Restaurant
Lochinver Larder is a charming riverfront restaurant and takeaway known for its delectable meat, sweet, and fish pies as well as sandwiches. Established in 1986 by Ian and Debra Stewart, it initially started as a deli offering takeaway sandwiches before expanding into a B&B and eventually a restaurant with picturesque views of the loch.
Hands down the best pies I've tasted, filled to the right amount and thinish pastry, making it the best combination. We had a steak and ale and also a chicken, Haggis and peppercorn! It's just amazing. We sat outside along the shoreline whilst enjoying a local beer and cider, also purchased there! I would definitely recommend making a stop to try!
Ange G — Google review
A great selection of pies, with both classic and more unexpected fillings. We tried the steak & ale, chicken, haggis & peppercorn, chicken curry, bolognese, and creamy pesto chicken - all full of flavour. We also picked up a couple of sweet pies, though we’ve yet to try those. I wouldn’t go as far as calling them the best pies in the world, but they were certainly tasty and well worth a visit if you’re in the area or passing by.
Jamie M — Google review
If you're a fan of proper homemade pies, this place is an absolute must-visit. The pies here are to die for — hearty, flavorful, and clearly made with care. We tried the steak and ale and the cauliflower pie, and both were incredible. The steak and ale was rich and tender, with a perfectly flaky crust, while the cauliflower pie was packed with flavor and a great vegetarian option. It’s the kind of comforting, satisfying food that leaves you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished your meal. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates top-quality homemade cooking!
Mark C — Google review
Sooo much choice! Loads of veggie and meat options. We had ours cold on a walk as picnic but I’d probably eat in next time or warm up at home. Quite expensive but they are huge and filled to the brim. The chocolate/pear/almond was the best of everything we had!! Warmed up in the oven.
Libby W — Google review
Really great pies and a great choice of fillings. The pie with side salad and coleslaw (£11.95) was plenty for lunch so good value. Staff were friendly and helpful. The dining area and toilets could be improved but I think delivery may be the main focus of the business which would explain a more basic eat-in offering.
Jade F — Google review
We took away, but selected heated option! They have amazing seating area outside and the weather was sunny and beautiful! Best pies I’ve personally tried, plenty of options including vegan and sweet ones! 🙌🙌🙌 Should be a must visit place in everyone’s plan
Peter K — Google review
We did the nc500 over the October half term , and this is one of the stops I had planned, wasn’t disappointed, friendly staff and really nice food , I had the chicken and haggis pie , we got there for around opening, and within half an hour all the tables were full so I advise to get here early , you can park directly outside the front but not many places there due to size of the road, we parked a minutes walk down the road in the public car park, plenty of space there
Shaun O — Google review
OH MY GOODNESS! The pies, the pies were so good! So much so we ordered some savoury pies to takeaway.. Perfectly filled with amazing pastry… nope you aren’t hearing anything more about them… go find out for yourself! BEST PIES OF THE HIGHLANDS!

Highland Stoneware Lochinver is a unique business located in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland, established in 1974. They are known for their high-quality, durable, and practical hand-painted ceramics. Each piece is meticulously crafted and decorated by a highly skilled team, drawing inspiration from the stunning scenery and nature of the area. The blend of colored glazes and high-temperature firing gives their pottery a distinctive look, making it a special and collectible Scottish product.
My Dad’s ashes are scattered at Achnahaird Bay and I took my family up there for the first time last year. I hadn’t been since I scattered them 25 years ago. He chose there because the bay and view of Assynt is stunning. This year is our 9th anniversary (pottery) and my wife got me a mug from here as my gift. Every single time I pick this mug up I’m taken back to the heilans and ma Dad’s place. I love this mug so much. The artistry on it is beautiful and so similar to Achnahaird. AND it holds a shit ton of coffee too. Moran taing!

What an interesting and unexpected "attraction " in the middle of Highlands. Beautiful pottery, keeping the unique skills going. Highly recommend to visit. Roisin (who was so friendly) explained to us the whole process and the history, so interesting.

Popped in as friends we were with really like the promise of interesting 'seconds'. Lots on offer (including 'mug of the year' if you are so inclined. Even if pottery is not your thing there are so wonderful views to be had.

