Saint-Pierre-d'Oleron in 2 days

If you only have 2 days to spend in Saint-Pierre-d'Oleron, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron is the main town of Île d’Oléron, offering a lively market, narrow streets, and traditional Charentaise architecture. With favorites like Restaurant le Grain de Sable Oléron, Fort Boyard, and Camping Ile d'Oleron · L'Anse des Pins · 4 étoiles · Piscine & Bord de mer, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Quai 71 and Restaurant Pizzeria La Bella so you can get the best taste of Saint-Pierre-d'Oleron while you’re here. In September it is not so crowded. I went there in the morning. This is a good time to meet not too many tourists. But I can imagine its full in summertime. Parking 2 hours is possible for free.

La Sardinerie is a wonderful seafood restaurant that serves up some of the best fish and chips in all of Cotiniere. The restaurant is situated in a tranquil street away from the hustle and bustle, making it the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring the island. The food here is exquisite, with oysters being particular favourites. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable, perfect for winding down after a busy day.
Best restaurant in cotiniere ! We ate here almost every day while we were in the island. It is situated in a charming street away from traffic. It had a welcoming warm service. Their fish and chips is a must try with a light fluffy batter and home made sauce.

have eaten here many times previously and usually good but poor dining experience recently, seated in an inaccessible and uncomfortable place, when complained waitress and owner were rude, uncompromising and unapologetic, meal was standard average, place is not what it used to be and focus seems to be on volume not quality now, will not go again.

Delicious small family restaurant with quality local products and obvious attention to details. Best one we tried in the area. Everything we ordered was great but in particular the sardines rollmops, the daurade (poisson du jour) and the fish and chips. We didn’t order the sardines grillées but they looked worth it. Our waiter was a gem too. Definitely a place we will return to

Very basic place, tasteless food and pricy... We went for a quick lunch and ended up staying there for 90min... the food is too basic and I can honestly say I make better crepes/pancakes... you have to pay for everything, even for a plate and a fork if you come with a very young kid. I had never seen that before in my life...

I just want to share for those who will be in a similar situation. We drove for over 5hrs from Urdos and was looking for a campsite so we can stop for the night and rest. Turned up and said they have one pitch left. I had a looked, wasn't the best as it was on a corner end but I was abit desperate as it was 5pm and getting late so I paid 66Euros for family of 4. Went quickly to the beach just to relax before the sun sets. A few hours after we went back to pitch our tents. As we were setting up we noticed strong smell of urine around and found some dog poo that I have cleared! Obviously other campers were using it as a toilet! In the end my young boys and husband refused to stay as once you were on the ground the bad smell of urine just lingers. So we decided to leave but reception was closed so didn't get the chance to inform any staff as no one around and was getting really late. Next morning I phoned them to let them know what happened. Unfortunately they refused to give me a refund, even half refund which I'm asking for. I emailed their office but said since I left and didn't tell anyone and that I agreed to take the pitch so no refund will be issued. I have worked all my life in hospitality industry and certain situations like that should be taken into consideration. In this note definitely wouldn't recommend this place. I am more happy to stay in little family run camp sites who really value their customers!
Gecus — Google review
In common, camping good. But why pool is anly till 20:00, water was cold ,and it would be better to take sauna in evening. but: Beach is terrible, only in 1 place you can swim without rocks under your feet. 1 Cafe with untasty cocktail, one day cappuccino was good, next day without whipped cream. But you can go 10 min in city and have good coffee or cocktail, and market also there. Next year I will choose other place.

Campervan trip We had a fantastic time in our VW camper which was parked right next to the sea. Every night we could watch the sunset over the sea and listen to the sound of the waves. The staff are very helpful. The site we found to be very clean and well run. One thing I don't understand is why Speedos only in the pool, it implies my swimming shorts were not hygienic, every country has their own silly rules. Jump on a bike it's easy to get around.

Well, well, well!! You can find a really great pizza in France afterall. As an ex-pat who happens to live in France, I very, very rarely come across a pizzeria here that knows the basics of even a Margerita. This convivial and extremely friendly outpost is a pizza fans happy place, serving dainty and delicious pizzas with a proper smoky-burnt crust. If you like your base extra crispy, just ask. If you are rightly terrified that you're in France and that they'll use a teaspoon of tomato sauce base and a mix of cheap, grated emmental and mounds of chevre cheeses as the fromage, fear not here. Better still, the service is welcoming, accommodating and the right side of friendly - whether you're taking away or eating in at the terrace at the back. Granted, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but trust me - this is an extremely worthy pizza joint.

Ate there last evening. Very pleasant staff with good English. Had a lovely meal. The steak was a very fatty & I felt a better cut of meat would have been nicer. (Translated by Google) I ordered three pizzas. All three had undercooked pizza dough, and two of them (a four-cheese pizza and a margarita) had way too much cheese. Generosity is good, but not at the expense of the product! Clearly, the dough was too thin and undercooked. I felt like I'd had a plate of melted cheese without the dough. As a result, the pizzas weren't eaten and ended up in the trash. Fort Boyard, a sea fort completed in 1859, was originally conceived by Napoleon for coastal defense. It stands as a monumental structure guarding the mouth of the Charente river and has become famous as the set for a popular TV game show. Boat trips departing from La Rochelle and nearby islands offer visitors an opportunity to witness this impressive monument rising above the waves.

This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I recently visited in the last week of June. I used one of the boat tour companies and it was incredible and a must do if you're in La Rochelle. Although you can't land on the fort, it's still spectacular to circle it and admire the fort that's been on our TV in the past, and for some countries still is!

