Expansive mountain park with challenging trails, rocky cliffs, scenic views & camping (with permit).
One of the most beautiful State Parks I have visited. The views are outstanding! The different overlooks going up give you perspective about the beauty of the park. The habitats of mountain animals are really cool! But the best part is definitely the swinging bridge. The views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are out of this world.

Great Park. The main part of the park where the bathrooms and water is closed. So is the profile trail is closed. I Park at the Boone fork parking area. The first part of the trail head there can be confusing due to not having very good trail markers telling you which way the kiosk is so you can check in and get your permit. But once you find it the trails are marked good since then. I took the Boone scout trail going up to the peak. I made my way up to Hi- blossom camp site and stayed a night before making my summit to the top. The lean-to was nice to sit in but I would not recommend sleeping in it due to mice being all in it. Hi blossom is 5700 feet up so it's nice up there. There is no water up there so bring enough for yourself and freeze dried food. Making the summit was fun but I was unable to see far out due to being in a cloud. The grandfather mountain attraction is not part of the state park and they will not let you park overnight and you will have to pay to go there. If you are going to park and camp go to Boone fork Parking area. I saw a lot of people turning around due to their pack being to heavy or not having enough water.
Michael W — Google review
Staff at this park are top notch!! They were friendly and informative. They give you maps and a CD so you can have a “guided tour” using your radio in your car. They are conveniently stationed throughout the park. It is worth every penny to visit!! The visitors center has amazing animal enclosures that you can easily walk to. The animals look happy and well cared for.
Jamie H — Google review
Although the mountain was covered due to so much fog and the clouds, we had a great time hiking about 1/2 mile from the lower parking lot to the swinging bridge, and then obviously the same distance back (before driving to the top parking lot). We also crossed the bridge to conquer our fear. It was a nice visit to Grandfather mountain and the swinging bridge. The gift shop gives a military discount, but you need to ask and have your ID. The restrooms are clean. The lower parking lot has a porta-potty. The volunteers and park rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly. We also went to the Wilson education center and animal observation areas. We saw a big black bear, American eagle, otters (being fed sardines), elk, and a cougar laying on a branch about 15-20 feet up a tree. We also saw numerous humming birds at the feeders at the Wislon Center patio deck. We also hiked a short walking trail that loops through the forest (about .5 mile) and is just down the road from the Wilson Center. We also stopped at Split and Sphinx Rocks before leaving the park.
Glen B — Google review
I finally did it. I walked across the bridge and it was amazing. They have an animal sanctuary for kiddos young and old. There is a cafe at the visitors center but not sure if this is seasonal. May want to pack some snacks just in case. There are gift shops as well. Don’t forget to utilize any discounts such as military. Check before you go. The day we went was sold out but luckily we had a pass already. Enjoy.

Absolutely stunning place to be. Started out with sun. Ended up with us standing in the clouds as they rolled in. So much to do. The Swinging Bridge was by far top tier. Bucket list item ✅️ Hike✅️ Friendly staff✅️ Food was also good ✅️

While this isn't actually a state park, it is a privately owned facility. It does operate as a state park. Views are amazing! And grandfather trail is one of the top trails in North Carolina!

Great park! It has a variety of things to do with a mile high swinging bridge, hiking trails and a nature center. Our family always enjoys visiting.

We stopped by Sugar Creek Gem Mining and had a fun time with our four kids, ages 14, 13, 10, and 7. We bought “The Prospector” bucket for $39, which kept them busy for about 15 minutes. Gem mining is always expensive with 4 kids but this spot was clean, well-organized, and had great amenities like nice bathrooms and friendly staff. Overall, it was a great stop and worth it for the memories!
Valerie B — Google review
Solid activity for a rainy day with our 3 and 5 year old. We spent about 45 minutes here. Kids enjoyed sifting through the dirt and finding the gems. Kind of expensive for a bucket of dirt but pretty cool.
Matt Q — Google review
This place is absolutely amazing. It's almost so perfect, we don't want to share it with anyone else lol. My wife and I decided to take a day trip up here and it was well worth it. The owner is one of the best people we have ever met in our life. If you have a chance to stop by this place you definitely have to.
Mike S — Google review
Let me tell you all something about this place ... There's a young woman named Hope who made this more than just a gem mining experience. After the three of us (hubby and #2 son) finished sifting through our giant bucket of gravel, we brought our findings into the store. (8 bags full) Hope offered to help us identify our treasures. She quickly sorted, while I labeled and bagged, all of our gems while telling us all about the history and interesting facts of each one. Surprisingly, we only had about 7 stones that were only gravel and not gem stones. She's very knowledgeable and friendly. Her time with us made all the difference in our enjoyment of this experience. We made quite a haul, and we now know what we have! Thanks, Hope!!
Patricia V — Google review
It's okay if your kids have never done it before but there are definitely better options. They do put some some OK gemstones in the buckets but they use sand to make it easier for them to clean up and there are better experiences at other gem mining places close by that have a more authentic experience with much better gemstones qty and quality.
Bryan B — Google review
Went here with my husband and we had a great time! We came when there were few people there, so we basically had the whole sifting area to ourselves. We got some great chunks out of the $89.99 option! Front desk was also incredibly sweet.
Kate W — Google review
I'm pleasantly surprised with this place. The girls, 18 & 20, really wanted to go but I figured it was a typical tourist trap. In all honesty it kind of is. But we had an absolute blast. They found a lot of different stones, large ones actually, some as big as 4" round. Different colored crystals mostly. I had as much fun watching them as they had. I'd highly recommend it for any age if you keep an open mind.
David S — Google review
Finally checked out Sugar Creek gem mine - perfect for the cold & very windy day we were having. They have an enclosed outdoor area that is heated! Definitely made it easier on us. Kids loved it & got lots of beautiful & big gems. Definitely memories were made. Staff was friendly & everything seemed well organized. We did go during a quiet week & I know they get extra busy during weekends & holidays / prime visitor season. They are right across the road from the entrance to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort / next to Extreme

Nice little mountain. Bunny slope was excellent and great for learning. Not a huge variety of runs for beginners but it was good. Looks like they have an excellent kids lesson program. Bus from parking lot to the lodge and nice eating area (fried food grossness so bring food from home!)

Love love love this place we had the best time tubing and not enough time to enjoy the other adventures this beautiful place had to offer. Every one was so nice and polite we arrived at 7 for our reservation and everything was explained by the employees and were very helpful. My 4 year old and I were tubing non stop together along with my 11 year old she was just having the time of her life tubing. This place was close to many other beautiful attractions near by there just wasn’t enough time we will definitely be taking a long vacation there again and my daughter will be 5 old enough to ski with the rest of us next time. Very underrated mountain I definitely recommend.

We went 2/8 - 2/9. I will say that the negative reviews here seem quite embellished and/or come from folks that are not very experienced in this space (which is ok). There are pros and cons to every destination, I'll offer ours below. Overall - This is a smallish resort that is well run, but can feel the stresses of overcrowding quite easily. We went on a normal weekend with snow melting (temps in 50s) and on a Saturday it was packed and a bit uncomfortable. Staff were excellent, from attendants at rental areas all the way to lift operators and teachers. Pricing - Lift tickets are about normal, a little high for what you get. Ice skating and tubing costs are absurd for what you get. A family of three paying $150 total to scoot down a hill for 90 minutes is nuts. Ice skating for 3 is +$100 total too, for ice that is not well maintained. Our only staff issue of our trip was here, as the ice rink folks started packing up and leaving about 20 minutes before our time was up (you pay $35 for a 90-minute session, then done). Hard to understand why those prices are where they are. Conditions - Our little one needed to learn, so we hit the little bunny slope after missing out on lessons (they apparently fill up right at 8am for the day). It was warm out but the snow was in good shape, the magic carpet and lifts were very well maintained.

I recently visited Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and had a mixed experience. Getting equipment and onto the slopes felt extremely unorganized. Most of the staff who spoke English were quite rude, except for those in the gift shop who were friendly and helpful. Service in the food and bar areas was notably slow. On a positive note, the slopes were actually quite good, although the snow machines blasting directly on the lifts were a bit of a nuisance. Overall, while the skiing itself was enjoyable, the service and organization left much to be desired.
Dj R — Google review
Sugar Mountain: Bigger, Busier, and Worth the Trip Sugar Mountain stands out as one of North Carolina’s largest ski areas, offering more runs and a bigger variety than nearby Appalachian Ski Mountain. The slopes are well-maintained, and there’s plenty of terrain for beginners through advanced skiers. The only drawback is crowding after 11 a.m., when lift lines grow noticeably longer. Go early to maximize your time on the snow. Despite the wait, the size and quality of the mountain make it a must-visit for any skiing enthusiast in the region.
Luke S — Google review
The mountain itself is pretty solid, especially for being this far south — but the season pass prices are absolutely ridiculous. It’s a real shame, because with more reasonable pricing, they could easily attract more locals and keep people coming back all season. Even Beech offers a solid pass option around $500, which feels fair. Whoever’s running this place doesn’t seem to realize that more affordable passes would mean more visitors spending on rentals, food, and lodge amenities, like myself.

Grandfather Vineyard & Winery is a family-run winery located in a scenic setting with beautiful grounds. The winery offers a tasting room and hosts frequent events, making it an ideal destination for wine enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy live music every weekend amidst the gorgeous backdrop of vineyards and a bold stream running through the property. The ample seating options, including Adirondack chairs, covered patio areas, and tables with umbrellas, provide a comfortable space to savor their selection of wines.
This family-owned winery is such a beautiful place! And there are so many ways you can enjoy it! On some days you can sit, enjoy music while sampling the many wines. Or sit by the Watauga River and enjoy the sounds of the running river. Walk the 5 acres of vineyard and enjoy the view below from the hillside. Kids and adults enjoy wading in the flowing stream. The trees and flowers are gorgeous and well-maintained. Bees and butterflies can be seen on many of the blooms. Grandfather Vineyard & Winery was founded in 2003 as a hobby, and then opened its doors to the public in May of 2011. In a previous year, they processed roughly 80 tons of grapes. Grandfather Vineyard and Winery has received several Awards, including 6-time winner of the NC State Fair "Best of Show Cup", and several other Awards since 2013. There is plenty of parking, and a shuttle was provided from the lots. At this visit there was a food truck offering some delicious eats. Really nice place to hang out, taste some wine and enjoy the vibe. The wine? Well, it’s North Carolina but the wine was okay enough that we drank it all. Basic rose was probably their best. there is a stage so I guess they have live music. Can’t wait!