I love their work so having the chance to see where it’s made was great. You can walk right by the workers. The shop also had stuff I hadn’t seen before. Well worth the visit if you’re a fan of their work.

Gorgeous designs...many iconic for Scotland and scenes of the local area...wonderful quality, very strong And can be used in the microwave and dishwasher. Expensive but beautiful and much has gone into the process of making by hand each item
Angela P — Google review
A great place full of beautiful crockery and lots of lovely things to look at even if you aren't buying. A great shop to visit on the edge of a beautiful loch and village.
Julie C — Google review
Its a place listed on the official NC500 and local tourist brochures, so I went in without much of expectations. Pleasantly surprised to find a well organized selection of locally made pottery, dinnerware, vases etc. What I also liked is that you can self tour the premises and see people working, upclose and personal. Great place to buy some authentic gifts. Prices are a bit on the Expensive side, but considering that its hand crafted and hand painted, I would consider it absolute value for money!

Supermarket
Inverpark Stores is a convenience store chain that offers a wide range of goods, including baked, fresh, and packaged items as well as alcohol. Located in Baddidarrach for 5 weeks from August to September, this small but surprisingly well-stocked shop has garnered praise for its large selection of groceries and fresh vegetables of great quality. Visitors have noted the friendly and polite staff who create a welcoming atmosphere, making it a true gem in Lochinver.
A true gem which we have previously overlooked in Lochinver. Much better stocks, variety and selection than the Spar with a much friendlier atmosphere. We will be back!!!
Diego U — Google review
We have been to this store a number of times over the past 2 years while we were camping a few miles down the road. While there is a Spar on the main road, this is a little hidden Jem of a place with a different selection of food and fresh veg (and the veg is great). Plenty of parking outside as well compared to the Spar. Over the past 2 years we have gotten more and more of our shopping here. Looking forward to our camping trip next year and no doubt we will be shopping here again.
Liam H — Google review
Shop had most things needed for essentials. However, the old lady behind the till was rude, abrupt mannerism and poor customer services skills. Snatched the items from across the till. Genuinely had a poor attitude. Didn’t feel our custom was appreciated at all. Would avoid if possible and use the spar further up the road.

lovely local mini supermarket, super kind young lady. And open till 7pm, later than the local SPAR.

Our "corner shop" in Baddidarrach for 5 weeks. Aug thru' to Sept this year. Small store with a, surprisingly, large selection of groceries etc Big thanks to ALL the ladies & "Black Isle" Neil for making shopping a mini-event

A really good selection of everyday items. Standing out for me though are the fresh vegetables - great choice and great quality. Also, the staff are lovely - friendly and so polite.

Small convenience store stocking all the basics including beer and wine. Open until 7pm most nights which is slightly later than the town Spar. Expect to pay a little more than the bigger stores.

