Brasserie
French restaurant
Nestled in the charming town of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, Brasserie Le Courtgain is a delightful spot that perfectly blends history with modern dining. Families are warmly welcomed, making it an ideal choice for those dining with young children. Guests rave about the tender meat dishes and flavorful pepper sauce, while desserts provide a sweet finish to meals. The atmosphere encourages diners to enjoy their food without constant interruptions from staff, allowing for a relaxed experience.
Yes it helps if you speak French but the staff were extremely accommodating for all nationalities that I saw. The food was great. The terrace is slightly apart from the main restaurant/ bar but it’s hardly an issue to walk across the road to pay your bill. Have the fondant au chocolat. It was amazing.
Greig U — Google review
Tucked in the heart of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, this restaurant offers a truly French experience — full of charm, character, and the kind of food that makes you pause and appreciate what it really means to eat out; where you’re reminded that eating out is about more than what's on the plate. It’s about slowing down, soaking in the moment, and connecting — with food, with people, with the place. The food itself was generous and satisfying. I ordered the mussels, and the portion was astounding — almost too many, but in the best kind of way. For the price, it was excellent value. If anything, it could have used a few more chips to balance the dish. My sister chose the croque omelette and praised it highly — a comforting, well-executed classic. While the atmosphere was quintessentially French, the logistics of the outdoor seating could use a little refining. As we were seated in a corner, we ended up being a sort of overflow waiting area, with guests leaning into our space while queuing for tables. It felt a bit claustrophobic, even after we politely asked multiple groups to give us some room. A simple queue system could really improve the experience without taking away from the relaxed vibe. Service was friendly, but we did wait just under 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. On a quiet day this might have been frustrating, but amidst the lively ambiance, it felt more like part of the slow, indulgent pace of a Sunday lunch in France — though just a touch quicker wouldn’t hurt.
E W — Google review
Not great service - managed to give away the table we were waiting for while it was cleared, when we were standing to the side with two young and hungry children. Unfortunately can’t comment on the food!
Felix P — Google review
Avoid at all costs if you do not speak French! They do not serve food until 18:30… so you have to just either sit or order drinks until they start their dinner service. The food itself is okay, nothing to write home about, the steak was chewy and little bland and their burger was just an average with some random salad leaves next to it. They have outside seating, and it was horrible, they had an open trash can near by which attracted a lot of wasps and the staff visibly see us struggle with them and they do not care at all, I would have left, but everything else required reservations (this restaurant did not need reservations it was a first come first serve basis) The staff are rude and do not care at all, the female waiter speaks no English in a tourist town, and the male waiter probably would’ve spat in my food, the whole interaction with them felt very negative as a person who was speaking only English. For payment you have to go to inside of the restaurant across the street, and mention your table number that the waiter tells you. You have to confirm the amount for some reason, as if they want you to add tips.. screw that and you can pay by cash or pin. I would say the McDonalds near by is a better option!
Bob B — Google review
We only sat down for drinks as the kitchen was closed by 15:00, but the waiter spoke English as our French is poor. All in all it was good, it's only day one and will update if we stop for food. So we stopped to have lunch and the hambuger is one of my top ten burger's in the world so tasty juicy and delicious must have!!!!!!!
Richard K — Google review
We were warmly welcomed and asked if we were eating or drinking. After, we were given a menu and our order was promptly taken. Well the food was amazing. If you want to be constantly asked if things are ok, then don't bother going. We were left to eat in peace. When our plates were totally clear, then did the waiter ask if we wanted dessert (he tried his best to persuade us!) My husband had a huge bowl of mussels and frites. I had a burger all washed down with a chardonnay. These guys have had some rough reviews of late....give them a chance...they are doing their best....just be patient...they will come to you.
Jo C — Google review
Very rude unpleasant person working at the bar. They really don't like the English!! I was accused of causing 'trouble' as I asked the location of the toilets after paying the bill.
Janet F — Google review
We stopped here as it looked busy, we weren't disappointed. The food and service were wonderful.

