Mendocino in 5 days

If you only have 5 days to spend in Mendocino, we’ve narrowed down the top places you should check out to get the best experience of your time here.
Mendocino blends rugged Pacific coastline with a quaint, Victorian-era village set on dramatic ocean bluffs. Visitors come for cliff-top trails, redwood forests, and beaches backed by rocky headlands and sea caves. The town offers small galleries, inns, and restaurants in walkable streets, plus nearby wineries and breweries in the surrounding county. It’s also a popular base for whale watching, kayaking, and scenic drives along California’s Highway 1.
With favorites like Jug Handle State Natural Reserve, Mendocino Market, and Mendocino Headlands State Park, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Fog Eater Cafe and Patterson's Pub so you can get the best taste of Mendocino while you’re here. To see our full list of food recommendations, check out our best restaurants post. If you're traveling on a budget, you can check out our cheap eats post.

Mendocino Headlands State Park offers miles of trails along the cliff, secluded beaches, and stunning views in a 7,400-acre wildlife corridor. The park is surrounded by bluff trails and windswept views on three sides, providing a buffer between the quaint town and the dramatic ocean waves.
One of my favorite stops on our trip. Stunning view with a land bridge you can walk across. Beautiful flowers blooming, Cute town too!
Andrea G — Google review
Absolutely stunning vistas right outside of town. There's no gate, park closes at sundown, not at 5. No benches so bring your own chairs. I think these are puffins of some sort, penguins don't travel this far north
Muhammad G — Google review
Mendocino Headlands State Park is absolutely stunning! The park offers dramatic coastal bluffs, sweeping ocean views, and plenty of scenic walking trails right along the edge of the cliffs. It’s an easy spot to access from the town of Mendocino, making it perfect for a quick stroll, a picnic, or just sitting and soaking in the views. We loved exploring the trails at sunset—watching the waves crash against the rocks was unforgettable. Parking is convenient, and the park feels peaceful and uncrowded compared to other coastal spots. If you’re visiting Mendocino, this park is a must-see for its breathtaking scenery and relaxing atmosphere.
Thuy T — Google review
A wonderful place to visit for a breathtaking view. A great place to gather your thoughts and be happy to be alive. A great place to view the West coast
Daryl F — Google review
An absolutely beautiful place. As you walk along the paths you see magnificent rock formations, waves and birds. For the adventurous, trails take you a bit closer to the beauty. Lots of places to sit and relax. Very pet friendly. This is a must stop and see spot.
Jeanette S — Google review
Has several trails to choose. Pick 1, or 2 or an afternoon exploring. Easy to moderate trails.
Andres B — Google review
Amazing spot to visit with great views and ample picture opportunities.
Adam S — Google review
One my favorite cities in the world, Mendocino and one of my favorite state parks! Filled with tons of hiking trails that can take you into the forest or down to the shores. No matter which way you decide to go, you will find beauty and breathtaking views all around. View Big river to the south and look for the light and the horn of the lighthouse as you hike the headlands trail all the way north. The best guide for the trails is The Hiker's Hip Pocket Guide to the Mendocino coast! And if you do go to the park make sure to go down to Portuguese beach. I call it the stairway to heaven, and once you go, you'll see why.

Trillium Cafe & Inn is a charming spot in Mendocino, CA that offers a delightful dining experience. The restaurant serves seasonal seafood and steak dishes, complemented by local wines and artisanal desserts. Their menu caters to various dietary preferences including meat eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians, and gluten-free diners.
The food was fabulous 5 stars. Especially notable was the scallops, lobster mushrooms, halibut, rock fish with sunchoke puree and the amazing Dubai bar.The only food item that was not up to par was the side order of risitto which was made with regular lon grain rice instead of Arborio rice. it was dryer and not creamy .Our servers were very friendly and professional. .
Carlo G — Google review
We enjoyed the Blue Cheese Salad and Scallop starters and the pork chop and ribeye for mains. The steak was was very tender and cooked perfectly. The pork chop was decent. There are some red wines by the glass that were good, but not fantastic. Service was relaxed, but professional. Our server Jen was attentive. As other reviews noted - Good service, Good food - with the scallops and Ribeye being excellent. Nice for a special night out.
David D — Google review
Sandra and the crew were over the top accommodating. I stayed here at the inn for two nights while a storm rolled through and got to watch it from the upper floor room. The room was very clean and cozy with quality coffee to brew in the morning and comfortable chairs to do some reading. The restaurant down stairs was delicious offering fine cuisine without a pretentious feel and continued charming service. All and all a great couple of days spent here at trillium. Thank you.
Billy G — Google review
Went to the café for dinner on a recommendation from a local and unfortunately did not have the best experience. At the start of the meal a server offered bread, which turned out to be a single slice of ice-cold focaccia without any butter or olive oil. I will say that the young men who brought water and offered bread were super polite and attentive throughout the meal. The blue cheese salad was… fine. It was the best thing we ate all night. The wild mushroom appetizer was interesting in theory, but the chanterelles were chopped into a pile of unidentifiable bits and served over a cold, flavorless purée. We then got our entrees after a lengthy wait. The (FORTY SIX DOLLAR!!!) sole special was unseasoned and undercooked, with the fish served flopped over onto itself atop another pile of cold, sweetish veggie purée. My partner had the duck breast, which was sinewy and poorly cooked with fatty skin. Her meal came with a side of lukewarm, gluey risotto that more closely resembled oatmeal in texture and taste. We were literally looking at each other in silent disbelief that the food was that bad; I can’t remember the last time we paid that much for a meal that neither of us enjoyed eating. We opted to skip dessert and forego takeout boxes despite it being a special occasion, and frankly the waitstaff didn’t seem at all surprised to hear it. Maybe it was just an off night, but I definitely wouldn’t return and will be taking other recommendations with a larger grain of salt in the future! Online reviews and local recs did not match up at all to the experience we had, and I feel a little bit like I’ve been taking crazy pills after reading all these reviews raving about their food. We eat out a lot and aren’t exacting critics or anything, but this was REALLY not on par with any other meal we’ve had at these kinds of prices. I’ve had better food at a funeral buffet.
Anna H — Google review
I’ve only left one other review on a restaurant prior, because I hate to knock any small business, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t address our visit as a warning to those considering it for any special occasion. We went to dinner at Trillium for our first wedding anniversary (which I did put in the resy notes & they did acknowledge). We were sat at a table where my husband had to eat his $45 skirt steak entree staring at a trash bag and plumbing. We also had the ambience of the other plumbing pipes (directly next to my seat) buzzing off & on throughout the meal. There shouldn’t even be a table at this part of the “garden” patio. Despite asking multiple times (with two different people) we also didn’t receive water until our entrees arrived. We did very much appreciate their ability and willingness to accommodate a dairy allergy! But overall, at this price point, we were very disappointed. If you’re going to charge SF level prices, the food & experience has to be up to par.
Arielle B — Google review
Best Cod I’ve had in my life, caught fresh daily. The tart was so yummy as well. We loved the orange warm colors and simple yet elegant atmosphere.
Wayfarer — Google review
We dined at the restaurant because it’s highly reviewed in many travel blogs. The food and service were both disappointing. My wife’s fish was way undercooked and when it’s redone, it’s clearly broiled with char on it. My fish dish lacked flavor - an airport sports bar would have tasted better. There are many other great restaurants in town, not worth coming here.
Junda Z — Google review
Great experience! Unfortunately, they were out of two of the three vegetarian dish options. Did not have a choice in what to order from the menu. Would have been nice to know that after waiting an hour to be seated. Otherwise the food and experience was great. Fun gift shop and oyster bar as well! Would recommend.

Cafe
GoodLife Cafe & Bakery is a charming spot located in the heart of Mendocino, offering fair-trade coffee, organic light bites, and refreshing juices. The cafe provides an easygoing space with outdoor seating for visitors to enjoy their meals. Situated in the town of Mendocino, it's conveniently close to Nicholson House, a stately Victorian former family home transformed into an art deco-inspired hostelry. Guests can indulge in California-French gourmet dining at Cafe Beaujolais nearby.
Wanna put a little joy in your day, go and have a taste of the Good Life Cafe in Mendocino. It's fun, friendly and delicious. There is joy in the bottom of a cup of "joe", the sweetness on your tongue of a fresh baaked pastry, and savory flavor in a breakfast of lunch entree. Everyone here seems to be smiling, its festive, like you walked in on some old friends. Choose from many of the varied meals or pastries, take sometime out of your local stroll or visit to town. Classic period building welcomes you to a cozy, atmosphere where the aroma smells of roasted beans, and warm pastry. It feels special because it is.

Busy but cute. We stopped around 11am and it was already pretty busy and loud for lunchtime. I ordered a cappuccino that turned out much closer to a latte. Food was good. Service was great, very attentive and personable. They have a great selection of gifts and souvenirs. The bathroom is very small and not accessibility friendly.
Nicole S — Google review
Great selection of brunch items but stay away from the pastry case items. So-so coffee. Cafe offers great local ingredients which is always appreciated. 5-star service, thank you we had a good time overall. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing but Peach Ginger Gallette was a big no! $14 for underbaked tasteless pie crust. Big no! Danish tasted more like stodgy bread. Bagel was great..will order again! 🥳 Coffee was so-so. Walk 2 blocks down to The Waiting Room cafe for a proper coffee. May come back to try their specials next time. But overall cant recommend anything from the pastry case.
Hester P — Google review
FWIW, the $22 3 egg omelet is not for those who aren't really hungry. 3 eggs will never wrap all the greens, mushrooms, etc. from the "Greens Omelet," much leave room for a half-meal sized side, and toast. Excellent eats, though. Great coffee too. Spicy Mexican Mocha was exceptional. This spot has a tight "indoor" area, a side deck with walls and a tent for 'outdoor' seating sporting gas heaters, and a backyard lawn area. Impressive planting IMHO, but we live in a colder agricultural zone. Wellworth stopping in, but for the larger sized humans, that one bathroom is seriously toght quarters. They also sport an honor system produce shack, and it all looked exceptional.
Marc M — Google review
From the moment my wife and I walked on I knew it was going to be awesome. Everything is cooked homemade huge portions. Service is magically fast like a food genie within minutes what would take me at least an hour to make is lovingly placed before us. I would definitely want to eat here again. I also want to mention the artwork is captivating with bright psychedelic colors and intriguing imagery of people with dynamic lifelike expressions. It’s almost like they’re alive.
Stan L — Google review
Visited from out of town and truly fell in love with this Cafe. The food and service were spectacular. Also ordered a Mexican mocha drink that was delicious. Gets busy but wait times are very reasonable. Worth the wait. Will definitely be back when in town.
J A — Google review
Nice breakfast spot. We got a tasty lemon and blueberry scone to go as well. Was quite busy but worth the 15 minute wait.
Kevin K — Google review
This cafe goes the extra mile. Judging by the spices at the bottom of my Chai Latte, it was made from scratch. Everything we ordered was delicious, and there was something on the menu for everyone. The portions are generous and the prices reasonable. It was our first stop in Mendocino, and my first words after sitting down and seeing the menu was "I'm in love".

