Outdoor Activities
Red Beach in Santorini is a small but popular beach surrounded by red hills and volcanic rocks, offering a unique backdrop for beachgoers. The reddish sands and turquoise waters of the southern Aegean create a striking contrast, making it one of the most famous beaches on the island. Accessible through a bit of hiking, this unforgettable cove also provides opportunities for snorkeling.
Amazing beach! Water is totally transparent and with good temperature. Is a different kind of beach due it has little stones instead of sand, you need to know it. The different colors give you a impressive landscape.
Oscar — Google review
This spot is right next to the Akrotiri archaeological site, with parking available in a nearby dirt lot. The path is short and quite popular, with a small kiosk at the entrance — when we visited, there was even a guitar player along the way. The beach itself is beautiful but not ideal for swimming, and you’ll need to bring your own umbrella for shade. Overall, it’s a pleasant and easy walk with lovely views.
Hila — Google review
Simply beautiful! It's a 7 minute walk from the parking lot. Shoes are recommended to walk there. If you plan on staying for a swim, arrive early. The day we went there were at least 100 people there at 10:00
Eric G — Google review
Beautiful view point on the right side of the beach. On 28 October the beach itself was closed with a rope line, you can access the beach but not swim. From the viewpoint you can climb down to the beach or take the road on the left of it. All the local busses stop at the archaeological site from which it’s a little 10 minute walk downwards. Before reaching the view point you will see a sign stating: danger no entry. But everyone continues walking to reach the viewpoint.
Martina V — Google review
The Red Beach in Santorini is truly unique — its red sand and surrounding cliffs create an otherworldly landscape that feels almost like being on Mars. It’s definitely worth a visit when exploring the island.
Murillo P — Google review
Have you ever walked through small goat trails and climbed up and down across cliffs to access a beach? Red Beach is such a location. The beach is pretty small-scaled and with small pebbles. Quite a strange view is the result of a landslide some time ago on some storage facilities close to the cliff-side. You see bits and pieces of something which looks like a kitchen and sunbeds covered by dirt.
Steve P — Google review
Another unique place on a unique island. There are several beaches on the island, and they are all different, but this one stands out the most, with its otherworldly views. You can get there by car, there is parking available, then walk for about 5 minutes along a rocky path.
Alex — Google review
We parked right in front of Saint Nicholas Church and followed the short walking path until reaching a yellow sign covered with stickers — the spot that marks the start of the Red Beach viewpoint The striking red cliffs and turquoise waters were stunning, and we were lucky to come across a violinist playing by the sea, adding a beautiful and unexpected touch to the experience

Ancient Thera is an ancient mountaintop city located on Messa Vouno Mountain, accessible by a challenging hike from the village of Kamari. The city features magnificent archaeological artifacts, including an Agora and a main square, with streets leading to temple grounds, houses, and other facilities. The trek offers enchanting views of the sea and the island. Despite its overcast weather at times, it remains captivating. Visitors can explore historical ruins while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Superb to see ancient archaeology so well preserved. Nice to wander freely through the ruins. The signs provided useful historic details. The walk up is a little rugged so wear good footwear.
Greg B — Google review
When here you must experience this historical site. Sort of blows your mind to think about what it’s witnessed over the years and here we are blessed with its reverence here today. A trek up a winding road, vehicle recommended and not for the inexperienced driver - very narrow and if you meet other vehicles be prepared to reverse against a sheer drop if heading up. A longish trek at the top to the site itself, hard going and sensible footwear needed. NOT for the unfit or less able.
Martin ( — Google review
The €10 ticket price is too high. There are no restrooms and the park is quite large. There are no informational brochures or audio guides. The information signs and benches should be renovated — or the ticket price should be reduced.
Anastasiya P — Google review
Visiting Ancient Thera was a fascinating and rewarding experience. The mountaintop location offers stunning panoramic views, and the ruins give an incredible glimpse into life in ancient Greece. It’s truly a must-see for history lovers. To make the site even more accessible and enjoyable, it would be helpful to add more resting spots or benches along the paths. This would allow older visitors or those with physical limitations to explore the large site more comfortably. Additionally, informative signs or even a holographic presentation showing daily life in Ancient Thera could greatly enhance the educational value and attract a wider audience. Overall, an inspiring place that brings history to life—highly recommended!
A M — Google review
Walk up to the site is hard, but worth it. A city on top of a rock, amazing views. Can be windy, not much shade and no facilities on actual site, be prepared!
Amanda B — Google review
We walked up this very steep 3 KM road not realizing how steep or far it was to the top. Once there we were happy to see a snack bar with water for 1 E. It was 10E to enter. It was very interesting ancient site with so much to see. It took us about 2 hours to walk through all of it.
Sarah B — Google review
Bigger site than expected, you san spend hours. Incredible to imagine how big this city might have been. Way better preserved than expected.
Péter B — Google review
A stunning place. It's just hard to wrap your head around the fact that the city was built more than three and a half thousand years ago. Thanks to Spyridon Marinatos, who began excavations in Akrotiri in 1967, for his intuition and knowledge and, of course, to the site staff for the excellent organization of viewing