Scenic Railroads
The Railway Bay of Somme - St Valery City Station offers a delightful journey through the enchanting landscapes of Baie de Somme aboard a charming vintage train. This unique experience allows you to connect Saint Valery with Le Crotoy in about an hour, all while enjoying the soothing sounds of nature. The ride is enhanced by passionate volunteer guides who share fascinating stories and insights about the region's history and its scenic beauty. Plus, it's a dog-friendly adventure!
Last year, I had the opportunity to take a trip on the Railway of the Somme, a journey that was as much about history as it was about the picturesque landscapes of northern France. The railway, originally built for military purposes during World War I, now serves as a living museum, offering visitors a unique way to explore the region's history and natural beauty. The trip started at the station, where vintage steam trains, lovingly restored to their former glory, immediately transported me back in time. As the train chugged along, I was struck by the peaceful, rolling countryside that surrounded the tracks—a stark contrast to the turbulent history the area experienced a century ago. The journey provided a poignant reminder of the past, with the train passing by fields that once served as battlefields, now quiet and serene. Onboard, the knowledgeable guides shared stories about the railway's role during the war, explaining how it was used to transport troops, supplies, and the wounded. Their narratives, combined with the historical photos and artifacts displayed in the carriages, brought the history of the Somme to life in a way that was both educational and deeply moving. The Railway of the Somme offers more than just a scenic train ride; it is a journey through history, where the beauty of the landscape is interwoven with the memory of those who lived and fought there. This trip was a memorable and reflective experience, making it a must for history enthusiasts and anyone seeking to connect with the past in a meaningful way.

Fantastic little railway, rolling stock has beautiful carriages with lovely oak seats. We hada terrific lunch on the train which has stopped on the marshes of Bay of the Somne. Excellent food and wine whilst watching Wild Boar and Storks. Wonderful experience. Highly recommended

Fantastic trip, such a joy rumbling through the beautiful countryside on a steam train. Great price 4 of us for about 60 euro return. If you have children, grab the first or last carriage (they swap engines around half way) you can stand right beside the train drivers.

Fabulous journey on the train . One hour . Highly recommend to others . Love the wooden seats on the train x

It takes the train 1 hour to get to Le Crotoy while by car is just 20minutes. The views from the train are more or less the same as from the road. Le Crotoy is not big deal; Valery sur Somme is much, much better.

Historical landmark
When exploring the enchanting "Doors of Paris," one might find themselves captivated by the charm of Saint Valery-sur-Somme, a quaint town nestled along the picturesque Bay of the Somme. This hidden gem boasts a serene atmosphere, especially around the historic Saint-Martin cathedral and Porte Jeanne d'Arc, where you can enjoy a sense of solitude away from bustling tourist spots.
A historical place .
Jayaseelan J — Google review
Saint Valery-sur-Somme is a pretty small town. The area around the Saint-Martin cathedral and the Porte Jeanne d'Arc aren't that much visited. Around that area it feels like you got the town for yourself. When you head down to the beach it becomes clear that people come for the boardwalk - which is indeed a wonderful place to walk. And also for the Rue de la Ferté, the main drag through town. A nice street with endless shopping and dining options. Biking is popular as well, lots of places to rent some. There are very nice bike lanes along the water here. It's really a nice little town with some nice sights. Besides the places mentioned above, make sure to take a look at the Porte de Nevers and make sure to check out the Rue de Moulins. A quiet side street. But very pretty buildings with lovely flowers. A nice sight. All in all very well worth a daytrip. Walking, shopping, eating. A beach, historic sights. It's all there. But - besides the old center - it's a very very busy place. Even during Corona times.

The Herbarium des Remparts is a charming and secluded garden situated above the town, skillfully maintained by dedicated volunteers. This hidden gem comprises various sub-plots, each devoted to unique themes like fragrance, medicinal plants, and even toxic flora. It is worth exploring the back left section as it extends into additional levels. Visitors can also find a small shop offering an array of products such as seeds and insect houses to support this botanical sanctuary.
A bohemian and healing experience among flowers, plants, calm landscape and raw reflections.

