Can’t beat eating out on the water with a cold beer! Had the chicken wings and buffalo shrimp and they were fantastic. Service was great too…multiple people showed up to make sure we were taken care of. Great time! And even a good playlist too!

Absolutely perfect. Really cute place on the water with the best grilled tuna I ever had. Coconut shrimp was bangin. Drinks were fantastic. Key lime pie was good. I really liked it a lot, Southport is the coolest little beach town.

Several scenes from the Netflix series The Waterfront, were filmed here at Fishy Fishy Cafe. Our server Armani was excellent. We had Coconut shrimp, Hush Puppies and Fish & Chips. One the water the views are nice. If you decide to try Fishy Fishy Cafe you won't be disappointed.

This place is known for its shrimp. Wish I had known that before I ordered yhe crabcake sandwich. It's wasn't bad but I like my crabcake crispy on the outside. This one looked liked it had been riddled. My dategot the salad with shrimp. It was a much better choice although he did steal some of my very crispy fries. You just could beat the view.

I was visiting North Carolina for work and decided to stay overnight in Southport mostly because of the variety of restaurants in the area. A coworker said that I should try fishy fishy and I was not disappointed. I was by my self and it would’ve been a 30 minute wait to get a table so I took a seat at the bar Instead, immediately. I ordered and had food within 10 or 15 minutes. It was pretty quick. I got the Glen shoulder soup and fish and chips. The soup came out with the meal, I don’t know if that’s the way they always do it or if the meal just came out so fast that it happened that way this time. The soup had plenty of Seafood in it and was seasoned well. I ended up breaking up a bunch of french fries and putting them in towards the end, which was also a treat. The fish fry was haddock, which was delicious. It was fried to perfection in a beer batter. The coding was thicker and heavier than I’m used to yet was fried to perfection and held on tight to the fish to my surprise. The flavor of the fish itself was excellent. The coleslaw and fries were also good. Service was quick and the view is incredible. Looking out on the water is a terrific way to spend a little time in the evening. Go check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

We arrived around 1:45 on a weekday and were seated immediately with no wait. Our server Carrie greeted us and quickly had us beverages. Our party of 7 (6 adults and one 5 year old) all found something to our liking. Pros: 1.) Excellent service. Carrie provided great recommendations that our party enjoyed, including for vegetarian guests. Additionally, when one of our dishes was dropped while being delivered to the table, it was quickly remade and that person was given a side to enjoy while waiting for their plate to be remade. 2.) The food. From top to bottom, we enjoyed everything we ordered. The fish was well seasoned and well cooked. The crab cakes contained plentiful crab. The fries were crispy. 3.) The location. We sat outside right on the water with a view of the Oak Island Lighthouse. Cons: 1.) Each of the adults had an alcoholic beverage and the consensus was that they were okay, but not nearly as good as everything else on the menu. This is a very minor criticism, though, as everything else was exceptional! An excellent restaurant we visit every time we’re in Southport!

Quick wait time, prompt and attentive service. The jalapeño hush puppies were amazing. We enjoyed our sandwiches - the tuna and crab cakes. Highly recommend for location and delicious food!

The surrounds was gorgeous, and the staff were so sweet. There was a wait time for 25 minutes but this was around 2pm so I don’t blame them. Food took a long time to come out, food was amazing though. Jamie was such a sweet server and she was really nice. Overall such an amazing place

Provision Company, established in 1993, is a popular waterfront hut in Southport offering delicious seafood, burgers, and beer. It provides a laid-back beach atmosphere with views of the Southport Yacht Basin, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The limited menu ensures efficient service without compromising on quality. Visitors praise the perfectly cooked tuna sandwich and tasty cheeseburgers for kids. The friendly staff quickly seats guests and serves hot and flavorful meals.
Been eating here for decades. Wonderful food. Quick service! And you sit eating while you look out on the water with boats sailing by. It's the only restaurant on the east coast whose phone number is in my contacts. Love this place!😀👍
Jazz M — Google review
Beautiful location - Even better food! We had "Thee Special" and it was AMAZING! Best crab cakes I've ever had!! Will definitely be back next time we are in town!!
Jenn J — Google review
Love the vibe here. Small entry way where you order at a counter, they're cooking right behind it, and everyone's order goes on one ticket, drinks self-serve behind you. The catch is, you pay at the counter after you eat and can pay individually. This just helps get your order to you. Grab a table on the deck or sit at the railing looking out at the water. Super fast service and everything comes out on Styrofoam plates. What I didn't realize until after I sat down is they have a full bar too, so you can grab a cocktail or two and hang out. I got the "lunch special", which is 1/4 lb steamed spiced shrimp and a deviled crab cake, along with the seafood chowder, which was fantastic. Shrimp were tasty and the declined crab cake was OK... Cooked earlier and warmed, it seemed. I will go back for sure, try something else and enjoy the bar. Everyone who worked here was super friendly as well.

Our favorite Southport restaurant! This is our first stop every time we visit and eat here multiple times before our trip is over. They have the best cheeseburgers and crab cakes! We love the laid back atmosphere, the staff and owner is always so friendly.

During our family vacation, we took a fun and scenic tour with Southport Fun Tours, and our guide didn’t hesitate to recommend Provision Company for the best shrimp in town. Once he said that, it was a done deal—we had to try it. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel right at home. They explained their relaxed “pay after you eat” system and pointed us toward the self-service drinks—a lifesaver on a hot day. We ordered two combo plates loaded with fresh steamed shrimp, crab cakes, and my personal favorite—conch fritters. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and perfectly cooked. A special highlight: it was my daughter’s first time peeling fresh shrimp. I gave her a few tips, and she quickly became a pro. It was a fun and memorable family moment, made even better by the great food and welcoming atmosphere. The prices were reasonable, the portions generous, and the experience unforgettable. Provision Company is officially on our must-visit list whenever we’re back in Southport. Highly recommend!

If you want peel and eat shrimp, this is your place. A rustic restaurant with great food. You help yourself to drinks on the honor system and pay for everything at the end. Overlooking the water. Gets busy! Get there early. We went for lunch. There was no line. Photos were taken as we left. There are many restaurants in this area.

Consistently great food every time I eat here! Its a unique set-up, but thats part of the experience! Sit on the patio and see the water and boats pull in while eating the best seafood!

