Echternach Abbey, situated in the picturesque town of Echternach in Luxembourg, is a significant historical and cultural site. This 7th-century Benedictine monastery boasts stunning architecture blending Romanesque and Gothic styles. While most of the complex is now a school, visitors can still explore the atmospheric museum located in the vaulted basement, featuring facsimiles of illuminated manuscripts and other historical artifacts.
Amazing beautiful place, has two museums (one inside and another one outside that you have to pay €3 cash to enter). We managed to park almost immediately outside the front door of the abbey. St Wilibrord’s story is fascinating and brought to life beautifully here.

After a full day of hiking in the part of Luxembourg called "little Switzerland" as well as Mullerthal, we went to visit a small village in this area. During the visit of the city we found an abbey. Large, immense, abbey with not many objects/pictures, but that gives a sense of welcome.
Stella P — Google review
The Abbey of Echternach, founded in the 7th century by St. Willibrord, is a significant historical and cultural landmark in Luxembourg. Despite extensive restorations, particularly after World War II, the abbey retains its historical charm and continues to attract numerous visitors. The highlight of the abbey's impressive architecture and serene atmosphere. The Basilica of St. Willibrord, part of the abbey complex, is noted for its beautiful stained glass windows and intricate carvings. One reviewer mentioned that the basilica dominates the town of Echternach and is well worth a visit.

Went there as part of guided tour. History is really good. Unfortunately it was raining heavily so wasn't able to enjoy outdoors much. Heard about the possession which happens every year in June.
Anindita G — Google review
I stopped here as i passed through town -I think i happened to arrive right as it was opening, I walked in to see, and the place was empty, so i wandered around. -Its a nice big church. there is stairs downstairs to a crypt with tombs and pray areas. -It has a info desk with workers in a side room. -I dont think you pay to enter, but there is a museum of the abby right beside/attached to it, and you have to pay for that. Even though i am not religious, it was a nice place to look around.

Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg with abbey which was built in 7th century!Had a great time there to visit museum with my boyfriend too.A good chance there to read and learn history of Echternach as well.

Stunning old Abbey with marvellous old architecture and amazing history. The inside of the Abbey is serene and calming and well worth a visit when in town. There’s a free history museum in the Abbey and also don’t miss the underground ancient crypt to truly go back in time!

Absolutely beautiful venue (town hall type) in the historic town centre. Professional, friendly & helpful staff. I'm more than happy to be back to play here again.

A huge 'Thank you!' to the lady at the ticket office/counter for her assistance with the Ronan Keating concert. We had an amazing evening and the whole experience, including the friendliness of everyone involved with the event that we got in contact with, created wonderful memories for forever. (If the lady mentioned above reads this: we're the ones who sat on the stone wall)

Echternach & Mullerthal Trail are undeniably a place of exceptional beauty, with their stunning natural surroundings that leave you in awe. However, my experience on the hiking trails left me somewhat frustrated due to the confusing signage. One notable issue is that the hiking signs for different directions share the same name, creating unnecessary navigational challenges. Assigning distinct names for various directions would greatly improve the overall hiking experience. For example, the photograph I've posted below, clearly shows the Mullerthal Trail - Route 1 sign is pointing in two contradictory directions. Furthermore, there were multiple instances where hiking signs appeared approximately 50 meters after making a crucial directional choice, causing confusion and unnecessary detours. Placing these signs before the decision point would ensure a smoother and more enjoyable exploration of this otherwise picturesque destination.
Afroz H — Google review
Modern multipurpose location in the heart of Echternach. Highly recommend for it's a variety of events such as readings, concerts and plays. Parking can be a bit tricky, inside the Abby or parking "A Kack" are the best choices.