Convenience store
SPAR Lochinver is a local convenience store offering a wide variety of goods at reasonable prices. The store stocks everything from raw products to a variety of hummus, making it a great place to stock up on essentials. While the staff could be more welcoming at times, the overall service is solid. Located in a picturesque area known for its exquisite beaches and hard crofting country, SPAR Lochinver provides friendly service and a reasonable range of food for visitors exploring the highland village.
This is a great little shop. Has a good range of products, frozen food, pet food, alcohol etc. Has a Post Office inside so you can withdraw cash here too ,if needed. Also is the local petrol station, sells logs and kindling, coal etc. It is the main shopping store for the village. Staff are lovely and helpful.
T M — Google review
This is an excellent convenience store with a huge variety of goods for a local shop including pretty much everything you could need at reasonable prices. The staff could be a bit more welcoming but it was close to closing time so I imagine they were tired coming towards the end of their shift. Very impressed that they stock a variety of hummus - one of my favourite foods! Overall a very good place to stock up on essentials.
Robert N — Google review
Your not allowed to buy a can of beer before 10am. That doesn't make any sense. The Products are OK, the prices high.
Every D — Google review
It’s ironic that this shop has a sign on display stating that they will not put up with rudeness to their staff when I have never had the misfortune to encounter such rude and surly staff. No acknowledgement or hello when I walked in and said hello to the member of staff behind the till, and when paying for my items the member of staff good barely contain her contempt at having to serve me. I noticed that the person served before me was treated in a totally different manner, the staff member was helpful and friendly to them. Was it because they spoke with a Scottish accent, where as I am English?
Martin D — Google review
Hello there, i sent a parcel from your post office to Germany around July/August, sadly it couldn't be delivered because, presumably the parcel had only the address without my name. The post office here in Germany said it would be sent back to you. Could you help me find it and to get it sent back to me?!?(CP730700195GB)
Tania M — Google review
Wish I'd had the courage to walk out. Couldn't be any less helpful. Was barked at to sanitise my hands as I made my way through the crowd of people who were surrounding it so that the dispenser was out of sight. No thankyou or anything after turning round and having to walk through the crowd of people a second time and then a third time to continue on into the shop (logic?). I was made to feel like a small child being scolded, it was just completely rude the way it was done. Felt rather uncomfortable walking around the shop after that which considering the importance they put on sanitising is not socially distanced at all. When being served I then asked if they sold stamps - was told in a very condescending manner that Scotland doesn't sell stamps on a sunday, that's fine, my mistake. So I then asked for advice on where locally but further south that I might be able to buy stamps from tomorrow as I won't still be here then and the response I got couldn't have been ruder. Felt very much that it was all because of my English accent that I was treated this way as I overheard a Scottish bloke asking for similar advice on local places and he received a very different and much politer response. I understand the locals frustration with tourism but as a business surely you should be at least be trying to make the most out of a bad situation and making money off all the 'tourists' rather than being rude to them. Disgusting attitude and when I visit my friend who lives in the area again I will definitely not be giving you my custom again and strongly advise others don't where possible either.
Emily O — Google review
CLOSED ON SUNDAY'S! Even it says open until 5:30pm. No explanation on the door why. At another store I've been told that they are closed due to staff shortage. Fair enough at least put a note on the door and change the info on the website, but nothing. When I went into the shop when it was finally open the lady behind the counter couldn't be more unhelpful. I was under the impression she hates her job and doesn't like english people. So we went to the Inver Park Store, Lochinver, Lairg IV27 4LN !! So helpful, friendly and professional and OPEN! I can highly recommend this shop. :-)

Lochinver Petrol Station

Gas station
Lochinver Petrol Station is a must-visit spot in Lochinver, offering delicious pies that come highly recommended. The fuel prices are good, and there's free air for tyres as well as a water tap at the side of the building. Paying for fuel is convenient with a terminal near the office, and assistance is available at the shop across the road. It's also noted to be 13p per litre cheaper than card pumps in Durness.
If you need fuel diesel or petrol this garage is open 24 hour's 7 days a week

Very friendly staff, beautiful part of the country, please buy fuel at local communities, they depend on it to keep facilities like this open in rural areas
Drew K — Google review
Automatic pumps - the shop across the street can probably help with bits and bobs from the garage such as oil or add blue but not sure
Christine G — Google review
Pulled Saturday Lunchtime and closed. Credit card option to pay for fuel but no contactless! Really! As I’d lost my wallet and all cards the day before, had to ask someone to pay on their card and reimburse them! Luckily some nice people helped us out!
Graham M — Google review
Petrol 24/7 great
Christoph G — Google review
Would be useful if there were instructions at the pump. You have to go to card machine first and pay BEFORE you fill up. Took me a while to figure out. Also there is a sign saying ring if kiosk closed but it all different at moment. Bit of guidance would have been useful. Cheers.
Jean B — Google review
Fuel was a good price. Free air for tyres. Water tap at side of building, used it to fill up motorhome. You pay for fuel by using terminal near office, you authorise first and then take fuel. If you need help go to the shop across the road

Delilah's is a hidden gem in Lochinver, offering an exceptional dining experience. Despite its unassuming appearance, the restaurant serves exquisite dishes such as perfectly made scallops, cullen skink, lobster, and wild mushroom linguini. The portions are generous and complemented by a great wine selection. Delilah's prides itself on locally sourced fresh seafood and an impressive beer and wine selection. The staff provides outstanding service, making guests feel like old friends.
Called in for a light lunch, we had the halibut bites and the calamari with a side order of chips. The food was excellant, cooked to perfection, even the chips. We also had 2 coffees, not the cheapest place at £45 given the chips were only a fiver but it was very good. The restaurant its self was very pleasant with very clean toilets and super friendly staff.