It was delicious! On the water with a view. I had the shrimp special. Beware: when the tide came in it flooded the area. I had to drive through the water to leave.

Nestled along the picturesque waterfront of Southport, the Frying Pan Restaurant is a delightful spot that captures the essence of Southern seafood cuisine. A short ferry ride from Bald Head Island leads you to this charming eatery, where you can indulge in mouthwatering dishes like crab cakes and po boy sandwiches. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, making it perfect for a day out with loved ones. Don’t forget to save room for their famous homemade sweet potato bread pudding—it's a must-try!
The view is absolutely breathtaking, with sweeping vistas that seem to stretch on forever. The staff member, Riley, greeted us with a warm smile and an impressive knowledge of the menu, making us feel right at home. The chowder soup arrived piping hot, rich and flavorful, with each spoonful bursting with comfort. Riley recommended the Safe Haven plate, and thoughtfully selected the perfect sides to accompany it. Her choices were spot on, showcasing her culinary expertise. Thank you so much, Miss Riley, for the delightful recommendation and for gently guiding my meal choice!

Visiting here and the reviews were welcoming enough to give this place a try. Friendly staff for the conditions that were going on, busy lots of customers and yet it was as warm inside as it was outside. Really felt bad for everyone working, with this kind of business you would think someone who run some climate control. At least if the unit is broken put out a sign or tell the staff to let customers know. If this is normal I wouldn’t return, an exhaust fan pulling air through or something is needed. As the food goes my blackened fish and shrimp were delicious, maybe put a note on the menu that the green beans have pork in them if I would’ve known that I wouldn’t have ordered them. My friend enjoyed her fried bay scallops, though her french fries were either overcooked or were the cheaper kind that when you broke them open, there wasn’t really any potato inside. This place has a lot of potential all these issues are management problems. Before the drinks were served in washable cups as well as the condiments. Cutting corners for extra money isn’t sustainable for us or our environment.

Beautiful setting overlooking the water. Great interior structure too with huge wood beams, light and airy vibes. Crab cakes were great as well as the bacon wrapped scallops. The hung puppies they give young hen you get seated were tasty. But the real show stopper was the green beans, the best I've ever had!
Tara B — Google review
Would highly recommend this place for some delicious food! My wife and I visited and will def be back! We both got the blackened fish and shrimp and I would suggest it for sure. We also started with a shrimp cocktail, and loved that they give you an even number. Cocktail sauce had great flavor. Be sure and pay this place a visit. Friendly service and great views!

Waited an hour but it was well worth it. I got the flounder and my husband got the shrimp and fish. I am a picky seafood eater and the flounder was so good I didn't need any sauce with it. The red potatoes had this seasoning that was so good I wanted the recipe. The green beans were great too. Will be back.

Looking for a good, fresh, and authentic tasting seafood restaurant? We'll you've found it, not to mention the beautiful view of the waterway you have. Highly recommend the crab cake. Food is excellent, and the service here is great.

Pretty cool place. Great view. Apparently a staple of the Southport. 8 outta 10. Portion size is good. Flavors are balanced. Tried unicorn fish for the first time.

The crab cakes were very good. Seafood and scallops were excellent as well. The hush puppy balls were a neat touch instead of rolls. Everything was very tasty. Green beans were real good and had a southern greens taste to them. Atmosphere was cool and the views are awesome.

Early dinner with a great view of the river. Lobster bisque soup was creamy with lots of bits of lobster. Crab dip was very good and the toasted bread made it even better. Salad was fresh with lots of veggies. Crab cakes were well seasoned and the seafood platter was delicious.

Me and my 4 friends came for dinner tonight to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely amazing. The place we were going to go to was packed so we came here and were quickly sat at a beautiful table outside. The atmosphere, service, and food was incredible. Special thank you to Gina for making sure everything was perfect for us the service was 10/10. We will definitely be back! :)

Everything about this place is exactly what you would want in a beachside restaurant. Incredible food, great service, nice outdoor seating right on the water and great ambience inside. I ate lunch here before heading on the ferry to Baldhead Island and their seasonal salad with shrimp and homemade dressing was the best I’ve ever had. Gina was awesome and very attentive. I even brought a friend with me back for lunch when we got back from the island and ordered it again along with a pint size of their homemade dressing to take home. I also have the lobster bisque soup and it was out of this world! The wine is reasonably priced as well! Icing on top!

Very peaceful dinning experience. We had the best service by Cathy. She kept our drinks full and bagged up our left overs. Wonderful atmosphere outside by the water. The food is amazing! We ordered the crab dip as a appetizer. I can't even explain how delicious it was. Our entrées did not disappoint. We ordered seafood platter and shrimp Alfredo with penne pasta. Both were absolutely wonderful. We will definitely be coming back each year on our vacations.
Wendy R — Google review
We have consistently had excellent experiences with Delicious Dishes. Their customer service is exceptional, always going above and beyond to make each visit special. It's truly heartwarming to witness such dedication and care.
Amy S — Google review
If you want overpriced, mediocre food, with mediocre service--I'd recommend this restaurant. You are basically paying for the view, which I will say is quite serene. We both ordered steaks medium rare and my boyfriends steak came out very much rare. The sauce they put on my filet mignon and potatoes did not go with the dish. Neither of us left full. The benches outside were very uncomfortable. Our waiter disappeared and parties of 5-6 that arrived after us ended up cashing out before us. So if you want to pay for the view, this is your place.

Theresa, Steve, Mike, Hatch... and others.... We sure felt the southern hospitality the minute we docked at the fuel dock. We had been "running" from Hurricane Erin for 3 days. Nervous and hoping she was going to follow the path that the meteorologists say she was going to. We have ALL SEEN hurricanes turn at the last hour. We arrived... we had assistance docking at the fuel dock and they also showed us where our slip would be. They also assisted us into our slip. I then went exploring and I met Theresa! She was so kind. Actually listened to me talk... she heard my story. She was very friendly! She gave our dog, Margo, a few cookies. Margo was smitten! Margo kept wanting to go back into the building to say hello and get another cookie every time we walked by. Margo knew it felt like "home" right away. Theresa gave us Mike's card and we contacted him the following day. He was also very pleasant and had a lot of answers to our questions. He said he would take care of getting us a slip for at least the next few months. We were so happy and felt so welcomed we scraped our previous plan to get further south into Georgia and have left the boat in their hands for the remainder of hurricane season at least. Thank you for all your kindness!!!! Happy Hurricane Season! Thank you again to the Southport Marina peeps! Friendships are the Best Ships! Respectfully, Linda M/V Sunshine State of Mind

I was first impressed with the overall quality of the marina as a whole, beautiful. All of the staff are amazing and very knowledgeable about all the aspects of the marina. Dry dock storage is new to me and Kennedy Wright made the entire process of both signing up and understanding how the boat storage works very easy. I found Kennedy to me very responsive to my calls and pleasant to talk to as well as knowledgeable about what the onboarding process is. Highly recommended marina based on my experience with the staff.

