History Museums
Memorial Pegasus, located in France, is a significant site from World War II. It features the original Benouville Bridge and a replica of the 'Bailey' bridge used during the war. The museum park commemorates the British 6th Airborne Division's capture of Pegasus Bridge during their D-Day mission in 1944. This division's objective was to secure and defend key bridges to impede German forces from launching counterattacks.
Excellent museum, the cost of €9.50 per adult covers you for the 3 museums. Very informative and the tanks and exhibitions are top class. Put side there is an original WW2 glider and the original bridge that stood when D-day started.
Andrew T — Google review
A very good museum solely focusing on the taking of the bridge. The museum is not massive, but packed with memorabilia and information. The outside holds the actual bridge, planes, vehicles and information related to the bridge. The entrance fee was cheap. Highly recommend a visit.
Björn J — Google review
What a surprisingly interesting and engaging museum! It may be small, but it’s perfectly formed, and rather than overwhelming you with endless information, the story is broken down into sections that are easy to follow and beautifully presented. The exhibits take you through the narrative in a way that feels poignant, thoughtful, and respectful, while still being very easy to digest. The subject of war is never simple to handle, and it’s all too easy for museums to become either too heavy or, on the other end of the scale, a little dry and uninspiring. What struck me here was how well balanced it is. Even if military history isn’t normally your area of interest (it isn't mine really, but I was travelling with people who wanted to go here), this museum has a way of drawing you in. It doesn’t shy away from the realities of what happened, but it never feels gratuitous, and the result is something that holds your attention from start to finish. There aren’t interactive exhibits in the modern sense - no touch screens or VR, no touchy feely stuff - but honestly, it doesn’t need them. The quality of the storytelling is strong enough that it captures your imagination on its own. If you’re visiting with children who are confident readers and have an interest in history, they’ll find plenty to keep them engaged too. The staff deserve a mention as well. They are bilingual, friendly, and incredibly cheerful, which adds to the welcoming feel of the museum. They clearly care about the story they’re helping to tell, and it makes the whole experience that bit more memorable. All in all, this is a real gem of a museum in the area. It tells such an important part of history with care and clarity, and I’d say it’s a must stop for anyone visiting Normandy. There was plenty of parking although we visited mid week in mid September, and even for camper vans, and don't forget to visit Cafe Gondre a 1 minute drive away to carry on the learning.
Hannah J — Google review
Well worth a visit to this museum. A real piece of history and interesting story. Free parking. Entrance ticket 9,50€. Have a wee coffee or beer at the cafe across the bridge. First house in France to be liberated in 1944.
Brian P — Google review
A great memorial with plenty of informative displays with vehicles parked atound the grounds. They also have the original bridge and have also managed to rebuild a glider that was used to get troops into the area. There is plenty of parking close by and some of the memorials are a very short walk away. This was one of the best memorials I visited on my Normandy trip.
Jason — Google review
A must visit especially for those with an airborne background. A garden holds the original Pegasus bridge and other artifacts. Inside lots of memorabilia from those soldiers who were there. Very interesting.
Gillian — Google review
Very emotional. Amazing how much is on display inside as well as out. Words can't do it justice. Highly recommended.

The latter offers an interactive experience where visitors can immerse themselves in Viking culture by trying on clothes, sailing on a Viking ship, and interacting with actors portraying Vikings.

Staff is nice. Kinda expensive for the number of activities, surface. One of the major problems is that lots of elements are 8-12 but kids from 8-12 find it too boring, bring a friend or it’s gonna be tough to stay more than 30mins. Another one is that adults can’t go in bouncy castles and such which means that you can’t go with your toddler. There are premium rides that aren’t that interesting and games that are at 2€ which are way better than anything around but man, we already paid for something that lasts 30mins, even if time is unlimited. There’s a room where there are co-op games where you throw a ball on the wall, a projector displays the game on it, and that is the most interesting element overall if you are 2 and more. If you arrive at opening you have a hot beverage offered as an adult and that is raising the value for the money spent. Same thing for kids they can get an additional premium ride or an ice cream/popsicle. There’s a family room if you need to change a diaper. Bad note : kids restroom aren’t separated from hallway so anyone can see them doing their thing, I find it absurd those days : absolutely nothing protects them from the sight of other grow ups and opposite gender. I’ll still put 3 stars as for France it’s cool, but far from north America’s standards for the same cost.