Big River Beach at Mendocino Headlands State Park is a popular destination located near downtown Mendocino. This white sand beach offers various activities such as picnicking, sunbathing, and launching canoes or kayaks to explore the nearby Big River Estuary. The beach is part of the 42-mile Big River where visitors can hike along a 16-mile trail and observe playful otters.
The Big River beach is another tranquil and scenic spot in Mendocino. It is an estuarine area stretching from the Mendocino and a sprawling white sand beach. It can be accessed from various places, and has lots of parking. Take a stroll, walk your dog, sport water activities, enjoy a picnic or simply relax on a beach chair, this beach is good for everything.

Easy walk from town down the path. Beautiful at all times of day. Especially at sunset.

Should have better signage. We had noise how to get to it. Google Maps did not have directions to this place. If you want to go, here are the directions: access is behind the church (which has parking). The trail google has on maps (on the right) will not take you to the beach. Take the trail on the left which will lead you to a staircase that ends at the beach.
Kishara S — Google review
I love this beach. It's pretty easy to get to and provides both an ocean beach and surfing area, as well as a river swimming and kayaking area, plus tons of sandy areas to spread out.
Will D — Google review
A very cool estuary you can visit. Usually there aren't too many people here and the views are very scenic. It's always a pleasant walk up and down the beach, and you might spot some wildlife. The highway passes right over you which is pretty unique.

Point Carrillo was a beautiful site. There was a group of children in the classroom /gift shop. I enjoyed how the instructor interacted with them. Everyone was welcoming & helpful. Lodging onsite looked lovely!

Such a cool working lighthouse! It’s a little walk to get to the lighthouse and museum (unless you are staying there overnight or have a placard), but it’s well worth the walk. It’s scenic and the little museums both inside the lighthouse and the keepers quarters were fun to explore. The docents knew their stuff too! I would suggest going on a weekend when you can go up to the lens because it’s spectacular and really fun to learn how they used to have to keep the light going!
Alison E — Google review
A breezy, briny postcard that actually exists. This little lighthouse on the Mendocino coast feels like stepping into a coastal postcard—history, sea spray, and a view that makes you forget the daily grind. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot seals or even migrating whales. The site packs a tiny museum and preserved keeper cottages. It’s neat to imagine the old lamp room and lighthouse life Rating: 4.5/5 — Excellent for a short, scenic detour with a hint of history and a lot of wow-factor. Would return for the fog, the view, and that lingering sea spray scent.
Brice D — Google review
The mile walk is fun, the lighthouse & its view is 5-star. The trail around this is gorgeous and plenty of parking space available, and clean restrooms available.

Nice walk to the lighthouse. The keeper's house musuem/exhibit offered an intimate glimpse into the daily life of a past lighthouse keeper.

Located in the heart of Mendocino Village, Fog Eater Cafe is a must-visit vegetarian eatery offering a unique blend of Southern comfort food and fresh, healthy fare. The cafe prides itself on using only organic produce, locally sourced from Mendocino or Sonoma counties. Their menu features California cuisine with a southern twist, offering plant-based dishes that can be prepared vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free.
Fog Eater Cafe is a wildly charming gem nestled perfectly in the dreamy coastal town of Mendocino. If Southern California has Crossroads, Fog Eater is the shining beacon for vegans in NorCal. The southern-inspired cuisine is exceptionally executed—comforting, flavorful, and satisfying enough to impress even the most devoted carnivores. The wine list is beautifully curated, and the low-ABV cocktails are inventive and refreshing. The space itself is cozy and adorable, the service warm and attentive, and the soundtrack always on point. Be sure to save room for dessert—their sweet offerings are as thoughtful and elevated as the rest of the menu. Truly top notch pie game. A must-visit for anyone—vegan or not—looking for a memorable dining experience on the Mendocino coast.

Wow!!! Such a beautiful experience. Everything we ordered was perfectly thought out and prepared: The salad was delicious, the hush puppies and the fried green tomatoes were so satisfying and bursting with flavour, and the fried mushrooms with mashed potatoes and greens were divine!! We also got a great orange wine and a white negroni, which were delightful and ended the meal with beignets. Four fried dishes, but all unique and non too heavy. The place itself is super cozy and inviting. It’s very clear that the owners are talented and have a clear vision. Would absolutely recommend and hope I can come again soon!
Mandy C — Google review
This place was a grand slam of an experience. My wife and I were immediately both super impressed with the charm of this cafe. The mismatched salt and pepper shakers, fun and vibrant colors, Nancy Sinatra playing in the background, and the ice cream parlor feeling bar facing the small kitchen. I kept feeling like I was in a Wes Anderson movie. My fried blue oysters with mashed potatoes were absolutely wonderful and flavorful, and my wife’s pistachio crusted tofu was also unique and incredible. We even got pie for dessert (which we don’t normally do) and were again, extremely happy with our choice. The whipped cream on top was fluffy and not overly sweet, the crust was flaky, and the caramel drizzle was rich and delectable. We left, happy as two (vegetarian) clams, and as we walked away, captured the night time quaintness of this side street gem. Thank you so much for serving us our favorite meal on our honeymoon. Can’t wait to come back.

Amazing meal start to finish. Boiled peanut appetizer (gratis), mac n chz and braised greens, pistachio creme brulee. Oh and a shrub! Divine. Looking forward to next time

Nice service from this place. I ate at the bar, walked in when it opened for the day. They serve vegan, southern-inspired food which is delicious. I enjoyed the nettle soup, and fried green tomatoes with vegan pimento cheese. They bring boiled peanuts to snack on gratis

Charming & fun plant-based comfort fare: teeming with character (each crockery piece seems entirely distinctive), friendly service and a diverse yet reasonably-sized menu. Everything can be made vegan! Brunch is the stunner - Sunday only but please get the cornbread French toast. The desserts aren't too sweet, the flavours are innovative and above-average, and the portions are a good size.
Amanda Z — Google review
This is a quaint little vegan restaurant, with a very innovative menu though a little pricey in my opinion. Love to see such vegetarian/ vegan places. The food here is very tasty, so much so that we decided to repeat our small plates. We tried the hush puppies and the crabbie cakes. Both were very good. I also ordered a herbal spritz, which was very refreshing. We also tried the rhubarb and strawberry pie - the least favorite of the entire meal I would say and I would not reorder that. They apply a 20% gratuity and they mention that while billing, rather than just sliding it in which I think is a +1.

Pub
Patterson's Pub is a charming Irish hangout located in Mendocino, offering a blend of traditional pub dishes and global flavors. The cozy cottage setting adds to the inviting atmosphere, with quirky touches like a moose wearing a sombrero indoors and old seats from Candlestick Park outside. This over-21 establishment is known for its mouthwatering fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, tantalizing fish and chips, and delectable blackened cod sandwiches.
Loved everything about this pub! The service was great, the food was excellent (including the berry cobbler alamode for dessert - not pictured, sorry!) and the atmosphere was cozy. Our server, Ryan, was attentive and friendly and they had ample heating outside with blankets to use. The garlic cheese bread, Hollywood Salad and Beef Burger were delicious. We may go there again before we leave the area!

We came to this restaurant for dinner. Upon arrival, we requested a table for two. The host stepped away for a moment, and when she returned, she attempted to seat us at the bar. However, we politely requested a regular table instead. As we were about to leave, she made an effort to find a proper table for us. We ordered the clam chowder, spaghetti, and fish and chips. Clam chowders 3/5 A lot of potato and carrot. Spaghetti with shrimp 1/5 Spaghetti with out texture and shrimp only 5 pcs . For extra charge 10$ for 5 shrimps. Fish and chips 2/5 I’m order fish cod fish still raw some water come out from fish. Both cocktails very goods. This place good for drink not for food.

Stopped by Patterson’s in Mendocino and tried the fish and chips along with a Beyond Burger. Honestly, neither dish was anything special. The fish and chips were okay but lacked the crispiness and flavor that make the dish memorable, and the Beyond Burger was just average—not much to set it apart from a standard pub bite. The pub itself has a cozy, lively atmosphere and is a nice place to hang out, but food-wise, it didn’t really impress. A decent stop if you’re in town, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.
Shahab S — Google review
Delicious! We had the Lobster Melt and the Crab Cake Benedict for lunch and enjoyed both. We came back for dinner and had their fettuccine Alfredo with prawn and loved it too! A solid spot overall!
Robert U — Google review
Since this town gets crowded with tourists on weekends, this place also lacked enough seating. It presents itself as emphasizing the overall atmosphere and identity of an Irish pub, yet it doesn’t even serve Guinness beer properly tapped into a Guinness glass. The bar table was cluttered with too many chairs, making it uncomfortable to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the guests next to me. Before sitting down, I asked if the Guinness was tapped into a proper Guinness glass, and was told yes—but they served it in a small glass shaped like a Guinness pint, while charging the full pint price. The clam chowder and fish & chips were not worth boasting about either. Essentially, the interior decorations are meant to create a certain atmosphere and give off an “authentic” impression, but in my personal opinion, it’s very hard to see this place as truly Irish.

This is a cute pub, I ordered the smash burger, and he had the black cod tacos... both were specials.....we were both happy with our choices. He ordered a beer and said it was delightful.

My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to go to the beach. I have never been to a California beach before. It was pretty incredible. Afterward, we decided to drive up the coast in search of food. After driving for many miles, we finally come to this tiny coastal town. We walked around and smelled so much amazing food, but everywhere was closed for lunch lol. I could hear my stomach grumbling and didn't think I could walk any longer and almost settled for the food truck, until we found this pub. We walked up and a woman took us to a lovely outdoor setting, as my partner and I are sober. The place was very cute. The atmosphere was cozy and we certainly lucked out on the weather. We started with the crab cakes and clam chowder. The crab cakes came on a plate of perfectly seasoned salad. It was amazing. But the chowder, best chowder I have ever had. Perfectly creamy and a hint of spice. Then I ordered the fish and chips and he ordered the fish sandwich. We were not disappointed. The servers were on it even though they seemed pretty slammed. The people in Cali sucked, but this place made Cali look just a little bit better. FYI, if you have a vehicle that isnt electric, make sure to have google maps and your music ready to go before you get in your car or you will be surrounded by crazies for "idling" and "killing the planet".

Salad with avocado toast was super fresh and delicious! Service was a little slow but great atmosphere. Went here again for dinner, great food again! The Manhattan Noir cocktail and the Grilled Peach Napoleon desert were amazing!

It's a charming place to visit in Mendocino. The food was good overall, though not perfect. The fish needed a bit more flavor, but we added the sauce from our oyster plate, which made it great. The duck was delicious, but the Brussels sprouts were too fried and dry. The salad was very good. Overall, it was a good experience.

Ordered the heirloom tomato caprese, fried chicken, and grilled Painted Hills steak—each dish was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a delight. Our server was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. Highly recommend this spot for a memorable meal.

My husband booked this place for dinner. It was a great atmosphere. It was busy, because they had a rehearsal dinner going on. We decided to do the prefix dinner with wine pairing. It was very goid, but very expensive. The most I think we ever paid for a dinner.😐 They had a problem with a black beetles, that would jump on you. That was the worst thing about the evening. Need to get the pest control out there. Should have complementary offered a discount, but I guess they didn't think it was issue.