Generally I do not like drinking with children but this place had seating that allowed spacing out. It was packed! They had golf cart shuttle from the parking area, and that was amazing! Thank you for that! The flights were fantastic. The creek is beautiful, and the employees were stellar, and really knew how to keep it moving. It was a beautiful place and we will definitely come back!
Shalom C — Google review
We stopped by Grandfather Mountain Vineyard and Winery during our family trip and absolutely loved it! Very beautiful spot, the creek was gorgeous. Seating is first come first served, so we got very lucky in getting a table because the place was pretty packed. We had to make a couple of rounds to find parking but loved that they had a golf cart to help people get to their car. We enjoyed the live music, the wine tasting was nice along with the charcuterie box we got. There were a couple of food trucks, but I wish there were more options for food. Other than that, it’s a place I’d like to visit again if I was in the area.
Rossy A — Google review
Awesome venue as always!! We visit here often and always have a wonderful experience!! Just one thought maybe expand the restrooms!! This seems much more important than the bridge as the number of guests continues to rise I’d focus on accommodating their needs which makes restrooms very important. The porta johns are nasty and tacky.
Krystal H — Google review
Beautiful. Lovely place. Only wish you could pick your "flight". Nice atmosphere with music, lots of seating under umbrella tables overlooking the vineyards while next to a flowing creek. Nice!

The Painted Fish Cafe and Beer Bar offers a cozy atmosphere with a heated outdoor patio, serving creative comfort foods paired with craft beer and a full bar. Despite its unassuming decor, the restaurant surprises diners with high-quality dishes that justify the slightly expensive prices. The menu features unique items like mushroom truffle creme brulee, expertly executed by the chef. While staffing shortages have affected their availability for brunch, the friendly staff and delicious food make it worth visiting.
Great beer selection and the food was enjoyed among my table of 4. My veal masala was a little bland, but cooked tender with prefect pasta. Envious of my neighbors tuna. Perfectly cooked and the presentation was excellent on all our dishes. Great supper house!

Pleasantly surprised. 8/10 Very clean and comfortable, food was well done. Eclectic menu was an added bonus. The beer was cold and the old fashion was quite good. Highly recommend the pot pie and pork belly appetizer. The Mac and cheese was good as well. Our server was very nice and responsive.

Absolutely an unexpected experience in the best way possible! The decor throws you off. It's gives off mom and pop restaurant vibes and I was expecting typical mom and pop quality food. I opened the menu and was very surprised with the expensive prices but I went with it. The. Food. Was. Fabulous! So worth it! I have never been so happily surprised. They had a mushroom truffle creme brulee that sounds risky but the chef pulled it off so well! He even came out to say hi to us and see how we liked it. I'm only giving them four stars because it was weird eating such delicious food and be staring at stuffed animals.
Roxie W — Google review
Delicious food and very friendly staff. I wish they could find more staff to be able to have more availability. We tried to go back the next day (Sunday) for brunch, but we were told they no longer have brunch because of being short-staffed. They are doing a wonderful job with food and I hope they get staffing down soon! Appetizer: tuna nachos Soup: curry chicken and tomato Entree: blackened salmon

Amazing dinner tonight. Reservations are recommended but not needed tonight. Service was quick. Meals are mostly made from scratch and from local sources. Black and Bleu Burger, Chicken Pot Pie, and Beef Stroganoff. All were incredible. This is a must do when in town.

Amazing meal! Very very good. Unassuming restaurant from the outside and comfortable/casual environment. Food punches way above it's weight. Wife had the sesame crusted ahi tuna and I had the cashew stir fry shrimp (coffee rubbed filet was already sold out for the night). Both entrees were outstanding. Also had arancini appetizer, excellent. Staff was super friendly and very attentive. Highly recommend. We got blue pie and and Cabernet chocolate torte to go. Both of those were excellent as well. Running out of superlatives for our meal. Definitely coming back.
Wesley R — Google review
The sesame crusted tuna was delicious. I was expecting the ambience to be different. It wasn't bad by any means but thought it might be cozier judging by the menu. Six in our party and each was well pleased. Disappointed that the filet was not available along with a couple of beers. I would recommend..

Great food. Charming, clean interior. Easy parking. Enjoyed chatting with the bar keeper and a local. We were in no rush. They were quite busy. Make reservations before going. Strawberry bread pudding was grand. My husband enjoyed his steak. Pork Belly appetizer was great. I also liked the escargot. Food was fresh and they try to incorporate local produce.

We had breakfast here twice on our recent trip to the area. The service, food and cocktails were all very good! We also really enjoyed the live camera that shows the "Grand view" of Grandfather Mountain inside the restaurant! Great cozy lil place! Also the grits are top notch! Probably the best restaurant grits I've ever had! Got them with pepper jack cheese for a little kick!

4.5 stars. Stopped in on a trip home from a mountain vacation. It was a Sunday morning, fairly crowded, seemed a little understaffed. Service was a little slow, drink didn't get refilled, but again, it was crowded. Food was absolutely delicious, omelette was absolutely stuffed with meat. Fantastic little spot, well worth the visit.

One of my favorite breakfast places to visit. We like to arrive early to avoid the busyness. Everything is always good. The stewed apples are a must!!!! You can see Grandfather Mountain from the parking lot. There are actual TV's with a live view of the mountain inside. Hours are 7-2. Year round. Closed on Tuesdays I don't remember seeing a wheelchair ramp

My fiancé and I love Grandview! It’s one of our favorite breakfast/lunch spots in the area. The staff are always so sweet and attentive and the food is 10/10. Today we had the biscuits and gravy (which were delicious as usual) and we also tried two of their specials, the crepes and the French dip. Both were phenomenal! We are so exited that they now serve alcohol and enjoyed some Bloody Mary’s with our meal as well. It’s always a great experience!

We visited Grandview on our first morning in the Boone area and quickly became regulars. The restaurant was always busy, but service was quick and the food was excellent. The chocolate chip pancakes were amazing! The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We especially loved our waitress Jess - she did a great job each time we went. We were sad to find out they currently aren’t open on Tuesdays, otherwise we would have gone every day for breakfast! We even decided to get takeout on our last day in Boone so we could have breakfast for our road trip home. Thanks to Grandview for a great experience during our vacation!

“That was delicious “- my 13 year old. Back again in 2023! Newer menus but still delicious. Consistently delicious for 44 years. The building and interior definitely looks old but The focus is the atmosphere and food. Open 7-3 Thursday through Monday and breakfast is all day. Prices are very reasonable and this is also a locals favorite. Beautiful photographs from a local artist are for sale.

Subway is a popular counter-serve chain known for its customizable sandwiches and salads, offering healthy options. The Subway in Banner Elk, NC stands out as a top choice for many visitors due to its consistently clean environment, friendly staff, and delicious food. Customers appreciate the attention to cleanliness and the welcoming atmosphere created by the courteous employees. It's also noted that the owners take pride in their business, which reflects in the overall experience.
We went at 6pm Feb 3, 2025. We travel a lot and have been to many restaurants. Banner Elk Subway really impressed me! The 3 employees, Trey, Michael and Bayleigh were the complete oppposite of what you hear about young folks being lazy and not wanting to work. They were SUPER friendly. Michael and Bayleigh made fantastic sandwiches and were so patient with my indecisiveness. Trey asked me if I liked football and so we talked about which college and pro teams we liked. The 3 worked together like best friends and seemed appreciative of not only having a job, but of the customers. Obviously, they have been raised right and have a manager who appreciates them. They probably could teach customer service classes to local folks, starting with Bella's crew next door, as all the times Ive gone there, I only had one really nice waitress. Stay positive and do not let the mean customers change who you are! Thank you for the fun experience!

Spent 30 dollars for 2 subs was a little disappointed. What I didn't like was the impatient attitude of the lady working. She constantly would repeat her questions urging us to make rapid decisions when no one was even in the store besides us. We had just finished a 10 hour construction shift so my bad for not being quick enough for you. If your that annoyed by your job and people maybe look into something different for work.

Absolutely ridiculous, second time this month I was craving the sensational taste of a subway sandwich. Not once but both times was I incredibly disappointed with abysmal negligence of the employees. Their incompetence led to my bread not getting toasted at all when I clearly specified the sandwich to be toasted. I don’t know who this anti crunch bandit is but I hope they are identified immediately.
Max H — Google review
We had a bulk order through them and they were very quick and kind. The store is a bit dirty but that can be overlooked because the sandwiches are so good and the service is always so kind.

I travel the western part of NC for work and eat at lots of Subways. This is by far the best subway I've been to. It's always a lovely experience. The restaurant is always clean including the lobby, sub station area and the restrooms and the staff is always smiling, kind and courteous. Right after the lunch rush they have staff cleaning and preparing for what's to come next. Thank you Subway of Banner Elk for always being a great experience!
Jessica L — Google review
Got my usual 12" Cold Cut Combo on white. Excellent as usual, and the staff was super friendly!

Best Subway hands down! The staff is always friendly and the subs are always amazing. I live locally and my kids went away to college and they always complain that they can’t eat at any other subway because they are spoiled by the one in Banner Elk. Owners take a lot of pride in their business and it shows.

Restaurant
Artisanal Restaurant offers upmarket American cuisine in a beautifully converted barn, with the option for outdoor dining and a complimentary local shuttle service. Nestled in a charming mountainous setting with a tranquil stream, it provides an unforgettable dining experience. Despite a pared-down menu, the selections are excellent, offering dishes like queen crab soup and sea bass that leave diners thoroughly impressed. The restaurant's pre-fixed menu caters to both meat eaters and vegetarians, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Simply amazing start to finish. Everything about Artisanal from the food to the staff to the ambience is the top of the mark. They offer a 3 course prix-fixe menu with six options per course utilizing local ingredients. All the dishes we ordered were perfectly executed in both flavor and presentation. The entire staff from the valets, the hostesses, the bartenders, the servers, to the chef’s were well trained, knowledgeable, attentive, professional and pleasant. Top-notch all the way. If you enjoy amazing food, in a beautiful setting, then artisanal is a must whenever you find yourself in the high country.

We have a fantastic experience tonight at Artisanal Restaurant!! The food was delicious!! The staff was very attentive to us. Everything went so smoothly. What a wonderful experience!

Lovely, lovely dining experience. Not a lot of fine dining experiences in NE TN and Western NC. This was wonderful. A huge and attentive staff with a nice selection of options from a prix fixe menu. Beautiful presentation and delicious food. We were seated so we could watch the kitchen which we loved. If interested, ask for table 20 or it's neighbor. Highly recommend, but reservations fill.up quickly.

Artisanal pays attention to meaningful details. The staff is warm and inviting. The architectural aesthetic is unique and beautiful just like the food. Most importantly the food can't be beat, in terms of flavor and ingenuity. This is a first class experience from people who care to make your time memorable. I've eaten here twice and both visits were exceptional. It deserves Michelin acknowledgement.

Exquisite! The terrace was lovely-ask to eat outside! The food was delightful, servers kind.

Beautiful and relaxed ambience while sitting outside next to the creek. The tuna tartare was an amazing 1st course as well as the St. Louis ribs. My wife enjoyed the lamb as a main course, and I devoured the halibut. Highly recommend the Doc Holiday cocktail if you enjoy an old fashioned.

