The Ribat of Monastir is a well-preserved 8th-century coastal fort that now houses the Museum of Islamic Art. It was originally built as a fortified Islamic monastery and is considered the first example of a ribat on the African continent. The fortress has historical significance, having been used by soldier monks to pray and fight invaders during the Arab Abbasid dynasty. Over time, it has also served as a filming location for notable productions like Jesus of Nazareth.
100% worth the money spent! 8 dinar for adults and 2 dinar for children. So many alleyway and hidden rooms to discover. Plenty of places to also get away from the sun. The tower at the top gives you great views but be careful the safety barriers on top are missing. Toilet facilities are also provided. Must better than Ribat of Sousse.
Alicja B — Google review
The Ribat of Monastir is a historical site with some notable features, though it has its drawbacks. The entrance fee for adults is 8 Dinars. One of the highlights of visiting the Ribat is that it's great for taking pictures, offering picturesque views of the surrounding area. Many visitors also appreciate looking at the view from the structure. The beautiful courtyard provides a pleasant and photogenic space to explore. However, it's important to be aware that the Ribat has tight and narrow spaces. This can be dangerous, especially when climbing up the stairs where you might encounter other people coming in the opposite direction. Additionally, if you're tall, be careful of head height in some areas. For those interested in museums, the museum within the Ribat is very small and boring. On a practical note, the Ribat has toilet facilities. In summary: The Ribat of Monastir offers some lovely views and photo opportunities, particularly within its beautiful courtyard. However, visitors should be mindful of the potentially dangerous tight spaces and low head heights. The museum on-site is unlikely to be a highlight.

A castle by the sea. Big walls, gates, a sea gate .With a tower that, from the top of a narrow winding stair ,affords an amazing view. Cramped at the top , beware girls taking selfies and blocking the view. Nice and clean. Lots of levels, steps up to the fire step ,lookout areas ,guardrooms . Narrow steps ,no handrails and some very dark areas (Great fun if you do not worry about H and S) The Monty Python "Life of Brian" was filmed in it's entirety ,on location ,in this castle. What's not to like, castle ,sea ,steps ,towers big courtyard. Add imagination ,sit and contemplate. Visited as part of countrywide group tour so time limited, I could have stayed half a day!
Musicians M — Google review
It’s not exceptional in every way, but the view more than makes up for it. You’ll get an incredible panorama stretching over the sea and the city — especially at sunrise or sunset, the light softens the harsh edges of the urban landscape and the water glows. The setting is peaceful, perfect for moments when you just want to sit back, breathe, and take it all in. The facilities aren’t luxurious or overly fancy, and you won’t find anything wildly unique here, but for the price and ambiance, it delivers well. If you value scenery and a calm vibe over high-end amenities, this is worth a stop.
Aleen — Google review
This place is a gem. Not only for the historical importance and value of the ruins and how well preserved it is but because of the outstanding views it offers of Monastir. The climb up to the tower and the views from the top itself are spectacular. Remarkable value for this historical marvel...if you have seen the Ribat of Sousse this place will be familiar, but is much bigger and has more to offer....
Kevin C — Google review
Impressive fortress, staff were all very friendly and welcoming, although not much to do other than walk round inside and visit the small museum where there are a few artifacts. Ok for kids but our DO (9yo) got bored very quickly. The main tower offers very impressive views of Monastir and the local beach. Tower is a winding small passage which is not suitable for those with limited mobility. Over all, 4 stars as it really is an impressive monument, but not necessary to spend a lot of time at it. Cost was 18 TND for 2 adults and 1 child (~£4.55). Toilets were clean. Didnt get to the cafe although there apparently is one!
Peter C — Google review
Very nice big castle, historical one including very huge tour accessible all the days, including roman théâtre, high Tour and museum
Wael A — Google review
This Ribat is a wonderful place to visit. It is bigger than that in Sousse but not as preserved as the latter. You can spend a considerable time here if you take your time to explore this wonderful place. There is a small museum inside. The inner courtyard is fairly huge. Beautiful views overlooking the sea and the city. Stairs to the top can be a bit tight if there is someone heading in the opposite direction. Please mind your head in the reception area if you are over 5ft7 as the arch is fairly low. There are toilet facilities, free parking and security on site.

The Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba is a grand resting place for the former president of Tunisia, Habib Bourguiba, and his family members. Located in the historic Sidi el Mezri cemetery, this magnificent structure boasts a golden dome, elegant minarets adorned with authentic ceramics and marble. Visitors can explore the tomb and an attached museum during specific hours on weekends.
It looks like a mosque, but it is a beautiful and magnificent mausoleum. Both the exterior and interior design are impressive. I really enjoyed that there were only 2-3 people there at the same time as me, so I could really soak in the beauty and tranquillity of this landmark. Inside you will find the tomb of Tunisia’s former president and also some informations and his some belongings. The entrance is around the corner on the right, towards the cemetery. The entrance is free.

Initially I thought it was a mosque when I was travelling past it by car. However learnt that it was Habib's Museum. Really nice design of the building and fantastic history/life captured of Habib Bourguiba.

Super beautiful, someone make it a resort!! I liked the camels, but not the leftovers on the floor, not so nice in place for the dead… guess the camel doesn’t care.

This is an impressive modem structure, the mausoleum of the former president Habib Bourguiba, considered the Father of Tunisia. I was there on a public holiday so it was closed,. It was still mightily impressive from the outside though.

Lovely peaceful resting place. It is free to enter. There is a huge plaza leading up to the main entrance gates. Public access is on the right hand side past the exit to the rear of the building. Photographs adorn some rooms, there is stair access to the upper floor.

