Nice friendly place to visit. Lovely walk around the lake.

The lake is at a very nice location and there are allot of fun stuff to do, so it’s a good place to go if you have kids. But if you are with a car it’s not the best because you have to park on the other side of the lake.

Very nice place. Good getaway in the morning with a little kid. Unfortunately there's no toilet paper.

The lake is a very nice place to spend time sunbathing, swimming, playing with your kids, etc. You have the possibility to sit on beach sand in the sun, or on grass underneath trees. There is a restaurant with bar, so you can easily spend a full day here. It's a very good alternative for going to the beach.

What a lovely surprise this was. We visited Pont l'Eveque for the market and walked behind the town hall to get back to our car. We then saw a sign for a lake and swimming, so took a detour. We followed this and found the lake after around 20 minutes along an easy path. There were grey wagtails, black swans and lots of other birdlife. The walk around the lake was extremely pleasant in late April. There was also a beach maybe 150m long and the water was warm and would have been comfortable to swim in. The circular walk around the lake and back to the town was around 8km, perfect to burn off the tasty lunch we'd just enjoyed. I'd recommend a visit to Pont l'Eveque and a visit to the Monday market and St Michael's church. Lunch and this lovely walk topped it off beautifully. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) I really liked seeing the old prison in Pont-l’Évêque, which some have nicknamed “La Joyeuse Prison” because it is a unique place. The former prison of Pont-l'Évêque, nicknamed "La Joyeuse Prison", is an emblematic historical monument of Calvados, in Normandy. It is located at No. 5 rue Eugène-Pian, 14130 Pont-l’Évêque. It is in the Historic Center, close to the court. Built in 1823 by architects Harou-Romain, father and son, this prison is a rare example of 19th century prison architecture still preserved in France. It operated until 1953, when it was closed following a high-profile scandal involving lax management practices. During the Occupation, it also served as a place of detention for resistance fighters and political prisoners. I'll tell you the story of the good-natured head guard from the 1950s: In the 1950s, under the direction of head warden Fernand Billa, the prison acquired a unique reputation. He allowed prisoners to go out in the evening on the condition that they returned at dawn. Prisoners benefited from many privileges: free telephone access, account management, frequent visits, copious meals, and even day and night leave. This lax management led to a trial in 1955, where the head guard was sentenced to three years in prison. This story inspired the film “La Joyeuse Prison” directed by André Berthomieu in 1956, with Michel Simon in the lead role. You can visit the prison at 11 a.m. on certain dates...Like the first Saturday of the month at 11 a.m., and during school holidays (zone B) every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 a.m. What we can see: -The original cells, preserved in their initial state. -Objects and period documents illustrating prison life. -Temporary exhibitions linked to penitentiary history. -Commented and dramatized visits for total immersion. The atmosphere of the prison has remained authentic, offering visitors an insight into the daily life of 19th and 20th century inmates. The walls, cells and corridors still bear witness to this bygone era. I appreciated the authenticity of the place, the historical anecdotes told during the guided tours, and the opportunity to discover a little-known part of local history. Hours and prices: Guided tours offered all year round, notably the first Saturday of the month at 11 a.m., and during school holidays (zone B) every Wednesday and Saturday at 11 a.m. Prices: Adult: €4.60 Student: €2.60 Under 15s: Free Groups: Contact Les Dominicaines. Reservations and information: Telephone: 02 31 64 89 33 Website: The Dominicans In summary, I can say that the Joyeuse Prison of Pont-l’Évêque is a place steeped in history, offering an immersive experience in the French prison past. Its preserved architecture, its unique history linked to the head warden of the 1950s, and the enriching guided tours make it a must-see destination for history and heritage lovers. I therefore recommend that you come and see this old prison in Pont-l'Évêque and perhaps take part in a visit, because the story of its good-natured warden in the 1950s is surprising and amusing. I am attaching some photos and videos. Please put a smiley, a bravo or a heart or other etc... under the review and the photos to encourage me in my approach. It's always nice to get nice feedback. Enjoy your visit. Best regards. Éric Tison F-57 Féy (Metz. Moselle. France). Bonne visite. Best regards. Éric Tison F-57 Féy (Metz. Moselle. France).