There are two restaurants I've dined with that were so incredible and so unique that I the experience stuck with me for days after. The first is a lovely Michelin star bistro in Paris called Benoit. The other is Artisanal. I went to celebrate my engagement and it was an absolutely incredible experience. The location is lovely - tucked into a crease in a charming, rustic, and warm corner of the mountains with a lovely trickling stream in the back. Should you arrive early, they have a lovely spot on the patio near the fire to enjoy yourself (and one of of their signature cocktails). The food itself is world-class. If Artisanal were in any major city, I have no doubt it, too, would have one (or more!) Michelin stars. The croquets were a lovely start - and the calamari was absolutely incredible - perhaps the best I've had. The soup was killer - and even the rolls were among the best I've had - served fresh in a cast iron skillet. Our meals were exquisite - the ribs alone, a simple and common dish, were done to perfection and melted in the mouth. In addition, and I can't stress this enough, the staff were lovely - even going so far as to bring complimentary champagne for our celebration. The desserts, of which we'd taken the unusual step of choosing two - were undeniably lovely and, like every dish, prepared with more care and presentation than needed.. The bottom line is if you're looking for a world class meal (and don't mind it running a bit pricey) you won't find a better spot to dine for at least one hundred miles - and certainly not a more picturesque location!

Had excellent service tonight. The food was incredible and the service was even better. I did not receive one thing that was sub-par and every menu item was delicious and thoughtfully created. Compliments to the chef on creativity and taste. Compliments to my waitress who walked us through every single step of the way and was eagerly waiting my every need. Amazing resturaunt and if you have the ability to… please take the opportunity to try. Our waitress had our car pulled up front while we toured the facility!

Banner Elk Cafe & Tavern is a delightful coffeehouse and dining spot that also features an espresso bar and an ice cream shop, all connected by inviting outdoor decks. The establishment offers a charming ambiance with sections built around a large fire pit, as well as an extensive wine list to complement the dining experience. Visitors can enjoy the wonderful service while taking in the scenic surroundings of Banner Elk.
We had a nice lunch here while passing through Banner Elk. We came after the lunch rush and had no issues with service. I think they probably get busy during ski season. There is some parking on site, but we parked in a municipal lot across the street. One unique thing was we were given 2 menus for separate kitchens that serve Italian and American fare. We were warned that if we ordered from different menus, our food might not come out together. We just wanted sandwiches so it was fine. The portions were big, I needed a to go box for my sandwich.

STOP HERE for top tier service. Simplicity, thy name is not the Banner Elk Cafe There are two menus - Italian and American. Not sure why. There is something for everyone and they actually make a wide range of dishes well. The Chicken Florentine was fantastic. Loads of Bruschetta and delicious shrimp. So many choices! The servers were welcoming and did a solid job.

We stopped here today with 20 motorcycle riders and they were amazingly accommodating. Thankfully they have lots of seating and great staff. The food was also excellent, get the dessert!!! Lots of variety on the menu and very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Such an interesting spot where you can order from two different menus (American and Italian). I was in town as part of my quest to visit all 100 counties, and I had the pinto bean special. My server Luke was great and the food tasted so homemade. The prices were quite reasonable. Would definitely come back.

So you know barbecue is my thing. I usually go to the pedal and pig when i'm in the banner.Elk area, but on this occasion, I had my wife with me and decided we would go somewhere a little nicer where we could get out and walk around after the meal. I can't say enough.Good stuff about the food we ate there twice in the course of three days. Service was outstanding, one day and better than average. On the other. The thing that impressed me the most was the fairness in their pricing for the quantity and quality of food provided. If you followed me for a while, you know, i'm kind of picky and this place gets great reviews from me.They earned it.Don't disappoint yourself.Give them a try

Stonewalls Restaurant is a long-standing establishment in Banner Elk, NC, known for its old-school vibe and locally owned and operated since 1985. The restaurant takes pride in serving amazing prime ribs, seafood, steaks, and cocktails. It offers a casual dining experience with an extensive wine list and outdoor seating options around a large fire pit. Located at 344 Shawneehaw Ave S., Stonewalls Restaurant is a must-visit for foodies exploring the Banner Elk area.
Our waiter Josh was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and other things. The food was amazing. I had the Emperor Cut Prime Rib and the twice baked potato and my wife had the Filet Mignon with a baked potato. The Mississippi Mud Pie was delectable and the bartender was excellent. We also tried escargot for the first time and it was absolutely delicious. The salad bar was also worth the $8.

We are visiting from FL and came to Stonewalls for a family dinner! We started with some calamari and spinach artichoke dip, both were delicious! I had the aged ribeye and it was cooked to perfection! Our server, Raegan, was amazing! She was very friendly and attentive. After dinner we finished with some of the cinnamon roll bread pudding and crème brûlée. We will definitely come back when we are in the area.

If you’re looking for a date night restaurant in Banner Elk, this is the place! We ordered the fried deviled eggs after seeing many recs from previous reviews, the NY strip, ribeye, & the bread pudding. Everything was amazing!
Shaelyn H — Google review
A great choice if you’re looking for a memorable dining experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I started with escargot and French onion soup, both of which were delicious. Then I had the NY Strip with an all-the-way baked potato, and it didn’t disappoint—perfectly cooked steak, and the potato was loaded just right. For dessert, the mud pie was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Be sure to make a reservation, as this spot gets busy, but it’s definitely worth it. The service was attentive, and the overall experience was top-notch. If you’re in the area and craving a great steak, this is definitely the place to go.

All the reviews say this is a good place to have dinner so we went. Sunday night, we were seated at 730 and it closes at 9. I figured ok, reviews give service pretty good marks and it’s not that late. We will be fine. Food was warm to cold. Lobster bisque was barely fair in taste. Alfredo was warm, chicken asparagus and mashed potatoes, warm. Everything was under seasoned and the staff was cleaning around us as we were about to leave. So, I’ll chalk this up as an off night and maybe try them again but it’s doubtful.

Their experienced guides provide thorough training and entertaining bus rides to the rafting site. Visitors of all ages and skill levels are welcome to enjoy this thrilling experience. The staff is known for their exceptional care and attention, especially towards individuals with special needs or disabilities.
If I could give 100/100 to ANY place..... This would be the one. From the second we pulled into the parking lot until the last minute we were shopping, this crew and adventure was a BLAST. The jokes were consistent and great, the ride to and from was safe and fun, the rafting!! Oh the rafting was great! The lunch was AMAZING too. I can't describe in enough words how much someone needs to just experience this to love it. Seriously so much fun, we had a great trip and made a ton of memories. The shop is full of neat gear too! Give this a go next time you are in the Boone/Banner Elk NC area!!! You won't regret it!

I went rafting with Edge of the World on July 7th for my birthday, and it was so incredible that I came back the very next Monday (July 14th) for my best friend’s birthday too! That should tell you everything 😆☺️ Both times were absolutely unforgettable — the guides were hilarious, knowledgeable, and made us feel completely safe while keeping the energy HIGH the entire trip. The experience was pure adrenaline and joy from start to finish. The views? Unreal. The vibes? Immaculate. I’ve already made up my mind — I will be coming back again (and again). And who knows… maybe one day I’ll be guiding my own raft down that river 🛶💦 I’d be honored to work with a crew this fun and passionate. If you’re thinking about it: DO IT. BOOK IT. GO. Best decision you’ll make all summer.

Dude!!! 5 stars are not enough for Josh and Owen!! The experience with these guys was so original. The ride to and from the drop off to the river was very entertaining. These guys are comedians! Because of their entertainment, the trip to and from the river went by so fast. Seriously, these guys made the experience unforgettable and makes me want to come back soon. Thank you Josh and Owen. Keep up the good work!! Dagoberto

My two teenagers LOVED it. The staff was phenomenal. They worked very hard to make the trip enjoyable. Yes, 5 hours of corny jokes but we all had a smile on our faces the whole time. I have rafted before and I will say the actual rapids themselves are lacking, but that is out of their control. Id say there was probably 2.5 hours on the frigid cold river, with maybe 4 "rapids" only one of them being a class 3. The rest were 1's I'm guessing. The guides made the experience worth the trip, especially if you have kids. I recommend for the fun but not an adventurous rafting trip if that's what you are looking for.

amazing experience. The guides were wonderful. Always hustling, always running, never walking. Every minute seem focused on the customer experience. Great time! Everyone was so friendly and helpful, the guides did a great job entertaining everyone, and they were great to all try to do something for Diana’s birthday! We were on Owen and Floyd’s bus - Owen was our guide. Floyd is hilarious, and Owen was a trooper trying to help me get back in the raft 🥲 but really this was so much fun, and everyone was so nice - always asking us our names and where we were from, what we do, etc. Can’t wait to come again next year!! Also nice that you get fed!!

Experience a taste of the bayou at Bayou Smokehouse & Grill in Banner Elk. This restaurant offers a relaxed setting with outdoor seating, where you can enjoy BBQ plates, Cajun dishes, craft draft beer, and an extensive wine list. The menu features hand-cut steaks, hand-crafted burgers, fresh local trout, and design-your-own salads made from locally sourced produce. Additionally, they host weekend brunches that are pet-friendly on the outdoor deck.
Dining early in Banner Elk had a wonderful meal at Bayou Banner Elk! Casual atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! Speciality cocktails have fun names. I had a Bless Ya’lls Hearts and it has just the right ratio of Gin and Elderflower. The Evangeline salad was perfect for me. Blackened shrimp and crawfish are served on a romaine salad with three fried green tomatoes and remauloude. I thought about some collards but I’ll save them for next time!

Worst creole food I have ever had. They don’t know the difference between gumbo and jambalaya. We ordered two servings jambalaya and you can see in the pictures it looks like gumbo. We ordered “jambalaya”, beans and rice, and shrimp and grits. All of it lacked flavor and depth. “Jambalaya” was watered down with very little sausage or protein in it. Beans and rice was very bland. Shrimp has no seasoning, sauce had no flavor, and grits was hard to break apart with a knife. Also, would like to note they were out of the gator. Service was a little lack luster too.

First time in Banner Elk and glad I stumbled into this restaurant bar. Was there both Friday and Saturday night and the drinks were priced good as well as I’m also having a pool table when you want us at the more casual. The club room in the back was awesome. DJ did a great job of keeping the crowd moving and happy. Great option to stop on in for a drink or for a night out

Came here for dinner while I was in town and sat out on the patio. I got the blackened shrimp po boy with Mac and cheese and Cajun fries. The sandwich besides the shrimp was meh but the shrimp itself was good. I also liked the two sides a lot as well. Lots of outdoor seating and the wait staff was very attentive.