Nice little garden. The nearby streets, also planted, add to the ambience
Bob D — Google review
Interesting garden full of edible and medical plants. Don't expect it to be manicured, it is deliberately a bit wild with things self seeding everywhere. Not sure it is worth 10 euros, should probably be only 8 or 9.
Andrew L — Google review
We visited the Herbarium in St. Valérie as part of a vacation at Baie de Somme. This is not a fancy big museum, it's a very subtle, quiet and beautiful place. A fairy garden with hundreds of little corners and flower beds to discover. There is a greater theme in the whole garden, I suppose, but it's the small things to discover, plants and arts that make this place truely special. A clear recommandation.
Birger R — Google review
Interesting little garden with a pleasant artistic vibe. However, nature seemed to getting the upper hand in the planting (which I take it is intentional) but I found it disappointing, especially for €10
Anne S — Google review
Such a lovely place hidden away above the town. Cared for by volunteers who do a superb job of creating gardens within a garden. Each sub-plot is dedicated to an individual theme, scent, medicine and even deadly plants. Be sure to go to the back left if the garden as it continues down into another set of levels. There is a small shop where you can buy seeds and goods such as insect houses to support the garden.

The Chapel of the Marins de Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is a cherished gem among locals, offering a serene escape just a short 10-minute stroll from the town center. Nestled in an idyllic setting, this neo-Gothic chapel boasts stunning views over Cape Hornu and the picturesque Bay of the Somme, creating an atmosphere that feels both tranquil and spiritual.
We were the first in but were very nicely welcomed. The place didn't stay empty for long but filled up downstairs ànd upstairs. My wife had Moules Marinières and liked them, I took the French Paella, didn't regret it. Price was very reasonable even including aperitif, wine and San Pellegrino water.

Interesting old chapel dedicated to fisherman. Nice walk up to the spot overlooking the bay & you can walk back down a different route to the sea.

A beautiful chapel on a hill close to saint valley sur Somme. It's a working one and open when we visited. One downside is there's no parking there, or in the vicinity, so you'll have a walk there

Beautifully restored, but sadly doors locked. Route poorly signposted. Good info board - in English as well as French. Access point to walk across fields & further. Good for birds - saw Linnet.

Neat little seaman's church on top of the hill. Not many things to see. Being a small walk from Cap Hornu, it's worth a visit if you're nearby. Note that the church is not always open for visits.
Jj D — Google review
Beautiful place and setting with great views over the Bay. Didn’t get to see inside as it was closed at the time, so be sure to check opening times before visiting if you wish to peek inside.
Mark F — Google review
From the chapel, a magnificent viewpoint is discovered on Cape Hornu and the Bay of the Somme. The building is neogothic style, built of stone, checkered white stone and flint. The bell tower on the roof is surmounted by a cross over which a gull metal indicates the direction of the wind. Stained glass windows tell stories of Saint Valéry's life. Many ex-votos are affixed to the walls or hung by sailors who, in thanks for their survival, have made a model of their boat1.

Les Remparts Café et Crêperie – Great Crêpes, But Skip the Coffee 🇫🇷☕ Located in the charming town of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, Les Remparts Café et Crêperie offers a lovely setting and genuinely tasty crêpes—definitely worth a stop if you’re in the mood for something sweet or savory. 🥞✨ However, I had high hopes for the coffee, especially after spotting a professional espresso machine behind the counter. Sadly, the cappuccino was one of the worst I’ve had, which was really disappointing. As a coffee lover, I was expecting a lot more. I politely mentioned this to the lady at the front desk—she was very kind and receptive, though she still disagreed that the coffee was bad. Perhaps it’s a regional issue, but it seems that good coffee isn’t the local specialty here. So, if you’re just here for the food, you’ll likely enjoy it. But if coffee is your thing, you might want to get your caffeine fix elsewhere. #LesRemparts #SaintValery #CrepeYesCoffeeNo ☕🇫🇷

La Cambuse is a simple and unpretentious Italian pizzeria that offers value for money. It's described as a small but nice place with friendly service and quick pizza delivery. While some find the prices to be on the higher side, others appreciate it as a good option for a no-fuss lunch. The ambiance is cozy, although some feel there's too much going on in terms of decor.
Amazing pizza, I had the Savoyarde and the wife had the Délicieuse. Can recommend the pizza base creme options, along with a pint of Monaco

Maybe not the best pizzas in the world but def a beautiful view. The experience was a mix between a good pizza, served in a welcoming place and a breathtaking view of a herd of sheeps going for a river bath in the bay of Saint Valery sur Somme. I'd recommend to sit by the window of course.

We got there at 18:10 with three very tired small children. We know the French times to eat are late but my children are not on a French schedule. After 5 minuten off heavy ignoring us sitting outside at the tables one of the employees came out and told us that the restaurant doesn't open until 18:30... It might be the translation but it sounded like come back later... Was it so hard to offer two parents with kids some bread and drinks while the chef and the ovens got ready? Just let us wait a bit longer but be welcoming? We left with three hungry and whining children and did not return.