Fantastic soft play, loads of different things for the kids to do. Very clean and well maintained. Would highly recommended

Fantastic soft play for our 4 & 11 year old, so many different activities, the monorail is a bit tight for a larger adult 😉. Friendly staff with good English, this is so much better than what we have in the UK! The kids loved it and it gave us a break 😬

The Lighthouse of Ouistreham is a renowned historical landmark that attracts visitors from all over the world. This iconic structure, located in Ouistreham, France, offers breathtaking views from its summit and provides an unforgettable experience for those who brave the approximately 70 steps to reach the top. Open on select days, this lighthouse allows visitors to admire the picturesque town of Ouistreham and its surroundings from a unique vantage point.
We came from Taiwan to see it and arrived in a raining Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, it was available to get in! It was really amazing to climb up. The view on the top of the lighthouse is great. Besides, to celebrate 200th anniversary of the Fresnel lens, there are some different kinds of postcard available in the entrance of the lighthouse for free, when we visited the lighthouse in July 23, 2023.
Jerry W — Google review
We didn't visit the top because we had just enjoyed a large meal nearby and that combined with the heat meant we couldn't face climbing the steps! However we enjoyed a walk around to view from the outside and there are a couple of info boards outside. There is a charge to visit.

An unusual visit at Ouistreham, during the. fête de la coquille Saint Jaques. Small, you leave feeling dizzy, but you can enjoy a pretty view of the harbour, the sea and the town.
Alessandra S — Google review
The Lighthouse of Ouistreham, known as the "Phare de Ouistreham," is a charming maritime landmark located at the entrance of the Orne River estuary in Normandy, France. This lighthouse, built in the 19th century, stands as a sentinel over the picturesque coastline, offering stunning views of the English Channel and the surrounding area. Visitors to the lighthouse can appreciate its striking architecture, characterized by its white and red stripes that make it a distinctive sight against the backdrop of the sky and sea. The lighthouse serves not only as a navigational aid but also as a symbol of the region's rich maritime heritage. A visit to the Lighthouse of Ouistreham often includes a climb to the top, where guests are rewarded with panoramic views that stretch for miles. The experience is particularly captivating at sunset when the sky is ablaze with colors, creating a perfect photo opportunity. The surrounding area is also worth exploring, with beautiful beaches and walking paths that invite visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the coastline. Additionally, the nearby town of Ouistreham offers charming cafes and shops, making it a great place to relax after a visit to the lighthouse. Overall, the Lighthouse of Ouistreham is a delightful destination for tourists and locals alike, combining historical significance, stunning vistas, and a peaceful atmosphere. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or simply looking to enjoy a day by the sea, this lighthouse is a treasured gem in Normandy.

You get to see a lot if it's a good day, and it was for us. About 70 steps to get to the top, so it's a bit hard, but we managed to get to the top just fine. It's €3 a person to be able to get to the top.

La Toscane Ouistreham is an impressive brewery that offers the best pizza I have had in years. The establishment is impeccably clean, resembling a hospital in its level of hygiene. The staff is professional and friendly, providing excellent service. The prices are very reasonable, making it a must-try for anyone looking for great food at fair prices. The personnel are incredibly kind, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home.
It was pouring with rain, our bus from Caen was an hour late, so finding a warm welcome at Toscane was wonderful. We worried if food would come in time for us to catch the ferry. 2 delicious pizzas arrived a few minutes after our order. Great place.

