Partnachklamm, located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is a narrow and picturesque gorge featuring waterfalls and a walkway, making it a popular destination for hikers. During winter, torch hiking tours are available in the area, offering an exciting way to experience the beauty of the gorge. The 703m long and 80m high Alpine wonder provides breathtaking views of spraying waterfalls, rapids, and calm basins.
A Must-Visit for Nature Lovers! 💚🏞️ Partnachklamm is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited — truly a wonder created by nature. If you ever get the chance, this place is an absolute must-visit! I wish I could go there again. The whole experience feels magical. The stunning gorge, the flowing river, and the natural ambience — it’s honestly hard to describe in words. You’ll be walking along the riverbanks, and much of the path runs through tunnels where it feels like it’s raining inside. It’s such a unique and refreshing feeling. A quick tip: If you can handle the cold, it’s better to wear shorts or something you can easily fold up. The pathway can get wet, and your clothes might get dirty by the time you exit the gorge. But if you’re sensitive to cold, make sure to carry a jacket with you. If you love nature, adventure, and breathtaking views, you’re definitely going to love this place!

A must visit for all people who like walking though nature. This place is amazing and so beautiful. U walk through it and wonder how nature works and see that if u leave nature to itself it does amazing things. People with wheelchair, strollers and people with walking handicap will have a hard time walking though here. Also when u go through the gorge is good to have a flash light, waterproof clothing and hiking booth.
Mary L — Google review
Beautiful experience! The Partnachklamm is very well maintained and easy to follow, with clear paths and a nicely mapped route through the gorge. It’s a relatively easy hike. It can get a bit crowded on weekends, but the scenery more than makes up for it. After exiting the gorge, there are plenty of hiking trails to choose from if you’d like to continue exploring. Highly recommended!
Andrej I — Google review
Amazing place, gorgeous. Nature is impressive and the power of water is very obvious here. Some parts are rather dark though, so maybe bring a torch or just use your mobile phone for lighting. The paths are narrow in some parts but seeing that there wasn't too much going on, it was not a problem. I can imagine that it might be bothersome on busy day.

Visiting Partnachklamm – Beautiful, But Overpriced Partnachklamm (Partnach Gorge) is undeniably a natural wonder and a must-see if you're in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area. The gorge is stunning, with its narrow passageways, towering limestone walls, and the sound of rushing water echoing through the canyon. It's an impressive display of raw natural beauty that photographers and nature-lovers will absolutely appreciate. However, the experience does come with a downside: the entrance fee. At €10 per adult (as of 2025), it feels steep for what is essentially a short, 700-meter walk through the gorge. While the path is well-maintained and safety measures are clearly in place, the high price doesn’t quite match the duration or complexity of the attraction. There's no guided experience included, and facilities are fairly basic. If you're traveling with a family or on a budget, the cost can add up quickly. It would be more reasonable if the ticket included access to nearby trails or some additional interpretive content about the geology and history of the gorge. In short: Pros: Stunning scenery, unique experience, easily accessible. Cons: Short walk, crowded during peak hours, and overpriced for what you get. Worth visiting once, especially if you've never seen a gorge like this before — but be prepared to pay more than you'd expect for a brief nature walk.
Virgiele C — Google review
It’s a beauty. Observing the gorge and the surrounding was a very nice adventure. Obviously it might get a bit crowded especially on the weekends but the beauty wouldn’t allow anything to interfere. There is also a very nice hike route right after the gorge. Totally recommend.
Ali — Google review
Amazing experience walking along the catwalk and carved path through this glacial slot canyon! The water is clear and tinted ice-blue, rushing, and slicing through space that seems only a few feet wide, while you walk through cavernous tunnels and under overhangs. And then, coming out the other side, you get to walk back above and over it all! What a fun hike!! Just be prepared for some steep walking with good shoes, water, and a flashlight for those dark sections!
Brian B — Google review
An unusual gorge. I've been to many, but this one is very interesting. There are many sections where you simply walk through a narrow tunnel right in the cliff. A lot of people. Obviously, this place is very popular.