Hiking Trails
Nice and challenging hiking trail from Gorges du Loup to Huel Lee, approx 5 km and 90 mins walk.
Paul L — Google review
It was a beautiful sunny day in March but stepping into the Gorges Du Loupe was like entering another world. It feels like a prehistoric landscape, with towering rock faces and dense tree cover, even though there were no leaves yet on the trees. I followed the E1 circuit, starting and ending in Echternach, going anti-clockwise, some 14km which took around 3.5 hours. Heading up to the gorge and onward to the Labyrinth involved a steep climb and slippery dark stone steps for the first few kilometres. I found it very slow going, climbing up and down, watching my feet the whole time. After the first 5km or so, the route was much easier, with more gentle climbs up and down, mainly along a forest trail on a sandy track. All the various routes are extremely well signposted throughout – there were only a couple of moments of wondering which way to go next and it very quickly became clear. Plenty of resting points, bridges and rippling streams to enjoy. Not too busy, even though it was a sunny Saturday, but enough people on the quieter stretches of the route that there wasn't that 'what if' that can come when hiking solo. The first pic shows the steps up through the gorge, then the view down from the 'bridge' which extends across to give a panoramic view out over the countryside and over the gorge below - as per second pic. Also a map track for the route - in two sections as I stopped to eat lunch after the first 8km - and a flavour of the elevation of the first stretch, and my very slow pace!
Maggie T — Google review
Beautiful trail which leads to an incredibly nice viewpoint over Echternach. Takes about a half an hour walk from the Bel Air hotel / bus stop to get there. Across this hotel walk up the small steps, go left and follow the trail until you reach the paved road. Take a right here, so don't keep following the E1 trail. You should notice a colorful sign with Wolfsschlucht there pointing you to walk up right off the stone wall building. Follow that trail going up. At the intersection keep right following the sign pointing to the Mullertal trail in 50 meters. Once you get to the sign post with many different routes and directions take the route going up. Just follow this trail and after some time you'll get to a point with steps going up at both sides and steps going down if you go straight. Take the steps up on the right and you'll get to the viewpoint. Even when raining badly you can still walk this trail. Not that muddy and quite a bit covered by trees.

This cliff is really a highlight of the Mullerthal Trail! Take hike E1 to pass by it from Berdorf to Echternach (or the other way around). Don’t miss this spot!

Ancient Ruins
When visiting Echternach, Luxembourg, a must-see attraction is the Roman Villa Echternach. This historical site offers a unique insight into the area's past, featuring well-preserved ruins dating back to the 1st and 4th centuries AD. The villa is located in a beautiful park with various activities such as playgrounds and fishing spots. It's an ideal place for hiking, biking, and walking.
Small site on the remains of a Roman villa to visit during a getaway to Lake Echternach. The small museum on the remains of the villa is free and at the entrance, in the reception center, you will find some models and reconstructions of scenes allowing you to have a good overview of the daily life of the people who lived in this villa. In the remains, there are many explanatory panels. In the middle of the remains of the Roman villa is a large pond / Piscina which is home to curious carp and which approach to look at who is at the edge of the pond.

We took the bus from Consdorf to Echternach and stumbled across this Roman vills ruin. Frre entry in and it's quite interesting. Nice walk around the lake and 20 minutes away from the town centre.

The site of an excavated roman villa. Just the foundations remain but the information provided helps bring it to life. The small museum contains some interesting information as long as you are not too knowledgeable already. All of it is free
Floris H — Google review
The museum was close in winter (2024), but we could see it from a platform, and it had some explanations and a model of the Villa.
Julián G — Google review
Suitable for hiking, biking, and walking. You can have lunch their or bring yours to set over the grass in the Esch garden and do grilling, fishing, or even swimm in the lake. Be careful, in summer there are snakes, not dangerous because they are small but be careful and stay at the places that other people stay on
Areeg E — Google review
A must-see in Echternach. Nice Roman Villa with a small expo-space that clearly shows the life in and phases of this villa. The visit is also free. Unfortunately you can only pay with cash in the museum shop. The stairs in the villa need a bit of maintenance. Some of them are loose and need replacement.
Jeska P — Google review
Remaince of a Roman villa. Access to the grounds is free. Definately worth a visit if you're in the area. Unfortunately all tourist information is in France and German only.
Roy G — Google review
It's OK but I recommend the Roman ruins in Trier over this. If you're there in the area, it's worth stopping as it is free. It only takes about 30 minutes to go through the whole area. The information boards are in Luxembourgish and French so be prepared to use Google translate. If you have kids, there is an amazing playground across the path from it

Lac d'Echternach is a charming artificial lake in Europe, surrounded by a lush forest. It offers various recreational activities such as fishing with a permit, pedal boating, and swimming in designated areas. The park around the lake features shaded walking trails, play areas for children, and even remnants of a Roman villa to explore. Visitors can also enjoy amenities like a restaurant and sunbathing beaches.
Picturesque lake with views of the hills next to it. The path around the lake is roughly 3km long and it is extremely peaceful. Has a large children’s playground, a restaurant, youth hostel with climbing facilities and a bar next to the part of the lake that you can swim in. This section also has changing cabins and showers for when going for a swim, highly recommended to come here to unwind and spend a relaxing and sunny morning and afternoon.

Beautiful lake ! Has a gorgeous outback and a walking track around it...surrounded with a mild forest area... Boating is a good past time here and the water is really clean... A great place to spend a free sunny day. Has BBQ spots spread around the lake, there is also a restaurant on the eastern side of it. Swimming is not allowed but there are paddleboats for rental and trampolines as a fun past time. Great spot!

Little bit over crowded, but we like to walk around, it's little more than 4 kilometers around. Good for bicycles or rollers. There are fun and big playground for children. Lots of place grill with your family, or just to lay down and enjoy sun.