Restaurant
Nestled just steps away from the beach, La Voile Blanche is a captivating restaurant that has quickly become a must-visit spot in Ouistreham Riva Bella. Opened on June 18, 2020, this establishment boasts an impressive architectural design and offers stunning sea views from its terrace. Guests can indulge in a delightful array of dishes featuring quality meats, fresh fish, lobster, and seafood—all set within a unique ambiance perfect for family gatherings or friendly outings.
We came here for dinner on our 20th anniversary (which we didn't mention - we just wanted a good dinner). We made a reservation a few days before and got it confirmed. Still there was somehow a mix-up and we weren't on the list. Luckily the issue was quickly resolved and we did get a table. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. No harm done. Inside it's a very classy, very stylish restaurant. And it was pretty much booked out that night. We had a very nice, young waiter. Took care of us very well throughout the evening and recommended some good wine to go with the food. For starters we both had the Foie gras au pommeau, chutney pomme et poire, caramel de pomme, brioche. An amazing starter. Two generous slices of Foie Gras in the best quality. The brioche was a perfect match for the Foie. One of the best pieces of Foie Gras we've had. And we've had many. For the main we both chose the Filet de bœuf, escalope de foie gras, sauce rossini, croustillant de pommes de terre. Steak Rossini. And this one here was done to perfection. Again, we've had this dish many times before. But here it was really done perfectly. Tender meat, great sauce, tasty hot Foie Gras. Divine! Had a bottle of Chablis (A. Gautheron) with the meal and also a glass of the excellent Chateau Lafont Menaut with the main. Prices here for the meals are a real surprise. 17 Euros for the starters and only 25 Euros for the mains. For this quality! It is quite surprising. All in all a very enjoyable evening. Amazing food and food quality. Next time when we're back in town we will definitely come back here. Highly recommended.
Alex H — Google review
Four of us enjoyed a good meal here - which was only marred by some really basic (but serious) mistakes, that we don’t feel were dealt with sufficiently well. Firstly, one of our party was brought the wrong starter - no real problem, it was eventually replaced with the right dish, but that’s not a mistake we’d expect in a restaurant charging these sorts of prices. Three of us sitting waiting to eat whilst our friend had nothing. Two fillet steaks, both ordered rare, were brought out well-done. The waitress had asked, in English, how we’d like them cooked, offering “rare” as an option. We said “yes, rare, thank you”. We established, without any fuss or argument that the poor waitress hadn’t actually understood what she’d offered us, and so the wrong instruction was given to the chef. We were offered new ones, one of which we accepted, the other we just ate anyway. Again, no problem, clearly just a linguistic error - but a pretty basic mistake for a restaurant of this kind. Had we suspected there would be an internal miscommunication, we would just have been sure to order in French. Unfortunately, around one of the steaks we then found a long piece of (cooked) cling film - a much more serious error which was very disappointing. By way of recompense, the three coffees we ordered were removed from the bill. Fair enough, but not really the level of gesture one would expect for the sorts of experience we had. One, or both, of the steaks should probably have been offered at no cost, at a minimum. Generally the food was very good, the service was very friendly and pleasant, if error-strewn. One can’t help feeling that were we locals, who the restaurant might hope return one day, we might have been treated differently.

Came here for an evening meal on Monday evening as it was one of the only places open. Lovely position close to beach, but unfortunately the view is spoilt by another building in front of it. Very formal service, with limited English. A good choice of food and wine but quite expensive. The quality of the food was good, not great and not a big quantity of food or wine. Overall a good experience but not cheap.

Very good restaurant. Friendly staff, good vibes and delicious food. The dessert was one of the best things i've ever had, not too 'sugary' yet so good. The tomato burrata was very original as well. We were a team and they had a menu printed specifically for us and we really appreciated that.

