Outdoor Activities
Beaches
Dymchurch Amusement Park is a charming seaside attraction with a variety of rides and amusements suitable for the whole family. From dodgems and a ghost train to arcades and a rollercoaster, there are options for all ages to enjoy. The park opens daily at 11:00 am, offering an old-fashioned yet fun atmosphere that has been enjoyed by generations. While the rides may be more geared towards younger visitors, adults can still join in on the fun.
We visited a lovely little amusement park right next to the seaside, and it was such a pleasant surprise. While it’s on the smaller side, it’s incredibly convenient and very reasonably priced. There’s plenty to do for both children and adults, making it a perfect add-on to a seaside visit. One of the absolute highlights was the bumper cars — hands down the best bumper car experience I’ve ever had. The ride was much longer than most places, and it added so much fun to our day. It really stood out as the highlight of our visit! A quick note for visitors: the park only accepts cash, and you’ll need to exchange it for tokens to use on the rides. So make sure to come prepared. All in all, it’s a fun, budget-friendly way to spend a few hours by the sea. We’ll definitely return!

I love Dymchurch, its not over crowded and not overly expensive. The amusements were reasonably priced. The rides were perfect for the little ones. Its not huge, but enough to entertain for a short while. The sandy beach is located right behind it.
Lorren J — Google review
Great fun for toddlers and teens. Enjoyed walking along the long stretched beach and freshly made doughnuts!
SnapNSpill — Google review
Not all rides were available. Mostly for younger children. Ghost train was fun. The elephant ride looked fun but ever so slow! Would say 10 yrs old and younger is perfect 😊
Alison R — Google review
All of the years I have been to Dymchurch Amusements I have not been let down! My grandparents have a lovely time with me all the activities! I think it is clean! Quite over priced as one ride is 2 tokens! The staff are soooo friendly! Every time I have been it creates a new memory I will Cherish forever!
Helen W — Google review
took my son Who is severally autistic but OBSESSED with rides, most rides are 2 Discs per person and having to go on with him, 4 discs per ride and with a child who wants to go on constantly cost me £50! I think for what it is it's very pricey, the workers didnt say a single word, no greeting going onto the rides seemed very fed up. I think I counted 8 rides and the bumper cars. but the main thing is my son was happy which makes all these things alright. but you could get a day out somewhere bigger for the money youd pay he especially if you have several kids!
Aimee F — Google review
Kids loved this place. You need cash to buy tokens, the more you buy the cheaper, so 20 was £25 and you can get more, but if you ge less, it dearer.. 3 for £5. Small rides for little ones and bigger rides for older ones, mine are 7 and 10 and tall and had 5 rides each but could have done more! No queuing to get on, we went at open time.. 11am. Good fun!! Parking jsut down the road in a pay and display managed by ring goor cash.
Sarah T — Google review
It's a rather shabby, over priced collection of mediocre rides. The token stall only accepts cash. The shooting star ride is really boring, it sits at the top for too long barely dropping. The children barely let out a noise of excitement. All rides are 2 tokens (working out just less than £5 a ride) . The smaller rides are 1 token. The waltzer was fun - the children enjoyed that one. The rest left them underwhelmed (They are primary school age) The staff working the rides are miserable and don't look like they want to be there. Generally a miserable expensive place to visit.

Great little find. Set prices. The food was good, as was the service. Very helpful staff. Fish and chips £15 to eat in. Teas and coffees reasonably priced. We were a table of 6.

