What a wonderful place! Worth a stop for the little ones and for any gem/mineral/rock enthusiasts. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and we even got to learn about possums! There were no lines to get in and plenty of parking. Plus several things for the children to touch and explore in the show room. It's a small museum but worth the visit nonetheless and there are great gem mines nearby to continue the fun.

We have been here before. Be aware it is NOT open due to Helene. Much of the Blue Ridge Parkway is still closed. Even tho it is open near the museum- many of the sites say it is open. After finding a ranger station, I was told they are also on a hiring freeze due to government and may not open again. This is an amazing mineral museum. Too bad we can’t visit it. 😩
Susu P — Google review
We enjoyed our visit to the Museum of North Carolina Minerals—clear exhibits, helpful maps of the region’s geology, and a good primer before hitting local mines and sluices. It’s an easy, family-friendly stop with clean facilities and enough hands-on/interactive pieces to keep the visit engaging for 30–45 minutes. One disappointment: a couple of displays were missing during our visit (two minerals that were labeled on the wall were gone, with marks where they had been mounted). It looked like they’d been pulled off—possibly removed for maintenance or, worst case, taken. Either way, it breaks the flow of the exhibit and stands out in an otherwise well-done space.
Jonathan L — Google review
As of late April 2025 open again. Small museum about history of mining. Worth a stop but not a journey. Good restrooms. Chamber of Commerce desk not staffed when I was there, some brochures out. Museum staffed.
Charles G — Google review
Amazing small museum detailing the various minerals mined in the area. Its also a key visitor center on the blue ridge parkway if you are a NPS passport stamp collector. Surprisingly informative and scientifically accurate as well.
Howard G — Google review
We definitely enjoyed stopping here didn't know what to expect when we stopped but thoroughly enjoyed it this place it showcases all the minerals found in the area the museum has interactive displays and various facts about the areas historical importance of the mining industry to the local economy nice stop over you'll enjoy it
Lewis K — Google review
The Museum of North Carolina Minerals is near Spruce Pines, NC. It is on a section of the Blue Ridge Parkway that is currently open. This area has the most minerals and gems in the United States. Spruce Pines has the purest quartz in the world. The museum is free to visit. I had read it was a small museum but I don't agree with that. It is a good-sized museum with hands-on interactive exhibits. I don't typically excited over the hands-on stuff but I enjoyed seeing which mineral would produce the brightest light. The detailed displays go over mining in the area. Then you will learn about how minerals are identified and classified, processed and used in products. You will learn a lot here and there is a lot to read. Besides minerals, this location was an important stop for Revolutionary War fighters on their journey to the Battle of Kings Mountain. Make sure to check out the gift shop while there.

Free to stop and see, makes a fun little side quest. Lots of facts and information.

Gem Mountain Gemstone Mine, located at 13780 Highway 226 South in Spruce Pine, is a popular destination for gemstone mining and tours of the Aquamarine Mine. Visitors can enjoy the gemstone flume and explore the nearby Minerals of North Carolina Museum. The mine offers an exciting experience for families, with knowledgeable tour guides who provide valuable insights on where to find gems. Visitors are encouraged to bring a cooler with snacks and lunch to enjoy during their visit.
My husband booked the van ride to one of the mine sites for our family. We had a wonderful time and the day exceeded our expectations. Josh gave us a tour of Two Hoots as well, and he was very knowledgeable with the background of the area. We really enjoyed learning the history. I highly recommend making the trip. Edit: We found a lot of gems and I had one of the garnets cut and made into a necklace. It was WELL worth it!
Amanda L — Google review
What a fun and wonderful place! Me and my son and his father had such a great time at the flume mine and we got a great selection of really cool gemstones from our bucket! I can’t wait to come back and mine some more!
Spencer T — Google review
This place did not disappoint! We both got the family size 5 gallon bucket. We found so many pretty things! The people there are go nice and helpful. They help you identify what gems you have. They look totally different in the rough. If you’re thinking about it do it. It’s worth the money you spend for sure🤗
Deangela P — Google review
I went here with my brother, mom, and dad, and we all had an absolute blast! The tour guide that brought us, I wish I could remember his name but was amazing. He was digging and walking around with us, telling us what we had found and where to look and even giving out any cool gems he had found to everyone. You can bring a little cooler with some lunch and there are plenty of spots to have a nice little snack, brunch or lunch lol not only that but we found so many cool gems, aquamarine galore and much more. Also, the sights and history of the old mines were stunning and amazing to see and learn about in person. I would highly recommend bringing extra cold drinks and nice sturdy sneakers or hiking shoes, also if it's gunna be hot to wear light comfy clothing and a hat to protect your fave from the sun but still be able to see the good stuff! I would love to go back and get a just a bucket and go to the sluice and find some stuff that isn't local, but overall, I had such a great family time.
Taryn S — Google review
My son (6) absolutely loves panning for gems so when we were up in the area camping I knew we had to stop and check out this place. We got the 2 gallon mixed bucket and the number and quality of gems we found was so much better than the places we had gone in central North Carolina. We spent about 30-45 minutes working through our bucket and walked away with a ziplock stuffed full of gems. The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain the different gems to my son. We ended up with about a dozen good sized garnets, some nice quartz, adventurine, amazonite, amethyst, citrine, topaz and sodalite. I didn’t photograph it, but aside from the larger gems we also got a whole lot of smaller gems in different stones. Such a great family activity and the gift shop was also full of books on rocks and science which was nice.
Mollie T — Google review
I took my grandchildren, ages 8 & 11. They loved this place! I bought a bucket for them to share and they were happy with that. They found many more gem stones than I expected!
Kelly S — Google review
We went today and our family of three had a great time. It exceeded our expectations. Ms. Kay told us what we had gleaned from our bucket, and my wife purchased two cuts from what we found. Ms. Kay was super knowledgeable and nice. We’re excited to see how they turn out. Our son wants to go back again before our vacation is over.
Chris C — Google review
It was one of the best flume mining places I have ever been. It was a nice scenic drive there. Nice and quiet not to loud or busy. A great place to take the family. The pre-loaded buckets are really great and at a great price. The cutting services are phenomenal. The owner is very kind and helpful. The workers check on you to help if you need. You can buy all kinds of beautiful jewelry and lose raw and cut stones. And a lot of good gem books as well. It's a great place and I will definitely be coming back.

Park
Riverside Park, situated along the Toe River, offers a variety of activities for visitors. The park features a paved riverside walking trail, a spacious playground for children, and a baseball field. Additionally, there are numerous benches throughout the park where visitors can relax and enjoy the scenic views. Access to the Toe River provides opportunities for fly fishing in hatchery supported waters as well as launching kayaks and tubes for a leisurely float downstream.
If you're ever in Spruce Pine, NC you have to visit the Riverside Park! Great town, great park! I enjoyed walking across the bridge and watching the trout fishermen fish!
Ron L — Google review
Pretty, modern playground right next to the river and right off a walking trail. Walking distance from downtown, with a soft ball field and plenty of benches/picnic tables available. We love taking our toddlers here. The only minor complaint we have is that some of the equipment is starting to show it's age. Still a great place to bring kids and is one of the better parks we've seen in the area. Good selection of playground equipment for kids of all ages. Small stuff for toddlers, bigger stuff for kids and adults. Plenty of swing, bouncy rides, and climbing equipment (including a short rock wall). Play surface is a soft, deep bed of shredded tires. In the last year a splash pad and bathroom facility have been added. Great fun for toddlers! Parking is tight on mildly busy days.
Dan K — Google review
Beautiful little park to go for a walk by the river, if you have kids, there is a playground, public restrooms and plenty of parking
Fry G — Google review
Beautiful park set on the river. This quaint town exudes a charm that is refreshing. Definitely worth a casual stroll and savory solitude reflecting on this peaceful area.