Essentially a museum of Nazi military equipment used during WWII, the 'Le Grand Bunker' is located close to one of the beaches where Allied troops landed on D-Day. It tells the story of how this area was defended, and includes restored guns and bunkers from that time. Admission is Adults 7.50 Euros, with Children 5.50 Euros.
Was a great experience to go inside this German bunker and experience it from their perspective. Very well done, in great condition and lots to look at and understand. The tower you could go up for the view was scary but amazing, well worth it if you're brave enough!
Josie B — Google review
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit despite my need to use a walking stick, all four flights of stairs required the banister and great deal of care. But each of four levels was packed with exhibition in dual English and French.
John B — Google review
For a war museum, it is not well presented from an educational perspective. The many artifacts are somewhat disorganized and displayed without much explanation; many items are not explained at all, which would be especially desirable for posters or other objects. The staff on site spoke only French, not English, but they were well informed about the artifacts when asked.

Very well preserved Bunker from WW2, get to see in every room within bunker, great original memorabilia during this period, allot of stairs and ladder to the roof top machine gun position, great views over the area, well worth a visit.

The bunker is laid out as it was 80yrs ago - visitors can see how did every room look like. Great storytelling, if you are reading comments here you should definitelly go!

The Musée du Mur de l’Atlantique (Le Grand Bunker) in Ouistreham is a fascinating and immersive World War II museum. Housed in an actual German bunker, it showcases five floors of carefully reconstructed rooms from machine rooms to communications centers filled with authentic artifacts, photos, and documents. It’s a place that truly brings history to life. If you’re driving through Normandy or have an interest in bunkers and coastal defenses. This is absolutely worth a stop. One of the highlights is climbing the stairs all the way to the top if you can. the view gives you a real sense of the scale and strategic importance of the Atlantic Wall. Overall, a must-visit for history buffs or anyone curious about this era. Well-organized, engaging and an experience you won’t forget.
Kevin — Google review
This is a restored fire control post turned into a museum. Outside, you'll find the Saving Private Ryan landing craft and a few tanks plus a cannon. Tickets are cheap, they're around 8 Euros. You can climb up to the tower stairs (at your own risk, make sure to accompany your child if you bring them) and enjoy the view of Sword Beach. It has six floors with technical areas, like the engine room and ventilation system, a weapons room, living quarters including dorms and a medical room, a command center with a phone exchange, plus an observatory and a telemetry station. The cashier is very friendly, and there’s a small souvenir shop, where you can buy WW2 themed items. The restrooms are free and you can park around the area for free. For the museum to improve In the future, I've found these mistakes; Grammatical errors, mostly in English. Like instead of winter, there's written wibter. Instead of Wehrmacht, Wehrmarcht. I'm not entirely sure if the Mannequins are accurate. Example; German artillery officer looks like he has orange piping (that's for the Feldgendarmerie), but red piping (Artillery) on his cap. Also, repeating the information over and over again.... Another funny detail: German soldier wearing a gas mask while shooting... And why is there a bald soldier...? Otherwise, OK museum.
Fritzi — Google review
A fascinating survivor from World War II and the D-Day landings. The bunker is in remarkable condition, thanks largely to the fact that the German defenders here surrendered without much fuss! It has been lovingly preserved by the French since. The various rooms are filled with displays of weapons, clothing and other gear from the time. Our favourite part was the steep iron ladder which, fitness and agility permitting, can be climbed to access the top of the tower (at your own risk!) for great views of the town and the sea. Price at the time of visiting (October 2025) was €8.50 for adults, with concessions for children. Well worth a visit if you are staying in Ouistreham or have an hour or so to kill before your ferry.

Ouistreham is a wonderful and underrated town. It has great restaurants, nice walks close-by and a fantastic beach and Promenade that goes on for miles. A good way to start is right at the eastern end, where all the action is. Playground, some rides for kids, vendors, a couple of restaurants and the "Grande Roue" - the ferris wheel. From there you walk along the wonderful Promenade to the west. For a short stretch it's made out of wooden planks, but still easy to walk on and no problem with a stroller. Later on it's paved It's a beautiful, wide and long stretch of beach here. Along the Promenade you will pass several WWII memorials. Very interesting and informative if you're interested in history. This is the Normandy and WWII is an important yet sad part of its history. If possible, take some time to check these memorials. The "Monument Français Libres", the "Monument du N°4 Commando" and the "Piper Bill Millin Memorial". We very much enjoyed our walk here after having dinner. In the evenings it's pretty quiet here and it's really a peaceful spot to be. Along the way there are also some free public toilets. Surely a must-do when in Ouistreham.

the worst casino I’ve ever been! They are not respect people, and they refuse us to enter the casino because of a small back bag, they have no solution for that, and without any lockers…. The receptionist is a little bit aggressive. Never go there!