The Église Saint-Michel, located in the heart of the city amidst lush greenery near the Touques river, is a stunning example of flamboyant Gothic architecture. Both its exterior and interior are captivating and awe-inspiring. This historical landmark is an essential stop when exploring the city, with its charming half-timbered houses lining the streets filled with intriguing tales from times past.

(Translated by Google) A very nice surprise is this Saint-Michel church in Pont-l'Évêque, just like the village over which it watches over. We can see the different elements that make it up because the building is full of history; the church has suffered significant setbacks and damage at various times in its history. But it is still there, beautiful, intact and standing. A small downside perhaps: if the history of the church and particularly the horrors of the Second World War are highlighted and well transcribed, I found very little information on the earlier history, and in particular, as I am an organist, I am a little sad, considering the two organs of the church, to have found no explanatory plaque or booklet which describes and presents them... That being said, the visit is still worth it. detour !

(Translated by Google) I really enjoyed visiting this large Saint Michel church in Pont-l’Évêque in Calvados in Normandy. The Saint-Michel church in Pont-l’Évêque, nicknamed “the cathedral of the grasslands”, is a flamboyant Gothic jewel nestled in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, in Calvados. The address for those who would like to go there is: Place de l’Église, 14130 Pont-l’Évêque. It is in the city center, near the large Chain Bridge, on the left bank of the Touques. Built between 1480 and 1530, the Saint-Michel church is a remarkable example of late Gothic in Normandy. Its nave and choir have vaults decorated with vines and tiers, with hanging keys in the aisles, rare characteristics in Lower Normandy. The massive tower to the west probably dates from the 13th century. The church suffered damage during the Wars of Religion and the Second World War, but was restored, notably in 1888 and after 1944. It has been classified as a historic monument since 2008. The interior of the church is sober and bright. Cylindrical pillars without capitals support the large arcades. The side walls are lined with a narrow gallery. The medieval stained glass windows destroyed in 1944 were replaced in 1964 by abstract stained glass windows by master glassmaker François Chapuy. An oil on canvas by Jules Grün representing the exit from mass at Breuil-en-Auge is visible in the tower. See appendix in attached photos. Opening hours: Every day from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Entrance: Free Masses: Sunday at 11 a.m. Wednesday at 9 a.m. Thursday at 6:15 p.m. (followed by adoration) & Friday at 6:15 p.m. (confessions at 5:45 p.m.). Contact: Presbytère Saint-Michel, 5 rue du Chanoine Tirard, 14130 Pont-l’Évêque. I could see that visitors appreciated the harmony between the sobriety of the nave and the ornamental richness of the aisles. The presence of the presbytery garden, accessible behind the church, offers a peaceful space for contemplation. The church is also a place of meditation appreciated by the faithful. I therefore recommend that you visit the Saint-Michel church in Pont-L'Évêque, because it is a remarkable example of late Gothic in Normandy. In addition, it is surprising by its size and its contemporary stained glass windows. I am attaching some photos and videos. Please put a smiley, a bravo or a heart or other etc... under the review and the photos to encourage me in my approach. It's always nice to get nice feedback. Enjoy your visit. Best regards. Superb church whose exterior facades are adorned with gargoyles and whose nave does not have a transept. It suffered several damages over the centuries with wars but was always rebuilt. The original stained glass windows were destroyed during the bombings of the Second World War and replaced by more contemporary ones... This may be a little surprising. The period organ also suffered the devastating effects of the Second World War and was replaced. I still admire our builders of yesteryear for the feats achieved in the construction of these grandiose buildings. Nestled in the charming town of Pont-l'Évêque, Auberge des Dominicaines is a delightful restaurant that captures the essence of history and culinary excellence. Housed in a beautifully restored 16th-century inn, it offers an inviting atmosphere where guests can savor exquisite dishes like their renowned beef carpaccio with pontepiscopienne sauce or the delectable tarte flambée with calvados.
This is a wonderful restaurant. They do wonderful set menus or dishes from the menu. Service is efficient and friendly. Kept going back!

