Located in Rouen, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen is a stunning 12th-century Gothic cathedral with a rich history. The cathedral offers tours that include the remains of a crypt from a Roman structure on site. As you approach the cathedral from the Gros-Horloge shopping street, you'll notice its asymmetrical facade, reflecting its centuries-long construction and renovation history.
Absolutely beautiful! One of the most breathtaking churches I have been too! Walking inside takes your breath away. The ceilings are giant, the statues amazing and the stained glassed windows just wow! We didn’t have to pay to enter. It is breathtaking. Loved all the statues on the outside with the gargoyles everywhere.

Impressive, monumental cathedral in every sense of the word. With highly detailed, intricate sculptures piling on every inch of the building, it is a stunning, beautiful structure all around. There is a large tent set up in the front currently, perhaps for a reception or important event, it obstruct part of the front view. Walk around and to the back, the design continues to impress. There are cafe shops, restaurants and fast food takeout, pastries, souvenir shops nearby. The uniquely frrncg architecture, medieval looking town is so quaint and pretty to visit. Wear comfortable shoes as the town is walkable and all cobblestoned, it can be hard on the feet after a while. There are several other great attractions earby such as the large clock, Jeanne D'Arc church...all are must-see monuments. I didn't go inside the cathedral (not religious) just love European flares, history and art.

A breathtaking masterpiece of Gothic architecture — one of the most magnificent cathedrals in all of France ⛪✨. Standing before it feels like stepping back through centuries of history, art, and faith. Every detail, from the intricate façade to the towering spire, tells a story of devotion and craftsmanship. 🏛️ What Makes It Special The cathedral inspired Claude Monet, who painted it over 30 times to capture how light changes its appearance — and when you stand there, you understand why. The play of light and shadow across the façade is mesmerizing, especially during sunrise and sunset. Inside, the soaring ceilings and stained-glass windows create a peaceful, almost spiritual silence. 🕰️ Historical Importance Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it houses the heart of Richard the Lionheart and remains one of the tallest church structures in France. Despite damage during wars and lightning strikes, it has been beautifully restored — a symbol of Rouen’s resilience. 📝 Practical Info ✅ Free entrance ✅ Light show (in summer months) — a must-see experience that brings Monet’s vision to life 🎨 ✅ Nearby cafés and shops for a perfect cultural stroll afterward A place that leaves you speechless — not just for its beauty, but for its soul. Whether you’re religious or not, standing here fills you with awe and peace. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. The church is beautiful and impressive! You can spend a good time admiring all the details on it. During the evening (10:30pm) they had a light show - it was SO BEAUTIFUL. It had history and beauty in the show and it was captivating. It’s for free, you just need to get around the church and enjoy the free experience. Highly recommend.
DANIELA S — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral. Free to enter. Richard the Lion Heart's tomb is here. Surprised to see someone selling fruit and veg in there. Also reminded off a stranger to remove hats when entering as a sign of respect.
Chris M — Google review
Huge impressive cathedral. Tribute to Jeanne d'Arc. Unfortunately, some parts have been distroyed in WW2, and renovated using concrete, and glass windows, instead of vitrages.
Noam L — Google review
Impressive cathedral with wonderful stained glass windows and a crypte. You don’t need to be history or architecture savvy to appreciate this! The impressive tree next to the cathedral was planted in 1797 to commemorate the French Revolution.
Benoit S — Google review
Glorious cathedral both inside and out and the 10:30 light show was worth the wait. There are so many intricate designs and figures throughout the building that you could spend hours just checking them out.

