Arulmigu Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple, situated in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, is a renowned Vishnu temple dating back to 1053. It is known for its stunning Dravidian architecture and intricate stone carvings. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Varadaraja Perumal and holds great significance for Vaishnavites as one of the 108 Divya Desams.
I visited Arulmigu Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple today, and it was a truly divine experience. The temple’s architecture is stunning, with beautifully carved pillars and a peaceful atmosphere all around. The temple opens at 8:00 AM, and it gets a little busy after that, but darshan is still manageable. The main speciality of this temple is the powerful presence of Sri Varadharaja Perumal, and the entire place feels spiritually uplifting. The campus is clean, spacious, and very well maintained. A must-visit temple for anyone coming to Kanchipuram. However, I felt that the management is a bit money-minded, which could be improved for a better visitor experience. Still, the temple itself is beautiful, peaceful, and full of spiritual energy.
Bimal R — Google review
A grand old temple, deeply beautiful and full of divine energy. The Varadaraja Perumal Temple is among the largest in Kanchi, yet carries a sense of calm and reverence. The architecture is spectacular — soaring gopurams, wide corridors, many shrines, and elaborate halls that tell stories in stone. The temple is dedicated chiefly to Lord Vishnu (Varadharaja), and also houses shrines for Lakshmi, Narasimha, Sri Sudarsana and other divine forms. One of its finest features is the 100-pillared mandapam (hall) built by the Vijayanagar kings — no two pillars are alike, and each bears delicate carvings of mythological scenes, divine forms, yalis, celestial beings, and stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata. Inside the large temple complex you’ll find multiple mandapams and halls; in total there are hundreds of pillars in different parts of the temple. The complex covers a vast area (about 23+ acres) and has three major precincts (prakarams). One of the most enchanting spots is the shrine of Chakratalvar (Sudarshana) near the temple tank. The image of Sudarshana here is grand and rare, often drawing devotees especially interested in that form. There is also a sacred tradition about the Atthi Varadar — a wooden (fig-wood) deity stored in a secret chamber underwater, brought out once in every 40 years for worship. That said, parking is limited around the temple. Be prepared for tight streets and few spots, so arriving early or using local transport is advisable. All in all, this temple is not just a shrine but a living testimony to art, faith, and history. If your journey leads through Kanchipuram, this must be on your spiritual and architectural map.

Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram is a magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, known as Varadarajar – “the King who grants boons.” The architecture is breathtaking, with grand gopurams and the famous 100-pillared hall. A special highlight is the golden and silver lizards on the ceiling—touching them is believed to wash away sins and bring good luck. Parking is available close to the temple. The streets outside are lined with shops for flowers, prasadam, and the world-famous Kanchipuram silk sarees. Kailasanathar Temple and Ekambareswarar Temple are nearby, and there are many vegetarian restaurants serving tasty South Indian meals. A wonderful mix of devotion, history, shopping, and food.
Sandhya S — Google review
Visiting the Varadharaja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram was a truly divine experience. The moment I stepped inside, there was a sense of calm and devotion that words can hardly describe. The temple’s grand architecture, intricate carvings, and peaceful atmosphere make it one of the most sacred places in South India. The idol of Lord Varadharaja Perumal is majestic and radiates such spiritual energy that you naturally feel blessed. The temple is beautifully maintained, and the priests conduct the rituals with deep reverence. Walking around the ancient corridors and witnessing the gopurams (towers) reminded me of the timeless devotion that has kept this place alive for centuries. If you visit Kanchipuram, this temple is a must. It’s not just a place of worship, but a journey into faith, history, and serenity.
Varadharaj V — Google review
The origins of the temple trace back to the Pallava period, but major expansions and renovations were undertaken by the Cholas and especially the Vijayanagara kings. The temple is an extraordinary example of Dravidian architecture, with contributions from dynasties such as the Cholas, Pandyas, Cheras, Hoysalas, and Vijayanagara Nayaks. The walls of the temple complex contain over 350 historic inscriptions that document donations, royal patronage, and temple events across centuries. Spread over 23 acres, the temple is known for its grand seven-tiered Raja Gopuram (tower), massive stone walls, and immense courtyards. There are three main precincts, around 32 shrines, nearly 20 Vimanas, a majestic 100-pillared Kalyana Mandapam (marriage hall) with exquisite sculptures, and a temple tank called Anantha Saras. The main sanctum sits atop the Hastigiri hillock, accessed by a flight of steps, and houses the main deity Varadharaja Perumal in standing posture, with Sun rays illuminating the idol on a special day after Chitra Pournami in April-May. Perundevi Thayar, his consort, has a separate shrine at ground level, and many other Vaishnava icons and saints, including shrines for Ramanuja, the Azhwars, and Narasimha, can be found within the temple. A unique feature is the sacred idol of Athi Varadar (crafted from fig wood), which is preserved underwater in the temple tank and brought out for public worship only once every 40 years. The artistry in the Kalyana Mandapam—including intricate chain carvings from a single stone and mythological panels—is a highlight of the Vijayanagara period. The magnificent gopurams, 100-pillared marriage hall, and beautifully carved shrines are awe-inspiring, with the entire complex radiating a sense of ancient devotion and spiritual strength. festivals such as Brahmotsavam and Garuda Sevai draw huge crowds, with vibrant traditions and processions. Dress code is traditional not necessarily dhoti saree but simple enough to enter the temple Visiting the temple is an immersive experience, whether admiring the historic sculptures, receiving darshan of the grand standing idol, or touching the legendary golden lizard for blessings.
Mahesh K — Google review
After Kanchi Kamakshi temple you can visit Vishnu Kanchi where you can have Darshan of Narasimha Swamy and then Vishnu Murthy and golden Lizard that is believed to wipe off your sins. The temple can be better maintained but people over there were very helpful to visitors guiding them as required. The original main idol is mentioned to be stored in the kolanu(water body) in a silver box into which even water can’t enter and taken out last time between 2019-2020 and will be taken out once again in next 42 years to perform the Pooja. They saved this idol to protect it from Muslim Rulers who destructed several epic temples in South to destroy Hindu community and cultural traces.

The temple is living testament of wonder of our ancient architecture. Temple is spread in a large area with a big pond. Apart from main deity there multiple small temple of god & goddess. The temple need maintenance. Many part of the temple is found to be detoriating. We visited there on a Saturday forenoon. We spent almost 1.5 hours in this temple. There were no rush during our visit to the temple. 100 pillar Mandapam is magnificent. Roadside parking is available around the temple. Do visit this temple to know about our ancient history & architecture.

A magnificent and divine temple with stunning Dravidian architecture. The carvings and sculptures are truly mesmerizing. The main entrance gopuram is currently under construction, but the temple remains open for darshan. It’s peaceful and well-maintained, offering a great spiritual experience. Nestled in the historic town of Kanchipuram, the Shri Chitragupta Swamy Temple stands as a remarkable 9th-century edifice dedicated to Lord Chitragupta, the divine accountant and minister of Yama, the God of death. This unique temple is one of the very few in India that honors Chitragupta, making it a significant pilgrimage site for devotees seeking his blessings.
A small but well maintained temple dedicated to Chitragupta, the assistant of Lord Yama. It is very peculiar as there almost no other temples dedicated to Chitragupta anywhere in India. Good for a quick visit near the bus stand.

The Sri Chitragupta Temple in Kanchipuram is a unique and spiritually significant site, as it's one of the few temples in India dedicated to the Hindu deity Chitragupta. According to legend, he is the divine accountant who records the good and bad deeds of humans, assisting Lord Yama in the final judgment. The temple's history dates back to the 9th century, with its original structure built by the Chola dynasty. The temple is generally open for darshan from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then again from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM every day. However, it's always best to check in advance for any changes. The most important festival celebrated here is Chitra Pournami, which takes place on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Chithirai (around April-May). This is considered the birth anniversary of Lord Chitragupta, and devotees flock to the temple to seek blessings and absolution for their past deeds. Special pujas are also held on new moon days. It's a truly special and serene place to visit. For more information and visuals, check out my YouTube chennal @pravrutha

The Chitragupta Temple is a Hindu temple located on Nellukara Street in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. It is one of the few temples devoted to the Hindu goddess Chitragupta, who is considered to be the aide of Yama, the Hindu god of death. According to legend, Yama pleaded to Shiva for help in accounting for people's misdeeds and good actions on earth. Shiva informed Brahma about Yama's hardships and requested that he give him with an assistance. Lord Brahma kindled a fire within the Sun. The rainbow was formed through the power of the Sun. It transformed into a girl named Neeladevi. On the full moon day of Chithirai month, the Sun and Neeladevi gave birth to a son. His name was Chitragupta. At birth, the youngster held a palm leaf or book in his left hand and a writing nail (pen) in his right. People bring him rainbow-colored material to satisfy him because he was born from one. This temple is dedicated to Lord Sri Chitragupta who is also a Manas- Putea of Lord Brahma and minister of lord Yama. Sri Chitragupta keeps records of human deeds. The statue is depicted as a holding pen and inkpot. In india (among the Kayastha community) we worship the lord on the 2nd day from diwali on Shukla Paksha in kartik month. The local & Central government must understand the religious sentiments. This is perhaps the few temples in the world dedicated to Lord Sri Chitragupta swamy. Hence must provide road widening, cleanliness near the temple... People throng temples on a particular day to worship the lord on special occasions. I visited Chitragupta Puja to worship here. Very divine place. On Sri Chitraguptaye Nam:

This large ancient temple is located in the heart of the Kanchipuram city in Tirukachur area and has reference to Koorma Avatar of Lord Vishnu in mythology. When the tortoise, lifted the mountain on its back, its arrogance increased manifold and Shiva destroyed its arrogance and wore its shell on his garland and hence came to be called Kachabeswarar (kachabam meaning tortoise in Sanskrit). As is the case with all the Shiva temples in Kanchipuram, there is no separate shrine for Goddess here also and the Lord is worshipped as both Kachabeswarar and Soundaravalli. The area around the temple is quite dense with shops and full of traffic. It is a bit difficult to find a parking place for the vehicle. However, this is one of the popular temples of Kanchipuram and a visit to the temple city would remain incomplete without darshan at this temple. Om Nama Shivaya |

The Sri Kachabeswarar Temple in Thirukachur, Kanchipuram, is a magnificent and ancient temple with a unique mythological tale. It is believed that Lord Vishnu, in his Kurma (tortoise) avatar, worshipped Lord Shiva here to gain the strength needed to support Mount Mandara during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean). This divine event gives the temple its name, "Kachabeswarar," and makes it a rare pilgrimage site revered by both Shaivites and Vaishnavites. The temple's history dates back to the Pallava dynasty, with later contributions from the Cholas and Vijayanagara rulers, reflected in its impressive Dravidian architecture and intricate stone carvings. The temple is generally open for darshan from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then again from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM every day. However, timings may vary, so it is advisable to check in advance. The temple celebrates several important festivals with great fervor, including Shivaratri and Pradosham. The Brahmotsavam festival is also a major annual event. Devotees also visit the temple to seek blessings for the removal of planetary doshas and for spiritual growth. It's a peaceful and historically rich place that offers a profound spiritual experience For more information and visuals, check out my YouTube channel @pravrutha.