A stone building in the middle of the see, an interesting history for the building which was a fort, a prison and now the set for TV show around the world Fort Boyard!! Do not hesitate to take a tour from La Rochelle to cruise around Aix, Oleron islands and see the Re island bridge. Leaving La Rochelle is also something interesting and beautiful to see. Relax and enjoy!!!

Beach
Plage de Boyardville is a serene coastal area on the west coast of Île d'Oléron, offering a perfect spot for family swimming with stunning views of Fort Boyard and the island of Aix. The beach is several kilometers long and features a bar/snack area, pine-covered hillsides, and facilities like showers, toilets, and easy access for people with disabilities. It's known for its clean and calm waters, making it ideal for water sports and swimming.
Really beautiful beach. Free parking, lots of bicycle parking in the shade and toilets.

A good beach for a young family. It’s around 800m to the port. It’s supervised. It has views of Fort Boyard. The beach was not crowded and the sea was calm, great for young ones. Parking is ample.
Chris K — Google review
Nice clean sandy beach. Parking and toilets available although the cleanliness of the toilet was rather questionable. There is a café but we went on the day it is closed. The beach has lifeguards. Unlike the other side of the island, the sea is calm here and also shallow, so it is ideal for families with smaller children.

This is My favourite plage around Oleron. View is amazing😍⭐⭐⭐ Watching ocean, feeling it's breeze....what could be better?❤️ From the beach you can see Fort Boyarde. I love this place and hope u will love it too💖 any season this beach will be interesting to visit just come and check it 🤩🌟💖

Not dog friendly. The ferry is, but not sure what you are expected to do with your dog when you get to Ile d'Oleron. Just hang out at the restaurants at the pier??? It's not like you can drive to other parts of the island if you come by ferry. We had to trek out far with our dog to go to a part of the island that didn't have lifeguards shooing us away. Terrible experience

Pole-Nature Marais aux Oiseaux is a vast 10-hectare nature reserve located in the heart of Oleron. The center offers an opportunity to explore diverse wildlife, including both wild and domestic animals, while strolling through ponds, oak trees, and marigold fields. It also serves as a conservation facility dedicated to aiding distressed wild birds.

Pretty decent.. spend a good hour watching some birds with the kids. Nothing special, but it's alright if you are in the area

A very poor sight for animal lovers. A lot of broken wings in dirty waters. Dirty cages. Some ill animals. We would like to think that they had provisional problems. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this place.

(Translated by Google) A pleasant surprise, both for the well-presented collections and the interesting temporary exhibition, as well as for the pleasant and thoughtful welcome. Three rooms offer a good overview of daily life and material culture in Oléron (rural housing and work before modernity, construction of the viaduct and the birth of the holiday resort, artists and Oléron landscapes); upstairs, the space was dedicated to the seaside architecture of Charente-Maritime in the second half of the 20th century. Don't hesitate to push open the door of this charming museum! (Translated by Google) A pleasant museum which offers very simple access to knowledge. Quite complete, we discover in the three rooms on the ground floor a little of the history of the island, what the inhabitants lived by, their trades and the tools related to them. Everything is presented in a fun and accessible way for children, which allows adults to have an intuitive and relaxed visit. The temporary exhibition from 03/10/2018 to 09/30/2018 is BANDE A PART. It brings together the works of more than 20 artists, the visitor is invited to vote for one of them at the end of the visit. I found it very interesting, an exhibition booklet is offered to each visitor: 50 pages of souvenirs to take home. (Original) Un musée agréable qui offre des accès très simples aux savoirs. If you're on the lookout for a delightful dining experience, look no further than Le Mille Pates! This charming eatery offers an impressive selection of pasta and pizza that will tantalize your taste buds. During my visit with friends, we indulged in two pizzas and a comforting lasagna, all made with fresh ingredients. The thin, crispy crust of the pizzas paired perfectly with the flavorful layers of lasagna. To wash it down, we enjoyed refreshing cold drinks like pineapple juice and Coca-Cola.
An excellent restaurant. We visited twice between Christmas and New year. The pizzas look great and the pasta is delicious. Would recommend the lasagne and the carbonara.

🌟 Great pasta and pizza at Le Mille Pâtes! We visited as a group of three and ordered two pizzas and one lasagna — everything was fresh and delicious. The crust on the pizzas was thin and crispy, and the lasagna was comforting and flavorful. ⠀ For drinks, we had pineapple juice, apple juice, and a Coca-Cola — all served cold and refreshing. ⠀ The atmosphere was casual and pleasant, and service was friendly. A nice place for a relaxed meal if you're in the area!

Nestled in the picturesque Ile d'Oleron, Fifi et Nanou Mounier is a charming guinguette that offers a delightful escape into the world of fresh seafood. Set against the backdrop of oyster parks, this inviting spot features cozy tented dining areas and a warm atmosphere that instantly makes you feel at home.
The prawns and oysters were so fresh and tasty and came withe a lovely lemony white wine……. And at an a very reasonable price Will return again before returning to UK

It's a lovely place on Île d'Oléron. The dining area is made of a couple of tents. Parking is easy. They serve seafood: choice of local oysters, prawns, sea snails, mussels. But I've had prawns before you might say. But as good as them? Mussels are served with a delicious parsley butter and generous. Oysters are available in 4 sizes (the higher the number the smaller the oyster) and were superb. The food is hyper fresh. Some dishes come with a complimentary glass of wine. Prices are moderate. Great place I'd happily return to.

Arrived thinking this was a nice quiet site, kept awake by teenagers playing hide and seek around the tents until midnight, noisy adults and music until 2am, even though the site rules say no noise after 10.30! Decided to leave after paying for 2 nights and being refused a refund for 2nd night by owner who didn't even apologise, but said that the next night would be tranquil !!!! DO NOT GO!