Service was really fast; we had a nice family lunch delicious food and drinks. They have a great selection of wines. My only complain is the washroom, the had towel was smelly, over all great time at this place.

Exquisite lunch, some flare and panache and a nod to the classical side of cuisine set this excellent Auberge aside. Pont L'eveque is a gorgeous little town much restored and well worth stopping for a couple of hours. The town appears to have a great food culture and a good selection of Restaurants. This healthy competition probably keeps the prices down and the chefs on their toes menu wise. We very much enjoyed a couple of courses and the ample portions ment desert was declined. A cassoulet of fish and black pudding Tartlet to start followed by a wonderful skate and capers and a delicious casserole of suckling pig to follow. Highly recommend this fine establishment. One small criticism. Wine by the glass or bottle and no carafe of house wines available.

Nice fish soup, soggy fries. Duck sausage tasted good but smelled slightly off

one of the worst places i have eaten ever!!! we were 4 adults and 4 kids, NO ONE finished his plates, all were horrible, even the kids didnt wanted to eat their chicken. also deserts were horrible, but the price was very nice (if you get what i mean...) After our big disappointment we had to go again to eat, in the pizza down the line, so we wont go to bed hungry. dont believe the rest of the reviews here, something is fake, this is a horrible tourist trap.

With a focus on regional ingredients sourced from both land and sea, this charming establishment prides itself on homemade dishes that reflect the essence of local flavors.
Had lunch outside on their picturesque and quiet patio. Food and service were excellent. Ate from their Bbq menu. The cote de boeuf was fantastic and the favourite dish of the lunch. Note: They only had a French menu and the staff only spoke French.

Auberge de la Touques has become our go-to restaurant in town. We've frequented it several times and have consistently been delighted by the exceptional quality of the food. Each dish is not only authentic but also bursting with flavor, a testament to their culinary expertise. The staff has always been warm, welcoming, and remarkably proficient in English, making our dining experience even more enjoyable.

Very nice and friendly service, beautiful location (old style house), and amazing food. Not too expensive. It was definitely one of the best food experiences during our vacation in the Normandie.

We were passing through the village and at first we only intended to have coffee , but we decided to eat as well. We weren't disappointed. It appears to be a very well run family restaurant/ bar busses. The food ( slow cooked beef) was delicious. The waitress was very pleasant and friendly, she spoke English. We highly recommend to go here.

(Translated by Google) The service is freezing. No hello, we're not looking at you. If my husband hadn't insisted, we would have left. The dishes are good and home cooked and the price is very reasonable. But hey... I like merchants who love their customers. If you are like me.. next.. (Original) Le service est glacial. (Translated by Google) Small diner in the center of the small town, friendly staff and very good value for money, I took the croquet with the typical local cheese: hot and freshly prepared. Mention for the boy who served us, very nice and kind, he also speaks English. This waterfront gem features a casual restaurant where guests can indulge in delightful meals, as well as a cozy lounge bar perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. The hotel is conveniently located just minutes away from popular attractions like Chateau du Breuil and the stunning beaches of Deauville and Trouville.
Really nice hotel in amazing location with very friendly staff which is always happy to cater to guests' needs. We stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights during our motorbike trip through Normandyand found the place very welcoming and good value. We definetely will be coming back next year. Hotel is situated by lovely lake with man made beach opposite and some water activities. There is also a racing track nearby (can not be heard!) and picturesque village of Pont l'Eveque. We were allowed to check in few hours before official time and really received a very warm and welcoming experience. Breakfast was also nice and good value. The area is very safe - walked at late hours of the evening from Pont L'Eveque.

Well situated with a beautiful view over the lake. Unfortunately rooms and furniture are outworn. Beds quite good though. WiFi is ridiculously bad all over the hotel. Asked for a table for two to have dinner in order to avoid going back to Pont l’Eveque by car but although they had lots of empty tables our request was denied as we didn’t reserve in advance. The hotel restaurant is the only one on the lakeside and there are no other options nearby.

Decor and rooms are a bit tired, but the location and service from the staff makes up for it! Hotel is right next to a beautiful lake. Well worth a visit.