I recently visited Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amma Temple, and it was a truly peaceful and blessed experience. The temple has a very calm atmosphere that makes you feel relaxed as soon as you enter. One of the main specialities of this temple is the powerful presence of Kamakshi Amma, believed to bless devotees with peace, protection, and prosperity. The surroundings are well-maintained, and the overall vibe is very positive. From 8:00 AM onwards, it feels a little busy, but still manageable for devotees. It’s a perfect place to sit quietly, pray, and feel divine energy. A must-visit for anyone seeking spiritual comfort and blessings.

Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple is a beautiful and sacred place to visit in Kanchipuram. There are dedicated temple chappal stands outside where you can safely keep your footwear before entering. The temple doesn’t have any VIP tickets, so everyone goes through the regular queue for Darshan. Prasadam is distributed inside the temple premises - don’t forget to collect it after your visit. A truly divine experience overall.

Visited the Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram on a Saturday morning in November. Dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi, one of the most revered Shakti Peethas, the temple’s Pallava-era architecture and calm energy make it truly special. Darshan took about 20 minutes, smooth and well-organized even on a weekend. There’s ample parking nearby, though it fills up quickly. The area around the temple has many shops selling Kanchipuram silk sarees and traditional items, adding to the experience. The free prasadam is simple, warm, and served with devotion. Overall, a serene and memorable visit — a must when in Kanchipuram. 🙏

Visited on week end. Expected to be too crowded but it was not so much. There was waiting que for about half an hour. Parking a car is very difficult. Private parking is available at south entrance charged at Rs. 70. But getting it into south entrance had its own challenges it's highly conjusted area. Better reach as early as possible to avoid overwhelming traffice and congestion. Otherwise things were pretty well. Temple is well maintained and there is no entrance fee as well.

Kanchi Kamakshi temple. Temple can be better maintained but with the limitations it is still being maintained well. Visited the temple during Dasara time but the rush was moderate and took 30 min for Ammavari Darshan.

Must visit place in Kanchipuram … Shankar’s matam is one of the main places to visit and it brings a lot of sanctity and peace . Parking is slightly tough here . When we went , they were doing abhishekam for periyava and it was really blissful. The large hall was airy and it can seat a lot of people . One of the main places in history of Hindu religion . Had a good time and will surely go back everytime we go to Kanchipuram. 🙏🙏 hara hara sankara , Jaya Jaya sankara ..

Ekambaranathar Temple, also known as the Lord of Mango Tree, is a 12th-century Hindu temple complex in Kanchipuram. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it showcases the architectural brilliance of the Chola dynasty. The temple features tiered towers and a colorful pillared hall, drawing thousands of visitors annually. One of its most notable attractions is a 3,500-year-old mango tree on the premises.
The most famous and oldest temple in kanchipuram. Which had 1000 sivalinga and 1008 pillers and very big and very oledest temple in chennai kanchipuram. But less crowd compared to kanchi kamakshi temple, we are visited on friday, no wait. Temple surronding are very neat. The koneru in temple was dirty

A peaceful and divine temple with beautiful traditional architecture. The main gopuram is currently under construction, and once completed, it will look even more majestic. There’s no luggage counter, so it’s better to avoid carrying bags. A must-visit place in Kanchipuram for its spiritual atmosphere and heritage beauty.

One of the divine abodes of Lord Shiva, which is one of the Panch Bhootha Sthalams representing the 5 elements. Temple space is very vast and there is a famous Mango tree inside the premises which is a must visit. The temple is under construction and hence many access points are restricted from public. Looking forward to visit the temple again after renovation(Dec 2nd week).

We visited this temple on the Saturday evening. There was no rush at all. Temple entry is free & there weren't any special queue. The temple is magnificent and wonder of architecture. The temple is spread in large area. There is ample car parking space. The Shankaracharya Muth is very near to this temple. We felt a divine experience while visiting this temple.

Ekambaranathan Temple in Kanchipuram is one of the most ancient and sacred Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu. Built around the 12th century, it showcases stunning Tamil architecture with a tall ten-tiered gopuram and hundreds of beautifully carved pillars, each telling mythological tales. The temple is famous for its 3500-year-old mango tree, believed to represent the four Vedas. Though parts of the temple are under renovation, it remains clean and peaceful, with fewer crowds than Kamakshi Temple. Visiting with an authorised guide helps understand its spiritual and historical significance. Truly a must-visit heritage site in Kanchipuram.

Ancient temple with Tamil Architecture. A shiva temple constructed probably in 12 th century. Most of the temple is under renovation. The front gopura is almost ten storied. Each column (there are hundreds of them) depicts a mythological story. There is a Mango tree which is believed to be 3500 old... that's the story. One must visit this place for its architectural marvel. Good along with authorised guide to understand the significance and history.

Big and beautiful! There are no strict rules for photography, except for the garbhgruha of the temple. The 3000-year-old mango tree is located at the backside of the temple.

Ekambareswarar Temple in Kanchipuram (Tamil Nadu) is one of the most ancient and grand temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to Puranas, Goddess Parvati performed penance under a mango tree to win Lord Shiva’s hand in marriage. She fashioned a Shiva Lingam out of sand, and when the river threatened to wash it away, Shiva protected it by spreading his hand over it — thus blessing her devotion. Built in Dravidian style, expanded by Pallavas, Cholas, and Vijayanagar Kings.

Vegetarian restaurant
Upashana Hotels in Kanchipuram offers a casual dining experience with traditional South Indian cuisine. The restaurant is known for its vegetarian options and serves dishes like idli, dosa, and veg biryani. The ambience is low-key, making it a great spot to enjoy authentic South Indian flavors. Additionally, the restaurant provides various payment options and has good parking facilities.
During my stay at Sree Sakti Residency in Kancheepuram, I had the chance to dine at Upasana Restaurant, conveniently located on the ground floor of the hotel. Being a pure vegetarian restaurant, it turned out to be a delightful experience, and I must say – it was amazing! We ended up having almost all our meals here, and every dish we tried was consistently delicious. The idlis were soft, fluffy, and paired beautifully with a variety of chutneys and their flavorful sambar. For breakfast, we also enjoyed the Rava Onion Masala Dosa, Ghee Masala Dosa, and crispy Medhu Vadas – all served fresh and hot. For lunch and dinner, we tried dishes like Fried Rice, Paneer Butter Masala, Onion Kulcha, along with refreshing drinks like Lime Soda and Watermelon Juice. Everything was prepared with care, tasted homely yet restaurant-style, and the quality was absolutely on point. Another plus is their timings – the restaurant opens as early as 6:30 AM and serves until 10:30 PM, making it convenient for both early risers and late diners. Overall, Upasana offers a perfect combination of authentic South Indian flavors, North Indian dishes, refreshing beverages, and warm service. Definitely a must-visit if you are in Kancheepuram!

I recently visited Upashana Hotels and liked the food overall – the taste was great and well-prepared. However, the portion sizes felt smaller compared to the prices charged. One major disappointment was that they had run out of most items by 8:30 PM, which was quite inconvenient. Service and ambience was decent.

My rating is for the location of the hotel, its like a center place and easily found. The staff are friendly, they serve almost all south indian breakfast. Lunch/dinner donot have rice meals. Idiyappam was good, pongal was tasty. Coffee was also good. Service is fast. More items to be included and it is good if all items on menu are available.

Upashana Hotel enjoys a prime location right in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible for both business and leisure travelers. Its central position allows guests to explore nearby attractions, markets, and transport hubs with convenience. The parking space, however, is quite limited, which might pose a challenge for visitors arriving with their own vehicles, especially during peak hours. On the culinary side, the hotel offers above-average food quality, with a menu that balances taste and variety. While not gourmet, the flavors are satisfying, and the overall dining experience is pleasant. In terms of cost, the hotel stands out for its reasonable pricing, offering good value for money when compared to other establishments in the same area. The management also maintains good hygiene standards, ensuring that rooms and common areas are kept clean and well-maintained. This adds to the comfort and peace of mind of its guests.

Meat and Eat Family Restaurant offers an amazing dining experience with delicious food and ultimate decor. While the service and taste are excellent, there is room for improvement in serving time. Biryani restaurant
Non vegetarian restaurant
Nestled conveniently near the bus stand, Arrabath Hotel may appear unassuming at first glance, but it is a hidden gem for biryani lovers. Renowned for its authentic seeragasamba biryani, this spot serves up some of the most flavorful chicken and mutton dishes you can find in Kanchipuram. Diners rave about the perfectly cooked chicken that’s both crispy and juicy, making each bite a delightful experience.
At first look, it’ll look like any other old hotel opposite to the bus stand. Don’t be fooled, their authentic seeragasamba briyani is something mind-blowing. I had a half plate chicken briyani & a half plate mutton liver here. The masala used was rich in flavour and the aroma is top knotch. Best thing is, you won’t have any belching or heartburn post this food. It’s that good!