Looks like a mosque from far, only realized that it is a shrine of the former President of Tunisia Habib Bourguiba and his family. As for the shrine, we ask God for wellness and safety in our religion. It is not permissible to build graves and shrines.

Marché central de Monastir is a bustling marketplace where you can experience the excitement of the daily fish auction in the northeast corner. The Bourguiba Mosque, built in 1963 to honor Tunisia's first president, Habib Bourguiba, showcases the country's traditional religious architecture with its pink marble pillars and intricate golden mosaics. The mosque features a bustling prayer room that can accommodate up to a thousand visitors. Adjacent to the ribat is a large 9th-century mosque rebuilt in the 11th century.
We visited Monastir, city of the late President of Tunisia Habib Bourguiba. It’s located opposite the Ribat or the Fortress of Monastir.beautiful masjid ma sha allah. There are prayer facilities for women.

An architectural jewel in the heart of Monastir The Bourguiba Mosque is a real jewel that harmoniously combines modernity and Islamic tradition. Built in 1963 as a tribute to President Habib Bourguiba, it impresses from the moment you enter with its majesty and beauty. 🌟 A style inspired by Kairouan With its 84 pink marble columns and its magnificent carved wooden doors, it recalls the elegance of the Great Mosque of Kairouan. The majestic central dome brings a soft light inside, creating a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere. 📍 An exceptional location Located very close to the Ribat of Monastir and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it fits perfectly into this setting rich in history. The contrast between the bright white of the mosque and the intense blue of the Tunisian sky is simply sublime. 🧘♀️ A place of meditation and culture Even for non-Muslim visitors, the mosque can be admired from the outside for its unique architecture. It reflects both the spiritual heritage and the Tunisian national identity, paying tribute to an important chapter in the modern history of the country.

Restaurant Dar Chraka is a must-visit in the old Medina for an authentic Tunisian dining experience. It's an ideal spot to enjoy Mediterranean and Tunisian cuisine after exploring Forte El Ribat or the Mausoleum of Bourguiba. The menu features must-try dishes like brik, ojja, tabouna, mloukjiya, tajine, chapati, and lablebi. The famous couscous is highly recommended here.
Since 2007 it’s my hidden gem i go there every week end since i was a student in monastir,, nos i go there even with my famliy, the amount of food is generous and prices are okay
Nesrine M — Google review
To start with, the tablecloth was so dusty and full of smudges. Which was repulsive but can be disregarded. The seafood lasagne was excellent, and the experience could have been great (disregarding the unclean tablecloth) until I found a piece of hair in the bottom of the plate. It was horrendous. I acknowledged the waiter when I was leaving, and he made a joke about it. Of course without an apology. Again the experience would have been great because the food was great, however the place is super unhygienec.
Mouhamed A — Google review
My husband and I shared a mixed grill with chips rice and salad. Thinly sliced beef and liver, turkey escalopes and murguez were all excellent. Served with bread, sauces and olives it was a superb meal and plenty enough for two. With water only 31 dinar (=£8)!!!

the prices are very resonable considering the generous quantity and quality of the food. the location is very respresentative of tunisia's atmosphere but it isnt very chic or clean i would i advise u to go throughout the week because it can get very crowded the pictures are: couscous and brik

A casual, unfancy restaurant with a somewhat untidy ambiance. The staff are excellent, but the food is ordinary and didn’t suit my taste.

Fast service! I had salata mashwiya ( grilled salad ) and lamb coscos. Both were delicious except for the lamb which had more fat than meat. I would come back again.
Mohammed A — Google review
Never again. Run away from this restaurant. Tens of flies around. The sewer in the terrasse smells incredebly bad. The tablecloths are very dirty. The waiters do not care about you at all. The only thing good there is the food. Very bad experience. Felt like in an old town fastfood.

Palette Food Restaurant, situated close to Rabat Monastir and the city port, is highly popular among locals and tourists due to its convenient location and appealing features. The establishment boasts a charming outdoor terrace, modern interior designs, and a cozy ambiance.
The restaurant is very nicely decorated, the presentation is excellent (see the photos) and the staff is really friendly. We had great time, the food is of very good quality and I'm sure you'll be full after you've chosen one of those giant burgers or that half meter pizza. A place to definitely visit if you're passing by Monastir.

Probably the driest chicken I've ever had especially the extremely thin fried chicken fillet. The grilled chicken was slightly better but still dry. Prices are a little on the high side compared to neighboring restaurants. Pizza is simply too dry.

We got the Mexican burger and the cheese burger and both were amazing. The meat was juicy and well-cooked. They give you gloves with your order because the burgers are all double patties and the sauces are DELICIOUS. Three stars for the atmosphere because the seating arrangement is wildly uncomortable and the outside heat makes the wait feel twice as long. I would give the atmosphere 1 star but The music playlist they have going is fire. 9/10 will be back here again

We had the baked potato, you can choose 3 sauces with it. It was great but they could have made it better by adding more cheese into the mix. You can add cheese as an extra though. We also had the bun’s chicken sandwich which was great, the bread was fluffy and it was full of chicken and cheese. One drawback only is the loud music outside. Definitely recommend it for sandwiches and baked potatoes.
Mohamed A — Google review
We ate twice in 24 hours! The burgers are delicious and well-seasoned and the jacket potatoes are fantastic. Very professional and friendly staff, they even spoke some English and helped me with some menu items.