Located in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, this beautifully renovated restaurant exclusively serves fish dishes made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Larissa J — Google review
Very nice restaurant that serves local seafood and fishes. The ingredients are exploited to their full potential with incredible mariage with herbs and spices, bringing bursts of flavor for most dishes. The only reason for the 4 star would be the pricing/quantity. While the quality was extremely good, we left still hungry despite having a 3 dinner course, due to the small quantities, despite the hefty prices (30+euro for a main dish) Other than that, this place is a must try.
K S — Google review
If you're English you'd better speak brilliant French as no quarter is given. The menu is hand written, but printed!? on a board. The text is too small to read easily with indistinct characters making translating it a real task, especially when you're being hassled to make a choice. The offering we chose was the oysters followed by monkfish and then cheese. Oysters were OK but not the best, monkfish again was OK but lacking in real flavour and the portion size was closer to a starter than a main course. The cheese was again OK but tiny pieces. If it wasn't for the copious amounts of bread we'd have gone elsewhere afterwards to eat a decent meal. Overall poor value for money really don't recommend. Try Le Clos Normand in Martin Eglise as a comparison, chalk and cheese....
Paul E — Google review
When the restaurant first opened, around summer of 2015, we were there and supported it a few times in one trip. A young chef with aspiration cooking the fish that was fished by his dad. Early on, his lovely mum was helping him with service and with orders and things were near perfection. Not a Michelin starred food but this was honest food cooked with passion and by using what the sea gives on the day.The place had a tiny kitchen and a couple of tables outside. Even in Dec. we sat in the cold and enjoyed it. As the chef became known and they acquired the place next door, it became a full and a bigger restaurant. Although the value for money was no longer adequate compared to the service and to the experience but this was still no major issue for us, at all, and we continued to go and to support during our regular visits to St Valery, which were also frequently. Until one day, when we were there and a very rude waitress attended to us. She was very abrupt when we asked questions about items on the menu. She then added insult to injury by not passing to the chef an allergy to gluten. The dish came topped up with a large sourdough toasted bread with part of it sitting in the sauce. I sent it back and to my shock the chef took the bread out and resent the dish in less than a minute. A big, horrific and a non-forgiving mistake from the chef. Of course I didn't touch the dish which was also added to the bill and no apology has been made. Since then, even if Le Mathurin became the only option in the area , we shall not set foot there. Those of you with allergies, just be careful as the chef either doesn't know anything about allergies and/or his distraction along with his obsession with profit overruled his conscience on this day.

We had a wonderful dinner here last night. The food was delicious, wine wonderful and staff very friendly. The kids meal was perfect, and not the usual fare most restaurants propose for kids (they had a turkey breast with a wonderful sauce, mashed potatoes and ratatouille). I would recommend this restaurant highly to anyone!

Lovely restaurant overlooking the marina. Simple menu , but very nice food, and our waiter was very pleasant (and hard working). Not 5* because our waiter was on his own serving over 30 covers, so inevitably service was a little slow. Would recommend a visit, and hopefully management will have more staff available.

(Translated by Google) Menu at 32 euros. Completely consistent value for money. Only one server this day but efficient. Good timing. Tasty and mastered cuisine. Restricted menu which guarantees homemade but each of us (couple with 15 year old teenager) found what they were looking for. Our favorites: ficelle picarde, sea casserole, lemon meringue tartlet A few remarks: very slight overcooking of the poultry supreme and the flaky crab millefeuille. And the main dishes were served to us more lukewarm than hot... The setting is a little dated but calm and comfortable and with a very nice view of the marina. But overall very satisfied with this restaurant that we have wanted to try for a long time... (Original) Menu à 32 euros. Rapport qualité prix tout à fait cohérent. Un seul serveur ce jour mais efficace. Bon timing.

Day 2

Northeast side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northeast side side of town. Start the day off with Accrobranche - Parc Salomon - SAINT VALERY / SOMME, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Théâtre L'École des Garçons. All together, your day would be filled with about 8 hours of non-stop fun.