Great little park with a trial that run s along river. Has playground and benches.
John L — Google review
They have fishing, a park, splash pad, multiple picnic areas(covered/uncovered), a bridge you can walk across.
Connor F — Google review
Nice park, the side facing the river needs to be trimmed and taken cared of better, you can barely see the river.
Joe N — Google review
Great park in a wonderful location. Enjoyed taking a rafting trip from there with Thrifty Adventures. If you have to use the bathroom in the park use the ones near the ball field or make note that the other restrooms do not lock and frequently leak.

Nestled in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, 'The Tropical Grill' offers a delightful culinary escape that you won't want to miss. First time coming here it’s a really nice adorable spot in small town of spruce pine. Food was delicious, owners so kind. This place deserves more attention food is so good had the Ropa Vieja and the Montego Bay jerk chicken with mango and slaw if you like spice the montego bay sandwich is amazing had my eyebrows sweating.

The place is quaint and small. Indoor seating is limited, but there is plenty of seating outdoors. They were super busy and short staffed the night we went so it took forever to get our orders placed. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The complimentary chips and salsa are great and came out with our appetizers. There is only one cook so the food also takes a while to get to your table. Patience is rewarded because the food is absolutely delicious. Be prepared to wait, but also plan on a great experience. Try the limeade and sweet plantains. You won’t regret it.
Jennifer K — Google review
This little place was amazing! We ordered the Jamaican jerk chicken and the Cuban steak sandwich. Both were delicious but, make sure you let them know how to cook the steak (Cuban steak sandwich) my husbands was a little redder than he’d like. We really didn’t think to mention it, as we have never seen one not fully cooked. Either way, the taste was on point.

I never would have guessed some of the best fish tacos I’d ever eat would be in the WNC mountains, but here we are! Awesome food, cute little place with a very friendly staff. Next time I’m in town, I know exactly where I’m going!

They cook and season a traditional tropi chop pork platter that is great, especially when compared to other restaurants. Their chips and salsa are fresh and good. Their walls display their brought in Central America accessories. Their Cuban on fresh pressed bread is something different and is another really good item, especially when comparing to other restaurants. They make a high quality Quattro Leche.

Visited DT's Blue Ridge Java Coffee Shop & Cafe during a brief hiking trip to Grassy Ridge. Wish there were more meals available to savor here. The person who took our order was exceptionally patient and kind. The coffee tasted amazing (and I'm particular about it), while the breakfast was truly delicious. The ambiance and layout of the place were very pleasant. Prices are reasonable for the high-quality offerings that exceeded my expectations.
Now open after complete devastation from Hurricane Helene. Great coffee. Great food. Great atmosphere. Amazing folks.

We ate at DT's Blue Ridge Java Coffee Shop & Cafe yesterday morning for breakfast. My family enjoyed everything about it so much the food, the atmosphere, the service. They asked if we could go back again today. So, we did. And, the cafe is consistent. Quality. We are likely to eat here again tomorrow. Great job DT.

Best ☕coffee shop and 🥖deli in Spruce Pine. I have been going there since they opened when I was in high school. Dave and Trish and now Taylor run an amazing business. Great 🍦 ice cream, sweets, coffees, lattes and deli sandwiches for 🍳🥞 breakfast, lunch and dinner. I love the milky way latte and the lower street wrap. They also have ♿ handicap accessible 🅿️ parking, seating, and 🚻 restrooms. The new location has more merch, more food items, more breakfast items, and a private meeting room.

Absolutely love the new location! Service was wonderful and they’re all so friendly - I even messed up my coffee order (it was definitely my fault) and they were so sweet about helping me fix and adjust it so I liked it again. I am so happy they’re operating again. Much love!

We visited the morning after the rural revival.. the town itself was still pretty busy. (And we had sometime to kill) The food was delicious, I enjoyed the bacon, egg and cheese of English muffin bread.. and my husband enjoyed the veggie spread on English muffin bread. Presentation of both was great. The coffee ordered was 2 Carmel latte’s, and there was tow pot of regular blend available for refills. What I loved more was in the restroom. See photo - the whole town has a “give back” attitude. I know they are rebuilding from the storms that affected the area.. But the whole town gave such great vibes.. KEEP IT UP SPRUCE PINES..

Excellent location with a variety of food for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Great selection of coffee. Their cold brew has floral notes, which some might enjoy. Excellent customer service with a friendly staff. Make sure to try their gluten-free peanut butter cookies! Delish!

Tucked away in the hills of North Carolina, this little hidden gem is worth the trip no matter where you’re coming from. The culinary craftsmanship here is exceptional—flavors are perfectly balanced and melt together beautifully. I ordered the Turkish eggs, and the chili oil was absolutely divine. Their French toast offering also looked inviting!!! Couldn’t resist taking home some cookies for later—equally delicious! Had I known they were going to be so incredible I definitely would’ve taken home more as I was driving from Kentucky to South Florida when I found this gem of a restaurant Also, if you try balancing a coin on the lemon, be careful it’s like playing the slot machine. You’ll wanna keep doing it over and over it. It’s addicting. !!

What a great place! We went for the Sunday brunch and had the Monte Cristo and the Turkish Breakfast. Both were excellent — see photo evidence! 🤣🤗. Get there early — this is an extremely popular place and everything is made to order — so be patient and understanding, it’ll be worth it!!! UPDATE: ordered the blueberry oat bar to go. It was delicious!!! No photo, disappeared before I could take a photo.

Came here this past Sunday, I think around noon time. I am not local, but was in the area overnight and googled the closest Cafe because I needed some quick energy for my drive home. The view from the front door was absolutely breathtaking. The weather had been drizzly and the fog rising from the mountain made the stop worth it before I even went in the door. I'm from the swampy part of the state near the coast, so I'm not used to mountain scenery. The store itself has a rustic but comfortable feel to it. They were also pretty packed. I ordered a large caramel latte and bagel with cream cheese to go. It was around $10. They have a menu with much more than that but I was in a hurry to hit the road. The bagel was - and I'm not exaggerating - the best bagel I've had in years. I don't know if it was toasted with the power of love, but it was delicious. The cream cheese-to-bread ratio was perfect. Not only that, but my latte was the best latte I've ever had. I didn't even know this was possible. It was so good it made me feel like I was cheating on my local coffee shop. My expectations weren't even high. I just wanted caffeine. But this place came through. I'm not exaggerating when I say I spent my 4 hour drive home kicking myself for not ordering a second latte for the trip or another bagel. It's been two days and I can't stop thinking about it. If you're in the area, this place is awesome. If I'm in the area again I would definitely go a little out of my way to stop by.

My daughter spilled her hot chocolate all over the sofa. They replaced it no charge and quickly cleaned up the sofa. Their beverages are freshly made and were loved by my family. Very friendly atmosphere. It is a Hidden Gem. Clean restrooms as well. I think I did see some stocked up diapers as well for parents. I would like to Thank Everyone on the team. This place is now a beautiful memory for my family.

City Drive-In, a dining establishment that has been in operation since 1950, is renowned as one of the top restaurants in Spruce Pine. It offers an array of delectable handmade burgers, hotdogs, and subs in a relaxed atmosphere. This establishment initially started as a drive-in but has recently expanded to include an indoor seating area with a small bar. The food served here is exceptional, and the service is commendable.
A real homey and warm atmosphere. You could either sit outside by a fire or indoors. It was to cold, so we sat inside. I noticed the bar had several local brews on tap. My wife had the Philly Cheese Chicken Sandwich with Hushpuppies and I had the Fish and Chips. The fish was fried perfectly, and the home fries were incredible. I was able to have some of my wife's Hushpuppies. They were incredible. We are definitely going back. They also have live music nights that we are interested in as well. I need to go back to sample the beer. If you are coming through or near Spruce Pine, you need to stop. Great food fairly priced. Enjoy!

It took us 15 minutes to place a call in order. Not 15 minutes wait before they took our, it took 15 minutes for her to enter our order into the system. We were told it would be a 30 min wait, which was fine with us. It actually took an hour. We were missing one entire dish which never made it onto the order and out of the 4 dishes we DID get only one was correct. To top it all off I found a hair in my take-out container. I'll have to be very hungry and very desperate to go back. *EDIT - I decided I'd give it another go, for lunch this time, as I was on this side of town and options are limited. Service was fast, food was really good. It's a drive-through connected to a bar. I've never eaten inside so can't comment on the atmosphere. My advice, if you get someone on the phone who sounds like they know what they're doing you're probably gonna get some pretty decent food. If you have issues with the phone person probably best to seek other options.