Bun's n Cheese offers a fair variety of food, with a standout original baked potato (kumpir) I believe it's not available elsewhere in Monastir. Dishes are average in taste (neither exceptional nor bad) and served fairly quickly, though many components (sauces, steak, fries) are industrial. A good option if you’re seeking a quiet, non-crowded spot.

Resto My Cocoon is a charming and cozy spot that offers a variety of delightful breakfast options. Located near the castle, it provides both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant is known for its cleanliness and friendly staff. Visitors have praised the generous portions, fair prices, and excellent service provided by the attentive staff members like Karim and Nizar. The menu features delicious dishes such as Thon brick (filo pastry filled with tuna and egg) and calamari.
The best experience ever! I loved the food, and the service was exceptional. The staff were incredibly friendly, and I was truly amazed❤️
Nawres T — Google review
My experience at My Cocoon was highly disappointing, and to make matters worse, they still charged us for a steak that had to be sent back for being undercooked and then took over 15 minutes to be recooked. My brother ended up not finishing it due to the late arrival. We also ordered a chicken dish, steaks (which were a poor cut), and spaghetti Bolognese, and all of the food was disappointingly bland. The service was terrible. We had to repeatedly ask the waiters, more than five times, for updates on our food, which indicated a significant lack of attentiveness. To add to the negative experience, our drink orders were incorrect, the food across the board was bland and not great, and the WiFi was not working during our visit. The fact that we were still charged for the poorly cooked and significantly delayed steak, coupled with the poor quality and blandness of the other dishes, is unacceptable and demonstrates a clear lack of regard for customer satisfaction. Overall, based on this experience, I would strongly advise against dining at My Cocoon. The issues with food preparation, extremely slow and inattentive service, incorrect drink orders, non-functional WiFi, the blandness of the food, and the decision to charge for a problematic dish made for a truly unsatisfactory dining experience.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Cocoon Restaurant, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. We were so impressed with both the food and the service that we visited twice during our stay. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor, and the Margarita pizza was a delightful combination of a crispy crust, fresh ingredients, and a balanced sauce. Both dishes exceeded our expectations and were thoroughly enjoyable. Additionally, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a great dining experience. Their friendly and professional demeanor added to the overall positive atmosphere of the restaurant. We will certainly be returning in the future and highly recommend Cocoon for anyone looking for delicious food and outstanding service.

We had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant twice during our trip, and both visits were exceptional. The food was absolutely outstanding, with each dish expertly prepared and full of flavor. What truly set this place apart, however, was the exceptional customer service. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. After trying other restaurants in the area, it became clear that this one provided the best overall experience. We will definitely be returning on our next visit!

As for the food, the set menu is truly a feast. We started with famous Tunisian harissa, yogurt and olive dishes with bread. Then we were served a legendary seafood soup. Afterwards, an assortment of fresh seafood appetizers, each more flavorful than the last. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the mussel dish was lightly seasoned and fresh. The octopus was crafted in a mind blowing seasoned tomato sauce.Along side 3 different Tunisian salad dishes. For the main course, the grilled fish was the standout – juicy, flaky, and served with an array of delicious side dishes that complemented it beautifully. The portions were generous, and it was clear that only high-quality ingredients were used. Dessert was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal, with a beautifully presented fruit platter and lemon sorbet that left us completely satisfied. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and added to the overall experience. If you appreciate fresh, flavorful Mediterranean cuisine in a one-of-a-kind setting, Le Pirate Monastir is a must-try. Highly recommend!

Amazing seafood restaurant, they don't have a menu, it's a full menu service, offering all types of seafood varieties

The restaurant is perfectly located within the Monastir port. The food quality is excellent, and the portions are generous. The dessert was wonderful, complemented by live music from a nearby singer. The staff are friendly and empathetic, making the experience even more enjoyable.

15 course fish mezze for €20!! Great Service in a nice ambience. Food was good too, you won't be able to eat everything that's put in front of you. This is really excellent value for money.

Great service, food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Jad C — Google review
I would give this place a solid 3.5/5 stars. Wish they had an a la carte menu because the quality of dishes of the set menu was all over the place - 2-3 stars for the bread, fish soup, and various appetizers, and 4 stars for the grilled fish and dessert. If I could, I would skip the appetizers and just get the grilled fish, but it all comes together for 55TND. It’s also a lot of food for one person so I feel like I created a lot of food waste. Fish soup - mostly salty, not sure if there was even any fish in it (unless it’s just supposed to have fish flavor, not fish chunks) Appetizers - most of these were unexceptional and tasted like they had been sitting out for a while Grilled fish - this was actually fresh and tasted delicious Dessert - the fruit was so perfectly ripe and juicy. Also enjoyed the citron sorbet. I was stuffed at this point and didn’t get to the plate of cookies that they served alongside mint tea All in all, the food was decent, but the restaurant could definitely use improvements.
Michelle — Google review
Decent food but I hated that they are charging 4TND per bottle of water on top of 67TND
Mohamed T — Google review
The food is excellent! I got to this place expecting a menu but I directly got some fish soup and I didn't mind, then I figured out they have the same service for everyone. After the soup I got some delicious appetizers. And after that I got a grilled fish which was very tasty. And we finished with some fruits, Ice cream and dessert. It was a nice experience, which I only can recommend. I will go back gladly :)

Café et Restaurant El Grotte is a unique dining spot located in a cave near the sea, offering a charming and scenic atmosphere for visitors. The restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful views of the sea. While some reviews mention that the food could be improved, others praise the rich and flavorful coffee as well as the diverse menu with tasty options. The service is commended for being good, and guests can enjoy a relaxing time while savoring delicious meals or coffee.
Fantastic place! The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Everything was fresh and full of flavor, and the staff made sure we had a great experience. Highly recommend!