Top of the heap. What they do they excellent at. Food drink environment. You will pay for the experience, but so much nicer than smaller places. Such as pubs and small restaurants. Really enjoyed the experience.

Saffron Risotto was superb while the lamb was weirdly chewy and lukewarm when it arrived to our table. Good flavors, and ambience.

We had a very good dinner while staying here at the inn. For cocktails my wife had the Green Goddess (spin on a gimlet) and I had the Pandemic Sour (couldn't resist the name). We had the cheese plate appetizer, followed by a good beet salad. The mains were the duck confit and the pasta special (housemade fettuccini with trumpet mushrooms and chicken). All were very good. This was one of our top two meals during our stay in Mendocino. All the dining was outside under a covered tent, with heaters. (Heads up if you stay at the inn they aren't serving breakfast yet)

Celebrated an anniversary here and had great time here. Our waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. Best dish we had was their scallops appetizer, delicious! Every course was perfectly heated to that just right temp, sounds small but makes a difference. Nice seating options, can see sunset. Also save room for dessert if you can, their ice cream was yummy.

Northern Italian restaurant
Luna Trattoria is a cozy Italian restaurant located in Mendocino, offering a romantic and casual atmosphere. It's known for serving traditional Italian dishes like Linguine alle Vongole, Pesto Genovese, Spaghetti al Pomodoro (marinara), and Spaghetti al Ragu (Bolognese) using long-held family recipes. The restaurant doesn't take online reservations but is highly recommended by locals as one of the best dining spots in Mendocino.
My wife and I recently stopped by this amazing little gem and I loved every second of it. From the fast seating, to even faster drink orders, this place had it all. This was some of the best service I have ever received in Cali, and also some of the best Italian food I have had on my trip. Honestly, I hope everyone has a chance to eat here. It was truly amazing and a perfect end to our vacation here :)
Cody M — Google review
This was some of the best Italian food I’ve had in a long time. I had the homemade ravioli, tried the gnocchi, and the croquette appetizer. Everything was delicious. We tasted a variety of the desserts which were all really good as well. The service was great, especially considering we had a large table with some difficult people. The restaurant itself is also very cute and cozy to be in. I highly recommend it. I will mention the path to get into the restaurant is kind of long and tricky to navigate for elderly people or people with disabilities.

Great spot, cute outdoor vibe with SALTY mediocre food. Excited to try as this spot highly recommended by SO MANY people (our bnb host, locals, neighboring spots). Came in without reservation, was third in line & started lining up 15 min before the restaurant opens. Able to get seated at the bar no problem. 5-star service by the servers but food fell short ..really short! Food would have been 4-star if not for being tooooo salty. Why so salty?? Everything was too salty, edible but way too salty. When asked if the dish is supposed to be this way, they said yes. We did not send anything back & just had our food ..first & last time. We were served with focaccia- not warm and rather dry. Tasted like it was made the day before and warmed up. I was told the Ragu was a pride & joy of the owner but unfortunately for me it lacked flavor, no depth and watery..almost taste just salty watery tomato sauce, with some minced beef & celery & carrot,. my dish tasted flat, too salty, watery and i dont know..i wouldnt call that pride & joy for sure! Ravioli was great but again..why so salty? Same with the side order of meatballs & croquette. Feedback for the host..would be great if the host can manage the line as people were cutting the lines & host didnt say anything, unpleasant and seem standoff-ish. Sadly can not recommend this place at all

Great collection of wines and an amazing North Italian menu! We dined in on a Friday night and I would highly recommend making a reservation. There was live music in the outdoor patio. Our server helped us pick out local Pinot Noirs from Anderson Valley and it did not disappoint! We loved that they had a wide varierty of choices for appetizers. For my entree, I had their Oven Baked Cod from their specials menu. It was fantastic!
Akshat D — Google review
Calamari Fritti: 5/5, great taste but portion size on the smaller side (no points deducted!) Porchini Ravioli: 5/5, very unique flavor! Spaghetti Ragu: 3/5, serviceable, decently executed but nothing to write home about. It was also a bit too sweet for my personal taste. Overall 4/5. It's a good restaurant and I would go back again.

I’m so happy I found this place! I didn’t have any expectations but this place blew my mind. The entrance feels like a secret entrance to a fairy tale garden as you walk in and the garden area for dining is so beautiful just like what you’d expect from the entrance. Food was out of this world as well. Especially the steak! I couldn’t believe how tender and flavorful the steak was. Gnocchi melted in the mouth as well. Been to many Michelin star restaurants in cities and this is one of the best restaurants I’ve been. Music was beautiful and really fit the vibe of the restaurant and service with Bonnie was very good as well. Cant wait to come back!
Carli C — Google review
My friends and I were enchanted by this place from the moment we saw the entrance. We were then transported to a fantastic European feeling garden. We did not have a reservation so we did have to return at 7:15 pm in hopes we would be first on the list for the 8 pm start for walk ins. We returned right at 7:15 because everything we heard about this place made us believe it was going to be more than worth our time. While we waited, we loved being able to look at the menu, read the various signs on the walls, and even watch a man hand make all the raviolis. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable, cracking jokes even between us and other tables. Each dish was unique and delicious in its own way. I would personally recommend the Pasta Sangiovese, even though it was not one of the handmade pasta dishes. It was hearty, flavorful, and not like any other on the menu. Whenever I'm back in Mendocino, I will be sure to make a reservation here, it is a can't miss spot!
Lauren F — Google review
We visited this restaurant during our trip to Mendocino and immediately loved the cozy, home-like atmosphere. We tried the Gnocchi with a half-and-half cream cheese and marinara sauce, the Farfalle della Nonna pasta, and finished with Tiramisu for dessert. Overall, the food was enjoyable—especially the Tiramisu, which was a standout! The cheese sauce on the gnocchi wasn’t quite to our taste, and the pasta had a bit more nutmeg than we prefer. Despite these small details, we had a pleasant dining experience and truly appreciated the warm, welcoming vibe.

Day 2

Northwest side of town
For day 2, we recommend exploring the northwest side side of town. Start the day off with Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park, then wind down and take it easy by the time you get to Point Mendocino Trail. All together, your day would be filled with about 7 hours of non-stop fun.

Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park

4.7

State park
Historical place
Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park is a 1909 lighthouse located on a rugged headland within a 296.5-acre park. The light station features a visible-for-15-miles Fresnel lens and has played a crucial role in preventing shipwrecks off the Mendocino coast. Visitors can explore the surrounding coastal scenery, hike trails offering dramatic views, and observe deer grazing in meadows.
Be warned, you can't park directly at the lighthouse unless you have a handicapped placard. It's a half mile walk one way to the lighthouse from the parking lot by the highway. If you don't want to walk along the dusty, dry, boring road, there is an alternative trail, the North Trail, which gets you away from any vehicle traffic, but does dump you out a ways north of the actual lighthouse. We took this trail on the way out, to see the magnificent sea cliffs. Sweeping views from the cliffs, as the whole area is pretty flat, it affords unobstructed views in all directions. Can get windy. The lighthouse itself is a cool visit, there is a strange aquarium inside filled with some of the sea life in the area, as well as a bunch of educational signs. We visited in the late afternoon, and left before sunset, but I suspect this would be a great place to watch it! A bit of a boring walk back that was tiring after being out for so long, but it was nice to be out there without a huge parking lot full of cars coming and going, kicking up dust. Highly recommended!

Great light house experience. The rocky coast is so picturesque. We had free admission but donation encouraged to fund upkeep. It is a long walk from parking to light station. Rest rooms at parking and at light keepers museum. Light keepers houses are B&B’s now. Looked like great honeymoon exclusion getaway.
Clifford C — Google review
Lovely lighthouse! It was super exciting to have a chance to see an active light up close. Visited on a foggy day and it is easy to imagine the hope those at sea felt when they saw the light. The grounds are beautiful for picnicking and hiking. All the staff members were wonderfully kind at the museum and gift shop too. Definitely dreaming of returning to stay in one of the cabins someday!

Point Cabrillo Lighthouse was super cool to check out. It’s an easy walk — about a half mile in and out if you take the paved road, a little longer if you go the trail route. Totally worth it either way. The views are awesome in every direction, and there’s plenty of space to wander around and explore nearby trails. Heads up though — bring some water. The little store by the lighthouse doesn’t sell drinks, but they do have a water fountain you can fill a bottle at. Overall, really peaceful spot and definitely worth the stop if you’re in the area.
Joshua G — Google review
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful views! The lighthouse and grounds are fun to see. It's a long walk from the parking lot though, almost a mile in.

Cute spot! Around a 1/2 mile walk from the visitor center to the lighthouse and museums. The volunteers at the visitor center and lighthouse were super friendly, and the park itself has some nice views of the coast. Tried to hike the North Trail but couldn't find it 🔦🏠🌾🌊

Fun place. An easy walk and great views. Cute gift shop. The lighthouse Tower is only open on certain days, so if you want to go up and see the light, check ahead of time. There are also the former keepers cottages on the property that are now used as air bnbs.

7.25.25 Re deer possibly stranded in the little cove to the right of the lighthouse (Yes I'm sure it was a deer 🦌, NOT a seal🦭 or sea lion) Hello, I was there on July 25 at between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. and I noticed a deer in the little cove to the right of the little building next to the lighthouse. (see the attachments) . I wasn't sure if the deer was 1) simply resting and did not want to be disturbed, or 2) possibly injured going gone down the steep bank,  and/or 3)  unable physically or psychologically to get back up the steep bank. I stood above it and took some pictures and made a few noises and it never stood up or moved around. It just stared at me -I don't know what kind of stare it was-  if it was a helpless plea -for -help stare, or just making sure I didn't approach it or something. I was there for about 15 minutes and then I left and I told a few of the people who are staying in the keeper house if they see it still there in the morning  it's probably trapped and maybe they could call an inappropriate person or agency to help the deer or else it's going to possibly die down there. Just thought I'd let you know in case you can also check on it . Thank You.