We waited atleast 45 minutes for two simple lunch orders. When they finally arrived they were cold and stale. There was one other table occupied while we waited so it wasn’t a busy time. Our empty cups sat with no refills during all the waiting. Really a disappointing experience for my first visit. Family that lives close by just raved about the place. I’d try it again but there are other places to try in the area.
Aimee H — Google review
Super friendly customer service, food was classic drive-in and pretty tasty. They had a long wait, but it's because they had a full house and live music. We enjoyed the music while we waited.
Jess S — Google review
We stopped here for lunch. I ordered the Fish and Chips. The fish was good, but the texture was a little off. That said, I ate it all. My main issue was with the lax smoking rules. There is an "outdoor" dining area. But it has walls, roof, and blinds covering the windows. Instead of walking all the way outside, staff smokes in the outdoor dining area. Huge turn-off for a non-smoker.
Stacy S — Google review
I’ve been eating here since I was a kid & even though I’ve since left the area, I always find myself coming back “home” for a cheeseburger all the way and a peanut butter milkshake! Also, the chuckwagon sandwich is an underrated gem. 10/10 would recommend!

I use to love this place, but for some reason recently the food has been not up to par. I got a taco salad, and I promise you guys it looks like taco salad soup. It’s almost like the queso dip is too wet and it’s soaking down everything making it utterly disgusting.

The accommodations offer comfort, and the breakfasts are delectable – particularly the pancake. Guests can also enjoy the entertaining lounge area where they can engage in games like billiards, darts, and Uno.
Hurricane did effect the place. But people came together to do the repairs. It’s was one of my most favorite places to stay. View is breathtaking. Restaurant and bar were great. Steve was friendly and accommodating!! I have no complaints. 110% would recommend!!!

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Skyline Village Inn. The manager, Todd, was super welcoming and helpful. He helped us find a nice hiking trail nearby at the Museum of NC Minerals, and recommended several places to eat which were excellent. The room was cozy, quiet and clean. The provided toiletries and food amenities were nice. The best part was the splendid balcony view of the valley below. Overall, a great value.

My husband and I only stayed for one night as a leg in our road trip, but we loved this place! The views are AMAZING!! We got held up by traffic and didn't arrive until after 6pm, but the owners were incredibly understanding and met us for a late check-in. The building is older, but they have done a terrific job modernizing the conveniences and the place is kept SPOTLESS. I'm pretty sure this is the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed at. Highly recommend, just make sure you plan to watch the sunrise from the balcony, it's breathtaking.
Jordan S — Google review
in my humble opinion, this is by far the best place I have stayed at in a while. The rooms were clean, and the hotel itself has a very rustic look to it, which I absolutely loved. But the one thing that sold me on this place was the incredible view from the balcony. The staff was incredible and Steve, the gentleman who checked me in, took the time to explain to me some of the history surrounding the place and as someone who loves history, I found that very interesting!
Scott G — Google review
The hotel is really nice and has a unique history. Older charm but updated nicely. The place is very clean. Only thing is I would have liked the bar to be open longer hours and more days. Also there was a late check in to the room next to us and they were extremely noisy slamming doors and walking loudly on the wood floors in the hotel till late at night. Its not the hotels fault at all, but people please be courteous when you stay there. The wood floors make your footsteps and door closing noisy. I'll definitely stay there again. The sunrise is amazing from the balcony.
Shane C — Google review
Very run down hotel and if you want a good nights sleep, this is not the place for you. The wood floors are extremely loud and the person above us would not sit down until late at night and started up again at 3am. We asked staff to handle it but they didn’t bother and when we approached the person ourselves, they yelled obscenities at us. We ended up packing our car and leaving before the sun came up. Look elsewhere, but If you do stay here, request a room on the top floor or you will regret it and try to avoid the classless guests. Does have very good views and is dog friendly, so that bumps them up to 2 stars.

Overall an excellent experience! Staff was awesome and very polite! The room was very clean and cute. Outstanding location also and motorcycle friendly with covered parking for bikes🏍! Will definitely be back!!

One of the loudest hotels I’ve ever experienced. No sleep the entire week Could hear everything going on in the rooms beside us. Footsteps the entire night and no one to keep the room up for the entire week were there. Definitely pretty view(if you get a decent room) but that’s the only thing this place has going for themselves Definitely won’t be returning

Mexican restaurant
Puerto Nuevo Mexican & Seafood Restaurant in Spruce Pine offers a modern and relaxed space to enjoy classic Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes, along with specialty margaritas and tequila. While some visitors found the atmosphere loud due to unruly children, others considered it a hidden gem with amazing food, great service, and affordable prices. The restaurant is praised for its bean dip served with chips instead of salsa and fresh guacamole.
Food was amazing! Service was stellar!! I asked for a customized order and they nailed it! I am visiting from out of town and this was such an amazing experience!

We were traveling through. Stopped in a whim, it will now be a destination! The food was amazing! There’s a cool salsa bar that you can help yourself to with the complimentary chips. Omgosh! That mango salsa is delish! So much so, that i bought a large container to take home!

2 miles off Blue Ridge Parkway Most beautiful food we ever eat. Any plates that passed our table looked so delicious. Warm chips and tasty bean/cheese dip. Also a salsa bar with many other types. The salmon salad was fantastic. Manager walks around checking on your satisfaction.

I want to thank this establishment for its incredible part in making our bachelorette trip so fun. First, the food and drinks are incredible and really reasonably priced. The wait staff were friendly and great, even when they were absolutely slammed. We had such a good experience during our first lunch visit that we came back twice in the 5 days we were in town. There is a 100% chance that I will come back to this restaurant next time I am in town. Puerto Nuevo rules.

Very good Mexican restaurant, it was nice and clean. We had good service and it was at a good price. I had the chicken and rice soup great on a cold day. Hubby had the chicken enchiladas plate which he said was great. Also they serve the thin crispy chips and bean dip which is awesome!

Springmaid Mountain Retreat & Stables is a secluded nature retreat located in the North Toe River area, offering simple mountain lodging and a range of outdoor activities. The 400-acre property features hiking trails, a fishing pond, and horseback riding facilities. Guests can enjoy a tranquil escape surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery all year round. The resort provides excellent amenities and is suitable for camping or renting cottages for families or groups.
Classic “off the beaten path” cabin. Disconnect and enjoy nature here. Cabins are clean, comfortable and well equipped. We love the “to ourselves” hiking trails that no other tourists use (not on maps), river tubing and horse rides. Can absolutely tell the genuine love for the horses and outdoors from the staff. Happy and well fed horses for all the activity they do, beautiful too! Thanks for a great stay! We’ll be back and will tell our friends. Also 8 min to downtown Spruce Pine for dining, shops, etc.

A great place to vacation in Western North Carolina. Nestled in the mountains with horseback riding, fishing, hiking and just plain ole relaxing! Cabins are nice and clean. Lots of other places to visit in the area. Hiking and waterfalls are close by.

This was mine and my husband’s first time visiting Springmaid Mountain Resort. We absolutely loved it. This area is so beautiful. We visited mid July and brought our truck camper and stayed in the campground area, while our family rented one of the cottages. We enjoyed the river and trails , but what really made the trip special, was my 75 year old mom going horse back riding for the very first time!! The staff were all very sweet and the environment is so peaceful. We will be back!! Thank you all for a wonderful stay!

This was an amazing place for a family gathering! We were about 35 people and the bunk house was perfect for us! It has a lovely big kitchen with all the right things to cook for a crowd. A nice place to hang out. Soft couches and a nice dining hall. We also rented a couple of very lovely cabins. It is such a quiet, beautiful place with porches to sit on and a river to fish in or float on. Very well taken care of. Thank you!