It may be because it's in the mountains, but that was some of the best ice water I've had in a while. As for the food? Not so great. After checking the reviews, the rating, and looking at the menu, we had solid expectations. Alas, it was not meant to be. The BBQ offerings at a Cajun restaurant were a yellow flag. Let's see - we ordered the stuffed portobello (decent), chargrilled oysters (decent), shrimp and grits, jambalaya, fried shrimp, pecan trout, and gumbo. Where to begin. The shrimp and grits lacked flavor and grits tasted like the box they came in. There didn't seem to be a lick of seasoning and the texture was that of a microwave. The gumbo. Another victim of lack of seasoning. Just not anything like we've had in New Orleans or any other flavorful version of the dish. The pecan trout was OK, but I had to add salt to give it something. The bed of collards was underwhelming as well and that's one of my personal favorites to make at home. Not a pig was sacrificed in the making of these here collards... The fried shrimp tasted like they were dipped in naked cornmeal. I didn't taste a flake of salt, a grind of pepper, or much of anything at all. Which brings us to the worst dish of the night. The jambalaya. It tastes like tomato sauce from a can, the rice was mixed in the with the dish, and the sausage, obviously not andouille, was tough and bland. We intended to get dessert, but after all that, we just wanted to get going. To their credit, the chef did come out and discuss with us and we gave an honest review. He also took some off the bill (how to handle dissatisfied customers). I just think this is a case of catering to your clientele instead of focusing on the elevated execution we've become used to. It feels like a bar that serves food, and that's fine, but we were sober and the food just wasn't good.
Mark S — Google review
I want to start with the good here. My partner and I sat at the bar and ordered the slow cooked beef brisket, and it was perfect. Texture, flavor, all of the above. The only downfall was lack of BBQ sauce for the plate. We also ordered drinks while we were waiting for our food. I got a PBR from the tap and my partner, a blue moon, from tap as well. Both were a bit sour tasting, and from the bartender directly while poring the PBR - "the PBR tastes like bananas" immediately we knew that the taps hadn't been cleaned in a while. The PBR did have "notes" of banana, which it should not and the blue moon was a little sour or musty on the nose/ tongue. The bartender was generally a little inattentive. We mentioned the tap to the bartender, and she gave us a perplexed look like she didn't believe us. The bartender then dropped a glass a later on and it broke, and it remained on the floor behind the bar the remainder of the time we were there. This place feels like it could have a lot of potential, but it just fell short unfortunately.

On Saturday, I visited the ice cream shop BE Scooped with my family. When we walked in, a young lady warmly greeted us and showed great patience while two children made their flavor choices. She also provided helpful information about the area and engaged in friendly conversation for several minutes. The overall experience was delightful, and the ice cream itself was of high quality. I highly recommend this shop because of its pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious ice cream flavors like Sea Turtle.
A very nice little ice cream shop at the area. Prices are cheap/moderate for a scope. Located at the end of the complex so the outside sitting spot at evening is very relaxing . Inside have couple of table with little space but you can always enjoy your icecream outside 😇. Staffs are friendly , helpful and attentive. Ice cream tasted very good and selection are perfect for the season.

We just left the shop a few minutes ago. Always wanted to try it. This is the tiniest scoop we’ve ever had at a shop anywhere. This is a regular sugar cone with one scoop. It was $5.30 plus $1 tip. Very disappointing. It was eaten in less than 3 minutes. Are your scoops always this little? The gal serving was sweet. I didn’t say anything because these was a customer on a leg scooter right behind us, and I didn’t want her to have to keep standing waiting for us. This was not worth $5.30 plus tip. Sorry.

Cute little ice cream shop tucked away in the 'plaza' area. I stayed the weekend on Beech Mountain and came down to eat at the restaurants and explore a few times. Wonderful ice cream flavors and even had expresso drink options. The woman behind the counter was working alone everytime I saw her that weekend and handled the crowds and lines like a champ.

the store was clean but no business on a Sunday at 4:45pm should have been a dead giveaway. the barista was nice and cordial but made the wrong drink for my wife and claimed she couldn't make the any of the ice cream lattes they offer nor would she even try and gave me a less than mediocre cups of iced coffee. I wouldn't waste my time or money here. two sips and 8 dollar cup of Folgers was gone .

I have many great things to say about this place! First, the setup is very nice and unique! This location has a split level with two restaurants and an awesome live music area facing it! The design is very well done. Our server did a great job explaining the menu as we were first timers! We ordered the chicken Francese and salads to par. The chicken was very juicy and the sauces and capers paired well with the meal. The garlic bread for the table was the BOMB and next time we’ll try for dessert. Until next time Sorrentos!

Brunch Bliss in the Mountains! Sorrento’s in Banner Elk is a true Italian gem, and their brunch is absolutely top-tier. Everything was made with fresh, high-quality ingredients, and you can tell the kitchen takes pride in their craft. The service was exceptional—attentive, kind, and genuinely welcoming without ever being overbearing. Sorrento’s delivers the kind of brunch experience that feels both indulgent and comfortable. Highly recommend if you’re in Banner Elk—brunch here is a must!

We took my son here for his birthday dinner. I had the rigatoni, my wife had the crab cakes, son and his girlfriend both had the halibut daily special. I love Italian food and I'm picky about it. The rigatoni was incredible (I added meatballs). I tasted my wife's crab cakes and they were delicious. Coconut shrimp appetizer was amazing, and my son and his girlfriend loved the halibut. My wife and I split a pistachio cheesecake, son got the chef's table brownie and there was enough for everyone to have a taste. Everything was excellent and I over ate to the point that I thought I might get sick (my fault, I'm a glutton). It's a drive for us to get there, but worth it and we'll be going back.

Second time coming here and the meal was great! We had the appetizers: artichoke and mozzarella. Artichoke was so good! Mozzarella was ok, but the marinara sauce made up for it! Had the veal francese- AMAZING!

We were just passing through, and were looking for a place to eat. From the moment we got to Sorrento's to the last second we spent, the service was impeccable and so was the food. The Veal and Cjocken Marsala were probably the tastiest I've had. So was the lentil soup. We'll be back soon!

Had the opportunity to find an outside table and the mozzarella and pepperoni pizza were Devine! Service was top notch great suggestions on wine and beer. Atmosphere is very warm and inviting.

My Best Friend’s Barkery

4.7

Pet supply store
My Best Friend’s Barkery is a charming, locally-owned pet supply store that caters to dog owners but also offers a small section for cat products. The shop is known for its inviting and comfortable atmosphere, with a fenced-in yard where the staff's dogs play. Customers can find an array of high-quality food brands and adorable treats for their furry friends. However, some visitors have expressed concerns about expired food items on the shelves, urging the store to be more vigilant in checking product expiration dates.
A truly amazing store for your dogs and cats. You will be amazed by the quality and the quantity of healthy dog food along with any dog and cat "accessories" you can imagine.

This is a wonderful place to find different dog or cat food, supplements, dog shampoo, treats and toys. Our dog had a hard time with allergies while we were vacationing on Beech Mountain. We were able to find chews to treat his allergies as well as shampoo. Highly recommend!

If you are passing through the area you must stop at this cute dog shop! All kinds of healthy food, treats, and great toys! They also have indoor dog self-wash station and nice patio!
Haley F — Google review
The store was lovely. There were many different rooms for food, treats, clothing, leashes, and other pet products. I wish I had my dog with me at the time, but there were 3 other cute pups in the store to love on. Prices were reasonable. There were many products made locally (which I always try and buy) and a variety of really adorably decorated treats. The store was very clean and well stocked. Big selection of dog food and treats, most of which looked healthy and organic. There were also all natural pet products- everything from flea and tick prevention to anti-anxiety. I didn't exactly feel welcomed when I arrived- sort of like I entered into some side conversations between staff.

Such a cute little store with so many treats and necessities for your furry friends. We bought pur doggie some cute cookies for being a good boy while we were away for a few nights.

Wonderful selection of top brands and high end brands as well. I got some Huggable Hounds that are difficult to come by. Friendly and helpful staff too!!!

Always a must stop when we are in town. Our puppy loves this place and always feels at home. I love the variety, customer service, and sense of acceptance from other animal lovers. They have the most insane treat, toy, food, and supplement selection. Staff is knowledgeable and passionate about informing customers. I love that they offer a self washing station as well. We also love seeing little Katie girl when she's in.

Good selection of specialty food and treats for dogs( & cats). They have a rewards program, which is a plus. Very friendly and welcoming people. They have an assortment of fresh “barkery” treats. From Clothes, collars, supplements, cleaning supplies, treats, toys & foods, great selection. A small and local business with supporting.

Chef's Table at Sorrento's is a must-visit dining spot in Banner Elk, offering a diverse mix of American, Japanese, and Italian culinary delights. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh seasonal ingredients to create delicious options such as chicken tacos, salmon carpaccio, and beet salad. Guests can expect a formal yet welcoming atmosphere with attentive staff ensuring a top-notch dining experience. The desserts are not to be missed, as they are prepared with flair right in the restaurant.
We're visiting the Banner Elk area and been to this restaurant twice each time. It's been fantastic. Great service. Especially Ashlee and Lilly Will the bartender Joe the manager and Felix who could makes the most amazing coffees and desserts. Appetizers tuna sushi crab cake, goat cheese salad, Brussel sprouts, Entrees; Trout, Shrimp Parmesan, Sea Bass All delicious and decent portions. Friday night the music and entertainment just added to our fantastic experience. Five Stars.

I would really give it 4.5 stars. We were pleasantly surprised with how good it was. And the live singer they had - well I was skeptical. That is hard to pull off. But I have to say that I was a real fan at the end. He did an amazing job. He is worth seeing. There is a Vegas lounge feeling since all of the tables are right by the bar, so there isn't a separate dining room. And we were hoping for Italian, and there was only 1 special pasta dish with olives, so if you want Italian, go to the standard Sorrentos downstairs. This menu is more steak, seafood, and sushi. We asked if we could order pasta from the other restaurant (in the same bldg) and we were told no, which was fine. The food we got was all very good. The foccaccia bread was great too. They have a special dessert guy doing flamed desserts, which is cool. Then they did say we could have desserts from the downstairs menu! Oh well.