Partnach Gorge

Ravine
Partnach Gorge, located along the Partnach River, is a stunning natural wonder with waterfalls and river rapids. To reach this beautiful place, you can take a train from Munich central station to Garmisch Partenkirchen and then a bus to the stadium before walking for about 10 minutes to the entrance. The trail through the gorge is relatively easy and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding environment.
Posting late, but we were here in winter, and luckily the Gorge was open. Absolutely beautiful and cool experience walking through the tunnels / gorge and really wonderful hike and scenery in the surrounds. The ice and snow just made it special and surreal. No crowds whatsoever...it was like we had the place to ourselves
Monica R — Google review
Great experience and view ! Tickets is for one time only entrance! At end you can walk on and take 2 alternative routes back to ' Ski resort'. Left(45 min) or right (1 1/2 hour). Both is a hike up hill at first
Andries B — Google review
Superb experience. I am definitely returning in winter to experience the icicles. Make sure to have waterproof gear as it’s decently wet while inside. You walk primarily under mini waterfalls. Combine the gorge walk with more hiking (trails start at exit) and it will be a full day in nature. The gorge on its own is a very short trek. Going at opening is recommended to avoid the huge crowds.

🌟🌲 Magical Day at Partnachklamm – Adventure for the Whole Family! 🌲🌟 What an unforgettable day! We kicked things off in style—took the gondola up to the top, which already felt like the start of a fairy tale. The views were breathtaking, and the fresh mountain air had everyone smiling (and hungry 😄). The kids had a blast at the Spielplatz—honestly, it was hard to pull them away! But the promise of Schnitzel and a cold Bier at the cozy Gaststätte nearby did the trick 🍺🍽️. Total win for parents and kids alike. Then came the real adventure: the descent through the forest, winding across wooden and steel hanging bridges, following the trail down toward the gorge. As we entered Partnachklamm, it truly felt like stepping into Middle-earth—dark tunnels, roaring water, moss-covered cliffs… all we were missing was a hobbit guide! The path through the gorge was exciting but totally manageable—2hrs perfectly fine for kids over 7 (ours were in awe, not scared!). And once we emerged into the valley, the river calmed and we could stroll along peacefully, taking in the beauty. 📸 Pro tip: bring a rain jacket for the gorge—it gets splashy in the best way! All in all, a perfect mix of fun, nature, food, and fairy-tale magic. Highly recommend for families looking for a bit of adventure without too much intensity. We’ll be back for sure!

I heard of it many times but never had the time to swing by when we drove through GAP on the way back from Italy. This year we stayed a night in GAP and decided to visit the Klam and I have to say it was absolutely worth it. 25 bucks for 2 adults and one kid is fair for what you are getting. A 20min light walk from the Olympia stadium parking area to the entrance of the Klam - you can buy tickets here - or online in advance. The path through the Klam and even beyond are really nice - I would come a second time if/when I'm back in town.
M L — Google review
It was beautiful. Tickets were a bit expensive and I recommend bringing cash because a lot of stores were cash only. Overall it was really nice
Aksel U — Google review
Make sure bringing a rain jacket with you. It was a surprising spot for us as a rain check plan. It turned out to be a real “rain” check spot. We didn’t bring rain jackets or hoodies, and we were all wet. But the view and scenery of gorge is magnificent and fantastic. The trail was build under waterfalls, it was “raining” all over the place. But, it’s a nice tourist spot to visit.

Stadium
Sights & Landmarks
Arenas & Stadiums
The Olympic Ski Jump, located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, is a modern structure built on the site of a 1920s ski jump. It features a 100m-long start tower and hosts weekly tours for visitors. The stadium gained international fame during the 1936 Olympic Games and continues to be a popular attraction today. Situated in the Bavarian Alps, it offers a glimpse into Germany's sporting history and hosts various international and local sporting events.
The Ski Jump offers a dramatic blend of Olympic legacy, cutting-edge design by Zaha Hadid, and sweeping Alpine panoramas. Originally constructed in the 1920s and revamped for the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics—most recently rebuilt in 2003—this hill is a key stop on the Four Hills Tournament circuit . A fascinating historical layer adds depth to the visit: this hill and its surroundings were pivotal during the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809 under Andreas Hofer—visitors can learn about these local “hostage” dramas and resistance stories during guided tours . Just downstream lies the stunning Partnachklamm, a 700 m gorge carved by the Partnach River near the Olympic stadium. A popular yet serene spot, it features waterfalls, carved tunnels, and rock walls soaring up to 80 m—perfect for a post-jump riverside hike . Visitors will find a small free parking lot near the base, plus a larger paid garage—both well signed. The on-site Sky Café serves hearty Tyrolean fare with spectacular views, and there are additional dining options near the stadium . One downside: the restrooms may benefit from better upkeep . Overall, the Bergisel jump is more than just a sports venue—it's a multifaceted experience combining historic drama, architectural beauty, alpine landscape, convenient parking, riverside hiking at Partnachklamm, and café culture.

