Grottes du Régulus is an intriguing site with caves that have been inhabited since prehistoric times. These are not traditional caves, but rather houses carved into the limestone rock of the area. The guided tour is free with admission and provides insight into the historical significance of the site. Adjacent to Grottes du Régulus are Grutas de Matata, which offer a more illustrative experience with preserved doors and artifacts.
Interesting place, to visit. You can see how people lived in caves. You will spend there about hour to visit all places Recommended to visit.
Radek D — Google review
No need to buy tickets in advance — it’s 8 euros per person. The visit takes around 30 minutes without a guide. I’d recommend it only if you’re already nearby.
Hisham R — Google review
A good visit and worth while to get an understanding of why and how the grottos came about. It’s a nice way to spend a couple of hours. Some of the exhibits are a little dated but portray the storey very well
Tweedie — Google review
Very nice to see. The cave is very nice run. A little terrace with coffee (from the machine) is also worth to take a brake. For kids under age of 6 the entrance is free. I recommend to lower the price for older children but in general the price is worth the visit.
Tim S — Google review
Great little attraction. Nicely curated and a wonderful snapshot into some unique local history. Very educational and my kids (6,9 & 14) were kept interested!

It is one of the popular attractions in the area, along with Grottes du Regulus and Plage Des Nonnes. The location is perfect for families looking for kid-friendly activities, as it offers a unique experience that combines history and natural beauty.
Wonderful unique place to stay or for a meal and drinks with fantastic view
Louise Y — Google review
The creperie quality has became disgusting. They do not know how to cook anything, not even opening oysters 😔. Plus it s expensive. To avoid
Jean V — Google review
This is just the best kept secret. Please don't tell anyone how fantastic the peace and quiet of the rooms over looking the Gironde are. They are immaculately clean with amazing balconies with the best views. Fantastic restaurants of Meschers are a twenty minute walk. This is my third visit, I love this place
Peter C — Google review
A great experience and well constructed exhibition-style historic site. The working hotel/bar & restaurant is very good value. Lots of narrow steep steps, so the less-mobile need to take care. Well worth 5€, including an audio guide.
Mike D — Google review
Adorable. Tiny hotel hanging off a cliff with only a few bedrooms. Very small bathroom, otherwise 5 stars. Breakfast served in the room. Quite a few stairs to negotiate. But adorable non the less.
Pat H — Google review
Museum isn´t very impressive. At the end of the tour, you end up in the creperie. However without reservation, you won´t be able to eat there...
Jeroen C — Google review
The visit to the caves was very well presented and we had individual head phones to learn about life there. At the end we ended up in the creperie so we stayed and had lunch over looking the Gironde estuary.

Nice place near the river. The historical rooms and postcards are beautiful and particular. The real old "cuisine" is so beautiful. It's possibile to sleep amd eat in a creperie/brasserie within the matata on an romantic terrasse.

Marina
Step back in time and explore the heritage of the region and its Romanesque art treasures along one of the ancient routes of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. Port de Meschers is a charming place with a quaint marina and a nearby town that can be easily reached by bicycle. Indulge in delicious ice creams and savor fresh oysters available at the local restaurants. While primarily known for its port, this area also boasts delightful cafes and an intriguing plywood furniture shop workshop.
Lovely place with a small marina and town not too far away so can be cycled in a few minutes. Great ice creams, lots of oysters for sale in the restaurants.

Awful thumping noise from DJ nearby from 5pm until early morning. Stayed in motorhome in aire in port for 2 nights. Never again! Do not go there if you want peace and quiet at night. Great location spoiled
John L — Google review
This is a lovely little town with a small harbour full of yachts and fishing boats. The quayside is lined with mainly fish restaurants and small shops. Beautiful views across the Gironde river to Talmont.
Henry P — Google review
Clean and well kept. FREE car parking. Traffic is limited and remains slow, so the walkways feel safe. Quaint and traditional on one hand, with the fishing cabins as a great backdrop to the modern bars and restaurants on the other. No loud music or flashing lights, helps retain a relatively calm atmosphere.
Insanity B — Google review
Quaint place, full of little shops. Lots of restaurants. Interesting boat trip.