I have been there to this hotel recently for having breakfast. This veg hotel is close to the temple so if you are going for darshan you can park the car in the temple parking and walk to this hotel. The service was really good, the person who took the order was very courteous. The order got delivered quick and the taste of the food was really good too. They have quite a bit of varieties in the menu. The mini tiffin they served can be improved a little in terms of quantity. Apart from that everything looks good. Nestled in the heart of Kanchipuram, the Kailasanathar Temple stands as a testament to ancient Dravidian architecture and spirituality. This remarkable temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, was constructed between 685-705 AD by the Pallava Dynasty and is celebrated for its intricate stone carvings that adorn its pyramidal tower. Visitors are often captivated by the stunning depictions of half-animal deities and the impressive 58 sub-shrines that encircle the main structure.
As per my learning this is the first Temple built by arranging stones and sculpture. They used a stone verity called sand stone, which is easy to make sculpture. Now we are not able to see the paintings. In my younger years, I have seen the paintings. From outside it seems to be small, but inside there is a lot of sculpture. Excellent place.
T.Sivakumar S — Google review
We visited the Kailasanatha Temple around 10:00 in the morning, and the moment we entered, we were truly amazed by its architecture. The entire structure is built with stone, and the carvings were so intricate and detailed that it felt like every pillar and wall had a story to tell. Inside the temple, we saw a huge Shiva Lingam, which gave the whole place a very divine and peaceful aura. The most fascinating part for me was the pillared designs – each pillar was beautifully carved and had a unique charm. We spent around one hour exploring the temple, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, admiring the artistry and soaking in the spiritual atmosphere before leaving with a sense of calm and appreciation for such an ancient masterpiece.

Very Very Excellent place of worship maintained by Archeological Survey of India Very near to Sri Kachabeswarar temple in Kanchipuram. Here Lingam (Shri Kailasanathar) is in sixteen faces shape or a double octagonal one. Height of the Deity also an impressive one. Architecture here in this temple remains a masterpiece and one cannot move away from here just like that. Circumbulation of The Deity Shri Kailasanatha is tricky one and really interesting and one cannot skip it on their visit here. It's a belief here one who circumbulate this tricky path there is no next birth here on this Planet Earth. Om NamaSivaya.

Very old and well maintained heritage temple. The age of the temple is well evident from the sculptures. Entry is free and parking is little problematic. There is no restriction on what to wear.
Vikas R — Google review
Kailasanathar Temple in Kanchipuram is an astonishingly beautiful heritage site—the oldest surviving Shiva temple in the region, Built around 700 CE by the Pallava king Narasimhavarman II (Rajasimha), with some additions by his son Mahendravarman III, it is dedicated to Lord Shiva and showcases the grandeur and ingenuity of Pallava craftsmanship The temple is a masterpiece of Dravidian architecture: its sandstone exteriors and granite structures are adorned with breathtakingly detailed carvings, including mythical creatures and intricate frescoes. The peaceful atmosphere here is a welcome change from the bustle of larger temples; with lush lawns and quiet surroundings, it is perfect for slow exploration and reflection. There are nearly 60 smaller shrines within the complex, elaborate walls filled with yazhi motifs, and a tunnel around the sanctum that makes for a unique experience. While not as expansive as some other temples in Kanchipuram, its fine artistry and sense of history make it a must-see for anyone interested in Indian heritage, architecture, or spirituality. Guides were not present, so reading up beforehand or seeking out the temple priest for stories is highly recommended. Photos are allowed, but remember to remove shoes before entering the premises. The temple’s artistry and layout later inspired great Chola kings—Raja Raja Chola I is said to have drawn inspiration for building the Brihadeeshwara Temple after visiting Kailasanathar Highly recommended for architecture lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an authentic heritage experience in Kanchipuram.

Arulmigu Sri Ulagalanda Perumal Temple, also known as Thiru Ooragam Temple, is an ancient Hindu temple located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is one of the 108 Divya Desams and features intricate Dravidian-style architecture. The temple houses a remarkable 35 ft.

Ulagalandha Perumal Temple is a place of worship located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. One of the Dhivya Desams of Lord Vishnu. The temple is glorified in the Naalayira Divya Prabandhams. Presiding deities: Ulagalandha Perumal, 35 foot in height, and his consort Lakshmi as Aranavalli Thayaar. Temple architecture style is Dravidian, was constructed initially by Pallavas, later contributions being from Cholas, Vijayanagara kings, and Madurai Nayaks. Legend has it that Lord Vishnu in his Vamana Avathar took the roopam of Ulagalandha Perumal after seeking Dhaanam from Chakravarthi Mahabali, the land size measuring his (Vamana) three steps. The Lord measured the universe in two steps. With no option available , the Chakravarthi offered his head for the Lord to place his third step.,The moral conveyed is one has to shed ego. Four other Divya Desams are in the same premises: Thiruooragam, Thirukaaragam, Thirukkarvaanam, and Thiruneeragam. Must visit when in Kanchipuram. Temple timings: 6 am to 12 noon and 5 pm to 8 pm.
Janardhan B — Google review
Sri Ulagalanda Perumal Devastanam Temple is located near Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple; most of the people won't visit this temple because of its lesser popularity. The temple's history is deeply rooted in the story of Lord Vishnu's Vamana avatar. As a dwarf Brahmin, Vamana asked the benevolent King Mahabali for just three paces of land. When the king agreed, Vamana grew to a gigantic size, covering the heavens with his first step and the earth with his second. When he asked Mahabali where to place the third, the humbled king offered his own head, a symbol of ultimate surrender and devotion. This temple is dedicated to this very form of Vishnu, known as Ulagalanda Perumal, the "Lord who measured the world." It's a truly humbling and awe-inspiring sight, with the main deity standing at a towering height of nearly 35 feet. The temple's architecture is a testament to its long history, with contributions from various dynasties like the Cholas and Pallavas. The ancient inscriptions on the walls whisper stories of devotion and royal patronage, making every corner of the temple a historical marvel. If you plan to visit, the temple is generally open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then again from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM every day. However, it's always a good idea to check for any special changes on festival days. The temple is a hub of spiritual activity, celebrating several important festivals throughout the year. The most significant are the Brahmotsavam, which takes place during the Tamil month of Thai (January-February), and Vamana Jayanthi, celebrated in the month of Avani (August-September) to commemorate the birth of Lord Vamana. Witnessing the special rituals and processions during these times is a truly unforgettable experience. Overall, it's a must-visit for anyone in Kanchipuram, offering a unique blend of spiritual solace, historical grandeur, and architectural beauty. I highly recommend it! A beautiful historic temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Vamana (Trivikrama) form. Built by the Pallavas and later expanded by the Cholas, it stands as one of Kanchipuram’s oldest and most sacred sites. The temple uniquely houses four Divya Desams — Thiru Ooragam, Thiru Neeragam, Thiru Kaaragam, and Thiru Karvaanam — within the same complex. Located near the bus stand and Kamakshi Amman Temple, it’s easy to access. Parking is limited due to narrow streets, but nearby shopping stalls selling pooja items, silk sarees, and snacks add local charm. A peaceful, must-visit spot for anyone exploring Kanchipuram. 🙏
Sandhya S — Google review
Today, I visited the Ulagalantha Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram, and it was a truly amazing experience. The temple is beautiful and has a powerful presence. The main idol of Lord Vishnu is huge and impressive—around 35 feet tall. He is shown in a unique form, with his left leg and hand raised, symbolizing how he measured the world, and his right foot on the ground, offering protection. This temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the most sacred temples of Vishnu mentioned by the Alwars. The name “Ulagalantha Perumal” means “The one who measured the worlds”. It’s based on the story where Lord Vishnu took the form of Vamana, a small Brahmin, and then grew into the giant Trivikrama form to humble the demon king Mahabali by measuring the earth, sky, and heavens in three steps. An interesting fact is that this temple also has three other Divya Desam shrines within the same complex. It’s located near the Kamakshi Amman Temple, in the heart of the city. While the temple is spiritually rich and powerful, it could be better maintained.
Jagankumar E — Google review
Visiting the Ulgananda Perumal Temple was a truly mesmerizing experience, with its gigantic 35-foot deity of Lord Vishnu in the Vamana avatar leaving a lasting impression. Situated in the heart of Kanchipuram and just a short walk from Kamakshi Amman Temple, this ancient temple stands out for its exquisite Dravidian architecture and deep historical significance. The main idol, with one leg raised to cover the sky and another pressing on Mahabali, beautifully depicts the legendary story of Vamana and Mahabali. The temple’s atmosphere is peaceful, and the premises are well maintained, making it ideal for a spiritual visit or even casual exploration for architecture enthusiasts. It’s especially notable that the temple houses four Divya Desams within its complex, adding to its uniqueness and sanctity. Entry is free, and timings make it convenient for both early morning and evening visits. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kanchipuram—whether for devotion, history, or a glimpse of Tamil Nadu's cultural heritage.