This place is open to visit for free to all the visitors. It is just at the starting point of famous tourist spot called Partnachklamm. Olympic events took place at this venue. Also this is available for skiing in winter at certain cost. This ramp is really big and there is a hotel at the bottom of the ramp.

Kuhflucht Waterfalls, located near Farchant in Germany, is a stunning natural attraction featuring three steep and rocky waterfalls set amidst forested walking trails. These falls are among the tallest in the country, with a height of 270 meters. The area offers picturesque views of Garmisch and the Zugspitze, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and photography lovers.
Pictures NEVER do a place justice. This is a beautiful trail with at least 3 falls, the bigger one being the one noted in Google Maps. Definitely worth a visit. The water is ice cold and you get a good mist standing at the bigger water fall. I am sure this would be amazing in the summer! The trail is a bit steep in some sections, but very well maintained. No stairs to the falls, but I’m not sure I’d brave taking a stroller on this trail. I don’t recommend flip-flops. Wear at least some solid hiking sandals. Closed sports / hiking shoes are best, but some of you people just have to have free feet or something. Wear flip-flops at your own risk! 🤣
A. F — Google review
Nice walk, family friendly, but not suitable for baby buggies, as the last part is very steep in some places. I recommend you take hiking sticks along.
EMK T — Google review
Scenic waterfalls can be found with a moderate hike of approximately 400 meters in elevation gain. This path is less frequented by crowds, and the summit offers breathtaking views. It is a family-friendly destination, suitable for both adults and children.
Sreedhar K — Google review
If you like scenic trails and want an outdoor experience with beautiful views of Garmisch and the Zugspitze this place is one of many around this area to get some great exercise and photos. If you haven’t hiked up to straight across eye level be prepared. Level of difficulty is a 4 out of 5. You must wear proper hiking gear. Check the weather forecast. Backpack with water and food. A full battery for your cellphone. Walking stick. If you are out of shape do not attempt. Coming down will weaken your legs. It’s is steep and many treacherous exposed tree roots to trip over.
Edward M — Google review
This is a real find. It's a beautiful spot that is really accessible to most, the path is a well maintained gravel path. You could reach the main bridge with the big waterfalls in 45 minutes, but it would be better to enjoy the journey and longer at the many spots where you can see the cascading water work its way down into the valley. To note: the way up is the way down. We parked at the sports field, but there are several points to access this trail.
Timothy H — Google review
It was a wonderful visit. The natural beauty is surreal. The waterfall and the river is delight to watch. The hike is steep so I would rate it medium, depending on what time you plan to visit. The trail is sometimes slippery because of frozen steps.
Sabin B — Google review
This waterfall is amazingly beautiful. It takes about 30 minutes or so walking from Farchant train or bus station to this waterfall. Along the way, you will enjoy the views of the forest around. This is an easy to medium hiking as the mountain is a bit steep for some parts. But it is really worth the effort. This place is a must for hikers. You will thank me for recommending this waterfall to you.

Leutasch Gorge, also known as Gleisterklamm, is a stunning forested ravine featuring boardwalks and a viewing bridge that offer breathtaking views of whirlpools, rapids, and a waterfall. The 970-meter-long series of steel walkways and bridges provide an exhilarating experience as you traverse the gorge. While exploring the area, be sure to visit the Klammgeist Restaurant located near the gorge for a delightful dining experience.
It is really a lovely kid friendly easy and scenic hike with amazing views and just a wonderful nature experience. The path is exceptionally well marked and has several spots along the way to rest at seats and tables. Top hike which I strongly recommend! On a different note unrelated to the review, it just blows my mind how much of people's junk is strewn along the way. If you are one of those people who litter in nature you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself!