Lovely place for family! Great spot for summer with beach. Swimming is possible as well!
Geoffroy V — Google review
With a lake situated in this area you might expect that it will be a tempting lake to take a swim in but it isn't. It's smelly and it looks dirty. Around the lake there are toilets and showers which make it a perfect spot to do sports or make a walk. Can get very crowded in the weekend.

Restaurant Pizzeria Du Passage is a cozy dining spot located in Echternach, Luxembourg. It offers a varied menu featuring delicious pizzas and other European dishes. Visitors can enjoy the warm ambiance and excellent service while savoring their meals. The restaurant is a popular choice for both locals and tourists exploring the charming town of Echternach.
Hello, I am a local artist collaborating with the restaurant owner. :-) My artist name is Wasajoda, my real name Joël. I am living myself in the region and I take the pictures for my works in my surroundings. One of the works for instance features part of Lake Echternach. Can you find out which one ? My works of photographic abstract art decorate four of the walls in Restaurant Pizzeria du Passage. You can enjoy them while eating at the restaurant's ground floor. They're not for sale though, as they belong to the restaurant owner himself. ;-)

We searched up a restaurant for lunch after a hike on part of the Mullerthal trail. Happily found this place in a small passage as its namesake off the main plaza. The pizzas were generous in size and nicely cooked. The chicken in the salad was very tough and stringey. We were lucky to score an outside table in the shade without too much of an incline.

Must go here! We really liked the food. The Pizza’s are authentic, Italian from the wood stove. You must try when you are in Echternach. You have to walk in to the small tunnel at the market square and you will find them at the end of the alley. Personel is very friendly.

Sitting outside gives a nice atmosphere, especially when it's warm. Would like to give a 5 star rating as the spaghetti with clams was especially good. The lasagna however was cold on the inside, taking away somewhat of the experience, taste was oke. Staff is friendly and attentive. In general good quality for given price

(Translated by Google) Very nice brasserie with authentic German specialties! We had a simple mission: find a good sausage and mash and good beer. Mission accomplished! No fuss, just a plate that was as satisfying as we'd hoped. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and good beer = happy stomach 😁 What more could you ask for? I was happy – and so was my plate, apparently; it disappeared in 5 minutes 🫣 I would have ordered dessert, but you know, in life you have to be sensible 😋 (Original) Brasserie très sympa avec de vraies spécialités allemandes !

(Translated by Google) From the outside, the restaurant looks nice, but the food was prepared without love or seasoning; barely any seasoning, the chicken very dry and barely warm, the spare ribs unmarinated and overcooked; all you could taste was the sauce. The lettuce was roughly chopped and dumped in a bowl with a generous amount of ready-made salad dressing. A shame. Jammer.

Restaurant
Lakeside Echternach is a restaurant located directly on the shore of the Echternach Lake in Luxembourg. It offers a menu featuring a variety of dishes including appetizers, soups, main courses, and desserts. The restaurant provides a picturesque view of the lake and has received positive feedback for its food and wine selection. With friendly staff and a COVID-safe environment, it's an ideal place to enjoy dining by the lake.
My family had an amazing time this sunday at Lake Echternach restaurant. The food is amazing, the service is friendly and I would like to thank for the team who is doing extra mile to my daughter by making her a nice bunny from the paper towel. Will come back again.
Tineke L — Google review
We had a decent meal at Lakeside Echternach, enjoying the beautiful setting right by the lake. The highlight of our visit was definitely the atmosphere, our table outside offered a stunning view of the lake, making the whole experience very peaceful and relaxing. For food, we tried some asparagus dishes, a steak, and accompanied it all with a refreshing Hugo cocktail and a few beers. The food was solid, decent at best, the cocktail was lacking the signature flavor. The steak was good, and the asparagus dishes were ok. The portions were just ok . The service was ok throughout the meal. The chocolate cake was not very exciting. The food was pricey; the service and food quality could be improved. Overall, it was a decent experience but the setting is what elevates it, which is good for a relaxed time in nature. Perfect for a beer or wine and some finger food.