Our family planned our horseback riding excursion on our last day of our Blue Ridge Parkway trip. And it was such an incredible experience! Our excursion surpassed all our expectations from start to finish. The staff were exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do, they made us feel welcome and safe from the moment we arrived. The horses themselves were magnificent creatures, well cared for and gentle natured. It was clear they were well trained and in tuned with their riders making the ride smooth and enjoyable. Overall, our horse ride excursion at Springmaid mountain was a truly unforgettable adventure. Whether you're a seasoned equestrian or a first-time rider, I wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking a unique and soul-stirring connection with both nature and these magnificent animals.

My kids and I experienced an hour trail ride at Springmaid Mountain, and we could not have loved it more! The staff made us feel so comfortable and answered all of our riding questions with ease. The trail itself was absolutely STUNNING. We traveled through rivers, creeks, grassy meadows, and had mountain views. It was, by far, the most gorgeous trail ride that we've ever been on. The horses were sweet and well cared for. We were even able to feed them treats after our ride. My children (age 16 and 11) were thrilled and loved riding through the water. I would highly recommend for all ages!

Smithmore Castle is a stunning establishment that boasts awe-inspiring scenery. It comes highly recommended for those seeking a two-night getaway in order to fully indulge in the exceptional amenities it has to offer. Guests can partake in archery lessons provided by the knowledgeable and exceptional Chase. The meals, expertly prepared by Chef Benjamin, are not only beautifully presented but also executed with great skill, resulting in an extraordinary dining experience.
We booked our 21st anniversary stay at Smithmore Castle not really knowing what to expect—just going off glowing recommendations from friends and online reviews. Boy, are we glad we came. From the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into another world. You’re greeted by gentlemen in tailed tuxedos who open the grand doors with old-world poise. The tour begins with a guide who speaks in what can only be described as period-appropriate English—and for a moment, you think, Is this real? Then you meet the kitchen staff dressed in velvet and lace, everyone so polite, gentle, and sincere—it’s like being wrapped in a dream. Then came the food. Oh, the food. We met the Master of the Kitchen, Benjamin, whose culinary talents are surpassed only by his thoughtful, philosophical conversation. You start to realize that this place isn’t just beautiful—it’s meaningful. Smithmore doesn’t just mimic Victorian values, it lives them. The people here aren’t acting; they are the old ways. Thoughtful, courteous, reflective—it’s a slower, richer way of life. Our room? Absolutely stunning. The photos online don’t even come close to capturing how elegant and comfortable it truly is. We also got to enjoy the Coffee Tasting, and let me tell you, as a self-proclaimed coffee addict—it was next-level. Smooth, aromatic, complex—easily some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. We stayed two nights and even ran into young Master Carlyle in the courtyard playing with geese. Yes—geese! Just strolling around like they own the place. Oh, and goats too! Every corner of this estate reveals something magical. Smithmore is more than a getaway—it’s a restoration of the soul. We’ve already booked for next year. If you’re on the fence, trust us—go. Just go.

This is our fourth stay at Smithmore Castle - we loved it. The grounds were beautiful and very private and the castle decor made us feel like we had stepped back in time . Our room had a balcony and what a view, we were above the clouds! Then there’s the food, Chef Benjamin is amazing. Every dish was unique and delicious and too pretty to eat (but we managed)! The owner was on site during our stay and was so gracious and accommodating and castle staff responded to our every request. Thanks to everyone who made our trip unforgettable. We’ll be back!

Our summer stay at Smithmore Castle was magical. Surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, the estate radiates old-world charm. We stayed three nights and were treated like royalty—elegant rooms, world-class meals, and impeccable staff service. The castle tour was full of history, and meeting the family was a true highlight. A perfect blend of luxury and authenticity, we can’t wait to return!

Went on the Tuesday tour with 4 girlfriends. Then followed with a sit down lunch in the formal dining room. Chef Ben was our guide. He was knowledgeable, enlightening and quite entertaining with his sharp wit and charm. The meal salad was filled with crunchy fresh ingredients and topped with mouth watering chicken and a light delicious dressing. All served by Braddford the footman. He served us so well, and everyone had fun! The castle is so beautiful. I want to go back to spend the night and enjoy a full dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend.

No other word but superb! The staff and the dining experience exceeded any expectations. The Master Chef, Benjamin, simply no words to explain. His knowledge of fine dining and his knowledge of the castle will forever be engraved in my memory as well as the memory of my wife.

Me and our church group came out Tuesday for the tour at Smithmore Castle and I tell you what—it was worth every penny. We got to meet members of the Smithmore family themselves, and they treated us like kin. The Castle’s got a holy feel to it, with Gregorian chants playing in the background and not a thing feeling commercial or watered down. I love that it’s a private house with its own rules, real conservative values, and you can feel the peace all around. God surely dwells in that place.

The week of May 12 this year my wife and I had the privilege of spending a few days with friends living as the English aristocracy has lived for century’s. We were at the Smithmore Castle in Spruce Pine, N.C. The castle and surroundings provide a fresh, elegant and beautiful environment. The well trained staff go out of their way to make you comfortable and cared for. The food is prepared by a 5 star chef with each course being presented in a manner that tantalizes the appetite. All desiring to be pampered must spend time at Smithmore Castle. Larry Goodwin

Brewpub
The Bierdock Brewery is an impressive establishment with a rustic barn wood wall and a visible brewing area. The food served at the brewpub was enjoyable, and the ginger beer stood out as particularly pleasing. Located in a charming little town, this brewery offers a unique experience. However, some discrepancies were noted between the menu descriptions and the actual taste of the food.
Great new brewery in NC mountains. Tasty craft beers, some with European influences, excellent food menu too! I had wings and burger, both cooked perfect with quality ingredients. Very reasonable pricing. Good size taproom, music on weekends. Next time I’m in the area, will definitely be back. Oh, and friendly staff too!

We had some friends come and visit so we decided to take them out for lunch. We were so embarrassed by this place and found ourselves apologizing to our guests throughout the horrible experience, which was the only apologizing that was done as the staff didn’t apologize at all and seemed to act as though this was normal. We sat for over two hours after ordering our food. No one came to refill drinks. We didn’t order anything special or altered from what was on the menu. Hamburgers and pizza. When they did bring out the food, my 2 sons pizzas were burnt, one was black so we sent it back as inedible, after waiting two hours to eat and having his pizza come out like that, my sone was almost in tears. I didn’t think to take a photo of that one, but did take a photo of the lesser burnt one. Our friends were only visiting for a day after not seeing one another for over 10 years. This restaurant really ruined the whole day. We came for lunch and left after the evening entertainment band arrived and set up. Do not waste your time. This wasn’t a fluke as we had come here two years ago and the same thing happened, we waited more than an hour and a half, but just figured they had a bad day and thought we try again, it was a mistake. I am not sure what they were doing in the kitchen because when we arrived, there were no other customers and as we sat for the 2 hours, there were no other customers, at least within the first hour. The second hour one other couple came in, but they weren’t served while we were there either.

While camping and hiking near by we decided to take a break and look for local beer. We came across bierdock and thought the reviews seemed ok and worth a try. However we ordered a flight to try their beers and only found one out of the four we liked which was the dubbel. My friend had the same beer and shared the same thoughts. The Pilsner didn’t taste like any Pilsner I had but resembled oyster water in flavor. When asked the staff would not replace the beer with something else. It took roughly 15 mins to get our flights in a empty bar. Food took about the same maybe a little longer. I ordered wings and loaded fries. The fries were decent but wings were over cooked and had more sauce on the plate then the wings did. My friend had the pizza which was ok burnt crust and pipping hot. But was your average run of the mill pizza nothing special. Overall the seemingly timid staff would be way over their head if this place was busy. Definitely would give other places a shot if this isn’t your only option.

we ate lunch there today, food was great, svc was great, bavarian/german color scheme is great, we’ll definitely be back with friends next time. one recommendation: on a sunny day, from outside, the glass walls make the place look closed down; if not for the glowing “open” sign it wouldn’t look like the big inviting place that it is inside…maybe a more prominent open sign or set of “we’re open now” signs? i truly wish this place success! 😎

Really cool building, barn wood wall, open sight of brewing area. Food we had was good. Liked the ginger beer. Such a neat little town. Food tasted good but was not as described in the menu. Not what I call ground mustard, straight up French's yellow and not brioche buns on the sandwiches, plain hamburger buns. Out of the 11 taps, they were out of 4 or so including one of their own. I would go back if in the area.