We came here for a quick stop after we caught an earlier train to falkstone. Plesently surprised about the quality of the fish and chips. Nice crisp on the battery, good portion size. Also they took our order before they officially opened. Great value for your money! 👌

Delicious. We were ready for haddock and chips, but sadly there was none. However we took a chance on the cod. WOW it was fantastic. Beautiful light batter and crispy golden chips. Great tea. Staff friendly and helpful.
Sandy A — Google review
Six of us ate in this lovely fish & chip restaurant and a choice well made. Chips were light & crispy on the outside & fluffy on the inside. Cod was cooked to perfection with a lovely light crispy batter. The young guy who served us (had braces), was an absolute credit to your restaurant. Very polite, such a lovely guy and the orders were exact an fairly quick too. If all businesses had a guy like him, the world would be a much better place. Can’t give him enough credit, 10/10

Dymchurch Beach

4.6
(693)
Dymchurch Beach is part of the Romney Marshes collection of beaches and is located along the Kent coast, offering approximately 3 miles of wide sandy shoreline. The beach features sand and shingle areas divided by wooden groynes, making it a dog-friendly destination where dogs can enjoy chasing frisbees on the expansive sandy beach. Families can indulge in activities like sandcastle building and moat digging while enjoying the wide expanse of sand for sunbathing.
We had a lovely time on the beach making memories and building sand castles. There’s fish and chips, ice cream, arcades and the fair rides for the kids to enjoy too
Kelsey L — Google review
Beach was lovely and when the tide is out there's tons of space so you're not going to be hemmed in, it really is a massive beach. No sure on the quality of the water tho, so best check online when you go, as UK beaches have sadly taken a turn for the worst over the last few years, which is a real shame. Aside that it's a no brainer, would definitely recommend and only an hour twenty from London by car.
Mark G — Google review
Went there in the afternoon. It was low tide so walked much further towards the sea. There was pungent smell. Beach was mostly golden but large section had black marks. Looks like water is dirty. Actual area was quiet with limited number of shops. Parking is available in council run car park. Cost is £2.50 an hour. Hopefully sea water will not be polluted in the future.
Towhid ( — Google review
Nice beach, but the tide does come.in & out very fast. Still the beach is sandy with plenty of room. Plenty of Fish & chip shops small amusements unfortunately with the machines that pump out what looks like raffle tickets which are worthless. Only to exchange them for tatt It was a lovely warm day & the family had a great day & that is all that matters
Marc S — Google review
Amazing views, perfect for long walks on the beach or the walking path. However, I have never seen dirtier water anywhere else... We could literally see the sewage waste floating, it was very very disappointing. This beach is such a good opportunity for Kent to have an amazing spot for swimming and sunbathing. Would go again but just for a walk, unfortunately.
Renee L — Google review
A lovely clean sandy beach but not much more can be said for it. For August school holiday period it was extremely quiet.
Alan A — Google review
This is an excellent sea beach with easy access by bus from Ashford and is wofely popular among locals. The beach is nkt crowded but is definitely a wonderful gateway to go and spend time away from daily monotony of life. Being in Ashford, we took bus 500 straight to the beach area. The bus timetable is available at Stagecoach website. We went around 1pm in afternoon and stayed until 3:30pm in the seabeach along with having lunch there until thick black clouds came and started to pour in badly. The coast line is long and is definitely a calming place to enjoy away from daily hustle of life.
Khandker Q — Google review
lovely clean beach, check the tide times because during a full tide there is 0 beach, low tide, the beach stretches far giving you plenty of space. sand is nice, bit clay like and sticky the further out you go. lots of Ringo parking all along the strip. Not many toilets but if you walk to main area you'll find toilets and shops. everything is reasonably priced. Great day out.

