it's a tree. A very old tree. Held up with scaffolding. However it is a quiet shady spot and how could you visit Kos and not go and see it given the world wide medical culture that arose on this spot (allegedly).

Perfect spot, surrounded by some old Greek buildings and the oldest tree lit with light. Fantastic entertainment which totally set the mood. Service was excellent and my sea bass was delicious. Restaurant is more pricey than others in the town but if you are wanting some evening ambiance with a touch of class away from the tourist area this is the place.

It's not the best best sightseeing experience we've had. The tree is not actually the tree that Hippocrates taught his students as it is only around 500 years old. Although it is thought to be a descendant of the original tree.

Was over in Kos Island recently for a conference, and I’ve to say, it’s a smashing place altogether. Even with a packed schedule, I managed to steal a bit of time to explore, and I’m glad I did. The island’s full of gorgeous beaches - honestly, you’re never too far from the sea - and Kos Town itself is well worth a wander. The harbour’s lively, with all sorts of boat trips heading out daily, from gentle cruises to a bit more adventure if that’s your thing. There’s no shortage of places to eat or grab a drink, and the whole place has this relaxed, welcoming vibe. What surprised me most, though, was how much history is packed in - from ancient Greek temples and Roman mosaics to the castle at the harbour and the famed tree of Hippocrates. You don’t have to be a history buff to appreciate it - it’s all there in the open, woven into daily life. All in all, Kos has that perfect balance of work, wander, and a bit of wonder - I’d go back in a heartbeat, conference or no conference.

We stopped at Kouros Palace Hotel, which is a 20-minute transfer from the airport. This might sound terrible, but the planes only take off certain times of the day, and with long gaps between The hotel is very clean, and the staff go out of their way to help. Two decent size pools and also a paddling pool. The hotel also offers a great private beach front with its own bar and fresh cooked food. The hotel is situated 2 miles from the nearest town of Mastichari, which also provides food and drink. If your looking to find a hotel to unwind this was well worth its money. The only negative comment that I do have about the hotel was the repetitive evening meal choice. Greek night on the Saturday was outstanding ,with fresh cooked Lamb chops and pork cooked on the hot plates

What a place ,amazing ,kos main town was the absolute fabulous place worth every bit of time we spent there ,old town it fabulous aswell can't wait to come back ,made so many friends (to keep in touch) friends family old or young this place as it all

Castle is free to visit albeit not as spectacular as Bodrum Castle in Turkey but it's worth a look. We loved the main square but food and drink is pricey, we enjoyed the pretty side streets and found much better value there - the Ambrosia is recommended.

Another beautiful Greek island that really has it all: beautiful beaches, interesting towns and good people! Whether you're here just for vacation or nightlife, to enjoy the architecture or food and drink, you're in the right place. I recommend accommodation in Kos town and then a tour by rental car or Ktel (bus) which works perfectly. Enjoy!

We did 4 days. Plenty of time to see the island. Loads to do. You wont be disappointed or run out of things to do.

I enjoyed the exhibition at this museum. However, for a ticket price of €10, it feels a bit steep, especially since the visit only takes about half an hour—or up to an hour if you take your time reading and sitting down. Overall, I would recommend it if you’re genuinely interested in the subject. But if you’re unsure, I wouldn’t advise going.

Visited midweek. Small museum covering some of Kos amazing history. Unfortunately it didn't appear to be in chronological order and cost €10. I would strongly suggest that Kos place information signs on the numerous historical sites around the town to explain the significance of what just appears to be a load of rubble.

This two floor Museum is close to the harbor and Main Street of Kos. With reading mostly everything it took me about 45-minutes to get through. Interesting info but not laid out in any way that makes sense. Could have done a much better job. Does have a lot of the sculptures from the Roman Villa and from a few sites around Kos. It cost €10 to enter and I personally do not think it was worth it.

This is such an interesting place to visit when in Kos town. The ensure of an old market place, there are plenty of ruins to walk round and see up close. We visited 25 years ago and now again ton July 2025. Definitely worth a visit.

The ancient agora is a sight to behold. Although it is not as well maintained as the Roman Odeon in my opinion, there is weed everywhere and some of the signs appear to be missing, you can still feel the history present in this place. Walking through it is a nice experience and with free access during daytime, something that you shouldn't skip when in Kos town.