Accrobranche - Parc Salomon in Saint Valery / Somme is a highly enjoyable and thrilling destination. Situated in a picturesque wooded area, it offers easy accessibility. Visitors can conveniently park at the intermarche car park, between the shop and the calor gas, and access the park through a gate in the fence. This amusement park has various courses to cater to different levels of difficulty.
Beautiful beautiful place. Well organised. Suites all level of adventure. My daughter (9 years old) did the lower tracks. My son (12 years old) loved the higher ones - 10 Meters above ground 😯 Nice picnic tables for those waiting.

Great activity to do in group especially with children. There are 4 different levels and the yellow level is easy to do even if you are scared of height. There is also a very low level for children under 5. Please note there is very low supervision of staff.

Always really fun. Like go ape+++. Lovely wooded spot and easy to get to (park in the intermarche car park between the shop and the calor gas, and there’s a gate in the fence. ) We have been coming for years and finally tried the red course. It was hard! I was stranded on the Tarzan swing twice as I failed the landing. We wimped out of trying the black course and went back to the purple. There is a new safety system so you are always connected, but it does cause issues on the end ladder as it’s hard to line up the clip and clipping point on the way down the ladder. But still a brilliant day out in the trees!
Anne D — Google review
I have been to these sorts of places in the UK but this place stood out form the rest. A bit more rugged and down to earth style of place with a compost toilet and mud tracks rather than tarmac and a full equipped cafe which we quite liked. Really interesting and well designed courses with lots of niche obstacles. Our kids loved it and the staff were very helpful and watching all the time to make sure the kids were clipping in properly etc. Really enjoyed it and would recommend

(Translated by Google) Great experience for young and old. We did the pitchoune course with our 5-year-old grandson, he loved it and did it 3 times. However, our son (an adult) had a close call on the black course. A slightly negative point, if I may say so, be careful for grandmas and grandpas, the markings on the ground are not very visible and you can easily trip over them, and there are not many places to sit. If the children are not independent, do not go alone with your child if you cannot climb a little yourself because it is difficult to help them in certain places.

Take a leisurely stroll along the 3 km stretch, starting from the marina and ending at the beach, passing by medieval city sights and charming shipowners' houses. The quays provide an exceptional view of the Bay of Somme and occasionally offer glimpses of seals in the river.
Saint-Valery-Sur-Somme is a nice place to visit. Has a charming old town, some historical landmarks and a wonderful waterfront location. A nice way to spend some time after a good meal is a walk along the different quais. We parked our car at the very west of town and started walking on the Quai Jeanne D'Arc - a very wide quai with wonderful views towards the sea. Keep walking east and you'll head onto the Quai Du Romerel, which is a bit more narrow. On this weekend there was even a Farmers/Arts & Crafts market with many interesting stalls. Soon you'll find yourself on the Quai Blavet which runs parallel to the town. Nicely along the river Somme. At the port / train station the Quai will be renamed to Quai Lejiolle and keeps going south until the end of town. From there you could continue your walk (or bike tour) along the canal for miles. We stopped there though and walked back on the Quai and then through the charming old town. In the end it's all an endless Quai - but with different names on the several sections. It's really a wonderful thing to do, the views are great and despite many visitors it didn't feel too crowded (except maybe the section with stalls on that day). If you're lucky you might catch a view of the old steam train, which you can take tours in (pets allowed). Surely a beautiful town - we'll be back.

He's a passionate man who perfectly conveys and explains the fauna, flora, geography, and history of the Bay of Somme. The icing on the cake was that we were lucky enough to see a seal in the water very close to the group. Seals and seal pups were there, relaxing on the sandbanks a few hundred meters away. We were able to see them very well thanks to the telescope. The food was lacking taste not to mention the portions were not even close to substantial for its price. They don’t have a menu with an intriguing price. Superlative experience at Schorre for a very large family Sunday lunch. The staff is superb (they called me on the morning of my booking to ask if I would like to eat on the terrace as the weather forecast was so good! There were 16 of us!). The menu was small but the food was divine, with very original fragrances and variations on old themes (e.g the Tomato, Basil and gin Baba for desert). I would highly recommend this beautiful place set slightly away from the hustle and bustle of this very busy little town). A huge thank you to the whole team for making our lunch such a wonderful and easy experience.