The Historial Jeanne d’Arc is a history museum located at the Archdiocese of Rouen, dedicated to the story of Joan of Arc. The museum showcases her life as a historical figure, myth, and religious icon through holographic displays. Visitors can explore the medieval buildings where she was threatened with torture and where her trial took place. The museum also features a retrial that occurred 25 years after her death.
Fantastic re-enactment tour of Jeanne's d'arcs story and trial. Very engaging well paced and interesting. They have styled the tour in side the old archbishops palace where projectors are used on the cleaned walls for aesthetic and intriguing storytelling. We needed English audio guides, which were free. Tour takes about an hour and you need to wait for the tour time to start because its video based. There is also other rooms after to look through after as well. Great view of Rouen here as well!
Kaz B — Google review
Well worth the time if you’re visiting. Excellent presentations of ancient events. The translation devices worked well. Two tips make sure volume is up and don’t put the receiver in your pocket. It seems to have a small aerial which you can see but the unit struggles if this is obscured. Much more knowledgeable after the tour.
Craig T — Google review
A really impressive modern exhibition about Joan of Arc’s life, full of projections, 3D visualizations, and a strong immersive vibe. The beginning feels like a historical movie you actually get to step inside. Later parts are more traditional, with documents and classic displays. Still, the whole experience holds together well — even those who skipped history class will walk away understanding why Joan remains such a legendary figure.
Michael N — Google review
Very interesting museum leading you through a retrial of Joan. Very immersive exhibits where you are lead through multiple rooms each with projections. Also set in the bishop's palace so included access to some rooms at the end with great views of the city.
Alfie N — Google review
I would have given 5 stars for this attraction about the life and death of Joan of Arc but as it’s a video exhibition in French you need to wear a headset. Whilst this doesn’t bother me you really have to have it loud to drown out the French audio on the video. Some great rooms and views of Rouen though, don’t be afraid to try doors to get into the chapel (see picture).
Lee H — Google review
Rather than a museum, it is a linear, immersive tour presented in multiple stages by means of a light/projection show while traversing up and around through the palace’s rooms and towers. The entire experience has high production value and very comprehensively explains the history of Jeanne D’Arc from beginning to end. I did not know about the place in advance so I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation. Highly recommended for those who want to learn in a more dynamic fashion.
Luis A — Google review
We luckily arrived right before a session was starting so didn’t have to wait before beginning. The concept is a multimedia presentation that takes place over several rooms that a large tour group moves through. Every session is the same, presented over loud speakers with projected visuals that were quite cool. If you want a translated audio, it is included in the price of your ticket. The headphones don’t actually sit in your ears and sometimes it was quite hard to tune out the French (especially if you mostly understand that too) to hear the translation. It was a bit of a sensory overload. In at least one quarter of the rooms there is not enough seating for the whole group, so if you have accessibility needs be sure to speak up to get a seat. It is largely wheelchair accessible although the main group takes lots of winding stairs. The story is told through actor portrayals of Joan’s contemporaries and is quite engaging. We did learn a lot, but still had some unanswered questions at the end (why was she called Joan of Arc?). Overall I think this is worth a visit if you want a different museum experience, you have kids, or you know very little about Joan of Arc. I would have been happier to pay slightly less for the experience.

Wowsa. Fascinating way to present the story, you will not be disappointed. Be aware- lots of stairs! Very informative.

Aitre Saint-Maclou is a captivating historical site nestled in the heart of Rouen, renowned for its intriguing past as a plague cemetery dating back to the 14th century. This remarkable complex features hauntingly beautiful carvings that depict macabre themes and houses an ossuary added in the 16th century. Today, it serves as a vibrant cultural hub with the Fire Arts Gallery showcasing exquisite artisanal crafts made from clay, glass, and metal.
This used to house an ossuary and cemetery but the bodies were exhumed when it became too crowded. It has had many uses since the Middle Ages but many of the original decorative motives still exist. A fascinating place with a deep history.
G M — Google review
This was a cemetery in the Middle Ages but little is to be seen of that except the decoration on the walls of the court and a mummified cat in a glass window. It has then become a school and now it seems to be a meeting spot for art activities. There are boards explaining the history of the place. Unluckily the restaurant was closed as we visited.
Monica P — Google review
Incredible cool museum, the works of art are beautiful and the choice of the color of the walls is so spot on! So much to see. Most incredible part is that there is no entrance fee!!

Unmissable if in the area. Well kept courtyard (a cemetery in the Middle Ages) and sculptural columns. Now converted into an art space with a crafts shop.