Clean and friendly Marina. Easy in and out every time with boats from Freedom Boat Club. Knowledgeable dockhands and staff. Sometimes parking is limited on holiday weekends but we have always been able to get a spot & get out on the boat! Lovely picnic area that we sometimes use when we have visitors, it’s great for a picnic meal after you come off the water and are hungry! Highly recommend this marina.

Clean, modern facility with wide fairways, floating docks, fuel service and walking distance to the restaurants and shops of Southport. Right on the ICW with quick access to the Atlantic. Most significant is the staff, they are top shelf. Knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. I’d give them 6 stars if it wasn’t option.

Great waterfront atmosphere on the Lower Cape Fear River! Brigid, our waitress, was great! And we had some good, lighthearted fun with her: she told me that their crab cake 🦀 are delicious. I told her that I'm a crab cake snob, having spent some time in Maryland, but I would be willing to order them as a challenge. And I wasn't disappointed, they were delicious! My wife, who is more of a land lubber than I am, enjoyed her chicken, too! Five stars easily!

We went for lunch to Edgewater 122 a few weekends ago. Even though it was a gloomy day (as you can see in the pictures), we still enjoyed the outside seating. Excellent service. Overall the lunch was a good experience. Between the four of us we had a burger (excellent!), Cuban sandwich (ok), fried shrimp (ok), a steak (nothing to write home about). We all enjoyed parmesan french fries. They were thin and crispy. My favorite was their signature cocktail - French 122. It was on a sweeter side but the flavors were superb and they used real Italian Black Maraschino Cherries. Delish!

Beautiful afternoon for a waterside lunch! Table for 6 looking for fresh delicious food and we found it! Pimento cheese crab dip, ceviche, Lobster Roll, Tuna Tacos, seared Tuna, soup of the day , salads, Parmesan fries, old bay house chips and so much more ! This is our 3rd time eating lunch here and the service and food is fantastic each time! Our server Alexys was well informed about the menu options and made excellent recommendations for wine, cocktails, and entrees! Alexys checked on us regularly and provided the best service. Other staff checked on our table as well. Overall this waterfront gem is well worth the visit and I hope you and your family enjoy it too!

Staff was clearly overwhelmed and running slow but trying their best. It’s a very busy place and reservation is the way to go. Highly recommend the crab cake but DO NOT get the panzanella salad. It was very salty and overwhelmingly curry flavored to the point where you couldn’t taste the actual components, just curry powder.

Nestled right on the waterfront, Yacht Basin Eatery is a delightful spot that offers stunning lighthouse views and a menu primarily featuring Italian cuisine. This casual eatery boasts seasonal outdoor seating, making it an ideal place to enjoy a meal while soaking in the picturesque surroundings of downtown Southport. Guests rave about the delicious offerings, from thick-cut fries accompanying fish and chips to mouthwatering crab cake sandwiches served with creamy white cheddar grit cakes.
My new husband and I stopped in on our way home from our honeymoon. I was a bit skeptical with the prices, however we were both blown away. Extremely delish and too filling!! Highly recommend this place for anyone. Family friendly too (at least at lunch!). Food came out fairly quick, service was wonderful! Hubby had Fish and Chips (fries which were thick cut and yum!) with Sweet Tea. I had Crab Cake Sandwich with White Cheddar Grit Cakes and Sweet Tea. Every single morsel of food was worth the $52 (this price included the little over 20% tip) As you can see in the photos the portions are more than a healthy serving. Again, pricey for lunch to our standard, however I would eat there daily if I lived closer. That is how great the food was! Can't wait to come back! Thanks YBE!

Food is ok, not enough in proportions but the view was great. 18.53 for a salad and water is not appealing for lunch at a flip flop wearing environment....lol I guess it's better to eat here than not eaten all. I would come back it must have been an off day.

Very overpriced for lunch or dinner. You pay for the location here. Kids meals are $10 and the chicken tenders came out hard as a rock. The kids pasta was really good though. Food was ok but not anything to warrant such prices. Not recommended for dinner or lunch, but maybe late night partying place. Staff was attentive.

Not a great value Shrimp good and fresh. Suggestions make your own slaw and fries. For $17.00 I would expect no less.

These other reviews are basically unfounded. We came here on a Friday night, and there was a wonderful atmosphere with live music. We were seated immediately and greeted by waitstaff. The food takes longer than, say, a McDonald's- this part is true. You might want to come with good company so you don't have to feel as though you need to write a bad review to wait a completely REASONABLE time for delicious food! Basically, don't let the rating scare you off, once you come here you'll figure out for yourself that this is one of the better places to be around the area.

OK so read the reviews but we went anyways. Wait after being seated was horrible. Waited just under an hour for food with less than half full tables. Food was good, but to be served obviously frozen fish and chicken tenders in plastic trays, not worth $53... Service was no better than average. In my opinion, I paid $53 for a $25 light lunch. We had four adults and two toddlers and we were charged a $16 tip automatically on our bill. Trashy looking waitress kept sticking the pad in her pants that she borrowed from her teenage daughter. Will NOT be returning. Now I will wait for management to leave me a bulls*** apology like every other bad review on here.

Hot dog restaurant
Southport Hotdog Company is a long-standing local chain that serves up a variety of hot dogs with an array of toppings, along with burgers and homemade chili. While it can get busy and lines may be long, the food is highly recommended by many visitors. The menu offers customizable hot dogs at an affordable price, making it a great spot for a quick lunch.
Wonderful lunch stop for the family! Hot dog, chips and drink for $5.50 I'm a plain jain kind of girl but hot dog husband got all the way. Atmosphere is quaint and service is so so sweet!!
Allie P — Google review
I tried this place once and it will be my last. I ordered 2 hotdogs, chips and a drink. The hotdogs weren't even cooked and were ice cold. The hotdog buns were pretty stale. This place had no conditioning. I heard that this place was closing down. If it's true, I wouldn't be surprised. It's the customers that keep them in business. Once you lose your customers, your business won't succeed.