A really nice addition to downtown Spruce Pine. This brewery and restaurant gets a lot of things right with only a few misteps. The customer service and wait staff are amazing and even when understaffed they deliver. They have decent 🍻 beers (I like the Belgian dubbel, the pilsner, and the double IPA). The also have decent food. I recommend sticking with sandwiches and appetizers. I liked the 🍔 burgers and 🐔 chicken sandwich along with the soft 🥨 pretzels. They also have ♿ handicap accessible parking, seating, and 🚻 restrooms.

I played 36 rounds on 6-6-23 at Grassy Creek Golf & Country Club in the North Carolina mountains. The course was well-maintained and in great shape. The staff, including the golf pro, were friendly and welcoming. I've been recommending this place to all my golfing buddies. The greens were fantastic, with a reasonable amount of rough and sand traps. The tee boxes were sometimes too close to the previous pins, which could be dangerous.
Pleased to see the restoration of Grassy Creek. From the food, to the course, to the decorations everything looks great. Thanks Derek and Erin for your hard work and dedication to making Mitchell County even better. We appreciate you!

Course is in great shape. Rough is rough so you need to keep it in the fairway. Nice outside socializing area and friendly staff. Early November is prime time for leaf change viewing. A must play course.

Since the new owners have taken over the whole place has improved dramatically! Full and healthy grass throughout the course. Super quick and small greens to challenge you. Excellent bunker sand and all water areas are aesthetically terrific now. Clubhouse remodel is beautiful. A+ course for the price now.

If you haven’t been to Grassy Creek in the last few months, you haven’t been to Grassy Creek. The new owners are in the process of revamping the entire course. From the white sand bunkers (the white sand Augusta uses comes from this county) to the gorgeous landscaping to the new restaurant, we are THRILLED to have our home course looking so good. It’s still the best value in this region and a fun yet challenging course.
Johnsonp — Google review
While the course conditions and layout are nice there are many negatives and better places to spend $75 on a Saturday. Pace of play was ridiculous. Took an hour to get through 3 holes. No rangers anywhere. Tee times packed in 6 minutes apart. We were waiting 10 minutes + at each tee. One of the most frustrating rounds ever. Pace never picked up or leveled out. No course map on scorecard or tee boxes. No gps on carts. If you don’t have an app you are flying blind here. There are a few blind tee shots. We’d have to ride down fairway to spot landing zones and see when the group in front of us had cleared. This impacts pace of play as well. No snack bar or bar on Saturday afternoon. Expected to be able to grab something at the turn, while we waited 10 minutes to tee off, but no food on site. There was one cart girl doing her best to keep the course hydrated. No coolers provided.

Nice course. Course was in good shape. The staff was friendly. The restaurant is closed on Mondays. Drinks are reasonable. Not a bad price at all. They offer a book if you've never played there. #14 and #18 are cart path only. Great course for the price.

Y'all need to update your website, Everytime I call to see if the pool is open it's impossible, you have an outdated recording from last year that says the pool is permanently closed, there's no way to leave a message, and here it is July and y'all are closing the pool Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, which is false advertising because your website says it's open, it's really pissing off a lot of people!! And your lifeguards are somewhat lazy, they don't get the leaves and bugs out of the pool enough, you have about 6 workers there and they can't even keep the bugs out of the pool with a simple swipe with the net that's very easy to do, they're just too lazy to do it, so if you guys don't change these things you're gonna lose business badly, and if you don't update your website showing when the pool is open or closed so that people don't drive there and waste gas money just because y'all won't answer the damn phone ir put it on your website or social media page when the pool will be open or closed, if y'all don't change that then someone sooner or later is gonna sue you for false advertisement

Nice little park, out of the way in a very quiet part of town. Community pool with diving board and lap lanes, public restrooms, two new playgrounds, baseball fields, and basketball courts. Picnic areas available for groups.

They have revamped this park with a great walking trail and two nice new playgrounds for little kids. There are several picnic shelters as well as ball fields and courts of all kinds

Hef's Restaurant is a lively dining establishment near you that should not be missed. Their delectable pizzas, spicy hot wings, and juicy burgers are worth a visit. They also offer a selection of refreshing beer on tap. During our late lunch visit, we were pleased with the attentive server named Jennifer who expertly described their specialties and off-menu items.
Hef's is quickly becoming one of my favorite local restaurants. The food is served hot and it has always been delicious on every visit. They don't skimp on the meat in the burgers, but it's also not overboard with portions. If you leave hungry, it's your own fault! Pictures I uploaded show I ordered a hamburger, all the way (slaw, chili, mustard, onion) and fries. My brother-in-law got the Chipotle burger, tater tots, wings and dill pickle chips.

Went sat night. There 2nd night of re-opening. Place was packed.. still took care of us in a timely manner. Good food.. great service . Support Local!! These folks are great !

Wings were excellent, staff was great and worked their tails off. The shredded pork wasn't good at all (cold and no sauce). Burger was above average and the pizza was solid but WAY too much cheese. And I've never said that in my life.
Shaun A — Google review
Great food and amazing staff. Handmade burgers. I ordered 2 patties with chilli with a side salad. Both were fantastic and they didn't mind the extra request (and added left is if I wanted to wrap it). We will be back soon to try the wings.

Great atmosphere. A real treat. Just opened up since Hurricane Helen disaster. A great place to go and get a couple of drinks in Spruce Pine.

Great food, friendly staff, however their prices are very expensive.... I about fell over when I seen the bill. $31 for a 18 piece of boneless Wings and $0 .50 per ranch & blue cheese. Applebee's has all you can eat for $12.99 & Coach's has them for $14.99. I know prices are very high but dammmmm !!!!

Hands down the best restaurant we went to in the mountains. One night after adventuring we had got back in town kind of late and not many restaurants were still open but Hefs was there to save the night! You've got to try there chili cheese fries, but everything there was amazing the environment, food, and service!

Western Sizzlin is a popular restaurant chain known for its extensive menu of steak, chicken, and seafood options. Located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, this dining establishment is part of a larger network of Western Sizzlin locations throughout the state. Offering an array of hot and cold buffets, customers can enjoy a variety of delicious dishes including fresh salads with customizable toppings such as ranch dressing or French dressing.
Best food, dessert and bread bar around. Plenty of room and quick wait to get food ordered and sat down. They accommodated my dad who is on oxygen and needed a table up front. Very polite staff and food was Amazing.

I have eaten heat since I was a kid. This was a favorite restaurant. I’d thought all western Sizzlins had closed. I was ecstatic to eat here during a trip. This one was even better than I remembered. Food was fresh and tasted incredible. Everything looked and smelled clean. The staff was warm and friendly.

The Gold Standard of good dining out in this community. Consistent quality buffet, excellent wait staff, and the most attentive owners/managers you'll find . If you're passing through Spruce Pine, give them a visit!

Got the buffet with a party of 25ish. Waitress was kind and attentive with our large group, we happened to have a room to ourselves. Lots of seating. Buffet options are good. the salad bar was excellent. Buffets can be a little grungy.. this wasnt perfect but i saw ppl clean as guests went through the line, so thats a plus.