Santorini caldera

4.6
(509)
Volcano
Santorini caldera is a mostly submerged volcanic crater with quaint hillside lodging, boat tours, and panoramic seaside views. Nea Kameni, also known as Nea Kaimeni, is the volcano at the center of the caldera. It began forming around 1570 and is the most recently created land section in the Mediterranean Sea. The area covers 340 hectares with its highest point at 127 meters above sea level.
My visit to Santorini Island in August 2010 was nothing short of spectacular! 🌟 This beautiful island is a true gem in the Aegean Sea, renowned for its stunning sunsets, unique architecture, and breathtaking landscapes. From all the places I've traveled to, Santorini holds a special place in my heart for its sheer beauty and charm. The island's iconic white-washed buildings with blue domes are perched on cliffs overlooking the crystal-clear waters of the sea 🌊. Walking through the narrow, winding streets of towns like Oia and Fira, you can't help but be captivated by the picturesque views at every turn. The sunsets here are legendary, painting the sky with vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple as the sun dips below the horizon 🌅. Santorini's beaches are also unique and beautiful. The Red Beach, with its striking red cliffs and sands, and the black sand beaches of Kamari and Perissa offer a distinctive and memorable beach experience 🏖️. The contrast between the dark volcanic sands and the clear blue waters is truly mesmerizing. Exploring the island, you’ll find numerous charming shops, cafes, and restaurants. The local hospitality is warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home. While wandering the streets, don’t miss out on the local crafts and souvenirs that capture the essence of Santorini. The island is also rich in history and culture. A visit to the ancient city of Akrotiri, often referred to as the "Minoan Pompeii," provides a fascinating glimpse into the island's past. The archaeological site is well-preserved and offers an intriguing look at life in ancient times. Getting around Santorini is easy, whether you choose to rent a car, take local buses, or simply walk around the charming towns. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as some areas can be quite hilly and require a bit of climbing. 🏞️🚶‍♂️ If you’re looking for a destination that combines natural beauty, rich history, and a touch of romance, Santorini Island is the perfect choice. 🌴🌺 From solo travelers to couples and families, there's something for everyone to enjoy. I can't wait to return to Santorini and create even more unforgettable memories.
Lineu ( — Google review
Favorite place on the planet. Inspriring views at every turn of the corner. Yes, it is crowded too. And there's a good reason for that. There is no island in the world like this place, so people come in droves. And when you visit once, you leave thinking and planning of the day you'll return again. You can't help it.
Eric H — Google review
Absolutely stunning, it's definitely a bucket list holiday and we highly recommend it🥰👍👌

The caldera, now mostly submerged, filled with water from the Mediterranean. Some parts over 1,000 feet deep. Cliffs emerge throughout the crescent of Santorini. Matchless views. Spectacular sunsets.

What a beautiful place to visit. Every angle is so lovely. Never get tired of it. Slow pace and relax environment. I love Santorini.
Justin C — Google review
The most beautiful and peaceful experience ever. We were on a lovely catamaran with private chef, captain and personal tour guide. The meal was exquisite with bottomless wine 🥂, the Greek salad 🥗 was so fresh the hues of green, red and purple that caused me to salivate! The feta was incomparable to what we buy here in the states! The red beach iron stained hues from ancient volcanic eruption was captivating. The hot springs with snorkeling and pockets of warm water felt amazing!