Fun place at the end of our trip. It has roulette, slots and black jack. No fee to enter but there is a two drink limit. They also do not exchange any foreign currency, euros only, but there are ATMs inside. Cashed in a little on roulette to end the night on a good note. We would go in again for certain.

I really enjoyed our short visit to Casino Barriere, Ouistreham. Doubled my money on the roulette wheel whilst my wife trebled hers. Mind you with a bottle of red wine (the cheapest) costing €38 we certainly needed to win - that's alot of money. White was a little more reasonable but still not cheap, not even really that reasonable. Turning €20 into €44 & €20 into €60 was rather enjoyable. Nice surrounds and a great location, really easy to find, and right next to the beach. Bright lights & atmosphere late into the night🌙. It's not big & is fairly busy, even quite late into the night. Good fun though as long as you don't lose your shirt 😉.

The oysters were great. The Roquefort mussels had a delicious broth, but the mussels themselves apparently were not properly rinsed/washed as they were extremely gritty/silty. What a fantastic restaurant we queued up and got seated quickly. We had a lovely lady look after us. The menu was great and I had the foi gras to start followed by the entrecote with a cheese sauce shame they didn't have pepper sauce and vinegar. But apart from that great chips and the steak was delicious. I have to mention the fish and chips. The fish was so fresh and so we'll cooked it's probably the best fish I have ever had. I picked a normandy desert which came out as a sundae it was amazing and partnered up with one of the best Irish coffees ever you have to try one. If your in the area it's well worth a visit.

Sword Beach, also known as Ouistreham, was a crucial landing area during the Normandy Landings in 1944. No. 4 Commando landed here and fought their way to Pegasus Bridge alongside the Free French Forces. Today, visitors can enjoy three kilometers of sandy beaches ideal for swimming and fishing during high tide. The Museum of the Atlantic Wall and the Belvedere near the beach provide insights into the town's history.
Sword Beach is a peaceful, well-maintained stretch of coastline featuring memorials, commemorative plaques, and monuments, including those dedicated to British infantry and the French commandos of General Kieffer's brigade. Piper Bill Millin Memorial

Memorial
Historical landmark
The Piper Bill Millin Memorial pays tribute to the courageous soldier who landed on Sword Beach playing the bagpipes during the D-Day invasion. This memorial stands as a humbling and emotional statue, commemorating one of the heroic figures of that historic day. Situated in a historically significant area, it is part of the Allied Force's efforts to liberate Europe. The memorial serves as a reminder of bravery amidst battle and has become an iconic symbol of hope and courage from that time.
Moving memorial to the great Bill Millin. William Millin (14 July 1922 – 18 August 2010), commonly known as Piper Bill, was a Canadian-born Scottish bagpiper, and was personal piper to Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat, commander of the British 1 Special Service Brigade at D-Day. Millin is best remembered for playing the pipes whilst under fire during the D-Day landing in Normandy. Millin, whom Lovat had appointed his personal piper during commando training at Achnacarry, near Fort William in Scotland, was the only man during the landing who wore a kilt – it was the same Cameron tartan kilt his father had worn in Flanders during World War I – and he was armed only with his pipes and the sgian-dubh, or "black knife", sheathed inside his kilt-hose on the right side.