We made reservations for Chef’s Table over July 4th weekend. HUGE Mistake! You’d think with the name like “Chef’s Table”, it would be absolutely spot on, very elegant and attention to every detail..wrong! My husband and I were in town only one night, and were terribly disappointed. If you’re looking for a cheesy, open water go anywhere cruise ship type vibe, then you will fit right in. 1) We were seated OUTSIDE of the restaurant along a narrow walkway overlooking staircase entrance and the A/C was broken 😞 2). They had cheesy live music, Frank Sinatra style gentleman singing the entire time.I have nothing against Frankie but don’t want to hear someone performing his songs while I’m trying to talk to my husband and enjoy a romantic dinner 3) By the time the food arrived I lost my appetite. We didn’t leave because we knew we wouldn’t be able to get into any other restaurant by the time we were there. I will never go to this restaurant ever again. Many other options. Guest should know the quality before going.
Geri M — Google review
Not going to take the time to go into too much detail but in general, not what it should be and not quite what we were expecting. Tiny salt and pepper shakers on the table was the 2nd clue. 1st clue was bringing not quite completely cooked bread and calling it a gift from the chef. It was accompanied by a bottle of oil and a bottle of vinegar… mix it yourself if you like, but there wasn’t a dish to mix it in. Cook temps were perfect but overall flavor was lacking on both of our entrees. Credit card fee added on. Not terrible but we won’t return and can’t recommend.
Jim D — Google review
What a terrible experience. AC broken, hot, and mediocre (at best) food. We had reservations and instead of the main dining room, they put us in a tiny table in a hallway leading to the balcony! They had some guy singing songs you would normally hear in an elevator or cheap cruise ship. Stay away!
Carlos M — Google review
My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at The Chef’s Table. Making a reservation was super easy. Everything we had was magnificent ~ a bottle of Banner Elk Winery’s Red Blend, the blackened mahi-mahi and the rainbow trout (both served with mashed potatoes and asparagus), the tiramisu martinis and the dessert crepes made at your table. The staff were all wonderful too. I highly recommend for a nice evening out!

Lunch restaurant
Bella's Breakfast And Lunch is a cozy and welcoming cafe located at 142 Main St. E. in Banner Elk, NC. This charming spot offers delicious made-from-scratch breakfast options such as two eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit at an affordable price. Additionally, they serve New York-style deli sandwiches for lunch every day of the week. Bella's is known for its friendly atmosphere and tasty meals that keep customers coming back for more.
I was looking for a good breakfast place. I found it. The food was very good and felt homeaid but elevated. We got the pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuit, home fries, and county fried steak and gravy. It was all delicious. If you are in town, definitely try this place out. We are here on vacation but will go back again this trip.
Chad H — Google review
Food was very good, we had the fried green tomato Benny and country fried steak. Little pricey for the portions. Mimosa was good but also a little pricey.
Brooke P — Google review
They have a extensive menu with many choices. On a busy Sunday morning, we were seated quickly, but had to wait a while for a waitress to come and take our order. Oddly, they offered coffee immediately, but not water. When the server brought our food, we asked for water, and it took a while. We were half way through our meal before water arrived. My wife had a mushroom based omelet which was disappointing because it was not very substantial, mushrooms barely noticeable, mostly red pepper and egg, fried on both sides. I had better luck with the waffle which was tasty with chopped fresh strawberries sprinkled on top. We asked for coffee refill, which was delayed by the need to brew a new pot. As compensation, the restaurant gave us 2 large coffees to go.

Well. I ordered the only thing that I would not recommend. The Tuna Melt. While the Tuna itself was tasty, it was scarce and put between two pieces of dry toast. Unlike any Tuna Melt I've ever had in all our travels. My onion rings were hard, very greasy, and dark. Hubby ordered the Mediterranean Omelet and said it was amazing, while my son thoroughly enjoyed his Breakfast Burrito. We eat here every time we visit the area because their food is so good. I've had the Salmon Omelet before, and it was delicious. They're only open until 1:00, so plan accordingly. Their sister location, also called Bella's, has the best Italian food and pizza in the area of you have a craving.

I stopped in on Sunday around Noon and ordered a BLT with fries. The bread wasn’t toasted as much as I like, but the bacon was crisp as ordered and plenty of it. The lettuce was fresh and dark green. The fries were fresh, too. I did want to eat inside, but the strong smell of Fabuloso/other cleaning product was too strong and would have made me nauseous. I use it to clean on my job but am not a fan of the scent. Amber was prompt and polite and my favorite part was the extra kind and friendly hostess (I missed her name). It was my first visit to Bella’s and I would return.

Tried out this nice little place for breakfast this AM. It was great! Food was hot and tasty, nothing super unique but a good classic breakfast choice. Our service outshined everything, our waitress was super friendly and hospitable and consistently checked up on us and made friendly small talk. Kind helpful and friendly service makes a world of difference. I would recommend trying this place out and seeing if it's your cup of coffee 😌

9am adventure: My family and I were greeted fairly quickly and sat quickly. Once reviewing the menu we saw some great options for breakfast and lunch so we decided on breakfast menu for the cinnamon swirl French toast. Unfortunately when it came time to order we were told that they were out of the cinnamon swirl French toast. Continuing with our order, my kids each asked for the veggie burrito which we’re told that they no longer have pico de gallo and guacamole and no quiche. When I put in for my order, steak and eggs, I was highly disappointed with the steak. I have never in my life order a steak and eggs with the thinnest paper like steak. I was caught off guard by the size of the steak but at least it had some flavoring. My wife ordered the grill chicken Caesar wrap but they didn’t have grilled chicken only fried chicken which we didn’t order. All of this for a $97 bill at the end. On a good note, the young lady hosting, serving, and cleaning was very respectful about everything. Great friendly greeting, knew the menu from top to bottom, and sincere about her job/position.

We recently vacationed on Beech Mountain and tried Bella’s Breakfast which is located nearby in Banner Elk. This is cute little place to visit for breakfast. My wife ordered the waffle with apples and bacon and a side of cheese grits. She said the waffle was very good. I ordered the Bella’s 2 egg plate. This turned out to be a lot of food. It came with 2 eggs, but they were very fluffy so it seemed like way more than 2 eggs. The meal also included 2 sausage patties, home fries and a biscuit. It was all very good, in addition the staff was friendly and the prices were good, especially for the amount of food they give you. Definitely give this place a try.

(My family didn't stay at the hotel, this is a review of the winery only) My family and I just went to the vineyard for the wine. It was wonderful. An extraordinary experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The wine, especially the Blueberry, was spectacular. The souvenirs were reasonably priced. I will definitely go again.

The atmosphere was great, the wine was wonderful and the staff was fantastic. The staff here was great about allowing us to taste different wines in order to decide which ones we wanted to buy. They were friendly and knowledgeable. There was live music and plenty of shade for those who wanted it. This place is truly lovely. Don’t miss it if you’re near Banner Elk and enjoy wine. We didn’t stay at the inn so I have no knowledge of that, but I will definitely return to this winery if I’m in the area again.

Banner Elk Winery is absolutely beautiful! The atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming, surrounded by stunning mountain views that make you want to stay all afternoon. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the wine selection is amazing, every pour has its own unique flavor and charm. I especially enjoyed relaxing by the window, sipping wine, and taking in the scenery. Whether you’re a wine lover or just looking for a relaxing getaway, this place is a must-visit in the High Country!

Overall, this was a nice spot. Lots of seating outside, and beautiful scenery as you sip your wine and relax. We didn't end up buying a bottle, but we enjoyed our flight!

Such a wonderful Vineyard - you can even stay in one of the glamping tents on property! Quiet and beautiful with live music on the weekends. They have charcuterie, breads, and snacks or bring your own and enjoy a sangria / glass of wine. Great place to visit and relax!
Taylor R — Google review
The ambiance of the winery is great and it’s a beautiful setting, but honestly, the wines are atrocious. I had a flight, and each one was worse than the last. The white wines were less offensive, so stick with those. I really wanted to like it more, but these are just not good wines.

If you’re in the Banner Elk area and it’s a nice day, you need to visit Banner Elk Winery. A bottle of wine, a baguette, a beautiful view, and friendly service … perfect way to spend an afternoon (and it’s dog friendly)! We’ve tried a few and we’re partial to the Banner Elk White, but you be the judge.

Friendly Service and a beautiful facility. We didn't care for any of the wines, and my sangria was down right bland. It was still nice to sit out.

Dunn's Deli is a charming eatery located in the heart of Banner Elk, offering a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The deli serves as an ideal spot for grabbing a quick breakfast or enjoying a leisurely meal. Visitors highly recommend stopping by for their delicious breakfast sandwiches, such as the bagel sandwich with bacon and the loaded croissant sandwich. Additionally, the menu features options like chicken walnut salad and adult grilled cheese, all at great prices and generous portions.
We were just strolling around Banner Elk and decided to give this place a try. Most the other food joints seemed more tailored to fancy skiing types. Very glad we picked this place because it felt authentic and the food was delicious. I got the special of the day, a pimento cheese party melt and loved it. Pretty dingy inside, but not awful. Staff was very friendly. Parking was mostly off-street.
Matt A — Google review
I tried the chicken walnut salad and my son had the adult grilled cheese. Prices were great, quantity was good, food was delicious. If you’re expecting some pristine place with a 100% sanitation score then keep looking. I love places like this with character and soul. The staff was friendly, and service was quick. I’d ignore the lady that gave the one star rating, she obviously was expecting something different.

Highly recommend you plan to eat or grab a beer here if you’re coming to Banner Elk! Stopped by Dunn’s Deli for a quick breakfast on our way out of town. It happened to be St. Paddy’s day and this is the perfect spot to come on this holiday! Had an amazing bagel sandwich with bacon pictured below and a loaded croissant sandwich which I devoured before I could get a picture! Both sandwiches were perfectly hot and delicious! Best breakfast sandwiches we’ve ever had! The croissant was so flaky and buttery and was pressed perfectly and the bagel was so fresh! I only wish we’d stopped here before we were leaving!! We will def come back and highly recommend Dunn’s Deli!

My sandwich was good. Croissant was fresh and Boars Head ham was good. Lettuce was not as fresh as I prefer. The interior could use some attention and cleaning. I like to check the sanitation grade and could not find theirs. If more attention was given cleanliness this would be a 5 star local joint.
Sherri B — Google review
I just ordered the tomato bisque soup which was incredible but it was about 20 minutes to closing time and the employee was very polite but was clearly very ready for the work day to be over. I would for sure come again to try a hot sandwich when they have more time.

Town Tavern of Banner Elk is a laid-back pub with a great selection of craft beers, making it the perfect spot for beer enthusiasts. The friendly bartenders and excellent wait staff contribute to the welcoming atmosphere. The food menu offers delicious options like the Volcano Burger and Trash Can Nachos, ensuring a satisfying dining experience. While they are still working out some kinks, the overall experience is promising and worth a visit for those in the area.
Town Tavern was great! We ate here twice during our ski trip. The French dip and buffalo chicken sandwich were delicious. Stay was very friendly too. We will definitely make this a regular stop on future visits to Banner Elk.