It is a must visit place in Santorini. The place is so beautiful near the sea. You can go there by ferries from Santorini port which takes about 1-1.25 hours and about 30-35 minutes while driving from Santorini. There are good stores for buying different merchandise of Greece. There you can visit at afternoon and can enjoy sunset before leaving.

The Santorini Wine Museum, also known as the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum, is a unique underground museum located in a cave that delves into the rich history of winemaking in the region. The museum showcases historical exhibits dating back to 1870 from the Koutsoyannopoulos family and offers tours of its 300-meter-long premises situated eight meters below ground.
Attended with my 2 children, this is a must when visiting Santorini. The museum is great, it shows you the history of wine making by the family all set in beautiful caves. My two children enjoyed the audio guide too. This is then followed by wine tasting. Our host was Angela, she’s the best! Super friendly, really knowledgeable and helped us not only with wines but Santorini tips! Looking forward to bringing my family back on our next visit.
Kelly-Louise E — Google review
Great visit here and very informative. euro25 per person gives you the tour at your own pace with a little hand gadget in your language. Enter down the steps to the underground cave where the story of Santorini wine unfolds, sections show original old machinery, how the crop is grown, a story of the family and how the workers did their jobs. If you are interested in wine this has got to be for you, as you approach each story there is a board with numbers on, just press the corresponding one on your handheld & listen...no pressure so the time is yours. At the end you get to taste some of the wines 4 in all and the measures are ok, you will be guided to flavours and what to look for, of course everyone has different tastes but you can usually pick out the main back flavours. A must visit.
Ian S — Google review
My mother and I booked a wine tour and tasting through our hotel concierge, Melanie. Upon arrival we were already expected and received a warm greeting. The historical tour in the cave was creative and very knowledgeable. The vine and grape cultivation is astonishing and gives a next level appreciation for the wine tasting. The last room prior to the exit was very well done with historical artifacts provided by locals in the region and even a retelling of how the islands were divided by volcanic eruption. The bar and tasting rooms are beautiful done and well appointed. Much to our surprise we were escorted to an elegant tasting room. A lovely charcuterie board was also provided. The highlight was the service provided by Angela. She is extremely knowledgeable and has a deep appreciation for the history of each wine. She also guided us on the pairing of each bite. Angela changed my perspective on dessert wines for the 2002 Kamaritis is now a favorite. Thank you, Angela for being a delightful host. We purchase 4 bottles, 3 of which we hoped to survive 2 flights back home. Thanks to your superb packing we can now share Santorini wines with our family for they are truly one of a kind.

Lovely experience. Was almost private going in the middle of the week. The museum and wine tasting were amazing. Loved the design of the place It’s the second best wine museum in the world! Worth trying! Don’t be discouraged when arriving, the museum is underground and wine testing and shop on a beautiful and modern hidden place

This is a must-do if you are visiting in Santorini! We had no problem getting in to the museum and had no reservations prior. The self-paced 8m underground museum is narrated by an audio pack. After the museum, you’ll enjoy a wine tasting. Angela (see center of the second photo) was so well-informed and personable! Our teens were given snacks and sodas to enjoy. Angela engaged us all in the conversation. If you are on a cruise, or if you’re in the area, this is a must-do while you are in Santorini!
Kimberly L — Google review
the ticket includes a guided tour of the museum, which takes you on a fascinating journey through history literally underground. the exhibits are beautifully preserved, and the entire experience is full of interesting facts and stories. after the tour, you’re treated to an elegant and well-organized tasting session, which truly feels special. a big highlight is the wonderful Ms. Angela—she’s incredibly kind, friendly, and an excellent storyteller. delicious snacks are also served during the tasting. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to everyone, it’s a unique and memorable experience!
Lena B — Google review
We did the Gold package tour which included 9 wines for tasting and a charcuterie board of snacks for pairing. Angela was our host. She did an outstanding job explaining more of the history of the family and then a detailed description of each wine we tasted, all of which were excellent. The snacks she suggested paired perfectly with each wine. We spent nearly an entire afternoon there and loved it. Highly recommend visiting this place.
G T — Google review
A must see while in Santorini. The museum has really interesting pieces and you will end your experience with a nice wine tasting of really high quality wines. The tour offers sound devices explaining the different areas of the museum which enhances the experience. Also, the number of wines to sample depends on the experience level you choose while paying at the entrance. Highly recommend!!