Nature & Parks
Russian Gulch State Park is a nature lover's paradise, offering a mix of ocean and forest landscapes. The park provides camping and hiking opportunities amidst tide pools, a stunning waterfall, and woodlands. Families can enjoy budget-friendly outdoor adventures with easy coastal treks to the Devils Punch Bowl, a collapsed sea cave where waves crash against the cliffs.
Very nice State Park. You can go to the beach side to see the historic bridge and the ocean, or do the hike to the waterfall, which is long, but worth it, and a chance to hike through old growth redwood forests. The hike is over 8 miles round trip so it's a pretty long one, but not terribly difficult, and it does make a loop so it's not an out-and-back trail. There are plenty of services here, water and restrooms, and a campground. Classic California State Park, one of the best in this part of the North Coast.
Allan R — Google review
Absolutely magical! I think this was the most beautiful trail I've ever hiked. 6.2 mile fern trail loop took us about 4 hours at a leisurely pace stopping for a picnic lunch at the waterfalls. The towering redwoods, lush plant life, and beautiful river made it so worth it. There were some muddy portions of the trail, so wear good boots, but otherwise easy to navigate. I can't wait to return!
B G — Google review
Quiet and easy-to-reach park with beautiful views of the Pacific. The trails here are all relatively short and easy, making it a perfect spot for a peaceful coastal walk or a quick nature break. We even spotted some seals along the shoreline
Vy Z — Google review
First camped here as a kid about 25 years ago, came back recently with my kids. Lovely little camp ground. Check out the beach early in the morning to explore the tide pools. Took the hike to the waterfall, I’m very out of shape but was able to do it. Would recommend. Close enough to easily get into town. There’s also a light house down the road that has a nice little museum.
Crystal S — Google review
A must-see place! The trail is great for walking, surrounded by beautiful nature that’s hard to put into words. If you’re reading this review, don’t wait , this is truly one of the best places to visit. Just a heads-up: there’s no cell phone coverage in the area, so make sure you bring the necessary hiking gear. The daily entrance fee is $10, and in return, you’ll get to experience pure wilderness, like a little piece of heaven.
Farzad D — Google review
We love this small state park right on the Pacific Ocean. It’s cold here, so bring a jacket. Not a huge campground, some camp sites are pretty exposed. You can take a kayak out in the protected cove, or explore the caves during low tide. There are forest trails and shore trails. Lots of poison oak, so know that it might look different on the shore than in the forest. Flush toilets, coin or token operated showers. Very close to Mendocino, which has good shopping, nice galleries and some great restaurants.

Hiking area
The Point Mendocino Trail offers a delightful experience for nature lovers and casual walkers alike. This accessible trail winds through a stunning ecological area, showcasing soil that dates back over 500,000 years. The U-shaped path connects different parts of the charming town of Mendocino, making it easy to explore with ample parking and multiple entrances. Along the way, you'll find benches perfect for soaking in the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and its rocky beaches.
One of the most beautiful trails I have been to, running along the Pacific Ocean and the cliffs and rocky beaches. The scenery is breathtaking all along and there are in roads from the main trail that take you closer to the sea. There are numerous coves, tidal pools, sandy stretches and wherever one points a camera the photos are calendar perfect !

We went on a little walk here yesterday and it was so beautiful. Loved seeing the water and a few holes in a rock with water flowing through it. I found a few rock things that could have been totem poles at some point. We got to walk down to this beach that had tons of wood around. Different shapes and all. It was pretty cool. I would definitely walk this trail again.

Mendocino is a sparkling little coastal town that is topped off by the amazing views from the trail on the coastal edge of town. Take your time exploring every nook and cranny. The Mendocino Hotel Restaurant is a luxurious dining destination with classic Victorian-era decor, soft lighting, and an inviting atmosphere.
I loved it for so many reasons!! I love the outside seeming like an old Victorian style saloon. It's breathtaking upon walking in. It's in the era of an old western/20s Flapper era combined. So much class. I love how when one wanders the room it changes before your eyes from facing the window in trees and then transforming into their "garden" and then up in the back its set to be eating in an old country home with Oak and cute walls. The service was great. They smiled. They were at the perfect level of being attentive and making sure we were well taken care of, but still able to eat in peace and take the meal and the room and each other in. The food was some of the best I've had in the area. Thank you for everything. I will be back, and talk about this for years to come.

The Mendocino Hotel provides an affordable night stay on the California Coast. The 140+year hotel is quaint and offers a real historical feel while providing current day luxuries. With options that involve a shared restroom to private suites the hotel has something for all types of travelers. The on site restaurant and location within the village of Mendocino and proximity to Headlands State Park give the Mendocino Hotel great value.

Very fun classic fancy atmosphere. Feels vintage and vibrant. The food was okay--probably would have been better if it came out hot but it had already cooled a bit before it was delivered to us, which isn't so great for a seafood dish. I think the plate was hotter than the fish. The prices were a bit much for what you get compared to other restaurants in Mendocino. The server was great and the atmosphere fun but lacking in food quality and price.

Cafe Beaujolais is a long-standing establishment housed in a Victorian farmhouse, offering French-inspired cuisine and local wines. Originally known for its beloved breakfasts, the restaurant is now managed by Peter and Melissa Lopez, along with their chef/son Julian. They are dedicated to maintaining the classic fine dining menu while introducing new flavors like pork tenderloin marsala with soubise risotto, maitake mushrooms, onion brulee, and asparagus.
We were driving by and unfortunately had no chance to make the reservation, but the option to grab takeout and dine on the magical backyard patio was even more desirable. Thank you for such a welcoming service and for that incredibly delicious food! Honestly, it was my first time eating foie gras out of a plastic container, but sucraface paid off anyway and I got no less joy for sure!

Our hostess was great! Our waitress was great! I had the pork loins! Superb! My wife had the bolognese dish! She loved it. Everything was well prepared. We sat in the atrium, which for us, was better than the table clothed dining area.

The food presentation, service, and atmosphere were 5 star. But the food itself wasn't that great. My steak lacked a propper crust, like it was prepared via sous vide but then very under seared. The scallop sauce had a slightly off flavor, like refrigerator taint. The muscles were fantastic. The drinks were solid should you want a peaceful adult place to have a few cocktails. We had the mussels, steak, scallops, some cucumber aperitifs, a mojito and a beer.

Definitely dine here! The chef was amazing, the staff and service were excellent. The food was incredible. We came on NYE so we had the tasting menu which was incredible and the perfect amount of food, but I was super tempted by the a la carte menu as well. The A5 wagyu was maybe the best steak I have ever had, I could practically cut it with my fork it was so tender.

Harvest Market at Mendosa's is a one-stop shop for all your picnic, RV, and vacation rental needs. It offers top-quality meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, beer, wine, and spirits. The cheese case boasts an abundance of local and imported cheeses. Additionally, the market features fresh produce straight from local farms and offers hot soups to go along with homemade sandwiches.
I love this market. They have fresh baked Artisan breads, food by the bulk, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a butcher - love! There were multiple people available to help, so no one had to wait. There are high quality pre-made sandwiches, salads, sides as well as “take-to-go” healthy dinners. There was limited parking, but I had no trouble finding a spot. Great selection of food and note, there were options available with limited, high quality ingredients. I was very impressed by this little market and it was well worth the drive. If you have time there are shops and restaurants here as well as hiking trails near the ocean. We spent the day here and shopped for food before our ride back.

So many gluten free options! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Not always an easy find when traveling. Vegan options too. Also ICE, available in 1lb or 9lb bags. I’m not sure that math makes sense, but they have ice options, and a great wine selection too. I actually found my favorite gluten free snacks cheaper here than at Whole Foods, winning. It’s the little things. Especially in 2020. Oh P.S. try the sundried tomato basil goat cheese... with Mary’s peppercorn crackers! P.P.S. Can’t go wrong with some figgies and jammies!!

Day 3

Off the beaten path
For day 3, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Jug Handle State Natural Reserve. Not quite as popular as Mendocino Headlands State Park, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 7 hours.

Jug Handle State Natural Reserve is a must-visit for adventurers and nature enthusiasts. The 2.5-mile trail showcases terraces formed by glacier, sea, and tectonic activities, offering inspiring scenic views of the coastal land. The Ecological Staircase Walk spans 5 miles and takes hikers through three wave-cut terraces, providing a glimpse into how geology, soils, and plants change over time.
Is a beautiful place to visit. Was there on a Thursday morning and we were only people there. Definitely will visit again. Brief walk down to beach.

We really enjoyed our time there as a family. It was early so we had the whole place to ourselves. Connecting with nature was grounding. Nice 4 mile trail hike.
Susana V — Google review
We hiked the headlands on the trail from the parking spot at Ocean Drive near Hwy 1. AllTrails shows a loop hike but the last part of the loop (going counterclockwise from '7:00' to '3:00') turned into impenetrable thicket and we backtracked back to the bluff trail. That part was a nice out-and - back. Either in that hike or the headlands field trails at the end of Jefferson Wy we picked up a couple of ticks 😖 one loose on clothing, the other discovered the next morning burrowed into my side at the belt line - needed a visit to urgent care clinic to get that one completely out. I have since added a tick removal tool kit to my travel first aid kit!

Love the hiking area. Great steps as well. Picturesque views
Janet M — Google review
Amazing progression of environments, from riparian to redwoods to a pygmy forest. More people should discover this.
Charles B — Google review
We visit the beach and walk the headlands every year. The stairs to the beach are steep but recently improved a lot. The beach is one of the most beautiful in the world in the sun. It is often windy. The best view of the coast and the beach is from the headlands. June 2023 wildflowers are amazing. No ticks this week. There is a porta-potty and a picnic table at the parking lot. Dogs are allowed on the beach and headlands.
Doreen O — Google review
Yet another great place to hike song the Mendocino coast. The beach is one of the best in the area and the trail leading inland is cool too. The pygmy forest is an interesting place to checkout. I’d say the hiking is on the easier side.

Definitely one of my favorite locations on Mother Earth. Beautiful views, loved our campsite (we've stayed twice in the same spot), the trails are excellent, and the beach is awesome. Gorgeous flora, fauna, and fungi.

Nicholson House at Beaujolais Mendocino is a charming historic inn that was originally built in 1905. Located in the town of Mendocino, this stately Victorian former family home has been transformed into an art deco-inspired hotel with elegant crystal chandeliers. The rooms are intimate and offer luxurious amenities such as huge soaking tubs, steam showers, fireplaces, and feather beds.
Such a beautiful place to stay in a beautiful part of California. We recently spent a weekend at the Nicholson House and our stay was lovely from start to finish. The suite was gorgeous in terms of design and decor, and also really comfortable. The heated floor in the bathroom was a nice surprise! We had delicious breakfasts at The Waiting Room and an incredible dinner at Cafe Beaujolais right next door. Highly recommend a stay at the Nicholson House!

I was impressed with my room. It was small but incredibly luxurious and beautifully decorated in a classic style. The location was also excellent. Just behind the house, there was a beautiful garden with an ocean view. The host went the extra mile by providing small gifts as surprises, including a body butter and a can of hummingbird seeds. I really loved those thoughtful touches!
Janet K — Google review
We just finished a 2night stay at The Nicholson House. Every year we take a couple of days away from our work to focus on our business. We always aim to stay at places that are inspiring and will help us get in our creative flow. We also look for places that have good space for us to work while also having easily accessible places to eat, walk, and have some leisure time. Nicholson House checked all those boxes. We stayed in one of their lovely suites - the West Suite. It gave us the extra room we needed to work and also felt very cozy and relaxing. Every detail in the rooms is so well curated and thought out - beautiful and inspiring- check! From the complimentary bourbon and madelines to the heated floors, and all the antique furniture, and record player - no detail has been missed. It is also perfectly located in walking distance to the Mendocino Headlands (a must when you are in town), and Big River Beach. ..and you can't get any closer to the best restaurant in town - Cafe Beaujolais. This is a Beaujolais property and just like the rest of their businesses- it is top notch, high quality and service. While we never saw any of the staff on property, there was no shortage of communication. It was effortless and the response time on any questions was immediate. While we were working most of the time, it is definitely a wonderful place to come and NOT work. So much to do and see in the area and never get in your car. I highly recommend The Nicholson House and hope to be back again.