Excellent! The Menu for the Restodays was really good and one of the restaurant where the quantity is big enough for the price. I defenetly recommand this restaurant even without Restodays! The food is very good and high quality.
Elisabeth B — Google review
Despite signs asking us to wait, no one bothered to seat us — not even when staff were clearly available and it wasn’t busy. When we asked for help, we were met with annoyed looks. Our drinks order was wrong, and the tea glass was dirty, smeared with blue paint. A waitress then approached our table, silent and visibly disinterested, just staring at us with a notepad. That was the final straw: we paid and left without eating. If you’re tempted by the pretty view, do yourself a favor — bring a picnic and avoid Lakeside altogether.
Sven H — Google review
The setting is quite pleasant, and a few members of the staff were genuinely warm and welcoming, which I appreciated. However, the quality of the food was deeply disappointing. I wouldn’t normally leave a negative review, but I felt compelled to after being asked to pay full price for a dish I could barely eat—poorly prepared and made with what seemed to be very low-quality ingredients. Given the high prices, I expected much better. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a very underwhelming culinary experience.
Seb S — Google review
Absolutely in-acceptable customer service. Very rude at the beginning and although there were 6+ waiters around, they did not bring cutlery whatsoever even when the food arrived. When asked about it, no reaction. Food is overpriced and under-seasoned, burger served cold. not worth the high prices.
Helene R — Google review
The restaurant has a nice view and is very modern but that does not make them starcooks asking those tremendous prices!!! Main dishes are served in ridiculous portions, and it is not even that good. We all went home hungry!!! Starters are not bigger than an egg, starting at around 20€! Main dishes around 30€ an desserts around 20€ as well. It is a nice wedding location e.g. but I will never come back.
Izibi S — Google review
In order to select the perfect place for our wedding meal, we planned an extended lunch, we stopped by this gem. Although we only had a cold drink we were served quickly, politely, in three languages. The view over the lake from the splendid terrace is magnificent, so we selected it for the big day. We reserved a table for 7 in the shade as a hot day was forecast. We were given the choice to select from their menu or we could ask for something to or own liking. On arrival everything was as expected, waiting for us. The service was absolutely perfect, attentive but not in your face, quick, clean, and without fault. The wine menu (without counting) showed close to 100 different wines. When we asked for a recommendation we received one including reasoning, so not just a sales pitch. One particular small dish has some alcohol in it, one of or guests didn't like that and without hesitation was offered an alternative very quickly. The food was perfectly cooked, tasted absolutely fantastic, and its presentation was gorgeous. A five course wedding meal including champagne, wine, coffee, digestive for 6 people for about €500 and perfect service is not too much. We would come here again and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Banquet hall
Hôtel Bel-Air, Sport & Wellness is an elegant hotel set on 4 hectares of parkland, offering a refined restaurant, a sophisticated piano lounge, and a luxurious spa. Located just a short drive from the German border and the medieval town of Echternach, it provides easy access to local attractions such as the Basilica of St. Willibrord. The hotel features amenities including a steam room and sauna for guests to enjoy.
I have had the pleasure of having a Sunday lunch at Restaurant Belair in Echternach, and it was a truly interesting experience. Nestled in a serene woodland setting, the restaurant offers a beautiful view of the surrounding nature, which adds to the overall ambiance. The menu is a delightful blend of French and German influences, featuring fresh, local ingredients. We have chosen the 5-course menu and started our meal with a delicious soup, followed by a vitello tonnato, a sorbet and a fish filet on a crisp skin. All were exquisitely prepared and presented. I must say that I was surprised by the delicious cuisine which I didn’t expect Mediterranean style. For my taste, they should continue the collaboration with that cook, as he puts in all influences that represent Luxembourg, namely Luxembourgish, German, French and Mediterranean (here Italian and Portuguese). The service was impeccable, with the staff being both attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent wine recommendations by glass that perfectly complemented our dishes. The dessert was equally impressive, with a beautiful plate arrangement. One of the highlights of our visit was the panoramic view from the restaurant’s terrace, which provided a stunning backdrop for our meal. The attention to detail in both the food and the setting made for a good dining experience. Overall, Restaurant Belair is a must-visit for anyone in Echternach looking for a high-quality dining experience. The combination of excellent cuisine, attentive service, and a beautiful setting makes it a top choice. I highly recommend it and I will return! Thanks also for accepting exceptionally our dog Toffee.