We have been wanting to try this place out for quite awhile. Especially since my dad has recommended it several times, and has asked us repeatedly if we've gone! And trust me, that's not something he normally does. So we finally got around to trying it out today, and it was definitely worth it. For $5 you get a hotdog however you want a drink chips or a giant pickle! I'm not the biggest fan of boiled hotdogs. I'd much rather have them grilled, but for the price and speed of service we were definitely not disappointed!!! We will definitely be coming back for more!

Decent hotdog spot in Southport, NC. The staff is friendly. It's a tight spot, and the line can be long around lunchtime. Recommended for those who like hotdogs 🌭.

I have been going here since I was a kid with my Papa. Amazing owners and food! Please make this a stop on your Southport adventure! As a local I, Carolina Beach, I will always go (out of my way if needed) to this hotdog shop.

Great little place for a quick lunch! Service was pleasant and the food was very good. Could have been a bit cooler inside - if they opened a window or put an air conditioner in their small seating area it would have been nice.

Trolly Stop is my all time favorite hot dog place. It never disappoints!! Fast and delicious hot dogs.

What should have been an easy question to someone at a place that pretty much sells hotdogs seemed like I was quizzing on quantum physics - the question being, “What brand of hot dogs?” Fat, bearded Southern boy behind the counter seemed to be stumped, mumbled like he had a mouthful of marbles something about all being different and turned to poorly delivered sarcasm when then asked what they had to put on the dogs. Still ate one of their basic dogs. It was missing something…..flavor.

Fizzy Jane's is the latest culinary gem to grace Southport, offering a trendy atmosphere that perfectly complements its delicious menu. This charming eatery is not only accommodating for those with food allergies but also provides helpful recommendations to navigate their mouthwatering options. The Bo Saam, featuring succulent pork shoulder, is an absolute must-try!
The service was top notch! The food, cocktails, and dessert were all amazing! I had the pom 75 with the steak and eggs and finished it off with cheesecake. I am definitely saving this place in my list of keepers. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday brunch today! Excellent service, wonderful food. The bloody Mary was the absolute best I ever had...smooth, spicy, and fun as well. We had quiche and steak hash. Both were delicious and well portioned. Brian, our server, took good care of us and took the time to help us with our choices too.We look forward to going back.

Such a great experience! Planned on having entrees but the apps were too good to pass up — the steak bites and the crispy tuna were unbelievable (and honestly huge portions!). Our server was amazing and funny, the bartender was great and the drinks were on point (and beautiful)! Thanks for a great anniversary ♥️

Hands down the best restaurant in Brunswick County! The food is consistently spectacular, and I love how the menu is always evolving — it keeps things exciting and fresh. It’s refreshing to dine somewhere that truly values creativity. The drinks are expertly crafted, and the desserts are absolutely out of this world. We come here all the time, and the staff is hands-down the friendliest and most attentive we’ve ever encountered. An all-around amazing experience every single visit!

Fizzy Jane's is a hidden gem! The moment we stepped inside, we were struck by the beautiful decor and warm atmosphere. The service was top-notch - our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. But the real star of the show was the food! We ordered the scallops, carrots, and chef's vegetables, and every bite was a delight. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the carrots were sweet and tender, and the chef's vegetables were a creative and delicious mix. Overall, our experience at Fizzy Jane's was fantastic from start to finish. We loved the ambiance, the service, and most of all, the food. Highly recommend!

We had a small family together in their private room. Arrangements were exactly as requested and the staff very accommodating and professional. As we had several minors in our group, I had requested sparkling cider be provided so that our younger guests would feel included. Althought they do not carry sparkling cider, the staff made a special trip to the store so that it was availableto us. Each guest ordered from the menu and, as usual, all the food was excellent. Fizzy Jane's made our special evening memorable in every way, even taking photos of our group. For dinner, or like us this time, a special gathering, was made exceptional. Highly recommend them for a leisurely dinner or, a special event when you want privacy

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is super cute and fun, a feel good kind of place! We've eaten at Fizzy Jane's twice in one week! As the owner of two restaurants I say Fizzy Jane's is a definite 5-star place! 😊 I'm looking forward to having a "sundowner" this summer on the porch !☀️

The Oak Island Lighthouse, a 148-ft. cylindrical concrete structure built in 1957, offers tours to its balcony. Reservations are required to climb the stairs and enjoy the 360-degree ocean view from the top. It was once home to the second-brightest light in the world and is now equipped with an LED rotating fixture, a first in the U.S.
If you’re in Oak Island, North Carolina, you have to check out the Oak Island Lighthouse! We visited today and had an absolutely wonderful tour. Jeff and Gary, our guides, were amazing—friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about this piece of history. This is not your typical lighthouse. One of the most fascinating features is the staircase—it’s not a traditional spiral, but steps modeled after those on a ship. Be prepared for a very vertical climb! The view at the top is well worth it. Here’s another cool fact: this lighthouse has never been painted! The engineer who designed it dyed the cement in slightly different shades during construction, so there’s no need for repainting—one of the reasons the tours are free. (Hint: they do appreciate donations, so don’t be shy about contributing!) It’s such a unique, hands-on way to experience history, and it’s run by wonderful people who clearly care about preserving it. What a fun and amazing place—definitely worth a stop when you’re in Oak Island! Only draw back .. Book your tickets the season before. It is free and you have to give them several months to get on the list for your specific week of vacation.

Our family spent a week in Oak Island, and visiting the Oak Island Lighthouse ended up being one of the best parts of our trip. We booked our time slot ahead of time, which I’d definitely recommend since it made things super easy when we got there. The staff and volunteers were all so kind and welcoming, and you can tell they really love sharing the lighthouse and its history. The climb up wasn’t bad at all as long as you take it slow, and the view from the top was just amazing—you can see the ocean, the marshes, and the island stretched out all around you. It honestly felt like such a special experience, and the fact that the tour is free makes it even better. The whole thing felt really well run and personal, not just like a typical tourist stop. If you’re in Oak Island, I’d highly recommend checking it out. It’s fun, it’s unique, and it’s something our whole family will remember from this trip.