Only saw port. Good cafes, very interesting Plywood Furniture shop workshop. Good easy parking. Not sure it's much good for swimming tho.
Nick O — Google review
Quaint small port. Out of tourist season not busy though the bar we wanted to visit was full. Small beach and loads of mud flats. Good parking and only a short walk from the town
Catherine K — Google review
A delightful little port with good restaurants along the small estuary. Two restaurants open all year...the Caravelle and Capaccino. Recommend the Caravelle...Sunday menu du jour €20....wine not included.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful beach, easy to access (if you can park nearby). The sandy cove and small cliffs provide a very good feeling. On the other hand, it's not an ocean beach and you wade through a bit of mud when you enter the water. The water isn't necessarily clear either. The beach is supervised during opening hours. In short, it's ideal for relaxing in the sun, but not really for the water. There are no public toilets or showers (which would be really welcome to wash off the murky water).

We popped in here and had some lunch - nice generous portions and friendly staff in a quirky & relaxed interior. Also areas linked on both sides if you fancy sitting outside in the shaded areas. Nice spot with a good vibe, but definitely overpriced. We were told we couldn't order sandwiches at lunchtime, salads are small (used to be a lot bigger, €14 for a small plate of salad is a bit exaggerated) and the toilets are in the adjoining shop's changing rooms. Overall a decent place to stop for a drink, whereas the food doesn't justify its price.

Big indoor climbing/ play area for ages 1 upwards. Very hot inside, very noisy due to bowling and other games in the same space. Bar with good sélection of drink, but no food during day time. Charcuterie in the evenings. Small cinema on site. Not too expensive. 5€ entry for kids play area.

Expensive and the first barman we spoke with was arrogant and agressive. Bowling is good, pool tables are cheap and small. Overall fun but one of the barmen needs to learn how to treat customers.

Plage des Vergnes

Beach
Plage des Vergnes offers a truly unique sunset experience, with the sky turning an intense shade of red that may seem unreal. The unedited photos capture the surreal beauty of this natural phenomenon, making it a popular spot for visitors and even attracting cruise ships eager to witness the spectacle. This beach is highly regarded for its stunning sunsets and overall appeal.
Possibly the strangest sunset I have ever seen. It is so red that it looks fake.(Seen in May). I haven’t edited the sunset photos but even though it looks fake it’s not far off from what it actually looked like. A large cruise ship was in the distance and it had been waiting for the sunset to happen. So this beach/sunset appears to well known. It deserves to be.

The enchanting Plage Saint Georges de Didonne boasts an expansive shoreline adorned with flawless grains of sand, making it an idyllic destination for beachgoers. Its popularity among families stems from the fact that it provides ample space for children to frolic and enjoy themselves without feeling overwhelmed by crowds.
Such a cool beach! Especially in the morning, there are hardly any people here and everything is so still and calm. The water temperature is higher comparing to other beaches. Besides, the sunset is spectacular! Another plus is that the parking, which is free, is right in front of the beach.

Restaurant Le Baignassout is a charming little restaurant with a fantastic view of the sea. It offers high-quality dishes that rival those of gourmet restaurants. Located on the edge of a beautiful beach, it is mainly open during the summer season and provides excellent service. The menu is intentionally limited to ensure top-notch quality, and the staff are very pleasant and accommodating. Guests highly recommend this spot for its delicious homemade burgers, fries, and drinks.

Made to wait 20 mins for a table in a empty restaurant, cook yelled at the kids then spent the last 20 mins staring at our group. Head waiter told us to get out after we paid the bill. They will survive because the location is great but borderline crazy staff (apart from the young guy who served us). Dog in the kitchen.
Rudeboyoz1 — Google review
One of the most appalling customer service experiences I’ve ever had. If you’re looking for help or respect as a customer, avoid this place at all costs. The staff go out of their way to be rude, unhelpful, and downright hostile. It felt less like a service environment and more like an active attempt to humiliate and alienate people — particularly if you're not local. I left feeling disrespected, dismissed, and shocked by their behavior. If you're considering coming here, don’t. There are better places that understand what basic decency and professionalism mean.