We’ve been coming to Mendocino for 16 years, and Nicholson House is hands down the nicest hotel we’ve stayed in. We loved the quality of the rooms and the attention to detail; everything was done to an exceptionally high standard. We also enjoyed having coffee in the mornings next door at The Waiting Room. The location was superb—you can park your car and easily walk anywhere in the town of Mendocino.

🤩 We LOVED our stay in this quaint House filled with charm and a beautiful garden. It was clean and quiet and the perfect location from which walk around town. Highly recommend!
Dawn B — Google review
My family and I had a perfect stay in the garden suites! The garden suite made it so easy to let our dog out and had a beautiful view. The rooms and amenities are elegant, clean, thoughtfully decorated and stocked. The location is convenient and quiet, right between two great restaurants and a short walk from the town. The bed and bed sheets are unbelievably comfortable. The free coffee and pastry from a coffee shop a few doors down was also delicious! Thanks for allowing us to have a great time together in Mendocino!

I don't have enough good things to say about Nicholson House! We booked a last minute trip to Mendocino with our two dogs for the long weekend. Nicholson House is beautiful, the grounds are breathtaking and so thoughtfully designed. The room itself was a dream - I am so picky about hotel rooms and have to say this might be the nicest room I have ever stayed in. The room design was stunning, with amazing vintage pieces, stunning decor, and the most comfortable sheets I have ever slept on. We stayed in room #9, and we also appreciated that while there were other guests on the property, it felt very private and secluded, and was very peaceful and quiet. I really have to give a shout out to the team that runs the inn for how thoughtful the additions to the room were - they knew we had two dogs staying with us so they provided us with a large blanket and multiple towels and bowls to use for our dogs. They also provided extremely comfortable robes and slippers for the room, it felt like I was staying at a spa! To welcome you, they had a gorgeous tea and coffee station, chilled water, and some bourbon which was incredibly tasty. All of this, plus an incredibly heated floor bathroom with the hottest steam shower - it felt so good after rainy walks on the coast. Nicholson House also provides a voucher for a free morning beverage and pastry at The Waiting Room, which is right next door. Don't let the fact that it is free fool you - the coffee was fantastic, and the pastries were out of this world. I think the lemon cheddar scone took me to another planet. I will definitely be back to stay here, I can't recommend it enough. It was such a great visit, and it was one of the rare places where you and your pets will truly feel welcomed.
Sidra S — Google review
Our recent stay at the Nicholson House was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in the heart of downtown, the hotel’s location was perfect—just steps away from all the local restaurants, shops, and beach. What set them apart was their impeccable attention to detail and hospitality. The freshly ground coffee was a thoughtful touch that enhanced our mornings. Additionally, the hotel blended modern amenities with a historic charm. The sleek, contemporary design of the room provided every comfort we could ask for, while maintaining the architectural details of the building’s rich history. The Nicholson House exceeded our expectations in every way. Its prime downtown location, coupled with the exceptional attention to detail and the perfect mix of modern and historic elements, made our stay unforgettable. We highly recommend Nicholson House to anyone looking for a charming and convenient place to stay in the heart of the town.

Historic Sites
Located in the heart of Mendocino City, the Kelley House Museum offers visitors breathtaking ocean views, lush gardens, and a serene pond. Housed in a Victorian-style home dating back to 1854, it showcases exhibits on the region's early days. Originally built for the affluent Kelley family, this museum now preserves local history and cultural heritage. The well-furnished interior features period pieces from the late 1800s, providing insight into the area's past.
Learn all about the water towers and why Mendocino has so many! The historians here are very knowledgeable and the tour of the water towers in town is very insightful! I suggest going to the museum before lunch so you can get a lay of the town and choose where you want to eat.

Our docent was great! I on the other hand am not since I can’t remember her name! She’s from the east coast but was super knowledgeable on the home and the area! She’s lived here for years now and gave a great tour! There is even access to the second floor! This is a piece of history you don’t want to miss!

Important historical site in the coastal north of California. The staff and curators here are preserving hidden histories of the logging industry, Indigenous communities, contributions of women, early African American settlers, the remarkable natural history, and agricultural heritage. "Out of This World" is a store that offers exceptional retail service, with staff members like Eva, John, David, and Marilyn who are highly accommodating. The store boasts an impressive selection of binocular brands including Swarovski, Zeiss, and Leica. Customers praise the knowledgeable staff with decades of experience who guide them to the best binoculars, games, toys, and books available.
Great STEM toy store in the heart of Mendocino. Located in what was once was the former bank. The old bank vault door is still in place, and the owners have the combination. So be careful, or you might end up as part exhibits 😉 You can find some great toys, board games, and puzzles for all ages here that are great for the whole family. They have some toys, of course, but all fit the STEM areas. For the bird and whale watchers, they have a good selection of binoculars, so you can see the wildlife up close.
Adam C — Google review
If I could give a zero I would give a zero. We almost called the police. The employee grabbed our child by the arm and accused him of stealing. He had nothing in his hands and we had just finished buying toys from her. Worst toy store experience ever. Will never go back and the store is lucky we didn’t press charges.
J M — Google review
This store epitomizes the value of supporting local businesses. Knowledgeable staff with decades of experience will guide you to the best binoculars, games, toys, and books available. These aren't shills paid to pad reviews or turn inventory; they stock only quality merchandise at fair prices. You will find stuff here other stores don't know about. Instead of following Amazon bread crumbs to what's popular, here you will find what's interesting. If that doesn't suit you, you can always ask about the building's history, and ask to see a turn-of-the-century bank vault one would read about in an O'Henry short story.

Very cool store for kids and adults. Lots of thoughtful toys to stimulate a child’s brain. Also a lot of fun stuff from when I was a kid in the 1980’s. They also seemed to have a large selection of binoculars if that is your thing. Definitely pop in.
Gabe C — Google review
Great store and well worth to visit. They have some pretty cool things for kids and great set of binoculars and telescopes. Owner is very nice and educated us on binoculars.
N N — Google review
The store lives up to its name. I had a terrific "out of this world" experience shopping for a scope that I can use for my birding adventures for years to come. They have a wonderful selection of scopes here. Although I had a good idea of the brands I was interested in and my budget, I knew I had a lot to learn about them. I was keen to try them out before making the investment, and this isn't easy to do in the Bay area where I live. Luckily, Dave was there to help and he patiently explained everything to me. Handling the scopes gave me a much better idea of the trade-offs I was willing to make between portability, magnification, and optical clarity. What I found most helpful was peering through the scopes with Dave. He pointed out subtle differences in color accuracy and chromatic aberrations which helped me make up my mind. I ended up buying a Swarovski which wasn't the most expensive scope I looked at but was simply the best fit given how I plan to use the scope. A big thank you to Dave for spending almost two hours sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with me!
Raja B — Google review
Been shopping at this store for almost a decade and just love it! I needed a new pair of binoculars and was guided through the process of selecting the right pair, and even learned some new tips on using them. Really a great store, especially for naturalists. They also have a great array of educational toys and science books for the kid, and kid at heart, in your life.
Sarah S — Google review
Thrilled, thrilled with this store! Went in for new binoculars, walked out with the *perfect* pair of affordable, compact, waterproof Nikons with a lifetime warranty (happy dance!). And a magnifying loupe. And a compass. And a thermometer zipper pull. Out of This World = THE place for nerds! 🤓

The Brickery

4.7
(243)
Pizza restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque town of Mendocino, The Brickery is a must-visit for pizza lovers seeking an unforgettable culinary experience. This charming eatery features a menu filled with mouthwatering options like the classic Margherita and unique Pepperoni Artichoke pizzas, all crafted with fresh, local ingredients atop a delightful thin crust. Since its transformation into a wood-fired pizza haven in 2017, The Brickery has quickly become a beloved spot among locals and visitors alike.
Delicious pizza, unusual topping combinations. Beautiful garden to sit and enjoy your food. Moderately high priced. But worth it. Beer and wine available. Recommended!
Richard M — Google review
Beautiful setting – but deeply disappointing pizza We visited The Brickery in Mendocino and shared a Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella. Sadly, it was one of the worst pizzas we’ve ever had. The crust and dough were fine – perhaps the best part – but the topping was a major letdown. The mozzarella was barely visible, and the tomato sauce tasted more like plain canned tomatoes than a real sauce. For $22, this was simply unacceptable. What saves the experience a bit is the lovely setting – the garden is lush and the overall atmosphere cozy. It’s like a hidden gem. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I wouldn’t recommend it for the food, but perhaps worth a stop for a cup of coffee or a beer on tap in the beautiful outdoor space.
Susanne S — Google review
I loved the pizza here. Very tasty and affordable. I wouldn’t expect such a good pizzeria in this secluded location. It’s even better than most places I had in the Bay Area.
Justin Z — Google review
Such a cool, refreshing outdoor garden dining space. And the pizza is SO so good- nice thin, crunchy crust. The ingredients tasted super fresh. Loved the fresh evoo and basil on the margherita di buffala, chefs kiss. Also like that they offered some soups and salads as well as a large selection of beverages.
J B — Google review
Cute spot in Mendocino. The pizza was decent, but what really made it worth it was everything else: the garden is bursting with flowers, the wine list is surprisingly good, and Nala was clearly convinced she was at her own outdoor pizza party. It’s the kind of spot where you don’t mind waiting a little because the vibe feels like Mendocino magic.
Laura K — Google review
Unique pizza combinations and seasonal specials in a cute spot in Mendocino. Lot of outdoor seating in their garden with beautiful succulents. Wouldn’t recommend purchasing soup since it comes in a to-go plastic container. A must visit place with reasonable prices and generous portion sizes. We ordered 2 pizzas for 2 people and ended up eating it for dinner too, so order judicially.

The tranquil garden setting enhances the experience as you savor treats like their renowned strawberry Danish or savory tamales. With its inviting atmosphere and delicious menu options, including mouthwatering quesadillas and flavorful salsa, Garden Bakery is more than just a bakery—it's a culinary haven worth exploring.
We had tea, coffee and pastry; it was very good. Thanks for the delicious pastry🌻👏👏
Mahnaz H — Google review
Best baked goods around - especially the filled pastries with blackberry or blueberry with cream cheese. Perfectly soft on the inside and crispy, flaky outside! The Mexican food not so much as our “taco” was over cooked, dried out chicken with onion on a disintegrating corn tortilla - no salsa offered. So will definitely rerun for the baked goods but not the tacos.
Richard P — Google review
My husband and I came to this place for lunch and we were disappointed. I ordered a taco and it was ok. He ordered a Chile relleno Burrito. The burrito was rapped in plastic wrap, which already wasn’t good for us. The lady who attended asked if we wanted cold or hot, my husband said hot, so she put it in the microwave 😐 She gave us the burrito without any salsa until we asked, and from the top (see photo) you could tell it was not fresh, also very cold inside. He could not even finished.
Stephani H — Google review
We go to the Garden Bakery pretty much every time we’re in town. We’ve tried almost everything they make. Love the pastries. The burritos and egg bites are also delicious. Can’t really go wrong with anything you choose. Service is good and everyone is friendly. Very comfy feeling inside and outside. We highly recommend you give it a try.