The tour was great. The group that does the tour is a great bunch of folks. Big thank you for doing this one of a kind experience. This is a very scary experience due to how you get up there. You need to be in good shape and have strong nerves. As a parent. I wouldn’t take my kids there unless they are 15 or more. I think their age limit is 9.

Got to climb to the top of Oak Island Lighthouse! This Lighthouse was the last built in N.C. and so it was built as an automated light. There are no keepers quarters but there is an amazing educational boardwalk across the street from the Lighthouse that gives amazing views of the light and of the Cape Fear estuary. The view from atop the Lighthouse was phenomenal and you can see Old Baldy Lighthouse as well. The climb is not your traditional spiral staircase. There is a series of 7 ladderstairs and platforms. Not recommended to those not able to climb a ladder. To climb to the top you need to email the Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse. This is a local volunteer group that coordinates tours. You can not climb without a reservation through this organization. Email early to be sure to grab a spot for the climb. The reservation is free but donations are highly suggested for the upkeep of the lighthouse!

So glad we took this tour! Breathtaking views. It does not have a spiral staircase. It’s ship ladders. Lots of history here. Great tour.

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers for today narrated tour. We learned a lot and enjoyed the unique climb to the top.

While it dosnt look like a traditional coastal lighthouse it still was a nice stop to see unfortunately we weren't able to partake in the climbing didn't realize you had to book online so if you want to climb make sure to go to there website
Lewis K — Google review
It won't take 5 minutes to view if you don't have a trip to the top. No trails to walk or things to see other than the lighthouse from the bottom itself. Be sure to check out the boardwalk across the street.

Park
Dutchman Creek Park is a family-friendly public recreation area located off the beaten path, offering various amenities for visitors. The park features piers for fishing and boat access, as well as a large playset suitable for children aged 5-12. Additionally, there are picnic tables, swings, and even a book swap location available. The park's proximity to the waterway provides a serene environment for picnicking, bird watching, and enjoying outdoor activities with kids and pets.
Dutchman Creek Park is a great park for the playground and its surroundings. It has wide open fields, great for sports. It has water near for boat watching and reading and relaxation. All around fun time!!
Jordan N — Google review
Drove 2 hours arrived early to visit this park with my kiddo's due to the good reviews. They have a public restroom their are no showers that work, it is dog friendly, the playground equipment was nice the kids had fun for about 15 min until about 10 city trucks came in and started construction drilling in the ground so we left in a hurry. Half of the boat dock is destroyed, and caution tape around the area where it was. Looks as though the park got hit with damage and the workers are trying to repair and make improvements, I believe this will be a fantastic park once construction is complete but is best to stay out of their way for now.
Tina — Google review
The new playground is really nice especially since the old one is falling apart! Before playing on the old play area make sure your kids have a tetanus shot because the amount of broken rust on it is ridiculous.
Sherrie D — Google review
Off the beaten path, but a great playground for the kids when looking for something to do when taking a break from beach time on Oak Island. Meant for kids 5-12, could easily be done by 3+ because there are stairs to all slide areas. Three rock climbing areas were fun, but no swings. Will definitely return!
Greg S — Google review
Loved it!! Playground for the kids, Bathrooms, swings to sit and watch the boats, nice little beachy area to fish and let the kids explore. There is a beware of alligator sign, but of course that just excited my kids more. 😄 We didn't find a gator but the hundreds of tiny crabs that ran out while we walked around made their day!
Scarlett W — Google review
Great beautiful park, lots of running room for dogs and kids. Sail boats in the harbor, beautiful playscape for kids and a nice area for fishing, even had a water fountain and outdoor shower for pets and feet. I love coming here.

From a visiting yachtsman perspective, this park leaves a lot to be desired. They don’t have even a simplest deck to enable folks like us to come onshore. And (after we beached our dinghy onshore) someone has actually stolen our anchor. So much for North Carolina’s hospitality 😎

Ports of Call is a warm bistro with a Mediterranean, Continental, and American menu. The building used to be a museum, providing an interesting and eye-catching interior. Guests have praised the attentive and personable service from servers like Brittany and Olivia.
Great first time experience. It had a cozy feel to it. We went there during the brunch hours and there was live, light music playing. The food was really good and tasted fresh. The service was exceptional even though we sat at the bar area. I would recommend making reservations prior to visiting though.

Our family of 7 arrived when they opened on Friday at 5. Easy to find parking. We were seated right away. Nice ambiance. Waitress was nice but talked very loudly at us. Bread appetizer was wrapped in parchment paper which was stuck to the bread. Couldn't pull it apart. Tasted bland. Drinks were watered down. We ordered two mocktails, and a cocktail. Food arrived after 6 pm. 2 of our orders were the same but one was lighter fare. They got it backwards on the sides so we had to cut part of the meat to make it right. The salmon portion was literally two bites. Our filet was ordered medium well and it was definitely medium rare. Artichoke heart appetizer was bland. Had to ask for more silverware after appetizers since they took our forks and knives with the dirty plates. Octopus was good except we thought it was grilled like on the menu, not sauteed. One person was 60% done with their plate when we got the check. Felt rushed. Fried green tomatoes were delicious. Overall an ok experience but expected it to be better.

Really enjoyed lunch at this pleasant location just a block from the waterfront. Friendly staff and a variety of special items for the day were all very tempting. I had the lamb pops with figs abd they were seasoned very well. My brother had a bowl of Cioppino which was very hearty. We shared the fried green tomatoes with shrimp and they were very good but a little oversalted which is unfortunate. My wife had a soup several which was a thick curry served with bacon crumbles. The bacon paired well with the sweetish soup. Service was very good and I can't wait to come back and try some dinner entrees.