This is how it should be done! We went on a wet November evening and enjoyed every second. The staff were very welcoming and helped us with the menu as our French is not up to coping with such a range of ingredients! A choice of 2 starters, mains and puddings with an optional cheese course. Between the two of us we had them all ( except the cheese). Everything was delicious and looked too good to eat. We overcame that bit! If you get a chance, just go We look forward to returning

L'Embarcadère is a delightful dining spot that truly shines when it comes to seafood. Guests rave about the fresh offerings, including a standout fish soup and mussels prepared with a creamy maroilles sauce that has been described as the best they've ever tasted. The menu caters to various tastes, ensuring land-based options are also available for those who prefer them.
Fantastic food, I had the fish soup and my husband had crab for starters. We both had mussels, I had mine with maroilles sauce, and it was so good. I have had mussels in this sauce before, but this was the best sauce I have had. It was creamy and you could really taste the cheese, it was delicious. For dessert we had the crème brûlée made with salted caramel, oh wow, it was the best ever crème brûlée we have ever tasted! Definitely worth a visit, very reasonably priced too. I would highly recommend this place.

La Table des Corderies in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is a delightful restaurant that offers a warm and cozy ambiance. The staff provides lovely service, creating a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. While the desserts are slightly pricey, the overall experience is highly praised by visitors. This was a delightful treat. Restaurant is within spa/hotel but open to non residents. Not cheap but the meal was delightful. Carefully balanced combinations, beautifully presented, and a few little extras thrown in. Staff lovely. Only criticism was there were only two choices for each of the main courses.

My last night in france after a 10 day trip and so much is closed in December - but luckily this one was open - even though I was pretty much the only customer in! It was a three course menu with three choices per course. Everything was absolutely delicious - beautiful presentation, great bright flavours and impeccable service. A special shout out to the patisserie chef - the lemon dessert was spectacular and interesting.

Nestled in the heart of Picardy, the Musée Picarvie is a charming little gem that offers visitors a nostalgic glimpse into the lives of Picards from the early 20th century. This delightful museum showcases an impressive private collection, thoughtfully curated to highlight over 40 traditional professions and their associated tools. As you wander through its exhibits, you'll find yourself transported back in time to a reconstructed village reminiscent of 19th-century life.

A charming and informative little museum that offers a glimpse into everyday life in the Picardie region from centuries past. Picarvie isn’t particularly interactive, but it’s rich in detail and atmosphere. Each section tells its own story with well-preserved objects and lifelike scenes. It opens at 13:30, so it’s perfect for a relaxed afternoon stop, especially if you're caught in the rain and need a cosy spot to explore. The museum walks you through different parts of rural life from trades and crafts to schoolrooms and community spaces, and gives you a real sense of how people lived and worked.

(Translated by Google) This is the kind of museum you absolutely must visit with your children, with the new generations, to show them and explain what life was like before. For some of us, it's a leap into the past and a source of nostalgia. There's bound to be something there that reminds us of our grandparents. :-) For others, it's a total discovery. Just to think that electronics didn't exist, nor did "made in China," hot water coming out of the faucet, or the absence of a flushing toilet, etc. ...etc. They can't believe how life was like before. I will ALWAYS thank and support the people who make this kind of transmission possible for future generations. This type of museum is incredibly rich. Pl. des Pilotes is the starting point for a delightful promenade that offers more than just Sunday markets. For a unique experience, visit La Sardine on Rue de la Ferte where Anne France shares her passion for Somme Bay zero-carbon products in English. Historical landmark
Porte de Nevers, a 16th-century gate, serves as the entrance to the medieval part of the city. Constructed from sandstone, flint, and brick, it stands tall with a pointed design and is built on top of an older structure. The gate gets its name from the coat of arms of the Duke of Gonzague-Nevers displayed above its entrance.
Entrance to the incredible old quarter of St Valary. The streets are narrow and filled with character architecture that makes your head turn at every step. Continue on up and you will come to probably the best overall view of the Somme estuary in St Valary.