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera is a small but impressive archaeology museum located in the picturesque capital of Santorini, Thira. Divided into four units, the museum showcases ancient artifacts from different periods of the island's history, including the Late Neolithic to the Late Cycladic period and the mature Late Cycladic period.
Very good. Being indoors was a bonus so you're not in the sun! Found out afterwards that you can buy a ticket which includes the museum in Fira but the cost isn't too much when buying separately. Staff were very friendly. Unfortunately when we visited we were not able to walk between the ruins due to the earthquakes earlier in the year and the possibility of more but still an amazing visit.

Beautiful! The frescoes are awe-inspiring. Good interpretation and lots to enjoy. I really enjoyed my visit to this museum!
Hannah S — Google review
An interesting, small museum — the visit will take less than an hour. The €10 entrance fee is greatly overpriced. There’s a toilet inside, but it’s poorly cleaned and has an unpleasant smell. The air conditioning barely works, making the halls stuffy, especially on the basement level. Nice place, but too expensive.
Anastasiya P — Google review
Great museum! All the artifacts nicely laid out with excellent lighting and descriptions in English. It was very neat to see the ancient artwork! Just be sure to also visit the ancient ruins in Akotiri. It pulls it altogether and completes the journey you will experience!
Lisa K — Google review
Great small museum (which is a plus, since there are a lot to do in Santorini) containing artifacts from Santorini's bronze age. The fresco excavated from the ancient Akrotiri are stunning and it's worth visiting the museum just to see them.
Andrey K — Google review
Fascinating museum that we went to the day after going to Akrotiri and so so saw the artifacts and wall paintings that were found at that site and referred to in the information boards around the site. Beautiful things, their homes must have been stunning - or at least those of the better off. The museum shows them off really well. Not huge - took us around an hour - but well worth seeing. Puts the site in context.

Luckys Souvlakis is a small, unassuming spot located near Fira's bus station in Santorini. Despite its unimpressive appearance, it offers some of the most delicious food on the island. Specializing in souvlaki and gyros, this fast-food style eatery serves up kebab-style meat skewers and shaved pork or chicken wrapped in fluffy pita bread with generous helpings of tzatziki.
The best, last time we can was 13 years ago. Lucky has been doing it for 25 years and is still the best in the island. Great food, tasty, fresh, cheap but most of all the best service and food
Catherine D — Google review
Pretty good gyros for a reasonable price. I really like chicken gyros wrapped in pita with fries, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki sauce. Pork gyros, and pork souvlaki were OK, but surprisingly not as tasty as chicken. The place is tiny and cramped inside, so most people buy takeout. First, you have to order and pay inside, then go out and line up outside in the pick-up line to get your food. There is a little public canopy covered area across the road, where most people eat their takeout.
Sergei S — Google review
4.20 euro giros. salty, crispy, moist. Not a big portion, even better: enough to be comfortably full. Walk into the store to pay for your ticket, then line up to show your ticket to the giro maker. We sat at the small square with some shade across from the restaurant.
Bryan N — Google review
We tried chicken gyros. It was very affordable, we payed 4.50 euros. Yet it was incredibly delicious. The place is small but you can take your food and eat it across the street, there is a public space.

Chicken pita and pink grapefruit Schweppes. Affordable and mind blowingly delicious. Crispy pita, fresh veggies and sauce, crispy and salty grilled chicken, you will love your lunch here. Limited counter seats
Tay W — Google review
Prime location and A-Tier gyros. Prices are great considering the location, can get extremely busy so there might be a wait, but it is worth it. Staff are super friendly and accommodating too. When visiting Fira and you're hungry, definitely stop off here. The green seasoning on the fries is to die for also.
Ethan R — Google review
Believe the other reviews when they say Best Gyros in Santorini. Their meat is so juicy and it is very balanced with ingredients. Their chips are fresh and really great and the staff are so friendly. Prices for the Gyros is also very reasonable considering they are one of the most popular gyros shop in Fira. Do go early for dinner as they did sell out one day before their advertised closing time