51yrs old and this is my first restaurant review (it was that bad). We had eaten at this restaurant a couple of times before in previous trips to Southport. Those visits were overall pleasant with good food and service. Unfortunately our last experience was the complete opposite. Constantly waited on a drink refills. Extended wait times on food. I got the mushroom crusted salmon and it smelled rotten. My wife got the lighter fare salmon dish and hers smelled fine. Our server smelled my fish, had a strong reaction, and took it back to the kitchen. She returned 10-15min later without my plate, and said the smell was the mushroom crust (there's no way). No offer for anything different, but charged full price for a bad plate partially eaten and not returned. We will not be returning here.
Eric B — Google review
Our family of 6 adults and 1 baby walked into Ports of Call Bistro for lunch and Lori asked how many. We said 6 and a high chair. Her response was “well we only have one server”. She didn’t clarify if she was asking if we were okay with a longer wait/slower service or if she was asking us to leave. We would have been fine to deal with slower service but I asked Lori if she was telling us to go elsewhere and she said she would be right back and walked to the back. I needed to feed my 9 month old, so I asked Scott at the bar if he would mind to give me a half a mug of hot water to warm his bottle. He was pouring wine, so I anticipated that I may need to wait a moment. Instead, Scott said “you’re going to have to wait, I’m busy here.” It was beyond rude. I’ve literally never been somewhere and experienced that kind of rudeness. We didn’t even wait for Lori to come back, we left and went down to the Blue Cow Grille. The employees there were AMAZING and so accommodating. 10/10 do not recommend Port of Call. Spend your money elsewhere.
Charity C — Google review
We were seated right away, but after waiting about 3 minutes with no acknowledgment—despite only three other tables being occupied and two waitresses standing around chatting—we ended up leaving. The host was sitting on her phone the entire time. To top it off, their sanitary grade was only a 94, which didn’t inspire much confidence. Edit in response to owners comments. 7/9/25 3:14pm Thanks for your response, it’s exactly what I expected. I understand your point, but I don’t think waiting several minutes without even a greeting, especially in a mostly empty restaurant, should be dismissed as “impatient.” We’ve been treated better and expect more from a place making the claims that you do. The issue wasn’t just the wait, but the lack of acknowledgment from multiple staff members who were visibly unoccupied. As for the hostess being on her phone for reservations, there was no indication of that, it simply looked like she was disengaged. Head down, looking at the phone (obviously a cell phone). I chose not to rate the food, Google must default to one star of I don’t choose one. A sanitary grade just below the award threshold doesn’t necessarily inspire comfort either. I appreciate the explanation, but I hope future guests are met with more attentiveness, regardless of how long they’ve been seated.
Doug B — Google review
Super cute spot! We got in and seated quickly, staff was very nice. Our server Olivia was incredible. Great food (amazing veggie options). We got black bean and corn empanadas plus fried green tomato (and shrimp) as appetizers. They were super accommodating for me being vegetarian and separated everything. I got the vegan masala dish with chickpeas, lots of veggies, and jasmine rice. I was so impressed. Really loved it here! Thank you!

The North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport is a captivating destination that delves into the rich history of the coastal region. Housed in the officers' quarters from Fort Johnston, it offers an intriguing look at local waterways, with exhibits on piracy, shipwrecks, and storms. Visitors can explore colonial and maritime history through interactive displays and a great diorama of native life. The museum also features fascinating information on hurricane history and maritime rescues.
Great place to start your day in Southport - there are bathrooms and a wide lawn facing the water. Inside is a helpful and well-staffed visitor's desk and a few rooms of local history. I saw some kids running around doing a scavenger hunt, which looked fun. I loved the old photographs and the ships models. If nothing else, it's a great place to sit facing the water.

Wonderful exhibits for all ages. A scavenger hunt kept the young folks engaged, and we all found treasures in the gift shop. We are returning for the historical commemoration of the burning of Fort Johnston on July 19th for a full day of fun! 🇺🇸🥁🇺🇸

We enjoyed the uniforms and interaction near the entrance of the museum today. The scavenger hunt was decent however, having children search for stickers on the wall isn't a scavenger hunt. Get a bosun's pipe or boatswains whistle that the children can actually look for and possibly touch. That part was very disappointing.....

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at southport’s Maritime Museum where I got to learn about the rich history behind Southport and its surrounding waters. I also got to participate in the awesome date-night scavenger hunt experience where couples spent time exploring historic pieces of Southport.

We had such a great time at the NC Maritime Museum! It’s completely free, which was an amazing bonus. Our daughters (ages 10 and 12) had so much fun doing the scavenger hunt, and they especially loved using the periscope to see all around the outside of the museum—such a unique experience! My husband and I also really enjoyed learning about the rich maritime history of the area. It was fun, educational, and a perfect family outing. Highly recommend for families looking for something meaningful and enjoyable to do together!

This place was really nice. Tells the story of the SE part of North Carolina and how the maritime industry developed there. Make sure you read the story of Nehi, a 7'8"tall longshoreman from the area that worked the ports in the 30s.

Southport Waterfront Park is a charming 9-acre park located right beside the City Pier, offering stunning views of the Cape Fear River. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely time at this peaceful park, sitting on porch swings and benches while watching ferry and cargo ships pass by. The park also provides a perfect vantage point to see historical monuments and landmarks such as the Oak Island lighthouse. With its riverside location, it's an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoying beautiful scenic views.
Beautiful view. The pier was really nice. If you fish they have a really nice set up there. Ttgeu even have a cleaning station for the fish you catch The day we were there, there was a craft fair set up. Great varieties of things to purchase. Nice stuff. Such a fun walk.

Nice little waterfront park with lots of benches and swings to sit and look out at the water, plus a small fishing pier. The historical placards are worth a read (ironclads, blockade runners, and more), even if the beach isn't much compared to others nearby.

Great waterfront park in downtown Southport. Free, but limited, parking. Easy to walk to the fishing pier from the main lot. Two tips - 1. it's usually REALLY windy so be ready for that and 2. aside from the pier, there is NO railings, fences, etc. at the waterfront so keep that in mind with little kids.

If you're in the Southport area and need some last-minute outdoor gear, Ocean Outfitters is your go-to spot. This well-organized store boasts a wide selection of clothing and various touristy items, making it perfect for picking up gifts or treating yourself. The staff is known for their outstanding customer service, as evidenced by a recent experience where they graciously assisted a customer with broken flip-flops after hours.

Great place of pick up some gifts for the family or yourself. Toms of selections and all the brand you need. Perfect location near great bars and restaurants. Customer service is certainly below the standard. We typically visit Southport multiple times a year. This year, my family went to Ocean Outfitters to look for and purchase a very hard yeti item to find. The item was behind the register and when I asked the cashier about it, she responded that the item was being held and that she was the one purchasing it. I have never been to a store where it’s ok for the employees to hold items for themselves and deny a purchase by one of their consumers. It’s very unprofessional and displays poor customer service. Hopefully this is something that is resolved in the future or it will likely affect many consumers that spend their money here.