I really enjoyed visiting the Ancient Agora in Kos. It’s free to enter, which is a great bonus, and it’s fascinating to walk among the ruins and imagine what life was like thousands of years ago. It’s not a huge site, but it’s a fun way to step back in time and get a glimpse of the island’s rich history. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Kos Town.

I left a similar review on the sanctuary of arophdite. It is odd to review ruins as they are always special. What I mean to say is it is a real shame there is no information to be able to understand and seperate out the history of each area. I am not sure why this site is not maintained for what it could be, it seems in the past there were information boards that have now been removed. It was free, but I would have absolutely paid for greater upkeep and information

Would of like to explore this place but like most of kos structures and monuments they are either closed or abandoned with no information. Seems most of it is need of a massive influx of cash to get them back to some of way that tourist can visit and learn the history

I would happily pay couple of euros each to come into this fine place. A combination of modern and mythological history situated in the heart of Kos, for any history buff this is an amazing walk. As said it is free with local eateries nearby on the harbour. Please explore it is safe go down the unlit tunnels and let your inner kid go wild with enjoyment. Wish for more educational aspects to it as I was explaining to many the parts of the building and how some of it was changed to incorporate the use of it during ww2

Entrance to castle and walls from outside look really very beautiful. Unfortunatelly inside is not any exhibition. Which is very sad, it would be awesome place for museumabout history of castle. You can go around castle (part of walls are closed because they are collapsing) and take pictures of beautiful views.

It's okay. It's free to enter, so visit it. But don't expect too much from it. I really missed some information about its history and the things I was looking at. Nice view of the Harbor from the corners of the castle. You can't visit most of the castle by the way.

The day I visited the castle, it felt like I was taken back to the Middle Ages. Walking through the castle brings history to life. I’m just waiting for the main castle to open so we can see its interior up close.

We only had Greek salad, but it was very delicious. The wine was great as well, I had Mega Spileo Domaine Cuvee III and I highly recommend it. Lovely location and friendly staff as well!

Excellent atmosphere and service. Magnificent tastes. BUT! NO dish is worth waiting for two hours. This is how long it took for the mains to arrive. Huge problem in the kitchen operations. Hence the four stars. If you are patient give it a try.

Unfortunately, we found small stones in our food. The staff apologized right away, which we appreciated, but we were a bit surprised that the affected dish wasn’t taken off the bill. we booked for a dinner in August this year and I can say it was the best night of our one week stay thanks to the atmosphere and live music! There were very talented two musicians playing some nice songs (mostly acoustic pop-rock classics) and the atmosphere with all the history was just amazing. I need to tell that the food and the wine was very tasty as well, with a good service. "Grilled Beetroot" to share can be an interesting option that you won't regret.

Located just inside the old town is this gorgeous restaurant with a beautiful garden. We stopped for a drink but ended getting some of the best pasta we’ve had in Kos! Personal recommendation is the salmon e tagliatelle or the spicy pancetta amatriciana. Super friendly staff too.

We were really excited to come here as we had read about it in a guidebook and it looked beautiful, but it certainly did not live up to our expectations.

It’s in a very popular area with lots of buzz and atmosphere, but despite the busy location, the quality of the food and service didn’t drop at all. The setting itself was lovely, with charming décor, soft lighting, and a real Greek island feel. It had a relaxed yet lively atmosphere that made the whole experience really enjoyable. The menu was easy to read and had a good variety of traditional Greek dishes. We ordered the lamb kleftiko and the chicken gyros. The kleftiko arrived in a clay pot, which was a great touch and made the dish feel very authentic — it was tender, flavourful, and satisfying. The chicken gyros was also delicious, seasoned really well, and I liked that they served potato rounds instead of chips — it was a refreshing change from the usual. A wonderful taverna! We enjoyed every meze and every dish on the table, everything was delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the music created a great atmosphere. Our accommodation was right next door, so every time we went out and came back, we passed through and greeted the staff which made it feel even warmer and more welcoming. Definitely a place we’d love to come back to.

I went there while on a holiday to Kos. The taverna looks super authentic and has a very "marine" decoration style thats raw and charming. Whats also charming is the kitties on-site The food is amazing - I ordered the Mix Seafood plate that contains Calamari, Mussels, Shrimp, and Local Fish. The prices are a little high but the portions are SO HUGE. The man who asks you if you want a drink is very nice and speaks good english, and so do the wonderful waitresses. They are very competent and time from order to arrival is pretty short. We also received a small bite of free dessert. Toilets are free, Drinks are overpriced but you are free to bring your own.