Amazing 🤩 the place, the food quality and quantity, and the service. We have tried sth called délice terre et mer– they mentioned it’s for 3 person personally I think it’s enough for 4person. And it’s delicious 🤤

My favourite place in Monastir every time I go there I simply can’t get enough of it ✨
Guesmi R — Google review
El Grotte boasts a stunning location with a picturesque view, a definite highlight. However, my dining experience fell significantly short of expectations. The menu presented was unclean, a poor first impression that unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the meal. The fries I was served were cold, indicating a lack of attention to basic food service standards. Furthermore, the staff offered no smiles or warmth, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. A significant drawback for non-smokers is that all areas of the restaurant cater to smokers, and they are seated uncomfortably close to other diners, making it impossible to escape the smoke. While the location and view are undeniably attractive, the subpar food quality, lack of cleanliness, and unpleasant smoking environment make it difficult to recommend El Grotte for non smokers.

One of the best places in Monastir for a family outing. I love the view by the sea — it’s peaceful and beautiful. Some of the food could be improved, but overall it’s a great spot.

Negative sides: -we ordered two types of Pasta, the "Bianaca" one with white sauce and chicken was awful, it was tasteless. -The soup was also very watery and didn't taste good. Positive sides: -The rest of the dishes was good, especially the prawn pasta. -We enjoyed the place it looks different and clean. -The waiters are also nice. Price ~ 17, 18 tnd in average for each meal

Beach
Qaraiya Beach in Monastir offers a serene and relaxing environment with its clean, soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. Despite some complaints about litter, the beach provides facilities such as chairs, umbrellas, and cafes for visitors to enjoy. The free public parking adds convenience for those looking to spend a day by the beautiful blue waters. While it may not be bustling with tourist attractions, this tranquil beach is perfect for unwinding and taking in the lovely views.
seen from far away. it looked like a good place for an evening walk.
Marius G — Google review
The view on this beach from Ribat is amazing. However when. you go down to the water, you can see some litter every now and then. It's not awful amounts, but it's not pretty ether. The water was ok. There was some grass right next to the entrance to water. But once you go further to the sea (just a few meters) it's clean and swimmable. There's plenty of parking space nearby. The beach is long and there's plenty of space.
Rushan — Google review
A lot of people complaining, but maybe I was lucky, the beach was very clean, soft white sand and crystal clear water. Lots of facilities on the beach, chairs, umbrellas, cafes, etc. Enjoyed it so much I came back a second day.

Dar Bibi is a hidden gem tucked away in a small alleyway off the main road, making it a favorite among locals. The restaurant offers a simple local menu with fast and fresh service at reasonable prices. It's an ideal spot to savor traditional Tunisian cuisine, although the menu may not be in English. Visitors praise the perfectly executed dishes, authentic ambiance, and friendly service. The establishment also boasts traditional decor and plays old Tunisian and Arabic songs, adding to its charm.
It was one of the best couscous I've had in Tunisia! It was flavourful, a little spicy and the portion was huge. Could only finish half of it. The brik was also very tasty. It's a nice little restaurant. The service was very nice and courteous. The prices are a little higher in comparison to other places but in my opinion 100% worth it. If you like good and delicious Tunisian cuisine, you won't be disappointed here!

There's nothing I love more when travelling than finding a little, unassuming, local jewel, and this is one. The place was busy with locals - we were the only tourists. It's located down a little alleyway just off the main road. A small and simple local menu, but served fast and fresh, with great service and exceptionally reasonable prices. A must visit if look for some traditional regional food. The menu isn't in English so be sure to know what you want prior or ask the lovely water to translate. We had a couple of 'Briks' (triangle pastry stuffed with eggs or other filling) and some shan (a spicy vegetable dip / relish). A bread basket and some spice and oils as well as some rice was complimentary. With a couple drinks it came to about £5 for the both of us!!!

We forgot to take photos as we ate the great food too quickly. We enjoyed the tunisian salads and a brik and the food was great. The staff were friendly and the place has good facilities with soap, clean toilets and toilet roll.

I recently dined at Dar bibi and I was thoroughly impressed. While the menu is simple, every dish was executed perfectly. Very tasty pizza! One of the best in Monastir! The most important thing is that they use a real cheese not the dangerous cheese-like products used all over the country

Best "homemade" pizza in Monastir, it's expensive but worth every dinar. They use real chesse. Most of the time, I take it by weight, but you can also order full size round pizza. Payment by card is accepted.
Stanley O — Google review
I ordered a slice of mushroom escalope pizza. The taste was pretty good, if maybe a bit bland, and the ingredients were fresh, but they charge by the kg, and it cost 9.5 tnd, which shocked me. That is WAY TOO much to pay for a slice of pizza in Tunisia considering that it is 85% bread. Maybe ordering a whole pizza there is a better deal. On the plus side, it's very fast service since they're only warming up pre-baked pizza.
Justin L — Google review
The best pizza in Monastir BY FAR, also amazing service!
Ghada S — Google review
Hello, friends. We went for pizza yesterday after seeing all the hype on TikTok — people were saying it was amazing. But honestly, when we got there, it was a big disappointment. The pizza had no flavor at all. I kept trying to figure out what kind of pizza it even was — it just tasted flat, with no seasoning, no richness, nothing memorable. Definitely not worth the excitement or the trip.