We loved the store but the cashier was less than enthusiastic about helping customers. I greeted her with a "hello, how are you?" And no response. When done with the transaction and leaving I said "have a great day! " which warranted zero response from the lady working the register... love the store dislike the hospitality from the cashier. She seemed like she was forced to be working there and didn't like it.

This store wasn't for me but they had some really nice options for shirts, shoes, gifts, etc.

Ferries
The Fort Fisher Ferry is a convenient way to travel between the beaches of Pleasure Island, the mouth of the Cape Fear River, and Southport. The ferry schedule ensures timely departures for a scenic trip with majestic views of the river, perfect for catching either sunrise or sunset. Passengers can enjoy stunning wildlife and a smooth ride across the Cape Fear River. While some passengers noted limitations on exiting vehicles due to door openings, others found it to be an essential experience with secure and safe passage.
Taking the ferry is an experience I consistently appreciate, with every encounter being overwhelmingly positive. The staff demonstrates exceptional friendliness and a strong work ethic. This ferry ride provides a budget-friendly option for family outings, and we have had the thrilling experience of observing dolphins at sunset, resulting in lasting memories for my family and me.

Fantastic voyage and posted schedule is kept. We went from Southport to Kure Beach and the aquarium and then back to Southport on a Saturday. Fun thing to do and very reasonable.
Doug W — Google review
We had a great time getting on the ferry. It was very easy and saved a long drive. I was thankful for the inside area as it was chilly and windy.
Peggy O — Google review
Great bang for your buck. Only $7 for your vehicle. Very little wait. Quick trip. Fun way to get to the aquarium and enjoy a day trip in the Fort Fisher area.
Joanne H — Google review
The Fort Fisher Ferry is honestly such a cool experience and way better than just driving the whole way around. It’s super affordable, the crew is organized, and the whole process of getting on and off the ferry was way smoother than I expected. You just roll up, line up, and before you know it you’re cruising across the water. The ride itself is really chill. Once the cars are parked, you can get out and walk around the deck, take in the views, and just enjoy being out on the water. It’s not some super long ride, but it’s the perfect amount of time to relax, snap some pics, and feel like you’re doing something a little different from your average road trip. The views are awesome—water all around, seabirds flying by, and if you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of dolphins. The breeze feels amazing, especially if you’ve been stuck in a car for a while. It honestly makes the travel part of your trip feel like part of the adventure instead of just something to get through. Another plus is how much time it saves. Instead of sitting in traffic or adding miles to your drive, you just hop on the ferry and cut straight across. It feels way less stressful and way more fun. Overall, the Fort Fisher Ferry is one of those things that makes your trip feel a little special. It’s cheap, easy, and just a fun way to travel. Definitely worth doing if you’re anywhere near the area.

The attendant at the ticket office was very nice and so was the staff member that took our information. Nice people are my kind of people! ☺️

Thai restaurant
Thai Peppers is a long-standing bistro known for its traditional Thai cuisine and sidewalk seating. Customers have raved about the quality, presentation, and friendliness of the staff. The menu offers a variety of dishes including "Thai Spicy" which impressed a customer who had spent time in Thailand. Another patron was blown away by the Mango Sake and Goong Garee dish, vowing to return on their next visit to Southport.
So excited that Sushi is back! We came in late with a party of 5 big eaters.... asked for the big sushi boat and were blown away by the quality, presentation, and friendliness of the staff. Wife spent some time to Thailand in school and always orders "Thai Spicy". They were a little leery at first, but once she started speaking some Thai to them they hit her with both barrels! And she wasn't disappointed - Thai Spicy it was!!! Love the soups, the curry, and especially the Sushi! Great local people and the best Sushi on the coast! Thanks Thai Peppers for the awesome job!
Mike T — Google review
Not my cup of tea. In the pic you would see a dish called larb. I was surprised when I ordered it they didn’t ask me what spicy level I want and now I know why. They basically have one level to serve the customers around here. This is definitely not how larb is made in Thai land but I totally get it since it’s in an area it’s in.
May L — Google review
My first time here and I was blown away! The Mango Sake was phenomenal and the Goong Garee left me speechless for a minute. The next time I'm in Southport, I can't wait to go back. Thanks so much to my friend for this stellar recommendation!
Toni M — Google review
Food was very edible, place smells, if you can't smell it's ok, if you're used to smell of dogs or like a overpriced meal. 1 bowl of soup and a dish of noodles $30 we split a $10 meal and had tea. Little much for lunch...panda Express is better:)

Have loved them for over 15 years. You’ll always be greeted with a warm smile and their staff are the nicest people. Take time to admire their beautiful multitude of plants and the ever changing but always exciting accessories the main lady wears! They may even reward you with a beautiful flower from their heart. Must haves every visit: veggie egg rolls (spring rolls) and cashew chicken. Add their sweet and spicy sauce to any and everything, it is the best! One of our favorite local places to always support!
Devin C — Google review
Thai Peppers is the most authentic Thai restaurant around. They also have a sushi bar. The plate presentation of the sushi rolls, apps etc are beautiful. Everything is fresh and delicious. Not only is the fare great, their staff is wonderful as well. This is my favorite place for food anywhere.
Audrey P — Google review
Likely the best Thai food in the area. The curry is amazing to the extent that I start having withdrawal symptoms when I've gone too long without it. The sushi and pad thai is also very excellent. This is my go-to place for a great meal. My only complaint is that on some days I think the service could seem friendlier.
Travis R — Google review
I've been going here for over 10 yrs atleast once a week! I absolutely love this place. It's completely authentic which is why most people that review it thinks it's bad because they have prob only had Americanized Thai. This is the best sushi in Brunswick county. And I know all the staff who are straight from Thailand and friendly and know what they are doing! I highly recommend this place if you want real Thai!