A very humbling and emotional statue to a brave and courageous man. One of thousands that landed on Sword beach in Normandy on 6th June some 75 years ago. Part of the Allied Force to start the beginning of the liberation of Europe Every one a hero. We shall not forget
Michael C — Google review
This is a great tribute to one of the better stories from D Day. This piper has gone down in history for a great "feel good" moment in the midst of battles for the beaches and the Pegasus Bridge. A real folk hero.
Brian G — Google review
Wonderful statue with great detail. Like all the Normandy memorials it is very thought provoking and tells a story. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Nigel G — Google review
It's just a statue. Like many others in the area. Nothing notable. IMO, there should be a tank or something cool in these places to make them more interesting.

Outdoor Activities
Plage de Ouistreham is a fantastic destination for wind sports enthusiasts and those seeking a beach with a rich history. Its expansive sandy shore offers ample space to enjoy various activities. While visiting, it's advisable to plan your time well to fully experience everything this charming beach has to offer. Although the August weather may not provide as much sun as one would hope, the beautiful white sand and consistently windy conditions make up for it.
Lovely town and beach. Dog friendly beach up to 15 June. No dogs during the summer. Impressively clean beach.

Plage de Ouistreham is a stunning beach located in the charming coastal town of Ouistreham, Normandy. Known for its wide, sandy shores and picturesque surroundings, this beach is a popular destination for both locals and visitors seeking relaxation and recreation by the sea. The beach features a long stretch of fine golden sand, making it an ideal spot for sunbathing, picnicking, and enjoying various beach activities. The gentle waves and shallow waters are perfect for families with children, providing a safe environment for swimming and playing. The beach is well-maintained, with facilities such as showers, restrooms, and access to nearby cafés and restaurants, ensuring a comfortable experience for all. One of the highlights of Plage de Ouistreham is its scenic beauty, framed by dunes and lush greenery. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the coastline, taking in the fresh sea air and stunning views of the English Channel. The beach is also an excellent location for watching the sunset, as the sky transforms into a beautiful palette of colors in the evening. In addition to its natural allure, Plage de Ouistreham is steeped in history. The beach played a significant role during World War II, particularly during the D-Day landings. Nearby, visitors can explore historical sites and museums that commemorate the events of the war, adding a layer of depth to the beach experience. Overall, Plage de Ouistreham is a delightful destination for anyone looking to enjoy a day by the sea, engage in outdoor activities, or immerse themselves in the rich history of Normandy. Its combination of natural beauty, family-friendly amenities, and historical significance makes it a must-visit location on the Normandy coast.

The beach is ok , the sand is firm but easy to walk on, and there's a nice monument plus lots of seagulls (which I like). But there are a few downsides: the bathrooms are really dirty and smell bad, and if you come from Riva de Bella, the road has horse droppings and there aren’t any showers. They also ride horses along the shore, which leaves mess near the water. And if you’re not into swimming with algae, this might not be the best spot. That said, when the conditions are good, it’s a beautiful place to spend time.
Fritzi — Google review
Ouistreham was a pleasant surprise on our Road Trip through France. Loved the location, our holiday home, found an amazing restaurant (Le Phare) and a brillant bakery. The town has also a very charming walking street. It's leading to this wonderful beach here. At the busiest point (where the walking street leads you) it has some market and food stalls, some games and rides and a big ferries wheel. You can rent some gear for some beach and watersports as well. The beach is really wide and long. Very clean and well taken care of. Lots of life guards on duty makes it a safe spot. What lifts it from good to great is the wonderful boardwalk here leading west. It goes a long way, an easy flat walk. Suitable also for strollers, wheelchairs. And dogs too (not on the beach though in high season). You pass some charming beach huts and a good handful of very interesting war memorials. Take your time reading the info plates. There's something to learn. A great beach. Something for everybody. For beach bums, sporty people, walkers or history buffs. A great place to be. Came here every day before dinner.