Been here twice in the past couple of months. Everyone I’ve met on staff is very friendly. But the actual service is very mediocre in my experience. Little things like ask for a side of branch with your homemade chips. Get the chips not the ranch. ask again like you haven’t asked before. You may get it the next time the wait person stops by or you may have to ask a third time. The food is OK seems like regular bar fair. Of the four entrées we’ve ordered. None came out exactly how they should. Homemade chips extremely undercooked onions on items when you requested no onions, things like that. one order in particular I don’t want to talk about, but I’m glad my wife stirred up the artichoke dip before we dug in. Something went very wrong in the kitchen on that one. On the upside, extremely dog friendly, great location in Banner Elk, pretty good beer selection.
Greg T — Google review
We all enjoyed our food and service was great. Ate fishy & chips, chicken fingers, teriyaki chicken salad and a blackened chicken sandwich. The only complaint is that the "not live" music was too loud at 11:30 in the morning, for conversational talk. They did turn it down some, which helped a lot. Great park to walk right behind and on side. We'll definitely go back when in the area.
Debbie — Google review
This is a great place to watch a game! They have 18 TVs. They had live music. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun. The roadhouse nachos are excellent. The wings are very good and they have a large selection of sauces for the wings. There is a good selection of beer on tap. We ate at the bar so we could watch a football game and the service was excellent.

All the food we got was delicious, bone-in wings, sweet potato waffle fries. Bourbon burger, onion rings. The drinks were tasty. The staff was very friendly.
Megan O — Google review
So I ordered two sandwiches to go. Blackened chicken sandwich was okay. The Reuben was the worst I’ve ever had in my life. My sandwich had enough corn beef to maybe cover two saltines. Little kraut, sauce or cheese. On top of that they forgot my order and I had to check on it. The help said it was just sitting back there and they forgot. Unbelievable
Chris — Google review
I have been to this place a couple of times, and each time I have been greeted with nothing but kindness and delicious food. Alex and Zack, sorry if I misspelled either one of their names, were delightful and gave some of the best service I have had. I have never had a negative experience here, and I am glad we have places like this around. The sweet potato fries in particular are some of the best around. I look forward to seeing them all again!

This place goes more downhill every time we visit. Please hire a better kitchen manager/cooks. The artichoke was beyond greasy. Not edible. Cold onion rings and fries. Food doesn’t come out like it’s ordered. Once enjoyed eating at the one in Blowing Rock but the one in Banner Elk is bad. Good place for a drink is about all. Clean the bathrooms and the floors. Please do better. We love to support local.

Tate-Evans Park is a beautifully maintained town park that serves as a vibrant festival venue, perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. With two playgrounds catering to both toddlers and older kids, it’s an ideal spot for little ones to play. The park also features paddling pools, a volleyball court, and scenic walking trails that meander alongside a charming creek—perfect for cooling off on warm days.
So the park was affected by the hurricane damage in 2024 but is slowly getting cleaned up for full use. We were able to use the paved walking path with some water and little bit of mud here and there. The playgrounds were all closed off and in the works getting cleaned out to be able to refresh the mulch around them. Good place to walk if the hiking trails are muddy or closed.

We were surprised by this great park in the small town of Banner Elk. I was impressed with the terraced lawn in front of the stage where we enjoyed free music in the park on a Thursday evening. Perfect for setting up folding chairs or a blanket.

Really nice park: short, paved walking trails around a well manicured park. Several playground areas and open fields to play. There are several covered pavilions, a pair with water & restrooms. There is even a dedicated dog park and amphitheater!

Scenic, streamside park with plenty of improved (paved) walking trails. Great place to take a quiet scenic walk, picnic, birdwatching, or enjoy the serenity of the babbling stream. The kids love the playground area.

This park was pretty peaceful. Not exactly what we were looking for as it is in the middle of town and we wanted someplace a little more secluded to rest while traveling. Seemed to be a nice park for dogs. Shout out to the 2 people that find my husband's phone and reached out to let us know. Can't remember the gentleman's name but Lauren the young lady that held on to it for 45 mins for us until we got back there was awesome. Hope she went to see the String Cheese Incident that night it was an awesome show.

This was such a treat for my family! We were walking through town and stumbled along the Greenway which had a wonderful playground, a dog park, and a long trail for walking or bike riding. The trail is scenic and full of glistening twinkle lights that make it feel almost magical at night. Great place for a picnic, or even events such as weddings or performances because of the outdoor stage and seating. Reccomended to check out if you are in the area!

So we stopped for a potty break as we toured the area for future visits. This community park was beautiful. A small amphitheater, walking trails, and a large playground for the littles to get rid of some energy! Lovely water view as a stream runs through, probably large enough to do some light fishing. Picnic tables and shade to rest or meet up the friends for some cards or domino's! Dog friendly and clean!

This is a very well maintained park that's great for little kids and big kids. There's a separate playground for toddlers and small children. A walking trail, clean(ish) restrooms, picnic tables. The bridge across the little creek to the playground area is really pretty and you can even put your feet in there to cool off if you need to. We've been several times and our 2 year old loves it. It's also dog friendly.

This is the best restaurant in the High Country. Always such a delightful experience with the most friendly and welcoming owners and staff. The food is always amazing. The shrimp and grits are my the best I have had away from the coast, the crab cake and the sticky toffee pudding are perfect. The atmosphere is so unique with a personal touch on each table. I’d recommend LP to everyone!

Accommodating and friendly, we enjoyed our meals. I will say that I thought the chicken was way overpriced for one small chicken thigh. And the overall vibe was trying too hard to be upscale to match their prices without really offering upscale food.

Beautiful restaurant, great location, polite & lovely hostess/manager. Great drink menu. We were in Banner Elk on Saturday and decided to try LP on Main. I wish I had realized that the restaurant has “no modification” strict guideline. I ordered a salad and asked if I could have the dressing on the side and another person in our party asked if he could have the Bison burger without pickles- both request were met with a “no modification” rule. I am fine with whatever a restaurant wants to implement, but If I had known I would have chosen another restaurant. We have enjoyed every restaurant we have eaten at in Banner Elk and I was hoping to enjoy LP, I am glad I tried LP - and that I am aware of their policies. I can make an informed decision before I decide to eat there again.

Amazing service!!! We made a reservation weeks in advance. But, canceled last minute because we were staying at the top of beech mountain and I overreacted with anxiety about the drive back up. We ended up just walking in hoping to still get a table. The hostess handled my blunder so graciously! We had a to wait a bit, but it was SO worth it. The yellowfin tuna and ribs were big standouts. Monica’s wine recommendation was on the nose. It’s a bit loud inside, but it won’t take long for the food to down everything else out.

Service was excellent, food was tasty and their drink/wine list is extensive. We made reservations for Saturday night and their small parking lot was full. We found parking on the otherside of the street and walked over.

In a word, “underwhelming.” Our primary home is in Asheville where there are a multitude of fantastic restaurants, so maybe our expectations are high. We bought a second home at Beech Mountain a couple of months ago, and we’re trying restaurants in the Beech Mountain/Banner Elk area looking for one that really stands out. We thought LP on Main might be it … but it wasn’t. On the plus side, they have a nice porch that accommodates dogs. We were seated right on time … and then no one came back to the table for 20 minutes to see if we wanted anything. They gave us food menus, but no drink menus, so when the server finally asked if we wanted drinks we ordered blind rather than risking another long wait. I had the short rib and my wife had the salmon. Both were good, but if you’re hungry you’ll still be hungry after you eat. My wife asked if we could order some bread … and there’s no bread. We would have had another round of drinks during dinner, but no one asked if we wanted anything from the time our meals arrived until the server cleared the table and asked if we wanted dessert. The highlight was the sticky toffee pudding … quite good. LP on Main has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, tonight it was underwhelming.

Had a lovely experience here celebrating a dear sister. The staff here were all really friendly! Everything we ordered from the starters (fried oysters, crab cakes, octopus, soup) to the entrees (scallops, salmon, beef short ribs), and even the dessert were excellent! They even have a long list of wines to select from. We would definitely recommend anyone to visit for a delightful meal!

Fantastic experience!!! A party of 6 all with varying food palettes and some very picky eaters and we all 6 cleaned our plates! The service was fantastic and the waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu. Would highly recommend as this was an exceptional experience!! Wish I lived close, I would go here on the regular. Highly Recommend!!

This is the best snowboard shop i have ever been to. Massive selection, always great staff, and none of the corporate nonsense. This place always feels like home. I have bought 3+ boards and countless other items here. They ALWAYS take care of their customers. Much love to Edge of the World. Merry Christmas!

Awesome snowboard shop, they have a great selection of boards with everything ranging from your soft beginner boards to high end advanced rider boards, the staff have been super helpful in getting me set up in the past and their full back shop have gave my nearly totaled boards a new life and allowed me to keep riding them. Amazing shop all around 100% recommend!

Been stopping by this shop for 10+yrs. They have a lil bit of everything. In the past they have always been sooo attentive and helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the other day I visited I can't say the same. Everyone's been affected by covid but this shouldn't affect customer service... They will help ya pick gear and they know their stuff. You can even rent demo boards. They've helped me setup my board in the past too. Most of their stuff is pretty good quality.
Steph R — Google review
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They answered all my questions regarding snowboarding and places to go. Great prices. They even helped me to set up bindings to my boards and also helped me to pick up the right snowboard boots that fit perfectly to my feet. I would have made a big mistake if I had bought them online. I highly recommend EDGE OF THE WORLD to everyone looking for outdoors adventures. I definitely will come back for future purchases. Thank you very much Adam and other team members!

Awesome staff, super helpful. I was late returning a demo (rental) board and I called and the manager stayed over an hour after close to wait for me. Also had them pick out a curve ball board for me to try out and It turned out to be a fantastic suggestion and I'm going to purchase one.

I’m new to snowboarding and have used rental equipment. Went to Edge of the World to purchase my snowboard. Arrived at around 11am on a Saturday. Matt helped me. He is so knowledgeable! He had great advice on the equipment that would work best for me. Matt set me up with a board, bindings, boots, helmet and goggles. The shop was busy but I never felt rushed or pressured. I feel very confident that Matt put me in the best equipment for me.

Passing through Banner Elk. We stopped in for a pint. Very nice setup. Good beer selection. Kate the manager was our server. I should have done a taster of my blond ale as I did not know it was a strawberry ale. Jo got a Belgian flavored Kolsch. Very chill place. We parked for lunch across the street from the cafe and left our car and walked a few minutes to this place. If passing through Banner Elk, stop here for a pint.

2022 update. Still a great place to stop in for a beer or cider. Helpful FYI: they have more parking in the back. Finally got to check out Blind Elk. I loved it. Beer on tap doesn’t do it for me but they have amazing Prosecco! I did try the beer we ordered and it was light & refreshing. Definitely gets busy after 4pm but in a fun way. Glad they are in the neighborhood.

Stopped in for a pint while in the area. Nice space, with a good sized bar, lot's of TV'S with sports if that's your thing. They have lounge upstairs and a small outdoor seating area out back. Nice beer selection with lots of local options, wine and NA drinks. There is parking out front or use one of the free near by city lots. Friendly service and dogs are welcomed.