Coffee shop
If you're in Southport and looking for a cozy spot to kickstart your day, look no further than Southport Coffee Co. & Kitchen. This charming café is renowned for its freshly roasted coffee sourced from local producers, making it the perfect place to grab that much-needed morning boost. Their breakfast offerings are impressive, featuring an array of delightful pastries—both sweet and savory—as well as a full breakfast and lunch menu that promises something for everyone.
The BEST chai latte we've ever had, by FAR! We come back for it every chance we get. Finally got to try the breakfast bagels today, which were great as well. Perfectly toasty and delicious! The staff is always super friendly and hard working, no matter how busy they are.
Noah B — Google review
I enjoyed the gluten free bakery items available at the register. The lattes were amazing, along with the breakfast bagels. I enjoy a latte where the flavors mix well, and aren’t overpowered by the espresso. The layout of the inside forces crowding and causes the line to go awkwardly onto the small porch and down the steps. My breakfast was wonderful, however, I questioned the hygiene (whether a hair net is required in the kitchen) at lunch time when long dark hair was found in our chicken salad sandwich. The staff was very kind and understanding, allowing us to choose a different item on the menu instead of the chicken salad sandwich.

We are visiting Southport from Texas and found this coffee shop near the pier. Great ambiance… great service and good food. The everything bagel with cream cheese was toasted to perfection. The only downside was the coffee was a bit too hot. We will definitely visit again…

Delicious house roasted coffee and friendly, patient and helpful service. Grateful to have found this place on my way to the ferry!!!

Truly the best CHAI I’ve ever had **in my life** 🤩 I compare all other chai lattes to this one but nothing beats it - a smooth rich flavor with no burn. The breakfast and lunch sandwiches are wonderful, too. Baristas are always courteous and working hard to push out food and drinks. We come here every time we’re in Southport.

Stopped by Southport Coffee & Co and tried their chai latte and a lunch – absolutely delicious! Smooth, perfectly balanced, and not too sweet. The cozy vibe and friendly staff made it even better. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

While sightseeing in Southport during some unusually warm weather this past week, we decided to try this spot for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised with their healthy menu options. Our salads were delicious and we enjoyed eating there. Many locals were eating there and everyone was friendly. Bonus points were local artists work on display and for sale. We look forward to eating there again this Spring!

Cafe
Port City Java is a coffeehouse chain known for its house-roasted, organic java and a variety of breakfast items, sandwiches, and baked goods. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or customize your own breakfast sandwich. With both indoor and outdoor seating, it's an ideal place to relax in the heart of Southport.
We love Port City Java!! The staff is very friendly and we love the mocha shakes. They also have a small selection of baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. We enjoy grabbing our order and strolling around the waterfront (within walking distance). It is a MUST when we visit Southport!!

Perfect location while strolling around Southport and you can’t beat the iced apricot tea as a cool- me-down on a hot summer day. Staff is very friendly

I ordered the espresso freeze and my husband ordered the caramello leche, and we thoroughly enjoyed them both. The barista was really friendly and the atmosphere is quite nice. It was our first stop in Southport after getting off the ferry and I'm glad we did.

Great atmosphere and delicious drinks and bakery items. The mochachino is a must try & you can get it dairy free. Loved this place.

I ordered a mocha latte with caramel... EXCELLENT. The atmosphere is very chill. The location is perfect. The cashier made a mistake and the gentleman making the coffee was so patient. We will return. We did not eat.

Best experience ever and this was my first time coming here. Awesome and warm staff made me feel welcomed. Got a large iced black and tan. It was so good it made Starbucks look like gas station coffee. 10/10 would definitely recommend.

Italian restaurant
Joseph's Italian Bistro is a cozy establishment that offers traditional pasta dishes and Italian main courses such as steak and veal. Situated in a comfortable space with picturesque harbor views, this restaurant overlooks the Intracoastal waterway at South Harbour Village. Although not located in Oak Island specifically, it is worth taking a 15-minute drive to experience this North Carolina gem. With an impressive selection of wines and spirits, Joseph's Italian Bistro provides a fine dining experience.
If you’re looking for the best overall fine dining experience in the Oak Island/Southport area, Joseph’s is the place. Simple Italian/chop house options that are done spectacularly well. You can tell all of the little things are done right. The entire staff is well versed on the menu, have great attitudes, and they truly care about your experience. Ashley was tremendous and really made our night great. It’s obvious Joseph’s is a well run restaurant that delivers and is very much worth it. (2021) Update: my wife and I returned to Joseph’s for our one year wedding anniversary and we’re just as satisfied this time and our previous time. Joseph’s does such a great job ensuring your money is well spent through exceptional service and amazing food. The veal tomahawk was an amazing cut of meat while the tiramisu was some of the best we’ve ever had. (2024)

Good was great. Large portion of Shrimp Scampi. Enjoyed a specialty drink as well. It was a bit noisier than I expected but it is high season. Service was a little off. Received our appetizer before serving our drinks. Otherwise a pleasant evening.

This place is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just craving Italian food, this spot delivers every time. Can’t wait to come back!

Delicious food and great service. I ordered the fish of the day piccata style. It was scrumptious. Girls trip dinner, my friends both ordered the linguine and clams.
Kinde R — Google review
We have been going to the island for over 10 years. Joseph's is always a family tradition. The food is absolutely 5-Star but let's talk about the service.... Absolutely amazing staff. Over the years I have noticed its the same staff in the restaurant, so that tells me the owners must be absolutely amazing on taking care of their staff. This doesn't mean leave a less tip, because they are the best. Keep up the great reputation Joseph's and we will see you next year.
Tony B — Google review
Being from Florida and enjoying quality Italian food this restaurant was an utter disappointment! The pasta was mushy and overcooked, the eggplant was made with a thick breading and it was gummy so we threw it away, the calamari was soggy, the balsamic vinegar salad dressing was thick and gummy like it came out of a cheap bottle from a grocery store and the bread was served with a melted cheese that was far from artisan. So sick of going to mediocre restaurants that charge exhorbidant prices! $45 for those two items! This is exactly why my wife and I cook our own food and rarely eat out unless we know the restaurant. How people think this is a quality Italian bistro is beyond me.
M 2 — Google review
The lasagna was sooo good and a very generous portion! Came with a side salad but no bread. Greeter at the front counter was rude and took forever to acknowledge we were there. No utensils for Togo orders.
Kierra H — Google review
My family and I love this restaurant. It has become a tradition during our visits to Oak Island/Southport. The service is excellent and the food is well-prepared and well-presented. This would be a five-star review but for one thing; the Italian mobster decor. Looking a mug-shots of violent criminals while I eat does not enhance my dining experience. As common (and unimaginative) as this is, I do not understand why any Italian restaurant would want to put the worst of Italian culture on display and elevate it in this way. As a second-generation Italian-American, I do not appreciate the glorification of the Mafia.