Great places for wind surf and all other wind sports. Will definitely come back with a better planning for activities. Great beach with large tide and history as well. Nit much sun in August was disappointing though.
Ismail B — Google review
I put five stars 🌟🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 cause this beach ⛱ is so beautiful and very calm. That day, the wind was cold and very fast, yet it was so refreshing. The view was magnificent, the light was shining and highlighting the scene. The waves crashing on the shore, beeing perfect for those who loves sliding sports. Crazy weather for a fun time. We did à real, good and contemplative walk 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️. I do really recommend. But if you go there in mars, remember to protect your self seriously, it is cold.

Museum Commando No. 4, also known as the N4 Commando Museum, offers a unique opportunity to delve into the history of the town and learn about Commando Kieffer and his men. Housed in a bunker-turned-museum, it is open to the public and showcases an extensive collection maintained by volunteers. Visitors appreciate the informative explanations provided in multiple languages by the friendly staff.
Excellent compact museum set back slightly from the beach. The member of staff was excellent at providing information about the museum and how it has evolved. Visited as part of a larger d day trip just ahead of the 80th anniversary. Couple of memorials just across the road too to view. Paid parking on the street just outside the museum

Lovely small museum telling the story of the free French who trained to be commandos and fought on D-day. A lot packed into the area with 100's of artifacts. Very good 20 min film documentary. Member of staff very pleasant and put in the extra effort to give us additional information and guidance during our visit.
Mark P — Google review
Well worth a visit to learn about this Commando unit. The woman running it was very friendly and informative about how the small museum was founded. D Day is a huge subject and its worth a deep dive into a small part of it to understand what the troops went through. Don't try to do all the big museums in one trip - do a major one and this one.

Would highly recommend visiting this lovely museum. The lady that worked here was an absolute machine. She would welcome visitors and at regular and welcome intervals would take time to further explain certain aspects. I liked this more than the nearby Grande Bunker museum.

Restaurant
Coquillages & Co is an ideal beach bar located on the Normandie coast, just a short stroll away from Ouistreham-Riva Bella's port and commercial center. Positioned overlooking a peaceful and family-friendly beach with golden sands, this charming establishment offers a warm reception and efficient service accompanied by a well-crafted yet unpretentious menu.
A group of 5 of us stopped by for lunch and shelter from the rain. Between us we had fish and chips and I had the oysters. Absolutely top drawer! Even though it was a torrential downpour the staff could not be more welcoming, the service great but the food - out of this world. Highly recommend- prices good, anything similar in the UK in a similar location would have been x5 the price. Well done thank you.
Kevin T — Google review
Nice venue. Several things were unavailable but the service was nice and we enjoyed our meal. They initially brought me a blunt knife but that was correctly rectified. The sausage I had was very tasty. For a beach front venue the prices were very reasonable. A good place to relax and have a few drinks in the sun/shade.

A lovely end to our holiday ! Friendly welcome and service . The oysters were delicious oysters and and the rillettes de sardines with crevettes were just the sort of tasty light meal we were looking for. We were then able to stroll along the beach and watch the sunset

Excellent food, high quality, reasonably priced. Friendly staff . Near the life guard station so a good place to swim prior to your visit. Also serve caipirinha which for me is a delight.

This was a surprising little find on the beach. We went here for dinner and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. The fish and chips, which is not at all like English fish and chips (which was a good thing) was excellent and the salad that my wife had was also excellent. We also had crêpes for dessert and they were cooked fresh and were really good. The service was also very good and the staff were very quick in serving us and getting us our food. All in all an excellent place with a nice setting, good food and friendly helpful staff.

Great informal place to have delicious seafood and watch the sun go down with chill out music. Fantastic seafood platter and had extra oysters as they were so delicious. Great chilled glasses of white wine. Cafe gourmand to finish off- rude not to. Superb. Looking forward to returning.

Lovely place, but never got a chance to order. Waited at our seats for 5min. Went to the bar to get service to hear they would come around. Waited another 10 minutes. 3 waitresses standing at the bar, waiting with their backs to theirs customers. We were not the only people leaving without ever getting a chance to order.