Cuban restaurant
Bodegas Kitchen and Wine Bar in Banner Elk is a beloved restaurant known for its delicious menu and fresh-made margaritas. The staff, led by Paul, provides exceptional service that makes patrons feel like family. The back patio is a favorite feature, perfect for hosting events like wedding receptions. While the service may be slow at times, the food more than makes up for it with generous portions of delicious dishes such as Cuban sandwiches, street corn, and black bean soup.
We both ordered the Cubans, one with street corn, one with fries. The Cuban was beautiful. The pork was just slightly over cooked but absolutely delicious. Not an overbearing amount of pickles and mustard combined with some good quality ham. The sandwich was delicious! The fries were hot, crispy, and properly salted. The street corn was bright, fresh, and flavorful.

This was my first visit to Bodega kitchen. The smell when you walk in is divine. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked with toilet paper. Service was friendly but very slow. Lunch took about an hour. We sat for about 20 minutes before our order was taken. The server did apologize and comped our black bean soup. We also had the vegetable bowl and southwest salad with grilled shrimp. All of the food was delicious. The black bean soup was a generous portion and very good! Both of our main meals were enough food but seemed a small portion for the price. My husband got the beer on tap and he really enjoyed it. With tip our bill was a little over $50. One other little thing is that they use these small glasses for water. Overall will visit again because I hope the slow service was an anomaly.

Had a nice lunch on the back porch after morning golf. Heaters were very close proximity as it was chilly with a breeze. Owners had the foresight to hang wind blocks so it was very pleasant. Empanadas were excellent. Came out hot as were the yucca fries. Great garlic dipping sauce! Really enjoyed our Cuban sandwich.

Loved the food and service here! Our server Leslie was amazing and super helpful. We tried almost every taco on the menu (don't worry, they're small). Phenomenal food, drinks, and service. Definitely will make a stop back through if we're ever back in the area.

4.5 / 5 The service was amazing! Rachel was warm, funny and engaging. We had the crab and corn soup, empanadas, chicken fricassee and the Cuban. The roast pork was spot on. The only disappointment was one of the taps being down. The menu changes regularly and it all looks great - we'll definitely be back.

Really enjoyed dinner here. It happened to be Taco Tuesday where all the tacos are $1 off. I tried 4 different ones and they were all tasty. I ordered the Manzanita to drink which was excellent as well. Highly recommend a meal or two here. Pricing was good for the quality of food you get. Nice decor and atmosphere inside. Friendly staff!

A very overdue review of our favorite restaurant in Banner Elk! Everything on the menu is delicious and the fresh made margaritas are a must. Paul and his staff always treat us like family and we can’t wait to come back every time. Paul was nice enough to let us celebrate our wedding reception on the back patio, which is our favorite feature of the restaurant. We had an absolute blast and all of our guests loved it. We’re constantly recommending Bodega’s to friends and family that visit the area. Cheers

My wife and I have been visiting Beech Mountian for several years and on our most recent trip we stumbled upon Bodegas. Being from Tampa I have high expectations for Cuban food and was not disappointed. The Cuban food was excellent with a very authentic taste. They also have some dishes with an Asian influence, I tried the tai chicken soup that was on special and really enjoyed it. We also had some rangoons that were filled with guava and cream cheese, blending the Asian fried treat with one of my favorite Cuban food snacks and it really worked. The owners and staff were friendly and we had an overall great experience and can’t wait to go back.

Kettle is one of our favorite spots to visit in Banner Elk! Everyone is so kind and friendly; they make you feel like family. We love that they have coloring books and games for kids and there are plenty of TVs and great food and drinks to keep everybody happy. Also, the pizza is delicious, especially with their ranch! I also really appreciate that they sell non-alcoholic canned options (soda, lemonade, etc.).

Hidden gem! We stopped in on a rainy day, the bartender was very friendly and let us sample a few beers before purchasing. They had so many wonderful beers to choose from, one of the best craft breweries, we've been to in a while. We enjoyed the laid back vibes, live music, and the assortment of games/cards offered. Pretzel was delicious! We can't wait to come back try their Oktoberfest!

My wife & I have decided Kettell has amongst the best pizza we've had anywhere. In addition the service is excellent, and they always have a fine selection of their own beers and ales. Most recently I had their Velvet Panda Oatmeal Stout - excellent!

Incredibly kind service from the bartender. Beers were great. Offered flights so I was easily able to try all four. The melon kolsch was my favorite and I’ve definitely never had a beer like it before. They had a small food menu that offered some quick bar food that looked quite good though my party did not try any of it. They had a small game room in the back and provided a couple table games for quests to play while in the restaurant. Definitely worth a visit.

Dropped in on a rainy day with kids and have no complaints. Games in the back for them. Nice atmosphere. Grabbed a flight and sat to look at the brewing area. Mark has many of his recipes dialed in with great water chemistry. As far as bartender, he was as knowledgeable as he could be and my kids gave him no reason to correct their behavior as some previous reviewers have noted. Maybe I was paying attention to mine 😉

Beautiful campus. Of ,for, in the mountains is a perfect description. Such great history. Having students bring rocks from their home state and built three buildings in the beginning of it history is amazing. The tie into the churches, and locale is breath taking. Our experience at Sorrentos over the past few months has significantly deteriorated. Our experience tonight (8/2) is an apt example. We sat at the bar Saturday at about 6pm for a bottle of wine and a pizza. The server behind the bar took our wine order, put two glasses out and the bottle of white wine and then turned to take a phone order. She stayed on the phone for at least 5 minutes. She then moved on to other tasks, including serving another couple at the bar for at least 10 minutes. So we opened the wine (screw cap) and served ourselves. After a few more minutes we intercepted her to order our pizza. The pizza was delivered in an appropriate amount of time and was the usual tasty pizza. But we were not offered the customary garlic bread, were not offered a cooler for the wine, heard no acknowledgement for the substandard service and were not thanked for our patronage when we left. We have been regular customers at Sorrentos but tonight may have convinced us to no longer eat there. The quality of service has deteriorated significantly.

Decided to try Primo since it use to be Barra (sports bar). So glad we did. We loved our meal & evening here. Drinks were amazing. Our waiter was attentive & friendly. Loved the chandeliers. The salad we shared was a great size & delicious. The garlic knots are addictive! Our meals were delicious. Even had dessert - tiramisu was perfect. We are thinking that we will dine here way more often than when it was Barra.

I can’t say enough how much I enjoyed The Village of Banner Elk experience this past weekend! A destination girl’s weekend birthday celebration was highlighted with impeccable dining at Sorrentos Italian Bistro and Prime 21 Steakhouse. The cuisine was top notch and I was impressed with the generous portion size of each exquisite meal. Saturday night at the Bayou was unforgettable; from a comfortable outdoor setting featuring live music to handcrafted cocktails. Our experience at The Village continued when we were immersed with an interactive DJ and dance experience at Prime 21 Steakhouse (beginning at 10 pm); comparable to my younger days in clubs in DC and Chicago! If you’ve been craving a getaway that features beautiful mountain scenery, exquisite cuisine, and unforgettable memories, I highly recommend The Village at Banner Elk to check all of your boxes!

We arrived in Banner Elk late and in the middle of snow coming down in April. Every place was pretty much closed except the bar part of this restaurant. The manager on duty was very accommodating and opened up a spot in the closed dining section, after we realized the bar was playing really loud (but good music). We love music but after a long day of driving we were just tired and wanted to relax. Definitely sounded like a fun place if you were wanting to go hang out at night. The whole place was decorated really nice with beautiful paintings, especially the dining area. I felt bad that they opened up a table just for us but the staff never once made us feel like we were a bother. Our waitress, Jordan Y., was excellent and very personable. She was younger but very professional and a joy to talk with while we enjoyed our delicious meal. My husband had the Veal Parm and I enjoyed the crab cakes. Both were great and we were so thankful for being able to eat a wonderful meal so last minute and late. Would highly recommend!

We went trout fishing here somewhat recently. It was fun and we caught our limits. Most of the fish were small but my husband did catch one 18” brown trout! We saw quite a bit of wildlife, including a gigantic snapping turtle, ducks, and a beaver from a distance. We did get checked by a game warden, or maybe technically the school’s security, for our fishing licenses.

Great little place with some very interesting plants. Wonderful knowledgeable staff that help not getting the wrong plants for our area. I highly recommend.
Duane E — Google review
For a seemingly small nursery, I was amazed at the many, many, diverse varieties. From fruit trees, to dwarf conifers, deer resistant plants, to many, many varieties of perennials and annuals. The place is really cute, and the staff I spoke with was knowledgable, kind, and did not hover over me while I was shopping. The access, egress is not easy, but well worth it! I found a homegrown blue Concolor Fir with so much character, I just had to find room for it in my over packed car, and find a new home for it in Ohio! If I had room, I would have also taken with me a Strawberry Vanilla Hydrangea Tree form as well, such beauties they are. I definately will return next time I am in the area!!!

Green Mountain Creek Falls

Scenic spot
It's a nice small waterfall on the side of the road. Only 15 min from Blowing Rock. Nice place to stop in winter when is frozen.
Mailyn G — Google review
The small waterfall off Highway 221 near Blowing Rock is called Green Mountain Creek Falls. It's located about 8 miles from Main Street in Blowing Rock, and it's known for its picturesque, nearly 20-foot drop and shallow plunge pool. There is a gravel pull-off just south of the falls just big enough where you can park and get a closer look...but be careful you're on a curve in the road. We also saw a deer! 🦌
Ron L — Google review
Such a wonderful waterfall! It's certainly on the small side but it looks beautiful! Located on the Watauga side of the Watauga County / Caldwell County border on US-221, definitely pull over and take a peek! Given the narrow road, parking is of course pretty limited, but odds are you'll have enough room to pull over and admire the falls!
Beastlycharizard13 — Google review
Small pull off to park in and then a 100ft walk onto the other side of the street. Very pretty and a nice stop in our drive to other hikes.
Danielle H — Google review
Don't blink or you might miss it. Small waterfall On Side of the Road. No parking. Small pull off area on the side of the road. Watch out for oncoming traffic. Not a destination waterfall.
Kathy B — Google review
There is a gravel turn / pull off across the road from the falls for parking. Beautiful and RIGHT on the side of the road, no walk required.
Agatha L — Google review
This is a beautiful small waterfall easily accessible at the road side. For those that want to see a beautiful waterfall without the hike this is a great choice! It is also a beautiful scenic ride to get to it which is a plus!
Tammy — Google review
Really beautiful but there is no hike it’s literally side of the road. Very little parking just a small pull off. There’s a tunnel under the road which is pretty cool.