Hotel Bel Air Trail & Wellness - never judge a book by its cover or a hotel by its online photos! Hotel Bel Air is beyond tired and lost the will to live around the same time as Adolf. It requires a complete physical and emotional overhaul. There’s no working pool, conveniently omitted online and by staff when booking. What was a pool is now a ‘relaxing think tank’, with loungers to lie in, gaze up at the ceiling, and dream of what it must have been like to float around. A true anti-climax. Similarly, the sky-blue fountain was in reality toxic green. Nemo would have preferred to remain lost, or even deep-fried and served with chips than hang out here. The rooms? Well they are deceased by hotel standards, with 100% intruder-proof flooring as every inch appears to squeak. As you remain motionless on your bed, for fear of disturbing anyone, the rattle, clonk, smash of the hotel trolley pushed by employees penetrates the airwaves. Noise travels like an American complaining in this place. All guests had the same grievances. Dinner in the empty restaurant somehow required advance booking, presumably to prepare the freezer. The maître d’ alternated between charismatic and inconvenienced, his life imploding every 20 minutes. Can only imagine the ambience we experienced is similar to the Dignitas waiting room, quiet, soulless, yet strangely comforting in knowing that soon it will all be over. There was no feeling of wellness upon leaving, only a very long trail of deep, profound regret. Not worth the money. Not worth any money. We learned the manager was the daughter of the former owner, so perhaps there’s a grand refurb planned, we hope so; despite our miserable stay there was evidently a past. And if there is to be a future, why not be honest with guests upfront and downplay expectations? I’m sure all the stops are pulled for wedding events when the sun’s shining, but can’t imagine any hotel surviving like this. The staff bar one were charming and helpful, but could not sell a ‘once was’ establishment. Even the red elephant appeared to be running away. We had booked for longer, but fate had other plans; hallelujah, we vacated early.

Nice location, superb food and optimal selection of wine with professional service. The location is well placed in the heart of the Luxembourg forest and is well maintained and clean. The plates were delicious, with a good choice between the versions consistencies and temperatures of the ingredients. The service was professional and friendly. The price during restodays was aligned with the quality. Overall a good culinary experience

a little bit old looking in the whole hotel and we hear cars on the road when the room is on road-side. We weren't warned in advance that the swimming pool was without any water. The welcoming of the guys downstairs was great though, with a 15min free back massage and a soap gift. Top welcoming at the reception desk, swimming pool, massages, and breakfast at the restaurant. A refresh of the hotel and the garden would be great for this very god potential hotel. Thank you

My mum and her boyfriend booked a night at this supposed 4 star hotel to be close to the hiking trails but really it was a mockery. Their room was falling apart, tapestry was coming off the wall, the room had an old and unclean smell, the water in the bathroom kept fluctuating - from freezing to boiling - which made it impossible for them to take showers. They couldn't even bear staying the night. Before leaving, they tried explaining it at reception, (maybe they had simply been unlucky with their room and the hotel could provide them with better one for the night, because the reviews on here are actually quite positive so it was possible) but they were turned away without as much as a partial refund or apology. And the staff was simply miserable and unfriendly as well, it made the entire situation all the worse unfortunately.
Rebeca — Google review
At time of booking the hotel was rated as 4 stars; however, I found it to be 3 stars. Overall I found the hotel to be very clean. 4-5 stars. Junior Suite room view was 'on the park' as advertised, however, the view was mostly obscured through the roof of the extension built underneath, so not according to expectations. Bathroom and shower were substandard. 2-3 stars. The breakfast itself was good, but the service was below standard; the waiter did not clean up tables, and did not understand simple requests; all-in-all he was totally passive and incompetent. 2-3 stars. Swimming pool, spa, and outside terrace area were very good and clean, definitely 4 stars here. The hotel has much more possibilities than currently realised: the garden area and terrace could and should have been put to much more use. My final conclusion is that the hotel has been left to its own for too long which is a pity. Overall score 3 stars.

I really appreciated my stay in the hotel, the calmness, the staff was very friendly and helpfull. I loved the wellness area and spent a relaxing time there. The food is absolutely delicious. The only thing which I think would be to think about are the bathrooms, I mean, for elderly persons a walk-in shower would be more appropriated and secure than the bathtub which is really easy to get in or out. I can only recommend the hotel.

Hohllay Cave, also known as "The Hollow," is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the heart of the Mullerthal region in Echternach, Luxembourg. It boasts stunning rock formations and an impressive underground network that draws nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The surrounding terrain offers various walking routes with beautiful streams, rivers, and diverse ecosystems. While the cave itself may not be extraordinary, its historical significance adds to its allure.
Beautiful walknin the autumn. Must visit fot gorgeous views, autumn leaves, mushrooms and trees hanging from the rocks.

Hohllay Cave offers a wonderful hiking experience for families. The trails are easy to follow, making it perfect for kids. Parking is convenient, and the scenery is stunning. Although we didn't catch a show at the amphitheater, I'm sure it would be a highlight. It's great to see our children enjoying the beautiful nature surrounding the cave. The area is well-maintained and clean, thanks to the maintenance team and fellow visitors. We'll definitely make it a part of our itinerary on future visits to Luxembourg.

Caves are okay. But i would most definitely recommend continuing down the paths and walking part of the trails down there. Loved it!
Jeroen D — Google review
This is a beautiful terrain to walk through. There’s more than one way to get here, and some routes are shorter than others. Even so, the walk is worth it. There are tons of streams and rivers, as well as beautiful microbiomes nestled among the rocks. It can get steep at times, so I recommend an adventurous spirit if you want to take the longer routes. While the cave itself isn’t too amazing, its history kind of makes up for it if you read the signs. As a side note, it’s a great place for a leisurely walk with friends, with lots of natural rocky roofs and benches. there are few bathrooms so i reccomend taking a toilet roll with you.