Hotel
Located in a convenient spot near the ferry terminal, ibis Styles Ouistreham is a modern and budget-friendly hotel offering compact rooms with free Wi-Fi and breakfast. The hotel features a relaxed bar and dining area. While some guests have mentioned small room sizes, they found them to be clean and comfortable. The breakfast offers a good selection of continental options, including the opportunity to make your own fresh orange juice. Additionally, the friendly staff provide helpful service.
I had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel. Prior to my arrival, I emailed the team with a few personal requests, all of which were handled perfectly and without fuss. It was clear from the outset that guest satisfaction is a top priority here. The reception staff were absolutely first class ,warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. They went out of their way to ensure my stay was both comfortable and memorable. Their thoughtful approach made me feel genuinely welcomed and valued as a guest. From start to finish, everything ran smoothly and exceeded my expectations. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for exceptional service and attention to detail.
John H — Google review
Second time that we have stayed here. Rooms are tiny as is the free roadside parking, when that is full you pay to park in the gated carpark. Breakfast is okay, but simple. Not a patch on other Ibis Styles hotels around the country.
Bob T — Google review
A handy stop off if getting to Ouistreham late on the ferry. Dogs welcomed, staff friendly, secure off road parking, room definitely on the basic side and a bit tired but overall fine and breakfast was lovely. We would stay again for sure.
Dr M — Google review
Good place to stay if you want to go on the ferry or have just got off one but that's about it. You have no choice of food in the evening and scrambled egg or beans for your cooked breakfast. The rooms, sorry (cabins) as they are called are so small you need to book an appointment to get past each other to use the bathroom etc.
David S — Google review
The hotel is mainly used by ferry passengers as it is next to the terminal and very convenient for the night before early morning departure or late evening arrival. Rooms are small and basic but clean. A good buffet reakfast is from 6am. No evening restaurant but plenty nearby.
Phil A — Google review
We felt welcome as soon as we arrived, rooms were ready before check-in time. Rooms are just fine, bed is comfy. They get rather warm but a fan is provided. I can guess rooms facing the sea can get a bit noisy with traffic. Location is excellent for the car ferry, harbour restaurants and the beach and pedestrian street with shops and restaurants, 10 min walk to the latter two, less for the harbour. Breakfast I’d say is continental plus, simple but there are things to eat for all, even you can press your own fresh orange juice. Parking is free outside the hotel, in the secured car park it costs 5.50 euros. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We left an item behind and they even called me after to let me know - very unusual for hotel staff I’d say. Would definitely stay here again in Ouistreham.

Crousti' Gourmet is a compact eatery located in a charming spot, offering glimpses into the rich historical background of the surrounding beaches. Despite its simple appearance, this restaurant serves incredibly flavorful and moist chicken dishes. The amiable staff members are proficient in English, making communication easier for non-French speakers. Although there is no indoor seating available, outdoor tables and chairs provide a pleasant dining experience as long as the weather cooperates. In terms of cost, the pricing is quite reasonable.
Ended up here due to all the other restaurants being full, which was my good luck. Food was very good quality, cooked to order, and friendly service. Some seating outside, but mainly a takeaway.

Stopped here to get a bite to eat whilst waiting for a ferry. Lovely location, lots of history on these beaches and you can still see loads of evidence of battles and fire fights that when on. What looks like a small basic place, the food was amazing! Chicken was so tasty and moist. Staff were helpful and friendly - I'm glad their English is better than my French. There's no indoor seating but tables and chairs outside so provided the weather is ok it's a definite place to grab a bite to eat. Pricing was very reasonable too. My reviews are my own personal opinion and always honest.

Les Terrasses de la Mer, located at the marina since April 2019, offer a friendly atmosphere with a brasserie, a café, and a grocery store. It's the perfect place to relax after a game of pétanque or a day at sea.
The best hamburger and fries I have ever had! Homemade house sauce, homemade chips, bread baked in house. Very reasonable price. View from the terrace of the marina. Super friendly and helpful staff.