Nestled in a serene setting, the Sri Pandurangaa Swamy Temple is a vibrant and architecturally stunning Hindu temple complex dedicated to Lord Panduranga. Renowned for its resemblance to the original temple in North India, it offers a peaceful atmosphere where devotees can seek blessings from Lord Pandurangan and Ragumayi without overwhelming crowds. The temple features convenient amenities such as ample car parking and well-maintained restrooms for both men and women.
Beautiful temple with a lot of aura. very good for Bhajans. Lot of parking space, restroom facilities, a small restaurant available. Connectivity is only through personal vehicles or autos. please note: for men, shirt has to be removed for darshan
Ramkumar P — Google review
“A serene oasis of devotion and art in the heart of Tamil Nadu” Odisha‑style grandeur: The temple’s design—modeled on the Pandharpur Panduranga temple of Maharashtra—features striking temple architecture and vibrant deity decorations in a serene peaceful setting . Beautiful artwork: Exquisite ceiling and wall paintings, combined with the ceremonial adornments (alankarams) of Lord Pandurangan and Goddess Ragumayi, create a peaceful and uplifting ambiance . Well maintained & less crowded: Despite being impressive in scale, the temple remains clean, well-kept, and uncrowded even on weekends . Opening hours: Generally open 4 PM to 8 PM daily; on Wednesdays, the morning session begins 6:30 AM to 12 PM, along with the regular evening hours . Dress and decorum: Courteous modest attire is appreciated. Men may be asked to remove their shirts or banyans before entering the sanctum—this has been cited by some visitors as a concern . Best visiting times: Weekdays offer a quieter experience. Evenings are especially peaceful, as the temple fills with evening arti and soft chants .

Visited the Thenangur Panduranga Temple near Kanchipuram on a Saturday morning, and we were fortunate to witness a part of the 5-day Brahmotsavam celebrations. The temple was filled with divine energy and festive spirit. The next day was Swami’s Thirunakshatram (birth star day), and we had the rare chance to see the procession of the deity on a horse around the temple — a truly captivating and sacred sight. The presiding deity, Lord Panduranga, stands in a majestic 12-foot-tall form made from Saligrama stone, radiating spiritual strength and grace. The deity’s standing posture, known as Panduranga Kolam, is both powerful and peaceful. The temple itself is architecturally modeled after the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha. Its towering gopuram stands at 120 feet, with a 9.5-foot golden kalasam, crowned with a Sudarsana Chakra and saffron flag — all designed to inspire awe. Each day, the Lord is adorned in a different alankaram (decorative form): Sunday: As Mathurapuri Aalan (King of Mathura) Thursday: In the traditional Panduranga Alankaram Friday: With Silver Armor (Velli Kavasam) Saturday: As Tirupati Venkatachalapathi Another unique aspect is the temple's Sthala Vriksham (sacred tree) — the Tamala tree, rarely found in South India and commonly associated with Krishna lore in the North. Inside the sanctum, we had divine darshan of Lord Panduranga alongside Goddess Rukmini, both decorated beautifully. A noteworthy tradition here is that male devotees must remove their shirt and vest before entering the sanctum — a mark of purity and devotion. The sanctum remains covered by a screen until a priest narrates the story of the temple’s origin — explaining how it was established so that devotees from the South who couldn’t travel to Pandharpur in Maharashtra could still receive Lord Panduranga’s blessings locally. This temple is immaculately maintained, rich in tradition, and overflowing with spiritual vibrance. Whether you're in Kanchipuram, Vandavasi, or simply passing nearby, this temple is a must-visit for both its divine atmosphere and architectural beauty. Parking for vehicles is available with a charge of ₹50.

Sri Panduranga Swamy Temple in Vandavasi is a truly divine and peaceful place. The temple is well-maintained, and the atmosphere is very calm and spiritual. The idol of Lord Panduranga Swamy is so beautiful and powerful that one feels an instant sense of devotion and positivity upon entering the sanctum. The temple premises are clean, and the staff and devotees are very welcoming. Festivals and special poojas are conducted with great devotion, creating a vibrant and uplifting environment. It is a must-visit temple for anyone seeking blessings, inner peace, and a memorable spiritual experience in Vandavasi.

Surprised to see such a divine temple which is engraved with beautiful Architectural marvel. Thayar and Panduranga Swamy is blessing us in different alankaram on every day which is a special mention to this temple. Must visit!

This temple is identical to Pandaripuram Vittal nathan temple. The gopuram itself will reveal that . Inside the temple very calm& peaceful atmosphere.zThe temple is situated in Thennangur in between Vandavasi & Kanchipuram. When we were there the alankaram was Thirupati Venkatachala Perumal & Padmavathi Thayar Dharisanam. We stayed in the temple trust cottage which is very nice & clean. We have a very pleasant rememberance there. For food and other things we can have a hotel Vittal Bhavan which is also worthy to take.

South Indian restaurant
Saravana Bhavan is a popular chain restaurant known for its plant-based South Indian cuisine. The outlet offers a simple yet delightful dining experience with fresh and delicious food, excellent service, and clean surroundings. Conveniently located on a busy road with ample parking, it's a great option for quick meals. While the prices may be slightly higher, the Diwali special meals are highly recommended for their perfect dishes and attentive service.
Vibe: Casual and low-key, with a simple dining setup • Specialties: Vada, masala dosa, sambar, and pancakes—plus great coffee and masala chai • Service: Fast and friendly, though reviews mention mixed experiences with cleanliness

After a long time I come to taste 14idly sambar. Quite disappointed. The idly's were hard like rock and sambar taste is horrible.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ I had a lovely dining experience at Saravana Bhavan Restaurant, located within the premises of MM Hotels. The ambiance is neat, clean, and pleasant—perfect for a relaxed meal. The food was absolutely delicious—still mouthwatering as I write this! I tried their Mini Sambar Idly, Rava Dosa, and ended it with a cup of authentic South Indian Filter Coffee. The coffee was served in a traditional brass dabara set, and the waiter even mixed and served it in front of me, bringing back nostalgic memories of olden times. Truly a delightful touch! They also offer a variety of snacks and quick bites. Since I was staying at MM Hotels, I had the convenience of having dinner here. The portion sizes were good, and the menu had nice options to choose from. A small suggestion: it would be great if they could introduce South Indian meals during dinner, as I noticed many Andhra guests were requesting it. As for the service, the staff were courteous and wore warm smiles. However, one minor lapse was that water wasn’t served until I finished my dinner. This is something that could be improved. Overall, a great dining spot with authentic taste and a traditional feel. Will definitely recommend and visit again!

I did my mba at enathur Kanchipuram -2002-2004. The Saravana Bhavan here was the best . But today I took my kids after 7 years and my bad the food is not great , no taste 👅, not much of options . For some reason it’s not the SB as usual . We tried lunch and it was not good , tried poori and it was ok not the best . Dosa was ok , chapthi was ok , small idly was ok and Sambar vada was ok 👍 I can’t say it was the best Saravana bhavan …😝😝😝😭

The dinner was delicious with good taste and satisfying portions. Service was quick, and the food quality was impressive. Ambience could be improved, but overall it’s worth a visit for the food.
Amreen A — Google review
Saravana Bhavan has long been a name synonymous with quality South Indian food, a reputation that has unfortunately begun to fade over the years. My recent visit for a simple takeaway order was a stark reminder that the brand's customer service and operational efficiency have severely deteriorated. The first thing that strikes you upon entering is the complete lack of crowd management. The atmosphere is chaotic, with no clear system for handling dine-in and takeaway customers, leading to a frustrating and disorganized experience for everyone. My intention was to grab a quick takeaway meal, but the reality was anything but. I was made to wait for an astonishing 30 minutes for a basic meal option. This excessive delay is simply unacceptable for a takeaway order. By the time the food was finally ready, it had already lost its freshness and heat right there in the restaurant. The very essence of enjoying a hot, well-prepared meal was gone before I even had a chance to leave. What's more concerning is the general lack of basic etiquette from the staff. There's a noticeable absence of professionalism in how they handle customers. The experience leaves you feeling like just another number in a crowd, rather than a valued patron. Saravana Bhavan's management urgently needs to invest in training their crew. The staff needs to be equipped with the skills to manage crowds efficiently and interact with customers respectfully. Until they prioritize the customer experience and ensure that every visit feels worthy of the money spent, this legendary name will continue to lose its hard-earned reputation.

Food Review – Saravana Bhavan (Vegetable Brinji Rice) I recently ordered Vegetable Brinji Rice from Saravana Bhavan, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. Taste & Quality: The taste was extremely poor — overly spicy, with too much powdery masala. The flavour was so bad that I couldn’t even eat a single spoon. Honestly, even roadside food costing just ₹30 tastes far better and is more enjoyable. Hygiene & Packaging: The parcel room area was not clean and didn’t feel hygienic. Food was packed in low-quality plastic, which is unsafe and unprofessional. Staff hygiene was questionable, and overall cleanliness was missing. Value for Money: I was charged ₹200, but the food was not worth even ₹5. Completely overpriced for the quality served. Overall Experience: Food taste: 0/10 Hygiene: 0/10 Value for money: 0/10 Overall rating: ⭐ (Very very Poor) 👉 I strongly advise people not to waste your money here. The food and hygiene standards are far below expectations. Roadside eateries serve much better food at a fraction of the price. I ve lost and wasted my money

During a recent visit to Kancheepuram, I stumbled upon Honey Kitchen, a delightful non-vegetarian restaurant that truly exceeded my expectations. The ambiance was inviting and clean, setting the perfect backdrop for a satisfying meal. We indulged in an array of dishes including chicken biryani, honey prawns, BBQ chicken, mutton pepper curry, and chicken curry. Each dish was deliciously prepared with generous portions that left us feeling satisfied without breaking the bank.
Best hotel for non veg in kancheepuram. We have went recently to kancheepuram. Since it was very late everyone were hungry and tired. So we planned to go for a non veg restaurant. We found honey kitchen at our nearby place. The restaurant was very neat, and had a very good atmosphere. We were served with a welcome drinks and we ordered for chicken 65 and mutton briyani and ordered for some side dishes. Everything was really awesome, mainly the pepper chicken was really awesome.

2 of the 3 orders were not up to the minimum expectation, maybe value for money but there are lots of places where we can have value for money, low priced briyani than in this hotel. Mughal chicken briyani had a unique and different taste than normal briyani. Chicken briyani & Schezwan chicken noodles tasted same as in other hotels.