The villa was accidentally discovered in the 1970s during the construction of a nearby artificial lake. The rooms are nice, but there are a lot of old people and it was pretty empty when I was here. I can imagine it would be a bit cramped when fully booked. It looks clean at first glance, but if you look closely it is a bit dirty everywhere. The staff was allright but not very attentive. But, it is a cheap place to stay and perfect for hiking the trails nearby. Overall allright. The one dinner I had was disgusting though, so I cancelled the other one. And they were working on the building so I got woken up by drilling at 7.30 my whole stay, which was horrible.

Indian restaurant
To begin, I must mention that the cuisine at Restaurant Nepal is truly exceptional, deserving a 5-star rating. Nonetheless, the ambiance could benefit from some improvement as it appears rather basic. However, this drawback is counterbalanced by the amiable and amusing owner hailing from Nepal itself! Dining here is an experience in its own right and I encourage you to give it a try. The food itself was delectable and bursting with flavor.
Best and only option in Echternach for India and Nepali food. Service is too good. Food quality is superb. Owner of the restaurant is calm and helpful.

TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE. READ CAREFULLY BEFORE VISITING THIS SO CALLED RESTAURANT After checking the google reviews, we visited this restaurant Nepal in 50 Route de LuxembourgL-6450 Echternach for dinner around. There were a few tables occupied at the bar area but generally the restaurant looked deserted in the inside area. We were served by one Mr Sunil. When I ordered a mild spicy version of the vegetable curry for which he replied that I am confusing him by saying mild and spicy at the same time. But mild spicy is a term that is used throughout Germany and even in other countries too. However, the way he reacted to it really made me feel awkward even though I tried to explain what mild spicy meant in English and in hindi. I felt that was a very offensive reaction. Then he served us the food which was very average and the Paneer was definitely older than the expiry date. We were then waiting for a while for him to come back to take the next order , however he was not found in the restaurant area. Then my wife went over to the kitchen and asked him to take the order and he replied 'five minutes' without even an eye contact. He then came over to our table and said in a very rude way "what do you want ?" . I was disappointed by the way he asked and I asked him what kind of an attitude that is. He then replied that my wife did not give the order in the kitchen. I am encountering such a situation for the very first time when a customer goes searching for the waiter to give the order ! After that, he left and never returned and refused to serve us any more. We were still not finished with our dinner and we were not able to place any order due to the arrogant behaviour of the waiter. We then decided to leave the restaurant and so we calculated the cost for what we ate and we left that money on the table. While leaving the restaurant, he chased us on the street and was screaming and abusing loudly that we did not pay for our food. But actually he did not see that we had placed the money on the table even though he crossed our table a couple of times after he refused to serve us. Only after I told him the money was on the table, he left us alone. We all went through a very traumatic experience after deciding to eat at this restaurant thinking that we will receive a warm welcome and good food as mentioned on their website, but nothing like that really happened and what just remains is bad memories and a trauma for the whole family that needs a lot of time to heal.

The atmosphere is really nice it looks like a bar/restaurants with locals sitting there. The food was really good I recommend the momo's. Our server hakra was super friendly and let us try their homemade chili sauce after a nice chat. I will definitely come back next time i visit echternach!

This Indian restaurant is our go-to spot every time we visit Echternach. The mango lassi is refreshing and not overly sweet, making it a good companion to the meal without feeling to heavy. For starters, we usually opt for the vegetable pakora. Almost every Indian restaurant we went to had their own take on pakora or bhaji, and this one is crispy and rich in flavor. Our favorite main dish is the vegetable tandoori. When you're on holiday vegetables often take a backseat in restaurant menus. This one is a standout, it's loaded with vegetables and complemented by paneer to add depth. The flavors are simply incredible. The mushrooms in particular are prepared beautifully. Pair it with a garlic naan and you have the perfect meal. The setting may feel a bit unusual at first but the friendly service and good food keeps us coming back!

First of all, I would like to say that the food is definitely a 5 star! However, the ambience is quite basic and could do with an upgrade. But the friendly and funny owner (who originally comes from Nepal!) makes up for it! It is an experience on its own to have dinner here and I invite you to give it a try. We loved the food, it was very tasty. And if you like spicy: just ask for the special pepper sauce from Nepal ;)

We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly return again if we come to Luxembourg. The hotel is in a nice location, very close to the towns of Echternach and Berdorf with excellent restaurant choices nearby. The service at Hotel Au Vieux Moulin was excellent, the lady at reception was very friendly, attentive and catered to our wishes with genuine kindness. The bed was very comfortable and our room had a spa bath which was great after the whole day of hiking in Mullerthal area. The hikes were great, the food in the area was excellent and service was very friendly and genuine (nice change from Amsterdam). We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant, but had a couple of Dame Blanches made for us to have on the terrace which we absolutely loved. Based on that we'd say trying hotel's restaurant is recommended (if you have the budget for it). The only small thing we'd recommend to improve is having some fresh berries, fruit or vegetables at the breakfast buffet.