Above the entrance, one can see the two bays that allowed the passage of the chains to go up the drawbridge. Above, a coat of arms bearing the arms of the Duke of Gonzague-Nevers remains, surmounted by the motto "fides" which was for a long time that of the city, in memory of the participation of the municipal militia in the Battle of Bouvines (1214). The apartment windows, occupied by the current presbytery, were the former guardhouse. Under the vault, the traces of grooves indicate the passage of the portcullis. (Translated by Google) The "Guillaume Gate," also called the "Upper Gate" or "Joan of Arc Gate," in memory of her passage through it in December 1430 before going to Rouen to be judged, is one of the oldest remains in the city. The two towers were apparently already in existence during the forced stopover of the fleet of the Duke of Normandy, William the Conqueror, in 1066, on his way to conquer England. This is where the gate's name comes from. Joan of Arc, coming from Le Crotoy, passed through this gate on December 20, 1430, on her way to Rouen. In 1907, the gate was listed as a historic monument. Great food and cozy atmosphere. Ignored the bad reviews and took a shot with our party of 4. We were impressed with the varied menus and the omelet my uncle had was the greatest thing he had ever eaten. Just a great experience overall. We want to thank our server whose name we never got. She was working so hard and was still attentive to us. Thank you!

Service was OK, not super friendly but still friendly so not really complaining about it. The food however, especially when you get fish on your plate that was prepared in advance. It should be cooked on the spot instead of something that looks and tastes microwaved. It's a place that prioritizes efficiency. We didn't have to wait long for our orders to arrive which is a plus. Compared to the other places, food wise this was no match. We did love the view, it has a great location and is right across the square where the Sunday market is. If they can improve the food, this would be a much better place instantly.
Sven B — Google review
Food was ok. The fish with the choucroute appeared to be defrosted and the shrimps were way overcooked. On the other hand my Entrecôte was good. Cuisson was spot on. But the food is only part of the experience. We were ignored over and over again. In the end I went up to the register to pay and we didn't bother with ordering desert. When the waitress passes my table multiple times without looking at us but serving, taking orders and helping others it is time to leave and never come back.
Jan-Peter B — Google review
Sheltered out of the rain. Plat de jour (welch) good portion. Too much mustard in the sauce. Salty and tarte. So okay, but not great. But dry inside out of the rain!
Harry S — Google review
Not a great range of foods available however I can recommend the sea bream, beautiful sauce and a decent size fish. We were a group of 10 and arrived 5 minutes before they "opened", they could have let us in to get some shade as it was a very hot day but we're made to wait. Apart from this the service was nice and friendly.
David C — Google review
The only good thing was that we sat in the shade. We ordered a steak, because we have been eating seafood a lot on this trip. Frankly I wouldn't have served it to a dog. But the worst was the wine. Ordered the recommended red wine and it was disgusting. Eaten a lot in France and elsewhere and this place is terrible, really down there with the worst meals I have ever had.
Colin B — Google review
Poor Service, slow and not friendly We had to wait for our main meal Stingray and fries for 30mins whilst other guests have already been served and eating. In addition, the stingray fish was bitter, bland and not fresh. I will not come here again.
Radiah B — Google review
Not a very welcoming Bistro . 4 adults in our group , we pulled 2 tables together so we could sit close, only to be told " 2 & 2 "by a rather rude young lady . Moved to a table right in a tight corner , covered in dead flies , the windows obviously hadn't been cleaned in quite some time , so we left and went else where . Would strongly recommend this place is avoided . So many better more welcoming restaurants in town. Try " La Civette "much much nicer .

Fantastic little Creperie. We had the Traditional and Picardie, plus a couple of drinks. Great value, wonderful staff and possibly the best crepes we've had in France. Highly recommended.

I do not recommend this restaurant. The dishes are too expensive compared to the meager amount of ingredients in the galette. The vegetarian option is like 100 kcal. I ended up more hungry than before coming. Also, the "hot chocolate" is not a chocolate all but a watery milk with some traces of cocoa. This restaurant is a tourist trap.

Just a short stroll from the picturesque bay, this inviting hotel features 25 uniquely designed rooms that offer stunning views of the sea. Only stayed for one night out of season, but made very welcome and had a beautiful room with stunning views over the Canal de la Somme and the Seine. Very well located in the heart of the old town.

lovely hotel, nice service too .... but the room was so dark we couldn't read! three tiny little lamps are just not enough. and in this century, people need electric plugs, to charge devices.
Ruth M — Google review
Lovely little boutique hotel right in the city centre with amazing views on the bay (from superior rooms and the bar) and with a nice bistrot restaurant attached. Lovely staff willing to help. Not always easy to get through on the phone though! Parking isn’t easy but cars can drop off passengers and luggage at the door even if it is in the pedestrian zone (just move the barrier!) then park elsewhere at reduced price if asked at the front desk!
A D — Google review
Very clean, quiet except for the noise coming from the street. The room was very hot (we stayed in August) with no air-conditioning. You should also know that you have to park your car outside the city center, which means that you have to walk with your luggage to the hotel. Not a major drawback but still important to know.