Located in the picturesque city of Rouen, Le Gros-Horloge is a 14th-century astronomical clock housed within a Renaissance arch. This iconic monument stands as a symbol of the city and has been an integral part of its skyline for centuries. The Gothic belfry tower that crowns the arch holds one of Europe's oldest clock mechanisms, which operated continuously from the 14th century until 1928.
I would 100% recommend visiting and touring the interior. Tickets are available to purchase at the entry of the tour and aren't all that expensive, and with that you get a great (but not too long) audio tour of the different rooms and the history of the clock, which was incredibly neat. You also get an incredible view of the city from the top lookout. If you're visiting Rouen, this is a must-see!
Louis F — Google review
This is a magnificent clock right by Notre Dame of Rouen. The clock is cool but don't miss the rest of the houses that depict how tax collection policies form the basis of these small base houses with large upper structures. All of these incentives allowed for funky developments in this town. A very interesting place to experience this part of Normandy.
C N — Google review
Enjoyed our visit. Thankfully very quiet so no congestion on the narrow stairs. Worth a visit. Audio guide was okay but not hugely engaging.

It's exercise with a capital E. It's worth every penny. I know what you're thinking, 7.70 to see a bell? It's sooo much more than that.

Walking around these streets feels like you’ve been transported back in time to medieval Europe, with cobbled streets and half timbered houses. The clock in its golden design adds to the magical atmosphere. It’s almost like you’re inside a Disney story book. Definitely a must visit when in Rouen and if you can then definitely do a walking tour around the area - you will have beautiful pictures to look back at.
Tawseef K — Google review
Walking through Rouen’s Old Town felt like flipping through an illustrated book of medieval France — half-timbered houses, gothic churches, and a golden astronomical clock that glows in the afternoon light. Every corner turns into a postcard. Locals sit by stone cafés, and you hear the sound of footsteps echoing on the cobblestone. I didn’t plan much, but ended up walking for hours. 💡 Tip: Come around golden hour — the light makes the facades even more magical. Great for wandering photographers or solo daydreamers.

⭐ 5/5 – Le Gros Horloge (The Great Clock of Rouen) Most people walk by, snap a photo, and keep moving — but if you stop and truly look, you’ll discover one of the most extraordinary pieces of craftsmanship in France 🕰️✨. Every inch of Le Gros Horloge is filled with incredible detail: golden rays representing the sun, delicate engravings that trace time’s passage, and an elegant hand that glides across a deep blue sky dotted with stars. What makes it truly unique is its astronomical design — it not only tells the time, but also shows the phases of the moon, days of the week, and the cycle of the sun 🌕☀️. It’s like a living calendar carved into history, reminding us of a time when timekeeping was both science and art. Standing beneath it, you can almost feel the centuries pass — the hum of medieval life, the merchants below, the monks who once tuned its mechanism. It’s not just a monument; it’s a conversation with time itself. 🧭 Tips for Visitors ✅ Take your time — admire the fine details before and after taking your photo. ✅ Visit the clock tower museum to see the mechanism up close and enjoy amazing views over Rouen. ✅ The surrounding street, Rue du Gros-Horloge, is one of the city’s most picturesque walks. Pause, look up, and let yourself be amazed — this isn’t just a clock, it’s a masterpiece that still beats with Rouen’s heart. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. This Belgian beer bar, tucked just below the tower, is an absolute gem! The selection of Belgian beers is outstanding, offering a fantastic variety of authentic brews that cater to every taste, from crisp lagers to rich, complex ales. The views from the bar are breathtaking, especially at night when the tower lights up, creating a magical ambiance. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, making it the perfect spot for a memorable night out. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to recommend a beer that pairs perfectly with the vibe. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this place is a must for beer lovers and anyone looking for a great evening with stunning views. Highly recommend! Tower itself is fine too

Café Hamlet is a new restaurant located in the heart of Rouen, near an old mass grave dating back to the Black Death. Chef Damien Duboc brings a modern twist to traditional dishes such as lobster brioche bread and oxtail burger. The menu is relatively short but offers options for vegan and gluten-free diners. Prices are slightly higher than average, but the location and quality of food make it worthwhile.
Actually, I didn’t even know about this restaurant, but i started out at restaurant called Paul Arthur’s and they had no availability so this really nice waiter gave me the address and name of this restaurant. I am very happy that the people in this city want to keep visitors, happy which they did from the beginning when we walked in without a reservation the manager ? was trying to accommodate us which he did. We sat outside the waiters and waitresses didn’t speak much English so that they tried really hard and they did a great job they do have a queue that you can look on your phone and get it in English so that was very helpful. I had the bar fish which I’ve never had for. It was delicious. We also had a green salad and we also had the beef special of the day and then we tried one of their fabulous desserts had a wine bottle of water. I felt fairly priced for the quality and quantity of the food and the atmosphere It was a delicious dinner actually one of the best since I’ve been in France, which is only been six days, but especially in this city. This is a very well run restaurant.