Vietnamese restaurant
Cam Ranh Bay, previously known as Tokyo Express, is a top dining spot in Banner Elk offering a diverse selection of Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine. The restaurant prides itself on using high-quality ingredients to create flavorful dishes such as noodles, soups, spring rolls, lettuce wraps, hibachi, and teriyaki specialties. Visitors can expect an exceptional dining experience with fresh sushi options like the sunrise sushi boat and delectable chicken wings served with rice.
The food was so good! We had the sunrise sushi boat and the chicken wings with rice. The ginger dressing was some of the best I have ever had. The sushi was fresh, and the wings were super spicy. The service was amazing! Went back the last time we were at Beech Mtn, and again, the food was amazing. The Pho was soooo good and, of course, the best ginger dressing I have ever had. We got sushi again and again, amazing. No change. The food is still amazing. We had the Pho and steak, chicken, and shrimp hibachi.

Smaller seating, tight around tables. Service was good. Food was good. Loved the price! Okay portion. The pho was great! Better with the chili oil. Spring was okay.

On our roadtrip, I was overjoyed to know there is a Vietnamese restaurant serving traditional home-style comfort food up in the midst of the mountainous area of Banner Elk. My friend and her family and my family came here for lunch. It was my treat to our group and I called minutes ahead upon our arrival time to make sure food would be ready without having to wait since we were on a schedule. I ordered the following: 1. Vietnamese traditional seafood sweet and sour tamarind soup served as hot pot style (lầu canh chua hải sản). The soup flavoring has a balance savory, sweet, sour flavor with the aromatic rice paddy herb, with pineapple, tomatoes, onions, swai, shrimp, thick tender calamari rings, and thin sliced beef which kinda threw me off a bit. But it was all delicious. I highly recommend this to my Vietnamese foodies visiting this restaurant. 2. Bún tôm thịt nướng / Charbroiled grilled sliced pork and shrimp served with thin vermicelli rice noodles, shredded lettuces and carrots, drizzled with a sweet and sour fish sauce was well liked my group. I recommend this dish as well. 3. Stir fry spicy lemongrass chicken with vegetables served with steamed rice was liked by the American guy that came with the group. 4. Charbroiled grilled pork chop with steamed rice, pickled carrots and daikons, fresh cucumbers and lettuce with sweet and sour fish sauce - that I do NOT recommend this if you prefer moist juicy tender flavorful lemongrass porkchops like I do. This place makes their porkchop so dry, lean, and very bland. 5. Ginger tea was warm and satisfying to the chilly weather. 6. Boba milk tea was liked by my daughter and me.

Good little restaurant for fried rice and sushi. Super Friendly waitress with prompt service. The sushi was good and fresh for the price. The Crab Rangoon was a little bit disappointing, breading was bit heavy with a heavy cream base. It did have better crab flavor than most I’ve had that have a cheesy flavor. Give it a try!

I love Asian food and have traveled all over Asia and have eaten in hundreds of Asian restaurants. When it comes to food this restaurant is killing it. Fresh, authentic, and just some of the best prepared and best tasting food you will get just about anywhere. The sushi maki/rolls came out tiny but perfect for the price and the taste of the 4 different rolls we received was surprisingly amazing. Kids tilapia panko was also phenomenal. The clear soup was perfect. The fish perfect. The fried rice, perfect. The carrots were incredible and homemade. The pad Thai was spot on. When you received a shrimp dish the shrimp were good sized and came tender and flavorful just like in Thailand. The Vietnamese dishes were heavenly. Perfectly cooked vermicelli. Salad with the freshest ingredients and basil. Fish sauce was also done just right. The meats perfectly barbecued and so flavorful and tender. Boba teas were very good. Try the Thai Boba but know it will be super sweet. I would move here just for this restaurant. Now service comes with a culture and language divide. For example they list a meat patty on the Vietnamese dishes which turned out to be I think pork satay on a stick which was homemade and incredible. The ambiance just does not do the food justice, so don't judge this book by its cover. The menu had so many great choices but we could not get them all. The Thai salads looked so good. I wanted to try their Singapore noodles. In fact I wanted to try so much but We just could not eat that much. If you are looking for an amazing meal, do not miss this restaurant.

Great Asian food! Had the pho and some sushi plus appetizers. All very tasty and great flavor. Highly recommend for the area. Chill atmosphere.

Quaint small town Japanese and Thai restaurant. In the context of location and it's surroundings, it is not bad. The restaurant itself is not modern or upscale. The seats are quite uncomfortable. There were few other patrons on a Saturday night at 830. Quality of food was ok for the level of establishment. I had the Pho and it was surprisingly good, although the broth was not clear and the sprouts were not fresh it still was rather good. Parking 10/10 Noise 6/10 food 5/10.

We went here because it was walking distance (across a road) from our hotel, the Best Western. In a nutshell, the food was very good, but the service was meh. No smiles, very little talking, no welcoming etc. But, again, the food was very good, so I'd go again for that! I did post photos of the menu as of 2/24/24, as we couldn't find any online.

Nestled in a charming spot, The Dog House Café is the perfect pit stop for anyone looking to refuel after an outdoor adventure. My husband and I stumbled upon this delightful café after a hike, and we were immediately welcomed by the friendly staff. We indulged in their delicious sandwiches—the Grandfather and Club—paired with fresh side salads that tasted like they were made just for us. The blood orange lemonade was a refreshing treat!
Owners are great and so nice. The food is amazing. They make everything fresh to order. Don’t tell my mom or grandma but it is the best chicken salad I’ve ever had. Plus it has the best coffee in Boone. Their desserts are evil. Stuff shouldn’t be that good.

Visited this cute cafe on our way back from Grandfather mountain and so glad we did. The cafe is spacious, clean and the decor is super cute. The owner is very sweet and kind. We loved their espresso blend and wanted to know where they source it from as we're building a home coffee station. She took time to give us all the information and gave us tips on building our coffee routine. We had a great conversation and she generously gave us a bag of coffee beans to try at home. We loved having an amazing lunch at the cafe.

Came here hoping for a coffee and a late lunch with my boyfriend but was immediately greeted with a weird attitude even though they closed at 3 and we got there at 2. Left while I was at the counter because the vibe inside was so horrible, maybe don’t look like you hate your life and job when you’re greeting customers in a shop that has none.
Amber — Google review
Quaint atmosphere but looks more like a good coffee shop. Do not expect this to be a hot dog house. Ordered a smash burger but this in NO WAY is a smash burger. Just an over cooked regular burger. The bun look to be brioche but fell apart like a potato bun. Also parts of it were hard and stale. I could not tell if the staff was overworked, understaffed or if he was just not there in his mind. Very short when spoken to. Some people had drinks brought to them other people he would yell at to come get their drinks from the countertop. Was not welcomed at the door. Didn't know if we should sit or wait. When we sat no one came had to ask if we should order at counter which promptly answered yes as if I was a bother. I will give this place one more shot as my parents have been here and said they enjoyed the breakfast. But if the breakfast is cooked anything like that burger.... It will be the last.

This place is so “dog gone” cute (pun intended)! The food was excellent. We had an unusual chick pea salad sandwich which was delicious as well as a salad & tea. The space was clean & felt inviting as well as fun! Great people & great food!

Adorable little cafe with really good food! My husband and I stopped in after a hike around 1:30pm on a Saturday. There was no wait. Both people we interacted with were super friendly and helpful. We both ordered sandwiches (the Grandfather and the Club — both were super good!!) and side salads. I also got a blood orange lemonade which was absolutely delicious. I was very impressed with the salads as it did not taste like bagged salad, you could tell it was freshly prepared. After eating our salads, we each only ate half of our sandwich because they were plenty large. We wanted to save room for a treat — I got some key lime dessert (super good!) and my husband got a blueberry pancake muffin. Bonus is we now have leftover sandwiches for later. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back when we are in the area!!

Had the EXACT same experience as “Amber” a month prior (go see her review- and his RUDE response). We walked in a little before 2pm and a rude man “greeted” us and had an attitude. I asked my husband to make sure I wasn’t being dramatic, and he said the same. Then we sat down and he yelled across the place that they were out of chicken salad and burgers. We really wanted burgers so we just left. Also will note only one other person in the place, which now did not surprise me. We went up the road to a barbecue place with the sweetest waitress.

We stopped in for lunch. They have great hamburgers! Very friendly folks run the place. Very nice atmosphere and very clean. Looks like they have great coffee based on the machinery, but I didn't try it.

Eat Crow is a cozy and delightful eatery that offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, pies, and frozen prepared entrees to take home. Visitors rave about the fresh and flavorful food, with standout items such as the trout entree, albacore tuna sandwich, ruben sandwich, and potato salad. The service is praised for being excellent and attentive. Additionally, the dessert selection has received high praise for its deliciousness and freshness. The chicken salad is highlighted as beautifully presented and delicious.
I love this place! The food is so fresh and flavorful. The trout entree is scrumptious, as is the albacore tuna sandwich. The ruben is also a favorite. But, my favourite item on the menu is the potato salad. I always get a few containers of it to take home. As for the service, it is excellent! I Don't know what these other people are talking about who left the owner bad reviews. She's very kind and nice, quite attentive and a very helpful person! Check out Eat Crow when you're in the area!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Eat Crow and amazing staff. We are from Charlotte and searched out desserts for our Labor Day wedding outside of Boone. Meryle was very easy to work with and helped us narrow down our selections as everything on the menu looked wonderful! Our guest raved all night about the dessert table filled with pecan pie, carrot cake, chocolate tarts, Victorian sponge cake and fruit galette's. All the pies were so fresh and meticulous. We have had lunch there a hand full of times and highly recommend the curry chicken sandwich. What a gem in the mountains! Thank you Again and Again!Nicki & Corey

Absolutely worth the wait for the days available. Unbelievable food. Chicken salad was beautifully presented and tasted just as awesome. Customer for every visit to the area.

We stopped off and picked up a sampling of their pies just before closing time. The staff was helpful and super nice! We got pieces of 5 different pies/ cakes and all were great. The bakewell and lemon tarts are bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious, my kids devoured the chocolate layer cake, and I cant wait for the coconut cream - which we were told was one of the best sellers. Great place for dessert, I guess we’ll have to try the rest of their food some time soon too!
Adam C — Google review
Such goodness, and you even feel good after eating it! Their food is so fresh and delicious, with plenty of healthy options. My favorite is their Oriental chicken salad, but always ask what the special is! And always make sure to save room for dessert. I've tried at least 8 of them, and most were outstanding. You can also get frozen premade meals and soups to take home which is nice. The prices I think are on the higher end, but you definitely are paying for high quality, freshly made food. Please support these fine people at Eat Crow!
Christina S — Google review
Very busy place for lunch! They appeared to be a bit short staffed but were handling things well. Very small, crowded dining area. Tables are a bit too to close together . My Crab Cake Salad was very different. I LOVED the crab cake but have mixed reviews on the salad itself. The Corn Chowder was delicious. Husband was not overly impressed with his choice but felt it was more his personal taste than the meal itself. Would definitely go back, but would try to get there before their busy time.