The Basilica of Saint Willibrord is a beautifully restored church located in historic Echternach. It features an interesting history and houses the relics of Willibrord in its crypt, along with an ancient well. While not as ornate as some European churches, it has its own unique beauty. Visitors can explore the museum and catacombs, which are worth checking out during a half-hour to an hour visit.
Basilica from the 11th Century. The interior is very dark despite the few stained glass windows. You can freely visit the white crypt (Merovingian crypt) where the tomb of St. Willibrord is located and do not miss the small museum on the abbey and its famous dancing procession which is located in one of the annexes of the Basilica. There is also a museum dedicated to the History and Treasure of the Abbey, but it is located outside the basilica, near the current high school.

Beautiful church, always in awe of the stained glass in churches. Especially the Rose window behind the organ here. There's a very small museum within the church but everything's in French or German only so didn't understand much. Just next to the Basilica, in the basement is the Abbey of Echternach Museum which I found more interesting.

Specialty Museums
The Abbey Museum, located in the picturesque town of Echternach, Luxembourg, is a must-visit attraction for history enthusiasts. Housed in the former abbey complex dating back to the 7th century, this museum offers a unique opportunity to delve into the region's cultural heritage. Visitors can explore numerous manuscripts and illuminations on display, including facsimiles. The museum also features a mosaic from a Roman villa in Echternach and an array of religious objects.
Just next to the Basilica, in the basement is the Abbey of Echternach Museum. €3 entrance fee, including free use of the audio guide. Thankful for an English audio guide as the captions accompanying the exhibits are only in French and German. Set in the old wine cellar underground, it is now a showcase of artefacts from site of the first Abbey of Saint Willibrord, the collection of scriptures is the highlight here. Such as the Book of Kells, which till today they haven't figured out how the drawings in the book is done to that level of precision in those days. Then there's the Codex Aureus Epternacensis - the Golden Book of Echternach, dating back to 1045. The name comes from the gold paint used in the scripture. Also the largest, well preserved book from medieval times. At the end of the museum lies the original site of 2 coffins found here, believed to be the remains of the very first scribes to have followed Saint Willibrord from Ireland. From the remains, it appears they could be almost 2m tall and with scoliosis (based on the curved spine skeleton) due to prolonged sitting while executing their duties. I enjoyed the quiet walk thru the museum, which I had exclusively to myself for most of the hour that I was there.

Small museum relating to the abtei of Echternach. 3€ entry (nur bar bezahlen). Contains some interesting info on st. Willibrord and his context who founded the abbey. A lot of information on bookmaking as it is located in the old scriptorium.

Included in the Luxembourg Pass. It was interesting. There were on display books of gone by era. I would not suggest anyone to take a detour to Echternach only for this museum. Should you visit without the pass (for the Asians)? Only if you are a history bluff!

Nestled away in the charming town of Echternach, the Orangerie is a delightful gem that often escapes the notice of many travelers. While it may not boast the bustling energy found elsewhere in town, its serene beauty makes it a must-visit spot for those seeking picturesque landscapes. Established during the 18th-century reconstruction of Echternach Abbey, this enchanting garden features cross-shaped pathways and a central water basin designed by architect Leopold Durand.

(Translated by Google) During the reconstruction of Echternach Abbey in the 18th century, great importance was attached to the development of the surroundings of the new buildings. In 1736, a garden with an orangery was created on the site of the old wall, opposite the large courtyard. The cross-shaped paths and the central water basin reveal the signature of architect Leopold Durand who drew the plans. The central axis of the garden was decorated with sculptures, most of which have disappeared. At the time of the French Revolution, there were no fewer than 400 fruit trees in the garden of the orangery. The statues that still stand today represent the four seasons.