We tried 2 souvlaki places in Santorini, we both think that this is the better of the 2. We even saw one of the tour guides came and grabbed one to go, shows they got local support. Great flavour on both kebabs and chicken, veggies are fresh too, the other place we went not so much. Service was great, and they have washrooms downstairs too, great rest stop for travellers

Kritikos Taverna is a local gem in Santorini, offering a unique dining experience away from the typical tourist spots. While it may not boast stunning views or fancy cocktails, this taverna impresses with its delicious Greek specialties, including an unforgettable pork steak on the bone and generous portions of lamb that are praised for their natural flavors. Visitors rave about the attentive service and fast delivery of mouthwatering dishes at reasonable prices.
We visited Kritikos after a 10km walk under the sun from Oia to Fira - i.e. we were looking for a super easy going place to recharge our batteries. We only cared to came here for the food and couldn’t care less about the environment and the service. We had pork sausage, smoked pork chops (both were really amazing) and the lamb (not the best one I’ve ever had, but overall tasty on the grill) and some salad and tzatziki. Service was fast, they spoke English and we could pay with POS. The place is clearly not meant to take someone out on a romantic dinner while on holidays in Santorini but that’s the only thing “negative” I can say. I would definitely go back.
Marco R — Google review
Delicious meal! We were recommended this restaurant by a Greek tour guide, who we met at a restaurant stop just north of Athens. He asked if we liked meat - which my husband & son said “Yes”! Kritikos delivered with huge portions of meat! We had great service and even got free mini ice cream treats for dessert. The tzatziki was also great! Great recommendation!
Diana R — Google review
We visited Kritikos Taverna this March for our last meal before leaving Santorini. While the dishes weren’t particularly stunning and the meat was slightly dry, the generous portion sizes make it a great choice if you’re on a budget—you’ll leave full and satisfied. What truly stood out was the warm hospitality. The staff even invited us into the kitchen to explain the different cuts of meat, which was such a genuine and memorable gesture. We really appreciate the friendliness and warmth of the Greek people here!

Ordered twice from here during our three-day stay. First time we ordered a lamb portion (10 EUR) and second we went for 1 kg lamb (30 EUR). The lamb doesn’t have much artificial flavor but just pure natural taste; very tasty and crispy in some skins.

One of the most authentic places in Santorini. Away from the crowds and the ultra expensive restaurants. Food is always fresh and tasty.

Highly recommend!! Great service and the food was delicious! Portions are BIG and very reasonably priced. We ordered the liver and pork steaks to share and those 2 dishes were plenty for our party of 4. This is a hidden gem and I'm sure a favorite for the locals. As tourists, we felt at home!

We ate here delicious food, fresh and tasty, the serving was very quick. And also we received ice cream on the house for dessert. For meat lovers it is a really nice option.

Not the most honest bill… Maybe that’s why the restaurant is empty. 18 years ago I went there almost every day during my two weeks stay at Santorini. Real family ambience, with lots of joy, huge portions, very fair prices. Now just the name remains. Every single thing good, vanished with time.

Fine dining restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque area of Pyrgos, Selene Restaurant offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Santorini's vineyards in Akrotiri and Megalochori. With almost 30 years of experience, this renowned restaurant is celebrated for its new Greek cuisine and fine dining. Housed within an 18th-century Catholic Monastery, the restaurant exudes elegance with its arches, palm trees, and a charming fountain.
Selene is such an experience - don’t miss it if you’re in Santorini! We have been twice now and both times the service and food were outstanding. Their team even gave us a lovely gift as part of our honeymoon celebration.