Sweet small bakery. They have Danish pastries, croissant and bagels. They also serve burrito, tacos (non vegetarian only). Outdoor seating is available. CASH ONLY!
Vikram S — Google review
Blackberry Danish was excellent! Turkey empanada was good, but warmed up in microwave which made the pastry texture less appetizing. Breakfast burrito was also good.
Baker S — Google review
This is our favorite bakery in Mendocino County - we always stop by when we are on the coast! The danishes and cookies are on point, but with their reasonable prices we often end up walking away with those plus whatever we haven’t tried before! As a bonus their breakfast burritos with mozzarella are consistently good - and the salsa is so fresh!

Flow | Restaurant & Lounge is a lively waterfront establishment that offers a diverse menu of global cuisine and creative cocktails. The restaurant boasts deck seating with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, making it an ideal spot for a romantic meal or special occasion. While not exclusively plant-based, Flow features gourmet plant-based breakfast options alongside its regular offerings.
I was initially deterred by the lower reviews but I was pleasantly surprised that the service, atmosphere, and food were all wonderful. I shared an order of fish a chips and the radish salad. The fish and chips meal was delicious along with the dill slaw, the salad lacked flavor but was very delicious. The breakfast menu was available late and my mother in law loved her omelette and potatoes. All in all, it was delicious and the ocean side view made it even more memorable. A very special place!

Flow Restaurant in Mendocino offers a truly delightful dining experience, combining excellent service and a warm, inviting ambiance with breathtaking ocean views. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with a sense of refined comfort. The menu boasts a thoughtful selection of dishes, catering to various dietary preferences with a few well-executed vegan and vegetarian options. Notably, the fries are a must-try – exceptionally crispy and simply "out of this world." The pineapple fried rice is a standout, showcasing an exquisite balance of flavors and textures. The eggplant melt is another fantastic choice, perfectly cooked and bursting with taste. Vegetarian diners will appreciate the flexibility of the tacos, which can be easily adapted to accommodate their needs. And for those with a sweet tooth, the crème brûlée hibiscus is the perfect ending to a memorable meal, a truly awesome and unique dessert. Flow Restaurant manages to deliver on all fronts: delicious food, impeccable service, a lovely atmosphere, and a stunning view. It’s a definite must-visit when in Mendocino.

One of the most spectacular restaurants I have ever visited in my life. What made it truly unforgettable was not only the food, which was absolutely delicious and full of flavor, but also the setting. The town where it is located is peaceful and charming, and the view from the restaurant’s windows is simply breathtaking. Watching the landscape, the ocean, and the sunset while enjoying such a flavorful meal created the perfect atmosphere. We were on a trip looking for peace, and in Mendocino we found everything we were searching for. This restaurant became a highlight of our journey; the food, the tranquility, and the experience all came together beautifully. We can’t wait to come back and relive it again. Highly recommended! Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a great meal with a glass of wine while watching the sunset over the sea in this magical place.

My wife and I had fish and chips with a nice view of ocean in the patio, 4 pcs fish was delicious, with tar tar like souce, chips or fries needs to be a little be more cruncher but was acceptable, its side salad was good. I didn't like the home made cola taste was kinda cloves and cinnamon taste, i missed coke! , didn't test other drinks, they didnt refill my cola, overall was a good restaurant. I used the rest room and it was clean. Staff was good, however nice ocean view is nice. I recommend.

Stanford Inn's Ravens Restaurant is a renowned vegan eatery located at the Stanford Inn by the Sea, known for its eco-friendly approach and commitment to using locally sourced ingredients, including produce from its own organic farm. The restaurant offers a 100% vegan menu with no animal products, making it a top choice for vegans in Mendocino. Even non-vegan diners have praised the restaurant for its exceptional cuisine.
The restaurant had a very nice ambiance. Even though we did not have reservations, we got a table pretty quick. We were served a complimentary small plate (do not remember the name, sliced apple with a creamy sauce)- yum and refreshing. This is a vegan restaurant and we loved everything here. The service is top notch and the food here is very homely. We ordered a lemonade, which was very refreshing. We also had the rustic bread and kalua mushrooms with coconut rice. Portion size of the mushroom bowl was huge. Would love to come back here.

We absolutely loved dining at the Ravens Restaurant! The food was exceptional. We went multiple times during our trip Mendocino to try their breakfast and dinner options. Amazing service and views as well of the Mendocino coastline. We will definitely be coming back.

Raven's was an absolutely love experience! It can be tough to find completely vegan restuarants and this place did NOT disappoint! My partner and I went for dinner and had the ravioli and the thai curry - both very delicious! Veronica made us the most delicious mocktails and was just fantastic. The atmosphere and ambience was very nice too. Such a special evening. We will definitely be back!!

I tried this restaurant because I stayed at the Stanford Inn hotel and I really enjoyed everything about it. First you need to understand that this is a fully plant-based restaurant and if you are looking for vegan processed food or food with a lot of fake flavors this won't be your place. However, if you are looking for healthy food, with good quality ingredients and you want to taste the original flavors with no additives of each dish then you are in the correct place! You must make reservations for breakfast and dinner (they are closed for lunch, however, they have a menu for a lunch to go) and I suggest that you make your reservations with a lot of advance because they don't take in a lot of customers at the same time and reading previous comments I can tell that for some people that is inconvenient, however, it makes a big difference on the experience because the server service is really good (you have the full attention of your server) and the food is freshly prepared by the time you order it. The restaurant has a beautiful interior and amazing views. The customer service is amazing. The staff were all attentive when it came to answering our questions and made really good suggestions. The menu has sections for larger dishes and smaller portions. For breakfast they have daily fresh juice, delicious coffee and teas and the menu has a lot of options to choose from. For dinner if you are a soup person I recommend that you always order a cup of soup, every day they have a different soup and the flavors are amazing. If you like desserts this is also a must, I loved all their desserts and my favorite one was the carrot cake, I like them because they were not too sweet and you can taste different combinations and flavors . They also have a happy hour. The bartender is really knowledgeable, she made recommendations to pair our food with wine and the combinations were tasteful, I didn't have the chance to taste their cocktails but they have a lot of variety . I love the fact that our dogs were welcome to the restaurant, they have a whole section for families with dogs and while we were there all dogs were calm and everybody was able to enjoy their meals in a great environment and the bartender and server were spoiling our dogs with delicious treats. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a healthy, nice experience meal. And if you have dogs...this place is a must. I can't wait for us to come back again to The Ravens.

My husband loves the food, for me its bland and doesnt taste fresh. Im hoping for menu change and freshly squeezed juices one day. Views are wonderful. Atmosphere is rather uptight, people eat in quiet. No baby changing station.

Lovely! The staff was so friendly and the food was very good! Definitely recommend - especially for those who follow a plant based diet… but definitely for everyone!

Ravens' restaurant is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend dining here- whether you are local or staying at the Stanford Inn. I stayed with my mom and we ate here every breakfast and dinner for our stay! From the gorgeous views, polite staff and delicious vegan cuisine- we had the best time! Breakfast and dinner were both special- check out my photos! It's very unique to find a restaurant that doesn't depend in mock meats, oil and over salted food- everything on the menu is fresh, creative, and allows the flavors for fresh herbs to come to life with local ingredients Thank you for adding to our stay the best food out there!

This is the restaurant that is inside the hotel on a hill side near the ocean in Mendocino. The hotel is gorgeous during the day. At night during this time it's filled with Christmas charm and giant fireplaces in the lobby. The lobby also has an amazing array of books. Go past the lobby and there lies the restaurant. Tables are spilled out of the dining room. I wanted to love this place because I was ranted and raved too about it. Service wqs okay, our dishes came out at different times and people had to wait to eat. One dish was forgotten, but they did give us extra chips for my son. The food was just okay. Need more razzle dazzle. Don't forget the hefty price tag. All vegan restaurant. Unsure if I'd go back.

Day 4

Proximity is everything
For day 4, we bundled attractions like Mendocino Grove and Big River and other places within a close range, so that the time it takes to travel between all of them is less than one hour. Combined with the average time people spend there, your day should take about 7 hours.

Campground
Mendocino Grove is a picturesque campground nestled in the redwoods, offering glamping experiences with rental tents equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. The site has reopened at 67% capacity to ensure ample distancing between guests, and all shared spaces are outdoors. The campground boasts exceptionally clean showers and bathrooms that are disinfected every 20 minutes during peak hours. Digital check-in for luxury canvas tents and a digital concierge service have been implemented to minimize staff interaction.
If I could give this place more than 5 stars i would. Tents, beds and everything inside the tent was clean and smelled good. They have warming pad on the mattress so you sleep comfortably, which made a huge difference! The place had the common area that felt more like a club house than a glamping site, and the location is absolutely spectacular! Just minutes from Russian Gulch, Mendocino Headlands, Big river and so many other beautiful gems. Kids have the best time while staying safe, dogs are welcome, i mean… say less. We will definitely be coming back.

First time visiting, stayed in a family tent. Everything was really wonderful, tent, facilities, service, distance into town.. and 10/10 on the outdoor cedar showers! Had a great time over all, only thing.. few more options for breakfast. Especially for the kiddos, everything else was really great! Will definitely have to visit again!

Mendocino Grove is the kind of place that makes you feel both refreshed and well cared for. From the moment we arrived, the staff stood out, not only friendly and welcoming, but genuinely attentive. Danielle went above and beyond to help us with a special accommodation request, and did so with such grace and ease that it really set the tone for the rest of our stay. The grounds themselves are beautifully maintained, immaculately clean, with thoughtful touches everywhere you look. The communal fireplaces were a highlight, especially the one in the morning where guests gather over complimentary oatmeal, banana bread, and coffee. It creates this warm, communal vibe that makes the experience feel so much more than just a stay in nature. And don’t skip the outdoor showers. They are fantastic, peaceful, invigorating, and one of those small luxuries that ends up being a favorite memory. This was my third time here and we can't wait to return!

A magical place! Just off Highway 1, a million miles away from… Events here are AMAZING! Movie nights, live music. Fall Festival is not to be missed! “Tent” is not the word I would use to describe the accommodations. “Beautiful, spacious, Canvas Home” seems right! Comfy heated beds, porches for “porching” (Google it,) fire pits and Adirondack chairs, bocce ball, volleyball, sauna, walking distance to Catch a Canoe… GO HERE!
Robert L — Google review
OUTSTANDING From check in to check out…This place not only was the staff family friendly, but the grounds are well thought out. We had a blast grilling our own steaks, and relaxing by the fire at our own fire pit. But the icing on the cake were the mattress warmers and down blankets..Nice touch!

Everything was amazing! We drove 9 hours to stay for 5 days here at mendocino grove. The coffee every morning was perfect. The showers and bathrooms took things to the next level. The staff were all amazing and accommodating. Definitely will be back!

5 we had a wonderful time. Everyone was so nice. We enjoyed the heated blankets on our bed, the great food at the commons,, the relaxing sauna, the adorable raccoons 🦝, the overhead heaters in the commons, the beautiful flowers and all the lovely and friendly guests and their children. Thank you for a most enjoyable weekend.