Visitors can also indulge in delicious desserts like sticky toffee pudding and apple crumble. With a rating of 4.6 out of 5, Ocean Inn is renowned for its delectable food and inviting ambiance.
Don't be put off by the look of this pub / restaurant. From the outside it looks dated - inside too ( but it was built circa 1733!) The food is amazing, the service is great and the garden at the back sheltered from the wind. We took an American friend for lunch, she's elderly and eats very little. She wanted a shrimp (prawn) salad and we asked for two plates - the prawns were plump and juicy the salad was freshly prepared and there was more than enough for the two of of us at lunchtime. There was french bread on the side - excellent value. Highly recommend this little gem
Katrina C — Google review
Food was nothing special and quite pricey, but service was good. I had the macaroni cheese and to be honest, the children's wasn't much smaller than mine, it just didn't have the small salad.
Sharon G — Google review
A fair sized pub on the edge of Dymchurch's main drag. The burger was fairly standard, the ribs looked good and being in a seaside town I'm sure they do a pretty fine fish and chips. The staff were friendly and attentive and the overall vibe is one of a regular English pub. Not a bad place to grab a bite when you're around these parts.
Joe A — Google review
I'll say stick to the traditional fish and chips. I thoroughly enjoyed mine. I don't know about their other dishes but the ribs, spaghetti Bolognese and seafood platter that the rest of my family ordered, could have been better. Staff were friendly. It was quite warm indoors and too chilly to sit outside. Probably something that Aircon could easily take care of. We did have good fun though.
Thembie N — Google review
Food was fresh and was tasty I had Steak and Guinness pie and chips, the meat was lovely and tender and short crust pastry was obviously cut from a later pie and apparently was home cooked, my wife had half a rack of ribs with salad and chips and she too was very impressed 😋

Great pub staff were friendly and nice the food was good. Would definately be making another visit if down in the area again. Only let down and not the fault of the pub but kids just trashing the play area and parents more intrested in gett8ng rid of the kids and not paying attention to what they doin

The Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway offers a unique way to experience the beautiful landscapes of the area, with steam and diesel locomotives connecting four stations. The journey takes you through countryside and along the coast, providing a nostalgic experience for visitors. One of its notable stops is in Dungeness, known for its protected status and distinct post-apocalyptic landscape.
A great day out for the family. A super line with a variety of engines. The rover ticket works well to hop on and off along the routes. Great cafe and museum at Romney. Make sure you download and use the audio app for your guide along the route. Definitely recommend 5 Star

I’ve been coming here since I was 3 and have been Trainspotting and making online content ever since. I would 100% recommend this railway to absolutely anyone. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or if you’ve been there 100 times the experience is always amazing, the staff members and volunteers are always extremely kind and helpful.

Steam locomotives in excellant order and two available on limited timetable. Website confusing and timetable very difficult to read on a phone. Website only gives option of 29 pound rover ticket which gives free entry to model railway and warns cannot buy on stations. As we only wanted a short ride we opted to go from Romney marsh..which is best station to start from as has meuseum/ model railway. However whatever station we wished to go to was 22.00 pounds.,and no free entry to model railway. Timetable made it difficult to use rover ticket as left you at dungeness for 2.5hrs or hythe for 2 dependant if train was not doing 20 min turn a round. Would rec visit more in season for more flexibility. Cafe at dungeness poor...basic food options and had run out of fish and chips and pasties by 12.30. Nice line though and history very interesting. Best to go on warmish day as even covered carriages with doors cool.

Very good . We Took train to dungeness. And back again. We will go again but earlier in the day so we could have a walk around dungeness. Then catch the train back again. Very interesting model railway experience. Buttons to push to make trains work. And lights to turn on+ cable car .
Kevin S — Google review
Have always enjoyed this railway, have been since I was young. It has always stayed traditional, and a nice vintage element. Definitely worth going all the way to dungeness too see the desert environment, and also romney to see the model railway exhibit

Very interesting railway, staff were very friendly traveled whole length both ways. We had food at Dungeness and really enough the day out

Easily one of my favourite places in the world! The railway itself is a special piece of history. The trains are a masterclass of engineering. The staff are friendly and helpful. Just the perfect day out!
Jake E — Google review
This is a great day out. We started at Dungeness end of the line and if you buy a Rover ticket you can get on and off the train at any stop to explore. Not been on here since I was a child, its still great fun.