Excellent Food and Service, But Ambience Could Be Improved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Selene offers a truly impressive culinary experience. The food was exquisite — refined, flavourful, and beautifully plated. Each dish felt thoughtful and rooted in Greek tradition with a modern touch. The service was equally exceptional: professional, friendly, and well-informed. However, the ambience didn’t quite live up to the same level. While the setting was pleasant, it lacked the atmosphere and charm we were hoping for, especially for a fine dining experience in Santorini. Still, the quality of the food and service easily make Selene a strong recommendation for any foodie visiting the island. Just don’t go expecting a dreamy or romantic setting.
Liran R — Google review
We visited Selene during our honeymoon and chose the <Half Moon> course menu (€175 per person, the least expensive option available). The atmosphere was wonderful — elegant, calm, and very romantic — and overall the staff were kind and attentive. The experience started strong with excellent bread and olive oil, which stood out even for us as people living in France. The first amuse-bouche was delicious, while the second was simply spinach — not unpleasant, but not memorable either. The first starter, <From Mani to Santorini with Love>, was truly outstanding — full of flavor, beautifully balanced, and a dish I would gladly order again if offered as a main. In contrast, <Mediterranean Triptych> was far too salty. When I gave this feedback politely, instead of the usual acknowledgment you’d expect in fine dining (“I’ll let the chef know”), our server simply said, “Oh, okay.” and walked away. The response felt surprisingly unprofessional and that left us both surprised. For my main, I had <Primavera — fish with artichoke confit, peas, and spinach>. Unfortunately, the sauce didn’t work for me — it clashed with the fish and made the dish difficult to enjoy, though it may just not have suited my personal taste. Desserts were creative, refreshing, and delicious. However, the mignardises that followed were deep-fried, heavy, and greasy, leaving the meal on a flat note instead of the light finish we had hoped for. With two-course menus, one pre-dinner drink each, and a glass of wine each, the total came to €450. While there were definite high points and we enjoyed the evening overall, the food often leaned toward experimentation without achieving true harmony. For the price, the experience felt unbalanced. It was good to experience once, but not something I would repeat or recommend.

What a phenomenal dining experience! Every dish was a work of art—beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. A heartfelt thank you to the chef for the private presentation of the main course—it made the evening feel truly special. The service was exceptional, with special thanks to Alex and Maria for their warmth and attentiveness throughout. The only critique would be the pasta, which was a bit too salty for our taste, but everything else more than made up for it. Highly recommended for a fine dining experience that blends creativity with genuine hospitality!

We had such a beautiful night here celebrating our honeymoon. Our favorite night of our trip to Santorini! The service was amazing and the waiters and sommelier were so kind and punctual. The food was delicious and we felt the care and attention put into every bite! It was so romantic and luxurious and was worth every penny. It was a beautiful, elegant night and we were so glad we went.

The overall experience was incredible. We ordered the half moon with the triumph of the sea, a seafood pasta served with a bisque prepared on the table side. Our server was exceptional, and the food was delicious, even though it was quite expensive. However, the only part of the experience that was a bit disappointing was the yelling coming from the kitchen. The waiters seemed visibly shaken and upset, and it bothered me because I care deeply about culture, even the background details.

Santa Irini Bakery in Perissa is a favorite among locals, known for its early morning opening and delicious array of classic Greek pastries. It's the perfect stop for a quick bite before heading out on a boat trip or exploring ancient ruins. In addition to pastries, pies, cakes, bread, and pizzas, the bakery also offers tea, coffee, and other beverages. Visitors praise the warm apple cake and freshly baked goodies paired with coffee.
If you are visiting Santorini, come to Perissa and stop at this amazing bakery. The Nutella croissant is MASSIVE and so delicious. The baklava is easily one of the highlights of my trip as well. Service was quick and friendly! Highly highly recommend.

A great place to get food. Service was fantastic, with great explanation of what items were. We were never disappointed with what we got. The baking was fabulous and really tasty. Really enjoyed the Greek orange cake, and was inspired to make it when I got home.

A true hidden gem. Pastries ate nice and so ate the sweets. I wouldn't get the pistachio ice cream as I eat real pistachios everyday and can tell it is not the same flavour. The caramel I've cream is good though.

What an awesome authentic Greek bakery. I would definitely recommend to anyone passing by as it was affordable, delicious and the prices were good. Plenty of options for all tastes, which makes it perfect for a breakfast or lunch. Will definitely be back.

Little bakery next to carrefour market. We got a big donut and an apple and cinnamon strudel. Both were nice but could be fresher, staff felt a bit like they were trying to hurry us up but we still left happy. I do recommend for a little morning or evening treat