Cannot describe how good the food is here. Unbelievable. Best place we’ve eaten on the NC500 hands down, food was well presented, arrived quickly and tasted amazing. Can recommend the mushroom linguine, the halloumi salad, and the trio of deserts, along with the homemade lemonade and the Delilah craft beer.

We were greeted by a lovely friendly girl. Our meal was very good. Couldn’t fault it at all. Cute cosy place. I had the salad and it was surprisingly very filling. I really enjoyed it. My husband had the burger and said was incredible. Also great value for money I felt.

This is just the best. Great vibes, delicious homecooked food, lovely service and just a wonderful experience all in. Really thoughtfully placed cosy area under the stairs for young children to play with toys, cushions and books. This was truly lovely as I was dining with my 4 year old and she enjoyed befriending other young diners there! I ate here for dinner and lunch and both times faultless. Lovely seasonal soft drink selection including a homemade gooseberry mocktail which was one of the nicest drinks I’ve ever had. Burger was top notch as were the children’s pasta dishes - really delicious and quality ingredients made with love. The scallops were otherworldly and worth the price. Desert choices were limited but lovely. We can’t wait to return here, it’s a really special place that stands out.

On a trip around the north of Scotland, we stayed just one night in the area, and as it happened Delilah’s was the one place open, so we booked a table for two. The table itself had an excellent view, but this aside the staff were very welcoming from the off. We proceeded to have the best meal of the trip and one of the best meals I can recall having. An excellent menu with seafood, meat and vegetarian options, good specials, a really well-curated drinks list. Despite being pretty full, because the food was so wildly exceeding expectations, it would’ve been rude to not get dessert - and the trio of desserts was a no-brained way to do this. Highly, highly recommended.

Lovely dinner tonight here. We had the small plates tapas which were absolutely delicious. The restaurant was busy so a lively atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and apart from their misunderstanding when they didn’t take our order for 20 minutes, we had an enjoyable evening. Recommend the tapas especially the scallops!

Achmelvich Bay, located about 40 minutes north of a certain point, boasts bone-white sands that could easily be mistaken for those in the Caribbean. Visitors can enjoy floating in the turquoise sea, which warms up pleasantly under the afternoon sun. The beach is known for its stunning turquoise waters and limited crowds during off-peak seasons. Accessible via a challenging single-track road with passing places, it offers spectacular views and features like Hermit's Castle.

Great location with a couple of epic bays within a short walking distance The car park is brilliant, lots of space and the toilets are free and in great working order. Our dogs absolutely loved it. I played on this AMAZING beach in the drizzling rain with my 13 year old throwing a frisbee back and forth, paddled in the water and dug holes in the sand ❤️. A memory that will live with me forever. This beach is stunning, even in the rain! I’ll definitely go back to see its beauty in the sunshine. We stayed in the caravan park that literally has a gate and you’re straight onto the beach.

Ssshhh ! Lol ! Don't want to over advertise Achmelvic Bay. Stunning White sanded beach with blue lagoon like water. If it wasn't for the 4 seasons in one afternoon, you'd mistake this place for the Caribbean instead of the north west coast of Scotland. Excellent camp site close by.

WOW! This is a really cool "castle" (aka bothy). I came across Hermit's Castle when building my NC-500 itinerary and only a couple of websites offered 'directions' to get there. Even then, we definitely struggled finding it. At first we were on the wrong side of the beach, but we had followed the crowd thinking that everyone was going to the castle! Nope, I'm pretty sure no one even knew it was even there. We were literally the only people even hiking on the other side of the beach and at the castle. Our trek out to find it took longer than it did to go back, and less scrambling over rocks. The bothy itself is so tiny! The 'front door' is more precarious as there's not much space between it and the rocks going into the water. There's a cement slab (bed), fireplace, and that's about it. From what I read, it can be used as a bothy by anyone!

A little trek from the beach but well worth a visit.

It is smaller than it looks in photos but a good way to start or end your day at the beach near by.

Loved it! Such a quirky little building. To find it, from the beach head through the gate to the campsite. Walk to the left of the shop/laundry block past the chain for cars (consider buying something in the shop to maintain easy access!). Head to the end of the tarmac and you should see a style over the fence to your right. If you scramble up to the top of the mound keeping left, you should see it, but the location on here is fairy accurate.