Unbelievable views…… and a great kid friendly hike….. and has such a beautiful waterfall and river. Great place to go……. Would highly recommend that as a 4 hour trip……
Joseph S — Google review
One of the most beautiful trails along the gorge that I have ever walked. Plan a few hours for this trip. Be sure to visit the bridge - it is small, but the views from it are stunning! There is a convenient parking lot nearby, and the trail starts from there.

The best hiking sport for those who love nature! I saw someone share at tiktok about this beautiful waterfall and I wanna try to see myself. Arrived here around 9.30am finished it around 1.30pm. Bear with me, I'm not fit person so I took rest a lot. There are 2 trails, you can choose to use walking metal trail or use forest trail like. I choose forest trail then another junction choose right direct to panorama bridge. After that I wanna see that waterfall so have to climb again then go down so many level until you reached ground. Have cute cafe there so can buy drinks and rest. After that pay 5€ per person to see that waterfall then walking back again. Is worth it but a bit tired for me. But you love nature can try it! Entrance fee: nil Parking fee: 6€/car Waterfall trail fee: 5€/person

A spectacular place! The Leutascher Geisterklamm Canyon leaves you speechless – suspended walkways, steep rock walls and the rushing water create a fairytale atmosphere. The trail is easy to walk, well maintained and offers plenty of viewpoints. The waterfall at the Wasserfallsteig is worth the small entrance fee, truly impressive. I recommend good shoes and visiting on a clear day for the best views. An unforgettable experience! 🌲💦

😍 Absolutely breathtaking place! 🌄 Leutascher Geisterklamm is a must-see if you’re in the area. The gorge itself is stunning, with crystal-clear water running through and dramatic cliffs all around. Walking along the bridges and paths feels exciting but still safe, and the views will definitely leave you speechless. The waterfall section is also worth the detour, it’s powerful and calming at the same time. What makes it even more special is the story and legend behind the gorge, which adds a magical touch to the visit. It can get a bit crowded during peak hours, but overall the atmosphere is fantastic. Highly recommend bringing good shoes and a bit of time to enjoy it fully. 👣✨
Andrii D — Google review
Leutascher Geisterklamm is absolutely beautiful, and the blue-white water is surreal! As someone who loves gorge hikes, this was an absolute must-do on this trip. If you're comfortable with hiking and tackling steep hills, you'll find it pretty easy. Just make sure to wear the right shoes with good traction, between the upper and lower gorge sections there is a very dramatic descent/ascent, which gets muddy and pretty slippery when there is any precipitation which is to be expected.

After visiting a few years ago, I came back to see how it's going. The food is good (except for my Apfelstrudel, which was Not fresh :( ), the prices are alright. Nothing to complain Here. It was quite a nice Lunch. If I Had to complain, it would be the Service. They're really friendly, don't get me wrong but Jesus we waited Long. Even for the small Things. The waitress asked us If we wanted some more Sauce, which was really nice of her. Unfortunately it took her Like 7-10 minutes to Bring it so we were already done with the food😭 Still, its a great place for traditional food and I recommend it

Awesome food and beer. If only the young waiter knew how to do his job! From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, he's been rude and irritable, as if we did something wrong to him... perhaps he needs a holiday? Such a pity, since the place is awesome

Restaurant Josef's Bar & Bistro offers an exceptional dining experience with delectable cuisine, well-crafted beverages, a contemporary and delightful ambiance, attentive and courteous staff, and excellent service. Its location may be slightly concealed, situated on the first floor of a building; however, arriving early allows guests to enjoy refreshments on the patio before proceeding to indulge in dinner while unwinding in vibrant red armchairs.
We loved it here so much we made reservations and came back for a 2nd night. Menu had a great variety and the drink offerings were also excellent. Our waitress was amazing and we had such a good time interacting with her and some of the other patrons. My wife had 'the best soup of her life' with their nightly special tomato and coconut soup. I had the ribs (served with a dramatic smokey dome reveal) and also the rump steak both of which were excellent. Passion fruit aperol spritz was a game changer and both desserts we tried were also great. We would come back here in a heartbeat.