This Steer seems to be under new management. The quality of the food was very good, nothing was cold or cool it was all hot just as if it had just come off the burner. The salad bar was complete with a very good variety of veggies and fruits. My meal was very tasty and I enjoyed being there for dinner. Thank you.
Marilyn M — Google review
I didn't even know these places still existed. Plenty of options both to order and on the buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty. I favored the fish and cabbage. Awesome salad bar. The service is well organized and very friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this place and would recommend to anyone.
Chris B — Google review
It was a very nice dining experience. My waitress was very attentive and helpful. The meal was very good. My entree included the toppings for the baked potato, yeast rolls and dessert off the buffet.
Amy V — Google review
I’ve now ordered from here twice first time was a great experience. Food was good. Second time. The only issue is the blonde older lady. Very rude. Needs to work on her customer service skills. That’s how you chase off new customers. I’m hoping she’s not the owner because I will be having a phone call. She just had a nasty attitude from the beginning. We were getting our sides for our baked potato and she came over to us and was rude and snotty about it asking making sure that we were getting sides for our baked potato. Definitely needs to work on your customer service skills

Fast food restaurant
Hamburger restaurant
Hardee's, a fast-food establishment known for its deep-fried poultry, substantial hamburgers, and freshly prepared morning pastries, has been perceived as dubious by some individuals. While service quality ranged from poor to nonexistent, the made-from-scratch breakfast biscuits with savory gravy received positive feedback. Nonetheless, this particular Hardee's was deemed the worst encountered by one patron who expressed relief upon its closure. Another diner had a favorable initial experience with Hardee's unique offering of breakfast until noon.
Their food is really good. The floors were a little dirty. The bathrooms were clean. My husband enjoyed the 2/3lb monster burger and i enjoyed my cheeseburgers. The onion rings reminded me of the homemade onion rings that i make at home. I give this place a 5 star and will be returning more to check out more of their food menu.
Skitty S — Google review
It's been about 5-6 years since I've been to a Hardee's and they still can't cook food on site. The burgers are cooked somewhere on the west coast and shipped to stores on the east coast, where they are microwaved and served. Knowing they cook the burgers in some other state, I got a couple of chili dogs. Unfortunately, they were cold as ice. I guess I'll never learn.
Automatic “ — Google review
Worst Hardee's I've ever been to. Stopped here a couple weeks ago for lunch. The place was filthy, floors unswept, soda station a mess, etc. Food was cold and seemed a bit stale but I marked it up to just a bad day for them. Went back today and I'm not sure the place has been cleaned since I was there the last time and the food was once again, less than hot. The chicken tenders were edible but the fries were room temperature so I asked for new fries which were just above room temperature and warm to the touch. I also noticed pre made food items setting on the slide where the cooks pass it to the front. I'm guessing they just make stuff and hope someone buys it. Probably explains why the food is cold when received. Needless to say, today was definitely my last trip to the Spruce Pine Hardee's
Chris A — Google review
Burgers are not hot. Not even warm. French fries was very and fresh. Sweet tea was like water and sugar. Very little tea. Dirty place. Been going to Hardee's here in Spruce Pine, NC. since 1980. It's a shame that it has been this way since COVID-19. This is down rt lazy...... WOW
David M — Google review
My husband and I ordered hot ham & cheese sandwiches and they were actually hot and fresh. We have been avoiding Hardee's lately because our food was cold and did not taste very good the last two times but this meal was totally different. The onion rings we're fresh and hot too.
Carol F — Google review

Bill — Google review
Our group of 3 and another couple were the only ones in the place. 2 girls in the kitchen complained loudly about all the milkshakes being ordered and they didnt want to make them. One even stated she was going to walk out because there were 7 milkshakes ordered between 2 drive in orders. She stated that she didn't get paid enough for that. The food tasted fine, but our order was wrong because they were too mad about the milkshakes. They were very slow getting the orders done as well.
Sherry G — Google review
This was the worst Hardees I have ever been to and my last. I waited 10 min in drive thru with No one in front of me and only one person inside as a customer. My burger was cold and had Everything on it I asked not to be and the fries were stone cold and it was 12:30pm in the afternoon. The only good part was I stopped back in to complain and the nice girl gave me a free sandwich...chicken.

Nestled in a picturesque setting, Little Switzerland Orchard, Cidery, Winery & Brewery is a must-visit destination near Asheville. This family-owned establishment takes pride in crafting small-batch wines with dedication and innovation from grape seed to glass. The charmingly quirky vibe of the property, adorned with vibrant colors and fruit plants, offers an inviting atmosphere for visitors to savor house-made wine, cider, and mead.
I don’t mean for this to sound dramatic but truly this is one of my favorite places on earth. I’ve been here several times in different seasons and each time it is such a joy. Something about being in the mountains surrounded by nature with a great drink and good company is just amazing. It almost feels like time goes by slower the moment you start the drive up to the orchard. Don’t pass on visiting this place you won’t regret it.

My wife and I really enjoyed this place. It truly is a hole in the wall find and absolutely beautiful. Don’t expect anything fancy or over dramatic. It is just a nice local place that Tony and his wife built, maintain, and make their own wines and ciders. I love the Chai in the Sky cider. They have nice little campsites and some with full RV hookups. It is a skinny road to get there but once you do get there, you don’t want to leave.

After a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and lunch at the Little Switzerland Cafe, we decided to make our way to the Little Switzerland Micro Orchard for a drink before heading back to Asheville. It's a trek to make it there, I'll tell ya! After getting off the main road, you must travel up a few steep gravel hills of private property before finding the Cidery, so I wouldn't suggest making the drive in a small car, unless its all wheel drive. The cider and wine was exceeded expectations, and it was delicious! Definitely worth the trip!
Madison F — Google review
What a fun and unique spot! We stopped by on our way to Burnsville today, sampled some ciders, and even got homemade cider margaritas. The kids got some ice cream, and we walked around the property grounds to feed the horses. Very cool spot! Hope to be back for beverages or camping soon!
Sheri E — Google review
We absolutely loved this place. Discovered it after spending day on the Parkway during peak leaf viewing. Owners were awesome, beer and cider was outstanding. Best hard cider my wife and I had tasted in a long time. They provided FREE peanuts and hot dogs to the customers! Amazing! Live music too. We are going to plan campground stay next Spring. Can’t wait to get back up there again. Great customer experience with mix of families along with young and older adults.

Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Little Switzerland is a charming community offering a variety of shops, dining options, and activities. The Mountain View Restaurant provides stunning views while the local bookstore offers a unique atmosphere with a homemade canoe in its basement. Visitors can also find a beekeeper selling honey nearby. Established in 1998 by Dr. Tim Tyndall and his wife Karen, the Blue Ridge Soap Shed boasts over one hundred varieties of natural handmade soaps.
This place was definitely a hidden gem that I’m glad we found! Ended up purchasing 10 bars of soap-some gifts for family members! I have extremely sensitive skin and purchased the unscented/sensitive skin blend (has 4 different kinds of oils) one for myself. It has made my skin feel so soft and hydrated! Even though this place is a little bit off the beaten path, it’s SO worth the visit!

This place makes the best soap in the world. I use their charcoal soap for my face and shaving and have been using their Mountain Herb Hand repair soap for over 25 years. This business is just one of the most wonderful places to visit and I adore Tim and Karen.
Anne S — Google review
The owner was extremely helpful and friendly. He gave us a tour and introduced us to the soaps and their benefits. After we smelled EVERY bar in the room, and enjoyed the handmade shelves made from tree branches, we made our purchases, and strolled out into the yard to enjoy the scenery. We took a much needed break from the mountain roads swinging in the old wooden swing in the front yard. I loved our visit to this gem of a place and will definitely recommend it to anyone.

Do not order online from them. I ordered once and they were a little behind, which is fine. I ordered again and it has been over 2 months and they will not answer the phone, will not return calls, will not answer Messenger, and will not reply to email. If you buy from them you must do it in person. They are completely incapable of anything technology related including answering the phone.
Jake S — Google review
My husband and I loved every second while we visited the Soap Shed. The owner was very helpful by explaining all his wonderful homemade soaps and it was just a joy to have a conversation with him. Also, the soaps smelt wonderful, my husband and I picked out 10 and we can't wait to get home and try them out. I would 100% recommend anyone to go visit this place. It's truly amazing to see the tradition of homemade soaps still being carried out to this day. We will for sure be coming back.

We visit Tim’s soap shed every time we visit the blue ridge mountains. A very special little place with soaps made for all kinds of functions and scents. Highly recommend.