Ténor, a popular fast food restaurant in Monastir, offers one of the finest sandwiches available in the area. Their noteworthy dish is the spicy chicken tacos, which stands out from traditional Mexican tacos. The only drawback is its limited space, leading to overcrowding during lunch hours. Nonetheless, patrons find it worth waiting for the delectable food served here.
It may not be the best but it is the best when you don't feel like going anywhere or when you don't really wanna spend a lot of money. I have no complains and I really love it. They are hardworking and organized ND the food is nice.

Nothing to do with what it once was 😒 I went to visit the restaurant and get their famous "Libanais" again after years. I used to walk for a good 30 minutes to get to there and order a tasty Libanais when I was in middle school. However, I was shocked: It tasted horrible. The bread was overcooked, the garniture was tasteless and the sauces were poorly made. I threw more than half of it in the garbage. There are much better options nowadays. Such a disappointment 😥

This is one of the best Sandwiches you can have in Monastir. Especially the Tacos (here tacos is in reference to the spicy chicken and not to the usual Mexican tacos) Unfortunately the place is so small and can get so crowded at lunch times. For me, it's worth the wait though.

Located at Imm Bab Essour Monastir, Le Roi du CousCous is the ideal destination for those seeking to acquaint themselves with the delectable local cuisine.
We had a lovely lunch at this small, local restaurant. The food was simple yet delicious, and the couscous was particularly great! If you're a foreigner visiting, I highly recommend trying the local cuisine. While seafood in this city is amazing, I prefer it for dinner rather than lunch. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is simple but clean, and the prices are very reasonable. Don’t expect a fancy, upscale dining experience, but for a calm and enjoyable lunch, this place is perfect. Overall, I give it a high rating because everything was just right for a small, cozy lunch spot.

Long waiting time. Salad portion pitifully small. It consisted of dry cucumber, a bit of tomato, a piece of canned tuna and a hard-boiled egg. Couscous very simple, weak in taste. Prices, however, high and the change was given wrong.

The worst restaurant ever from all aspects !! I gave one star for the view, the rest they don’t even deserve a zero! We had to wait more than 45 min to receive our order which i had to go several times to ask for it. The manager was so rude and irresponsible. I told him that the food was late 45 min, he act like i was exaggerating and asked the waiter who confirmed my complaint, what I got as an answer: we are changing the service so that’s what we are late, i told him that this doesn’t explain being this late and moreover the restaurant was empty even we were only 3 tables. The manager surprisingly said: what you want me to do now, the food is ready you want that I take it back? !!! How rude he was, not even apologized ! Really the worst manager I had ever dealt with! Moreover the food was bad, doesn’t worth neither the price or the time I wasted. Shame on this restaurant and the rude person managing it, I never recommend it!

If you're a fan of mouthwatering sandwiches, Mamma Chami is the place to be! This charming eatery offers an array of delicious dishes, with their standout being the 1/4 grilled chicken breast. The experience is enhanced by watching the oriental bread being freshly prepared right before your eyes. Accompanied by delightful hummus and garlic sauce, every bite bursts with flavor. While seating can be limited—especially during busy college break times—the friendly atmosphere makes it worth the wait.

Chicken is good, customer service is horrible. They don’t reply to calls. And one time we tried to call and cancel but they never replied. And after the delivery person called to inform us that the order was ready we told him that we wanted to cancel but no one answered us. And finally when we were able to reach the person in charge he yelled and completely denied that someone ever called him!!!!

A very inexpensive place to get a decent meal. Seating inside is limited to around 10-12 seats and 4-5 tables. Getting a seat requires some good fortune. There are some more seats outside. History Museums
The Presidential Palace of Bourguiba, originally built in the late 1960s as a summer residence for former president Habib Bourguiba, has been transformed into a museum since 2013. The museum showcases the vibrant history of Tunisia and its cities, drawing in crowds of tourists eager to explore its modern architecture and learn about the country's past. Visitors can admire the sleek design reminiscent of the 1958 World Expo in Belgium, with automated features and fold-away cabinets.
It’s amazing how what looks modern in one era begins to look very dated only a few decades later. Nevertheless this is well worth visiting because it gives you a glimpse into the life style of President Bourguiba and something of a reminder of Tunisia's rich historical and political heritage. I’m not certain that all Tunisians would have enjoyed the opulence of the surrounding. But that’s the case all over. Having said that it’s an interesting place.
Ross D — Google review
Important historical place for Tunisian people but also there is a lot of trash, and the building and surounding is not in the good condition.
Maja — Google review
The Presidential Palace of Bourguiba in Monastir presents a glimpse into Tunisia's modern history, though perhaps not a particularly captivating one. The architecture, dating from the mid-20th century, is functional and somewhat indicative of its era, but lacks the ornate grandeur one might expect from such a residence. Inside, the museum offers a collection of artifacts and personal items related to the country's first president. These provide some historical context, but the presentation is rather straightforward and may not deeply engage all visitors. The gardens surrounding the palace offer a pleasant, if unspectacular, space for a brief stroll. Overall, a visit to the Presidential Palace of Bourguiba could be considered a mildly interesting stop for those with a specific interest in Tunisian political history. However, for the average tourist, it might be more of a fleeting curiosity. A short visit of an hour or two would likely suffice to see what it has to offer without feeling like time unduly spent.
Jamie C — Google review
The Presidential Palace of Bourguiba is a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in architecture or the history of modern Tunisia. While parts of the grounds could use restoration, the palace still offers a strong sense of its former grandeur. Walking through the rooms felt like stepping into another era, providing a quiet and reflective experience. When I visited, I was the only tourist there, which made it clear that the site deserves more attention. I encourage others to take the time to visit, even though it is a bit removed from the main tourist areas in Monastir. After exploring, I enjoyed a relaxing tea at the café next door. With greater support and more visitors, the palace could begin to regain the splendor it once had.
Ray M — Google review
Inside look of the modern architecture of the early 1960ties. Our 1ste presidents taste was modern. You will find similarities in style like the '58 World Expo in Belgium. A lot of automatisation, closest and cabinets that fold away. Take a look in his personal wing and his business area. See his 1 of 5 Mercedes 600 Limousine. Museum is not visited often, a lost treasure that is open for public. Price is for only a small fee less than 10 dinar you can travel back to the 60ties and stand where the founding father of Tunesia stood.