We have ordered chicken biriyani, honey prawns,BBQ chicken, mutton pepper curry and chicken curry ,and starters fish finger and chicken nuggets . Everything was excellent. The service is too good . I quite didn't like the mutton pepper . It's kinda sweet and informed the waitress about this .and she replaced with another mutton pepper curry which is too good to my taste . Highly recommend it to family who wants to enjoy lovely food with reasonable price and portions are right amount . My little one loved the honey prawns which is licious and we ordered another one at the end .

I ordered prawn briyani.. and they brought chicken briyani base few chicken peaches with prawns . And the manager karthi was explaining all other restaurants use to do the same. Hope on he's holiday he will eat prawn briyani in real restaurant (kamachi restaurant and other restaurants)who has real prawn briyani. This people charge for prawn briyani and not serving prawn . As manager Whatever briyani we order we get only chicken so better order chicken briyani. And dessert they served burned brownies. Which everyone accept that is burned and over reheated in microwave.

Mannar Military is a no-frills eatery with a military-style mess vibe that offers a variety of familiar multi-cuisine meals. It's renowned for serving some of the finest biriyanis in town, particularly their jeeraga samba biriyani cooked with very tender meat pieces. Customers appreciate the traditional style Seeraga Samba Rice used in their biriyanis, although some find the prices slightly high.
Food was extremely good. ADI POLI. Had Mutton Briyani. The spices was good. Portion for a typical Asian is considered can be shared by two pax. Next mutton nalli fry. Also super savadi (awesome). Next chicken lalipop. Very very savadi. (Very awesome) To be honest the atmosphere is not so clean but I would say it's acceptable. Overall I'd say super.

During my recent visit to Kanchipuram, I had lunch at Hotel Mannar Military. It's a medium-sized, no-frills biryani outlet, and my experience was fairly positive.🦀🍖🍗🥩🦐🦐🐓🐔🐠 I tried both the Chicken Biryani and Mutton Biryani. I found the Chicken Biryani to be tastier than the Mutton Biryani. The chicken was well-cooked, flavorful, and the portion size was generous, making it sufficient for two people. As for the side dishes, we ordered Chicken Fry and Fish Fry. Both were quite good, with the Chicken Fry standing out in particular. 🦞🦐🦀🍖🍗🌸🦐☀️🔆🎉 One thing to note is that Hotel Mannar Military exclusively serves biryani; they do not offer white rice, rasam, or other typical accompaniments. This might be a strategic move to focus on their specialty, which they seem to do quite well. Overall, it’s an okay kind of hotel. If you're in the area and craving some good biryani, especially Chicken Biryani, this place is worth a visit.🦐🐓🐔🐠🦞🦀🍖🍗🔆🏵️🪷🌻

This is my all time favorite Biriyani and for my family. We travel to kanchi to taste this biriyani often. Unique flavoured biriyani. Not expensive. Biriyani made in Seeraka samba rice. Their speciality is their biriyani with chalna. Awesome taste. Much recommended for biriyani lovers. No parking available for cars. Restroom is in the first floor but not maintained well. It's for their own use. Air conditioned dining room is there. #kanchipuram #biriyani #mutton biriyani #mannar #chalna

Visited this place all the way from Chennai only to eat this signature biriyani. Biriyani was good. In my opinion Chicken Biriyani was good and Mutton biriyani was average. Pieces was really in huge quantity. All its side dish was good to taste too nothing to complaint. Biriyani was good since it had many pieces we tried to taste Biriyani alone(kushka) which they told they wont serve and only biriyani. So with no other go we re-ordered biriyani. Nestled in Tamil Nadu, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is a cherished wetland haven that has been lovingly preserved by locals for over two centuries. This sanctuary spans 30 hectares and stands as the oldest water bird sanctuary in India, attracting wildlife enthusiasts and tourists alike. With its rich biodiversity, it hosts an impressive array of over 40,000 birds including night herons, sandpipers, darters, and pintails.
I recently visited the bird sanctuary and had a wonderful time surrounded by nature. The area is serene, with a wide variety of bird species that are a delight to observe. The walking trails are well-maintained, making it easy to explore. It’s a great spot for photography, birdwatching, or just relaxing in a natural setting. I’d recommend going early in the morning for the best bird activity. A great experience for families and nature enthusiasts!

Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary, nestled in the Madurantakam taluk of Tamil Nadu, represents one of India's oldest and most celebrated wildlife sanctuaries. The name 'Vedanthangal' itself reflects its historic roots as a ‘hunter’s hamlet’, with the landscape evolving over centuries from a favored hunting ground to a nature sanctuary of international importance. Originating in the 18th century, it was declared a protected area under British colonial administration and today stands recognized as a Ramsar wetland, affirming its significance on a global stage for avian biodiversity. Upon arriving at Vedanthangal, visitors are greeted by an expansive and picturesque wetland, enveloped in greenery and bordered by a carefully maintained pathway that traces the edge of the lake. The sanctuary covers around 74 acres, and its tranquil ambiance is frequently punctuated by the calls of thousands of birds. With over 40,000 birds recorded during the migratory season, the site transforms each year into a living mosaic as flocks descend from as far away as Siberia, Australia, Canada, and Sri Lanka. Birdwatchers and nature lovers are treated to close-up views of painted storks, open-billed storks, spoonbills, herons, egrets, and pelicans, among others. The sanctuary’s unique draw is its accessibility—multiple watchtowers and viewing platforms overlook the breeding grounds and water bodies, making bird observation a delight even for casual visitors. The sanctuary experience is both educational and immersive. Near the entrance, a cool hall equipped with video displays narrates the stories and characteristics of hundreds of species that frequent the sanctuary. Facilities are focused on convenience with restrooms, clean drinking water, ample parking, and the ability to hire binoculars for closer views of nesting birds. There’s no restaurant inside, but the serenity of the setting more than compensates, encouraging visitors to linger and absorb the natural spectacle. Visiting Vedanthangal is best from November to March, when the migratory season is at its peak and birds are most active in breeding and nest-building. The sanctuary’s commitment to conservation and eco-tourism is evident in its strict guidelines, maintaining quiet, respecting wildlife, and promoting sustainable visitor practices. Dedicated to the well-being of both its feathered guests and human visitors, Vedanthangal stands not only as a haven for birds but also as a sanctuary for those seeking peace, beauty, and a deeper connection with nature.

The bird sanctuary is a small one not much to expect. There were lot of species of birds. They had small information center to know about the bird which comes to visit. The watch tower is a must try the incharge person shared lot about the birds. Its best to carry food to the place there is not a proper restaurant nearby. The place atmosphere is very nice with lot of trees and sitting bench.

Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is a 30-hectare protected Ramsar wetland that hosts huge numbers of birds particularly during the migratory season. Species that can be seen in great numbers include Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Oriental Darter, Black-headed Ibis, Spot-billed Pelican, and other waterfowl. Various other bird species can be seen in the surrounding trees and shrubs. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from November to March.

Another un-ticketed gem from colonial Dutch era with stables, granaries, gunnery and crypts of likely officers and executives from the Dutch East India Company. It's an obscure town but accessible multiple ways. The name is an anglicised version of Sadurangapattinam, which may have been hard on visitors. Built and expanded during the early 18th century this fort has seen numerous battles until being finally raided by British forces in early 19th century. I'm sure there are 'ghost' stories associated with this fort as well, sadly the locals there didn't have much to share except tired glances. The lawns are well manicured just outside the main walls and parking is along the roadside.

⭐⭐⭐ (3/5) – Great for Photos, Poor Maintenance Sadras Dutch Fort is a beautiful historical site but unfortunately not well-maintained. The fort’s colonial architecture and rustic charm make it an amazing spot for photo shoots, reels, and cinematic shots—giving a foreign feel in the pictures. The scenic backdrop, aged walls, and peaceful atmosphere create a perfect setting for photography enthusiasts. However, the lack of proper maintenance, broken structures, and absence of information boards take away from the historical experience. If you’re visiting for history, you might be disappointed, but if you’re looking for a unique photoshoot location, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Historical Dutch fort with cemetery of few people from 400 years ago. The fort is almost fully in ruins. ASI is trying to renovate it. The are a couple of granaries and some walls left. There is a huge tree and a well from the same period. A fort which would have turned out to be a nice historical site if it was preserved well. Historical references state that the fort was destroyed in a war. Some kind of museum and history should be present in the fort. We went during a Sunday and there was hardly anyone. Better to go as a group and avoid going alone as the place seems deserted. There are a couple of guards present in the front gate. There is a local beach closer to the fort.

The place is in ruins. Irony is that the garden in front of the fort is being maintained with more care then inside lol. The cemetery right after the entrance is locked, of course for good reasons. The rest there’s nothing much left. You get a good view of the ocean if you climb up one of the dilapidated fort.

Sadras or Sadurangapattinam is a place of history as it has the ruined remnants of a Dutch Fort in the 18th century. In it's vastness it has a humongous granary, stables and a section which houses the crypts of the Dutch people interred there. The tops of the crypts are elaborately inscribed in Dutch. This place is approached via ECR on the Pondicherry route and this junction can be reached from Mamallapuram via the Tirukazhukundram road. This is a scenic drive. The site is under ASI and obviously is not well tended to except a verdant lawn exquisitely maintained. It would if boards are put up giving the historical background of the place. The fort has 2 cannons facing west in it's entrance and the huge eastern wall hides the view of the Bay of Bengal.

It was wonderfully to go over there.. its no more a fort but they have tried there best to renovate some part of it. They maintained a lawn very well. It's peaceful if your sit below tarmarind tree. The people who are from the small city or a village they can feel the vibes of the place how peaceful it is..

Entrance is well maintained. On floor encryption on danish is locked. Some ruins are left. No much importance and details available unless we learn and experience it.