My favorite glamping spot! The staff are kind and helpful and ensure all your questions are answered as you settled in. Amenities are cleaned daily (showers, restrooms, common area, etc.). My favorite touch is the heated blanket that keeps you cozy no matter the temperature outside. The office has a library you can check out books and games for the duration of your stay. Happy camping!

Discover the beauty of Big River, located in Mendocino Headlands State Park. Paddle along the estuary and admire the stunning redwoods and picturesque beaches. You can start your adventure at South Big River Road off Highway 1, where Catch-a-Canoe offers guided tours or kayak and canoe rentals for independent exploration. Keep an eye out for otters and harbor seals depending on the season.

The Ford House Visitor Center & Museum, located on Main Street, is a well-preserved Victorian-style home built in 1854 by Jerome B. Ford, a key figure in Mendocino's history. The museum showcases period furnishings and a collection of photographs and artifacts that depict the early settlers' story. Additionally, visitors can explore models of coastal vessels and an intricate representation of Mendocino in 1890.
This is probably one of the best visitor center I’ve been in. There is a scale model diarama of entire town. It was wonderful! A member of garden club prepares a display of live cuttings of trees and flowers of region. The host was wonderful to talk with and share information. Great walking path on property along cliffs with amazing views.

A small but very cute museum that shows the history of the first family who settled in Mendocino and started the lumber business. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He shared the stories of the Ford family and the beginning of the town when it all started. The grounds and the view were absolutely beautiful.

Mendocino Market is a delightful spot for anyone craving delicious sandwiches, perfect for those on the go. With an impressive selection of both hot and cold options, you can find something to satisfy any palate. The Italian combo and veggie pesto are standout choices that create a fantastic flavor pairing. While primarily focused on takeout orders placed from the porch, there are a few tables available if you prefer to enjoy your meal on-site.
The pesto veggie sandwich on whole grain bread was super delicious, and the garden salad with tuna salad scoop was filling and fresh. The atmosphere is meh, but the quality, portion and prices of food definitely makes up for it. We will definitely be back.

I came here for the Rockfish Sandwich and they were out of it which was very disappointing. My husband and I ended up sharing: - Smoked Salmon Sandwich on Sliced Sour - Grilled Real Crab & Cheddar on a Soft Roll Both were delicious, but the crab was my favorite. I would happily come back to try more sandwiches!
Jacqueline T — Google review
Solid place to grab a quick lunch- good amount of sandwich options; like that they offered a salad and soup too. Order was ready super fast, and the team working was accommodating of my food allergy which is always appreciated. I’d recommend grabbing to-go and eating outside along the coast.

Met the owner who was simply wonderful. Made an excellent recommendation for lunch and had the rockfish with pesto. It was delicious and very flavorful. Definitely want to return and try more of the food.

This review is about sustainability only! I’m wondering if you would consider not selling plastic bottled water. And instead opt for at the very least, aluminum canned water. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. And over 95% of the plastic that we try to recycle does not actually get recycled. But rather ends up in landfills, incinerators, and in our waters. For this glorious seaside town, it would mean a lot to me as a customer to see more businesses supporting the local and broader ecosystems. I had a lovely sandwich from here, and so appreciate the kind service as well. Thank you for considering my feedback! And for the delicious bites.

Spent the weekend at the Little River Inn, asked Ann at the front desk for a good place to grab soup and sandwiches nearby. She suggested the Market place in Mendocino. We split a hot crab and cheddar with bowls of clam chowder (the thick kind). Boy did that hit the spot. Delicious!!!

Unfortunately had a disappointing experience here. It took about 30 minutes to get a few sandwiches, then the order was wrong, the bread was low quality. Great location.

Went it for quick premade sandwich, tuna salad. Probably the worst sandwich I ever had, dry cracking bread and flavorless tuna. Add coastal tourist prices and you get the picture

Eclectic restaurant
Nestled in Mendocino, Mendocino Cafe is a charming eatery offering deck seating with picturesque water views. The menu is a delightful fusion of Thai-inspired cuisine, fresh seafood dishes, American staples, California favorites, Asian-influenced bowls and salads, Mexican specialties, and gluten-free options.
Great food (loved the crab sandwich and the chocolate tart). Beautiful views (especially if you sit on the upper deck. No wait: we were seated immediately even though the restaurant was busy. Drinks, food and dessert came out quick as well.

Clam chowder is excellent. It was rather slow when I stopped in and the service was very attentive and friendly. The patio is a nice place to sit and enjoy your meal. Coffee was good and Huevos rancheros was tasty as well, very satisfying meal.

Came here without reservations last night. Started off with Calamari which was sautéed versus fried. Wife had the one of the dinner specials, Blackened Patrale sole and I had the Florentine Pasta with shrimps. Ended off our dinner with Strawberry Rhubarb and Key Lime pies. Everything was great! Owner was very friendly. Found out he opened restaurant in 1988 after he graduated high school. Highly recommend!!!

Looking for lunch or dinner in Mendocino? You're probably better off going to Fort Bragg. But if you're not in the mood for the 10 mile trek and you want something nice and unique, the Mendocino Café is probably your best bet. The only way I can describe the menu is that it's like what you'd eat if a California local and a Thai person got married and put together a big family style feast drawing from all their childhood favorites with just the normal groceries available at the local grocery store. It might not look classic Thai or American dishes you'd order at a boutiquey restaurant in the city, but everyone finds something they really like and praises the chef. Dishes have names like "Thai burrito" and "healing bowl." Anyway, we liked it enough that after comparison-shopping the menus at all the other little cafés and bars nearby we came back a second day in a row. Good beer on tap and the coffee is decent, too. And the dining room and outdoor seating are cool retro vibes. My only real complaint about the food is that there's a bit too much vinegar in some of the homemade sauces and it would be nice if everything was $5 cheaper... but then you aren't really getting value for your money anywhere in this touristy small town.
Rob S — Google review
Absolutely superb dinner in every way. I had a pork chop, while others at my table enjoyed swordfish, ahi tuna, and the shrimp burrito. My pork chop was the best I have ever had. The sauces on the entrees were nothing short of exceptional, and the meats were cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed a bottle of the Navarro pinot noir, a perfect accompaniment.
Wright S — Google review
Every dish we ate here was delicious and specially crafted starting with the nacho appetizer to the chocolate mousse pie dessert. The restaurant is multi cuisine and so there is a very nice variety of food available. We started with the clam chowder which was the most flavorful ever followed by the nachos which was tastefully complimented with beans, sour cream and guacamole ….. simply yum ! We also ordered the fish “catch of the day”, blackened but soft and tender in the inside. Domains and the chicken satay were also great additions while the chocolate pie was a perfect finish to this big and delicious meal. Portion sizes were generous, the hosts were very hospitable and the ambience was very nice and warm. Highly recommended !

Mendocino is one of the hidden gems on the CA Coast and this little place just makes the trip complete. I have had alot of grilled cheese sandwiches around but I can tell you that this place offers up the best. I added avocado and tomato to mine and it was delicious. Fish eaters will probably be happy here (4/5 green stars also) Stopped here for lunch and I had the veggie burger with avocado and side of fries ($11) and my friend had fish and chips ($13). I think she liked the fish and chips more than I liked the veggie burger. My burger bun (ciabatta) and trimmings were very good but the burger was one of those heavy duty jobs made from processed soy protein. It’s just my personal preference that I don’t much like those soy burgers and would rather have one made from less-processed ingredients (like quinoa or sweet potato, or any veggies really). Next time I’d go for their portabella mushroom burger instead. The skinny fries were also not my favorite style. So, I would have been a lot happier with a different veggie burger and chunkier fries, but I still liked it fairly well. And as mentioned, the battered fish looked (and apparently tasted) very good, so between us I think we’d score it 4/5. I think they’re working on improving the fries too, so I look forward to trying them again on the next visit to Mendocino : ) I’m also giving them 4/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • For meat-eaters, they list their beef source – grass-fed, from Covelo farms. • For fish, they stock local rock cod and Monterey prawns. • So, although they don’t list sources for everything (e.g., chicken) they do seem to have made more sustainable / humane choices as far as some ingredients are concerned. • They also offer an organic spinach salad. • They charge 10 cents for water – I think this is a good idea; we need to start valuing water more. • However, would prefer if they didn’t use disposable cups for water served in-house (or at least a more sustainable brand). • Similarly for sauces, would be better to use ceramic or paper containers rather than plastic. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me!

First Mendocino pit stop for lunch. Friendly, helpful staff - happily catered to my fussy details. The chef even came up to ask if I want my bread buttered - thanks for being so considerate and tolerating my finicky palate. My boyfriend enjoyed his sloppy joe's just as I did my Beyond burger on sourdough. Conveniently located, perfect for a quick bite in a comfortable spot with big windows capturing the sun; alternatively grab to-go and enjoy the beauty of Mendocino with your food.

Looks better than it tasted. The fries were good, not frozen atypical Sysco status, but could have used the optional garlic. The burger would have been a lot better experience if it was seasoned. The patty was quite bland and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t grass fed.. the strawberry lemonade tasted quite similar to Simply. I tried my significant others chicken sandwich which was also lacked flavor.

While California state mask restrictions were still in place. This establishment decided it was well within their rights to penalize law abiding citizens who wanted to ensure their safety and the safety of others by wearing a mask while ordering. That's right- the owner wants anyone who "wears a mask while placing the order" or those "caught bragging about their vaccine" to pay a $5 surcharge. Yup, that's FREEDOM! If you've lost anyone to COVID- the owners of this fine establishment are part of the problem. Take your business elsewhere.

Watershed Books is an extraordinary bookstore with a captivating atmosphere. The ambiance of this place is truly remarkable and I am greatly impressed by it. I purchased Bernays propoganda and acquired several other exceptional literary works from their collection. I am extremely delighted to have discovered this store and intend to make further book purchases in the future. The shopkeeper at Watershed Books is incredibly accommodating, catering to all customers' needs.

A basic used bookstore with a wide variety of reading materials/resources to pick from...Of most comical intrest to me was in the stacks I found a 1985 Writers Digest, indeed a marked resource for anyone planning to transport back to the Reagan years (or for those seeking info on what was being looked in the past publishing arena. The proprietor commented that the business is experiencing a good patronage. It's good to see that the world is not completely overwhelmed by the digital machine...which is in contrasting observation to the door to door Ukiah music/book stores I visited during the previous day which were both calling it quits. So save our our culture and go out to Watershed Books (or your nearest bookstore) and find something classic to look at other than your social media facebook.