If you love Castles, then this Castle is a must!! Very unique - blends in well with the surrounding rocks but just made out of concrete. You will need to park in the public parking - turn right when at the end of the road and then walk. Takes around 15-20mins from car park and expect to do some rock hopping! Beautiful scenery as well.

Great Hidden Gem only a small walk past the campsite. A must visit with stunning views and excellent beaches nearby.
Paul M — Google review
From Achmelvich beach you walk towards the end of the caravan park and behind there in the rocks keep going and you will find the little gem!! The only issue I found was inside it was full of squatter stuff so it ruined the illusion apart from that, absolutely stunning scenery!

The scenery is generally very nice in this area, but the castle was a bit difficult to find .. not that big indeed 🤣

(Translated by Google) What can I say, a very nice, quiet place and very kind and pleasant people, it is not a place with many inhabitants, especially in autumn or winter, and the pandemic altered the place a little, I mean the hours, opening of the hotel. Previously it was open every day, there was a good atmosphere, let's say a family atmosphere where everyone knows each other, even us after years of stopping at this port where we often unload and spend a few nights rest sometimes. And I say family atmosphere because almost all of us know each other even if only by sight, a few dozen houses, a bar, a restaurant, a hotel and a gas station and 2 supermarkets, a church... It seems to me that the Post Office has closed, the police post is no longer there, and there is a bank, a yacht club, a social club and some naval goods (store) and little else. But the important thing is that to spend a few days, take some photos, have something to eat in one of the places and of course try the deer, it is worth coming, I recommend it and if it is during the summer even better. The Wayfarers Bar is a traditional Scottish restaurant offering refined dishes inspired by local cuisine using fresh, seasonal ingredients. It is well-known for its extensive selection of over 100 single-malt Scotch whiskies, along with beers, wines, and liqueurs. The bar also serves teas, coffees, and light bar lunches. With a modern and spacious ambiance, it's a popular spot for locals to gather and enjoy drinks.
Visited recently when caught unprepared by a snow storm. The lady who accommodated us was extremely friendly and sympathetic towards our misadventures with the snow. We were treated to a hot toddy and some lovely local pints; just what was needed to regather our strengths! Authentic cosy atmosphere. Many thanks - we're very grateful and will be sure to visit again when next in Lochinver!

Ate here as Peets restaurant next door was fully booked. Nothing else open at 7 pm on a Sunday. On entry, we were told that they will not be taking any food orders for the next 20mins. So we sat down and had drinks. Eventually, our order was taken, and food arrived shortly after. My burger was tiny, and in an old stale bun, it was not edible. My partner ordered the scampi, hoping for some local fresh seafood. Unfortunately, to her disappointment, it was frozen and processed. The prices they were charging I expected something half decent but unfortunately not. £16.50 per meal for most items. To top it all off, a man came in with his dog, and it threw up its tripe dinner next to the bar. The owner scooped it up in a carrier bag and passed it over the bar to the bar man. Who disposed of it then continued pouring the drinks without washing his hands.

We went here after dinner at Peet‘s restaurant to soak up the atmosphere, have a couple of bevvies and watch the footie (in which Scotland were sadly hammered by Germany). The bar is modern, light and airy with lots of space. Tables well placed around. Even though this is the place where the locals drink and meet, and we were speaking German we were made to feel welcome, contrary to what some other reviewers have reported. They have a good range of beers and also offer coffee etc. We did not eat there so can say nothing about the food. Would definitely consider dropping in there again on a future trip to Lochinver

We drove 20 miles to this place to get a bite to eat after some morning hiking in the hills… the lady behind the bar wasn’t very welcoming and said to go to a different place in the village… we got the message and left… funnily enough the place she suggested were about to close so no help 🤔 1 star cause they were open… for locals🙄

Self-catering accommodation
The Albannach is a 200-year-old hotel with a renowned restaurant in Scotland. It's part of the NC500 route and offers well-designed rooms with tasteful decor and modern amenities. The annex building features a small conservatory leading to an outdoor patio with a hot tub and private garden area, providing beautiful views and peaceful surroundings. Guests can enjoy sublime breakfast options including homemade sourdough bread.
Book The Albannach immediately! You won't regret it. My partner and I stayed here for our elopement wedding last week and we couldn't have enjoyed our stay more. Every single 5 star review for this place is accurate. Ballal and Robin are fantastic hosts with great recommendations for places to eat, things to do etc. Nothing is too much trouble for them - going above and beyond for us when our dinner plans had to change last minute. The decor is stunning and the breakfasts are absolutely delicious. We will be back, and hope that staying somewhere so wonderful hasn't set the bar too high for us when we stay elsewhere. Thanks guys, staying at The Albannach topped off a perfect week!