Sadras Fort Visit (30th Aug, 2025): We visited Sadras Fort today. The fort is not well maintained, and most of the old structures are broken, giving it a ruined look. Inside, there is also a Dutch cemetery. It’s a good place for those interested in history and ancient architecture, but not much is preserved... Free entry! Be prepared for the heat – there are no trees inside except for one tamarind tree with a few stone benches where you can rest. That’s the only shaded spot; the rest of the fort is completely open and hot, so carrying an umbrella or cap is a must. There are a few small shops outside, and the beach is close to the fort. Nearby, you can also see the Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station township, which is good with more trees, and there’s a lake and beach where you can spend some time...

Day 4

Off the beaten path
For day 4, if you don’t mind the extra trek, today covers more off the beaten path places like Sri Vaikunta Perumal Temple, Utthiramerur. Not quite as popular as Sri Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple, but still highly rated among many travelers. Accounting for getting around and average time spent, today’s activities could take about 8 hours.

Nestled along the scenic coastline, Alamparai Fort is a historical gem that dates back to 1735. This fort, primarily constructed from brick and limestone, offers visitors a glimpse into its storied past amidst stunning seaside views. While much of the structure has succumbed to time, the remaining walls stand as a testament to its former glory. The fort served as a natural port for Mughals and Nawabs in the 17th century, making it an intriguing stop on your journey.
Alamparai fort is a beautiful place but you can currently see ruined fort walls. The place is not maintained properly and it's better to visit during daytime. Now this place is mainly used for photoshoots. We can enjoy the beach vibe peacefully with less people.

Non tourist spot. Simple place. It is a fishing sea shore. You can see some 500 fishing boats here! Shore is full of different types of dead fish strewn around by fisher folks. A river meets the sea here and it is wonderful to see that delta... Small fishing community resides here... Wonderful to see the motley crowd going about their daily activities, group of children studying under the coconut tree, elders having a evening meeting, ladies gossiping and spending time together...

Scenic and Serene Spot with Historical Charm Alamparai Fort is a hidden gem near Pondicherry, perfect for those who enjoy scenic views, history, and peaceful backwater vibes. The fort itself is in ruins, largely due to age and lack of maintenance, but it still holds a rustic charm that makes it worth visiting—especially if you love photography or quiet, offbeat spots. One of the best parts of the visit was the backwater area. You can take a boat ride that leads you to a stunning sandbar between the beach and the backwaters—an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature. I visited on a full moon day, and the entire place looked magical with the moonlight reflecting off the water. It’s best to visit in the early morning or during the evening to avoid the heat and to catch the best views. Overall, a peaceful and scenic location for a short getaway, though I do hope some restoration or maintenance work is done in the future to preserve this beautiful piece of history.

What a disappointment this was. Fort is completely ruined and there is zero maintenance. Tourists are throwing garbage everywhere and the locals are exploitative. Don't visit this place after dark. This is an ASI protected monument for the sake of name. Apart from a few photogenic opportunities in a few select places, there is nothing here to entice anyone.

Visited Alamparai Fort, a hidden gem along the ECR road, nearly 123 km from my home — a long solo ride that truly made me understand the essence of solo travel. The fort stands near a peaceful beach, giving a rustic and calm vibe, though the area was completely deserted when I went. The weather was extremely hot, making it a bit uncomfortable, but the silence and history of the place made it special. Many came with their partners or families, while I explored it alone — a unique and personal experience.

I came to know that there are remains of the Sea fort at Alamparai near ECR Road constructed by Mugals. Immediately I decided to sea that fort. I went there with my daughter. It is sad to say that the damaged fort wall only now available to see. The width of the wall is around 5 feet. It still stands against the salt sea wind. Amazing. Some damaged walls have fell on the sea. Even the sea can't erode the wall. The environment and scrounging scenarios are very nice to see. Finally a good place to visit. Don't miss it. Several cinema shootings are done here (including Veyil)

This temple is under the management of ASI and more of heritage in nature. Bare minimum rituals are carried out to the deity - morning & evening, but the sannidhi is mostly closed. Access is granted to the outer areas of the temple during the day. This temple is adjacent to the town bus station in a busy area with no parking for 2/4 wheelers. This temple is known for extensive stone inscriptions from chola era & for the secret ballot ( குடவோலை) election of temple/town management democratic system. Considered as an inspiration to present day Panchayat Raj.

Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, here Vishnu is worshipped as Vaikunta Perumal and his consort Lakshmi as Anandavalli. The temple was originally built by Pallavas, with later additions from the Chola. The temple is known for the inscriptions indicating the democratic practises of electing representatives for the village bodies during the regime of Parantaka Chola (907–955 CE). This Vishnu Temple is mentioned in Narsingh Puran. This temple is the second oldest temple in Kanchipuram after Kailasanathar Temple. It was built by Pallava King Nandivarman II in the late 7th CE or early 8th CE and later maintained by the ruling Cholas and Vijayanagara kings. This makes it one of the earliest stone temples with Dravidian architecture. It would inspire the later temples in the region. During Nandivarman II’s time, the temple was called Parmeshwara Vishnugriham, after the original name of the king Parmeshwara. It later came to be known as Vaikuntha Perumal Temple. Perumal is the name used for Vishnu in Tamil country. This temple is one of the 108 Vishnu temples that collectively make 108 Divya Desams. The followers of Vishnu make it a point to visit all of them in their lifetime.

One of the oldest temple of Pallavar regime(around 1300 years). Perumal in all 3 forms of Sitting, Standing and Palli konda posture in 3 tier structure. Fortunate to worship all 3 forms at close quarters. Surprisingly you can see Shiva in top tier close to Perumal in standing posture. This can be seen in the morning and evening when the priest offer Neivedyam to Perumal. Must visit temple.

Hindu temple
In Kanchipuram, the Arulmigu Sri Vilakkoli Perumal Temple, also known as Varadharaja Perumal Temple, is a significant site dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is part of the 108 temples visited by the Alwars of Lord Vishnu and holds historical and religious importance. The temple complex is well-maintained and peaceful, with the presiding deity being Deepaprakashar or Vilakkoli perumal.
This temple is situated very much near to Ashtabhuja Perumal temple in Kanchipurm. Deepa oli or Deepa Prakasha Perumal is also known as Thupool. Here Lord Vishu appeared before Goddess Saraswati. There's also Lord Hayagreeva temple and Maha Acharya Desika shrines. This is the birth place of Acharya Desikan. There are also shrines for Mahalakshmi, Andal and Anjaneya.

One among the 108 divya desams, the deity here Vilakoli / Deepaprakasa (light from lamp). As per legend, Vishnu appeared as light from lamp to overcome darkness and hence the name. Also, do not miss the Hayagriva temple situated next to this temple. The temple tank is huge and clean

The presiding deity is Lord Deepa Prakasa Perumal, also known as Vilakkoli Perumal, who is worshipped in a standing posture facing west. The consort of Lord Vishnu, Maragathavalli Thayar, is worshipped in a separate shrine. The temple is known for its association with Lord Hayagriva and is considered beneficial for education. Arulmigu Sri Vilakkoli Perumal Temple, also known as Sri Deepa Prakasa Perumal Temple or Thiruthanka, is the 45th Divya Desam.

Many divyadesams in Kanchi arose because of Brahma's ashvamedha yaagam which was disrupted by Saraswathi who was angered by Brahma's performance of the yaagam without her. Everytime there was a threat, Perumal - The Protector assumed different Forms. He assumed eight Hands and became Ashtabhuja Perumal, He assumed The Nrisimha Form at Tiruvellukai, He became a Dam at Tiruvehkha and when darkness enveloped Kanchi mahanagaram and Brahma panicked He became Deepaprakasa and lit the whole place. He pacified Saraswathi and the yaagam was completed without further disturbances. The lighting of a simple lamp puts an end to the entire darkness in a room. Imagine the emergence of 'The One who is brighter than a thousand suns!' 'This is Deepaprakasa whom Swami Desikan - a walking encylopedia calls 'adwithiya' (One without a second). If Perumal is the Light, Thayar is the 'Prakasham' (the brightness). If dwaya mantram were to be given a Form we see it as Maragathavalli and Deepaprakasar. This temple can be reached from Varadaraja Perumal temple by auto (autos charge about Rs.50), share autos stop at Rangaswami kulam or one can take public buses. It is about 3km from here. If pilgrims are visiting in the morning it is a good idea to visit Thoopul around 10 0'clock and participate in the morning sattrumurai. One feels homely at this temple and the bhattar swami is friendly. Since acharya shows us Perumal we first pray at Swami Desikan sannidhi and then proceed to Vilakoli Perumal temple. After offering prostrations at the dwajasthambam we offer anjali to Garudazhwar and turn right to worship Thayar. Maragathavalli is Her name and She arose out of the lotus filled waters near Vegavathi and embraced Deepa Prakasar, thus making Him glow even more. Maragathavalli is in seated posture facing east. The Theertham here goes by the name 'Sri Lakshmi Saras'. After worshipping Her we went to Deepaprakasar sannidhi which is under the Srikara vimanam. We saw Samudramanthanam depicted on the gopuram entrance and remembered how Perumal got amrutham for the gods and 'Penamrutham' Lakshmi for Himself. As we moved in we noticed to our left Ananthazhwan, Vishvaksenar, Poigai azhwar, Nammazhwar, Tirumangaiazhwar, Alavandar and Ramanujar. As we proceeded to the sanctum sanctorum we had darshan of Vilakoli Perumal in ninratirukolam with Sriya and Vasudha facing west. This then was the Perumal worshipped by Swami Desikan from childhood. It is noteworthy that while swami Desikan eulogises Sri Rama, Krishna, Sri Devanatha, Sri Varadaraja etc, in different stotras the stotram offered to Deepaprakasar bears the name 'Saranagathi-Deepika'. Sarangathi is the lamp which destroys agnana and leads us to moksha. The identity of the Lord, the means to attain Him, the angams of prappathi, the post-prappathi period, The Pancharaatra and Vaikanasa modes of worship and the archiraddhi margam are described in this outpouring of 59 verses. Swami Desikan describes Prappathi as the marriage of jeevatma (the bride) with Paramatma (the bridegroom) and acharyan is the bride's father. After offering our prayers at His sannidhi we came out and visited the sannidhi of Andal who is in ninratirukolam facing east. After worshipping Her we did pradakshinam and saw to our left Sri Saraswathi pushkarni. L As we moved along we saw jasmine, parijatha and other flowering plants. As we turned right there was a cow and a calf and a whole mound of hay. The smell of fresh cowdung was holy and the shed was maintained clean. As we moved along we noticed mango trees and vakula (mazhiampoo) among others. The place was homely and made one want to sit around for some time. We visited this temple several times and noticed that two kinds of prasadams were distributed in the morning and three varieties in the evening. We were told that this has been possible because of 'Thoopul Trust'. If more people stayed around and participated in the upkeep of the temple it would be nice. Just adjacent to the temple is the temple for swami Desikan .