I enjoyed the Chicken Doner with vegetables at Diamond Kebab. The service was exceptional and the food tasted delicious. The portion sizes are incredibly generous, satisfying even the hungriest person. The staff were friendly and provided complimentary Turkish Delights. I have been to this place multiple times and have always had a positive experience. The meat is flavorful and plentiful, the salad is fresh, and the sauces enhance the flavors.
Diamond Kebab is a fantastic spot for a quick and satisfying takeaway. The portions are generous, ensuring you get great value for your money. Service is consistently fast and polite, making the entire experience smooth and efficient. The stylish interior adds to the charm, even if you're just popping in to grab your food. If you have time to sit, the outdoor patio is a great option, with comfortable, covered seating. Whether you're dining in or taking away, Diamond Kebab delivers on quality and service. Highly recommended! Pair your meal with the peaceful beach setting just a few minutes away and you've got a perfect evening to relax while watching the sunset.

Was in the are today and thought we would stop here for some dinner. We was not dissapointed the food was fantastic the mix grill was huge all perfectly cooked and banging. The mrs has lasagne real homemade huge bit was also fantastic proper pub grub not like all the fancy crap you get now days just good grub. Our server was lovely and so helpful. We will deff be returning.

We had the most delicious meal here last night. My husband had the mix grill I had the lamb shank, and I can honestly say they were worth every penny spent. The food was fresh, tasty, hot and good portion size. We were so full after the meal we couldn't find room for a pudding, which was a shame because they looked delicious. The server was so lovely, very attentive and nice and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for her. She checked on us to make sure the meal was OK, the service was impeccable. We will definitely be coming back for more of their delicious food. If you're passing this place, drop in and sample some of their cuisine you won't be disappointed.

Was told that the Sunday carvery was good from a neighbor so thought I would try it out with my partner and mum. Bear in mind we had never been there before. We got there and the bar staff were busy behind the bar, and it seemed a good five minutes before anyone asked if they could help. We finally got shown to the dining area and was handed over to a waitress who's first day it was at the job. We know this because she looked very nervous and I asked her if it was her first day, which she confirmed. We got shown to a table and we couldn't pull the chairs out as it was too close to the tables and chairs either side of it and had to asked other customers to basically get up and move their table so I could just sit at our table. Finally seated the nervous waitress takes our drinks order and there is no sign of our drinks for 15 minutes. Eventually I ask another waitress where is our drinks and when can we go and get our meal. She was very good and sorted our drinks straight away and got our tickets for our meal. When we sat down my mum was blinded by a spotlight shinning right in her eyes and had to get up to turn it away. The meats were good but the shredded cabbage was chewy (obviously frozen) not cooked enough, the yorkshire pud was frozen not homemade, the roast potatoes were awful. Firstly the potato tasted old and had been deep fried and brought out in an oven tray to make it look like they come from the oven. They were probably put in the oven to keep warm because the skin was hard and chewy and what oil did they cook them in as they were yellow in color and didn't look roasted! The broccoli was too crunchy, may as well have been raw, but the cauliflower cheese was good. Now I am a vegetarian and on the carvery menu it says vegan option. They only had meat option and nothing else but I thought it doesn't matter too much as I'll fill up on all the lovely veggies (more fool me) and when I went to put my gravy on, they again only had a meat option gravy, so not vegetarian or vegan friendly at all. Also my mum loves a nice cup of tea and what she got when she finally got it was "filthy", my mum's words, she couldn't drink it after the first sip. We would have ordered some dessert but going by the quality of the meal we decided against it. When paying I told the lady at the till that I had no vegetarian option and only had veg and she did put my meal as a child's meal.... So it should be. Anyway as you can see I was not impressed at all and highly recommend YOU DO NOT go here for a decent carvery. I'm flabbergasted that there are any good reviews for this carvery, if you go it's at your own risk 😧i'll say no more

Visited Sat 15th Feb. Seated very quickly, in the beautiful snug room, with our dog. Service was exceptionally fast by a lovely lady who was very attentive. Brought us a dog bowl too with some water. Food was absolutely delicious! and GF available. Yummy chips, and eggs cooked to perfection for dippy chips! Salad side was lovely too with a really nice dressing. Drinks and water jug brought super quickly too. Service with a smile! Highly Recommend these very hard working folks and the pub is clean, and inviting. Thank you The Plough Staff! We will come again! 5*