Their soap is amazing. I got into something in the flower beds and their first aid soap is healing my skin fast. I am a “soapie” and their soap is my favorite. Strongly recommend them with their selection and quality. And the owner is simply awesome. He answered all of my questions and patiently waited as I made my selections. He is a gem!
Lynn T — Google review
I've been dealing with a skin condition under my arms and breast for years; that I could never identify. Until I did some research and found it was Intertrigo. The Blue Ridge Soap Shed came up in a home remedies search for the condition. I read a few reviews from others and the ingredients in the soap. Pleased with what I found, I placed and order for 2 bars. They arrived Aug 7th/8th (very quick) and I used the Intertrigo soap for the first time yesterday (8/10). Within one day my underarms have lightened in color as if the soap pulled out any toxins that may have accumulated from chemical deodorants. My skin feels smooth and dry; no sweating overnight like I usually do. I can't wait to see the total results by the end of the week. I also like to thank Tim for writing a positive message on the receipt and including a sample of their new deodorant soap. Will definitely order again soon!

This is a really unique place. Woody has an awesome history, much of it displayed on one of the walls in the store. Woody's doesn't really make normal chairs, their chairs look like most others in the pictures, but up close they are incredible, with amazing craftsmanship and wood finishes. This show should not be advertised as a gem and mineral show, it's about 98% jewelry. The few mineral specimens that are there are priced at two or three times what you will pay at the Grassy Creek show which is right down the road and at the same time as this show. If you want rocks and mineral specimens Grassy Creek is the show you should go to. I feel like i threw away $10 at this show. Grassy Creek is even free!

Hiking area
Experience a piece of history at the yearly re-enactment during the Overmountain Victory Celebration in September, held at the Museum of NC Minerals. Join in on the festivities and immerse yourself in the historical significance of this event.
Lovely trail, the baboon who said it "ends abruptly" didn't take 5 seconds to turn around to see the rest of the trail on the other side of the road with the large "public trail" sign. Beautiful area with what seems to be a very caring group of people taking care of it
GlacierComix — Google review
At first it appears to be a nice trail by the creeek, but it dead ends without warning approximately 0.4 miles from the trailhead.
A P — Google review
I don't think it was fair to call the reviewer who did not see the marked trail across the street any names, because no one can see the trail across the street FROM THE PARKING AREA. At least in summertime. To find the trail that is across the street, you will have to walk a bit down the road and THEN the sign is visible. Look for the two large white rocks. I thought it was just the end of a driveway for someone, but it turned out it was the portion of the trail that the last review mentioned. My advice for those who are taking some care for this trail is to post a large sign on the parking area kiosk about the trail continuing on the other side of the road. That would be great for everyone and more people will come to enjoy this space for history. PS: forgot to mention we saw bear tracks on the stream side trail, so watch out.

Pizza Hut is a popular chain that offers delivery, carry-out, and dine-in options. They are well-known for their pizza, wings, and pasta dishes, as well as a variety of sides and desserts. Recently, I visited one of their locations and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pizza. It exceeded my expectations compared to previous experiences at Pizza Hut. The customer service was also exceptional when I placed an order on December 10th, 2021.
The food is always good that I get here. I pass by here often and use the drive thru. That’s why I gave the atmosphere a 3. I am not qualified to answer atmosphere because of the 12+ meals I haven’t gone in. They have all been take out. I go online on the way home and order. But the service has always been great. With a minimal wait. It has never been a wait at the drive thru even with a long line of cars. The following is just my opinion.i hope it’s okay with vegetarians.i have lived with one for a long time!! All my life! I changed my review number from a four to a five. I received a very nice email from the owner for giving them a 4 on my review. I give most places a 4 because you have to be a stand out to me and go beyond on something. I felt like this was going beyond so I changed it to a 5. I also noticed their outside sign says they have a huge salad bar. *** My husband went online and ordered a pizza and wings for under $20.00 and I picked it up on the way from out of town. It was delicious. Pizza was chicken, green onions, and regular onions. I never thought I would like a pizza like this but it really is wonderful. So I got some pictures of the drive thru and inside for everyone to see.@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Saw someone at the drive thru window yesterday. Monday, October 28, 2024. Got take out Tuesday. Confusing hours. Look at my picture. I’m posting them and it’s limited menu.

Worst experience ever! I ordered delivery at 1130 for my office to be delivered at 12 noon. By 1:00 they still hadn't delivered the pizza. Despite my order showing as in progress (see pic). I call the restaurant and I get some story about them not having any door dash drivers today (I ordered delivery on pizza hut site, not through door dash) additionally door dash made 4 other deliveries to my office building during this time. Either way I was not getting my pizza delivered. The manager said I could pick it up. I left work and went to pick up my order. When I received it, it was freezing cold. I requested a new pizza to be made. This apparently pissed off the workers as they didn't want to do it. I insisted I was not accepting this pizza and cheesesticks that had been sitting there for 2 hours. I had to wait an additional 20+ min for my order to be remade. When I got it back to the office, you can see in pics what I got. I ordered a large stuffed crust pepperoni and double order cheesesticks. I got 2 reg cheesestick orders, one of which was not cooked, the other which wasn't sliced and was missing sauce. And I received a hand tossed plain cheese pizza that was about half cooked. This was the worst pizza hut experience ever. I tried to chat with corporate office about it but I waited 45 minutes for someone to come online, apparently they don't care either.

I would say as a forewarning. Inside is slow service with a 50/50 chance of the staff getting your order correct. My bf & I arrived at approx 8pm to 810 pm. The waitress said to sit on the left side of the restaurant bc chairs were up the other side already besides a table that was already there. So at 810pm chairs were already up! And not to mention every booth on the left where they suggested we sit was dirty!! Geez, that was just the start. But not get lengthy here. Just say we waited over an hour for our order which we were missing a pizza that the waitress verified she did not put that one in. * Who knows what happened. The kitchen oven area had 10 pizzas hanging outta the oven waiting to be cut & boxed. We ended up taking our food to go bc by this time Ingles grocery was soon to close at 10 & we had to make it. So we were out & paid by 9:30 *even though the service & restaurant was NOT GOOD at all. Will not be returning there, I would advise order delivery or drive thru. Salad bar was old lettuce & a Mess as well. Bathroom had black olives on the floor as you can see in pics. How this restaurant indoors area is open is beyond me....oh well. Hopefully the owner goes in & changes this place for the better. Maybe start with Re training staff or hire more help who can handle the job descriptions. If you eat inside plan to wait over an hour for your meal, than may be wrong order! By the way, was only 2 of us!!

Excellent experience. My husband and I went into Pizza Hut in Spruce Pine, NC on Sunday afternoon. There was only one waitress and she was very friendly from the start. Her name was Amber. She was multitasking several different jobs all at once while keeping a positive professional friendly approach towards everyone. Pizza was delicious and it didn't take as long as we expected.

Robert, who works in the evenings at this location - always has the best attitude when I come pick up my pizza. He is so polite, and genuinely provides the best customer service to us. Thank you for being a food industry worker, that still treats the customers like gold. You are one of a kind!

If you're drive through only, say you're drive through only. I showed up on Saturday at the time it said my food would be done. Waited 20 mins because you let a guy order 3 pizzas, then wait in front of us. My pizza was cold and your employees working at the time literally stared at me for 20 mins while my order was getting cold on the shelf because they were taking care of the guy in front of me. I showed up on time for my online order. You suck and its no wonder you're a failing brand. No concept of customer service.

The delivery driver was super nice! She is so sweet! Also, our pizza was hot when it got here and delicious!