Excellent meal and service, delighted we found this gem in Rouen. Really enjoyed the atmosphere in a beautiful setting with a self-playing piano. But most importantly the food was first class. Thank you!

Google Maps did not lead us astray - this was a great find, but first we DID have to find it! It is accessed through a courtyard via a passageway and not visible from the street, so pay attention to the number 186. We got there at around 11:30AM on a Sunday, and it was fairly empty, but quickly filled up with locals, always a good sign. My wife and I each had the “Le Burger de queue de bœf”, which is not a burger as you would think of it, but shredded oxtail meat presented much like a pulled pork sandwich, on an artisanal brioche bun with greens, tomato, cheese and onion. And served with wedges of roasted potato. It was fabulous but messy, as the sauce tends to drip, so hold it over your plate. We paired this with a draft beer that was the perfect match.
Steve L — Google review
We wanted to try this place on the last day in Rouen. The food was decent, the service was good. The atmosphere was ok, our table wasn’t the best kind of in the middle with a lot of action around. Overall, a good place to try but it was a bit overpriced.
Veronika — Google review
I've been here twice now, it's the perfect weekend lunch with friends or family spot! Prices are a little more than elsewhere, but the location makes it well worth it. The staff also speak English for the most part, we were in a mixed language group this past weekend, and they handled it like pros. Food: Everything was delicious, of course. The first time, I had the Tandoori Burger. This past time, I opted for the Beef Tartar that was dressed in a Thai style. Exquisite. Perfect after a hot day of walking around the city! As a local, there are many good restaurants, but this is the place I bring visitors. Good mix of local ingredients and cool vibes!

Could try, kinda like the glass roof space which is very friendly in sunny autumn season. Dessert is great too, they offer special desserts from Gill patisserie which I think is one of the best in Rouen.
Sicily S — Google review
Unacceptable conduct from the staff. I am unsure whether it is a policy of the establishment to accommodate customers based on personal preference. I waited in line to be served, while a large family ahead of us was attended to without issue (they were speaking French). However, when I spoke in English — as my French is not at a good level — I was informed that the restaurant was fully booked for today. I find this behavior borderline discriminatory. I truly cannot understand the hype surrounding a place that neither shows respect to its customers nor upholds the level of prestige that its name suggests.

Visitors can enjoy the wonderful view of the cathedral from the upper floor while indulging in delicious treats. Housed in a historic building dating back over a century, Dame Cakes provides an ideal setting for afternoon tea with its delectable cakes and small delights.
Very cute cake and tea shop with strong coffee! Rhubarb tart was very good. Didn't order tea this time, but I'm familiar with the brand and its very high quality. I think the current rating of 4.3 stars for this restaurant is a bit low, given my experiences elsewhere. Staff speak excellent English

Charming spot in Rouen! The terrace is absolutely lovely and peaceful — perfect on a sunny day. The tea selection is excellent. I tried tea dames and the chocolate peanut cake, and my friend had the Jeanne tea and the framboise cake. They were so delicious. Highly recommend for a cozy afternoon treat near the cathedral!

It is a very enchanting environment. The room is beautifully decorated and there’s something charming everywhere. The display is full of cakes and make you wish all of them. I decided to eat inside and were easily accommodated by the nice staff. We had cakes and tried their hot chocolate. I loved the dark hot chocolate made with water. It was creamy and intense, not too sweet and somehow very light. It was delicious - and I preferred it over the traditional hot chocolate. We also had cakes (lemon with strawberry and pistachio with apricots). They were very good, but I was not amazed. Overall, the experience is really good and I think it’s worthy the visit.