This is the birthplace of Sri Vedanta Desika (or Swami Desikan, Swami Vedanta Desikan, Thoopul Nigamaantha Desikan). Vedanta Desika (1268–1370) was one of the most brilliant stalwarts of Sri Vaishnavism in the post-Ramanuja period. He was an ardent devotee of Deepa Prakasar Temple at Thoppul. Sri Desikan is a gift to his mother who prayed to Lord seeking for a child. Responding to her prayer, Lord of Tirupati – Lord Venkatachalapathi Balaji asked the bell in His hand to be born as the son of the mother. For this reason, bell is not used during pujas in Tirupati Balaji temple after this event. He was an outstanding scholar of highest degree in the Vaishnava scriptures. He rendered a large number of Sanskrit works in Tamil. He has also authored in Tamil the Adaikala Pathu (Asylum 10) on Lord Varadaraja Perumal

Astabuja Temple is a peaceful and beautiful temple in Kanchipuram, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The main idol is unique, with eight arms holding different weapons. It is also one of the 108 Divya Desams, which makes it very special for Vishnu devotees. The temple has a special Sorgavasal (gateway to heaven) that is opened during certain festivals. When I visited, I saw some horses around the temple, which added a nice traditional feel. The main deity looked amazing under the lighting used by the priest, and I heard that the idol was recently renovated, so it looked very fresh and divine. Overall, it’s a calm and spiritual place, worth visiting if you're in Kanchipuram.

Nestled in the historic town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, the Divyadesam 51 Sri Sonnavannam Seidha Perumal (Yathokthakaari) Temple is a sacred site dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Revered as Panadavathoothar Perumal, this temple is part of the esteemed 108 Divyadesams and showcases unique architectural beauty.
This temple in Kanchipurm is a divya desam of Vishnu. It is one among the 108 Tirupatis. This divine place is also the birth place of Poigai Azhwar. When we visited Poigai Azhwar festival was going on. You could see that in the picture below. Here, the main moolavar of Vishnu reclines on his Adisesha from Right to left resting on His left hand instead of the usual left to right. This is known as Maaru Sayanam. The pond here is known as Poigai Pushkarini. But presently the moolavar is in Balalayam as some work is going on Sanctum. One can still get a Darshan of Utsava Moorthy. Feel blessed as we could witness the special worship of festivites.

A wonderful and large temple located near ashtabhujakara Perumal temple. Unique feature of this temple is that the Perumal is in reclining posture on the left side, unlike in other temples where he is reclining on right side usually. A must visit!!!
TirthaVihari — Google review
This was the first time I was visiting this temple a few months ago and it literallly blew my mind. The reclining deity of Perumal (Shayana Kolam) was just awe-inspiring as though it was made of Bronze, that was the colour of the deity. Also in an unconventional fashion Perumal was reclining right to left. Normallly it is always left to right, i.e the head is at our left side. At his feet was Devi Saraswathi, another untoward thing as normally it is either Bhudevi or SriDevi or Prahlad or Garuda or any of the Saints. The Andal here is probably the most beautiful Andal one can find anywhere. At Andal's shrine we were told that even the priests from Srivilliputtur agreed that the Andal here was way more attractive than the Andal at their place. Considered the 51'st Divya Desam of Lord Vishnu, this is a temple not to be missed in Kancheepuram.

Yathothkari Perumal is believed to have appeared for Saraswati and Thirumalisai Alvar. Six daily rituals and three yearly festivals are held at the temple. The temple houses a rare image of Ranganatha recumbent on his left hand unlike other temples where he is recumbent on his right. Once there was an argument between Saraswati, the consort of Brahma and Lakshmi on superiority. They went to Indra, the king of celestial deities. Indra judged Lakshmi as superior and not satisfied with his argument, Saraswati went to her husband, Brahma. He also chose Lakshmi to be the superior one. Saraswati was unhappy with the decision and decided to stay away from Brahma. Brahma did a severe penance praying to Vishnu and did an ashvamedha yagna. Saraswati was still angry that the yagna, which usually is done along with consorts was done alone by Brahma. She tried to disrupt the penance, but Vishnu interfered with his serpent Adishesha. Saraswati, on seeing Vishnu in her path, accepted her defeat and subsided in the form of river Vegavathi. As Vishnu interfered the path of the river, it was termed Vegavani, then as Vegannai and gradually corrupted to Vekka. The presiding deity thus got one of his names, Vegasetu. As per historian Nagaswamy, the temple was called Vehha meaning Vishnu leaning as a slanted slope, which gradually became vekka. Once sage Bhargava had a son through Kanakangi, a celestial dancer. The boy was stillborn and was not fully developed during his birth. Kanakangi left his son under bushes and left to the celestial world. It is believed that the child was a divine incarnation of one of Vishnu's weapons, the Chakra. By the grace of Vishnu and Lakshmi, the baby became alright and began to cry. A childless farmer couple who were passing by took up the child, named him Sivavakkiyar and started rearing him. Once the boy reached adulthood, he was sceptical about choosing between Shaivism and Vaishnavism. He was defeated in arguments by Pey Alvar. He became a devotee of Vaishnavism and the disciple of Pey Alvar. Sivavakkiyar was also called Bhakthisarar and later as Thirumalisai Alvar. Thirumalisai had a disciple by name Kanikkannan. He also had an old lady serving him - Thirumalisai prayed to the presiding deity of the temple and by the grace of Bhujangasayana Perumal, the old lady became a beautiful young lady. The Pallava king who was ruling the region at that time got attracted by the lady and married her. With time while the king was growing older, the lady remained young. He called up Kanikannan and ordered to sing praise of him so that he also turned young. When he refused, the king ordered Kanikannan to be banished out of the country. Kanikannan explained this to his master Thirumalisai, who prayed to Bhujangasayana Perumal. When the king heard this, he ordered the three to be sent of the country, which they obliged. When the three left Kanchipuram, it was engulfed in darkness. Realising his sin, the king worshipped Bhujangasayana Perumal to return along with his two devotees. Since the presiding deity obliged to his devotees wishes, he is called Yathothkari Perumal. Yathothka means as requested and kari denotes the person who accomplishes the task. One of the Alvars, poet saints of the 7-10th century, Poigai Alvar was born at this temple.

Blissful and always blessing Thayaar. Must visit temple in Kanchipuram and closer to many divya Desam in Kanchipuram. Om Namo Narayana

🛕 How to Reach: From the Kanchipuram Bus Stand (Main Entrance), you can easily find several share autos heading towards Rangaswamy Kulam. From there, the temple is just a short walk away. ✨ Don’t Miss: The Andal idol here is exceptionally beautiful and unique. The Perumal is seen in a gigantic Sayana Kolam (reclining posture) — truly a divine sight. Saraswati Devi sits gracefully near Perumal’s Thiruvadi (holy feet), which is a rare and special darshan. Note: 1. Temple will be usually less crowded only. 2. Due to narrow and busy streets near the temple, parking the vehicles will be challenging.

I came to Kanchipuram to buy sarees for my wedding and for all my aunties, and I must say this shop was the best choice! They are wholesalers with very good prices — far more reasonable compared to Chennai — and the quality of the sarees is excellent. The service was simply awesome. Sarania was extremely patient and kind, helping us with tying the sarees and selecting the best ones. Selvi was also very helpful throughout. The entire team was so cheerful and supportive, patiently assisting us even though we spent almost 7 hours there! Truly, they made the experience so enjoyable and stress-free. A few days back, we visited Guhaas in Kancheepuram, and I must say the food was absolutely delightful! We ordered Punjabi Chicken Masala, Fish Fry, Masala Kulcha, Kerala Porotta, and Egg Fried Rice – every single dish tasted amazing. What impressed us the most was not just the quality but also the pricing. The quantity was generous, and everything was reasonably priced – can you believe the Egg Fried Rice was just ₹99? Truly value for money! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kancheepuram.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Guhaas Restaurant! The dishes are absolutely delicious, and there's a great variety of options to choose from. Whether you're craving something spicy or mild, there's something for everyone to try. I also appreciate that they offer special weekend deals, which makes it even more enjoyable. The prices are reasonable and in line with what you'd expect at any good restaurant. A few things to keep in mind: some of the dishes can be a bit salty, so it’s worth keeping an eye on that if you're sensitive to salt. Additionally, the restaurant has limited seating, so it’s best to arrive early to grab a table. However, everything else—especially the ambiance—is superb, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Overall, I would definitely recommend Guhaas for anyone looking to enjoy great food at a fair price!

One of the best non-veg restaurants in Kanchipuram. You won’t find authentic North Indian Mughlai dishes anywhere else in town – this is the only place that serves them right. The quality and quantity of food are both excellent, and the prices are very reasonable compared to other restaurants. If you love Mughlai food or just want a great non-veg meal, Guhaas is a must-visit!