(Translated by Google) The hill in the city center, where the Saint Peter and Paul Church now stands, was already inhabited in Roman times. In the 3rd century, a fortification with 4 towers and a guard post was built to guard the passage of the Sûre. The 12 meter deep well in the parish hall also dates from this period. In the deed of donation of Abbess Irmina von Oeren (Trier) to the monk Willibrord (698) already mentioned a church and a small monastery. From 1828 to 1906, the relics of Saint Willibrord were kept in a Baroque wooden box in the St. Peter and Paul Church, so that at that time the dance procession ended here. As an expression of the dance procession, "Echternach procession" is used to illustrate how a process can be unnecessarily slow or inefficient. Three steps forward, two steps back. The dance procession takes place every year on the Tuesday after Pentecost. In 2008, an important restoration of the painting of the vault in the church from the end of the Renaissance took place Behind the church is "Place Irmine" In 1998, the foundation of the Monastery of Echternach 1300 years ago was commemorated. On the occasion of this anniversary, the square was renamed "Place Irmine". The decorations on the stones are reminiscent of the writing and painting in the books brought along by the missionaries. Place Irmine also houses the garden pavilion with a parlodrome in front of it, with texts about Echternach in 5 different languages. Situated within the Birkelt village in the scenic Mullerthal region, this restaurant is open to all visitors. Whether you're looking for vegan or vegetarian options or simply want to enjoy a healthy meal, Restaurant Aal Eechternoach has something for everyone.
In this restaurant, vegan is far more than a nice-to-have add-on. It‘s more like a normal part of the menue. Very creative and tasty dishes (I for example had the lentil roast). The only aspect that bothered me was the fact that we waited over 30 minutes until our food arrived.
Samia J — Google review
The location is very charming. A really nice place with a welcoming atmosphere. I was happy by the gluten free and vegan options on the menu! It was difficult to choose as everything seemed so good. The dishes were full of delicious flavor, beautifully prepared, and satisfying. The desserts were tasteful, with generous portions. The service was attentive and friendly. Definitely a great spot to enjoy good food or drinks.

Vegan meals are their specialty and there are so many delicious meals and desserts on the menu, it was difficult to choose! I ate the beetroot gnocchi and my partner (not vegan) a burger. Dessert was heaven too! Big portions, really very tasty and creative, friendly service, we loved it very much and definitely recommend it!

To me, it’s a big mystery how this place doesn’t have a Michelin star yet. Absolutely, in the truest meaning of the word, outstanding restaurant. I’d even say Aal Eechternoach would be in my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time, after eating there last Saturday. As a vegetarian, I opened the menu and I was just blown away by how many options there were to choose from. The waitress was one of the best (if not The best) waitresses I’ve ever seen. She didn’t come to the table too often, but just regularly enough that we felt like guests and not like customers. And the taste of the plates. O. My. Days. Absolutely brilliant. We had a table inside and the atmosphere was perfect. Not too noisy, but just right. I highly recommend everyone to go experience Aal Eechternoach for themselves and find out how great this place is.

The food was ok, the lady got our order wrong to start, it was very expensive for a chicken burger. Myself and daughter had the same meal both different sizes one had a very small piece of chicken in side little amount of bacon and cheese. We waited over 40 mins for some burgers and chips, people were smoking and lots of wasps around us. We did ask to sit inside but were told they were full but when we went in to the toilet there were lots of space. My husband had a smash burger and said it was nice. My daughter had a gluten free burger she said it was nice but could have had more cheese and bacon inside as again very little amount and lots of bread. It was a shame as Inside did look very nice.

I came with my family for dinner, our hopes were high for this place. We waited for about an hour and a half just for our Sushis to arrive. This is completely outrageous, and the quality of communication between waitstaff is at its lowest. Amazed me, honestly, how poor the quality of service can be in such fine restaurant. The kids were crying as all of us were starving. The food had a very good quality, but not quite worth the wait! This has completely ruined our evening, and mood on a special occasion…

Very good sushi and great service 👌 We were visiting Echternach for the day and when we got out of the car and walked towards the city center we came across Shabu. Our family really loves sushi even my two year old nephew. The weather was beautiful so we asked to be seated outside. Unfortunately there were so many wasps that scared my nephew. This resulted in us asking to be seated inside. The staff helped kindly and quickly to make this possible. For lunch we ordered 4 big rolls with 8 pieces of sushi 🍣 this was enough for us (3 adults and a toddler) We really loved the roll with shrimp and asparagus. I haven’t had much sushi that was so tasty like they have here. So very much recommend!

I came here hungry and not expecting anything because I though what can one get for a buffet worth €11,50 (in Luxembourg at that!) Oh boy, was I wrong! The food actually tasted good, nothing off the charts fabulous, but really decent Chinese food (especially for Europe) The price also included the sushi train/revolving sushi, I only had the salmon nigiri, but it also tasted good. For dessert I had tiramisu (kind of out of place for a Chinese buffet, but whatever) it was spectacular! And even though I spoke German and the waitstaff French, the service was very friendly as well! I left the restaurant full and completely astounded by what a great lunch deal I just had. I would highly recommend to tourists visiting Echternach on a budget. 5stars all around!