Such a wonderful place! The entire house is stylishly furnished with attention to every detail. The garden is so beautifully landscaped. The guys are very warm and lovely! We also had the best and freshest breakfast in all of Scotland, with fresh fruit and herbs from their own garden. Highly recommended! 🌸

Of all the places we stayed during our two weeks in Scotland, The Albannach blew us away. The quality of EVERYTHING was impeccable, from design of the space, to breakfast in the morning, and the friendliness of our hosts. In the rainy season, we loved a hike in the morning followed by a soak in the giant bathtub at the Albannach as well as the outdoor hot tub, yes there was a hot tub and private back yard— this depends on which space you book, but I’m sure each is equally beautiful and unique. The food in the morning was both healthy and perfectly proportioned and served in the incredible sun room filled with plants and with a glorious view of the property and mountains (on a clear day). Fresh fruit, overnight oats, some of the best pancakes this American has ever had, and great omelettes— the menu is varied and feels absolutely fresh. The lovely town of Lochinver is close by and we had great food both nights and were bummed to have not had a chance to try the handmade pies in town. We also grabbed sandwiches for a hike from the local grocery store and purchased a hat and gloves for the very wet and chilly weather from the hardware store. For a small place, it has everything you need. There is great hiking right in town in a park where only minutes into the forest you feel far from civilization and can walk to the beach. And there’s a number of walks right from the Albannach as well as excellent and more intense hiking near by which we prioritized. My only fear in shedding more light on the fabulous gem that is the Albannach is that it will be so booked up that we won’t be able to frequent it again. This place is incredible, you won’t be disappointed.

out of all the places we stayed in our 2.5 weeks in Scotland, this was our absolute favorite. it was such a special place to stay in the most beautiful setting. the owners are fantastic, so hospitable and lovely, and the homemade breakfast was to die for. I can’t wait to come back.

This B&B feels like a fairytale. The hosts are incredibly kind and dedicated, going out of their way to make every moment special. Each morning started with a delicious breakfast — served with gentle background music that made waking up an absolute joy. The entire place is tastefully decorated. Everything here is just right. You won’t need to think twice: this is the place to stay.

Our second stay here and it just gets better. The place is magical, the rooms are exquisite, spotlessly clean, beautiful linens and interior, absolute attention to detail, giant tubs and rainfall showers and the views are breathtaking. The garden is stunning and lovingly maintained by Robin and Ballal. The crowning jewel though is the breakfast absolutely delicious locally sourced, seasonal and homegrown, the overnight oats are phenomenal and the Hot smoked salmon hollandaise is another level... not a baked bean in sight perfect...love you guys xx
Kerri F — Google review
We had the most amazing stay at The Albannach. The two owners clearly run the business with love and both were lovely to chat to and went above and beyond to make our stay even more special. We had The Byre suite, which is in its own building, has its own private path out to a Loch view, and it's own hot tub and massive bath. I am sure all of the other rooms are lovely, but if this is available pay the little bit extra you will not regret it. The property is a safe and easy 15 minute walk into the village, plenty of decent food in the village (I've posted reviews about the places we ate) and nice walks to do as well (see Albannach's website for some suggestions) Breakfast may be the best I have ever had - Ballal bakes his own sourdough and home fermented kombucha is also on offer. Everything was perfectly tasty and it was an amazing way to start the day, I am veggie and my wife is pescatarian and I couldn't imagine a menu with more incredible options for us. We fell in love with our little house and strongly considered claiming squatters rights so we didn't have to leave, but now we have I couldn't recommend strongly enough that you book to stay as soon as possible.
Glenn M — Google review
We had a lovely three night stay. Ballal and Robin are wonderful hosts, so welcoming and friendly, with lots of tips on things to do in the area - you can do some excellent walks right from the house. We stayed in the Kalsoom suite which was pristine, spacious and has lovely views of the hills in the distance. The breakfast is superb and the best we’ve had in the highlands. Would not hesitate to recommend a stay at the Albannach to anyone and hopefully we’ll be back! P.s. ignore the 1 and 3 star reviews that are still listed on Google, they are from when the business was under a previous owner and couldn’t be further from the reality now.