Habib Bourguiba Museum

4.4

Museum
A visit to the Habib Bourguiba Museum is highly recommended as it offers valuable insights into Tunisia's history. Originally a summer house, the museum showcases the renovated interior, giving visitors a glimpse into the former dictator Ben Ali's mistrust towards Bourguiba. Despite its almost abandoned surroundings, exploring this site allows one to understand the complex dynamics of power and politics in Tunisia during that period.
Amazing fortress and acknowledgeble about old civilization
Marcela B — Google review
I visited the museum on the first Sunday of the month with my foreign friend, as it’s supposed to be a free entry day for everyone. However, when we arrived, we were told by the staff that free entry only applies to Tunisians, while foreigners are required to pay an admission fee, even on free entry days. This was disappointing, as I wanted to share this cultural experience with my friend visiting Tunisia, but this policy made the experience frustrating. Additionally, we noticed that the museum could use more cleaning and maintenance, which surprised us, especially for a place that serves as a cultural and tourist attraction. I hope the museum management will consider offering free entry to everyone on certain days and paying more attention to cleanliness and upkeep to make the experience more enjoyable and appealing for all visitors, both Tunisians and foreigners.

Intimate former presidential palace, now a museum to the memory of the late leader of the national stife for independence and the first president of Tunisia, Habib Bourguiba, 'the supreme combatant', The palace itself is in a decent condition of conservation, almost as it was on 6 November 1987, but the ancillary buildings, fountain, pool, and garages are in a very poor condition. Also, the former gardens are now construction sites for private villas and apartment blocs.

Plage la Falaise is a delightful beach destination that captures the essence of Monastir's charm. While there may be some litter along the path and near the water, it’s not overwhelming, and visitors can still find clean patches of sand to relax on. The beach offers a lovely setting for enjoying sunsets, with ample parking available for those looking to soak in the beautiful surroundings.

Dar Benti

Bed & breakfast
Dar Benti is a charming guesthouse located in the heart of La Medina, offering a blend of traditional Moroccan riad and Tunisian guesthouse experiences. The accommodation features well-maintained rooms with high standards of cleanliness and modern amenities. Guests can enjoy the outdoor pool, hammam, and a rich breakfast during their stay. The staff is known for their warm hospitality and willingness to assist guests with various needs, including parking and dining recommendations.
Beautiful, beautiful venue - they've done a brilliant job renovating and decorating it, a balanced blend of modern and traditional elements. The breakfast spread was simply excellent as well. Location-wise, you can only reach it through the Medina's narrow alleys but thankfully it felt quiet and safe even in the evening.
Katerina N — Google review
A beautiful spot right in the medina. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Each morning there is a lovely breakfast spread. You will need to take a short walk to reach Dar Bhenti from the west gate of the Medina. However, local cafes, banks, and landmarks are all 5-10 min walk from the hotel - very convenient. The rooms are beautiful and well maintained. There is a selection of local beer and wines as well for guests to try if they’d wish. The roof top space offers a quiet spot to sunbathe and take a quick dip before exploring more of Monastir.

Very bad experience, I’ve had a photoshoot for my wedding. We came there with 4 persons one of them was the sister of my wife and the other were photographers. The woman didn’t want alot of people upstairs with the shooting. We made a appointment and we payed alot of money for a hour to her for the shooting. My wife needed her sister to hold her dress and help her with anything else. Instead, the woman got angry and told us only to go up with 2 photographers. Her sister needed to sit in her office which was not a nice experience for her. We didn’t feel welcome at all. At least she could’ve been nice to us, which was our wedding day instead of making problems about the shooting situation. Wouldn’t go there again, would advice others to go to another location.
Ouael H — Google review
Location is great! Staff was super friendly, very willing to use our Google translate since we did not speak any French or Arabic! They we're super helpful with finding parking and restaurants as well. Beautiful traditional architecture, with a nice pool and rooftop. The breakfast offered lots of different options. The place is older, the traditional architecture is beautiful but it also feels a bit outdated. The owner has done a lot of work to make it feel modern and comfortable. There is also no door to the bathroom, and the bathroom is rather small. Very little space around the toilet even.
Gabby D — Google review
Wow! Fabulous! Elegant! Just a few words to describe at minimum the positive experience we had at Dar Benti with our host Sarah. With plaques posted from the entrance of the old market to guide you to Dar Benti, we never felt lost as we found our way to the front door of Dar Benti. The staff were all so kind, yet very shy. However, very beautiful people to talk to. The bonus is the tour presented to you by Rim to explain the transformation of this over 100 year home into the oasis that it has been handcrafted corner to corner by the owner Sarah. Not just sheer elegance in the design of the property, but the care and artisan presentation the kitchen staff apply towards a remarkable and unforgettable breakfast experience EVERYDAY! If are looking for an escape, there are several spaces Sarah has created for you throughout the property to sit back, relax, and find your serenity. But of course, your room is yet an oasis on its own! Scents, ambiance, just truly beautiful. The property is located at the most ideal main doors to the madina. The lounge is approximately 4 minute walk, the metro is approximately a 7 minute walk which we found extremely convenient for us! The main historical attractions which are all towards the ocean are averaging 5-10 minutes walking. Several local food, cafe, and shisha options throughout and surrounding the Madina. More of an enhanced or much more modern dining experiences are all available with appropriate 15 minutes walking. For a guaranteed experience, and if location is important for you, we truly suggest Dar Benti. Our room had two bed, both beautifully designed and decorated. If price is not an issue for you, the larger room with the additional bed is amazing as it feels like a home all together! Super merci Sarah and your beautiful team of Rim, the hospitality staff, and the young very shy maintenance gentleman!