Dame Cake Salon de Thé is one of those spots that seems to show up on every "must-visit" list in Rouen, so naturally, I had to check it out. From the moment you arrive, it’s hard not to be impressed by the beautiful window display filled with tempting pastries. It definitely sets high expectations. We visited around 11 a.m. and were lucky to be seated right away without waiting in line. We already knew what we wanted: the famous Tarte Tatin, served with mascarpone cream, and a crumble with pears and chocolate. Unfortunately, neither dessert lived up to the hype. The tarte tatin had a soggy base and the chocolate in the crumble didn't mix well with the pears, and I honestly couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about—or why people are willing to queue so long to eat here. I rated it 2 stars instead of 3 because of the big disappointment. With so many great places to enjoy desserts in Rouen, I believe there are much better options out there. This one didn’t live up to its reputation for me.

A hidden gem right behind the Cathedral, on a charming little street. The coffee was great, the cakes not so much… but just being here was worth the experience 😊 Definitely recommend!

Charming and Romantic Tea Room in the Heart of Rouen! If you're looking for a romantic and cozy spot in Rouen, Dame Cake is a wonderful place to visit. This delightful tea room feels like stepping into a real-life dollhouse, it's incredibly charming. It's the perfect place to unwind with a cup of Mariage Frères tea and indulge in one of their delicious homemade cakes. Their hot chocolate is also a must try, rich yet comforting. On sunny days, the lovely outdoor terrace offers a peaceful spot to enjoy your treats in the open air. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Dame Cake offers a truly enchanting experience.

Delicious sweets, generous quantities, and super flavourful. The tea, hot chocolate and the pistachio milkshake were all so tasty. The staff is always polite and respectful. It's my go to spot for a special afternoon delight.

Fine dining restaurant
Cancan is a fine dining restaurant that offers French cuisine with a menu that changes regularly. The atmosphere at the restaurant is romantic and relaxing, perfect for a romantic dinner or drinks with friends. The service here is excellent and the oak smoked steak was delicious. Overall, I had an amazing experience at Cancan and would definitely come back!
We we served right away and had a very accommodating waiter who made recommendations that delighted us all. Delicious and unique!

Loved this place! We were greeted very warmly - such friendly people. The food was absolutely delicious and a great atmosphere to sit in. (Thanks also for being so accommodating with taking the desserts upstairs)!!! We ate at other places, but nothing compared to the quality of food, service and friendliness as here. Definitely recommend!!!!

Delightful restaurant with excellent, attentive service. We booked here last minute and were so pleased with our choice. Instead of having a bottle of wine we chose some glasses from the suggested pairings. The petit Chablis was a favorite. The chocolate dessert was sublime!

Very good food, but service was very poor for us. We entered, sat, and after 10 minutes, our order was taken. After 30 minutes, we’d yet to be given even water. Even the diners at the table next to us noted that we were ignored, and made a comment about the failure to serve us, saying it was “a pity” as they ate their appetizers and their main course. Finally was able to pin down our waiter (I had to get up and stand in front of him at the bar until he noticed me), who had clearly forgotten about us. He did not apologize. We eventually got our water, and after about another 20 minutes, our food was delivered. The food was very good, which helped to redeem the evening. I again had to stand and go to the waiter to pay the bill so that we could leave. So, the service was horrendous, but we suspect for some reason aberrational to our table, because everyone else seemed to be getting attention. It was extremely odd, as was the waiter’s apparent failure to do anything to acknowledge his failures.

A brilliant evening. Staff were attentive, food was excellent quality and well priced. Great atmosphere and background playlist too! Would definitely revisit.

Really good meal served with charm and expertise. Christmas eve, can be fraught especially if you haven't made plans. Got a table. Two excellent lunches, served with well matched wines. Very happy customers.

I went there for a business dinner. The place is very well located. Good food and great drinks. The service is excellent. Everything there is awesome but the Oak smoked steak is a must. I loved the experience there!

We tried côte du porc which is very tender with very good taste. Potatoes seasoned with jambons are very yummy as well. Only a pity that the portion is a bit small for a man. Without many veggies, we ordered another plat de vegans …which is a bit greasy and too cooked. It the resto adds another piece of meat even at a bit higher price, it will be perfect!