Interesting location, offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys. The food was decent, hearty, Bavarian style. Prices are fair. Service wasn't exactly friendly, and notably worse towards customers who didn't speak German with a Bavarian accent...

Almost wanted to give this place 1 star because it was unexpectedly closed in the middle of July at 12:00, but then I saw that they left an open beer cooler where anyone can take any beer and leave the money for 2.80€ for a bottle. Amazing. Thank you

Historical place
Mittenwald old town is a picturesque fairytale destination nestled in the German Alps. It's renowned for its rich culture and iconic landmarks such as the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul. Situated in the Upper Bavarian district, Mittenwald offers a vibrant atmosphere with stunning views of the Karwendel and Wetterstein Mountains. Visitors can explore charming streets adorned with traditional Bavarian architecture and captivating murals on buildings.
Beautiful old town right on the Austrian border. Downhill and cross country skiing from here, wonderful walks in the valley and up into the hills to Ferchensee and Lautersee. Good shopping and excellent restaurants.

A Charming Step Back in Time – Mittenwald Altstadt Review Visiting Mittenwald Altstadt felt like stepping into a Bavarian fairytale. Nestled in the heart of the Alps, this old town is a delightful blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and artistic flair. The colorful Lüftlmalerei (ornate frescoes) adorning the buildings give the streets an almost storybook quality, with every corner offering a photo-worthy view. Wandering through the cobbled alleys, I was struck by how well-preserved and peaceful everything felt. The air was crisp, the town square buzzed with a quiet, friendly energy, and the surrounding mountains provided a breathtaking backdrop. One highlight was visiting the Geigenbaumuseum, which showcases Mittenwald’s rich history of violin making—a unique cultural gem. Local cafes and bakeries offered cozy spots to rest and enjoy traditional Bavarian treats, and the people were warm and welcoming. Whether you’re drawn by history, architecture, or the sheer beauty of the Alps, Mittenwald Altstadt is a must-visit. It’s the kind of place that leaves you feeling refreshed, inspired, and just a little bit enchanted.

When I visited it in May, there weren’t many tourists yet except domestic tourists during weekends. I like it that way. At the Altstadt, you can see the Bavarian Alps. It is so scenic!
Globetrotting A — Google review
A beautiful place with the picture perfect background of mountain ranges. The historical architecture of the buildings are preserved with history depicted on the building walls in form of painting.
Sharath S — Google review
Right out of a fairytale. Many houses are hand-painted and the balconies overflow with flower boxes. Mountains rise up as a backdrop, urging us to hike. An idyllic holiday destination for outdoorsy folk.
ED K — Google review
Mittenwald is a picturesque alpine town that offers a more intimate and concentrated experience than its famous neighbor Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The town's claim to fame is its centuries-old violin-making tradition, established by Matthias Klotz in the late 17th century after his apprenticeship in Italy. Visitors can explore this legacy at the fascinating Geigenbaumuseum (Violin Making Museum), which charges just 5.50 euros for a carefully curated exhibition of historical instruments. The town's strategic location on a historic trade route between Germany and Italy contributed to its cultural development and prosperity. Today, Mittenwald captivates visitors with its superior café culture, featuring numerous outdoor establishments along its charming main street, and the breathtaking mountain views visible right from the train station. A major highlight is the thrilling Leutasch Gorge, offering free access to suspended walkways stretching 2 kilometers above rushing waters - a more adventurous alternative to Garmisch's Partner Klamm. The town's beautifully painted houses and compact layout create an immediately immersive experience, allowing visitors to start exploring the moment they step off the train,