Gourmet grocery store
Restaurant
Les Mets de L'Estran is a delightful spot that combines the charm of a regional product boutique with the warmth of a casual eatery. Nestled at the foot of a medieval city, this cozy establishment offers an inviting atmosphere where you can enjoy excellent service and engage in pleasant conversation without background noise. The menu features delicious sandwiches and salads, complemented by an impressive selection of local artisan beers and wines.
Awesome easy going place. Good sandwich n salad, super friendly owner, apparently running the place by herself. Recommended!
Fabian G — Google review
Very overpriced for the food you get; €5 for an overbaked croque monsieur (and just one piece too) and €3 extra for the "salad" (which is just a couple of lettuce leafs with an unappetizing dressing sauce). You have to ask for mayo or ketchup, they don't normally serve this with the croque, luckily you don't have to pay extra for that. Service is quick and friendly, that's the only reason this place gets two stars from me.

Nice sandwiches, wine and beer. Fair value and friendly staff/owner.

Pleasant wine, tasty peanuts, surrounded by bottles. Cosy, quite friendly and no muzak. Actually possible to talk and be heard. Will visit again.

Great choice of local artisan beers for enjoying on the premises or to take away.

Best food especially razor class Fab meal
JohnP — Google review
Were in town a while ago and thought of trying this restaurant when we ever get back. This year we did and booked a table for lunch. It seems there was a change in ownership at some point and it got a bit of fresh colour, but the menu seems similar like before with lots of seafood options. We got a table in the back in the courtyard, which seemed nice. But it got bus pretty quickly and got quite loud at times. Not a too relaxing experience, the setting was nice though. Not the restaurants fault, but: The numerous flies were really annoying hovering around our food all the time. We ordered oysters and Foie Gras mi-cuit for starters and some razor clams and Surf & Turf (medium) for the mains. A bottle of wine with that. The Foie Gras was tasty and the oysters pretty good as well. There was a bit of a mix-up and the razor clams arrived before the oysters and were getting cold until I got my Surf & Turf plate. Since we felt like having oysters first, we took the risk of eating semi-cold razor clams. The lobster was ok for the money we paid, a bit overcooked. Definitely overcooked was the steak, nowhere near medium, quite well-done. The wine was fine. And the service was really doing everything to make us feel welcome and did a really great job. Food-wise the mains were quite disappointing and combined with the loud atmosphere not worth the roughly 120 Euros we've paid. It's not the worst restaurant. It's all pretty average, but for the same money I can get a lot more bang for the buck elsewhere. Fine for once, won't come back.
Alex H — Google review
It's a cool, open space, but the drinks are quite expensive. We ordered two lattes with flavorings, and they were excessively sweet due to a very strong syrup. On the plus side, the restaurant is very large and has a big terrace. However, the restroom wasn't very clean.
Aiko J — Google review
Unremarkable We arrived in Saint-Valery-sur-Somme late on a Sunday evening and we were relieved to find somewhere to eat so close to our apartment. The food was good - but nothing special! We shared 1/2 a dozen oysters, followed by the piece de boucher (tough bavette) and filet mignon (pork fillet which was very good). The service was friendly and the food came out very quickly.
Suzie L — Google review
Fries soft and uncooked. Ask for extra sauce - didn't receive it. Moules are decent but slightly overcooked. My recommendation is to walk back where there are more options to eat
Denis K — Google review
The food was very good. Oysters were excellent, lamb was the best I’ve had in France. The staff were friendly and helpful but it was very busy and the mains came out far apart and we had a child with us and she had to wait a long time for her main meal. We had to ask twice were it was. Other restaurants always bring the children’s plates out first.
Christine S — Google review
The worst moules I have ever had. Such a disappointment. We should have known when they arrived only 2 minutes after ordering. Tried to give some feedback to the staff but the lady on the till was horrible. Seriously over-priced to at €17. Drinks prices were a rip-off too. Avoid this place like you would the plague.
Paul M — Google review
The food is good, with local products, and good quantities at the right price. The staff is competent, smiling and motivated. Familiar friendly.