Wonderful! A gorgeous guest house designed and operated by a young architect from Belgium. The amazing and well thought out details are too numerous to mention but are immediately evident from to entry way to the gorgeous tea rooms. The antique door frames sourced from around the world are a stunning feature to an already stunning guest house. Sarah made us feel welcome from the minute we asked about reservations and through the visit. The guest house has a homey feeling and is suitable for children as well. This guest house is a true gem.

Wonderful oasis that appears magically once you walk through the 100m or so narrow pedestrian cobblestone path that leads off the single lane one way road outside. These streets are within what must have been the old city within the city walls which are still there. Once inside there is architectural beauty, attention to detail, tranquility, sumptuous breakfast, pool, well appointed rooms etc. the waterfront is not too far away - maybe 10-15 mins walk or so.

La Cocina is a popular spot in Monastir that offers affordable Tunisian dishes prepared with care. The restaurant is always bustling with locals, which speaks volumes about the quality and value of their home-cooked plates. While the menu may be limited, they make up for it with daily specials that sometimes run out early. Dining takes place on the outdoor terrace, providing a pleasant atmosphere. The establishment itself is small, clean, and staffed by friendly individuals.
I’m eating my lunch here right now. The restaurant has generous space and the waiter who is serving me is so passionate about the foods they provide. I had a set plate with deep fried chicken , French Fried, spaghetti and a lot salad . It’s 13 TND =USD4. Very tasty and good price. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in Monastir .

All locals, cheap and freshly prepared. Fish was 17D, there are very cheap Dish of the Day - the featured dish was tuna macaroni (real piece of tuna) and beef couscous (very moist) for 11D. Best place to eat in Monastir

We were so lucky to get a table as this is a very popular place among locals. The menu may be limited but every day it offers something different! Everything is fresh and the quality is pretty high, especially considering the rock bottom prices. Quick and friendly service truly makes you want to come back and try the rest of the menu.

The menu is a bit limited, since the they have 3 daily changing dishes outside of the normal menu. But there should still be enough for everyone. The couscous there has been my favorite so far in Tunisia and the sandwich was also very good. Prices are super cheap, with 2 big dishes + drinks and tea we still had a bill under 25 Dinar. Can only recommend to anybody visiting Monastir.

If you find yourself wandering through the charming streets of the Medina and craving authentic Tunisian flavors, La Cucina is a must-visit spot. This cozy eatery buzzes with locals, hinting at its popularity and quality. The menu may be concise, featuring daily specials that showcase the best of local cuisine. During my visit, I was pleasantly surprised by how delightful the food was—especially after some less-than-stellar dining experiences in Tunisia.
We were staying in nearby hotel and went for dinner to La Cucina. It was the best choice! Small place with all team very engaging and proud of their food. We had many bad food experiences during trip in Tunisia so we were not expecting much. But food here was truly amazing! We ordered few pizzas, and our family is from Italy - everyone said it was Napolitan pizza level (dough, sauce, ingredients), delicious! We also had paella with seafood, pasta with fish of the day and lasagna. Totally recommend and will come back again for more pizza!!
Margo K — Google review
Ok but don’t go too late as they may no longer do pizza and you’ll end up ordering pasta late at night, hence the 4 stars. Everything is good but we set out to go out to get pizza upon arrival we were told they no longer could serve pizza but pasta. Took some pasta dishes for the kids to have dinner but would not myself have it as I personally don’t like pasta that late at night. The pasta dishes looked nice and very filling. The was actually a lot in each plates. WiFI is available but did not try their toilet facilities so cannot comment on that. The place is small but cute and well decorated.
Odile H — Google review
I visited La Cucina on September 15, 2024, and was really impressed with their Italian food. The pizza 4 cheese was fantastic creamy, flavorful, and perfectly baked. The seafood pasta was another highlight, bursting with fresh, tasty flavors. They’re definitely doing great work with their Italian dishes! The waiter was also a standout, she was very friendly and professional, which made the meal even more enjoyable. That said, there were some downsides. Their specialty, paella, isn’t always available, and they only make it at specific times they don’t share upfront. When I asked about it, the chef yelled at the waiter.. something like, 'We don’t make it now! Tell them we don’t have it!' which was uncomfortable to witness. The chef later apologized, explaining he was stressed and the waiter had asked him repeatedly, but it still left a bad impression. Overall, the food and service from the waiter were great, but the chef’s behavior and unclear paella schedule were disappointing. I’d still recommend it for the Italian dishes, just don’t count on the paella!