If you're craving a flavorful and satisfying meal, Guhas Restaurant is a must-visit spot that delivers on taste and variety. Here's a quick review of some of their standout dishes: Paneer Pepper Gravy: A rich and aromatic dish, the paneer is soft and well-marinated, perfectly complemented by the bold peppery gravy. It strikes a great balance between spice and creaminess, making it a favorite for vegetarians and spice lovers alike. Fried Rice: Simple yet delicious, the fried rice is well-cooked with a subtle smoky flavor. Each grain is separate and infused with just the right amount of seasoning and vegetables, making it a great pairing with any gravy-based dish. Chicken Noodles: These noodles are packed with flavor and generously loaded with tender chicken pieces. The seasoning is spot-on, with a hint of soy and garlic that enhances the overall taste. A satisfying dish for those who enjoy Indo-Chinese cuisine. Tandoori Chicken: Juicy, smoky, and perfectly charred, the tandoori chicken at Guhas is a showstopper. Marinated in a blend of spices and grilled to perfection, it’s served hot with mint chutney that adds a refreshing contrast. Overall Experience: Guhas Restaurant offers a delightful mix of Indian and Indo-Chinese flavors. The service is prompt, and the ambiance is cozy, making it a great place for both casual dining and family outings.

Day 5

Keep it simple
For day 5, these 7 places should be enough to fill your day with something exciting to do in Kanchipuram. Start the day with Sri Vaikunta Perumal Temple and make your way through the city to get to Kumara Kottam Arulmigu Sri Subramaniya Swami Temple. This should take about 9 hours of your day.

Hindu temple
Sri Vaikunta Perumal Temple, also known as Thiru Parameswara Vinnagaram temple, is a historic site located in Kanchipuram. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams devoted to him. The architecture of the temple follows the Dravidian style and was initially constructed by the Pallava dynasty, with later modifications by the Chola kings and Vijayanagar rulers.
A must visit temple in Kanchipuram, Lord Vishnu is positioned in three different floors in three different positions. In 1st floor-he's standing, 2nd floor- laying down, 3rd floor- sitting(3rd floor is only open on Vaikunta ekadasi day). When I went it was closed due to renovation. Make sure to go when the temple is open.
Kavya C — Google review
Sri Vaikunta Perumal Temple is built by Pallava king Nandivarman II in the 8th century, the temple stands out for its three-tiered structure, with three sanctums stacked vertically, each featuring Lord Vishnu in a different posture—sitting, reclining, and standing. The intricate carvings, pillared mandapam, and absence of a towering gopuram make its design distinct among Dravidian temples. The temple’s walls and corridors house impressive bas-reliefs and inscriptions detailing legends, royal donations, and significant historical events from the Pallava and Chola dynasties. The tranquil tank, Airammadha Theertham, adds to the serene ambiance, making the site perfect for contemplative visits and heritage photography. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to witness Vishnu’s forms in all three postures if the upper floors are open; local priests can sometimes allow brief access on Ekadashi days. Highly recommended for history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone wanting to experience one of India’s oldest and most architecturally significant Vishnu temples.

Vaikuntha Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram is a prime tourist attraction. Built by Nandivarman II in the 8th century, Sri Vaikuntha Perumal Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu (called Perumal in Tamil Nadu) presents a more mature Pallava style — its principal parts such as the cloisters, portico and sanctuary making an organic composition. The colonnade of lion pillars inside it represents the first phase of what developed into the grand thousand-pillared halls in latter years. Sri Vaikuntha Perumal temple has an ambulatory around and steps leading to the upper floor. A very interesting feature, mostly hallmark of Pandyan architecture, is that Sri Vaikuntha Perumal temple houses triple, three-storeyed shrines to Vishnu. The first storey houses Vishnu in seated form, the second one houses Vishnu idol in reclining posture and the uppermost sanctum contains Lord Vishnu’s statue in standing form. Each of these three forms of Lord Vishnu - seated, reclining, and standing- are referred to by a different epithet for each.

The wedding ceremony felt extra special in such a divine and sacred setting. The temple is clean, well-maintained, and the traditional architecture is truly beautiful. Saravana bhavan is very trusted brand in Tamil Nadu for vegetarian food, but it's degrading day by day. Visited the Kanchipuram saravana bhavan and it's full of disappointed. Very very delayed service, quality of food is not good, delayed customer service. Not a good experience. Saravana bhavan team, please look into it else the brand will die over years.
Prasad P — Google review
Little bit overpriced but the quality one of the best. Had a Adai aviyal , well prepared with fine oil and grispy, aviyal was great taste, beauty was they had given butter in banana leaf. The service was bit late & they took 20 mins for takeaway. Large space for vehicle parking compared to another Saravanan Bhavan it's good in service and quality but delay in serving.
Sabari V — Google review
They are the authentic Saravana Bhavan. There all dosa were good, specially liked the ghee roast masala dosa. Didn't find the meal appealing lacked some sort of major touch/feel to it. Cleanliness was good.
Ajeesh — Google review
Well maintained, good taste, veg options, has an A/C hall and 2 non A/C halls as well. Courteous staff, open between 6 AM and 10:30 PM IST here. Nearby famous temples and have a car parking next to building.

Vegetarian restaurant
Neo Sri Rama Cafe is a beloved vegetarian eatery in Kanchipuram, boasting a rich history of over 70 years. Known for its traditional South Indian meals, this no-frills restaurant offers a unique charm that transports you back in time. While the ambiance may not be modern or pristine, the food remains flavorful and satisfying, with many dishes prepared without garlic—perfect for those seeking such options.
No frill veg restaurant it was established in 1942. Best place to have a typical South Indian lunch. The place looks run down but service is excellent and they serve nice meals.
Vikas S — Google review
This is one of the most popular vegetarian hotel in kanchipuram for the past more than 70 years . In good old days too Tiffin and meals were tasty. One of the famous vegetarian hotel near Bus stand and kamakshi amman temple. Nowdays taste reduced. someout what better. Spaccious place. No crowd and rush. But make a note they accept only cash, no card or upi payment modes available.
Mallinathan — Google review
A chip off the old block...Rama's cafe is worth a visit..the place is dimly lit and not sparkling clean but the food is tasty and pocket friendly..surely worth trying
Pramod H — Google review
One thing we liked most about this place is we could get lunch which was almost without garlic. Only Rasam had garlic. All curries and sambar were without garlic which was what we were looking for. Thank you! Food was certainly very tasty. But we were disappointed that they didn't have curd and offered watery buttermilk instead. Compared to the new generation restaurants nearby, this lacks in ambience. But to anyone looking for garlic free food, we would readily recommend Rama's Cafe.

3Star only becoz of tastes felt ok only. Old cafe but taste not to the mark. Once they done well but now improvement needed for taste and quality.. Yup anyway normal filter coffee will go once..

I don't know how, many people have reviewed good of this restaurant. The food is average. It doesn't taste good. Can't eat here second time. Coffee is absolutely horrible. It's only chicory.. should be 55-45 blend, I guess. Also milk is watery... should be same blend.. I guess. I was deceived by the board since 1942. Should have been good in older days.

The food was good. Ordered for chicken fried rice and Peri peri Shawarma, both are palatable. Definitely I would go again.
Krishnaraj V — Google review
Unarguably This place is the best shawarma you can get in Kanchipuram Even after comparing to all other shawarma outlets out there. Although it’s a bit on the pricey side but when considering the taste and quality it’s justifiable. They have several varieties of shawarma and other bites as well..but the flagship would be there shawarma only. The meat inside is sufficiently succulent and with different options provide much better taste. And to top that they provide well minced cabbage which doesn’t obtrude the shawarma at all. Even though my goto shawarma type is Full meat(due to lot of cabbage spoiling the actual shawarma sense) I tend to suffice with normal ones in CRC alone. Downside is that all the deep fried items they provide is overly oily. The fried chicken I had tried so far always been this case. Which they can improve And delivery time is a little higher mostly. To add some background about the shop They actually pioneer they the BBQ and shawarma in Kanchipuram years back. Although it didn’t get much traction over night…But over the period of time several shawarma shops hit in Kanchipuram and got popular. CRC sustained and emerged much better pace than others.

Very poor delivery time. 30 mins in person. 45mins to an hour through Swiggy. You are never sure if you will ever get your food. Fully understaffed. If you are hungry and want something fast look elsewhere.

Vegetarian restaurant
Hotel Sakthi Ganapathi offers a delightful experience for vegetarian food lovers, featuring classic dishes such as dal, curries, and rice in a simple yet inviting setting. While the service may be a tad slow at times, the emphasis on health is evident with their decision to refrain from serving coffee and tea—an initiative highlighted by informative sticky notes. The hotel maintains traditional charm with its limited but functional restroom facilities shared between genders.
Food was good, service is bit delayed, but they follow healthy rule they don't provide Cofee and tea due to heart and other health issues they posted on sticky notes. Toilet common for men and women 2 toilets only. Overall old treditional hotel, seperate ac dinning also available. You get food for fare amount.

It was the worst hotel ever I visited. Ask to make a bill and pay for what we plan to eat. Service is much worse. Parrota was almost black in colour, water with dust. While raising complaints to the cashier, He just ordered the waiter to replace it. Not even felt guilty. Not producing bills also. Hotel is near to bustand and threatening to public health.

Pathetic, no more kanchi special restaurant. Completely lost charm
Manoj K — Google review
Was there during lunch time a bit late at 2:30 pm. Bought lunch token costing ₹ 100. Waited for 5-10 mins as it was a bandhi type seating arrangement. Due to under staffing and poor management, food serving was done in a hapazard manner making the dining experience very bad. Kootu was not served when asked they said it is under preparation. Appalam was served last just to finish my meal. Water glasses were kept last. Request the management to focus on staffing and better service.