Gasthof Gries is a traditional German restaurant located in Mittenwald, Upper Bavaria. The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Their menu features classic German dishes such as Schweinsbraten, Zwiebelsuppe, and Wurstsalat. Guests have praised the delicious food and the attentive waitstaff. If you're looking for an authentic dining experience with great ambiance, Gasthof Gries is a must-visit during your time in Mittenwald.
Great view from outside seatings. Friendly service but I feel they are understaffed as it was a wait to get service. The soup was delicious and the Mittenwald beer was also on point.
Hanh N — Google review
Great food, nice space, very good service. Although I couldn't order the Haxe, the waitress allowed me to order wiener Schnitzel but served with the Knödel instead of pommes. Great choice. The Schnitzel is big, crunchy yet juicy. The Knödel is the best one I ever tried. If you prefer Schnitzel to Haxe (it's too big for some people), then that's a good alternative. Besides, the weizen beer tastes very good.
Van N — Google review
Good food, great place to rest and take a break, stunning view.👍 Even if there are lot of people around it’s quiet and very relaxing to sit and enjoy your beer. The waitress was attentive and kind. We had just the main dishes with salads and non alcoholic beer from the tap. I had pork in demi glaze with stewed red cabbage and a potato dumpling, and my husband had a pork knuckle which he described as the best he had on our trip. We enjoyed our meal very much as everything was so well balanced with flavor and spices. Definitely a place I would recommend as it’s far from the crowd and such a relaxing spot with very good food.

We randomly stopped by at mittenwald after a road trip to find some food and found this restaurant who has Kaiserschmarrn on the menu. We decided to give a try since the reviews of this resto were pretty good. Turns out we didn’t disappoint at all 🥹🫶🏻. The pancake was sooooo delicious, even my bestfriend’s husband who is German, also said that this one was pretty legit. The only thing that perhaps needs an improvement was about the service. There were two staffs who served us last time, the young guy was super friendly and helpful, however the lady was a bit rude to us when she brought the food to our table ☹️. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was super lovely in this restaurant, both sitting indoor and outdoor, and we still enjoy our time eating in here. We definitely would recommend everyone to visit and specifically try their Kaiserschmarrn 🤍

The portions are very generous — especially if you don’t have a big appetite, one dish is more than enough to share. Overall, the Schweinshaxe was crispy, slightly salty, but absolutely delicious Overall quick and welcoming service.

Specialty Museums
The Geigenbaumuseum, also known as the Violin Making Museum, was established in 1930 and is located in Mittenwald, Germany. The museum showcases the history of violin making and its connection to the village. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring violins from different time periods and learn about the craft of handcrafting violins. The museum is housed in a historic building dating back to the 1700s, adding to its charm.
This museum in Mittenwald gave a really good explanation through it's displays and written information of the history of violin & other instrument making in the town. In particular how it became big business from 1700 onwards.
Neil F — Google review
We brought our 9 and 12 year old who play the violin here today to see how violins were made here in Mittenwald. They were so friendly and welcoming. The kids loved seeing the violin workshop. We all enjoyed seeing the many steps it takes to make a violin and bow, and we learned a lot about the history of violin making in Mittenwald. This museum has a lot of beautiful old instruments on display. It was well worth visiting and we really enjoyed it.
Corey R — Google review
Very informative museum that explains well the whole process of making a violin from the selection of trees for wood until a violinist can play the instrument. They provide a personal show and also an informative video on top of the hundreds of display items.
Efraim P — Google review
Very nice museum with a lot of explanations mostly in German but audio and movie are in English. Many original exhibits from several centuries. Entry 5 euros. We spent 2 hours inside on a rainy day

Amazing how much time, effort skill and passion goes into making a violin.. very interesting museum, with the possibility to touch, feel and even smell the different stages of building a violin
Lego T — Google review
My husband and I recently spent a week in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area of southern Germany, and one day were looking for a nearby town to explore, and Mittenwald was suggested to us by hotel staff. What an amazing find! We stumbled upon the Geigenbaumuseum (Violin Museum) by chance just leisurely walking around town, and it was so lovely and well done. It is housed within a building constructed in the 1700s where master violin makers worked for hundreds of years. We learned about violin making and also about the interesting history of the town itself. The museum staff was very kind, and despite not speaking much English (we very easily used the Google Translate app to read exhibit signs, it worked great), they managed to convey everything we needed to know to have an enjoyable visit. It is not a large museum, but has two levels with plenty to see; it was well worth the 5.50 euro admission. Mittenwald is a beautiful little town nestled at the base of the alps, and I highly recommend a visit, and the Geigenbaumuseum is a must-see when you go.
Christi B — Google review
Cool museum with many violins that are decades and in many cases hundreds of years old. The clerk at the front desk was extremely pleasant. There are also wooden masks and cellos. We saw everything in about 45 minutes, but you could easily spend an hour reading all the informative placards. Worth the fee and close to just about everything in town.
RMW — Google review
Informative exhibits worth a visit. Staff could not help us research our 1790 Mittenwald violin or learn more about its maker, Joseph Kriner. We found later generation Kriner instruments on exhibit, but the staff was disappointingly uninterested and unhelpful. We had planned to spend 3 days in Mittenwald, but left after one afternoon.