Restaurant darna - دارنا is a cozy and budget-friendly eatery in Tunisia, offering authentic local dishes made with simple ingredients at reasonable prices. The restaurant provides a warm and friendly atmosphere, with sincere and welcoming staff. The restaurant's daily menu is often shared on social media, making it convenient for visitors to plan their meals.
Found out this cozy restaurant on the last day of my Tunisia trip, which gave me a warm wrap up. I ordered chicken Tajine which is very delicious and fresh. They also offered soup, salade and bread. The price is very honest and at normal local level. The staff there are so sincere and friendly, which is not always the case when you go to some tourist places. Thank you so much for leaving me a good memory and I would love to come back!

(Translated by Google) Today we finally managed to visit Binnet Darna during the day. At the time of our visit there wasn't too much going on and most of the tables were free. We sat outside because the weather allowed it. We were immediately welcomed and the map was explained to us. It's only there in Arabic. (During the course of the visit we learned that the current daily menu is always published on Facebook.) Daily menu, we were told, because you never know in advance what fresh ingredients you will get in the souks (markets). Almost a guarantee for fresh ingredients. We hadn't even decided on a dish before we already had soup on the table. We chose vegetarian couscous and spaghetti with seafood. The couscous was very fine, but very “spicy” for our German palate. The two restaurateurs probably noticed this because they then served us a kind of yoghurt drink (similar to Ayran, only without or with much less salt). My spaghetti with seafood tasted really great. It also had just the right amount of seafood on it. For dessert we were given 2 blood oranges (to peel yourself). They were very interesting in terms of taste, and even more so visually. Red on the outside and orange on the inside. The price was around €6 per person. including soft drinks, a very cheap meal for the high quality of the food. We felt very comfortable and welcome and will definitely come back again. Thank you for the hospitality! 😀

(Translated by Google) I agree with the other comments, I loved eating several times in this restaurant serving local Tunisian specialties; it deserves much more than 5 stars not only for the food but also for the warm atmosphere. The meals are good and plentiful at affordable prices. We always offer you a glass of tea at the end. The team is very welcoming. Thank you, I will come back with pleasure.

Panneau "I Love Monastir"

(49)
If you're wandering through the charming coastal city of Monastir, don't miss the iconic "I Love Monastir" sign! Nestled conveniently near the stunning Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba and adjacent to the historic Ribat, this vibrant panel is a perfect backdrop for capturing your holiday memories. Positioned above a beautiful public beach, it offers not only a picturesque setting but also a serene atmosphere that reflects the upscale vibe of this lovely Tunisian destination.
One of the more cleaner, calmer and upmarket areas of Tunisia I have been too!!
Taku K — Google review
The view is better than the sign. It's a good vantage point on the side of the Ribat and shows the calm Mediterranean sea

Great sign to take a memorable holiday picture.

Very nice place, one can take hourse carriage rides from here for 20-30 dinar, not from the very nice beach

Museum of the Ribat

Museum
The Museum of the Ribat, located in Monastir, was once a prayer hall and now houses a diverse collection of traditional fabrics, coins, jewelry, and pottery that provide a glimpse into the world of coveted Islamic art. One of its notable exhibits is an ancient astrolabe dating back to 927, showcasing pivotal discoveries in astronomy and mathematics. The museum also offers great views from the tower of Monastir overlooking the Mediterranean and port facilities.
This is a small but significant museum located in the Ribat. Apparently it was once a prayer hall but now has a collection of traditional fabrics and objects such as coins, jewellery and pottery. It also has an astrolabe which is a device that measures the distance between stars and dates back to the year 927. I missed this & only found out a couple of days later. So look for it.

Very well nice place historical place to visit. Which contain an accessible high tour in which you can see the hole are from the top including the city, Marina & the sea side
Wael A — Google review
The place is overall very nice looking and with it having a lot of events happening here. My main problem and why I am giving this place 3/5 stars is because it is not kept in nice state in inside. There is garbage and worse stuff in some areas. Graffiti and damaged walls inside the Ribat. Overall it is meh with all that.
RasmetTv — Google review
The Ribat itself- 5* absolutely. But the museum- 3* The 1,200 year old Ribat is fascinating. It's huge and so well preserved - see photos - you can almost feel the religious, cultural and protective historical significance of it. However, the museum within was small, artefacts were minimal and the lack of information in English was disappointing and surprising considering the vast majority of visitors are tourists. Paying £2 / 16 dinar to enter the Ribat (excellent value) gives you free entry to the museum within.
D — Google review
We didn’t actually go inside the sign outside said 5000 dinars!? Outside the view is beautiful and we walked down to the beach 🏝️

Best syrian restaurant in the area ! This is one of my favorites: Staff is nice and very quick The food is good, delicious and generous. Maybe its lacking some vibes, but overall, we were satisfied and we got yummy food.

We wanted to try the oriental food so we went here because of the good reviews. We tried the Orionto+ menu with some Kebba and Sambussa; presentation was nice, service was not that good, quantity was generous but was expecting more delicious taste compared to other oriental restaurants.

I came here with my family after spending a couple of hours sightseeing in Monastir. It is a comfortable modern dining with plenty of choices to choose from on the menu. We loved all our dishes, especially their pizza, it was mouthwatering! Also very good prices for such high quality food.

Really great experience! The waitress was very kind. The food was amazing! The pasta had so much flavor and the pizza dough also very nice. 10/10 would recommend!

The price quality ratio is ok. Some accompanying parts of the fish dish were cold. And concerning the chef pasta, it was a bit weird, to be honest. The flavours of the sea food weren't there. And the sauce didn't have any taste. Overall, it was ok.