A quite peaceful place. It's also called the magic stone. Perfect for a meditation in silence, because it's not a tourist spot like some others.

A partially rebuilt Broch (family home) 20mins walk North of Clachtoll Beach organised by Historic Assynt. It was a pile of rubble until the group got together raising funds and grants to rebuild the base of what was there. An archaeological dig took place and more can be read in a book recording its findings called 'Clactoll Broch - An Iron Age Home In Assynt' by Historic Assynt. See some of it in pictures attached. It helps explain a lot of what was found and how it tells us about the family way of life in the Iron Age. What a lovely dream to see come true for a fully rebuilt and working Broch on this site in the future. 🤔
Ewan W — Google review
Very well preserved, can still see where the next floor would have gone. We didn't know where it was, ended up wondering around a bit looking over cliffs. So highlighted where the broch is in a photo for others.
Louis M — Google review
Clachtoll broch is a ln iron age ruin that has recently been excavated by AOC archeaology and the local community. Since bring excavated much of the brochs interior is now accessible. Cells and stairs penetrate the 5 meter thick drystone walls forming an impressive experience and a worthwhile detour. The broch is accessed by a short walk along the shoreline and is probably the best thing to see in the Clachtoll area. Good on the community there for bringing this place to life.

Really did a lot of work to this. Stepping back thousands of years and you can feel it. Amazing wee spot. Worth a walk to see it and the views.

Can’t get to it as in a private field. Just seen from top of a hill, not worth a trip at all.

This is really good example of a Broch featuring intact chambers within the double walls and a short section of stairway. There is also a bowl in the interior cut from incongruous rock. Nearby is a large split rock formation, small fisheries museum and great beaches.

An Cala Café is a modern and inviting spot located near Achmelvich Beach in the Lochinver region. It offers a diverse menu with options for both adults and children, making it a great stop for food when visiting the area. The café is housed in what used to be the Fishermen's Mission, adding to its unique charm.
Very welcoming and friendly. They accommodated our large group at late notice. They were considerate of allergies and dietary needs. The food was delicious fairly priced and generous portions. The seafood was amazing. Strongly recommend!!!!

We had fish and chips ( one kids portion which is £8.50 ) and the other main meal £16.95 . Comparing to the other restaurants nearby this one is cheaper and affordable. The fish and chips were quite nice but surprisingly both meals were almost same size. The chips in large meal is bit more . Service is nice . If you are not that very big eater go for the kids meal which is cheaper and will fill your tummy no matter. Add on takeaway haddock is priced at £9.95 small and 12.95 normal size . Cheers! Overall the restaurant is nice and the staffs are really good , welcoming and polite.

An Cala Cafe and Bunkhouse is housed in what was the Fishermen's Mission. We went in for lunch. We had fresh crab, salad, and new potatoes. The crab was real proper crab, not the type you get in tins, and there was a large amount. It was absolutely gorgeous. The salad was light and had a nice dressing. For dessert, we had a lovely cheesecake. An excellent meal at a reasonable price. If in the area in the future, we will call in again and recommend it it to others.

Our ideal cafe - one where all of our picky children can find something they think they'll enjoy and then finish it off. On this occasion the turkey bap, fish and chips, sausage and chips and cajun chicken burger all went down very well. Reasonably priced and - importantly (and not to be taken for granted in this part of the world) - still open at 6pm. Service was relaxed as was the atmosphere. Perfect after our boat trip with North Coast Sea Tours.

Food was excellent. Staff brilliant. We booked the restaurant about 2 months before we visited. Nearer the date of our visit, we noticed the restaurant was closed for holidays. When we phoned, the owner advised that they were honouring our booking and that of another party of 7. Despite us stating we would arrange something else, they insisted. This attitude of the restaurant was further enhanced by the visit . The food, service and staff were excellent.