Karwendelbahn in Mittenwald is a popular attraction offering gondola rides to the Karwendelspitze, providing stunning views of the Alps. It's Germany's second tallest cable car and offers a quick and reasonably priced ride to the top. Visitors can explore hiking trails and enjoy Alpine restaurants at the peak. The gondola cars have high capacity, but lines can be long during peak times. It's advisable to arrive early to avoid waiting.
Outstanding views and a remarkable experience. Broadly 7500ft up and the restaurant at the top serves exquisite apple strudel ! Highly recommended..

This is a must-see attraction in Mittenwald. The gondola ride to the top is quick and reasonably priced, and the views from the top of the mountain are spectacular. Lots of hiking trails as well.
Nancy B — Google review
Definitely fun to go up the cable car ride. We went during Spring, so the weather was not too cold. I recommend bringing a jacket and hiking shoes if you intend to explore the peak. There was still a lot of ice on the top, so be careful. Don't bring your kids on the hikes as it's there are a lot of sharp rocks. The ride itself costs about 26.5 Euros. I didn't try the restaurant at the top. There's a nice sandy playground at the base camp. Worth going up if you are around the Mittenwald area.
Evan S — Google review
Traveled around German on vacation with my brother and this was our favorite thing that we did throughout our trip. It is the second tallest cable car in Germany and the view from the top is breath taking. There were several hiking options which seemed like they would require a bit of planning before heading down the mountain, some of the paths down had cables to clip into. We had really great timing. We went up in the morning after breakfast and the weather was great without too many people. We did the small loop and hung out for awhile before heading back down the mountain.
Katelyn B — Google review
Very friendly staff. Nice and cozy outside decoration. View from the top are amazing. Very friendly with kids.
Oana B — Google review
The cars are relatively high-capacity. The lines seem to follow a rush hour pattern, so be prepared to wait if you try to leave the top at the end of the day.

Hiking area
Eckbauerbahn is a popular cable car and mountain destination, perfect for families with children. The area offers stunning panoramic views of the Alps and provides sled rentals for an enjoyable experience with young ones. Additionally, visitors can find a restaurant and playground at the top, making it an ideal spot for families to spend quality time together. Despite initial concerns about pricing, many agree that the breathtaking views and overall experience make it well worth the cost.
We came here on a Sunday after a small snow storm came through the night before. It was a great excursion for a day, riding the gondola to the top of the mountain and sledding at the top. They have sled rentals for 10€ a person and there’s a restaurant up there as well. The restaurant was a little pricey, but the food was amazing. Beautiful views and relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting in the winter, and I’m sure summer time will be beautiful as well — and you can do some hiking too!

Make sure to look up conditions on the hill before going. It looks like a pretty good area but it was completely covered in ice when we came making walking very dangerous, let alone using the playground or sledding or skiing.

First of all, if you want to came here, you better be coming in the morning, because even in working day ,in our case Friday, it was so busy that we end up looking for parking an our. The ride from the top was awesome, great looking wiews, when you are at the top of the mountain, there is playground for kids, and 50 meters away there is restorant with great prices. There is a road, down the hill, where you can walk, and go to Partnamklam ,I don't know the name correctly, you will get there about 1our and 15 min. Enjoy the wiews 😊

The bakery offers a great variety of bread, sandwiches, and paninis. The quality of the bread, cheese, and hams is top-notch. It’s a bit overpriced, but since it’s located directly in the Bahnhof, it’s super convenient and efficient for a quick bite. Pity they only have a lunch menu on weekdays. Still, I’d recommend it to travelers looking for a quick snack or lunch.