Ordered a medium thin crust supreme 18.79 feed it to the dog I've been 2days trying to speak to someone it's just a shame that some places don't care what they send out Was the worst pizza I have ever seen or tasted NEVER AGAIN and not being able to actually speak to someone at the actual place of business is nuts

Chinese restaurant
China Wok offers a top-notch buffet that is pristine and hygienic, with patrons observing proper etiquette by wearing gloves while serving themselves. The variety of food choices is extensive, ensuring there's something for everyone's taste. The staff members are polite and attentive to customers' needs, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. Although some visitors feel that the food quality has slightly diminished since the restaurant reopened post-COVID-19, overall it receives high praise for its delicious cuisine and exceptional service.
Pleasantly surprised - don't let the old reviews fool you (different ownership then). The BEST Chinese buffet I've had in years. Food was fresh and authentic. They even keep their wonton separate from the broth - which is a great idea! Only criticism was the fried banana slices left some banana taste in the oil I guess and made the eggrolls a little odd.
Shaun A — Google review
Just so so. Some of the food is good some of it was bad. I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken. The wonton soup was missing any wontons. But the service was bad. From the moment we walked in the door they were yelling at us across the room how many? The waitress didn't smile not one single time and filled to bring the check after we were clearly done.

Been here a few times and the food has been ok , only problem is the lady that sits you is very rude ! She likes standing beside us while we are eating and want stop watching us eat , tries taking our plate before we are even finish . It's every time we have gone here . Just really makes you feel uncomfortable and like we are supposed to hurry up and leave! Don't know if she knows but it is rude to keep staring at people ! And this time the food wasn't good at all , almost like some of it was made and left over the day before . Just not happy at all and main reason we will not return here is that rude , no manner lady that just can't keep her eyes to herself!

The people working was so rude to my friends and I. I'm guessing they thought we was just teenage dirtbags. She threw our check down and left.

This place has amazing food for a buffet. One of the best. Fair priced too. Only reason I’m giving 3 stars is the waitress we got, was very hateful and rude to us. She didn’t give us a fortune cookie, no refills, and told everyone else happy new year and then charged us extra for our plates. This alone makes me not want to come back.
MORGAN K — Google review
Nasty, cold, slop. Id rather eat my own puke than this eat at this place. I admit that when this place first opened from being in that tiny building on the side that this place was great, I could have ate here every day, but after that first year mile stone there food starting going down hill and fast. The biggest mistake I EVER made was going here about 4 hours before closing.. there was NOT a single person in there other than my family and there was maybe 10 things on the buffet. They wanted us to pay before we sat down and now I know why. We all sat there waiting on them to bring out more food, but that never happened. About 10 minutes after being there and starting to eat whatever was available two people came out with a mop and a 5 gallon bucket of what smelled like pure bleach.. if there was any water in it I would be surprised, because I felt high from smelling it and my daughter refused to eat, said she felt sick. It was ridiculous, so we asked for our money back and they REFUSED...they wouldn't even give us 10% off or anything. Last time there and I will rot in my grave before I EVER thin of going back here...a cold day in hell before that will happen.
Cal M — Google review
Food just keeps getting worse , nasty inside, rude employees, been 5 or 6 times and has gotten worse . We have gotten the same waiter Everytime we have been and she likes standing beside our table watching us eat , makes us feel really uncomfortable! Takes our plate before we are finished . Watches us while we are paying and has we walk out the door. Don't know if she knows but staring is rude ! The last time we was there was the last time we will be back there !
James M — Google review
This place use to be really good. However, last night I ordered takeout, and the food was dry like they had got it right off the bar. Plus the shrimp sauce tasted like ketchup, mayonnaise, and sugar mixed together. My husband also said the lady who worked up front was rude to him. I love the China Wok in Burnsville, so I suggest that one goes there other than being truly disappointed in Spruce Pine!!

Sandwich shop
Subway is a popular casual counter-serve chain known for its customizable sandwiches and salads, offering health-conscious options. Customers appreciate the cleanliness of the place, especially the well-maintained drink area. The staff members are described as polite, helpful, and diligent in maintaining hygiene by changing gloves frequently. While some find it a bit pricey, many are willing to pay for the fresh ingredients and commend the young employees for their efforts.
I've always loved subway, I could eat it everyday 😋 But the people that work there can make or break the location regardless of the quality of the food. My personal orders and delivery orders that I pick up here are always quick and seemless. This staff is friendly and seem to always be happy to help. Keep it up
Jonathan B — Google review
Didn't get order right even though it was right on the receipt. We ordered a personal pizza got charged for it but they failed to mention they were out of them. Meatball sub didn't have hardly any meatballs at all on it. Hopefully Fire House Subs will be in our town before long. They will put our Subway out of business.
April P — Google review
They are ALWAYS out of something! Cheese, ham, chicken... you name it. When you order online, best give it a few minutes longer than the time provided as they never have it ready. I order online so I do not have to stand there and wait for a line of others to order. If it's true that Firehouse Subs is coming to Spruce Pine, they will shut Subway down if they keep this up. Hopefully they can figure it out soon.
Lydia A — Google review
No tea asked they said just don’t make it today. Only 2 kinds of chips. Only like 2 bags. Then asked about cookie nope they don’t have any of those either.
Sheree M — Google review
They are always out of something! They need to put a sign on the door to let people know what they are out of instead of letting customers wait in line and then tell them when they order. Customer service has gotten better. At least they do talk to you now.
Rosa B — Google review
Went in there to get to-go food and there was a person getting a sandwich made and one other customer in front of us. One guy was making sandwiches. Then one guys was acting like he was wiping th counter down while giving the guy making sandwiches more stuff to do. We stood there for about 8 to 10 mins and now there were more customers behind us plus one in front of us. Then a girl came from the back she started telling the customer in front of us that they were pretty much out of all the meats. After standing for that long and the one guy doing nothing we were all mad and walked out. The guy doing nothing could have told us when we walked in and we might would have come back there to eat. Went to Burnsville the next not only was the sandwiches great but the employees were so nice. Spruce Pine subway store needs some customer service training.
Wendy L — Google review
I was told to wait so the workers could fix two other people online order. Normally I would not care but I was already waiting in line for a while. Even after getting my food it was smoshed. Not to mention that one of the workers wear a mask that is brown on the outside. To me that is not sanitary. Not to mention the prices for this meal being squashed was ridiculous.

Restaurant
From Charlotte, a traveler visited No. 3 Grill in Spruce Pine, North Carolina seeking a dinner spot away from gun-toting crowds. To their surprise, they found an inviting place with a friendly and attentive server and delicious food. The Red Snapper and Salmon dishes were particularly enjoyable. Despite being located in the countryside, this hidden gem turned out to be a diamond restaurant on a golf course.
Today decided to try the Skyline restaurant since my son and I are staying at the Skyline Hotel. The management at the hotel said the food was delicious. We had the Honey Orange Firecracker Shrimp as an appetizer. They were huge!! Battered up so well and the sauce was delicious!my son ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and I chose the Ribeye slider with fries. Both were perfectly made with so much flavor. Wish we would have eaten here last night. We will be back. Our server Jetta did a nice job serving us and keeping water on the table.

The food was amazing. I had the salmon and the mushroom risotto. Both were cooked to perfection and flavorful. My friend had the house salad. It was lovely. Portions were generous. We both had a delightful craft cocktail.

This was my first time here and apparently there is new management. I don’t know what it was like before, but the food was excellent. Our party had the ribeye and the salmon and both were excellent. Well above what we expected. Will be back!

This is the best food for counties wide, truly. Staff here are so friendly. Try their bang bang shrimp and burger cowboy style. Best burger I’ve ever had. I love you skyline!

Outstanding food and drinks. Outstanding service (thanks Josh!). And an unbeatable view from our table on the patio. SO glad we found you.

Food was pretty bland. Edible but there was nothing memorable about it. The view was nice but that was the best thing here
Leanne A — Google review
Kayla was the most attentive and best waitress we've ever had! My husband has The Outlaw Burger, and it was perfect! My Ribeye slider was so good I literally don't have words! Fire Cracker shrimp, wine for me, and mixed drink for my husband all so great! Literally left The Chalet because the atmosphere was not good at all today. People arguing and screaming at kids while drunk and spilling drinks. The Skyline was the laid-back atmosphere we wanted and I can't express enough, the food is so good! Thank you, Kayla and staff, for an amazing evening with a spectacular view! We've already planned our next visit!