Nice little restaurant with an outside area in a perfect location (right on the beach)! great service and the dishes we’ve had were fresh, tasty and very well presented. A bit loud (inside) when on full capacity but great lunch!! Recommended!
Ana K — Google review
Disappointing despite the beautiful view. The location and view are truly stunning, but unfortunately, our overall experience was disappointing. One of the items we ordered was brought twice, and the mistake was not removed from the bill. The hamburger was tasty, but the steak was very sinewy and almost inedible. There was no communication between the waitstaff, which gave a clear impression of a lack of professionalism. When we asked if the service charge was already included in the bill, we were still politely encouraged to leave an additional tip. The explanation was somewhat confusing, and in the end, we felt pressured into tipping—despite not planning to. The prices were quite high for what was offered. While the staff seemed friendly at first, there was a noticeable difference in how locals and tourists were treated. As soon as you speak English or appear to be a tourist, the level of attention and care noticeably drops. A place with potential—but at the moment, it feels more like a tourist trap than a truly enjoyable experience.

Cafe
On Monday lunchtime, I had the opportunity to visit La Traverse restaurant. Luckily, I arrived early as it quickly became crowded with diners. The hosts were extremely amiable and accommodating. The dining area was spotless and well-maintained. All four of us enjoyed our meals immensely. Two of us opted for dishes from the daily menu while the other two chose from the regular menu. Each dish was cooked to perfection, bursting with delicious flavors. We are eagerly anticipating our next visit.
This was our 3rd visit to La Traverse, and we were very pleased as usual. We arrived at 12.20 on a sunny Wednesday in mid-September - officially off-season - without reservations. The entire shaded terrace was full or reserved, and we got a lovely table at the open window just inside. Restaurants nearby were virtually empty, but La Traverse was hopping, so you know it's doing something right! The menu is fairly extensive, including some delicious vegetarian options alongside traditional dishes such as a really good steak tartare and the ever popular seaside speciality of moules or mussels. The wine list offers good local wines by the glass, b the pitcher, or by the bottle, as well as cocktails and soft drinks. There is a very large ice cream selection, perfect for a snack on a hot afternoon after a session on the beautiful Saint-Georges-de-Didonne beach across the street. Desserts include crêpes and amazing profiteroles, complete with homemade salted caramel or chocolate sauce. We ordered à la carte and spent 76€ for two 3-course meals plus 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees, but they also offer a very good value 2- or 3-course menu du jour for 16€50 or 19€ (from memory). If you go in the summer, make sure you book!

La Forêt, a French restaurant, had been out of our dining rotation for quite some time. Naturally, we were apprehensive to return, but our worries proved unfounded as it turned out to be just as delightful as we remembered: delectable cuisine made with fresh and local ingredients prepared on the spot. The meal was undeniably lengthy, given the homemade nature of each dish, but it was a pleasant experience nonetheless.
The food is consistently wonderful and never ceases to amaze in both quality and quantity. Google prompted me to update my review, this is the only text I have added. La Forêt remains exceptional. Another update, still exceptional. Another update, still exceptional.

We visited as part of a group, staying at camping Logis du Bruil in association with the Caravan Club. Our meal was excellent, ham and fruit starter, lemon ice pallet cleanser, pork fillet with mushroom sauce and dolphinose potatoes, cream cheese pallet cleanser followed by Apple crumble and ice cream, finished of with coffee. Plus wine or soft drinks as well. Better than excellent, and I would highly recommend this restaurant 👍

(Translated by Google) This place has been strategic since the 18th century because an artillery position makes it possible to control access to the Gironde estuary. A first proper fort was established there under Napoleon. But it was obviously during the Second World War, during the construction of the Atlantic Wall, that this site was the subject of a complex of fortifications with a command post, ammunition reserves and several bunkers housing large caliber parts. The site is nice, interesting and allows for a nice walk.

French restaurant
Le Café de la Plage, a French restaurant situated in a stunning beachfront setting, has received mixed reviews. While some customers appreciate the quality of their dishes, such as the well-cooked tuna and tasty hamburger sauce with red onions, others have found certain items too salty or lacking in variety, particularly when it comes to salads. The pizzaiolo's demeanor has also been questioned by some patrons. Nevertheless, many visitors praise the wonderful location and reasonable prices of this establishment.

I also tried the salad with breaded chicken, sooo good! The waitress is beyond rude, she doesn’t bring the right amount of beers, gets pissed if you tell her and if the beer is not fresh, it’s beyond the end of the world and close to insult you for giving this remark …