Today, I stumbled upon Williams Gallery and was captivated by his captivating photography. The profoundness of his images is truly mesmerizing; I have never witnessed such a showcase of creativity and significance behind William's artistic process. His photography effortlessly transforms into an array of stunning abstract designs. I express my gratitude to William for creating such remarkable beauty through his artistry. The owner, Nancy, found him to be highly engaging as she enjoyed conversing with him.
We have had a wonderful experience with this gallery. My husband and I have a modern-ish rental in the Mendocino area with a very large wall that needed—well—SOMETHING. We had scoured what we thought were all of the local galleries, to no avail. A second Saturday directory pointed us toward this little gem. The owner/photographer/artist, William, greeted us immediately (he has to —the place is smaller than a postage stamp). Anyone who has been accosted by a shopkeeper in a small shop knows that these greetings can be extremely awkward. This was decidedly NOT the case here. William’s greeting was warm and generous of spirit, and we quickly found him to be a genuinely congenial, pragmatic sort with an artist’s sensibility. Anyhow, his photographs are STUNNING, and we found that the stories behind them only added to their interest. Bottom line, we selected a triptych (my word of the week care of William) with some very basic guidance from him. We recently hung them in our space, and we are THRILLED! Don’t miss this gallery— even if you don’t purchase one of Will’s photos, you’ll enjoy the experience!

Sometimes when you travel off the beaten path you are treated to something you hadn't expected. Something unique and inspiring. Something that leaves a lasting impression upon you. This is exactly what happened when my wife and I visited Mendocino in April. It was there in the water tower that we were introduced to William De La Mare, owner of The Water Gallery. William is an incredible soul with an amazing story. Taking the time to get to know him will make you appreciate his work even more. William's work is one of a kind. His ability to capture the union of light with the forces of nature on water is truly unique. He has a gift for taking a deeper, more personal look at the interaction that will leave you awestruck. If you're in Mendocino, take the time to travel off the beaten path and visit William. You won't be disappointed.

Found Williams Gallery by chance today, and was so intrigued by his photography. The depth of his pictures are truly mesmerizing I have never seen such a display of artistry and meaning behind what drives William in making his photography in becoming so many different beautiful abstract designs in one. Thank you William for all the beauty you’ve created. Nancy

My friend and I stumbled into this gallery by chance; the proprietor, William, welcomed us in. I found his photographs, particularly the ones of water, to be mesmerizing. If I had the cash on hand, I certainly would have bought many of his works. I was grateful for the opportunity to see his work, as it gave me a new perspective on the majesty of water. Well worth a look, whether you are buying or not. Despite the fact that I wasn't in the market (my friend did purchase a handmade bowl), William was gracious and engaging. You can tell from the books he keeps that he is knowledgeable on a wide range of topics. I would have loved to hear more about his motorcycle journeys - he had been on an epic trip before currently settling down in Mendocino due to the coronavirus pandemic. My friend and I took up a lot of his time, but William was gracious and willing to chat. After we left, I turned to my friend and said that "I feel like we've just met the most interesting man in the world." Great experience, wonderful gallery, engaging owner. All our best on your future travels, William.

This is a not-to-be-missed secret gem tucked behind other structures. Upon walking into the Water Gallery, I was immediately struck by the abstract nature of William de la Mare’s water photographs. These are no ordinary photos of water. Instead, William has captured water not only in different forms (water, steam, snow), but also in its intrinsic and unnoticed forms. Beautiful! Equally important, take some time to have a conversation with William, who has a varied background and whose name de la Mare interestingly means ‘of the sea’. His interest in capturing water in photographs goes philosophically deeper into water as a precious resource. So true. William also creates these lovely and delicate porcelain bowls and wood sculptures that have natural and organic shapes. Feels, and looks, good to the touch. The only suggestion I would make is to encourage William to post his pricing clearly. Or maybe I just missed it because my eyes only looked at the photographs! Do yourself a favor. Don’t miss the Water Gallery.

My husband and I wandered into this quaint and funky little art gallery and were very impressed with the photography! William creates amazing water photography, as well as collects and 'restores' beautiful pieces of driftwood. The art is mesmerizing, and I plan to visit again and purchase a piece for myself! It is a must-see in downtown Mendocino. Awesome place!

Was in area with our family and came across a quaint and unique gallery in one of Mendocino's iconic water tower. The gallery owner is also the artist-photographer of the works displayed. His work - of water as the name would imply - is beautiful and evocative of the area. I spent an hour in lively conversation and an order for one of his works. It arrived matted, as promised a week after we returned home. Well worth a browse!

There are galleries you walk into and know immediately you are seeing something special, something different, something through the eye of a photographer who sees the world in a light only they can perceive. I don't get that feeling very often. I did at the Water Gallery. De La Mare's work on water and light is a phenomenon all its own. I love the print I purchased. If you are in Mendocino, don't miss this tiny tucked away water tower and a chance to talk directly to the photographer.

Really lovely toyshop with all the best whale plushies and cute possums! Super high quality soft but substantial. In addition to plushies, we spent a lovely time looking at the puzzles and stationary. The seagull babies of maybe they are sand pipers?...they are so cute staring out of the basket! Take them home!

I have worked in early childhood for 11 years and have a two-year-old. I love to stop in toy stores whenever I’m traveling. This was one of the best I’ve ever been to. Each section has been carefully curated and beautifully displayed. They have the best of the best of every kind of product, which would typically take me hours to search through reviews to identify. Staff was friendly and helpful, while also eager to maKe my little one smile. Next time we are in town, I won’t miss stopping in this lovely place.

Cyn K — Google review
This is a lovely gallery! They have been in Mendocino for many years and just keep getting better. Their new location is the best yet, with ample space and great lighting throughout the gallery. Very conveniently located on the main strip, facing the gorgeous ocean and bluffs. Nearly, if not all, of their inventory is from local artists and the variety is rather amazing. Gorgeous original paintings, artist proofs, limited editions and one of a kinds to choose from. Also master photography, sculpture, ceramics, woodwork, and some jewelry as well. Styles, selections, mediums and prices provide something for all tastes and budgets. The gallery has their own framing services. They do very nice work and are extremely accommodating and efficient. Lots of choices available for you to find the perfect frames and matting and all with their helpful expertise. To top it all off the gallery is owned by a local, Lynne Prentice. She is a delightful woman who has a lovely demeanor and the patience of a saint when working through your decisions with you. She and her gallery are warm, friendly and unpretentious. A very nice experience for anyone looking for a quality piece (or two🙄) to add beauty to their home. Street parking is available right in front of the store.

A beautiful building and a warm welcome! My friends and I were walking around he church when Reverend Davis came out and offered to show us around. He was incredibly helpful and warm and allowed us to climb up into the bell tower, which gave us an even better view of the gorgeous coast. Put a huge smile on our face!

Stopped by to take pictures, friendly secretary let me in and look around and ring their old Bell where you had to pull the rope. I looked at their history log of the church and members. They are also active with the homeless. Beautiful, clean, and friendly.

Pizza restaurant
Frankie's is a charming, family-owned pizzeria located in Mendocino, CA. This popular spot offers a variety of specialty pies, salads, and organic falafel, as well as a selection of ice cream and beer. The restaurant prides itself on being a community hub and often hosts events for holidays such as Halloween and the Fourth of July. In addition to classic pizza and ice cream offerings, Frankie's also serves espresso drinks, tea, wine, and beer.
We went here in the off season and just after it opened. We got a pepperoni pizza. It was so good. Perfect ratio of pepperoni. The crust was cooked perfectly. prices were average for the area. The staff was suprr nice.
DA K — Google review
We were excited to try Frankie’s, given its reputation and charming setting. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations. The small pizza we ordered had a soggy center, and the crust lacked flavor and seemed undercooked. It’s possible that the larger sizes fare better, but this one missed the mark. The Mediterranean salad was fine but nothing particularly memorable. On the positive side, the ice cream was enjoyable. They offer unique flavors like candy cap mushroom, which was surprisingly good. The selection is limited, but it’s a nice treat, especially considering the scarcity of late-night dessert options in Mendocino. The staff was friendly, and we only waited about 15 minutes, which was reasonable. While we appreciate the community vibe and the effort to provide diverse options, the food quality left us wanting more. Given the rave reviews, perhaps we caught them on an off day, but based on this visit, we can’t justify a higher rating.
Claire — Google review
I did not expect the pizza to be so good - absolutely delicious! They had vegan cheese (Daya) which you could add to any pizza - we got the smuggler’s with added black olives. I think all the sauces they use to make the pizzas were vegan as well so there is lots to choose from and you can also build your own. Will definitely be back
Maria — Google review
We had the big salad and a #9 pizza. The sausage was tasty and the olives and onions generous. The pizza had a nice thin crust with a bit of crunch. The small pizza and salad were perfect to share for dinner. They even made a decent Mocha and had a chai tea option for my wife.
Steve O — Google review
Overall pretty satisfied with the Virgin Creek pizza we ordered. Very flavorful and cool toppings but the crust was a bit too thick and flaky. The prices were a bit higher than expected but still worth visiting. The ice cream was out of this world, would highly recommend!
Nishi H — Google review
Ordered 3 Falafel balls for $6 (that's $2 each!) and this is what we got. When we showed it to one of the women who worked there, she told us that's normal instead of offering to get replacements. To top it off, they taste about as bad as they look. The small $18 pepperoni pizza may as well have been from Little Caesar's.
Robert H — Google review
In late to hotel, pizza sounded good. Recommended by hotel staff. It didn’t disappoint. Pizza excellent pepperoni and sausage , salad delicious. Only draw back was price. When you are hungry, you’re hungry. Will again soon.

Pizza was just OK. Spent $38 for a large pepperoni pizza I could’ve gotten at Little Caesars for $14 that would’ve been so much better😒$38!!! That’s insane!!! So so disappointed. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to eat.

Coffee shop
The Waiting Room is a charming eatery in Mendocino, connected to Cafe Beaujolais. Visitors praise its freshly-baked ham and cheese croissants and exceptional coffee, especially the oat milk cortados. The place also offers a good selection of beers from local breweries. Some patrons enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and friendly staff, while others appreciate the lack of extra charges for milk alternatives.
The pastries are on the same tier as the best pastry shops in major urban areas. The almond olive oil cake was the biggest standout with its crispy sugary top, better than at the famous spots in NYC. Scones were light and fluffy with crispy crags. Croissants were crispy and flaky. The cafe has a beautiful outdoor garden space in the back.

So much more than a coffee shop. Pastries and fresh baked home made treats are to die for. Amazing chi latte. Best spot in town. Old records are played in the back. Very homey and friendly.

Delicious selection of pastries, and very nice coffee (more on the fruity side). Highly recommend the cheese scone and the chocolate chip cookie! Seems like a well loved community spot. The inside is cozy, covered in wood panelling, and the outside patio is nice too.

Amazing atmosphere with the best coffee! The staff is awesome and they will make you the best chai latte, espresso or americano you've had in your life. The place beams with good energy and good vibes! Whether you’re inside enjoying great music by the wood stove or outside on the sunny deck overlooking the garden, the atmosphere is always perfect, just like their coffee!
Melissa F — Google review
Probably the worst coffee shop I've ever been to. Coffee tastes curdled every single time--baristas don't know what they are doing--but are snide, holier-than-thou, and treat you like a buffoon if you ask them to reset the wifi router despite that being one of the technical signatures of the coffee shop. Have no idea how they manage to stay in business...I guess being normatively attractive can let you put people through a toddler's idea of a business and inordinately inhumane service? Oh, and they might want to put a trash can inside of the business--you know, so that people don't have to walk out of the cafe every time with their trash to deposit elsewhere. A joke.
